Well, after one week in the NFL season, and a bad performance from the Cardinals http://www.cardinalsfootballauthentics.com/phil-dawson-jersey-authentic , coupled with a complete demolition in the second half of the Raiders by the Rams and now the Cardinals sit at 12.5 point underdogs on most sites, and as high as 14-point dogs on some sites. That’s what happens in the NFL.Lines are set pretty conservatively in week one and then when Vegas feels like they get to know teams a little bit, they are a little more aggressive with their lines in the oncoming weeks.Well many feel, myself included, like we did not learn much about the Cardinals in week one, the sharps (betting experts) feel like we have more than enough information to know that a 10-point opening line is an easy bet to win. That’s why money is going so heavily early on the Rams to not only win http://www.cardinalsfootballauthentics.com/jamar-taylor-jersey-authentic , but cover a two score spread. Now, we are seeing sites like 5 Dimes and Sport Bet have the spread as high as 14-points.The money is on the Rams early, and I am not entirely sure I disagree.

For the first time in five years, the Arizona Cardinals have a problem.Since 2013, the Arizona Cardinals have finished in the following places in a major defensive stat:2013 - 12014 - 62015 - 22016 - 72017 - 1This year, the Cardinals rank 31st.That stat is Football Outsiders defensive rankings against the run. That’s right, the Cardinals are the second worst team in the NFL against the run. This is a combination of a couple of things.First http://www.authenticsarizonacardinals.com/cheap-andy-lee-jersey , the Cardinals linebacking unit is high key awful. Outside of Josh Bynes, no linebacker this year has played well until this weekend when Haason Reddick was pretty okay and had a nice statistical game.Secondly, the Cardinals defensive line is one gapping and that means the linebackers have to make plays. When you put two and two together, you get the worst, or second worst technically, run defense in the NFL.Then http://www.authenticsarizonacardinals.com/cheap-antoine-bethea-jersey , when you add to that situation an offense that runs less than five plays per offensive possession, and you have a recipe for disaster. You have a perfect storm of a terrible run defense. Can the Cardinals fix it? That’s one of the many questions Steve Wilks and his staff have to answer now.

There was a point this season where the Raiders fan confidence

in our FanPulse survey was in the single digits. That was week 7 after the loss to the Seahawks in London. And yet despite the fact that the team has not won since then Youth Derek Carr Jersey , and the losses have gotten more embarrassing (34-3 vs 49ers anyone?), the fans seem to have gotten more confident in the direction of the team since then. The week after the lay down in London, the team was coming out of their bye and traded Amari Cooper to the Cowboys for a first round pick... and the fan confidence jumped up to 14%. Then when they actually scored a few touchdowns on the Colts before getting blown out again late, the confidence of the fans rose again to 24%. Them moral victories are very real and very powerful. They followed up that flash of competency with the worst loss of the season, getting torched in the final Battle of the Bay 34-3 to the then 1-win 49ers. Yet somehow, some way, the confidence poll level only dropped three points to 21%.Another bad loss to the Chargers — their second of the season — put the team at historically bad point differentials, including being outscored 75-9 in the past nine quarters http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-justin-ellis-jersey , and losing by at least 14 points in five straight games. How did that affect the fan poll? Two points. Two. Points. Raiders fans in the poll are holding steady at 19%. So, let’s review — No games played — confidence up five points. Actual loss in which they score touchdowns — confidence up ten points. Embarrassing loss with historically bad numbers — down two points.Other fan bases whose teams are pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as the Raiders have much lower confidence poll numbers. Jaguars fans are at 3% as are Jets fans. Buccaneers fans are at 6% as are Lions fans. Even the notoriously homeristic Broncos fans are at 8%. Giants and Bengals fans sit at 15%. And the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles fans are at 17%. That’s eight fanbases who have less confidence in the state of their favorite team than the 1-8 Raiders fans. And two other fan bases — the Ravens and Cardinals — are tied with the Raiders at 19%.
Raiders vs. Dolphins fantasy football advice

