HT: Things are looking up for the Broncos’ O-line

When the Denver Broncos selected Garett Bolles with the 20th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft Youth Matt Paradis Jersey , there was plenty of debate. Some fans thought the Broncos should have chosen Ryan Ramczyk or Cam Robinson instead. Other fans pounded the table for a defensive playmaker. It was a pretty controversial pick in Broncos Country. And unfortunately, Bolles’ rookie season did little to alleviate the controversy. Penalties & pass blocking issues overshadowed good run blocking for a Broncos fanbase that was not inclined to be patient. It was far from just Bolles, though. The Broncos did boast a Pro Bowl quality center & guard combo in Matt Paradis and Ron Leary, but Max Garcia had an awful season at left guard. And as for the right tackle position... well, the less said about that disaster, the better. Now, quite a bit has changed. The two biggest changes don’t even involve the offensive linemen directly:The Broncos let Brock Osweiler walk, traded Trevor Siemian away, and cut Paxton Lynch. On the flipside, they signed Case Keenum & promoted Chad Kelly. The Broncos fired offensive line coach Jeff Davidson. They replaced him with Chris Strausser, who they promoted from assistant o-line coach to Offensive Line-Tackles coach Youth Darian Stewart Jersey , and Sean Kugler. Kugler, the former head coach at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), is the Offensive Line-Guards/Centers coach. With better coaching & greatly improved QB play, the entire Broncos offensive line is, well, flourishing. Connor McGovern has stepped in across from Leary, with Garcia now a backup. And John Elway pulled off a heck of an offseason trade, bringing veteran offensive tackle Jared Veldheer in from the Arizona Cardinals for the low, low price of a 6th round pick. The results are speaking for themselves. Pro Football Focus has both Bolles & Veldheer among the top 25 offensive tackles in the NFL, and Paradis is among the best centers. Overall, they’re currently ranking the Broncos’ O-line as the 13th best in the NFL. That’s a huge step up from an abysmal 2017!But perhaps even more telling is Football Outsiders’ take on the Broncos’ offensive line: Adjusted Line Yards: 3rdPower Running Rank: 7thStuffed Rank: 15th2nd Level Rank: 9thOpen Field Rank: 5thPass Protection: 4thWith just 2 sacks allowed http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/domata-peko-jersey-authentic , the Broncos are allowing an Adjusted Sack Rate of just 3.0%. One thing to note: opponent adjustments aren’t factored in until after Week 4 due to sample size, so we’ll see where things stand then. For good measure, here’s how the Broncos rank on runs in each direction:Left End: 9thLeft Tackle: 31stMid/Guard: 9thRight Tackle: 8thRight End: 5thThe low rank on runs toward the Left Tackle is a bit concerning, but let’s add a bit of context: only 4% of the Broncos’ runs have been headed that way, so each individual play’s impact is magnified. And besides- there are a whole lot more single digit rankings up there to get excited about.Beyond just the stats, the offensive line’s progress has been clear to see for anyone watching the games. Success in the trenches is a big part of having a successful NFL offense, and the marked improvement in this area is helping turn one of the league’s worst 2017 offenses into one of its more intriguing 2018 units.Horse Tracks5 reasons Baker Mayfield’s 2-point conversion for the Browns was amazing - SBNation.comHe’s done this before ... at Oklahoma!Jets vs. Browns results: Baker Mayfield leads Cleveland to 21-17 win - SBNation.comThe Browns picked up a win and got a fantastic debut for Baker Mayfield against the Jets on Thursday. How the Browns beat the Jets to get their first win since 2016 - SBNation.comRookies Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward starred in the Browns’ first win since Robert Griffin III was the starter.Carlos Hyde rushes to hospital to welcome baby after helping Browns win - SBNation.comCarlos Hyde will soon be a new dad after the Browns beat the Jets on "Thursday Night Football."Browns fans open Bud Light fridges to celebrate a win with free beer - SBNation.comFree beer is free beer, and Clevelanders earned this one.The best reactions to the Browns’ win, 635 days in the making - SBNation.comLebron James, J.R. Can the Steelers earn their first win of the season against a surprising Buccaneers team? Falcons or Saints in Atlanta? Elliot Harrison picks every Week 3 game. You know the season is lost when you lose to the hapless New York Jets. That is what happened to the Denver Broncos on Sunday in a 34-16 defeat, and if the Jets are bad, what does that make Denver? The Broncos (2-3) might be worse than they were a season ago, and they were bad in 2017. Winners The Jets Unlike the Broncos, New York moved up in the NFL Draft and got its franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold. It’s fitting the Jets just beat Denver. The future looks bright for Gang Green. The same cannot be said about Broncos Country.Phillip Lindsay The Broncos rookie running back was pretty much the only player who shined on offense. He is fun to watch and will play a big role for this franchise in the foreseeable future.Adam Gotsis Hey, you have to try and find the positives at this point, and at least Denver’s defense created a turnover. Not only that, the offense turned that into a touchdown. At least the start was good. Too bad it derailed shortly after that.Losers Vance Joseph The time has come to fire him and move on. It’s easy to lose track of the number of embarrassing games he’s overseen as head coach Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , but Sunday against