Raiders week 4 Ballers & Busters vs Browns What was an exciting game to watch live was absolutely bananas upon second viewing. There was a whole lotta offense and a whole lotta turnovers. Back and forth http://www.raiderscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-jared-cook-jersey , up and down the rollercoaster with the Raiders seemingly flatlining several times only to be brought back to life. The Raiders were leading 7-4 after one only to lose the lead early in the second. They would remain trailing through three quarters then take back the lead 31-28 early in the fourth. They would extend their lead to 34-28 only to lose it and then see their deficit grow to 42-34 with 4:20 left in the game. A drive that was stopped at the 9-yard-line with a turnover on downs seemed like the lynchpin. As did a run by Carlos Hyde on the ensuing Browns drive that was initially ruled a first down but overturned on review, forcing a punt and giving the Raiders 1:28 left to drive for a score and a 2-point conversion to tie it. That’s just what they did and sent the game to overtime where they would eventually win on a short field goal.Putting together a list of Ballers and Busters can be difficult in games like this. The heroes all had their moments in which they looked like they would be the goat and the goats all had their moments of triumph. In times like this, it’s important to have a process and sticking with it to limit the amount of uncertainty. I try to do just that in this week’s B&B.BallersMarshawn LynchSpeaking of Lynchpins, Beastmode offered one in overtime, breaking several tackles and fighting for extra yards to give the Raiders a first down at the 14-yard-line and set them up for a short field goal to win it. Marshawn played the hero well before that though. He had a 12-yard run and a 17-yard catch and run on the Raiders first scoring drive. Late in the third quarter he took a pitch and broke off 52 yards up the left sideline. He might have had another big play like that in the game had the officials not blown the play dead while he was still breaking tackles. Even without the potential yards from the play, Marshawn would lead the team with 157 yards from scrimmage including 20 rushes for 130 yards (6.5 ypc). This is to say nothing of his blitz pickups to open up the passing game. I’ll let Brian Baldinger tell it.Derek Carr, Jared Cook, Amari Cooper, Jordy NelsonDerek Carr had plenty of mistakes in this game, some of which cost the Raiders dearly and were a major factor in them being in the hole they were in. But in the end, he would slice through a beaten up Browns secondary to pull out the win.The game began with two three-and-outs. The second of those, saw Carr badly underthrow Jordy Nelson who had a step on his defender and plenty of open field in which to run. The pass hit Nelson’s ankle and instead of a huge gain Gabe Jackson Jersey , the drive ended. Things would get better. On the following drive, he found Coop twice for gains of 14 yards and 15 yards on third down and Cook for 12 yards to set up a 47-yard field goal attempt which the rookie newcomer would miss wide left.Midway through the second quarter saw the Raiders’ first scoring drive. On the third play, Martavis Bryant would get wide open and Derek Carr would throw it for him in the end zone. Carr put some air under it to ensure he didn’t overthrow Bryant and when the speedy receiver slowed up to get it, he misjudged it and it fell incomplete. That play must be noted because the response was crucial to the success of this team. Instead of letting the missed opportunity do them in, they mounted a touchdown drive anyway. A couple short completions and a short run set up the Raiders at the 8-yard-line and Carr threw a bullet to Coop for the touchdown. With the Raiders down 17-14, Carr would go on another drive which included a 16-yard pass to Cook and a 10-yard completion to Nelson. But ultimately it would end with Carr overthrowing Cook across the middle for an interception.Carr’s interception problems weren’t over. His second pass of the third quarter, he forced to Martavis Bryant up the left sideline and Damarious Randall swooped over from his deep safety spot and pick it off and return it 50 yards to the 31-yard-line. The Browns scored the touchdown in a few plays for their largest lead of the game at 28-14.It was up to Carr to dig the Raiders out of the hole he put them in. He got help from the defense with a strip sack near the goal line and he converted by connecting with Cook for a 7-yard touchdown completion. Early in the fourth quarter a fumbled snap recovered by the Raiders would once again set them up in the red zone and Carr once again threw for the score, this time to Jordy Nelson from 19 yards out to give the Raiders the 31-28 lead.Carr caught a huge break when a clear fumble on a strip sack was blown dead by the officials and ruled as just a sack. The Browns would still push it to an 8-point lead, giving Carr just over four minutes to try and put something together. A 28-yard completion to Martavis Bryant helped that endeavor. As did a 31-yard strike to Coop. But an early throw by Carr to an area where Coop wasn’t in the end zone on 4th down would end the threat and put the Raiders chances at slim.Luckily they would get the ball back with 1:28 remaining. A Browns holding penalty would save their bacon on third and one. Then Carr got a lot of help from the J-squad -- Jordy, Jared, and Jalen. He found Jared for 19, Jalen Richard for 18 Cheap Derek Carr Jersey , and Jared again for the 7-yard touchdown. On the 2-point conversion Carr threw for Jordy out left in tight coverage from former Raiders corner TJ Carrie and Jordy strongarmed the catch in to tie up the game.To overtime they went. On the first third down, Amari put a soul crushing double move on Carrie to break wide open out left for a 36-yard catch. A 9-yard catch by Cook should have put them in scoring range to end it, but Carr was sacked and rookie kicker Matt McCrane would miss the 50-yard attempt, again wide left. More heroics would be needed.A three-and-out by the Browns and the Raiders would go on another drive. On third and 3, Cook would make a ridiculous catch for 24 yards. Carr then went to Seth Roberts for 9 yards and then picked up the first down on the keeper. The next play it was Coop for 14 yards to put the Raiders back in field goal range. Marshawn’s run made it comfortable and ball game.Carr threw for over 400 yards, Coop had over 100 yards (128) and a touchdown, Cook went over 100 (110) with 2 TD’s, and Nelson added 5 catches for 48 yards a TD and the game-tying 2-point conversion.Rodney HudsonOutside of a run stop and a pressure, Hudson was superb in this game. He was who Jon Gruden said was the player of the game for calling out the Browns’ blitzes all game and the Raiders ability to score 42 point in regulation and win it in overtime is proof of that.Maurice Hurst, Arden Key, Johnathan HankinsThe Raiders have just five sacks this season, but two of them belong to Maurice Hurst. They have 14 QB hits and 5 belong to Key. And they have just two fumble recoveries and both belong to Hankins – both of them occurred in this game.Key’s got a hit on Mayfield early in the second drive and was flagged for the most ridiculous roughing the passer penalty you’ll ever see. The very next play Rodney Hudson Jersey , his blocker would be flagged for holding. Hurst got involved on the next play, batting down a pass at the line. Still the Browns would drive to the 2-yard-line, but when they tried the jet sweep that has worked so well on the Raiders the first three weeks, Key was ready and stopped it for a 6-yard loss and they settled for a field goal.Late in the second quarter, with the Raiders down three and hoping to have another chance to score before the half, Hurst ran all the way outside and up the field to make the tackle short of the sticks to force a punt.He would make the run stop on the first play of the third quarter too. Then midway through the third, he would make the strip sack on Baker Mayfield, Hankins would pounce on it at the 7-yard-line in first and goal and the offense would score a touchdown on three plays. On third and 11 on the next drive, Key would get a run at Mayfield again. He would miss the sack on the slippery rookie QB, but the quick throw would sail out of bounds to force a punt.Early in the 4th quarter, with the Raiders were still down 28-24, Mayfield would fumble the snap and Hankins was once again right there to pounce on it to give the Raiders the ball in scoring position. And once again the Raiders would get a touchdown out of it.Late in the fourth quarter http://www.raiderscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-tahir-whitehead-jersey , with under two minutes remaining and the Browns up 8, the Raiders desperately needed a three and out to keep their hopes alive. Hurst helped provide that with a run stop on second down. On third and two, it was Key who formed the wall through which Carlos Hyde couldn’t penetrate to reach the first down marker. It gave the Raiders the ball back with enough time to drive for the tie.Honorable MentionReggie Nelson – He gave up a big touchdown catch in the game, but to his credit he had the interception in the waning seconds of regulation to keep the Browns from trying to drive back down field to win it in regulation.Keith Smith – He had two big tackles on special teams and an even bigger block to spring Dwayne Harris on his 49-yard punt return that set up a field goal in the fourth quarter.Continue to the BustersRaiders Week 2 power rankings round-up: Raiders drop from already low rankings following week one loss Welcome to our weekly round-up of the Oakland Raiders Power Rankings from around the internet. The Raiders lost to the Los Angeles Rams 33-13 last night, and fell in most power rankings. The defense without Khalil Mack failed to get enough pressure on Jared Goff and the Rams, while the offense had some costly turnovers.