Cooper Womens Derek Carr Jersey , Carr, Cook will ignite Oakland air raid If NFL games were only 30 minutes long, the Oakland Raiders might be the best team in the league. Unfortunately for Raider Nation, they are not and it is making my fantasy predictions rather difficult. Last week against Denver, I was sort of right about Derek Carr but also wrong. He put on a record-setting display with his completion percentage and looked comfortable all day. But the offense did stall in the second half scoring only seven points. Overall, Carr threw for close to 300 yards and one touchdown resulting in a good fantasy outing. Those who stuck with Amari Cooper finally got the payoff they were looking for as he caught every ball thrown his way. Marshawn Lynch averaged only 3.6 yards per carry but got a touchdown to save his afternoon. My big miss was Jared Cook. He had a so-so day with just four receptions. But hey, I have seen worse games from other premier tight ends. Look at Travis Kelce’s Week 1. Moving on from the Broncos, let’s look forward to the road trip to Miami. Must StartWR Amari CooperThe Dolphins have not been giving up big numbers to the wide receiver position allowing just 22 catches for 281 yards in two games. With that being said, Miami has only faced the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans. The Jets start a rookie quarterback in Sam Darnold with limited outside threats and the Titans aren’t a pass-happy team so I think the numbers are outliers. Also, no one in the Miami secondary has a PFF player grade greater than 66.9, so Cooper should easily be able to exploit the unit. And did you watch Cooper on Sunday? I will happily say it again. He caught every ball that went his way and one more with the play that got called back for a questionable offsetting pass interference penalty. TE Jared CookAgain, the Dolphins are weak in the secondary and at linebacker. So whomever Cook is matched up on, he should have the advantage. Before Delanie Walker got hurt, he was on his way to having a nice day with four receptions for 52 yards against the Miami defense which surrendered 101 yards to the position in Week 1. The Dolphins did limit the Jets to only three receptions, but go ahead and tell me a tight end on their roster? Yeah, good luck. So when a tough matchup is at the tight end position, Miami can be gashed. Jon Gruden seemingly has made Cook an emphasis when a mismatch is there. I bet Gruden and Carr will be looking to go there like they did against the Rams. RB Kenyan DrakeOakland is not doing a great job defending the run allowing 5.76 yards per carry this season. And it is expected to be close to 90 degrees and humid this Sunday in Miami, so it would be reasonable to expect the Oakland defense to looked gas down the stretch like it did last week when Phillip Lindsay ran for 107 yards on 14 carries.Kenyan Drake hasn’t seen many carries this season, just 25 http://www.oaklandraidersteamonline.com/rodney-hudson-jersey , but he has been a productive back when called to duty averaging over four yards per pop. The Raiders haven’t shown to shut down the run game yet and will possibly be without PJ Hall in the middle again, so I will take my chances with Drake. QB Derek CarrAfter seeing what Carr did last week on the road in Denver and the lack of skill in the Dolphins secondary, start the Carr. Proceed with CautionMiami D/STI see a major day through the air for Carr, Cook, and Cooper so it would seem hard to start the defense that will be on the opposite end of that air attack. However, the Dolphins’ defense has forced six turnovers and scored one touchdown in the first two games. So they are making plays. If the Carr from last week shows up, then Miami will get shredded. If it is the Carr from the Rams game, then the Dolphins defense could be headed for a trip to the endzone.BenchRB Marshawn LynchUnless Lynch is up against a horrible run defense, I don’t see a scenario in which he is a start. Lynch is averaging just 3.66 yards per carry and is only putting up solid fantasy numbers to this point because he has found the endzone in each of the games thus far. Lynch is still battling a shoulder injury as well. With the poor Miami secondary, I think we will see a few more touchdowns in the air rather than on the ground lessening the likelihood that Lynch finds another score. QB Ryan Tannehill Ryan Tannehill has never been scary. He is averaging less than 200 yards per game passing and has turned the ball over three times. The one worry might be Tannehill’s mobility, as that has given Oakland trouble in recent memory, but the Raiders have done a decent job against quarterbacks this season allowing just 6.69 yards per attempt, only two touchdowns and zero 250-yard games. The Seahawks run the ball really well. The Raiders don’t defend the run well. Or the dump passes. Or screen passes. Or jet sweeps. Or really anything short. Those plays have consistently turned into big plays. That’s where Russell Wilson thrives, making him a match-up nightmare for the Raiders.“It all starts with the quarterback. You got to defend the play that Seattle calls and then you got to defend the play that Russell Wilson creates,” said Jon Gruden. “He gets out of trouble, he’s a magnificent playmaker.”Rushing the passer has also been a real problem for the Raiders this season. They have just six sacks on the season which is tied for the fewest in the NFL. Wilson has been under pressure a lot in his career, and is adept as escaping that pressure and making plays. If you get pressure outside, he will escape up the middle. If you get pressure up the middle, he will escape outside. “He’s an extremely talented quarterback. Once he gets out of the pocket Authentic Derek Carrier Jersey , that’s when he’s really dangerous,” said rookie Maurice Hurst, who has two sacks this season from the defensive tackle position. “He’s a great passer, very accurate, able to make a lot of big plays for their offense. Just someone that brings that mentality to their team and you got to try to contain that as much as possible.”The Raiders’ best bet to keep him in the pocket and make him beat you with his arm. Which he can also do, as evidenced by his averaging over 4000 yards the past three seasons. Though the Raiders linebackers have been among the worst in the NFL at defending the pass too. Tahir Whitehead seems to have basically resigned himself to the fact that Wilson will find room to run and the Raiders won’t be able to stop him.“Going against Russell is hard. No matter what you do, he’s always going to find those creases to get out on the perimeter to make those big plays and that’s what he thrives on,” said Whitehead. “That’s what gets their team going. As the defense you go in there with the game plan to keep him in the pocket, but you’re just鈥ou can try your best but he always finds a way. On our part we really just have to do as best as possible.”Wilson only has 42 yards rushing this season, but that doesn’t meant he isn’t a threat. He had 586 yards rushing last season, so he is a threat to break it at any time. His mobility is always about running the ball either. it’s about his elusiveness and his ability to create opportunities downfield by escaping the pocket.“He’s a mobile guy. He can move around the pocket,” said Guenther. “He’s got good arm strength. He can get in and out of plays. He’s been a good player for a long time. it’ll be a challenge for us, for sure.”Thus far this season, the Raiders have allowed 52 yards on 10 carries (5.2 yards per carry) and a touchdown to quarterbacks Case Keenum (16), Ryan Tannehill (26), and Baker Mayfield (10). None of whom are as mobile as Wilson.Follow @LeviDamien