the Jets is the most recent. No more. Joe WoodsNo more. As is the case for Joseph, the time has come to move on. At least Wade Phillips will be in the building next Sunday to completely destroy the franchise that did him wrong.Garett Bolles Or is it Garett Holds? Either way, he leads the NFL in holding penalties and the issues that plagued him in his rookie season haven’t been fixed. The “bust” talk is only going to grow louder and louder. Denver’s offensive line Despite the success this unit has had in run blocking, it is putrid in pass protection. This unit has been bad over the Broncos’ three-game losing streak and now the Los Angeles Rams are up next. Case Keenum Keenum is a liability at this point, and it’s time to consider making the switch to Chad Kelly. Keenum has proven his success with the Minnesota Vikings last season was a fluke. Bradley Roby Holy shit, was he torched on Sunday. What else is there to say? He wasn’t alone, since the Frequent Flyer Zone was open for business against the Jets. Broncos run defenseHoly shit, was this unit torched on Sunday. What else is there to say? John Elway It’s been said that Denver’s legend has no Plan B. Never has that been more true since Peyton Manning retired. It’s clear at this point that Elway has no clue what he’s doing. And his franchise just shamed itself by being annihilated by a bad team that has a franchise quarterback. Whoops.

They drove into the red zone on each of their first three drives and new wideout Amari Cooper scored a touchdown, but those seven points were all they managed thanks to a missed field goal and an interception in t... In Week 5, the Seattle Seahawks played their best game of the season against the league’s best team. It still wasn’t enough, as the Seahawks fell to the Rams 33-31. Meanwhile, in Carson, California, Oakland Raiders fans flooded the StubHub Center and the “home” of the L.A. Chargers only to see their team lose 26-10, in a game that was not nearly as close as the score would indicate. Though people have been all too happy to write the 1-4 Raiders off as a bad football team—which they may be—they have had some promising moments. Oakland has started brightly in most of their games 12th Fan Jersey , and Jon Gruden’s game scripts are a big reason for this. Offensive and Defensive Primers Gruden’s return to the NFL was headlined by his apparent desire to bring it back to 1998. Like a lot of stuff that comes out of Gruden’s mouth in front of the media, that has proven to be untrue. Through five weeks, Gruden’s offense has at least resembled something close to a modern offense. He’s used multiple personnel groupings, utilized motion to scheme players open, and Keith Smith, the team’s fullback, has only played 15% of the offense’s snaps. Not quite what Gruden (perhaps with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek) sold in the offseason. Gruden’s roots are in the West Coast offense, having come up in Green Bay under Mike Holmgren. In the passing game, the focus is on quick throws (more on that later) and attacking up the seam. The biggest benefactor of this has been Jared Cook, who is on his way to career highs in catches, yards and touchdowns—more on him later, as well. Though Gruden once declared if he were to come back to the NFL, he would “never huddle again,” that hasn’t quite been the case. The Raiders sit around the middle of the pack in time of possession per drive (13th). On defense, Paul Guenther is in his first year as coordinator after serving in the same role for four years with the Bengals—and doing an admirable job. Obviously, Guenther was dealt about as devastating a blow as any coordinator could be when Khalil Mack was brainlessly traded just prior to the start of the season. And though Oakland has suffered as a result—they’re 31st in adjusted sack rate—Guenther has his defensive line one-gap and attack up field. Similar to Mike Zimmer, who preceded him in Cincinnati, Guenther loves to sugar the A-gaps with his linebackers and bring pressure up the middle. Seattle’s newfound stability inside with J.R. Sweezy, Justin Britt and D.J. Fluker will be important against Guenther’s defense. On the back end, Guenther’s defense is heavily rooted in zone coverage (cover-2), having used it on over 75% of plays in his final year with the Bengals. Numbers that Matter70: One of the most enjoyable parts of the season, at least for this writer, has been the slimmed down and motivated Marshawn Lynch. Having dropped back to 230 pounds after playing last year at 240, Lynch has played a central role for the Raiders through the first month of the season. At least while the game is close. Lynch has played 70 snaps while Oakland is either tied or in the lead, compared to 21 for Doug Martin and 10 for Jalen Richard in the same situation. When playing from behind, Lynch has played just 19 snaps, while Richard’s snaps increase to 23 and Martin’s drops to 10. Less than 10% of Lynch’s snaps in 2018 have come in the second half of games Authentic Jarran Reed Jersey , as his role has been made perfectly clear. As much as Gruden wants his team’s identity to be a punishing, running team that plays with a lead and wears teams down, their skill level hasn’t allowed for it. In what will surely be a bizarre and entirely wrong sight, expect Lynch to get a heavy workload in the first half against the Seahawks; if Seattle heads into the break ahead, don’t expect to see much of him at all afterwards. 