If/when Khalil Mack returns to Raiders Womens Johnny Townsend Jersey , he will join a young and suddenly very formidable defensive line For a franchise historically famous for their terrifying pass rushers, the Oakland Raiders sure have fielded a lackluster defensive line for the better part of the past two decades. That could change under defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and a draft class featuring P.J. Hall, Maurice Hurst, and Arden Key. One of the first decisions Paul Guenther made when he took the opening as Raiders defensive coordinator was to permanently move Bruce Irvin from linebacker to defense end. Irvin totaled 15.0 sacks and 10 forced fumbles outside linebacker the past two seasons in Oakland. But those numbers could have easily been improved had he been rushing the quarterback on a more consistent basis. Needless to say, Irvin was happy with the move. “That was the best news I heard in a minute,” Irvin told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I can drop in coverage. I can do it pretty good. But that’s not what I prefer to do so when I got that news that I was strictly a D-End now, that was music to my ears.”That was just the start for Guenther. As the defensive coordinator on a team with an offensive minded head coach, Guenther had a large say in selecting defensive linemen P.J. Hall, Arden Key, and Maurice Hurst in April’s draftDespite recording 37.0 sacks at Sam Houston State, the Raiders use of a second round pick on Hall was widely-viewed as a reach. Four months later, the selection looks brilliant as Hall has been a force from the nose tackle position. “Well, you know, that was the question mark coming from a small school. Can he handle this level?” Guenther said of Hall. “I studied inside pass rushers for a long time, the size Youth Rodney Hudson Jersey , the strength, the speed, all the characteristics that you’re looking for the three-technique for us on our defense. All those things match up.”“I think the first couple days in pads where we were doing pass rush, you started to see the explosive get-off that he has and the movements that he has. And he’s strong as an ox, so I think it was really early in training camp that I realized we have a special guy here.”After recording a sack in his preseason debut, Hall followed the performance with an 86.5 grade against the Rams according to Pro Football Focus. With Hall playing at nose tackle, fifth rounder Maurice Hurst has spent the majority of his time in the three-technique. The First-Team All-American from Michigan would have been a top-ten pick barring a heart defect that led his fall in the draft. So far, Hurst has stayed healthy and has played as advertised. Through three preseason games, he ranks 11th among interior defenders with a 77.7 pass rusher grade. Arguably the Raiders most impressive rookie has been defensive end Arden Key. Like Hurst, the former LSU defensive end was viewed as a top-ten talent on the field, but dropped to the third round due to character concerns. Bruce Irvin took the rookie under his wing, and Key has stayed out of trouble ever since while being nearly unblockable throughout Raiders Training Camp. His quickness and bend off the edge brings reminiscence of Von Miller. And while he has room to improve in the run game, Key should immediately step in as an effective third down pass rusher. Fadol Brown, Tank Carradine, and Shalique Calhoun have all impressed as well and should provide Guenther with valuable depth among his front-seven. After the third preseason game against the Packers Youth Jared Cook Jersey , the three of them gave the Raiders a lot to think about.“[Tank] Carradine had his best game, Fadol and Calhoun can play special teams. So, there’s some really good candidates. We’re excited about it,” Gruden said Monday. He gushed about Fadol Brown in particular.“He has quietly gone about his business,” Gruden said of Brown. “His factor grade. Forget about the sack and a half he was rewarded, I thought he closed out the Detroit Lions with the strip at the end of the game. His factor grade, pressures, penetrations, pursuit plays, was very, very good for a defensive end.”Of course, the success of the defensive line hinges on whether Khalil Mack returns to the team. There is no doubt Key has impressed, but the idea he can replace Mack or even come close is laughable. Mack is arguably the most dominant defensive player in the NFL period, regardless of position. After becoming the first player in NFL history to be selected at two positions on the 2015 Associated Press All-Pro Team, Mack was named the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year. Since 2015 Womens P.J. Hall Jersey , he leads the entire NFL with 257 pressures. But that isn’t where his value ends as he is also one of the best run-stoppers in football. To put it simply, Mack is on track to become one of the best defensive ends in NFL history, you don’t replace a player like that. The Raiders have the coaching and players in place to field a solid defensive line without Mack, but whether or not this unit becomes truly dominant is reliant on number 52. If he re-signs with the Silver & Black, the Raiders will boast a young and talented defensive line for years to come. Follow @TylerGreenSB Once again, the game against the Indianapolis Colts showed that it is smart to start whoever is playing the Oakland Raiders, for Andrew Luck took apart the Oakland defense with heavy use of his tight ends. On the Raiders side of the ball, Derek Carr did have a much-needed monster game. Jared Cook was a main beneficiary scoring a touchdown and picking up 74 receiving yards. At the running back position, Doug Martin performed nicely until he fumbled the football ultimately costing the game. Jalen Richard looked explosive, but was only a factor in the passing game catching eight balls. For Thursday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, it might not be as easy. Playing whoever is going against Oakland might not hold true as San Francisco might be starting their third-string quarterback Nick Mullens. Must StartQB Derek CarrCarr is only going to get better as the season progresses since he will become more comfortable with Jon Gruden’s offense. Last week, Carr looked great throwing for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Against the 49ers, Carr might have even more time to throw, if Kelechi Osemele returns, and will get to go against a poor defense that is allowing as many passing yards per game as Oakland with 263 yards per game. TE Jared Cook Similarly to last week Womens Leon Hall Jersey , the San Francisco defense is bad and there aren’t very many weapons for Carr to rely on besides Cook. With Carr clicking, Cook will have another good night on the national stage. Proceed with CautionRB Doug Martin + RB Jalen RichardMartin and Richard are grouped together because they are pretty much the yin and yang. Martin will get all the running snaps, but will be a minimal threat out of the backfield. Richard will get many dump offs in the passing game. But I am more confident in Richard, especially if those reading play PPR (point per reception) as Carr has not hesitated to dumb the ball off to Richard shown by his eight receptions on Sunday. Furthermore, Richard hasn’t broken a big play yet this season. As long as the offense goes his way in the passing game, he will break one to the house against the poor 49er defense. RB Matt Breida I am not sure if there any players to start on the 49ers aside from Matt Breida. And even he is a worrisome play for many factors. Breida is coming off an ankle injury and has only ran for 57 yards on 21 carries over the last two games. However, Breida will likely get a ton of carries considering San Francisco is possibly starting Mullens at quarterback if CJ Beathard can’t go and Breida gets to face an Oakland front that is dead last in the league against the run allowing 144.7 yards per game. TE Greg Kittle Much like Breida, there is a lot going for Greg Kittle that would entice someone to start him, yet there is a lot going against him. Kittle has been a solid and consistent target the entire year tallying 37 receptions for 584 yards and two touchdowns in nine games. The Raiders have also been miserable against the tight end position. Just last week, Oakland allowed 133 yards and three touchdowns to the position against the Colts. But then again, who is starting at quarterback? If there is no one to throw the ball to Kittle it won’t matter if the Raiders’ secondary is letting him run wide open down the field. BenchRaiders D/STAs enticing a matchup could be against the massively injured Niners that could be starting a third-string quarterback, it is still too tough to play this defense.Kyle Shanahan will probably scheme something up successfully regardless of who is under center.