If you’ve ever wondered why the Green Bay

Packers have only managed one trip to the Super Bowl since drafting Aaron Rodgers Atlanta Falcons Hoodie , the reason is looking more obvious by the week: head coach Mike McCarthy. The Packers’ 27-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks was a nearly perfect microcosm of the Rodgers-McCarthy era in Green Bay. It saw Rodgers put together a masterful performance that — like many times before — wasn’t enough for a win.Rodgers wasn’t blameless. He finished with 332 passing yards and two touchdowns, but when the Packers needed just a couple yards to convert a crucial third down in the fourth quarter, Rodgers threw at his receiver’s feet. The game wasn’t decided by that play, though. It was lost because a series of mistakes by McCarthy allowed the Seahawks to rally for a game-winning touchdown and wind out the rest of the clock. Why didn’t McCarthy challenge Tyler Lockett’s catch?Seattle was down 24-20 in the fourth quarter when Russell Wilson connected with Tyler Lockett for a huge 34-yard gain. The play set up the Seahawks in the red zone, but a replay showed the diving grab for Lockett may not have been a catch at all:A challenge may not have been as easy as the tweet indicates, though. The NFL’s new catch rules don’t require a player to complete the process of the catch the way they did when Dez Bryant famously “dropped” a pass against the Packers. But it was definitely close. Former NFL head of officiating and FOX rules expert Mike Pereira thought it was incomplete.“I’ll tell you what, I think the ball turns over and hits the ground,” Pereira said. “This, to me, if challenged Customized Atlanta Falcons Jerseys , would be reversed to an incomplete pass.”At such a crucial moment, it would’ve made sense to take a closer look, right?“We talked about it briefly, but it was late,” McCarthy explained after the game. “We didn’t have a look at it.”What? The Seahawks didn’t rush down the field and quick snap against the Packers. Green Bay even had a little extra time, because defensive lineman Kenny Clark was injured on the play. The likelier reason McCarthy hesitated to challenge was because he was down to one timeout. The first two of the second half were lost because the Packers had some substitution snafus that forced Rodgers to avoid delay of game penalties.“The first one we had a specific play on, we wanted guys in a certain spot and the play kind of came in late,” Rodgers said. “We made a sub it seemed like, and I just figured that was an important spot. If we get a first down there we’re moving the sticks, and we’re scoring www.authenticsatlantafalcons.com , so it was a good time to take it.“The second one unfortunately was after the long play to Davante [Adams] where I felt like we had time. There was maybe a late sub. As we broke the huddle I just felt like it wasn’t worth it to try and run something up there for a yard and have second-and-10. Instead, we took a timeout.”Risking the final timeout to potentially nullify a 34-yard gain for the Seahawks would’ve been smart. Instead, McCarthy didn’t and Wilson connected with Ed Dickson three plays later for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown. Why didn’t the Packers go for it on fourth down?Rodgers is usually the man down the stretch, but a poor throw to Marquez Valdes-Scantling left the Packers with a fourth down on their own 33-yard line with 4:20 left in the game. Green Bay needed 2 yards to move the chains, but opted to punt instead of rely on Rodgers to keep the drive moving. The Packers never got the ball back.Seattle picked up two first downs, and that was enough to kneel out the remaining clock for the win. After the game, McCarthy explained that his precious final timeout factored into the decision to trust a defense that had just given up a 75-yard touchdown drive over trusting Rodgers:Playing the numbers meant hoping the Packers defense could hold so Rodgers could get one more shot to drive the final with little time remaining and win the game. But it probably would’ve been a much more worthwhile risk to just let the offense try to move the ball a couple yards on fourth down — especially since field position no longer mattered much. If the Packers didn’t get the first down, they would’ve been in the same situation: in desperate need of a stop. If they got it, the Seahawks would’ve presumably kicked a field goal to try to take a six-point lead. That still gives the Packers a chance.Considering two of the Packers’ four wins this year came when Rodgers led game-winning drives in primetime, it’d be a pretty good chance too.No matter how you slice it Atlanta Falcons T-Shirt , punting was a bad call.Where was Aaron Jones? The Packers opened the game with three rushes for Aaron Jones on their first five offensive plays, including an 8-yard touchdown to give Green Bay an early lead. In the second quarter, Jones caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers.By halftime, Jones had 88 total yards on only 10 touches, but McCarthy told FOX’s Erin Andrews to expect more running in the second half. That never happened. Jones had just four carries in the second half. He carried just once on what could’ve been a huge touchdown drive for the Packers. Instead, the drive had five pass plays and fizzled in the red zone. Green Bay settled for a field goal to take a 24-20 lead, leaving the door open for the Seahawks’ game-winning touchdown.Rodgers has been begging for Jones to be a bigger part of the Packers offense — especially in the red zone:And for a little while it looked like McCarthy listened. Until he didn’t. Rodgers could’ve cut through all the missteps if he just threw an accurate pass to Valdes-Scantling. But that’s how it’s been for most of his time in Green Bay. Rodgers can’t make any mistakes, because — way too often — he already has to overcome his coach’s.3 Falcons up, 3 Falcons down in Week 5 loss to Steelers The Atlanta Falcons will need a Herculean effort and a miracle or two in order to salvage the 2018 season after losing 41-17 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.Who’s up and who’s down in the loss?UpMohamed SanuSanu earns himself a spot here for galloping past multiple Steelers defenders on a 43-yard touchdown — his longest as a member of the Falcons. He finished the day with four receptions for 73 yards and the score. The solid performance comes a week after he posted his first 100-yard receiving game as a Falcon.Austin HooperHooper hauled in a career-high nine receptions against Pittsburgh, with eight of those coming in the first half. He looked to be primed for a huge day Atlanta Falcons Hats , but as you know, the wheels fell off the wagon for the Falcons in the second half.Damonate KazeeThe second-year player notched another interception on an abysmal decision by Ben Roethlisberger to lay a ball up for grabs in the end zone at the end of the first half. Kazee now has an interception in back-to-back weeks.DownRyan Schraeder Atlanta’s right tackle gets the call out here, but the offensive line was dominated as a whole. Schraeder, however, was repeatedly bested by T.J. Watt as the Steelers linebacker racked up three sacks and forced a fumble on Matt Ryan in the fourth quarter that resulted in a scoop and score touchdown. Ryan was sacked a total of six times and pressured all afternoon.Duke RileyRiley has been in the spotlight all season for his noticeable struggles, and his outing Sunday probably didn’t change any critics’ minds. His missed his share of tackles, but he certainly wasn’t alone on that front as the Falcons defense struggled to wrap up across the board.Pass rushRoethlisberger was unbothered for much of the afternoon as Atlanta generated virtually no pressure on the quarterback. Frankly, Roethlisberger should’ve piled up gaudy numbers since his offensive line held the Falcons at bay.