14.8: Oh Derek Carr. He didn’t have to say anything, but when Lynch joined the Raiders in 2017, he couldn’t help himself. Infamously, Carr said he would give it to Lynch on the one-yard line, rather than throw it. But, shockingly, last week Carr threw it on the one-yard line, which resulted in a hideous interception. Carr’s interception against the Chargers was representative of a bigger issue in 2018. Since his rookie season, Carr’s red zone QBR has steadily dropped year-after-year, and so far this season it sits at an ugly 14.8. The interception he threw against L.A. was his second red zone pass intercepted this year, on 37 attempts. Despite Carr’s struggles in the red zone, if they’re playing from behind on Sunday, they may have no choice but to put the ball in the air with Lynch remaining on the sideline. 151.6: In last week’s Friday Rundown, we finally discussed Russell Wilson’s play-action excellence in 2018. Two days later, Wilson was again excellent off play-action, though it remained underused in the Seahawks’ offense. Regardless of the situation on Sunday, play-action would be hugely helpful in slowing down a defensive front that will consistently try to knife through gaps and attack. 87.5: Returning from injury in Week 5, Chris Carson was excellent against the Rams, rushing for 116 yards on over six yards per carry. Carson’s performance was simply the latest in what has been an extremely consistent season. Of Carson’s 64 carries on the season, 56 have gained positive yardage. 87.5% of carries resulting in a gain is the second-highest mark in the league among backs with 50 or more carries (Kerryon Johnson leads the NFL at 88%). Now, Carson will face an Oakland defense allowing the fifth most rushing yards per game. Additionally, the Raiders are 24th both in run defense by DVOA, and in yards from scrimmage per game allowed to the position. Once again Carson will be leaned on by Pete Carroll and Seattle Youth Nick Vannett Jersey , and this time it will be against one of the league’s weakest run defenses. Matchups to WatchDerek Carr versus pressure: Just over a year ago, Carr suffered a fracture in his vertebrae and missed one game before returning. However, the impact of the injury remains an issue for Carr. Since returning, Carr has appeared skittish in the pocket and avoids contact at all costs. When pressured, Carr has a passer rating of 31.9, the fifth lowest in the NFL. Against the blitz, Carr’s passer rating is fifth bottom as well, at a better-but-still-bad 66.8. Any hint of pressure will lead to Carr making poor decisions, or simply throwing it away in an ugly manner. Through five weeks, Carr and Oakland are third in the NFL in passes of five yards or less. Some of that is a product of Gruden’s offense, but some of it comes down to Carr forcing the ball out quickly. Among quarterbacks who have started multiple games in 2018, Carr has the fourth quickest time to throw. If the Seahawks can create pressure—or even the allusion of pressure—on Sunday against the Raiders, they can force Carr into making bad decisions. Or, at the very least, he’ll simply throw a duck into the sideline. Jared Cook versus Seattle’s middle of field defense: As previously mentioned, Cook has been one of the biggest benefactors of Gruden’s return to coaching. Cook’s importance to the offense was made immediately known in Week 1, when he put together a ridiculous 180-yard game against the Rams. As the season has gone on, Gruden and Oakland have continued to lean on Cook and their tight ends. After five games, 26.69% of the Raiders’ passing yards have gone to tight ends. That’s the ninth highest mark in the NFL, and well above the league’s average (20.64%). Oakland targets the middle of the field often and as a result, Cook’s production has ballooned. His 41 targets is fourth among tight ends in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, have fixed the tight end issues that have plagued them in recent seasons. Some of it can be credited to their use of big nickel packages early in the season, and, well, they haven’t exactly faced elite tight ends: Jeff Heuerman, Trey Burton 4Justin Britt Jersey , Geoff Swaim, Ricky Seals-Jones and Tyler Higbee. On the season, Seattle’s allowed 17.76% of their receptions to tight ends—11th in the NFL and about 3% lower than the league average. Though Cook isn’t a particularly strong test, his role in the Raiders’ offense will test the Seahawks’ defense. He will be targeted, but Seattle should be up to the test. Opponent to KnowBrandon Parker, RT: Parker, a third round pick out of North Carolina AT&T by Oakland in this past spring’s draft, made his first career start last week. The Raiders’ plan to redshirt Parker in 2018 had to be scrapped when Donald Penn was lost for the season, and Parker’s debut showed why they wanted to sit him as a rookie, giving up two pressures, a QB hit and being flagged for a false start. However, Parker was one of my favorite offensive linemen at the Senior Bowl, and someone I thought the Seahawks may target—my pro comparison for him was Duane Brown. Parker is an absolute mountain of a man and technically sound as a pass blocker, though prone to losing against inside counter-moves. He’s extremely powerful as a run blocker, and the biggest question surrounding him as a prospect was his level of competition. As high as I am on Parker’s pro prospects, there is of course a possibility he is a disaster against Seattle. After all, he is a rookie tackle making his second career start. Our own Mookie Alexander already covered the favorable matchup the Seahawks’ defense finds itself in against a depleted Oakland offensive line. At the same time, don’t be surprised to see an enormous No. 75 engulfing Seattle pass rushers on a few snaps, either. The Seahawks, regardless of their perceived struggles this season, are much better than the Raiders. However, games in London often lead to bizarre results. Seattle’s Week 6 matchup is a difficult one to read, but the Seahawks should be expected to get back to .500 (and 1-0 in England!) this week.

Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Jets fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse. How confident are you in the direction of the team?Last week I noted how the high rate of Jets fan confidence had barely budged after the Jets lost to Miami. I wondered whether a second loss would change things at all. The results are in, and the answer is a resounding, “Yes!”Fan confidence was cut in half this week. Before Week 3 Youth Nathan Shepherd Jersey , 87% of Jets fans said they were confident in the team. That number fell all the way to 43% this week. Handing the Browns their first win in over 600 days has a way of painting a bleak picture. To what extent would a surprise road against Jacksonville turn things around? We will have to wait and see. As we look back on another Jets loss, it is time to hand out the Week 10 anti-game ball.Frequently this year I have foregone handing out an anti-game ball to one player and instead focused on one unit. When the Jets lose, it seems like there is a systemic catastrophe that goes beyond one player.Sunday’s pathetic effort was team-wide. The entire organization deserves the anti-game ball from the owner down. I know plenty of people will want to give the anti-game ball simply to the coaches, but let’s not let anybody off the hook here. The coaches deserve their share of the anti-game ball, but this was a team-wide catastrophe. On the first play of the game Youth Leonard Williams Jersey , the Jets’ highest paid player was soundly beaten by a wide receiver who had just been signed off the practice squad. Let’s take a spin around the AFC South.Titans 20, Dolphins 27A brutal game that I hope no one stayed for in it’s duration. There were multiple hours-long weather delays and in total I think it lasted around nine hours. Could you imagine? Not only that, the Titans were ravaged with injuries, while also playing terribly. Tight end Delanie Walker saw his season end with a nasty ankle injury, Taylor Lewan was brutally knocked unconscious and left the game and Marcus Mariota is either very hurt or got benched after not being able to hit the ocean from the beach.Texans 20, Patriots 27Meanwhile in Foxboro, the Texans didn’t look anything close to the “surprise” dark horse team a lot of experts had them pegged as. While I’m still a big fan of Deshaun Watson as a quarterback Cheap Jalen Ramsey Jersey , he was under duress and beat up all day. The Patriots, who aren’t really a great team rushing the passer, were in the backfield all game and the Texans lost their starting right tackle making an already suspect offensive line worse. Couple that with the defense not playing all that well and J.J. Watt kind of looking like just a guy, it could be a long season for Houston.Bengals 34, Colts 23The Colts were only surprising because I did not expect Andrew Luck to ever play again as well as he did, considering his injuries. Unfortunately for the Colts, he might get knocked out again this year because they’re offensive line and roster in general are flat out terrible. The Colts couldn’t run the ball, struggled to stop the run and needed Luck to throw the ball 53 times to even be close! If I’m going to making a hyperbolic opinion off of Week 1 Cheap Leonard Fournette Jersey , I think it would be that there’s a big gap between the Jaguars and the rest of the division right now. Last week the Jaguars couldn’t move the ball into the opponent’s red zone, as quarterback Blake Bortles and the offense looked like a casting call from “The Walking Dead”. It was a different story this afternoon, however, as Bortles put the offense on his back for a majority of the game and led multiple scoring drives, propelling the Jaguars to a 31-12 win over the visiting New York Jets at TIAA Bank Field.Bortles passed for a career-high 388 yards and 2 touchdowns with a 121 quarterback rating, and wide receivers Donte Moncrief and Dede Westbrook each surpassed 100 yards receiving on the day. The highlight of the passing attack, being a 67 yard bomb for a touchdown from Bortles to Moncrief. The aerial attack was sorely needed, as the Jaguars lost star running back Leonard Fournette Cheap A. J. Cann Jersey , active for the first time since Week 1, to a reaggrevation of the same hamstring injury that kept him out the previous two weeks. The team also lost center Brandon Linder early to what was described as a back injury. The injury to Linder leaves the team very thinned out along the offensive line, with left tackle Cam Robinson already out for the season and guard AJ Cann and Jeremy Parnell already battling injuries, though both played the entirety of the game. The defense shut down the rookie quarterback Sam Darnold and the Jets offense for the most part, which included a rare safety scored for the Jags when Marcell Dareus and Calais Campbell stuffed running back Isaiah Crowell in the end zone. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and tackle Malik Jackson attributed for two of the team’s five recorded sacks. The win moves the Jaguars to 3-1 for the first time since 2007, and now sets up a marquee match up next week with the Kansas City Chiefs.