Glover Quin Jersey

Our semi-regular segment on solicitations from seasoned opponents swings soon to the Seattle Seahawks. The last thing these two teams faced off Sam Martin Jersey , bad things happened.Anyway, to dissect the new-look Seahawks (they’re a new-look insomuch as each year is a new look, I suppose) we talked to Kenneth Arthur from Field Gulls.1. All the talk from the beginning of the year was about the continued disintegration of the Seahawks roster of yesteryear. How true is that right now, and how well are the Hawks keeping pace in their division?I mean, it is true that Seattle parted with a unusually high number of its starters. I wrote this week that the Seahawks have changed at least 14 starters from this time a year ago and that is certainly a lot, including some former Pro Bowl players like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett, Jimmy Graham, and Sheldon Richardson. But the sentiment of “disintegration” as you described, as people were describing it, didn’t really make a ton of sense to me. I mean, without Sherman or Chancellor or Cliff Avril, they beat the Eagles by 14 points last season and finished 9-7, very close to the playoffs. Bennett was getting older, Sherman was coming off of a serious injury, Bradley McDougald had played really well in place of Kam, Richardson was good but not a part of what Pete Carroll had built from 2012-2016, and Graham potentially hurt more than he helped. Here’s what I cared about: Carroll was still the head coach, Russell Wilson was still the quarterback, Bobby Wagner and Earl Thomas were still on the defense. To me, that was enough for the Seahawks to compete for a wild card, and even without ET these last couple of games, that’s what they’re doing.Seattle dropped to 0-2 to start the year with two close road losses and they’ve won three of their last four with a near-win over the LA Rams. They won’t win the NFC West Quandre Diggs Jersey , but I think they (along with the Lions) will compete for an NFC wild card spot. Given that they do have so many new starters, and that those starters are by in large younger and cheaper than their predecessors, it keeps me hopeful.2. Frank Clark has become a standout defensive player for the Seahawks, what’s made him so special this year?I’m sure many of your readers are familiar with Clark’s back story as a former Michigan standout who was kicked off of the team following an arrest for domestic violence and assault. If not for that, Clark could have been a top-15 pick in the 2015 draft. Instead, the Seahawks took him 63rd overall, which from a talent standpoint was great value, but from a human standpoint, was quite a risk. Still, if Clark stayed out of trouble, the potential was always there for him to be a special pass rusher, maybe even among the elite. Compare his measurables to Jadeveon Clowney and you’ll see that even though Clowney is clearly a step above, Clowney is also arguably the greatest pass rushing prospect of the century — and Clark isn’t that far behind, even registering a higher vertical and faster short shuttle at a heavier weight. In 3.5 years, Clark has stayed out of trouble and his trajectory as a great pass rusher has been there all along; he had 19 sacks in the last two years despite spending almost 1.5 of those seasons as a backup to Avril and Bennett. He now has 5.5 sacks in six games this season and he could join some exclusive pass rushing company in franchise history, forcing Seattle to decide if they want to give him a $80 million+ extension before the year is over. He’s incredibly strong and disruptive. He’s got the ability to just push a left tackle right into a quarterback in under a few seconds (albeit if your left tackle isn’t that good, however he’s done some incredible work against Andrew Whitworth in last couple of matchups against the Rams) or to leap right over a player if need be. I think one issue is that Clark can be a little inconsistent and below the sack numbers, his pressure numbers aren’t “elite” like many of his peers. He gives the Seahawks a pass rusher that offenses must focus their attention on, potentially opening opportunities for Jarran Reed and Quinton Jefferson, but he himself could also stand to do a little bit more pressuring and consistently getting to the quarterback.3. How would you grade Russell Wilson’s performance through the first half of this season?I think Wilson is having the most unusual season of his career, but that’s probably only because this is his first season without Darrell Bevell as his offensive coordinator. Wilson’s taken some time to adjust to Brian Schottenheimer’s game plan, which includes virtually no threat of a run by Wilson after six years of him being a “dual threat” quarterback. Wilson had a couple of really bad games earlier in the year, but he’s settled into things over the last four games, throwing eight touchdowns against one interception (which was in fact a really bad throw by Wilson) and 8.17 Y/A. Wilson’s on pace for a new career high in touchdowns and he’s found a nice rhythm with Tyler Lockett Glover Quin Jersey , David Moore, and Doug Baldwin. The Seahawks are getting tight end Ed Dickson for the first time this week after he spent the first six games on NFI and he’s here to help with the blocking mostly, so that hopefully gives Wilson even more time in the pocket behind a very-much improved offensive line.More time in the pocket, better rhythm with his receivers, more experience with a new system, I like where Wilson is headed. But if you can pressure him, if you can take away his number one option on a play, Wilson is prone to making dumb scrambles and every once in awhile maybe a bad throw, plus he fumbles more than any other quarterback in the game. I think the Lions will be a challenge for him, especially 10 AM (our time) on the road.4. Who is the best video game player on the Seahawks right now? If you don’t know, tell me who you think it might be.Yeah, I don’t know what a video game player is, to be honest. That makes me think of Michael Vick, so I assume that’s what you mean? Tyler Lockett is having a good season. In the past he was just thought of as an exciting return man, but his return game is actually kind of boring now and he’s instead a fairly reliable deep threat. Lockett has five touchdowns and is definitely someone defenses want to keep the ball away from.I think of running back Chris Carson as more of a bruising, between-the-tackles kind of back, but he’s also one of my favorite players on the offense. That being said, I think Rashaad Penny might be more of the “video game” type; he’s fast, elusive, and he’s got the potential to be one of the most exciting backs in the league one day. I don’t think that day is this Sunday, however. He’s third on the depth chart and has been inconsistent this season.Russell Wilson makes some boneheaded scrambles but he’ll also pull out a scramble highlight that’ll blow your frickin’ mind once in awhile. I mean: I hope that answers it!I originally meant that this was a question as to which Seahawks player probably plays the most video games (ie: it’s clear Kerryon Johnson has a gaming console).Sorry I couldn’t even give you a fake answer for that. No idea. I don’t play video games myself and don’t follow. 5. What’s a good cup of coffee to have this time of year?Well, to be clear, I haven’t lived near Seattle in almost a decade. I like one type of coffee any time of year: black. No frills, no muss. I am not picky about my coffee http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-ricky-jean-francois-jersey , but I am fully intent on having 3-4 cups a day. Find yourself some joe, I’m sure it’ll do the trick. As always thanks to our guest for putting up with our nonsense. Have a fun weekend. Week 6 has a chance to be drastically important for all the teams in the NFC North. While the Detroit Lions have the week off, the other three teams are in action this week, and the future of the division may depend on how each team performs. No teams has it particularly hard, as the Bears take on the Dolphins, the Vikings host the Cardinals, and the Packers face off against the 49ers on Monday night. But given how each team has played thus far, an upset is not out of the question. And with how tight the division has been through five weeks, one slip-up by a team could end up costing them the NFC North title. So with this week in mind—and the 11 weeks that lie ahead—let’s reset our expectations. Today’s Question of the Day is:How do you think the NFC North will play out in 2018?My answer: This is an extremely tough question, because I can see pretty much any team winning this division, but I can also make a good argument for any team finishing last. Each team is so very clearly flawed, but each has a strength good enough to carry them the entire way. The Packers have Aaron Rodgers, the Bears have arguably the best defense in the league, the Vikings have the strongest roster (if it ever gets healthy enough), and the Lions’ offensive line makes them the most balanced offense in the division. But, ultimately, I tend to fall back on the team’s biggest weaknesses to predict how things will fall. The most well-rounded team is the Vikings, and while their offensive line will continue to give them problems, but we’ve seen that offense keep its head above water with poor talent on the front five before. The Lions, on the other hand, have shown little progress on the defensive side of the ball, and it’s going to frustrate the team and its fans all year. So here are my predicted final standings:1. Vikings2. Bears3. Packers4. LionsYour turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage

Kenny Golladay is making quite an impression on his fellow receivers in Detroit. The second-year wideout had four catches for 98 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the Lions' 31-23 victory over Green Bay. He also had a touchdown called back because of a penalty.Golladay has given Detroit another strong receiving threat along with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones — and at this point http://www.lionscheapstore.com/tavon-wilson-jersey-cheap , it's hard to tell who the defense should be most concerned with."Having Kenny play the way he's been playing since he came on the team has been huge. He's opened it up for everybody," Tate said. "Now we have a bunch of guys who can make plays."The Lions drafted Golladay in the third round last year out of Northern Illinois, and he got off to quite a start, catching two touchdown passes in his first game .However, he missed five games with hamstring issues and finished the season with only 28 catches.Still, the potential was there, and this year the 6-foot-4 Golladay has nearly matched that reception total already. He has 27 catches for 428 yards. On the Lions, only Tate is ahead of him in those categories."He's killing it," Jones said. "He's doing a great job, and it's fun to see."Golladay has been productive this season, and he's also been consistent. He caught seven passes for 114 yards in the season opener against the Jets and was one of the very few bright spots for Detroit in that loss. He's had at least four receptions in all five games. The 5-foot-10 Tate is a dependable veteran who can excel after the catch. Both he and the 6-foot-2 Jones had more than 1,000 yards receiving last season. But it's hard not to notice Golladay's physical ability and wonder if Detroit's passing game could be even better as he becomes a bigger part of it."He's obviously a big kid, physical kid, can run, wants to be a really good player," quarterback Matthew Stafford said after the game against Green Bay."Smart, has dialogue with me. All of our guys do, really Cheap Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , which is great. What they're seeing out there, what they think we can do — so, I'm just happy for our team to get a win. Obviously happy for Kenny. He had a good one."Golladay's 46-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was nullified by an illegal use of hands penalty on a Detroit lineman. Later that period, Stafford and Golladay connected again for a 60-yard gain that set up a touchdown.Golladay caught a 5-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter that put the Lions up 31-14."Whenever my number is called, I'm just trying to make the play," Golladay said. "So if they want to throw it to me five times or four times a game or nine times a game, I just want to make all the plays."As he becomes more of an established target, Golladay may have to deal with more attention from opposing defenses. That's a sign of respect, of course, and Lions coach Matt Patricia likes what he sees so far."There's a lot of different coverages that are coming his way, there's a lot of different fronts, doubles, bracket-type situations that he's running into. ... The great part about it is just his competitiveness overall," Patricia said."Doing the details, doing the little things — the blocking. Maybe some of the plays where he may draw a little bit more attention and free somebody else up. Those are big responsibilities in the offense and kind of help everything fit together for all the guys on the field."NOTES: DE Ziggy Ansah, back with the Lions this season on the franchise tag, has missed the past four games with a shoulder injury. Patricia did not appreciate a question Monday about whether Ansah's contract status might be affecting his return to the field. "The guy's trying every single day to get back out there. So, that's what it is. Don't make it anything more than that http://www.lionscheapstore.com/sam-martin-jersey-cheap ," Patricia said.Friday open thread: Which Lions player is in for a big game vs. Patriots? We’re two weeks into the 2018 season, and the Detroit Lions are already in a desperate situation. They’re 0-2, the rest of the division has already notched a win each and are facing fortunate matchups in Week 3, while the Lions are forced to face the New England Patriots. With little hope on the horizon for this season, the Lions are looking for a hero. They need someone to step up their game on Sunday night not only to avoid embarrassment on national television for the second time in three weeks, but to give their fans some real hope in the Matt Patricia era, because right now fans are bumming. So today’s Question of the Day is:Which Lions player could be in for a big game on Sunday night? My answer; I think it’s time Marvin Jones Jr. returns to 2017 form. Jones had a career year last season, pulling in career highs in yards (1,101) thanks to six plays of 40+ yards. This year, he has just 108 yards in two games. Everyone is making a big deal out of Matthew Stafford’s performance last week, specifically his inability to connect with his receivers on deep plays. While that criticism is deserved, there’s little evidence his performance against the 49ers is emblematic of a larger, more long-term problem. Stafford and Jones will eventually get theirs, and the Patriots provide a someone favorable matchup to do so. Last week, Blake Bortles was able to rack up 376 yards passing and four touchdowns against this Patriots defense, and it looks like New England will be missing two key defenders in safety Patrick Chung and pass rusher Trey Flowers. No excuses. Now is the time. Let’s get it, Marvin.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage

2018 fantasy football: Join the official Pride of Detroit league The 2018 NFL regular season is less than two weeks away Detroit Lions T-Shirt , and that means it’s time to turn our attention to actual, real football games! Excuse me. One moment. Sorry, give me just a second.......Scratch that. I’ve been told now that the third preseason game has been played, we’re actually supposed to turn our attention to fantasy football, a made up thing that gives people the false sense of responsibility and achievement for lucking their way into a decent football roster. We here at Pride of Detroit have a tradition of holding a fantasy league every year, and while I never participate—because fantasy sports are the devils’ work—I have no problem feeding your addiction. I’m your pusher man. This year, Jerry Mallory will again serve as the commissioner for the league. There are a few notable changes to the league this year Detroit Lions Hats , however. We are moving from Yahoo to ESPN. It will be a 16-team league this yearThe time of the draft is Tuesday September 4 at 9 p.m. ET. So if you cannot participate in the draft or cannot set your auto-draft preferences by then, I would kindly ask you not to sign up for the draft. How to sign upThere are currently 13 open spaces in the league. If you are interested in joining, please say so in the comment section below. Priority will be given to users who have been around the longest and are most active in the community. Please make sure you have an ESPN account and your Pride of Detroit email is current. This will be the only way I can send you an invite, so please check that before signing up.You have until Friday, August 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET to submit your request to join the league. I will send out invitations on Saturday. I will also send out a couple waitlist emails in case someone drops out or fails to sign up for the league once invited. If you aren’t chosen to participate in this year’s league, we fully encourage you to set up other Pride of Detroit fantasy leagues in the FanPost section of the website. Happy fantasy drafting, you monsters.Friday open thread: Who will be the Lions’ standout performer vs. Buccaneers? At 8 p.m. ET Friday night Detroit Lions Hoodie , the Detroit Lions will have their final chance to inspire confidence heading into the 2018 regular season. Sure, there’s another preseason game next week, but the fourth contest typically only features players that won’t factor into many gameday decisions by Week 1.And for Lions fans, they’re going to need some sort of confidence heading into September. A win doesn’t really matter and won’t change people’s opinion of the team on its own, but some good individual performances from key players would go a long ways to brush away the concerns from the first two games. So today’s Question of the Day is:Who will be the Lions’ standout performer Friday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? My answer: Kerryon Johnson. In the Lions’ first preseason game, Johnson was one of the main headliners, along with fellow back Ameer Abdullah. After having a somewhat quiet game against the Giants last week Customized Detroit Lions Jerseys , I think we’re going to see Johnson get some time with the first-team offense, and I think he could really shine. It’ll be interesting to see if the Lions use Johnson at all in the preseason finale considering his importance to the team in 2018, but also taking into consideration how much he may need the experience before opening day against the Jets. If the team has already decided to keep Johnson away from harm against the Browns in Week 4 of the preseason, this will be the rookie running back’s final opportunity to get in game shape for the regular season. As a result, he may get a fair amount of playing time. I’ll just go ahead and say I think he hits 50 rushing yards this week.
Drew Brees will lead the New Orleans offense onto the field at Minnesota and commence the 13th postseason game of his stellar career Authentic Cameron Jordan Jersey , already armed with seven such victories and one Super Bowl ring for the Saints.

