It wasn't just that an All-Star first baseman agreed to play third. It was that he offered to do it without ever being asked, because the Braves had traded for first baseman Matt Adams while he was hurt, and while Adams was hitting well, third base was more of a problem."He was the one who made the suggestion," said Ron Washington, who coaches the Braves infielders. "And he handled himself immaculately."Freeman shrugs it off. He signed out of high school as a third baseman, he reminds you. They're a half game out of first in the NL East and have such a surplus of young talent that it's not hard to see them contending for many seasons ahead.Freeman, however, never wavered in saying how much he wanted to play for the Braves through all the losing. He's happily married, his son Charlie is nearly two years old and he's already picking up anything that looks like a baseball bat and swinging it. On the field, Freddie is playing well and his team is winning.And he doesn't even have to fight Atlanta's notorious traffic to get to the ballpark each day.The Braves moved to SunTrust Park before the 2017 season, and in preparation for the switch from Turner Field, Freeman moved, too. He had lived in Atlanta year-round since 2011, even though his family in California would prefer to have him closer to home in the winter.But the new park is in Cobb County, on the north side of town, and Freeman wanted to be a little closer."It's 13 minutes, all on back roads," he said.He loves the new park and the development around it. He praised first-year general manager Alex Anthopoulos for improving and enlarging the room where players' families wait after games.He's proud that when he sees opposing players at first base, they all tell him they view Atlanta as a great place to play.Just as Freeman has always believed.He admits there were times during the year everyone else got traded that he didn't understand why it had to happen. But he says he came to believe it was the right thing for the organization, even though it hurt him to lose close friends, as well as talented teammates.He told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnicklast year that the Heyward trade was the toughest to take."Selfishly, me and him would always say we wanted to play our whole careers together," Freeman said then. "It was definitely weird seeing him leave.鈥滲ut ask him now about the friends who left, and Freeman has a different outlook."You never know," he said. "They might come back."You never know. The Braves could use a top closer. Kimbrel will be a free agent this winter.They might come back, and they might love it. But they won't be able to appreciate it the way Freeman does.He was the one chosen to stay. That’s not “jump out of a pool” stuff, but the man was named one of college football’s most freakish athletes. He’s explosive, powerful, and he turns a corner well on pass rushes. I have seen him with third and fourth round grades. I’ll admit that most of Hager’s best film comes from 2016, since he had a dip in production in 2017. In this case, if Hager does fall, another Pace project might be a steal. But he seems to have put his past behind him on all accounts. The 6-foot-1, 235 pound linebacker stood out at East Mississippi Community College in 2016 and was a focal point of the ‘Last Chance U’ documentary series that season. He then returned to Texas Tech and totaled 101 tackles, two interceptions, and two sacks.Allen is a consistent tackler who takes good angles to defenders in space. He has good closing speed, good acceleration off the snap when blitzing up the A or B gaps, and is a fluid mover in space. He’s great at working off of blocks to make plays against the run, and often jumps on top of gang tackles to further ensure that his teammates bring the ballcarrier down. Allen is not polished from an instincts standpoint, and one would figure that he could play at a much higher speed with more efficiency if he had better pre-snap awareness. However, he seems to be a prime candidate to stand out as a special teamer early on in his career before possibly settling into a starting role with experience under his belt.As previously mentioned, the Bears don’t need an inside linebacker, so the selection of Allen could be unlikely even without mentioning his off-the-field track record. He’s a high-upside developmental player, though, and he figures to be a solid late-round draft pick wherever he’s drafted.Josh: Rodney Anderson, RB, OklahomaThis one comes with an asterisk or two. Some boards I’ve seen suggest that Anderson is taken in the first round, and they consider him the second best running back in the draft. Obviously, that would not make him a late-round sleeper. However, other boards have Anderson out of the top 100. Why? When he’s healthy, the 6-foot-1 Womens Trey Burton Jersey , 219-pound Anderson plays the position extraordinarily well. However, that’s an important qualifier, because his health has not been exceptional. His running style also subjects him to punishment, exacerbating that issue.Anderson also has significant character red flags. If, and only if, Anderson comes out and then slides, do I think the Bears could pull the trigger. However, it’ll be interesting to see which Anderson plays in 2018.