They are ignoring the porous and mistake-prone defense that gives up just as many explosive plays. If the Broncos defense can come out and generate pressure on Mahomes and keep the intensity high despite some of the big plays the Chiefs will get, then that should keep the game within striking distance for Case Keenum and the Broncos offense. Many of us are worried the Broncos are not a very good football team and this game will either confirm our fears or allay them. Isaiah Crowell went 77 yards for a touchdown a play after the Jets defense forced a punt to get the team on the board and Robby Anderson gave them the lead.Anderson ran past cornerback Bradley Roby and Sam Darnold dropped the ball into his hands for a 76-yard yard touchdown that is the longest of Darnold’s brief career. Anderson also scored on a deep ball in Week One, but had just seven catches for 67 yards over the last three weeks.Leonard Williams sacked Keenum on third down to force the punt that led to that second scoring drive. The Broncos have punted three times and scored their lone touchdown after a Bilal Powell fumble set them up with a short field.

But to better understand the context of the year that Wilson is having, his first under an offensive coordinator who is not Darrell Bevell, we should review the seven game starts he had prior to Brian Schottenheimer’s arrival with the Seattle Seahawks.Wilson through seven games in 2012:104-of-175, 1,230 yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, 79.5 rating, 14 sacks, 35 carries for 119 yards.Wilson through seven games in 2013:115-of-187, 1,489 yards, 11 touchdowns, four interceptions, 97.2 rating, 20 sacks, 58 carries for 323 yardsWilson through seven games in 2014:135-of-207, 1,490 yards, 11 touchdowns, three interceptions, 98.1 rating, 15 sacks Youth Bobby Wagner Jersey , 7.2 Y/A, 44 carries for 362 yardsWilson through seven games in 2015:142-of-204, 1,668 yards, eight touchdowns, five interceptions, 97 rating, 31 sacks, 8.18 Y/A, 52 carries for 271 yardsWilson through seven games in 2016:158-of-241, 1,812 yards, five touchdowns, two interceptions, 91.5 rating, 12 sacks, 7.52 Y/A, 25 carries for 44 yardsWilson through seven games in 2017:164-of-258, 2,008 yards, 15 touchdowns, four interceptions, 100.4 rating http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-russell-wilson-jersey , 16 sacks, 7.78 Y/A, 36 carries for 194 yards, one touchdownAs you can see, Wilson’s attempts through seven games went up every year other than 2015, when he dipped by three attempts. Over the course of the whole season, his pass attempts have gone up successively since year one, topping out at 553 attempts in 2017, his first without a playoff berth. Utilizing Wilson as a rushing threat peaked in 2014 (118 carries, 849 yards), but he still had 95 attempts and 586 yards last year. That’s not going to happen in 2018, but Wilson is still on pace to have the best season of his career as a passer. It turns out that “Wilson needs to be a dual threat to be effective” is yet another Wilson myth that needs to be dispelled.Wilson through seven games in 2018:120-of-182, 1,556 yards, 16 touchdowns, four interceptions, 112.8 rating, 21 sacks, 8.55 Y/A, 19 carries for 77 yardsWilson passed for more yards through seven games in each of the last three years, including almost 33% more in 2017, but he’s not being asked to pass it nearly as much and his efficiency per pass has gone from 7.8 Y/A to 8.5 Y/A. He’s thrown 16 touchdowns (tying Dave Krieg for most touchdown passes by a Seattle QB through seven games) on 76 fewer attempts than he had in 2017. He’s one of the top rated passers in the pocket. He’s one of the top rated passers outside of the pocket. He’s maybe the best passer in the league on play action.Yes, Russell Wilson is good and historically 12th Fan Jersey , he’s always gotten better as the season goes on.He’s good with Bevell. He’s good with Schottenheimer. He’s good with Paul Richardson. He’s good with David Moore. He’s good with Jimmy Graham. He’s good with Will Dissly or Ed Dickson or Nick Vannett or Tyrone Swoopes. He’s good with Marshawn Lynch. He’s good with Chris Carson. He’s good when the defense has the Legion of Boom. He’s good when the defense has literally none of those guys. The only variable that has not been removed or replaced at this point is Carroll. And I imagine that for awhile after Carroll opts to leave, Wilson will still be good. People may still deny it or make excuses to the contrary, but it won’t really matter ... Russell Wilson will still be good. The Seattle Seahawks returned from their bye week on Monday and with the team came a couple roster moves. Safety T.J. Green, signed earlier this month, was placed on the exempt list without having played a single snap for the team. Speaking to the media on Monday afternoon, Pete Carroll explained Green was done with football and intends to retire. Green, drafted in the second round in the 2016 NFL Draft, was released from the Indianapolis Colts’ injured reserve in September after suffering a hamstring injury. The reasons for Green’s retirement are unknown. Taking Green’s place on the Seahawks’ roster is linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee, who was waived by the Los Angeles Chargers. An undrafted free agent in 2018, Ellerbee spent time in training camp with the Falcons before arriving in Los Angeles. As the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta points out, the rookie should be familiar with Carroll’s defense, having played under Dan Quinn and Gus Bradley already. As they returned from the bye week, Seattle had a few injured players return as well. K.J. Wright, Nick Vannett, Ed Dickson and Rasheem Green all practiced on Monday. Dickson is now eligible to be added to the Seahawks’ 53-man roster, a move which will require someone else to be released. Finally, Mychal Kendricks, who continues to fight his suspension, reportedly met with the NFL on Monday in a planned meeting. Though Seattle looks to be set to get Wright back in Week 8, Kendricks played well in his limited time and would be a welcome addition down the stretch for the Seahawks.

