This Saturday, Ted Thompson was inducted into the hallowed halls at Lambeau Field as one of the team’s greats.Thompson took the general manager job in 2005, taking over from coach/GM Mike Sherman. His first draft pick was unquestionably his best, as he selected Aaron Rodgers with the 24th selection that year. Thompson then hired Mike McCarthy as the Packers’ head coach the following season and helped McCarthy oversee the transition from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers at quarterback in 2008.Under Thompson’s leadership, the Packers made four NFC Championship Games, winning once in 2010 to advance to Super Bowl XLV. There, the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25. Practically the entire Packers’ roster on that team was drafted or signed by Thompson, with only a few notable exceptions; just two of the Packers’ starters in that game (Chad Clifton and Donald Driver) preceded Thompson. Making his mark as a scout and shrewd drafter, Thompson stuck closely to a draft-and-develop strategy when compiling his rosters, adding numerous undrafted free agents to the mix as well. However, he did make a few notable free agent signings to supplement his draft picks White Rashan Gary Jersey , mostly coming in the very early and late years of his tenure. Charles Woodson and Ryan Pickett were free agent acquisitions in 2006 and had lengthy Packers careers, with Woodson earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2009. Julius Peppers had a productive three-year Packers tenure as well after signing in 2014. However, the Packers did have spans of multiple years without significant free agent acquisitions. As a result of that approach, Thompson has become a polarizing figure in recent years among Packers fans. A handful of relatively unproductive drafts — particularly in 2015 — put a damper on the late years of Thompson’s tenure as the Packers struggled with depth over the past few seasons. In addition, Thompson has mentored numerous future NFL general managers coming up through the Packers’ personnel department. John Dorsey, John Schneider, Reggie McKenzie, and current Packers GM Brian Gutekunst all got their jobs after working for Thompson in the Packers front office.Currently Thompson still works for the Packers in an advisory role, which he took after stepping down from the GM post in early 2018.Congratulations to Ted, and APC wishes him well in the future. The Packers tend to land a large number of players who come for top-30 visits, so keep a close eye on this list throughout the next month." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShareNFL Draft 2019: Packers pre-draft prospect visits trackerDenny Medley-USA TODAY SportsNFL teams are deep into their preparations for the 2019 NFL Draft, and as college Pro Days wind down Cheap Rashan Gary Jersey , the next phase of scouting is getting underway. That phase is on-site visits, where teams invite prospects to come to their facilities for interviews, medical checks, and often testing and drills. It’s essentially a glorified job interview, wherein the player and gets to display the skills that he can bring to his potential new employer and both sides can get to know each other more thoroughly. Each team can hold visits for 30 players from around the country, with an additional unlimited allotment of visits for “local” prospects — those who either played college football or grew up close by.The Green Bay Packers, with two first-round draft picks in their pocket, will likely be using several of their Top-30 visits on highly-rated prospects whom the team will consider early on. That was a major portion of the strategy in 2018, Brian Gutekunst’s first year as general manager, but it represented a significant change from Ted Thompson’s strategy. Before the GM change, Thompson seemed to use most of his visits on players who were either day-three or potential undrafted free agent prospects rather than top prospects. However, Gutekunst did bring in a handful of notable early options as well. Still Youth Rashan Gary Jersey , eight of the 27 players who visited Green Bay last spring ended up as Packers one way or another; four of them were 2018 draft picks (Oren Burks, J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Kendall Donnerson) while another four were acquired either as undrafted free agents or added mid-season (Tim Boyle, Gerhard de Beer, Natrell Jamerson, and Connor Sheehy). As a result, keep a close eye on this constantly-updated list leading up to the draft, as several of these names are sure to end up wearing Green and Gold at some point in 2019 or beyond.Packers Top-30 VisitsPlayerPositionCollegeSourceDraft ProjectionPlayerPositionCollegeSourceDraft ProjectionIn addition to the players noted above, the Packers also hosted a number of prospects from the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University for the team’s local prospect visits.
Sammy Watkins was supposed to be a game-changing

star when the Buffalo Bills drafted him fourth overall in 2014 Peyton Manning Jersey , the kind of speedy wide receiver that could make plays all over the field. It never worked out that way.Watkins had a 1,000-yard season and was reasonably productive, but he never quite hit the stardom that was expected of him. And along the way, he gained a reputation for being demanding, difficult and at times downright sulky as the number of passes that went his way reached a nadir."I was young and kind of ego-tripping," Watkins said, quite matter-of-factly, after helping the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 30-23 on Sunday to complete a season sweep. The 25-year-old Watkins played a big part in the win, too. He caught eight passes for 107 yards and two scores, and drew some of the attention from the rest of the Chiefs' stars, who all seemed to produce at crucial times as Kansas City continued its dominance of the AFC West.So what changed between Watkins in Buffalo and Watkins in Kansas City? What has enabled a guy with blazing speed, strong hands and physical size to finally become a breakout star?Well, mostly maturity."I kind of went to the Rams last year and I was in the same situation with a lot of other weapons. I learned a lot," Watkins said. "It's not about me or any one guy on this team."The Chiefs' decision to sign Watkins in free agency raised some eyebrows, not only because they had pressing needs elsewhere but because their offense was already quite potent. They had a star-in-the-making in Tyreek Hill John Elway Jersey , the reigning NFL rushing champion in Kareem Hunt and one of the best tight ends in the game in Travis Kelce, so adding Watkins to the mix seemed to be superfluous. But they wound up signing him to a $48 million, three-year deal anyway, then listened as all the pundits criticized the move throughout the summer and right into training camp.Nobody is criticizing it much these days."His approach has been unbelievable," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "He just comes out, works hard. He's not concerned with how many catches he has or any of that. For a big-time receiver, that's unique. He knows there's only one ball and we have a bunch of pretty good players, and when you have an opportunity, be a part of that. He's done that. He's done a nice job of that."Watkins was relatively quiet in an opening win over the Chargers, but he had six catches for 100 yards the following week at Pittsburgh. He had his first TD catch in a win over the 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium, then had his best game to date against the Broncos on Sunday. One was a crafty buttonhook route, where Watkins found a soft spot in the middle of the Denver defense and ran untouched 10 yards for the score. The other was a 13-yard touchdown reception. The fact that both came in the red zone is hardly a surprise: That's where Watkins is dangerous."It feels great," he said, "not just to score two times but to get the win. To do it at a high level and just go out there and play my style of game, running around Ronald Leary Jersey , having fun, throwing some good blocks and have everybody catch a lot of balls."Sounds like a team-first player, rather than the me-first guy Watkins used to be."It's always good to see Sammy go off," Kelce said. "He brings such a confidence in everything he does. You're happy for the guy because of the type of person he is and how hard he works during the week. It's awesome to see him have a day like he had."Notes: Reid said Monday he hadn't heard the comments made by the Broncos claiming that the Chiefs stretch the rules offensively by getting their offensive linemen too far downfield on their run-pass option plays. "I always ask officials beforehand if there is anything I need to tell my guys and that's never been an issue," Reid said. ... Reid did not have any injury updates Monday, though he did say LB Frank Zombo (hamstring) was probably the most serious of them. LB Anthony Hitchens (ribs) and WR Tyreek Hill (groin) also left Sunday's game against the Broncos. The Broncos traded Demaryius Thomas to the Texans in October and lost Emmanuel Sanders to a torn Achilles last week, which left rookie Courtland Sutton as the only one of their initial top three wide receivers left on the roster.Given head coach Vance Joseph’s desire to see a more aggressive passing attack, having Sutton on hand would be a plus for the team’s chances of success. A quad injury is making Sutton’s presence something less than a sure thing.Sutton didn’t practice on Tuesday as the team started prepping for Saturday’s game against the Browns, but Joseph said that the plan is for Sutton to work on Wednesday and Thursday.“That’s the plan: to get him out tomorrow a little bit,” Joseph said, via the team’s website. “We’ll see how much he can do tomorrow, but the goal is to get him ready for Saturday. That’s the ultimate goal.”Sutton caught two passes for 14 yards last week and saw fewer targets than DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick in the 20-14 loss to the 49ers.

