It might be unsafe to think about what a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Philip Rivers will do to the depleted and lifeless Raider defense. RB Melvin GordonIn the first meeting against Oakland, Melvin Gordon tallied one touchdown and 120 yards from scrimmage. Amazingly, that should be considered a monumental win for the Raiders defense as Gordon has gashed teams for 124 yards from scrimmage per game and 10 touchdowns in seven games. So in the first meeting, Gordon put him numbers similar to his average. When players go against the Oakland defense, they usually perform A LOT better than their average. Expect that to be the case this Sunday for Gordon. WR Keenan AllenKeenan Allen this season is averaging close to six receptions for 80 yards per game but has just one touchdown all year. After racking up 152 yards from scrimmage against a much better Seattle defense last week Authentic Donald Penn Jersey , Allen is trending in the right direction. He will be able to put up big yards as he has done that all year. And this would be the game for Allen to find the end zone since he is playing the same defense that had people drawing connections between Mullens and Joe Montana. Proceed with CautionQB Derek CarrDerek Carr is never a smart man to bet against. And there is no doubt he will want to prove the doubters wrong after last week’s performance in Santa Clara. But Carr just hasn’t had enough time to throw the football this season due to the many injuries up front and the inexperience at the tackle positions. And Los Angeles, led by Melvin Ingram, has gotten to the quarterback 22 times in the first eight games. If you ever lose sight of Carr during the game, just check the ground. That is where he will probably be after many passing plays. The one saving grace for Carr, garbage time can be a great weapon for fantasy quarterbacks. RB Jalen RichardBased on what I said about Carr, I am not confident in the offense’s ability to consistently move the ball this game. However, that could be a benefit for Jalen Richard. If the team is down big early, Richard will see many snaps and could see a lot of dump offs in the second half if the defense is giving a lot of cushion. BenchTE Jared CookJared Cook hasn’t performed well lately. He has had 20 yards receiving or less in three of the last four games. One of those games was against the Chargers in which he had just 20 yards. And again, if Carr isn’t going to be upright, it is tough to imagine Cook getting a ton of targets. RB Doug MartinIn the first meeting, Oakland ran the ball 12 times for 36 yards. The team is less motivated now than it was earlier in the season and is having more issues protecting the quarterback and throwing the football. If the Raiders are one-dimensional (more like zero-dimensional) and struggling to pick up first downs, Doug Martin is not going to get enough carries to provide a solid fantasy day. Their first practice of the week starts at 1:15pm today as they prepare for their third preseason game this Friday against the Packers. And Gruden expects three key players who were not available for the game Saturday to be back today.“I think Seth [Roberts] will be back too. He’ll practice today. And that’s great for us Youth Marcus Gilchrist Jersey , we need to get him out on the field, back in with our receivers,” said Gruden. “[Marcus] Gilchrist will practice today, that’s a positive. . . I think [Daryl] Worley will be back practicing today as well.”Roberts didn’t playin the first preseason game either. He is in a battle for his roster spot at receiver, so he needs to get on the field so the team needs to see how he competes with the other players looking to take a roster spot from him.As for Gilchrist and Worley, Gruden has spoken highly of both of them throughout the offseason. But it’s on defense that the Raiders have drastically improved. Khalil Mack is gone. Added are rookies PJ Hall, Maurice Hurst and Arden Key and free agent Tank Carradine. Together, those guys will hopefully be able to match or exceed Mack’s sack totals. The secondary is vastly improved with a healthy Gareon Conley, Rashaan Melvin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Marcus Gilchrist. The Raiders’ schedule this year isn’t as difficult as in recent seasons, and new coaches Jon Gruden and Paul Guenther are vastly more competent at coaching than their predecessors. Gruden’s competence in the general manager role isn’t off to a promising start, but the Raiders should be able to get it done and contend for the playoffs.Tyler GreenRecord: 9-7There is no doubt that the Raiders are worse off without Khalil Mack, as he is arguably the best defender in the NFL. That being said, this is still a team that has some talent (Bruce Irvin, Derek Carr, Amari Cooper Youth Rashaan Melvin Jersey , Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson) and should be much improved from a coaching standpoint. If the three rookie defensive linemen play well, the Raiders could end up with a winning season with what should be one of the easiest schedules the team has seen in years. After the trade of Khalil Mack, release of Martavis Bryant, and listening to Jon Gruden talk about how this roster has “many holes” to fill I no longer feel as confident. If Jon Gruden doesn’t believe this team is ready to win right now, then why should I?The Raiders will be earning plenty of frequent flyer miles this season, topping the NFL with 31,716 miles traveled. The Raiders also have the NFL’s oldest roster, which includes (at the moment) 29 new faces on the 53-man roster.Even with the loss of Khalil Mack, the Raiders will go as far as the right arm of Derek Carr will take them. I believe the Raiders might be a year or two away before being ready to be a major player in the AFC playoff picture.BD WilliamsRecord: 8-8They say you lose a game for every rookie starter. The Raiders have 5 or 6 players destined for big roles who have never played an NFL season before. But then how many games do you lose after trading Khalil Mack?Gruden has vastly improved the coaching staff and for that reason the Raiders have a shot at a winning record. But the amount of new faces also means this team will take time to mesh. The margin for victory in the NFL is