John Elway and the Denver Broncos rocked

Broncos Country with the news that wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was being traded for essentially a fourth round pick to the Houston Texans on Tuesday prior to the NFL Trade Deadline. With Thomas Customized Denver Broncos Jerseys , 30, nearing the end of his contract and on the wrong side of 30, Elway decided there was value in dealing a player who will likely end up in the franchises Ring of Fame someday. That decision was partly due to the emergence of rookie standout Courtland Sutton who is quickly coming into this own after just eight games in the NFL.“I think that they’ve all—Courtland’s played very, very well,” Elway said when asked about Sutton. “Tim Patrick played very well last week. Emmanuel is obviously playing very well, too. We thought that this would give Courtland a chance to get out there, play more and become a bigger part of it because we think he’s ready to go. He’s played well up to this point in time. Hopefully this accelerates his maturity.”However, the player that sealed the deal and the decision to move on from Thomas came down to his partner in crime on the field, Emmanuel Sanders.“We leave Emmanuel out, he’s had a great year,” Elway said. “He’s played hard, he competes, he’s tough and a great competitor. What he’s done has also made this decision easier.”Sanders, 31, is the real star in 2018. He has three 100-yard receiving games so far this season and has amassed 50 receptions for 660 yards and 3 touchdowns in eight games this year. Easily eclipsing Thomas’ production of 36 receptions for 402 yards and three scores. Rookie Sutton http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/bradley-chubb-jersey , already has 17 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns this season and figures to see his role expand exponentially moving forward. Hopefully it translates to more production on the field for the Broncos offense as reps will now be more evened out among a core of starters.Broncos vs Bears: 6 winners, 3 losers from second preseason game Yes, this is only the second preseason game, but the pressure was apparent. That sounds like hyperbole to say this early, but this time of the NFL season is all about habits and trends — good or bad. The Denver Broncos had the chance on Saturday night to show what they put on the field against the Minnesota Vikings last week would not become more than a bad game. It is only the second preseason game, but mission accomplished against the Chicago Bears. There were way more winners than losers, even in the Broncos 24-23 loss. WinnersPhillip Lindsay The undrafted free agent, fan favorite was all over the field. He showed the play-making ability as a running back, showed hints of the weapon he could be as a punt returner and was even in on a special teams tackle. One of the best ways for a young player to stand out is to do what Lindsay did against the Bears. If he didn’t Sharpie his name onto Denver’s roster, I don’t know what else he could do. Courtland Sutton Man, oh, man. For all we didn’t see out of the rookie receiver against the Vikings, Sutton and the Broncos more than made up for it on Saturday. He drew a 45-yard pass interference penalty on third down and caught a 16-yard bullet for a touchdown from Chad Kelly. Both plays exhibit the weapon Sutton could be in this offense. And the fact the Broncos were so aggressive on the play that drew the penalty is huge for this offense. You can add DaeSean Hamilton to this as well. When he and Case Keenum get their timing down, that slight overthrow in the south endzone in the first quarter is a touchdown.Kelly In his first test to become Denver’s backup quarterback, he passed in flying colors. Kelly finished the night 7-of-9 for 90 yards and a touchdown. He carried over the swag he brought to the offense and a buzz to the game.At the very least Womens Bradley Chubb Jersey , Kelly got the attention of the coaches and John Elway. The key is to remain consistent and get even better. If he does that in the all-important third preseason game, Kelly is the backup. Bradley ChubbWe got a taste of what the Orange Rush will do this season when Chubb got his first sack in the NFL, which resulted in a safety. If that play doesn’t give you all the feels of what he and Von Miller will do to quarterbacks this season, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s also the latest indication fans need to get and rock this awesome Orange Rush shirt.DeMarcus Walker We all know about the Orange Rush, but Walker may be the most important player on the defense this. If he’s able to get consistent pressure from the interior of the defensive line, that makes the outside rush even better. Think back to the Broncos defense that led to the Super Bowl 50 win with Malik Jackson. If Walker is consistent, he’ll have a huge impact for this defense. First-team offense/defenseComing into the game, I wanted to see sustained drives that ended with points and rhythm from the offense. On defense, make adjustments on run defense/limit big plays. Definitely positive developments and steps in the right direction.Losers Will Parks For nothing else than getting injured. The good news is he was walking on his own on the sideline, and Vance Joseph said after the game that it was just a contusion. No structural damage.Paxton Lynch Was else is there to say? It’s so bad for him he got booed when he took the field. Elway and the Broncos need to move on. At this point, it’s better for all involved. Isaiah McKenzieAfter what he showed in the first preseason game, this is tough. Yes, he was fighting for more yards and tried to make something happen, but any fumble by a guy who has issues holding onto the ball is never good for confidence. The key is how McKenzie responds after such a strong start.