This week, his specialty was getting the ball quick out to the sideline for eight yard routes. He has the arm strength to get it out there easily. One thing you really appreciate is his work in the red zone, putting the ball exactly where his tight ends needed it to use their size to secure a touchdown.Mayfield received the highest offensive grade (86.8) from PFF. PFF said “Mayfield went 10-of-12 for 150 yards and two touchdowns when blitzed, earning a perfect passer rating of 158.3 and an elite offensive grade (98.1).”Running BackPlayerPlays%StatsPlayerPlays%StatsAnother thing I appreciated in person was the Browns’ running backs. Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson are just amazing — Chubb with his reads and power, and Johnson with his shiftiness that makes defenders miss over and over.Per PFF, Chubb gained 100 of his rushing yards after contact. He received a game grade of 83.8, while Johnson was second offensively with an 84.6. A couple of Johnson’s “catches” were pitches forward at the line of scrimmage that were more like runs. The Browns continue doing a good job of mixing Dontrell Hilliard into the mix too.Wide ReceiverPlayerPlays%StatsPlayerPlays%StatsIt looks like Freddie Kitchens wants to make a habit of turning Jarvis Landry into a receiver, runner Youth Damarious Randall Jersey , and passer. It’s the second game this year that he has registered stats in each category. Early in the game, it was weird — he just wasn’t looking for the ball when Mayfield delivered it. He got it together, though, and his pass downfield was right on the button. No catches for Antonio Callaway, but Rashard Higgins was involved early and often — 6 catches, including a pretty catch-and-run with a dive over the pylon for six. He now has 4 touchdowns on the year and is on pace to surpass 500 yards despite missing several games.Breshad Perriman caught the deep ball by Landry, and with how he is playing, you have to wonder how in the world the Ravens couldn’t figure him out. Maybe he will burn them again on Sunday.Tight EndPlayerPlays%StatsPlayerPlays%StatsI was at a game last year in which the Browns could’ve sealed the game with a catch by David Njoku against the Packers. It was ruled a first down Damarious Randall Jersey Stitched , but replay overturned the call to a drop. We collapsed and lost the game. 2018 is a whole different year. This year, Njoku catches the ball and runs like a crazy guy almost to the end zone. He did make me nervous by not switching the ball to his left hand, which risked a fumble.Darren Fells did a nice job boxing out in the corner of the end zone for another touchdown catch. He now has three touchdowns on the year, tying a career-high.Offensive LinePlayerPlays%StatsPlayerPlays%StatsGet this: the Browns didn’t allow a sack or quarterback hit all game. Holy smokes.Per PFF, the Browns were first in pass-blocking efficiency (92.9) this week and only allowed six pressures all games. The Cleveland Browns are hosting free agent receiver Rishard Matthews for a workout on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.Matthews asked for and received his release from the Tennessee Titans on September 27, which was just over a month after signing a contract extension through the 2019 season. The extension reportedly included a $7.75 million team option following this year but included no guaranteed money, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He was set to make $5 million this season.Matthews grabbed 118 receptions with 1 Youth T. J. Carrie Jersey ,740 yards and 13 touchdowns over the last two seasons while working as Marcus Mariota’s preferred pass-catching option not named Delanie Walker.Heading into 2018, Matthews had health question marks after suffering what was believed to be a torn meniscus. He missed the Titans’ offseason program and all of training camp before being activated from the physically unable to perform list just before the season’s start. The Browns have been looking for proven receiver depth before and after trading away Josh Gordon. Rumors have persisted about their intent to sign free agent Dez Bryant, but nothing has progressed on that front since his training camp visit.Signing Matthews makes a lot of sense given the Browns’ frustration with their inexperienced receiving corps. Rookie Antonio Callaway has shown glimpses but has been wildly inconsistent and unreliable through his first four NFL appearances.Given he was on the mend entering this season, and he’d be learning a new offense, there’s a chance it would take a few weeks for him to be able to contribute. Even then he might not get back to 100 percent this season, but he’s certainly worth an evaluation. If they like what they see the Browns should give him an offer before he leaves Berea. Matthews is also scheduled to visit the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday.

Spirits Within is a notorious box office bomb that earned only $32 million in the United States in 2001. Advent Children is a direct video sequel to Final Fantasy VII and has received a better reception from fans. Seeing a live-action shot of a team that sold more than 144 million games for the first time since 1987 will be a new experience for fans.

Final Fantasy XIV is undoubtedly an online multiplayer role-playing game with FFXIV Gil since the game currency. Its original version premiered in 2010, but later Square Enix redesigned the full game, including graphics, features, and stories. In 2013, Final Fantasy XIV was re-released as A Realm Reborn, which had been more popular than before. Now, the sport is quickening the release of their third extended version of Shadowbringers, which was launched yesterday.