This fair website declared Zion

Williamson the best dunker of his generation months before he even started his senior year of high school. That was the type of reputation Williamson built as a prep star Robert Alford Jersey , amassing millions of YouTube views, a gigantic social media following, and a handful of Top 10 clips on SportsCenter prior to attending prom.Williamson hasn’t just lived up to the hype during the start of his college basketball career at Duke — he’s exceeded it. This man is so much more than a dunker, showing off the vision of a point guard, jaw-dropping shot blocking ability, a non-stop motor and even the beginnings of a three-point stroke. Still, we keep coming back to the dunks. This is a running post of Zion’s best dunks this season, ranked by the ones that got the biggest reaction from the Internet. This post will be updated all season, because these Zion highlights are just getting started.6. Zion’s first dunkDuke had already blown out Kentucky before Zion even got his first dunk. It was only going to get better from here.5. Alley-oop vs. ArmyWe were dangerously close to Zion dunking on his own teammate two games into his college career. Maybe next time.4. Alley-oop vs. Eastern MichiganTre Jones — Duke’s other, other, other freshmen stud — just flipped this thing over his shoulder. He knew that no matter where he put it, Zion was going to get it.3. Cock-back slam vs. Eastern MichiganAs has been noted, this is basically LeBron’s signature dunk. It also produced a perfect photo:Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsDo they still make actual dunk posters? Because this should be a poster.2. Splits Kentucky’s defense for a slamPoor Reid Travis, widely considered the best transfer in the country this season, simply getting dusted off the dribble by someone four years younger than him. Williamson didn’t even need the screen here, just pure speed-to-power as he explodes to the hoop, 1. Eyes-at-the-rim alley-oop vs. Eastern MichiganBless Cam Reddish for throwing this pass a little too high. For any other intended target, this lob is sailing over their head for a turnover. For Zion, it’s a slam you’ll be seeing on his highlight reel all season. Just look where his eyes are at: That’s a 285-pound 18-year-old doing that. We can’t get enough. Clemson’s got four remaining hurdles to get to the College Football Playoff, and the Tigers are likely to clear all of them. S&P+ gives them a 75 percent chance of winning their final three regular season games (they’re at least an 18-point favorite in each) and would deem them a 29-point favorite against Pitt in the ACC title game, a 27-point favorite against Virginia Tech, or a 25-point favorite against Virginia. The next few games feel like they’re as much about staying healthy as conquering challenges, but if one game still has even slight uncertainty, it’s this battle with Boston College.Clemson will probably win. But BC has proved a tricky out this season. The Eagles are 7-2 with a top-30 defense and an offense that alternates between constant explosions and steady implosions. They can make big plays from any situation but might not make any; they’re horrible on third-and-long but don’t face any. Opponents avoid their run defense, passing constantly, but they defend the pass better than the run. With the way Clemson’s been playing of late, though, it might not matter. Since the Tigers narrowly survived Syracuse with their freshman backup quarterback (as opposed to their freshman starting quarterback), they’ve been as dominant as ever. They beat Wake Forest, NC State, Florida State, and Louisville by an average of 60-9 (!!). On offense they’re in the top 10 in both Rushing S&P+ and Passing Downs S&P+, and their defense is dominant in all but a select few categories. They have for the last month dominated at an Alabama level, and they are only a little bit behind the Tide in overall S&P+. This is a machine, and if the Tigers survive strangeness in Chestnut Hill, they’re just about to the finish line.Below are FBS picks and projections using the S&P+ projections, listed in full for all 130 FBS teams here. See the bottom of the post for more detail about these. The spread (listed in parentheses) is shown next to S&P+’s pick for each game. The team in bold is projected to beat the spread. (At most books, there is no listed spread for FCS games.) When S&P+ predicts a tie or a push (a tie with Vegas, basically), I list the pick on the side S&P+ would pick if teams could score in decimals. This document breaks games (and S&P+’s season performance to date) out into their decimal glory. This year, I am including and monitoring total (over/under) picks as well.Weeknight gamesSyracuse’s Alton RobinsonPhoto by Brett Carlsen/Getty ImagesNo. 13 Syracuse 38, Louisville (+21.5) 22 (Nov. 09, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2)No. 14 NC State 38, Wake Forest (+17.5) 24 (Nov. 08, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)No. 23 Fresno State (-3) 33, Boise State 24 (Nov. 09, 10:15 p.m. ET, ESPN2)Buffalo (-20.5) 41, Kent State 17 — Buffalo won by 34 (W)Northern Illinois 27, Toledo (+3) 27 — NIU won by 23 (L)Ohio 33, Miami (Ohio) (+3.5) 32 — Miami won by 2 (W)After drubbing Louisville appropriately, Syracuse gets a shot at Notre Dame next week in a strangely big game, one that could determine the Irish’s spot in the Playoff or the Orange’s spot in a New Year’s Six bowl.Ranked vs. rankedMississippi State’s Nick FitzgeraldVasha Hunt-USA TODAY SportsNo. 1 Alabama 37, No. 16 Mississippi State (+24) 19 (Nov. 10, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS)No. 2 Clemson 35, No. 17 Boston College (+20.5) 17 (Nov. 10, 8 p.m. ET, ABC)No. 5 Georgia 33, No. 24 Auburn (+14.5) 20 (Nov. 10, 7 p.m. ET Authentic Matt Bosher Jersey , ESPN)No. 10 Ohio State (-3.5) 30, No. 18 Michigan State 25 (Nov. 10, 12 p.m. ET, Fox)I’m curious how long Mississippi State can make Alabama uncomfortable on Saturday. Going by S&P+, MSU is the best team the Crimson Tide have faced this season. They defend about as well as LSU, and they can run the ball as well as LSU wishes it could. The Bulldogs could make things interesting if quarterback Nick Fitzgerald can hit a couple of deep shots, but, well, it is putting it kindly to say that Fitzgerald has struggled to hit the deep shots — the MSU offense is third in Rushing S&P+ but 87th in Passing S&P+. That sounds exciting, at least until you think about the teams’ combined 9-8 record.Meanwhile, I can’t believe these words are leaving my keyboard, but you should try to watch some of the Nebraska-Illinois game. It will be much more fun than you expect. Nebraska has scored at least 31 points for four straight games and is up to 44th in Off. S&P+ after a tough start. Meanwhile, Illinois — Illinois! — has one of the most enjoyable run games in the country. The Illini are sixth in Rushing S&P+ and rushed for more than 400 yards against Minnesota last week. Granted, they fall apart as soon as they have to rely on anything other than the ground game, but it’s something! At 4-5, the Illini still have, per S&P+, a 10 percent chance of reaching bowl eligibility.
The New York Times’ Marc Stein reports the NBA