Week 4 of the 2018 NFL season continues

with a handful of somewhat uninspiring late afternoon games. If you’re in the New York metropolitan area the 1-2 New York Giants take on the 2-1 New Orleans Saints in a game that could feature some offensive fireworks Womens Isaiah Crowell Jersey , with plenty of star power at the skill positions on both sides. Elsewhere the 1-2 San Francisco 49ers, sans star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, meet the 1-2 perennially under-performing Los Angeles Chargers in a left coast battle, the 1-1-1 Cleveland Browns try to string together two wins for the first time since Moses parted the Red Sea against the winless Oakland Raiders (isn’t it weird to have a Browns game where the opponent is the only winless team?), and the declining 1-2 Seattle Seahawks take on the 0-3 Arizona Cardinals in the first start of the Josh Rosen era in Arizona. For those keeping track at home that’s a grand total of one .500+ team in the four late games today. Ugh. Enjoy the games everybody. Use this thread to call ‘em as you see ‘em.Jets Helmet Stickers: Week 4 Yet another hard to watch game, yet another week where finding good performances in the muck is a challenge. On days like these, it would be easier to take stars away than give them out, but here we are. Let’s look at some solid performances and try to wash the taste out before what could be a tough Sunday against a decent Broncos team:Bronze Star: WR Quincy Enunwa (4 receptions for 66 yards)There really weren’t many players to put in this slot. Even with his stupid penalty Womens Avery Williamson Jersey , I have to give Enunwa credit for making some plays in an otherwise abysmal offensive performance. The Jaguars may have the best defense in the league and are especially strong against the pass, with probably the best 1-2 punch in the league at cornerback (maybe a healthy Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters could be in the conversation.) Enunwa got solid blocking on some short passes and turned them into big gains. That’s more than I can really say for anyone else on this offense.Silver Star: S Jamal Adams (12 tackles)Despite a lot of pass coverage breakdowns, I was still impressed by Adams’ ability to fly around a football field. After failing to stop the Jaguars even once in the first half, Adams singlehandedly stopped the Jags first possession in the second half by accounting for all 3 tackles. That is the sort of playmaking ability that the Jets were looking for when they took him sixth overall last year. I’m excited by the growth he’s shown this season and I hope he continues to develop into a perennial Pro Bowl player and defensive leader.Gold Star: DL Henry Anderson (3 tackles, 1 sack, 2 PDs)Anderson has been one of the bright spots of this team in a rough start. Despite playing a position that doesn’t rack up stats and results in a lot of substitutions, he’s compiled 2.5 sacks, several tackles for a loss Youth Brian Winters Jersey , and a few batted balls. Despite the team forcing 3 turnovers, he’s the only player I can say played a full game and made the most of all of his snaps. Despite his perceived limitations when it comes to staying healthy and rushing the passer, he’s managed to project for 16 games and 10 sacks this year, which has to make everyone rooting for the Jets pretty pleased thus far. He’s been close in all his games and he finally makes the list at the top billing. So there you have it, four weeks in and the table stands:Jamal Adams 5 points (2 silver, 1 bronze)Quincy Enunwa 4 points (1 gold, 1 bronze)Darron Lee 4 points (2 silver)Henry Anderson 3 points (1 gold)Avery Williamson 3 points (1 gold)Andre Roberts 3 points (1 gold)Bilal Powell 2 points (2 bronze)

Back in a time where being a coach for the Seattle Seahawks

under Pete Carroll used to mean something Authentic Quinton Jefferson Jersey , Ken Norton, Jr. was hired away by Jack Del Rio to be the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders in 2015. Norton had spent 11 years with Carroll, including the previous five for the Seahawks as linebackers coach under Gus Bradley and Dan Quinn, with back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. When Quinn left after Seattle’s second straight season of winning the conference, Carroll hired Kris Richard to take over as defensive coordinator, while Norton went to the Raiders. The two assistants saw their paths take different directions from that point forward, but now as things have come full circle, Norton suddenly looks to be “ahead” of his longtime colleague with USC and the Seahawks. But really isn’t just about timing and talent?Oakland went 3-13 and finished 32nd in points allowed in 2014, which is why they fired Dennis Allen (and replacement Tony Sparano), and hired