The game happens in a fantasy world called Eorzea, brimming with magic, political conspiracy and giant monsters called primitive animals. That high octane offense went 13-3 while generating 377 yards per game, has been all but dismantled. Of the skill players who remain, running back James Conner, wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Vance McDonald accounted for 1,249 of the 6 Jack Butler Jersey ,201 yards generated during the season. The trio saw a major uptick last season while generating 3,506 yards, looming questions remain with the draft less than two weeks away. This leads to some enormous question marks that will impact the Steelers draft. Can Smith-Schuster keep evolving and be productive with additional coverage as the Steelers top wide receiver? Who will be the #2 wideout, second-year James Washington or newcomer, Donte Moncrief? Will Washington or Moncrief gel with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in 2019? Can Conner remain healthy for 16 games and break a thousand yards? How many games will McDonald miss in 2019? He has never played in all 16 games during his six-year career while missing 21 of a possible 72 games. I am worried about our offense and filling all that lost productivity in the past two seasons. A case can be made by fans that we need an infusion of talent on defense and I agree but not in the first round. The position that has the greatest need for an impact player for the 2019 season is at tight end. As I noted in earlier articles, inside linebacker and wide receiver do not have clear paths for playing time. As I pointed out McDonald, just like most of the top tight ends in the NFL T. J. Watt Jersey , misses games. I have no faith in backup tight end Xavier Grimble being able to be a reliable fill in for McDonald let alone see the substantial snap counts James participated in past years. Do I want a player on the field for 500 snaps who fails to wrap up the football, who carries the ball in the wrong hand, and tries to showcase his tough guy mentality all on the same play, while failing? Pass. I want a guy who is technically sound as a receiving tight end and the best blocking tight end in the 2019 draft. TJ Hockenson is that player. Is Hockenson a SPARQ athlete like fellow Iowa Hawkeyes Noah Fant? He is not. Fant was not asked to block in college which raises a red flag. Just because he was not asked to block in college does not mean he can’t. If he has blocking skills why did Hockenson shoulder such a load? NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks compare Hockenson to Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, which is a valid comparison. They are both big-bodied tight ends separated by only an inch and about 10 pounds. Both ran a 4.7 forty time at the combine and contribute on the field similarly. That is high praise for Hockenson to be compared to a player fourth on the NFL’s all-time reception list and 21 in receiving yards. With so much offense lost it will be hard for the Steelers to replace that with their current players. The 1,720 lost yardage from James and AB departing cannot be absorbed by players currently on the roster. A big chunk should and will but not all of it. Hockenson has the ability not only to open holes for Conners but also find holes in defensive secondaries like Heath Miller did for so many years in Pittsburgh. Hockenson being available at 20 is in doubt so it is up to general manager Kevin Colbert to move up and snag a true difference maker in 2019. Tweets from https://twitter.com/chriswesseling/lists/nfl-draft-coverage Kerryon Johnson was just a kid when his older siblings hit him with elbows while playing hoops. And his parents Devon Kennard Jersey , both of whom played college basketball, did not swoop in to save their young son from the physical games.Sure, playing at Auburn and in the SEC did a lot to get the Detroit Lions' rookie running back ready for the NFL .Growing up in Huntsville, Alabama, though as the youngest of four athletic children did a lot to develop him, too."My parents let it go because they knew I was being prepared for moments like this," Johnson said Wednesday after a joint practice with the New York Giants."When I look back at those times, I'm grateful. It taught me to be competitive and how to work hard and never give up."I look back on those days and I'm grateful."Detroit, meanwhile Will Harris Detroit Lions Jersey , is thankful it drafted Johnson in the second round. He had a run and a reception for 30-plus yards in his professional debut, albeit it a preseason game last week against the Oakland Raiders. While the Lions were encouraged by Johnson's flashes of promise, and have been pleased by how well he has practiced, they are quick to pump the breaks to temper the enthusiasm about him."I was excited to see him have a couple big plays and show off some of his natural ability," Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. "But from an overall standpoint, we've a long way to go there."Detroit's running game can't get much worse.Under former coach Jim Caldwell, the Lions ranked last in rushing offense in 2017 for the second time in three years. In the other two seasons with Caldwell, the team ranked No. 30 and No. 28 in the NFL on the ground offensively.Johnson won't be expected to fix the lingering problem alone.Detroit selected Frank Ragnow 20th overall in the draft, counting on him to play alongside four returning starters to bolster the offensive line.Veteran running back LeGarrette Blount was signed early in free agency to likely lead a group that also includes Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah."I've had a smooth start because I've got a great room of guys Will Harris Jersey 2019 , who have really helped me make the transition," Johnson said."I owe my early success to them. They've helped me to develop a routine and have encouraged me to stick to it to keep my mind focused on the next day."This is a long season. It feels like we've already played three games, but we've only played one preseason game."Johnson said he goes to bed at 10:30 p.m., at the latest, so that he's ready to wake up for 6 a.m. to tackle training camp. The grind his parents and siblings put him through while he was growing up got him ready to thrive now.His father, Kerry, owns and operates VSI Training in Alabama where he trains athletes. His mother, Natalie, is a home health nurse and she can keep him in line by simply saying Will Harris Jersey Mens , "Son," with a certain look. His brother, Kerron, beat out future NBA star DeMarcus Cousins for Mr. Basketball in Alabama and went on to play in Europe. His sister, Nyla, played basketball at Faulkner University and another sister, Kolanda, used her athletic skills to dance."We raised Kerryon in a challenging household," Kerry Johnson said in a telephone interview while driving to Detroit for an exhibition game against the Giants on Friday night."Everyone in our family is competitive Youth Will Harris Jersey , and we pushed everyone to be competitive."NOTES: Giants rookie RB Saquon Barkley was held out of practice for a second straight day with a strained left hamstring. Like his injured teammates, Barkley was in uniform minus shoulder pads. "Just because you don't get the rep doesn't mean you're not responsible for seeing what happened and try to visualize what you'd do if you were out there," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. "As long as they can defend themselves and it's not a lower leg injury of some sort or something where they need immediate attention, I think it's important for them to be out there." ... The Lions lined up Graham Glasgow at guard a day after leaving practice with a left leg injury, and rookie Frank Ragnow was moved to center.