and players’ union have agree to televise the All-Star Draft in late January. You may remember that the NBA debuted the All-Star Draft -- where the two top vote-getters picked teams from the pool of All-Stars -- last season to make the game more interesting and mix up the conference pools. It worked! The game was nice. But the league didn’t televise the draft over fears of pettiness and discord in what is supposed to be pure fun. Everyone complained (including yours truly) and the NBA and players flipped this year. So we’ll get to see it. (Credit especially to Rachel Nichols Atlanta Falcons Hats , who beat these drum last year.)Now the NBA just needs to fix the All-Star selection process.Putting all of the All-Stars into a pool to avoid East vs. West battles is necessary for the draft format, obviously. But the NBA really ought to abandon conference alignment when selecting All-Stars in the first place. Instead of voters (fans, players, and the media) picking five East and five West starters, and coaches picking seven East and seven West reserves, it should just be one big pool. Voters should pick 10 starters; coaches should elect 14 reserves. (I’ve given up on expanding All-Star rosters to normal NBA roster size. Playing time in the All-Star is obviously an important consideration, though if you picked 30 total you wouldn’t need commissioner replacements when guys get injured.)The West simply has way more star-level players than the East. It would be arbitrary to continue to segregate the selection pools. Conferences mean increasingly little. Don’t look now friends, but Tennessee might just make a bowl game. After beating Kentucky pretty handily, 24-7, the Vols ate are at five wins with two games remaining. Nothing is certain www.falconscheapshops.com , but a bowl game for Pruitt in his first year would be a pretty big deal, and an overperformance relative to preseason projections and general expectations. With Kentucky, the roadmap was clear. If you hold them under 3 yards per carry, you win (unless you’re Missouri, in which case you’ll lose on an untimed down after regulation). The Wildcats did rush for 3.9 sack-adjusted yards, but Tennessee changed the game state by halftime by getting out to a big lead and making the Cats have to chase the game. Pruitt had his defense ready to stop the ‘Cats, and held them to only 3.6 per play. Pruitt’s shown an ability to come up with creative blitz packages like this. And when you’re up 17, you can really sic the dawgs on your opponent. Tennessee’s showing some fight late in this season. That’s more than can be expected for a team that tanked at the end of last season. Tennessee navigated a tough four-game stretch by going 1-3 (against South Carolina in a close loss, Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn). They aren’t making the Playoff anytime soon Atlanta Falcons T-Shirt , but they do actually have postseason hopes within grasp with Missouri and Vanderbilt ahead on the schedule. Win one, and the Vols are bowling. This is where I tell you not to make this into more than it is. This is one football team getting incrementally better over the course of a season. They won one game you wouldn’t have projected them to earlier this season against Auburn, and they beat a pretty good Kentucky team. They nearly beat South Carolina, and the Florida game was a bit flukey due to six turnovers. The Vols are in a good place for now, and it can very well mean nothing long-term. Neither Tennessee nor Jeremy Pruitt have done really anything to earn benefit of the doubt about parlaying this. You’ll remember: one Derek Dooley struggled through his first season to 2-6, then won out to make a bowl game. It can go really poorly in the future, but for now the Vols are looking alright.

