Tyrell Williams on a crossing route immediately got out of bounds instead of cutting upfield but he still picked up a 1st down. Tyrell then caught another long pass and fumbled, but he was lucky that the Chargers recovered. The Bills challenged the ruling but it stood. Melvin Gordon picked up some decent yardage on consecutive receptions but showcased his poor openfield running on both. Keenan Allen ran a beautiful route, beat his man, then picked up good yardage after the catch. A bad snap and a false start later the Chargers were looking at a 2nd & 10 from the 10. Rivers shoveled a pass to Gordon after quick pressure forced him to improvise and Gordon made it to the 2. On 3rd & 2, Rivers looked for and found Gordon again for their third touchdown connection of the day.A 57-yard pass to Zay Jones eclipsed the Bills’ total offensive output on the day to that point.A couple ineffective passes and a Melvin Ingram sack later the Bills brought on the kicking team again. Hauschka was good from 41 yards.The Bills’ first possession of the second half started out as the LeSean McCoy show, but ended up being successful largely because of Josh Allen’s ability to elude pressure and scramble. On 3rd & 10, Austin Ekeler nearly managed to make something from nothing, but he was unable to and the Chargers elected to punt after taking a delay of game penalty.The Chargers appeared to touch the ball in the end zone which should have resulted in a touchback, but the referees missed that and the Bills started inside their own 5-yard line. Josh Allen quickly made matters worse by throwing a pass that was intercepted by Kyzir White.A Keenan Allen reception brought the Chargers to the 1-yard line. An aborted snap moved them back to the 5. Luckily, Ekeler recovered. That offense is scary. Jared Goff was dropping dimes against Minnesota’s defense.3 - New Orleans Saints (LW: 5) - Not unlike years past, the Saints have weathered a shaky start to jump out to 3-1. Alvin Kamara is one of the most dangerous players in the league.4 - Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 6) - The Jags bounced back with a win. Their defense is still tough.5 - New England Patriots (LW: 12) - Classic Patriots. Fall down to 1-2 and bounce back with a dominant 38-7 win over a previously undefeated Miami team. (Where have I seen that final score before?)6 - Green Bay Packers (LW: 10) - After losing in Washington last week, the Packers returned home to shut out Buffalo at home. Easy.7 - Chicago Bears (LW: 13) - Prior to Week 4, the Bears’ defense was carrying the team while Mitchell Trubisky was struggling. Trubisky finally stepped up this weekend by throwing six touchdowns on just 26 passing attempts against Tampa Bay. Talk about efficiency. 8 - Tennessee Titans (LW: 20) - The Titans are 3-1 after beating the reigning Super Bowl champs. This team has character. They’ve really fought hard under Mike Vrabel. 9 - Carolina Panthers (LW: 9) - The Panthers had a bye. They’ll host the G-Men this week, which presents a real opportunity to get to 3-1. 10 - Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 16) - Cincy hung tough and found a way to win in Atlanta. Solid team. 11 - Baltimore Ravens (LW: 17) - It feels like Joe Flacco is having his best season since forever ago. The Ravens drafting Lamar Jackson really lit a fire under his butt. 12 - Washington Redskins (LW: 11) - Good week for Washington. They didn’t even have to play a game and still ended up being first in the NFC East. Washington returns to action with a game in New Orleans. Tough test.13 - Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 3) - The Eagles had a 93.1% win probability after going up 17-3 on Sunday. Then the defense blew the lead and Philly lost in overtime. It’s apparent the Eagles have a number of issues, with a struggling secondary being chief among them. 14 - Atlanta Falcons (LW: 8) - I’d argue the Falcons are better than their 1-3 record indicates. They only have a point differential of -6. They’ve had a tough schedule so far.15 - Minnesota Vikings (LW: 15) - Kirk Cousins is Tony Romo. Post good stats, choke the game away, get absolved of blame. But the real issue with Minnesota is their struggling defense. Just about everyone. Yup. Not like I had them high my power rankings last week.17 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 7) - It was only a matter of time before Ryan Fitzpatrick turned back into a pumpkin. The bigger issue for the Bucs, though, is that their defense is porous. 18 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 18) - The Chargers just barely managed to beat C.J. Beathard. For that, I award them no change in their ranking. 