D.J. Swearinger, released abruptly

TEMPE Su’a Cravens Jersey , Ariz. — D.J. Swearinger, released abruptly by the Washington Redskins this week after publicly criticizing the defensive coaching, didn’t need much time to find a landing place. He’s back in Arizona with the Cardinals, where he played part of 2015 and all of the 2016 season.Speaking in front of his new locker on Wednesday, Swearinger called it a “rocky Christmas” and acknowledged that he was wrong to speak out against Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky and criticize the team’s strategy in a 25-16 loss to Tennessee.Still, he was surprised, he said, that it led to his release from the team.“Just living and learning,” Swearinger said, “understanding you know it wasn’t my role to call out the defensive coaches even though we had a relationship. Me and the coaches had a good relationship. But it’s just learning. I keep my mouth shut next time and just keep moving and play football, do what I do on the field.”Swearinger acknowledged he’s emotional and that controlling himself is difficult in the minutes after the game.“I’m a very passionate player,” Swearinger said. “I put my heart in this game. You put the camera in my face after we lose a game that we’re supposed to go to the playoffs, I may say some things that I shouldn’t’ say. That’s on me. I’ve got to control that and get better at that Brandon Scherff Jersey , but like I said, live and learn and keep moving forward. That’s life.”After the Redskins practice Wednesday, coach Jay Gruden said this wasn’t the first time Swearinger had problems such as this.“Yeah, repeat offenses. I’ve had many talks with him before,” Gruden said. “Obviously I didn’t get through to him. Again, that’s my responsibility. At the end of the day we decided as an organization to move on.”Swearinger had made significant contributions to the Washington defense. He had four interceptions (matching a career high), 53 tackles, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.“D.J. did some great things here without a doubt,” Gruden said. “We wish nothing but the best but at the end of the day that’s something that this franchise or any franchise can’t afford to have. We’ve moved on.”Swearinger said he got a nice welcome from Patrick Peterson and other players who were around three seasons ago. Swearinger played four games for Arizona in 2015 and was with the Cardinals the entire 2016 season, finishing with three interceptions, 64 tackles and two sacks. That success led to his three-year deal with Washington. The Cardinals, with the NFL’s worst record at 3-12, were the first team that could claim Swearinger off waivers. He has one year left on the deal he signed with Washington.Arizona’s first-year coach Steve Wilks said that claiming Swearinger was “a great move by us.”“I don’t know him personally but I like his play Preston Smith Jersey ,” Wilks said. “Scouting him, going against him, a very physical guy, tough, nasty, the DNA that we look for. Personality-wise talking to everybody in the locker room, everybody in the building, they love him.”Wilks said he will talk to Swearinger about keeping any criticism in-house.“I don’t stand in front of you guys and throw coaches or players underneath the bus, that’s not my style,” Wilks told reporters. “That’s what we would need to address. I don’t have a problem with his opinion, but we’re not going to have that opinion outside the building. He would quickly understand that.”It’s uncertain whether Swearinger will play in Sunday’s season finale at Seattle or how much he figures in the Cardinals’ plans for next season.“I can only control what I can control,” he said. “Tomorrow I’m going to come get ready for practice like I know how. If I play on Sunday, I’ll be more than ready to play. If I don’t Case Keenum Jersey , I’ll cheer my guys on and do whatever I need to do to help this team win. … I’m just happy to be back in Arizona.”Wilks might not be the coach past this weekend, but Swearinger is planning to stay.“I’m just ready to play, regardless of who the coach is, regardless of who the players are,” Swearinger said. “I’m ready to play and I’m ready to win.”The Redskins’ Josh Norman said it’s just more of the same for his team.“Every week’s been a circus for the last six weeks,” he said.NOTES: Arizona lost yet another offensive lineman when rookie tackle Korey Cunningham was placed on injured reserve. He’s the seventh offensive lineman placed on IR by Arizona this season. WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed could be done for the season because of a strained toe muscle.Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Monday that he thinks Reed was hurt on Mark Sanchez’s high throw on his first pass of a 40-16 loss to the New York Giants a day earlier.Gruden said “there is a level of concern” with Reed, who leads the team with 54 catches and 558 receiving yards.Gruden added that the Redskins will have to wait to see “if it’s one week, two weeks or the rest of the year.”Reed has played in all 13 games so far this season, his sixth in the NFL. He’s never appeared in all 16 games of a season; his career high is 14 in 2015.Washington has a four-game losing streak and is 6-7 with three games remaining, beginning next Sunday at Jacksonville.Gruden mentioned two other injury issues: Receiver Josh Doctson is in the concussion protocol and linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton has a sprained shoulder.

Deshaun Davis Cincinnati Bengals Jersey

Bengals at Falcons Behind Enemy Lines: Grady Jarrett could be a problem for Cincinnati The Bengals will be playing their second consecutive road game this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons Alex Redmond Jersey , a team that will be finishing an early three-game home stretch of their own. This is the second time an Andy Dalton led Bengals team has played the Falcons in a regular season game, as well as first visit for the Bengals inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which happens to be where this year’s Super Bowl will be held. To get prepped for Sunday’s game, we caught up with David Choate of The Falcoholic to get his thoughts on the inter-conference matchup.Patrick Judis: Your rookie wide receiver (Calvin Ridley) had a coming out party with three touchdowns last week. Was that a matter of the Saints paying too much attention to Julio Jones or is he already become one of the Falcons’ top targets?David Choate: Really, it was a combination of both. Calvin Ridley is an unusually gifted route runner for a rookie receiver, and that combined with some slick moves and excellent speed made him hard to cover for a bunch of decent Saints cornerbacks. But it’s also true that especially early on, the Saints were putting a lot of focus on stopping Julio, and Ridley was able to work against favorable one-on-one matchups. He was still a factor after the Saints started paying more attention to him, though, including a huge pass interference call that came when he was dragged to the two by a pair of defenders on a ball that bounced off his helmet.I was wary about Ridley’s immediate impact heading into the year, but the last two weeks have shown he can be a huge factor for this passing game on a weekly basis. As long as teams have to account for Julio Jones, he should have his opportunities to eat, and his early rapport with Matt Ryan is encouraging.PJ: Two weeks in a row Atlanta has allowed a quarterback to throw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. Do you think they will be able to stop that trend with Andy Dalton coming to town?DC: If they do, it won’t be by much. Atlanta’s defense is in rough shape right now, with both starting safeties down for the year and star middle linebacker Deion Jones out for several weeks. The Falcons may get their best pass rusher, Takkarist McKinley, back for this one. They are still dealing with a front four that hasn’t applied much pressure, at least one shaky safety option Bobby Hart Jersey , a diminished group of linebackers and cornerbacks who are great on paper but have had some missed tackles and coverage miscues early on. This should still be a decent defense, but it’s not a great one, and if Cincinnati is smart enough to attack mismatches with Giovani Bernard and their tight ends against safety Jordan Richards and middle linebacker Duke Riley, they should have no trouble piling up the passing yards. PJ: Who is an underrated player on either side of the ball that you think isn’t getting enough national attention?DC: On offense, it’s Ito Smith. The rookie has been insanely impressive over the last two weeks for a fourth round running