so narrow, Gruden only made it harder on himself after dealing Mack. Playoffs is too high of an expectation, especially when all AFC West teams are a threat. That being said, fans should notice that the Raiders are fighting harder and in more games during the 4th quarter than last season. Ryan LiptonRecord: 9-7Going through the schedule I came up with nine wins for the Oakland Raiders. However, that seems a little high to me. Not sure if that is because of the atrocity that was trading Khalil Mack this past week, but I still see Oakland improving in 2018. The defense should be improved from last year, even without Mack, just because of the coaching that Paul Guenther brings. On offense, it is the same idea. There is no Downing, but instead Jon Gruden. As such, I think Carr is going to have a very good year. This team should be dominant on offense Womens Frostee Rucker Jersey , like what we saw in 2016, it just depends if the defense can keep up and force turnovers to help win close games. But I think this team hovers around 8/9 wins. A few lucky bounces and maybe they get to double digits. But a few unlucky bounces and it could be a six or seven win season. Marcus Allen KrauseRecord: 9-7Though I don’t see the Raiders quite making the playoffs this year, I do still believe that they will be a competitive team. They absolutely need to handle business at home where they have one of the more favorable home schedules in the league. They also have games against San Francisco and the LA Chargers that could easily have an equal number or better of Raiders fans in attendance despite being away games. With what should be an impressive offense under Jon Gruden with QB Derek Carr, they have a chance to win a fair amount of games this year as long as Gruden and Carr’s chemistry is as good as advertised.I worry about a slow start in the aftermath of the big trade but I still feel confident that the Raiders will have an above .500 record at 9-7.Phliip RobinsonRecord: 10-6This offense has been closely guarded under Jon Gruden’s lock and key. What will it look like, will they be stout at both tackle positions? The offense will have to win most games, clearly by trading Khalil Mack, Gruden signified he expects to score a lot of points. Why else would he forsake the defense? DC Paul Guenther and Defensive Backs coach Darryl Ansley should vastly improve a secondary which went nearly 11 weeks without an interception. The AFC West is wide open, 10-6 should challenge for the playoffs, if it doesn’t win the division outright.Levi DamienRecord: 6-10I could break this down more, but for the sake of brevity let’s do this like an equation. I had the Raiders at 9-7 this offseason. Mainly because I expected them to be better than before based on the coaching changes, but I wasn’t going to aim too high because Derek Carr had by far his best season the only time he had the same coordinator two seasons in a row. He has another new coordinator (Gruden, not Greg Olson) so I expect it will take a season for him to really get clicking. Since then a few things have happened. The tackle situation got real scary, Martavis Bryant — who was supposed to upgrade the receiving corps — is gone, and, of course Khalil Mack was traded. The tackles are going to lose this team a game (hopefully not getting Derek Carr injured in the process), Bryant would have been the hero on at least one big game-winning TD pass, and Mack’s ability to be the closer is worth two games. They’ll point to Quinn’s always questionable clock and in-game management, the lack of discipline this team seems to fall into for long stretches, and the defensive ineptitude, though much of that is genuinely due to injury.Of course, while there are legitimate arguments to be had about the weakness of Quinn and this coaching staff more broadly, any discussion of the coach losing his job is There are multiple reasons for this. The first is that this season has the look of an outlier for Quinn, given that this team made the Super Bowl after 2016 and the playoffs in 2017 Youth Brian Poole Jersey , and injuries have largely crippled the defense. The second is that the owner is Arthur Blank, and Blank made only one in-season coaching change back in 2003, when he canned longtime coach Dan Reeves because he was A) clashing with Michael Vick and B) had one playoff appearance in his previous four seasons. Our colleagues over at Bleeding Green Nation report that Philadelphia WR Mack Hollins won’t suit up Thursday against Atlanta Youth Calvin Ridley Jersey , leaving them to Nelson Agholor and Mike Wallace as their main targets at receiver. It’s also said DE Michael Bennett did not practice Tuesday with a knee ailment, hinting he could be held out, too, and at the most won’t be one-hundred percent. The team later said the absence wasn’t related to an injury, however, so his status is very much up in the air. The Eagles already won’t be fielding starting QB Carson Wentz, WR Alshon Jeffery, LB Nigel Bradham and DT Tim Jernigan. With Hollins and maybe Bennett out, Philly’s coming out of the gate a bit hampered by the injury bug. The Gators took Sanders’ brother Ulmstead as a walk-on linebacker. Summerall is being recruited for the 3-4 defense, which helps the Gators stand out against Miami and FSU, who run the 4-3. And Florida is trying to flip FSU commitment Quashon Fuller Matt Ryan Jersey Limited , who has been very open about checking out all of his options, though he did not show up to UF’s “Friday Night Lights” camp. The team will host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday, though two key figures to the Panthers’ offense could be on the sideline. TE Greg Olsen exited Carolina’s Sunday win over the Dallas Cowboys with a foot injury and did not return. He was questionable pre-game with a back injury as well.Postgame, Ron Rivera said it was not the same foot injury that limited Olsen last season but that it was the same foot. Olsen turned 33 in March but is still one of Cam Newton’s top targets on that offense. Even if the injury is not serious, the team could opt to give Olsen a week off with so many bangs and bruises this early. This would clear the way for rookie TE Ian Thomas to start, who had been drawing some praise from training camp.