Detroit Lions Week 1 report card: F everything

It’s time to break out the red marker again for another year of report card grades for the Detroit Lions. Each week Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , I’ll be handing out your normal A through F grades for each position on the roster. Based on the Lions’ Week 1 performance against the New York Jets, I think I’m going to run out of red ink before the bye week. Quarterbacks: FThere is no excuse for the game Matthew Stafford had. I don’t care if the Jets recognized his hand signals. I don’t care if the play-calling was predictable. I don’t care if there was a sleeper-cell agent inside the Lions huddle (my money is on Luke Willson). You can’t make the kind of mistakes Stafford did all game. Stafford made some extremely poor reads, and looked completely flustered when pressured. I haven’t seen him play that badly in a long, long time. Running backs: DLeGarrette Blount looked completely ineffective, rushing for -3 yards on four carries. He was effectively benched in the game after nearly fumbling, and it didn’t seem like he could break a single tackle. The Lions decided to ride with Theo Riddick for most of the game, and outside of a bad drop, Riddick didn’t do horribly, but he certainly still doesn’t look capable of being a lead back. As expected, Kerryon Johnson looked the best of the group, but the guy only got eight touches and turned them into 37 yards. Tight ends: FIf Monday is any indication, tight ends are not going to figure into the Lions’ passing offense game plan. Pure blocker Levine Toilolo led all tight ends in snaps, and considering the Lions’ couldn’t run the ball and Stafford got hurt twice, I think it’s fairly safe to say the tight end game plan didn’t work all that well. Michael Roberts and Luke Willson are continuing to have an extremely disappointing two months to start the year. Wide receivers: C-Just about every wide receiver had a bad in this game, but this unit did also produce the only player worth talking about in a positive fashion: Kenny Golladay. Not only did Golladay surprise with an extremely efficient game (after a quiet camp and preseason) but he also had the hit of the game: Golladay finished with seven catches on 12 targets for 144 yards, and there’s the end of nice things I’ll be saying for the rest of this article. Offensive line: COkay, maybe one more nice thing. Despite Stafford getting beat up, I thought the offensive line pass blocked relatively well. Stafford didn’t take a single sack in the game, and at times, he had an extremely long time to throw. There were some mistakes made. Frank Ragnow had a very up-and-down NFL debut, but overall, I think the Lions offensive line did much more good than bad when it came to pass blocking. The problem is we were all promised an improved run blocking performance this year, and that obviously never materialized. Detroit was pretty much forced to abandon the run halfway through the game Authentic Graham Glasgow Jersey , so maybe better things are on the horizon in games that don’t get way out of control, but for one night, it looked like more of the same.Defensive line: D-For a brief moment, it looked like the defensive line may have been better than advertised in the preseason. The Lions notched two first-quarter sacks after only have two total during the entire exhibition season. But then Ezekiel Ansah predictably went down with an injury, and Sam Darnold had all day to pick apart the Lions secondary for the final three quarters. The interior of the line, led by two aging veterans, failed to provide any push nor did they plug any running lanes. They are who we thought they were. Linebackers: DI’m not really sure what unit I should give credit for Devon Kennard, but since he’s listed as a linebacker, I guess I’ll give it to them. Outside of Quandre Diggs’ pick-six, he was the only notable positive performer on the defensive side of the ball. Missed tackles, poor angles, bad play recognition: it was all there. Secondary: FThey weren’t helped out by a poor pass rush, but the Diggs’ interception was long forgotten by the second quarter. Nevin Lawson was punished, as predicted. Tavon Wilson failed to make a play on Darnold’s 41-yard touchdown bomb, and the secondary was completely ineffective in run defense. Quin continues to look his age. Special teams: F-I rarely pull out the F minus, but the Lions’ special teams unit fully earned it on Monday night. Former Lions punt returner Andre Roberts just annihilated the Lions’ special teams units, and averaged FORTY-FIVE YARDS PER PUNT RETURN. Meanwhile Matt Prater missed a couple kicks. Coaching: FI don’t know if the Lions offense is tipping plays, and at this point, I don’t really care. The offense is inefficient and it’s clear the same problems that have plagued the unit for years remain. This offense looks absolutely no different after an entire offseason to adjust. That’s poor coaching whether the defense knows your plays or not.On top of that, there were some seriously puzzling personnel decisions that appears to have backfired. Bradley Marquez was kept on the 53-man roster specifically for his special teams acumen, and his punt return coverage was especially bad on Monday. A’Shawn Robinson was a healthy scratch, and with only two defensive tackles dressed, Sylvester Williams and Ricky Jean Francois looked dead tired in the second half—each posting over 75 percent of snaps. Also Youth Sam Martin Jersey , can we unleash Kerryon Johnson next week, please? I love you, Theo, but you should never be getting carries inside the 10-yard line. The Detroit Lions are coming off the bye and heading into their litmus test portion of the season. No one really knows what to think of the Lions right now, with two big wins on their resume, but those three ugly losses loom large. The next seven games for the Lions are against teams that are .500 or better, meaning we’re about to find out who this team is in a hurry. First up on the block is the Miami Dolphins, an equally confusing team. Let’s get to know them a little better. Miami DolphinsLast season6-10 record (3rd in AFC East)28th in points scored, 29th in points allowedOverall DVOA: 27th (27th on offense, 28th on defense)2018 offseasonKey free agent additions: WR Danny Amendola, RB Frank Gore, WR Albert Wilson, G Josh Sitton (IR), C Daniel Kilgore (trade)Key losses: WR Jarvis Landry, DT Ndamukong Suh, C Mike Pouncey, K Cody Parkey 2018 NFL draft picks:Round 1, 11 overall - DB Minkah FitzpatrickRound 2, Pick 42 - TE Mike GesickiRound 3, Pick 73 - LB Jerome BakerRound 4, Pick 123 - TE Durham SmytheRound 4, Pick 131 - RB Kalen BallageRound 6, Pick 209 - CB Cornell ArmstrongRound 7 http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-darius-slay-jersey , Pick 227 - LB Quentin PolingRound 7, Pick 229 - K Jason SandersDespite a puzzling 6-10 record, the 2017 Miami Dolphins were not good. They had the fourth worst point differential and their DVOA numbers were all towards the bottom of the league. So this year, the team went out and tried to fix one of their bigger issues: the offensive line. They moved on from long-time center Mike Pouncey and traded for Daniel Kilgore. They also added veteran guard Josh Sitton to the starting five. Unfortunately, both Pouncey and Kilgore have suffered major injuries, and both on on IR.However, the Dolphins’ biggest addition thus far has been Albert Wilson, who just had a breakout game against the Bears. Wilson joins 2015 first-round pick DeVante Parker, 2016 sixth-round pick Jakeem Grant and 2015 trade acquisition Kenny Stills to form one of the most underrated receiving units in the league. To improve defensively—and make up for the loss of Suh—the Dolphins have focused on their back end. For the third straight year, the Dolphins spent a third-round pick or higher on a cornerback, this time Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick.2018 season thus far (4-2)Week 1: Win over Titans, 27-20Week 2: Win at Jets, 20-12Week 3: Win over Raiders, 28-20Week 4: Loss at Patriots, 7-38Week 5: Loss at Bengals, 17-27Week 6: Win over Bears, 31-28 (OT)Stats:22nd in points scored, 17th in points allowed6th in DVOA (15th on offense, 9th on defense, 3rd on special teams)There’s nothing flashy about this Dolphins team, and it seems puzzling they are 4-2 thus far. Al four of their wins were by a single possession, but their two losses were both by double-digits. Their wins are over some mediocre-to-bad talents, but their losses are to some very good teams in the AFC. In terms of point differential Tavon Wilson Jersey , the Dolphins are bad. In act, they’re worse than the Lions at -15 (20th). But those DVOA numbers—sixth best in the league—tell a different story, and it’s not really clear why.The team isn’t moving the ball all that well overall on offense. They’re 30th in yards per drive and 28th in points per drive, according to Football Outsiders. They’re a little better on defense, but not by much. They’re 25th in yards per drive allowed, and seventh in points per drive allowed. Wait... back up there. Seventh in points allowed... let me crunch some numbers.Okay, here’s the deal. The Dolphins have been winning games by playing the field position game. They rank sixth in starting field position on offense, averaging drives starting on the 30.7-yard line. Defensively, they also rank sixth, with an average starting position at the 26-yard line. How are they winning the field position battle? Special teams and turnovers. Let’s start with special teams. They’re 14th in net punting average, which is just okay, but they’ve pinned opposing teams inside the 20 14 times, good for fifth most. In terms of returning, they’re lethal. Meet Jakeem Grant. Grant already has a punt and kick return touchdown, leading to the Dolphins ranking third in punt returns (15.7) and second in kickoff returns (32.8).Then there’s that improved secondary. The Dolphins lead the league in interceptions (11), and that will do wonders for your field position. Unfortunately for the Detroit Lions, there’s not one player the Lions need to worry about. Six different players have recorded an interception, including first-round pick Minkah Fitzpatrick. So, in my opinion, this is a below average team that is overperforming right now. They’re not horrible—and their offensive weapons pose a legitimate threat for big plays—but some regression is in order. If the Lions can avoid allowing big plays on special teams (no easy task given how Detroit’s special teams units have looked so far), and Matthew Stafford avoids turnovers, this is a more than winnable game for Detroit. Vegas line for Sunday: Dolphins by 4 Lions by 2.5