”I prepare for every game as if it’s that magnitude,” Brees said.

”When you’re in games of that magnitude, it’s as if you’ve been there and done it many times before, even if it was just in your mind.”

For Case Keenum, it’s truly all in his mind.

His first start in the NFL playoffs will come when the Vikings kick off their divisional round game on Sunday.

”I’m going to play like I know how to play. I don’t have to be anybody but myself. Not more conservative or less conservative. Either way, I’m going to be me,” said Keenum, whose successful takeover for the injured Sam Bradford helped lead the Vikings (13-3) to their best record in 19 years. ”That’s all I have to be. I’ve got a great squad in this room.”

Solely measuring quarterback experience and accomplishment, the Saints have a clear advantage over the Vikings in this divisional round game to help determine the matchup in the NFC championship game. Keenum, though, has been overcoming the odds all season, let alone his career .

”I always root for guys like that. Kind of the undersized guy that is coming out and nobody wants to give him any credit and always plays with a chip on his shoulder,” Brees said.

Though he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round in 2001 out of Purdue, with Keenum going undrafted out of Houston and needing the Texans practice squad to get his career going in 2012, Brees can relate. He’s shorter than the NFL standard for their position, too. Oh, and they’re both from Texas.

Brees added another highlight last week, with 376 passing yards to help the Saints (12-5) advance with a 31-26 victory over Carolina while the Vikings had a bye.

”Just a guy that I really admire in how he moves the ball down the field and how he operates, what kind of leader he is,” Keenum said.

”I read his book a long time ago. I think he’s someone to learn from. I try to watch all of the really good quarterbacks in the offseason and take little things to try to work on my game.”

Here are some other angles to follow with the game:

SLOWED UP: The Pro Bowl pair of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara had the least productive combined performance for the Saints against Carolina, with just 68 total yards from scrimmage. They each had more than 1,500 total yards in 2017.

The Panthers brought one safety closer to the line of the scrimmage to spy on the running back, and it worked.

”This league is a copy-cat league so I wouldn’t be surprised if Minnesota did it,” Kamara said Womens Cameron Jordan Jersey , expressing no concern about the strategy by pointing to Brees, whose passing yardage total against the Panthers was his second-highest of the season.

The Vikings, led by the speed of linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks, have held several pass-catching running backs to minimal production this season.

LINE ITEM: The Saints will be without starting left guard Andrus Peat, a versatile former first-round draft choice who also filled in for Terron Armstead at left tackle this season when he was injured. Peat broke his fibula against the Panthers.

Senio Kelemete, who has filled in at both guard spots and right tackle this season, is slated to start for Peat. Armstead, meanwhile, said he’s never been close to 100 percent healthy this season.

”But it doesn’t matter,” Armstead said. ”I’m willing and able to put my body on the line for an opportunity to play again next week.”

ZONED OUT: New Orleans defensive coordinator Dennis Allen called for a relatively zone-heavy scheme in the opener, and rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore recalled feeling ”confused about everything” in his NFL debut other than the man-to-man coverage the Saints have been more inclined to let Lattimore play on top opposing receivers. He had five interceptions and was picked for the Pro Bowl.

”That was something that we felt like in that game was going to give us a chance to win the game, and obviously we didn’t play as well as we needed to,” Allen said of Minnesota’s 29-19 victory fueled by a career-best 143.0 passer rating for Bradford . ”Obviously, we’ve looked at that game and how we’ve changed and how we’ve evolved as a defense.”

SUPER BOWL ENVY: New Orleans’ bid for the Super Bowl this season and was considered a favorite given the city is celebrating its 300th anniversary and has long been a popular host for the NFL’s marquee event. But Minnesota’s bid, combining its new stadium and winter carnival approach to related festivities, won out.

Now the Vikings have an opportunity to become the first team to play a Super Bowl on home turf, a feat the Saints would be happy to deny.

”If we want to add a little underlying story to us trying to win this game, it would be nice to be able to do that,” Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said.

”We’ve always talked about, `We want to start the season at Minnesota. We want to end the season in Minnesota,’ and for us that means playing in the Super Bowl.”

SITE MAP: The Saints are 1-6 in their history in the playoffs on the road, including 1-4 under coach Sean Payton. Their first and only such win came after the 2013 season, when they edged the Eagles in a wild-card round game in Philadelphia before losing the following week At heart, Ernie Barnes the professional football player was always Ernie Barnes the artist.

His teammates on the San Diego Chargers nicknamed him ”Big Rembrandt” because he was always scribbling on pieces of paper.

He ended up painting vivid and highly acclaimed images from the playing field and from African-American life. He’s most famous for ”Sugar Shack Authentic Odell Beckham Jr Jersey ,” which shows African-Americans dancing at the Durham Armory. Marvin Gaye used a version of it for an album cover, and a print of it appeared in the closing credits of the sitcom ”Good Times.”

Now, an exhibit has opened in his home state titled “The North Carolina Roots of Artist Ernie Barnes.” The exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of History includes 38 paintings by Barnes, many unseen by the public until now, along with several pieces of memorabilia.

It’s the first exhibit of Barnes’ artwork in 11 years, and the first since he died at age 70 in 2009 in Los Angeles. It continues through March 3.

Barnes never considered football his true calling. From his childhood, he was drawn to art. In his 1995 autobiography, ”From Pads to Palette,” he wrote, ”Throughout my five seasons in the arena of professional football, I remained at the deepest level of my being an artist.”

But he played professionally from 1960 to 1964, signing first with the Baltimore Colts and then with the Titans of New York, the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. His sports connections led to his first exhibit through the support of New York Jets owner Sonny Werblin. And Barnes credited football with helping him develop the elongation technique for which he’s known.

An art instructor told him ”to pay attention to what my body felt like in movement,” Barnes once said. ”And when I did that, it was an elongated feeling. … I hate to think, had I not played sports, what my work would look like.”

He also spoke of how the ”dehumanization” of professional football played out in his art. ”I painted until I exhausted the hate,” he said, according to comments provided by his estate.