back who did absolutely nothing in preseason and during the first week. He’s shown excellent hands, shiftiness and speed, parlaying those into consistent yardage against the Panthers and Saints. He has to be accounted for, and teams that underestimate him might find him rumbling through the middle of the defense. On defense, it’s Damontae Kazee. He’ll be filling in for free safety Ricardo Allen, who went on injured reserve this week, and offers the kind of physicality and playmaking ability at the position that the Falcons are lucky to have in the face of the injuries they’re dealing with. I’m very worried about Richards next to him, but Kazee is a good player who should only get better with more playing time. He just needs to be careful about how he tackles. PJ: Could you please introduce Bengals fans to the players who will be going against the right side of the offensive line, so they know who will be in Dalton’s face all game.DC: On the right side, you’ll be facing off against Vic Beasley and Grady Jarrett quite a bit. Beasley has been beyond disappointing thus far in 2018, with one sack and very few pressures in three games. He’s always been quick, but his development has stagnated and we keep waiting for him to improve and become the fearsome edge presence the team figured they were drafting in the top ten. Maybe this is the week he gets it going, but I’m wary about that.Jarrett’s much more of a threat. He’s leading the team in pressures and is a terrific run defender, and he often winds up in the backfield. I’d be worried he’ll be taking Dalton’s lunch a couple of times this game. PJ: What is your prediction for the game?DC: At the risk of sounding like a homer Alex Redmond Jersey , the Falcons should win this. Their defense scraped bottom at week ago, but they’re getting their top pass rusher McKinley back by the sounds of it, and the offense is terrific. At home, where they’ll be capable of hanging 30+ points on the Bengals, I think they pull off something nail-bitingly close like 31-27. Special thanks to Choate again for taking the time out to answer these questions. You can check out more of his stuff at The Falcoholic. Despite an aggressive revamping of the offensive line last offseason, the unit’s struggles persisted for the Bengals, specifically with the interior. Last season it was a mix of rookie center Billy Price getting his feet under him and Alex Redmond being far too inconsistent to warrant being a starter. Of course Clint Boling remind the bright spot at left guard, but it still shouldn’t be shocking to see some competition brought in at center and right guard.Competition at center does not equate to the potential benching of Price though, but would open the possibility to moving him over to right guard, which is a position he also played a considerable amount at Ohio State. The Bengals have nice options with Trey Hopkins and Christian Westerman on the roster already, but with Zac Taylor taking over, we shouldn’t expect him and his staff to automatically bank on players from the previous regime alone.Pro Football Focus recently released their top 10 interior lineman set to be free agents. Although it is really a top nine since the Colts guard, Mark Glowinski, recently signed an extension to stay with the Indianapolis Colts. While it’s easy to say Cincinnati should go out and sign a few of the top five names, that really isn’t how the Bengals build their teams, in case you’ve forgotten. These will be players who could be in the Bengals’ self-imposed budget while also providing valuable depth or starting ability. Here are some guys they should look at and how likely it’d be the Bengals would land them. Most likely to signRodger Saffold, guard, Rams: Saffold is second on PFF’s list Bobby Hart Jersey , but there is solid reasoning as to why the Bengals represent a logical match. The most obvious connection is Taylor having coached the Rams the past two seasons. This would be valuable for Taylor in his attempt to establish the kind of locker room that he is hoping to bring over from Los Angeles. It is always imperative to have veteran players bridge the gap. Saffold will also be 31 when the season starts, which means some of the higher spenders may stray away from adding him as any long term deal could backfire on them.Playing next to Andrew Whitworth at left guard, Saffold played a key role in the Rams’ offensive line being so successful last season, and he ranked as the ninth best guard in the NFL, according to PFF. Saffold would likely make the move to right guard, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the veteran.John Miller, guard, Bills: Miller is one of those low risk type free agents. He doesn’t have an amazing track record recently, but he is only 25 years old. So, he still just hitting the prime of his career. PFF also only charged him with one sack in 529 pass attempts this past season, which is a major upgrade over Redmond’s performance. Miller has the floor of being a valuable backup with the possibility of finally turning into a starter in a new location. A.J. Cann, guard, Jaguars: Cann started off his career looking like he would turn into a pretty good starting guard, but he has fallen off the past two seasons. He will also turn 28 in October. He is another low risk player who isn’t likely to get a blockbuster deal in free agency. Cincinnati took a chance on a former Jaguar who wasn’t quite reaching expectations before when they acquire safety Reggie Nelson, so it is possible they try to repeat history and revive Cann’s career. An outside shotMatt Paradis, center, Broncos: Paradis is PFF’s top ranked interior offensive lineman free agent, but the reason Cincinnati has a little bit of a chance could very well be business related. Paradis will be turning 30 in October Deshaun Davis Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , which means he likely realizes he has one big contract left in his career, and especially after playing on a sixth rounder’s contract the past few years, he will likely look for his payday. The only way Cincinnati has a shot is if teams are’t willing to give him the big deal he deserves. He is coming off a broken fibula in Week 9, which could scare some potential suitors away. The Bengals should attempt to swoop in with a one-year deal similar to what they’ve attempted to do with veteran linebackers over the years.Paradis is easily one of the best centers in the NFL, and he could ultimately start right away while moving Price over to guard. Paradis would also be a great teacher for Price during that season, so if he were to leave in free agency the following season, at least Price would hopefully be more prepared to take back over. So many things have to go right for this to end up happening, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities. Ramon Foster, guard, Steelers: This isn’t as much of a long shot, but it really depends on Foster’s market in free agency. At the age of 33, his quality of play has gotten better over time, and he’s been a consistent component to one of the most dominating offensive lines over the past few years with the Steelers. Even if is on a short term deal, he could be a great veteran to bring in and help turnaround the Bengals struggling offensive line. He isn’t a great long term solution, but he would be an instant upgrade over Redmond.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Latest on the NFL owners meetings Tuesday (all times EDT):6:45 p.m.There’s nothing on the football field Jon Gruden likes more than a big-time playmaker. His Raiders’ trade with Pittsburgh brought to Oakland one of the game’s most dangerous scoring threats in wideout Antonio Brown.“You have to know where he is Rashaan Melvin Jersey ,” Gruden began. “He can help your running game. Put a safety over the top to double that guy, that helps you run the ball, I tell you. It helps the other guy on the other side. That’s why getting Tyrell Williams was huge. Somebody that can take advantage of some one-on-one looks.“It’s also nice to have a receiver who couldn’t care less what the coverage is. I remember Jerry Rice one year, he was so good. I used to see Jerry break the huddle and three (defensive) guys look for him: ‘There he is. Don’t let him catch the ball.’ Then at the end, Jerry had eight catches for 140 yards. He did it every week.“It is great to have a guy who can win. We have to do our part. It is a great responsibility for us to help Antonio Brown be one of the great Raiders of all time.”Gruden took a moment to catch his breath, then spoke about Brown’s skills at freelancing when a play breaks down. He believes that will provide a huge help to quarterback Derek Carr.