Notes: Top Pro Football Focus grades from Lions vs. 49ers

The Detroit Lions looked better on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. It obviously wasn’t good enough http://www.thelionsfootballauthentic.com/ricky-wagner-jersey-authentic , but it provided some optimism heading into Week 3’s game against the New England Patriots.Pro Football Focus released the top performers for the Lions this week, and there’s a good mix of surprising names and not-so-surprising names. First, the offense:No surprise seeing Kenny Golladay atop their list. According to PFF, Golladay has the fourth highest grade among all wide receivers between 10-19 yards downfield (minimum five targets). It’s a pleasant surprise to see Kenny Wiggins with a solid grade, seeing as he had such a poor preseason and was up against a solid 49ers defensive line. It gives some hope that the Lions offensive line could be okay if T.J. Lang continues to miss time.On the other end of the spectrum, rookie guard Frank Ragnow continues to struggle. According to PFF, he allowed seven pressures and a sack, resulting in an awful 17.2 pass blocking grade. Seeing third-round pick Tracy Walker atop the list has got to feel good for Lions fans, who were overwhelmingly skeptical of that draft pick. However, he only played 10 snaps on Sunday, so let’s not jump to conclusions quite yet. A’Shawn Robinson seems to have adjusted nicely to his Week 1 benching, earning the top grade of any defensive lineman on the team. Meanwhile, Da’Shawn Hand continues to impress in his rookie year. Both former Alabama products combined for six run stops and three quarterback pressures on Sunday, per PFF.Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press brings up an interesting point regarding Darius Slay, who is recovering from a concussion suffered on Sunday: The NFL has determined that the holding penalty called on Quandre Diggs that negated a potential game-winning interception was indeed the right call. The Lions made a minor transaction on Tuesday and now have an open spot on their roster: And here are some of the players they worked out this week: Note: it’s actually Aaron Ripkowski, not Alan. The Sporting News thinks the Lions have literally a zero percent chance of making the playoffs after their 0-2 start. Chris Spielman again joined Mike O’Hara of DetroitLions.com to discuss three big plays from Sunday’s game:The Detroit Lions should claim former Dolphins DT Jordan Phillips On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions made an odd transaction. They waived special teams player Dee Virgin. While the move itself wasn’t all that surprising, the fact that Detroit had no corresponding move, leaving them with an empty roster spot, is somewhat strange. Typically, that’s a sign the team has an addition in mind, and we’ll likely hear of it on Wednesday.I, too http://www.thelionsfootballauthentic.com/christian-jones-jersey-authentic , have a transaction in mind for the Lions, and it has to do with a move the Miami Dolphins made on Tuesday. They added center Wesley Johnson (remember him?) and promoted defensive end Cameron Malveaux from the practice squad. To make room for the two, they placed center Daniel Kilgore on injured reserve, but more relevant to our interests, they waived former second-round pick, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. The Lions should absolutely put in a claim for Phillips, and here’s why.The Lions’ interior defensive line is really badDetroit was hoping to get serious contributions out of two key free agent pickups: Sylvester Williams and Ricky Jean Francois. The former had all the promise of a nose tackle, while the latter had valuable knowledge and experience of the Matt Patricia scheme. Francois has already lost the starting job to A’Shawn Robinson, who entered the season a healthy scratch. Williams has just five tackles in four starts, and even though his job is more to fill space, he hasn’t been doing that either. His PFF grade of 61.9 is good for 77th among interior defenders. Phillips fits the physical profile of Detroit’s needsAt 6-foot-6, 341 pounds, Phillips is exactly the kind of player the Lions could use as a rotational nose tackle when Williams is ineffective, injured, tired or a combination of all three. Phillips is fairly gifted athletically (6.53 RAS), and his incredibly tall frame makes him a tough man to push around in the run game. His NFL Draft profile reads as exactly someone this Lions defense desperately needs. From Lance Zierlein:So not only does he physically fit what the Lions need, but he excels at exactly what the Lions schematically need out of a nose. The downsidesAt this point in the season, you aren’t going to pluck a player from waivers or free agency that will drastically alter the course of your season, unless said player comes with some serious baggage (hi, Dez Bryant). So, yeah, Phillips isn’t going to be the best player on the defense suddenly. Phillips has been publicly called out for his inconsistent play before, accused of dogging certain plays when tired.“The bottom line is Jordan has got to play better overall Womens Ricky Jean Francois Jersey ,” Vance Joseph, his defensive coordinator, said back in 2016. “Out of 35 plays, Jordan is playing a solid 25 plays very solidly. He’s having four or five plays where it’s not very good.”It went on like that for a couple years in Miami, leading Jordan, once a starter alongside Ndamukong Suh, to be delegated to a rotational role. Phillips hasn’t started a game this year and has played in just 124 total defensive snaps. He wasn’t very happy about that: And his first reaction upon getting cut by the Dolphins? Pure bliss:For many, that’s a clear red flag in terms of character. Someone who doesn’t defer to the coaches may struggle when adversity inevitably hits. Desperate times call for desperate measuresAdmittedly, that’s a lot of downsides for someone I’m banging the table for, but the Lions are desperate. It’s doesn’t help that Phillips may not be well-versed in Patricia’s system and is currently the third lowest graded interior defender according to Pro Football Focus, but this team is bleeding out, allowing nearly 160 rushing yards per game and 5.3 yards per carry. Last year, the worst run defense allowed just 4.9 YPC. Phillips had very clearly mentally checked out in Miami, and we’ve already seen some new additions make an immediate impact for Detroit. Eli Harold, added just before the season, has three sacks already. Romeo Okwara, added during Week 1, has been the leading snap-getter on the defensive line over the past two weeks, garnering over 80 percent of snaps in games against the Patriots and Cowboys. “Change of scenery” is an often-used excuse to drum up hope that a busted player could succeed under a new team, and that could very well be what I’m pitching here. But there’s not much room for this Lions defense to fall, and a player like Phillips comes cheap (still on his rookie contract) and without much risk. Put Phillips in a rotational role to begin in the hopes that his limited role will minimize the plays he takes off. If he shows promise and understands the scheme, there’s no reason why he couldn’t displace Sylvester Williams as an eventual starter or at least share the role equally come November.