Troy Vincent, the NFL’s vice president of operations, is probably the largest collector of Barnes’ art and someone in whom Barnes confided about his love-hate relationship with football. Vincent estimates that he owns just shy of 30 Barnes’ paintings, most of them commissioned and never seen by the public.

In a phone interview, Vincent said that he and his wife ”didn’t classify it as black art. He happens to be African-American, but it’s not black art. It’s art.”

At the time of Barnes’ death Womens Odell Beckham Jr Jersey , Paul Von Blum, an art history and African American studies professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, called him one of the premier figurative artists of his era.

Barnes, who was born in 1938 in Durham during the Jim Crow era, graduated from what’s now North Carolina Central University. His painting, ”Homecoming,” shows a marching band in Durham with U.S. 15-501 signs in the background.

”Ernie said when he was growing up, the high school band used to come down from the segregated area and make the turn into the black community, and the band would kick it up right there,” Luz Rodriguez, his longtime assistant and estate trustee said last week in Raleigh before the exhibit opened. ”So that’s what he painted.”

”Sugar Shack” came from Barnes’ memories growing up in Durham, Rodriguez said. His mother had told the 13-year-old Barnes that ”they don’t do Christian things there” so of course he had to sneak in to find out what was happening, she said.

Actor and comedian Eddie Murphy owns the painting now, exhibit curator Katie Edwards said. A second version that Barnes painted is part of the North Carolina museum exhibit.

Barnes could bring to life ”the hopes and dreams of what could be – families together, strong men, strong women, the true representation of the godly family,” Vincent said. Barnes was able to ”share our dark past yet articulate in color what the future could be – the proudness of our history, the proudness of our future. Ernie encapsulated all of that.”

—

WASHINGTON — Bryce Harper made some strides at the plate Thursday night just as the Washington Nationals prepare to welcome the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies to town for a weekend series.

Moved back to the leadoff spot by manager Dave Martinez Brent Urban Jersey , Harper walked twice and had a sacrifice fly and a double in four plate appearances during a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Harper doubled in the eighth inning of a tie game and came in on Juan Soto’s two-run double and the Nationals took two of three from the Orioles.

“I was able to see a lot of pitches tonight,” Harper told the Washington Times after the Nationals (40-33) improved to 9-1 with him in the leadoff spot.

Harper began the night hitting .133 (8-for-60) in June, with five walks and 23 strikeouts.

“My swing has felt great,” Harper told mlb.com. “I’ve felt great the past month and a half or so, just chasing pitches. Tonight, I tried to do the best I could to get a ball over the middle (of the plate), and I was able to do that.”

The 19-year-old Soto just continues to hit. Thursday night he went 1-for-3 with a walk in the cleanup spot and enters the weekend hitting .326 with six homers and 16 RBIs over 92 major-league at-bats.

“I think we’re all amazed every single day,” Washington starter Max Scherzer told mlb.com. “He’s a great young player. He’s just enjoying himself. He’s the bat we kind of need in our lineup right now, that’s hot. And teams are going to have to figure out how to get him out, because it’s tough right now.”

Friday night that task falls to Philadelphia right-hander Zach Eflin (4-2, 3.43 ERA). He has won three straight starts, allowing four runs over 18 2/3 innings while striking out 17 batters and walking just three after pitching five effective innings Saturday in Milwaukee.

Elfin will be making his first career start against Washington, which counters with right-hander Tanner Roark (3-7, 3.87).

Roark gave up four runs on eight hits over four innings of in an 8-6 loss at Toronto on Sunday.

On May 5 he lost to the Phillies in Washington when he allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings. For his career, he is 6-7 with a 3.98 ERA in 18 games (16 starts) versus the Phillies.

The Phillies (39-33) trail the second-place Nationals by one-half game in the NL East and trail the Braves by 3 1/3 games. Philadelphia has won seven of its last 10 games and has taken three straight series — against Colorado, at Milwaukee and against St. Louis — as it begins a 10-game stretch against the Nationals and Yankees.

“I think coming off this series C.J. Mosley Jersey , we anticipate a highly-competitive series against a good ballclub on the road, and it seems like we’re ready for that challenge,” Philadelphia right-hander Jake Arrieta told mlb.com.

Off on Thursday, the Phillies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Wednesday.

Odubel Herrera hit what proved to be the game-winning home run in the seventh inning to go along with a single and a double.

“It was one of those ‘Wow’ moments,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler told the Courier Post. “He’s so hot, but he’s such an incredible athlete. It’s really elite barrel accuracy. I don’t know how to describe it. He just knows how to find the barrel, find the sweet spot.”

Herrera is hitting .419 (13-for-31) with two doubles, five home runs, eight RBIs in the past seven games. He is 13-for-31 (.419) versus Roark.

Andrew Heaney was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers for a few hours early in his major league career.

Heaney is still hoping to convince their front office they should have given him a longer look five years ago. He’ll get another opportunity Sunday evening when he takes the mound for the Los Angeles Angels in the series finale against the Dodgers at Angel Stadium.

The Dodgers (48-40) gave up two runs in the ninth inning and lost the series opener 3-2 on Friday night, then held on for a 3-1 win against the Angels (45-45) on Saturday.

Heaney was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Dodgers at the winter meetings Dec. 12, 2014, but a few hours later the Dodgers dealt him to the Angels for popular second baseman Howie Kendrick.

Heaney had two chances to beat the Dodgers during the 2015 season, but lost both games. He gave up two runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 3-1 loss at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 1 of that season. Five weeks later at Angel Stadium, he gave up five runs and six hits in five innings of a 6-4 loss.

Heaney had Tommy John surgery in June 2016 and made only six starts over the next two seasons.

Heaney (4-6, 3.94) had a solid month of May this season, posting a 2-3 record and 2.41 ERA in six starts. He had a winning mark of 2-1 in June Womens Todd Gurley Jersey , but his ERA dipped to 4.45 for the month. In his only start in July, he gave up three runs and five hits in seven innings at the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, taking the loss in the 4-1 defeat.

“It’s sort of been the same old story for a little while, just sort of the big innings where I let it kind of build,” Heaney told reporters after his latest outing. “It’s something where I need to come out and establish earlier, kind of get ahead, and all the other same stuff we always talk about.”

Heaney will be opposed by Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood, who will be aiming to win his fifth straight start. Wood also won all five appearances in May of last season on his way to an 11-0 start.

Wood (5-5, 3.84) probably didn’t expect to have a chance to go over .500 by early July after dropping to 0-4 on May 15.

“Winning is just nice,” Wood told Sportsnet after his latest start, a 17-1 win against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. “Four in a row is nice, especially where I was after that three-start stretch. So I feel good, just trying to keep moving forward and looking towards the future. Hopefully, we’ll keep swinging the bats well and play well going into the All-Star break.”

The Angels are the only American League West team Wood has not faced in his major league career.

He struggled in his only interleague start this season, giving up seven runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings in a 16-6 loss to the visiting Oakland A’s on April 11.

With the usual cadre of teams aggressively arranging interviews for head coach vacancies in this first week after the regular season’s conclusion Robert Griffin III Jersey , Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has become a person of high interest.

The vast improvement by the Vikings during Shurmur’s first full year in charge of the offense has made it easy to see why.

”He has absolutely zero ego,” tight end Kyle Rudolph said. ”He comes in here as a tight end coach when we already have a system in place. He gets moved up to offensive coordinator halfway through the year and could have very easily run his system that he’s run his whole life. He adapted his offense to fit us.”