“It’s huge. That’s where the great ones … that’s the true measuring stick of what makes a receiver great,” he said. “Because they are disguising coverage not just to fool the quarterback, they are disguising coverage to fool the wideout. Boom, they rotate to him. What are you going to do?“Some guys don’t see it and react as quick as others. The great ones, they see it and they can do it at full speed. It’s awesome. When you watch Antonio play, a lot of his production was on scramble plays.“Hopefully we can get Derek to create more on his own, maybe a little better protection Marcus Gilchrist Jersey , maybe he can buy a little more time and let Antonio go over there, then go over there, then go over there and make a play or two.”Derek Carr put Raiders in ‘manageable situations’ in loss to Broncos, Jon Gruden looking for ‘more big chunk plays’ In one regard, Derek Carr’s stat line last Sunday was stunning. I mean, completing 29 of 32 passes is incredible. Over 30 passes with just three incompletions seems hard to believe. What is also a bit hard to believe about those completion numbers is the yardage total. On 29 completions, he had just 288 yards. That’s less than ten yards per completion.Welcome (back) to the West Coast Offense, folks. It’s basic tenets are to dink and dunk defenses to death. There’s nothing wrong with that, but a you can see by Derek Carr’s stat line, even near perfection in completion percentage wasn’t enough to pull out the win with it. At least not with the defense failing to hold up their end. You’ll recall, Gruden and Rich Gannon had a great deal of success in such an offense back around the turn of the century. It’s a conservative offense and that’s how Derek Carr has been approaching it.After the first week, Gruden said he wanted to see Carr push the ball down the field more. While Carr was reluctant Dwayne Harris Jersey , saying he didn’t want to force it. The game plan didn’t do him a lot of favors either, with just two play action passes the whole game. One sign things are changing is that number went up to eight in the second game.“Play-action, you’re holding the ball for a long time. The rush is coming and trust me I know that from experience,” Carr said. “To stay on schedule, you hear coaches say that all the time, you have shot plays and sometimes you have to check them down to get six yards, well third-and-4 is a lot better than third-and-10 for a missed shot. . . We have certain plays that we like versus certain looks that sometimes, it’s hey, ‘get us in this manageable situation, we like these calls and this grouping.’ I could go on for hours about that kind of stuff, but you know. I think that taking eight play-action shots against Denver was pretty aggressive and we were able to do some good things against him.”Short passes to put the Raiders into more manageable was hit or miss Sunday. He had 12 passes for 7 yards or less that weren’t to get the first down. Exactly half of those (6) they were unable to take advantage and get the first down, resulting in a stalled drive. One of those Emmanuel Lamur Jersey , he opted for a short pass to Marshawn Lynch for a loss of four yards, while missing a wide open Amari Cooper in the back of the end zone. There were some deeper throws in this game from Carr. And more deep completions than in the opener. Despite Jared Cook catching four passes of 27 yards or more, only one of those was a deep pass. The others were short passes with yards after the catch. Carr had six passes go for 20 yards or more in Denver, three of which were deep passes, with one being the laser touchdown pass to Seth Roberts. The increase in bigger plays this game makes it even more surprising Carr was unable to surpass ten yards per completion. Which just goes to show you how many short passes there really were. Short passes aren’t the issue, really. It’s about finding the right receiver and putting it right where it needs to be to gets the most yards out of it.“I just want to be productive when we throw it,” said Gruden. “I think [TE Jared] Cook averaged 20-yards a catch in the first game. Throwing the ball on-time and accurate is a big part of winning football. We hope to get more big chunk plays. We are making an attempt to do that, and I think you will see some more of that as the year unfolds.”That’s how Gannon became a Pro Bowl passer under Gruden; By being a smart quarterback who almost always made the right decision. In those four seasons in Gruden’s offense (one after Gruden was gone) Gannon averaged over 26 TD’s and 11 INT with 11.5 yards per completion. And from a yards per catch perspective, Tim Brown had his second and third best seasons. Which means despite the dinks and dunks, there was plenty of deep shots as well.Follow @LeviDamien

Below we have the transcript of special teams coordinator Heath Farwell White Chris Ivory Jerseys , who discussed the player evaluation process, his role and philosophies as a coordinator, the punting-game competition and more.STC Heath FarwellQ: I’m curious about what this time of year is like for you. You are a long way from knowing the final group of guys that you are going to have and getting stuff set up with guys that you aren’t sure who’s going to be here at the end of it all. How do you go about all that?A: I think the beauty of it is that we can do a lot of drill work that kind of gets everybody involved, get a bunch of reps. And the more guys we can get out there to see what they can do and how they can help us come to regular season, that’s what we are doing. We are getting a bunch of guys reps and everybody’s getting involved so we’re taking a look at everybody. Everybody out there, we are evaluating so it’s good.Q: Some of the guys that are drafted, I mean if you are going to make a team, if you’re a fourth-round pick or something, in a lot of cases you better be ready to play special teams. Do you keep a special eye on some of those guys?A: Yeah absolutely. Any of the rookies, they have big shoes to fill. All of these guys have been playing for a long time, recovered kicks at this level for a long time so they definitely got a lot of work to do. In the later rounds and the undrafted free agents, a big part of it is going to be on special teams so that’s going to be a big part. That’s the evaluation, how they play offensively, defensively and of course how can they contribute on special teams on that side of the field too.Q: How much is it for you now that you are in this special teams coordinator role finding your way as being that main guy in that position?A: Like I said Chris Ivory Jerseys 2019 , you just want to be able to evaluate them all and every little bit counts. It’s about how they do on offense and defense and then special teams. It’s a big part of the game and it’s a big emphasis here. Coach McDermott and Brandon Beane, that’s a huge emphasis for them so I’m just trying to help prepare them the best I can and [Matthew] Smiley, my assistant who is doing a really nice job just giving them those tools we can and prepare them. But they are all working hard, that’s the cool thing. Everyone is working their butts off and we are getting better everyday but we have a long ways to go. It’s still early and we are only a couple weeks in but it’s fun to be out here. We are excited to be out here and run around and be out on the grass. We are enjoying it.Q: What about you and your styles specifically, and kind of figuring out how you want to relay your message and run things on that side?A: I’m hoping the message is clear to them, what I’m into and what kind of program we are going to be around here but I think we just have to keep grinding. That’s the thing, we just have to keep working at it. That’s all we got to do, just keep working at it.Q: Are there one or two philosophies right now that this time of year you really try to drill home to guys, especially the younger guys, you want them to then continue to carry on?A: Playing fast and playing smart and playing with juice is kind of the motto we have got around here. It’s playing fast, we want that screaming off the tape. They’ve got to play with great effort, strength and then playing smart. We have got to be smart, we got to know the rules, those are the things. And playing with energy White Jeremy Kerley Jerseys , that’s what the best teams are about. Playing with juice and I’m hoping that’s the message that they are getting and that’s what me and Smiley are trying to portray.Q: What are your thoughts on a punting competition where that stands?A: They’ve both done a good job with their rehabs. They’ve worked their butts off all offseason