Del Rio. That’s where Norton came in and he helped the Raiders improve to 22nd in points allowed, with 16 more sacks than they had the year before, and a notably better pass defense. All because of Norton, right?Probably a lot more to do with second-year linebacker Khalil Mack actually, who went from three sacks to 15. And as we’ve seen, Mack doesn’t need a certain coach in order to be productive. Not that the Raiders had a super talented defense (Charles Woodson, Aldon Smith Youth Tom Johnson Jersey , Malcolm Smith, David Amerson, Dan Williams, Mario Edwards), but they also weren’t super good. They were just a little better. Then they weren’t.Then in September of 2016, Del Rio reportedly took playcalling away from Norton following a terrible start to the season by the defense; they gave up over 1,000 yards over the first two games. They stopped giving up 500 yards per game, but the Oakland defense was still among the worst in the NFL, even after adding Bruce Irvin and Reggie Nelson, probably because many other starters were still very bad. The Raiders finished dead last in net yards per pass attempt allowed. They did go 12-4, but lost badly in the first round of the playoffs. Maybe it’s a different story if not for Derek Carr’s broken leg, but the defense still stood no shot of helping them through that gauntlet. After a 4-6 start last season, Oakland fired Norton, severing ties completely. They had forced just five turnovers in 10 games. He hit the open market as a coach who wasn’t good enough to even improve the Oakland Raiders defense. Not a good place to be in.Luckily enough, Carroll didn’t care about any of his Oakland issues. He knew Norton for over a decade and he knew that he had the talent for a good defense. Isn’t that really the majority of what you need?Richard had the Seahawks back at their number one ranking for scoring defense in 2015, getting through a bad wild card game in Minnesota before losing on the road to the Carolina Panthers; they gave up 31 first half points to the Panthers but a significant problem that day was incompetence by the offense and then Seattle shut Carolina down in the second half. The Seahawks were third in points allowed in 2016 http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-tre-flowers-jersey , including first in yards per carry allowed. Quarterbacks had a rating of just 85 against Seattle, with only 16 touchdown passes. The Seahawks held the Detroit Lions to six in a wild card win, but again lost badly on the road in the divisional round.Things finally took a downward turn in 2017, with Seattle finishing 13th in points allowed and surrendering 30+ five times. However, there was a significant change that year: No Cliff Avril for 12 games, no Richard Sherman or Kam Chancellor for seven, Earl Thomas missed two games and was recovering from a broken leg, K.J. Wright was out for the defense’s worst game in years. It was a lack of talent.Carroll decided to shake things up — this is more the cause for Richard’s firing than anything, I believe — and found his old friend on the coaching free agent market. Now where are the Seahawks, Richard, and Norton?Well, somewhat quietly Norton has certainly raised his stock, hasn’t he? Seattle is ninth in points allowed, seventh in yards allowed, fourth in net yards per pass attempt allowed, and has a top-10 ranking in DVOA again. What’s the difference between the 2018 Seahawks and all of his Raiders defenses that weren’t as good? Well Chris Carson Jersey , Oakland had Mack, and Seattle has had an actual defense. That obviously changes now with the injury to Thomas. And if the Seahawks’ pass defense gets worse week-to-week, we’ll know why. If Norton’s resume goes from “coached a top-10 defense” to “helped sink a top-10 defense,” it’ll be because he didn’t have as much talent to end the year as he did to start it. Norton may be a great coach — whatever that even means — but coaches are only as good as the talent that they can put on the field. Bill Belichick is famous for overturning players-not-named-Brady all the time, but less talked about is the decade he’s spent with Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung as his safeties. If the players work, they work. If they don’t, you’re out of a job.Richard is drawing praise for his work with the Dallas Cowboys secondary as an assistant there now, including the Pro Bowl-caliber season for Byron Jones at cornerback. Certainly Richard’s knowledge has something to do with that, but it would be for nothing if Jones wasn’t one an extremely special athlete with the capacity to play at this level. And eventually, Richard will get another chance as a defensive coordinator too, perhaps leading to a head coaching opportunity. His best way back there will be to continue to follow the talent.