Head coach Mike Zimmer said he’ll grant permission to teams seeking to take advantage of the first-round bye the Vikings have for the playoffs and speak with Shurmur in Minnesota this week. The NFL permits such an interview window to keep candidates whose clubs advance deep into the postseason from being passed over. The Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and New York Giants have reached out, according to multiple reports, among the six teams with openings.

”I think he’s done a great job, and I think he deserves another opportunity,” Zimmer said.

That’s another strength that Shurmur will present, having spent two years as coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2011-12. He went 9-23, which is better than his three successors have done with the league’s most woebegone franchise.

”He’s a good guy to work with. He’s smart. He’s respectful,” Zimmer said. ”And he’s tough on the players when he needs to be.”

After finishing last in the NFL in rushing yards in 2016, the Vikings ranked seventh in 2017. They rose from 18th to 11th in passing yards. They jumped from 28th to ninth in touchdowns on possessions inside the 20-yard line. They went from 19th to third in third-down conversion rate. They climbed from 23rd to 10th in scoring.

These gains in moving the ball and getting it across the goal line came despite the loss of both the starting quarterback and running back during the first quarter of the season. Injuries forced seven different starting combinations across the five offensive line spots, too Mark Andrews Jersey , with the original lineup getting only six starts together.

”Most places looking for head coaches probably are ones looking for somebody to work with the quarterback and be able to develop a quarterback,” Zimmer said. ”He’s had the opportunity to work with a few here. So I think that’s part of what’s probably making him be an attractive candidate.”

Yes, quarterback Case Keenum is the right place to start for other teams examining Shurmur’s updated resume.

Sam Bradford was Shurmur’s guy, a relationship built through previous stints together with two other teams. After the resignation of Norv Turner halfway through the 2016 schedule that triggered Shurmur’s promotion, Bradford had his offensive coordinator in place again. He thrived in the opening win over New Orleans this year, only to be sidelined by knee trouble. Rookie running back Dalvin Cook went down with a season-ending knee injury three games later.

But Keenum has kept thriving, with Shurmur finding an effective run-pass balance in his playbook while blending several types of offenses he’s been a part of in the past. Keenum posted a passer rating above 100 in eight of 15 games, after doing so just five times in 26 career games prior to joining the Vikings.

”I still think we have some room to grow,” Keenum said. ”Pat does a great job calling the games. The more time we spend in meeting rooms watching film, talking through defenses, we’re getting more and more on the same page and seeing things through the same set of eyes.”

Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs have been able to line up in any of the wide receiver spots and run a variety of routes, and Shurmur has seized on their versatility.

”He knows that to be a really good offense, we need to spread the ball around and keep getting guys involved Eric Weddle Jersey ,” said Thielen, who finished fifth in the NFL with 1,276 receiving yards. ”He just lets us do what we do well and do it a lot.”

—

NEW YORK — Last season, New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino credited things such as getting tips from Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez as a reason why everything came together after a difficult experience in 2016.

This year, Seattle Mariners left-hander James Paxton is joining Severino among the elite pitchers in the American League, and he credits improved conditioning to go along with an aggressive mindset in attacking hitters.

Paxton and Severino will oppose each other Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium when the Mariners and Yankees conclude their three-game series.

The Yankees are in position to get the sweep after rallying from five runs down and recording a 7-5 win on Wednesday on Giancarlo Stanton’s two-run homer in the ninth inning off Ryan Cook. The Yankees are 16-4 in their last 20 games and are going for their first home sweep of Seattle since May 23-25, 2008.

Seattle is on its second three-game losing streak after blowing its first five-run lead this season. Despite their worst collapse of the season, the Mariners are 13-6 in their last 19 games and 32-17 in their last 49 games.

Paxton heads into his first career start against the Yankees with a 6-1 record and a 3.44 ERA. After going 18-15 in his first 50 starts since making his debut in 2013, Paxton is 18-7 in his last 39, a stretch that includes a 99-pitch no-hitter last month in Toronto and six of his eight career double-digit strikeout games.

Last season, Paxton was 12-5 with a 2.98 ERA but only made 24 starts due to two stints on the disabled list with a strained left forearm and a strained left pectoral muscle. After five DL stints within the first five years of his career, Paxton refined his conditioning with a program to keep everything working. He described the program in detail while referring to the muscle activation technique.

“You need everything to be firing together at the right time and have all your muscles working together in order for them to be optimal strength and stamina,” Paxton said. “So Jonathan Ogden Jersey , that’s what I did this offseason and I continue to work with those guys during the season to allow myself to stay healthy.”

Paxton enters his 90th career start with 115 strikeouts this year, 39 away from his total last season and sixth in the American League.

Paxton said the strikeouts are coming more often because of aggressiveness — resulting in numbers such as a .216 opposing batting average with runners on base, a .194 average with runners in scoring position and a .178 mark when getting ahead of a hitter 0-1.

“I think I’ve gotten more aggressive in the zone and stuff,” he said. I’m not picking around the corners as much. I tried to be a little too perfect I think in the past, got myself in bad counts, allowing guys to cheat on fastballs. I think when I get ahead of guys, it gives me more options, makes them think about more pitches I can throw and gets them off my stuff a little bit.”

Since the no-hitter on May 8 in Toronto, Paxton is 4-0 with a 3.48 ERA in his last seven starts, a number inflated due to his last start.

Paxton is coming off his shortest start of the season when he allowed five earned runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings Friday against the Boston Red Sox in an eventual 7-6 win.

“He’s matured a ton,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said. “He knows how important he is for our team and how important it is for him to stay healthy.

“He’s changed a lot of his offseason workouts, his work in between starts, understanding to be able to take the ball every fifth day means so much to our team. He’s really put a priority on that Brandon Williams Jersey , probably more so than actual pitch sequencing or pitch development.”

As for Severino, he can join Cleveland’s Corey Kluber as the second 11-game winner in the majors with a victory Thursday.

He is 10-2 with a 2.09 ERA after allowing three hits in eight scoreless innings in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the fourth time he pitched into the eighth inning and fourth scoreless start.

“Obviously anytime he goes, I feel great about it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s a great pitcher. He’s clearly establishing himself as one of the best in the game.”

Severino was 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA last season after Martinez suggested some mechanical tweaks and encouraged him to include his changeup more frequently. Martinez’s advice took place after Severino finished 3-8 with a 5.83 ERA in 22 appearances in a 2016 campaign that featured a triceps injury and a demotion to the minors.

It has resulted in Severino being able to maintain velocity throughout games, such as Saturday when 23 of his 102 pitches were clocked at 99 mph or higher.

“I’ve played with him all the way through the minor leagues,” Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge said. “This is what I expect out of Sevy. Go out there and just dominate.”

The right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two career starts against Seattle. He pitched seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 win at Seattle on July 20, 2017, and allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-1 home loss on April 15, 2016.

New York left fielder Brett Gardner missed his third straight game Wednesday with a swollen right knee and is day-to-day. If Gardner does not play, Aaron Hicks will likely bat leadoff.

Lorenzo Cain and Travis Shaw helped Milwaukee’s offense break through against the Chicago Cubs Michael Crabtree Jersey , and Chase Anderson did the rest.

Anderson pitched seven innings of one-hit ball to capitalize on a heads-up rundown escape by Cain and a pair of two-run doubles by Shaw, and the Brewers two-hit the Cubs 4-0 on Tuesday night to take back first place in the NL Central.