to get back and both get full strength and they both are doing a really good job. I am happy with where their progress is but we are long ways to go from making a decision. Like I said, they are just competing and they are getting better everyday.Q: When it comes down to September and you need to figure out your special [teams unit] and who needs to be on it and you sit down with the head coach, does he give you a group of names and says these are special teams players or do you ask for certain players? How does that all break down to form the units that you have?A: I think it’s a collective group. It’s how they do offensively and defensively but can they contribute on special teams. When you have those guys that are on the bottom half of the roster, if you could help us out in one other phase or a couple of phases on special teams it has a lot of value. If you’re a backup linebacker it’s all the phases, so I think that’s part of the evaluation process between coach [McDermott], Brandon Beane and the coordinators. How can it help us win games, that’s what it’s about and how can we pick the best guys to help us do that.Q: Some starters you are going to want, aren’t you?A: Absolutely, I’d love to have them all. I’d love to have all the starters out there but that’s part of it. How much are we going to keep those guys out there? They are going to be playing a lot of reps on offense and defense so we got to have backups that play four phases and help out special teams-wise, and they got to be ready to fill in at their position on offense or defense. That’s what it is, it’s how they could help this team win. That’s the most important thing and whatever that value is, is going to be what’s going to make the team.Q: I’m curious how you think your experience as a player going to the Pro Bowl how that helps your current role, whether it’s getting guys to buy in or commanding respect right off the bat and however that sort of factored in?A: I definitely think that’s my coaching style. What I lack in experience in coaching I kind of make it up with playing time. I’ve played up against a lot of these guys or a couple guys I should say and just being in those locker rooms a handful of years ago, I feel like I’ve had a good relationship with them and am still building it. I’m hoping they respect me Jeremy Kerley Jerseys 2019 , I’m hoping I’m getting that respect from them as I’m coaching them because I respect every single one of them and I know what they go through. Understanding what they go through everyday, I would say, nobody knows it better than I do.Q: What’s it been like coaching a guy like Lorenzo [Alexander]?A: It’s great. He’s one of those guys I love to have on every phase because he can still do it on a high level, it’s just a matter of how much I can use him. But I respect Lorenzo, playing against him some handful of times. I’ve said before I couldn’t block him when I was playing against him and I respect him as a player and I respect him still and hopefully I am earning his respect coaching him.Q: How has he helped you transition into this role?A: All those veterans, I rely on them heavily. Being a new coordinator this is all new to me so getting a good understanding of what the feel is, is that clear enough to them, is that clear enough to the young guys because I know those guys, the older guys, get it but what are the young guys getting? It’s the whole group, I’m speaking to everybody not just Lorenzo. Lorenzo knows it as good as anybody. But he’s a good voice to call to let me know if I need to clear something up a little bit more or this so he has been a great sound board for me and a lot of these veterans, I rely on all of these guys who have done this and who have been in special team rooms whether it’s here or with other teams. They are very valuable and I am definitely taking full advantage of those guys.Q: What kind of mindset do they bring to playing special teams that makes them viable, especially to the younger guys?A: I think looking at our starters and their background, that’s where I try to explain to them that Lorenzo started off as a special teams guy and he’s found a niche playing defense and has found a great role for him White Micah Hyde Jerseys , but it wouldn’t have been if he didn’t play for special teams all those years at a high level. So we have several cases like that where guys contributing whether it’s Micah Hyde, some of these other guys or Jordan Poyer who would be on every phase if we let him. That’s a great example to these young guys. You see veterans who want to sit in the meetings, want to be there, want to be on them. It just shows the importance of special teams and a good team. That’s what I try to tell these guys. The good teams that I’ve been on and been a part of have good leaders who are willing to play special teams and care and really mentor the younger guys and know the importance of them because a lot of these rookies and young players have never played special teams in college, so it’s all new to them. We are starting from scratch but they have good role models for what it could look like.Q: What are the challenges of coaching special teams to the point where you guys are running around in shorts?A: It is hard but we make the most of it. Every team is doing the same thing, we do more bags or we do one-on-one drills. That’s why I break it down to drills as much as we do to try and break it down into little pieces and try to get the most out of them. I try to show them the drill and then show them the meaning of how to use that drill in the game. All of those drills, there’s a reason we are doing them and it’s putting those pieces together. So when we put on that game tape, that’s where you use that move that I just tried to teach you, that tool. I think just putting it all together especially for the young guys who don’t have a big understanding of the full game of special teams yet. So you do these drills, you kind of put it together in the meeting room and explain how that’s valuable and how you can use that tool.

The New York Giants gave it their all

White Jonathan Stewart Jerseys , but they finished the 2018 season just about the only way they could. They lost, but they made it a close loss, complete with highlight reel plays from Saquon Barkley and a disappointing defensive performance at the end to let victory slip away. The Giants’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys was a nearly perfect encapsulation of their 2018 season. This was our last look at the Giants before the 2019 free agency and draft seasons, let’s see what parting lessons they had for us. The Giants have work to do on the offensive lineWhen Dave Gettleman was hired he came in with sturm und drang, declaring that he would fix the offensive line, bring in “Hog Mollies,” and in general return the franchise to an earlier era of Giants football. Pat Shurmur talked about “changing the transmission” of the Giants’ offense, as they proceeded to completely tear down and rebuild the offensive line over the course of the year.Unfortunately, the Giants’ offensive line regressed.Eli Manning was sacked 47 times, eight more times than his previous high of 39, and 16 more sacks than in 2017 (despite attempting all of five more passes). The Giants finished with the 27th ranked run blocking offensive line (according to Football Outsiders), and spent most of the season with one of the very worst. A year ago they were ranked 15th. The Giants found a keeper in left guard Will Hernandez. The guard, who nobody expected to fall out of the first round of the draft, looks to be a long-term foundation piece. The team is locked in to left tackle Nate Solder for at least another year, and while Jamon Brown wasn’t the mid-season savior many hoped he would be Jonathan Stewart Jerseys 2019 , he was an upgrade over Patrick Omameh and he might be the Giants’ best option going forward. They could also hope that he plays better with better pieces around him.Center and right tackle, however, need to be addressed and upgraded this season. Chad Wheeler is a high-effort player, but a liability on the edge. Jon Halapio will return from injury, but he wasn’t particularly good before hie was hurt. (In particular, he struggled using his hands in the run game, and too often couldn’t snap the ball and get his hands up before defenders were into his pads. He is a low-cost option and should have the chance to continue to develop and compete, however.)Spencer Pulley showed why the Los Angeles Chargers felt comfortable in letting him go. Whether it is in the draft or in free agency, the Giants need to find answers for their offensive line. They