19 - PIttsburgh Steelers (LW: 14) - Pittsburgh is now 1-2-1 after losing to Baltimore. This team could easily be 1-3. The potential good news is that Le’Veon Bell plans to return, but not until after the team’s Week 7 bye. 20 - Denver Broncos (LW: 19) - Case Keenum had a wide open Demaryius Thomas for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter but he simply overthrew him. That’s what happens when your quarterback is Case Keenum. All told, still a solid showing against an undefeated Kansas City squad.21 - Seattle Seahawks (LW: 22) - The Seahawks eked out a win over a bad Arizona squad. They also lost Earl Thomas for the season. This team is going nowhere fast. 22 - Dallas Cowboys (LW: 28) - The Cowboys easily could’ve lost at home to Detroit but they managed to sneak away with a win on a late field goal. 23 - Cleveland Browns (LW: 21) - Cleveland got screwed by the refs. This team has had some bad luck early on in the season. (Not to mention the past billion years.)24 - San Francisco 49ers (LW: 24) - Gotta give the Niners credit for hanging tough with Beathard at quarterback. 25 - Houston Texans (LW: 30) - Houston is on the board after managing to beat Indy. Deshaun Watson had his best game of the season.26 - Indianapolis Colts (LW: 23) - Frank Reich is drawing some criticism for playing to win instead of being conservative and playing to tie. I say screw those critics. Herm Edwards had it right: you PLAY to WIN the GAME!27 - Detroit Lions (LW: 25) - Well, they’re showing fight, but they’re still not good. 28 - Oakland Raiders (LW: 31) - The Raiders got some help from the refs to avoid going 0-4. 29 - Buffalo Bills (LW: 26) - After a big upset win in Minny last week, Buffalo managed to score exactly zero points in Green Bay. The good and bad of Josh Allen. 30 - New York Jets (LW: 27) - The J-E-T-S have dropped three straight after winning in Week 1.31 - New York Giants (LW: 29) - It was foolish to think the Giants were “back” just because they beat Houston last week. This team clearly isn’t any good. It was a vintage Brady performance.Winner: The coaching staffNew England came out perfectly prepared for an opponent that actually won more games during the regular season than the Patriots. While the players and their execution deserve plenty of praise, so does the coaching staff. The offense was unstoppable and up four scores before the Chargers even knew what hit them, the defense creatively pressured Philip Rivers all day, and the special teams eliminated the big play return threat. In the playoffs, coaching can very well be the difference and New England still is best in that category.Winner: WR Julian EdelmanIn his first playoff game since Super Bowl 51, Julian Edelman was outstanding. The veteran wide receiver was New England’s top downfield receiving threat and finished the day with nine catches for a team-high (and personal season-high) 151 yards. While Los Angeles attempted to defend the Patriots by using speed in their secondary, the team had no answer to the shifty Edelman.Winner: DE Trey FlowersIn what might have been his last game at Gillette Stadium — he is scheduled to become a free agent in two months — Trey Flowers showed why he is the Patriots’ best front seven defender. The 25-year old dominated at the point of attack and was a big reason why the Chargers’ passing offense never got in a rhythm by consistently moving people or getting into the backfield on stunts. The second-year man led all Patriots defensive tackles in playing time and was very good at challenging the interior of the Chargers’ offensive line, and opening up things for those around him. New England’s coaching staff trusted Butler to perform despite the high volume of snaps, and he delivered.Loser: Team disciplineIf there is one blemish — and yes, it is nit-picking — coming out of yesterday’s game it is the Patriots’ relatively high number of penalties. Referee Ron Torbert flagged the team nine times on the day, resulting in a loss of 75 yards. Of course, New England was up from the start so the penalties did not hurt that much but they still negated two big plays. The Patriots need to work on this moving into the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium next week.Winner: The offensive lineThe Chargers have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL and the Patriots dominated them at will. In run blocking, Dante Scarnecchia’s unit paved the way for 156 yards on 32 non-kneel down carries — a very good 4.9 yards per run — while it also kept Tom Brady pretty much clean for the day: while he was hit twice Color Rush Damien Harris Jersey , the quarterback was not sacked even once. Star pass rushers Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa were a non-factor, and the Patriots’ blockers up front were a big reason for that.Winner: The lead blockers (Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen, James Develin)Some of the praise for the Patriots’ impressive outing in the trenches has to go to the lead blockers as well — they had a very good day. The 28-year old was active as a pass rusher, communicated well from the heart of the defense, and also was a major factor in limiting the impact of Los Angeles’ dangerous running back duo. The finalists are: Richard Seymour, Mike Vrabel, and Rodney Harrison. The choice is now up to the fans, so who should you vote for? Well, I’m going to give you a complicated answer, because, while I think there is one player most qualified Womens Damien Harris Jersey , he’s not the guy I’ll be voting for. The player who I think is most qualified to be voted in is Richard Seymour. Belichick has said before that they wouldn’t have won the first 3 Super Bowls without Seymour, and he’ll probably end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame eventually as well. I won’t be voting for Seymour though, I’ll be voting for Rodney Harrison. Harrison was a sensational player, and a leader on and off the field for two of the best teams in NFL history. He set the tone for 2003 and 2004 teams, which were led by the defense. But that’s not the biggest reason I’m voting for him. The biggest reason is because he is one of the best safeties in NFL history, and doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. Did you know that he is the only safety and 1 of only 2 players(the other is Ray Lewis) in NFL history with 30 sacks and 30 interceptions? No, you probably didn’t, because no one talk about Harrison as one of the best safeties ever. Because fans didn’t like him, he didn’t get voted into the Pro Bowl, so he doesn’t have the “resume” to get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For instance, in 2003 he was a first team All-Pro and in 2004 he was a second team All-Pro, but he wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl in either of those seasons. He was considered one of the dirtiest players in the league when he was playing Authentic Damien Harris Jersey , but did you ever think he was dirty? He was Ronnie Lott, but he just played in an era that didn’t respect those hard hitting players. So, while both Seymour and Vrabel are deserving of the Hall, I think Harrison is more deserving. Seymour will eventually make it to Canton, and, even though Vrabel deserves to get in, Harrison was a better player than Vrabel. Because of how good he was, and because he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, I’m hoping that Rodney is the pick to get in this year. With two preseason games in the books, we can begin to draw trend lines and start to get a glimpse into the coaching staff’s thought process. And with that in mind, let’s check in on some of the Giants’ biggest position battles. Backup quarterbackThis wasn’t included in the battles last week, but after Davis Webb’s Week 1 performance, it is a position we have to keep an eye on.Winner: Davis Webb might be THE big winner for the Giants on the night. After a bad, unsettled performance against the Cleveland Browns, Webb got the start and looked composed, decisive, and accurate. He responded to the faith from the Giants’ coaching staff by slinging the ball all over the field with touch and accuracy, finishing with stat line of 14-for-20 (70 percent) for 140 yards and a touchdown. Webb had a few highlight plays, but this one stands out: Center: Jon Halapio vs. Brett JonesLast week I thought Brett Jones came away with the better performance — and the win. The Giants, apparently Jabrill Peppers Jersey , disagreed and Halapio remained the starting center through the next week of practice. It is difficult to say whether either center established an advantage over the other. It did stand out that Halapio failed to snap the ball despite Webb calling for it, resulting in a delay of game penalty. Shepard didn’t have much separation, but in a crowded wide receiver room, being able to make a play despite being covered could be a difference maker.Kalif Raymond showed some upside as a returner, as well as some sharp route running and nice hands on a high pass over the middle.LosersHunter Sharp once again got the first team chances as the starting kick and punt returner, and struggled with ball security. He also failed to make an impression as a receiver, with one catch on two targets for no yards.CornerbackWho will man the slot corner position? Who will back up Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple? Are those players even on the roster right now? The Giants need answers to those questions by the final preseason game, and they got another set of data points against the Lions. WinnersB.W.