Shaw had already put Chicago up 2-0 when Cain used his head and legs to escape a sticky spot in the third inning. With Christian Yelich at second, Cain hit a ball up the middle that was fielded by second baseman Javier Baez. Yelich got hung up between second and third but stayed alive through three throws before sprinting back to second base.

Cain, meanwhile, rounded first hard and fooled the Cubs into thinking he was committing to second. If both Yelich and Cain had touched second base, Cain could have been tagged out, and so pitcher Tyler Chatwood chased Yelich back to second, thinking Cain was about to end up there.

But Cain stopped a few feet short of second and ran back to first, where no Chicago players were around to field a throw from Chatwood. Yelich returned safely to second, and both players scored moments later on Shaw’s double to right.

Cain said he practiced the play when he was with the Kansas City Royals.

”I actually want to credit that play to Rusty Kuntz,” Cain said of the former first-base coach for the Royals. ”It never actually happened, but for it to happen tonight was huge. It was a nice play.”

Cain said Yelich had to keep hustling or the play would not have worked. Cain said he peeked back and saw that Anthony Rizzo was not covering first base.

”That baserunning play by Cain was flat-out brilliant,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. ”I’ve never seen anything like that. I had no idea what he was planning on doing but it was amazing. That’s seeing the field and understanding what’s happening.”

The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Shaw’s shot that evaded diving first baseman Rizzo and rolled into the right-field corner. Milwaukee ended a seven-game skid to Chicago.

Anderson (5-5) threw a Brewers’ season-high 107 pitches. Chicago’s only hit against him was an infield chopper by Willson Contreras in the second. Anderson retired his final 17 hitters.

”We just could not mount an attack John Brown Jersey ,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. ”Anderson has been difficult against us in the past and he was again tonight. There was not a whole lot going on. Two doubles beat us.”

Anderson had lost his three previous decisions against the Cubs as the Brewers had been shut out in each game. Taylor Williams and Jacob Barnes finished up for Milwaukee with an inning each.

”My command was kind of spotty,” Anderson said. ”I had a good fastball early. As I kept going the curveball came into play and the cutter a little bit. The changeup was good. I was able to throw all my pitches for strikes.”

Cubs right-hander Tyler Chatwood (3-5), who entered the game leading the major leagues in walks, showed better control while allowing four runs (three earned) and walking two batters in five innings.

”My last outing wasn’t pretty, but I felt like I worked on some stuff and took it into this outing,” Chatwood said.

TRAINERS ROOM

Cubs: RHP Yu Darvish threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, and Maddon was encouraged by what he saw. ”Outstanding. He threw really well,” Maddon said. ”Easy gas. Great location. Good spin on his breaking ball. Very impressed.” Darvish was put on the disabled list May 23 with right triceps tendinitis. Maddon said if there’s a chance for Darvish to return before the All-Star break, ”I’m into it. Whatever the doctors think.”

Brewers: RHP Matt Albers was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury and RHP Jorge Lopez was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Albers allowed five runs and three hits in the 11th inning Monday night and took the loss in Milwaukee’s 7-2 defeat. ”He got to the point it was affecting him out there on the field and it’s just time to take a break,” Counsell said.

UP NEXT

Cubs: LHP Mike Montgomery (2-1, 3.56 ERA) will make his fourth start since replacing Darvish in the rotation. Montgomery is 2-0 with a 1.02 ERA in his three starts, including a victory over Pittsburgh last week.

Brewers: RHP Jhoulys Chacin has emerged as the team’s ace this season (5-1, 3.58 ERA). The Brewers are 11-3 In his starts and opponents are batting .231 against him.

—

The Tampa Bay Rays finished the second-best homestand in their history Brandon Carr Jersey , with a much easier path between now and the All-Star Game as they try to claw their way back into wild-card contention.

Tampa Bay (41-40) went 8-1 at Tropicana Field, finishing a grueling stretch of 16 games against the New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Washington Nationals and going 10-6 in those games to rise back above .500.

Now the Rays have a stretch of 16 straight games against teams with losing records, including a three-game series at the Miami Marlins (34-51) starting Monday.

The Rays have dominated with their patchwork pitching staff, allowing a total of seven runs in their last six games, with five wins and a 1-0 loss. They took three of four from Houston to close out the homestand and hope to continue the success to take some positive momentum into the All-Star break.

“The fact that we have been winning and everyone has been coming together at clutch moments has been great,” said outfielder Mallex Smith, who had a late solo home run in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Houston. “We’ve been jelling as a team. We’ve been feeding off one another. It seems like someone new coming through at the right time every day.”

Next for Tampa Bay is Nathan Eovaldi (2-3, 4.08 ERA), who played for the Marlins from 2012 to 2014 and will almost certainly fare better than his only career appearance against his former team. In June 2015, he played there with the Yankees and gave up nine hits and eight earned runs in less than an inning, leaving after two outs with a 108.00 ERA to show for it.

Eovaldi has shown promise since returning from Tommy John surgery — his last start against Washington lasted six innings and he gave up no runs, one and and two walks with nine strikeouts.

The Marlins will answer with Wei-Yin Chen Tavon Young Jersey , who knows the Rays from his days with the Baltimore Orioles. He has started 21 career games against Tampa Bay, more than any other opponent, and posted a 5-6 record with a 3.72 ERA.

That’s considerably better than his overall numbers this year — he’s 2-5 with a 6.14 ERA, though his last start was solid. He limited Arizona to one run and five hits in six innings last week. Against Tampa Bay last year, he pitched well, holding the Rays to two runs and two hits in six innings.

The in-state rivals will meet again right after the All-Star break for three more games, but the extended run against lesser opponents is something the Rays must dominate if they want to get back into wild-card contention.

Even after winning eight of nine games, Tampa Bay is still 11 games behind Seattle for the second AL wild card. Still, being 42-41 after opening the season 1-8 isn’t bad, especially considering the injuries they’ve dealt with and the talent traded away since the end of last season.

The Watch Grid motto: every college football weekend is a good college football weekend. Time to put that to the test! Week 11 boasts shockingly few real stakes Womens Mohamed Sanu Jersey , at least until the upsets start happening. The upsets gods must find a way to see us through. Below, the Watch Grid attempts to sort your weekend by watchability. As always, watchability is not determined by the quality of your favorite football team, because such glory cannot be contained within a spreadsheet of any size. Your streaming links are here. [Weeknight games removed, for your Saturday convenience.] Saturday, Nov. 10 college football schedule I’ve been doing the Watch Grid for a long time now, and I can’t remember ever straining this hard to find a WATCH THIS game. This is blatantly generous to Texas-Texas Tech, but we’ve got to have at least ONE game in that column, right? Arguments could be made for Ohio State-Michigan State (maybe a blowout, but definitely ugly), Bedlam (probably a blowout), Auburn-Georgia (potentially a blowout, but probably very stupid), or Clemson-Boston College (maybe not a bad choice) as WATCH THIS games, but would you really expect your casual-fan neighbor to come over just for any of those games? All that said: every college football weekend is a good college football weekend. Dumb and beautiful things will happen no matter what’s on the schedule, and there’s always a chance we stumble into another BLOOD WEEK.Atlanta Falcons quarter season pace on offense Through four games, the Falcons are on pace to smash their offensive numbers from a year ago. This is still good news, even though the season’s already on shaky ground, and I thought you might all want to see it broken out. I’ve got the team stats from last year next to this year, so you can see just how hilariously far ahead the offense is compared to a year ago.