were able to scheme around it in the last two weeks, and these two games should heavily inform their offensive scheme next year. Doing football things, however, will be MUCH easier if they don’t have a leaky, inconsistent offensive line.Saquon Barkley is really good at football The debate whether Barkley was the right pick for the Giants in 2018 will probably rage on for some time. In all honesty, it hasn’t been decided yet, but drafting Barkley instead of a quarterback leaves them with uncertainty at the most important position on the field. There is still time to address the position and maximize the potential of Barkley White Nate Solder Jerseys , Odell Beckham Jr.We can pick that debate up again tomorrow. For now, let’s just appreciate that Barkley joins Edgerrin James and Eric Dickerson to became the third rookie in NFL history with 2,000 yards from scrimmage. And in the final game of the season, Barkley got back to giving us highlight reel plays. Plays like these: Whoops, that was a scene from Space Jam. I meant this: And, of course, there was the play that put him over 2,000 yards on the season: He also set the record for receptions by a rookie running back: Evan Engram needs to be a major piece of the 2019 offenseIs Engram a 6-foot-6, 270-pound monster who can match up with a defensive end in pass protection and blow open holes in the run game? Nope, and attempts to use him as such are a mistake by the coaching staff. But credit where credit is due, with Beckham injured, Pat Shurmur has adjusted his usage of Engram, and Engram has responded by being the Giants’ most consistently productive offensive player over the last quarter of the season. Engram is a high effort player in the blocking game, though his frame will always limit the types of players he can match up against. Where he has an advantage over the prototypical tight ends is that he can play from all over the offensive formation, and be a true explosive mismatch. He is also a very tough ball carrier Nate Solder Jerseys 2019 , consistently working through contact and selling out for every yard. The trick for Pat Shurmur will be to remember what Engram is capable of when Beckham gets back healthy. The Giants need pieces on defense I already mentioned that the Giants need to add pieces to their re-built offensive line. They also still need to address the future of their quarterback position. They also need many pieces to field the kind of defense that James Bettcher wants to put on the field. Olivier Vernon finished the game with 2.5 sacks and was harassing Dak Prescott all game long — but he has struggled to convert pressure into production all season long, and only really produced against back-up offensive tackles. Curtis Riley had four interceptions on the year, but has been a liability at free safety all season ... And then he did whatever this was: The Giants still have struggled against tight ends and have a habit of making them — particularly Dallas tight ends — look like All-Pro players. Eight of their eleven losses were by a touchdown or less. While their offensive struggles certainly contributed to that, their defense’s inability to hold a lead and close out games was the primary reason. When the Giants had an 11-5 season and went to the play-offs in 2016, the defense’s ability to finish close games was a deciding factor, and it’s a factor that eludes them. They need to pour resources into this defense, and make smart decisions doing so.Giants cuts tracker: Tracking Giants roster moves, trades, rumors, updates, and more The NFL preseason is over and teams are now going about the serious business of trimming rosters from 90 players to the regular season limit of 53. New York Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree said Friday that it’s a “bittersweet” time because the regular season is starting, but players who will stay are bidding goodbye to players who may be seeing their NFL dreams come to an end.Giants coach Pat Shurmur said after Thursday’s preseason finale that the Giants have “enough information” to make good decisions about the roster.“I feel like we’ve got enough information,” Shurmur said.” We played all the players through the preseason, so we’re not going to be guessing as to whether a guy can do it or not. We’re in a position now to pick that initial 53-man roster.”Cutting players you have worked with for months is part of a head coach’s job, but not an easy one. “The human element of it is tough White Kareem Martin Jerseys ,” Shurmur said. “I think we all get used to it, but if you’ve got a heart and you’ve got a soul, you’re talking about guys’ livelihood. It’s a tough situation that way, but it’s real.”Shurmur said Friday that but that the Giants “have a decent idea” who will and won’t make the roster. We will find out who those guys are today.GM Dave Gettleman said Thursday that the Giants “will keep the 53 best” players and would then “work the waiver wire” to try and upgrade spots on the roster where possible. We will be tracking the cuts between now and the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Saturday to reach the roster limit, so keep checking back for updates. Roster movesThe reported list of cuts with less than an hour to go:— WR Marquis Bundy— WR Alonzo Russell— OL Malcolm Bunche— RB Jhurell Pressley— DT A.J. Francis— WR Travis Rudolph— DT Tyrell Chavis— LB Calvin Munson— OL Zac Kerin— CB Grant Haley— CB Chris Lewis-Harris— S Andrew Adams— WR Roger Lewis Jr.— RB Jalen Simmons— WR Kalif Raymond— OT Chris Scott— WR Amba Etta-Tawo— K Marshall Koehn — ILB Mark Herzlich — DT Izaah Lunsford — S Darian Thompson— LB Warren Long— TE Garrett Dickerson— CB Leonard Johnson— CB Mike Jones— OL Nick Gates (placed on IR)— OLB Avery MossThought Darian Thompson might end up on IR due to his lingering hamstring injury. Didn’t think Giants would outright waive him. If Thompson, a 2016 third-round pick goes unclaimed, he reverts to the Giants injured reserve list. [Full story]Garrett Dickerson, an undrafted free agent, seems like a favorite to land on the practice squad. With Leonard Johnson, Chris Lewis-Harris and Grant Haley all released, the Giants are obviously going to be scouring the waiver wire for cornerback help.A fifth-round pick last season by then-GM Jerry Reese, Avery Moss missed most of the spring with an injury and never caught up. I don’t believe he has practice squad eligibility, so he will be moving on.There was some thought that veteran offensive lineman Chris Scott could sneak onto the roster. That, apparently, isn’t happening.More to come on the release of veteran linebacker Mark Herzlich. [Full story]It has been obvious for a while that Aldrick Rosas was going to win the placekicking job.Amba Etta-Tawo had a good spring and a fast start to training camp. He disappeared in the preseason Kareem Martin Jerseys 2019 , though, with his only reception being Thursday’s 41-yard touchdown catch-and-run. He would seem like a logical practice squad candidate.Jhurell Pressley had two good preseason games, but he was never really likely to make the team. He was roster fill to help the Giants through preseason.Surprised by the cut of A.J. Francis. Said multiple times that he and Robert Thomas have similar skill sets, but thought both guys would make it. Guess that might be good news for someone like Romeo Okwara. [Full story]Travis Rudolph made a splash in the 2017 preseason, but his lack of speed and size made it difficult for him. He was also injured for a lengthy stretch in preseason, limiting his opportunities.Tyrell Chavis would be a logical practice squad addition. In my 53-man roster projection I had Grant Haley going to the practice squad. Thought he might sneak onto the roster once news broke that Chris Lewis-Harris was being released. Looks like the Giants will be scouring the waiver wire for some cornerback help. I would think Haley will land on the practice squad if he clears waivers. The Alex Tanney move is no surprise. He was never making the roster unless there was a major injury to Eli Manning, Davis Webb or Kyle Lauletta. The release of Kalif Raymond likely means Hunter Sharp wins the punt return job.Andrew Adams is a player the Giants just didn’t seem to believe was a fit in James Bettcher’s defense. I thought Chris Lewis-Harris played well enough on Thursday vs. the New England Patriots to earn a roster spot. Giants thought otherwise. [Full story]We have been telling you since the spring that the Giants’ new coaching staff has had Roger Lewis Jr., who had 26 receptions last season, buried on the depth chart. Now, the Giants are moving on without him.2018 Waiver Wire OrderOrderTeamOrderTeam