Lions notes: Detroit has the NFL’s worst red zone offense

The Detroit Lions’ red zone struggles were back on display this past Sunday against the Cowboys. Though they did score once Tavon Wilson Jersey , thanks to a phenomenal run from rookie Kerryon Johnson, earlier in the game, the Lions were forced to settle for a field goal, pushing an early lead to four instead of eight. Combine that with Detroit’s other three games, and you get literally the worst red zone offense in the entire NFL.This is particularly troubling when you consider how good the Lions’ offense has been outside of the red area. According to Football Outsiders, the Lions are ninth in average yards per drive, 14th in points per drive, and they only go three-and-out 14 percent of the time, which is good for third best. Also interesting of note, the other three teams with poor red zone offenses are the three teams that have defeated Detroit thus far. It should come as no surprise that the Lions’ red zone defense (by touchdown percentage) is third-best in the league—allowing a touchdown just 35.7 percent of the time. Matt Millen is stepping down from his announcing role with Big Ten Network to focus on his health. As you may remember Authentic Matt Prater Jersey , Millen is dealing with a rare heart disease and fighting for his life. Obviously, this news doesn’t seem like a good sign, but we’re hoping for the best for the former Lions general manager: The odds to win the NFC North are pretty evenly dispersed... except for the Lions. Per Bovada.LV, here’s what the odds look like after Week 4:Packers: 8/5Bears: 2/1Vikings: 2/1Lions: 18/1Yikes.Hey, the Lions aren’t terrible in the first half. Hooray? Recapping film review pieces from around the Lions beat: Justin Rogers has five observations, and Kyle Meinke describes how the Lions’ plan to force Dak Prescott to throw backfired.Don’t look at this. Close out your window right now. Save yourself: Everybody loves on-field audio. The Lions provided the “Sights and Sounds” for their Week 4 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Lions players in superhero costumes + helping out families dealing with pediatric cancer = awesome.Saturday open thread: Who are the key Lions players vs. Cowboys? The Detroit Lions have created their own opportunity last week. Facing the possibility of an 0-3 hole that almost no teams ever crawl out of, Detroit pulled off a huge upset over the New England Patriots. Now, thanks to struggles around the rest of the division, the Lions can jump the Vikings this week, and could even theoretically jump to a tie for the division lead by the end of Sunday. But to keep the good times rolling Youth Nevin Lawson Jersey , they can’t look past a hungry Dallas Cowboys team. The Cowboys have been the source of a lot of criticism over the past couple weeks, and if they can’t turn things around soon, they risk falling far enough behind the reigning Super Bowl champs that they won’t be able to recover. So the Lions will need some big individual performances to come out of Dallas with a win. Today’s Question of the Day is:Who are the Lions’ key players vs. the Cowboys? My answer: I’ll give one on offense, one on defense. Offensively, I think the Lions need a big game out of Matthew Stafford. It’s the easy answer, yes, but he’s going to have a challenge this week with an impressive Cowboys front seven. Stafford has been inconsistent thus far in 2018, and he has way too many turnovers. Detroit just can’t succeed with Stafford giving the ball away that often. Defensively, it’s all about stopping Ezekiel Elliott, and that means it’s time for Jarrad Davis to step up. Unfortunately http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-taylor-decker-jersey , Davis popped up on Friday’s injury report, which means there’s no guarantee he’ll play this week, but if he does, he’s going to be at his best. Not only will he have to play gap-discipline football, but he’ll need to show some more controlled tackling than he’s displayed thus far. Elliott is the kind of running back that will immediately punish someone with unsound tackling form, and Davis has been all over the place.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage
