The Tennessee Titans need the extra day off before their next game both to allow injuries to heal and figure out what went wrong in their worst loss this season.Marcus Mariota is recovering from a stinger that knocked him out of the Titans' 38-10 loss to the Colts Alfred Blue Jersey White , not the elbow injury announced during the game. Coach Mike Vrabel said all tests were positive on defensive coordinator Dean Pees, who returned to Nashville on Monday. Pees spent a night in an Indianapolis hospital after an issue forced him from the coaches' box early in the game.Vrabel also said he is hopeful Mariota will play when the Titans visit Houston on Nov. 26 and Pees also will return to work, even his boss plans to limit the coordinator to banker's hours of 9 to 5."I just want to make sure that he's getting plenty of rest and that we're not rushing anything," Vrabel said. "We do have an extra day with the Monday night game."Whether Mariota misses his third start this season depends on how quickly he recovers from what Vrabel called a bad stinger with a hit to the head. Mariota was hurt when sacked for the fourth time late in the first half, and he did not return with what was announced as an injury to his elbow. Mariota was forced from the season opener after hurting his right elbow.Mariota was hit in the head, and Vrabel said the independent neurologist evaluated the quarterback and cleared Mariota."Like a lot of players, he got a bad stinger," Vrabel said. "So, we'll have to see where he's at."Vrabel said that may include Mariota getting a second opinion. Mariota did not speak to reporters after the game because he was receiving treatment, and the quarterback was not in the locker room Monday when it was open to the media. Vrabel said a stinger can leave some numbness down the arm, and Mariota dealt with some numbness in his fingers after his elbow injury. His coach hopes Mariota will be available against the Texans. Mariota missed the first game between these teams in Week 2, a 20-17 win by the Titans and backup Blaine Gabbert."We're hopeful that he'll check out and feel good enough to play on Monday," Vrabel said. "Just being less than 24 hours after the game, some of these things take a little bit of time to cool down and really just treat and diagnose."Vrabel said he told Pees, 69 Natrell Jamerson Jersey White , not to come to work once back in Nashville. Vrabel thanked the Colts and Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard for checking on Pees and his wife while the Titans flew home Sunday."Everything that would be really worrisome has been ruled out from the neurologist in Indy," Vrabel said. The Titans (5-5) have to figure out what went wrong against the Colts, a surprise after routing the Patriots 34-10 the week before. They now trail Houston (7-3) by two games in the AFC South, and this is the first of three games in an 11-day span for Tennessee. They host the Jets on Dec. 2 and then the Jaguars on Dec. 6.Vrabel said the Titans aren't finished yet this season."We're still in this race as bad as it was, and it was bad," Vrabel said of the loss to the Colts. "Put it all on me. I've lost five games and the players have won five. So, I have to do a better job of not losing them and they have to do a better job of winning them."Follow Teresa M. Walker at teresamwalker When DeAndre Hopkins had a chance to make a play in overtime on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, Houston's star receiver was intent on redeeming himself after losing a rare fumble in the third quarter. He did that with a spectacular 49-yard catch and run that got the Texans in scoring range, and Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 36-yard field goal to lift the Texans to a 19-16 win.Hopkins, who finished with 151 yards receiving, grabbed a short pass from Deshaun Watson and twice spun away from would-be tacklers to stretch the play."I fumbled, so I knew I had to make a play," Hopkins said. "There was a lot of guys downfield but I wasn't trying to go down easy. A field goal would win the game and I knew that. I knew where I was, and I felt guys coming around me."Coach Bill O'Brien said Hopkins approached him after the fumble and simply said: 'I'll make up for that.' Watson knew he would do that when he threw the ball his way."Playmakers make plays whenever we need him, and that was a situation where we needed him to make a play http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-d_onta-foreman-jersey ," Watson said. "I threw it up for him to make a play, and he did what he had to do."The Cowboys got the ball first in OT but had to punt when Zach Cunningham stopped Ezekiel Elliott for no gain on third-and-1. Coach Jason Garrett defended his decision not to go for it."We just felt like at that point in the game, the way our defense was playing, the idea was to pin them down there," he said.Houston was just 1 of 5 in the red zone on Sunday, with Fairbairn making four field goals to help the Texans to the victory. It is Houston's first win over the Cowboys (2-3) since the team's first game on Sept. 8, 2002, ending a three-game losing streak to Dallas. The Texans (2-3) did it in front of a franchise-record crowd of 72,008, which was peppered with plenty of Cowboys fans.Houston defensive end Jadeveon Clowney didn't realize the Texans hadn't beaten the Cowboys in 16 years, but did understand the importance of the victory."This is a big win, not just for us but for the city of Houston," he said. "Cowboys are America's No. 1 team. For us to go out there and win at home was very big for us. We needed that win."Deshaun Watson threw for 375 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Texans, who won in overtime for the second straight week.Dak Prescott had 208 yards passing and a touchdown but threw two interceptions for the Cowboys. Elliott, who entered the game as the NFL's leading rusher Womens Dylan Cole Jersey , was limited to 54 yards rushing."We just haven't gotten it going on offense," Prescott said. "I don't know if there's one thing you can pinpoint, but we've got to figure it out."The Texans were driving late in the fourth quarter when Xavier Woods intercepted Watson, who threw under heavy pressure, with 10 seconds left and returned it 15 yards to give Dallas the ball at its 47. Kareem Jackson nearly intercepted Prescott on the next play before his Hail Mary on the last play of regulation was knocked down in the end zone by receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who came in to play defense.A 27-yard pass interference call by Byron Jones on a ball intended for Hopkins got Houston to the 1-yard line in the third quarter. But two failed running plays followed by an incomplete pass forced another field goal which gave the Texans a 16-13 lead with about 8 1/2 minutes remaining. The Cowboys tied it up on a 48-yard field goal with less than six minutes left. That drive was highlighted by a 44-yard pass by Prescott to Tavon Austin that he made after escaping sacks by J.J. Watt, Brandon Dunn and Zach Cunningham.Prescott's second interception came when Johnathan Joseph broke up a pass and rookie Justin Reid caught it just before it hit the turf in the third quarter. The Texans drove to the 3-yard line on the ensuing possession before the drive stalled and Fairbairn kicked a 21-yard field goal to tie it at 13-13.Hopkins fumbled after a catch early in the third quarter and it was recovered by Jourdan Lewis and returned to the Houston 16. The Cowboys regained the lead when Prescott found Allen Hurns in the back of the end zone on a 3-yard touchdown pass that made it 13-10.The Texans drove to the 2-yard line later in the second but Watson's pass on third down fell incomplete and they settled for a 20-yard field goal to push the lead to 10-6.INJURIESHouston RB Lamar Miller, who dealt with a chest injury this week, was active but did not play. ... Texans CB Kayvon Webster left the game in the first quarter with a quadriceps injury and didn't return.COUTEE'S DANCEThe Texans took their first lead when rookie Keke Coutee, who made his debut last week, scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter. Coutee celebrated his first career touchdown with a dance called the Shiggy Challenge from a Drake song called "In My Feelings" which includes the line: "Kiki do you love me?"He had previously said he didn't like that song because he was tired of everyone singing it to him but seems to be past that now."I just gave the people what they wanted to see," he said with a laugh.UP NEXTCowboys: Host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.Texans: Host the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers ended Week 15 in 2017 being asked whether he would play the final two games. The Packers quarterback returned from a fractured collarbone in hopes of rescuing the team’s playoff hopes. When he didn’t Womens Za'Darius Smith Jersey , it seemed prudent to sit him. After Sunday’s Week 15 loss to the Bears, which eliminated the Packers’ postseason aspirations for this season, Rodgers was asked whether he wanted to play the final two games.“For sure,” he said in his postgame press conference.Rodgers has not played very Rodgers like this season. In the loss to the Bears, Rodgers went 25-of-42 for 274 yards and threw an interception, only his second of the season which ended a streak of 402 consecutive attempts without one.Rodgers was asked if he would have a problem with Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst wanting to see backup DeShone Kizer in the final two games.“Yeah, probably,” Rodgers said Bart Starr Jersey , smiling, before adding, “No, look, nobody’s talked to me about it. I want to play, though, so I’m expecting to start and play. In 2005, I remember [Brett] Farve came in late in the season and said Za'Darius Smith Jersey , ‘Well, you’re probably going to get a chance to play here.’ It didn’t happen. Now, Brett was 36, I think, at the time.“I’d like to be out there and lead us the last two weeks.” LOS ANGELES (AP) — Linebacker Clay Matthews agreed to a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, returning to his native Southern California after a decade with the Green Bay Packers. The 32-year-old Matthews set the Packers franchise record with 83½ sacks over his 10 seasons in Green Bay. The former USC star earned six Pro Bowl selections and won a Super Bowl ring with the Packers, although his 3½ sacks last season were a career low.Matthews went to high school in Agoura Hills, California Womens DeShone Kizer Jersey , and he lives in nearby Calabasas with his wife and growing family. Both towns are a short drive from the Rams’ training complex in Thousand Oaks northwest of downtown Los Angeles.Matthews will contribute to the Rams’ pass rush alongside All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald and linebacker Dante Fowler, who re-signed with the NFC champions earlier this month. Nose tackle Ndamukong Suh is still a free agent after his sole season with Los Angeles.Matthews played four seasons for the Trojans at the Coliseum, where the Rams will play next season before moving into their multibillion-dollar stadium complex in Inglewood in 2020.Matthews won four Pac-12 titles and three Rose Bowls at USC. He famously walked onto Pete Carroll’s roster and redshirted on the Trojans’ last national championship squad before growing into a first-round NFL pick. The Rams released starting linebacker Mark Barron earlier this month, creating additional opportunities for Matthews.Matthews joins veteran safety Eric Weddle and backup quarterback Blake Bortles in the Rams’ compact class of free-agent signings.

EDTShareTweetShareShareSunday open thread: What was your best NFL Draft prediction?Jerry Lai-USA TODAY SportsOn Saturday, we all repented and confessed our most shameful NFL Draft misses. Plenty of people modestly admitted some of the draft scouting mistakes they’ve made in the past. Poor Aaron Curry lovers faced the music yesterday and offered us a reminder of just how bad we can all be at this prediction stuff. But now you’ve all earned yourself some gloating time. Now it’s time to go to the other end of the spectrum. Strut your stuff, because there is nothing better than pounding the table for someone—especially when everyone else is calling you an idiot—and to have your opinion proven true on draft day and beyond. So today’s Question of the Day is:What NFL Draft prediction/scouting report did you absolutely nail? My answer: I’ll admit that when I do my draft prep, I try not to get too high or low on a guy, and I’d rather do the grunt work of the research after the picks were made. That being said, I occasionally still fall in love with a player. Back in 2014, it was Anthony Barr. His college film was flashy Luke Willson Jersey White , his production was outstanding, and the rumors of his character were nearly flawless. But there were certainly some risks involved. When I chose Barr for the Lions in the Community Mock Draft (yes, I skipped over Aaron Donald, too), y’all let me know in the comment section. It was too early. Mike Evans was the easy pick here. He won’t make an immediate impact. One-trick pony. You can go get Kyle Van Noy in the second (That’s an actual comment here). In reality, Barr ended up going before the Lions were even on the clock. He made a big impact in his rookie year (12 starts, 70 tackles http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-kenny-golladay-jersey , 4.0 sacks). He’s lived up to his draft status (four Pro Bowls). And he’s anything but a one-trick pony. He’s managed to earn the reputation of being one of the best off-ball linebacker without gaudy sack numbers (13.5 in five years). Barr isn’t your annual All Pro player that is recognized as one of the best to ever play the game or anything, but he’s a solid player that was well worth the Vikings’ ninth overall pick. He remains one of my biggest draft “wins.”Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions boosted their chances of slowing down Seattle’s running game and contending in the NFC North with one major move.Lions general manager Bob Quinn acquired Damon “Snacks” Harrison from the New York Giants for a fifth-round pick, adding one of the NFL’s top interior defensive linemen to help right away. He began practicing with his new team Thursday.“It shows we want to win now,” Detroit defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois said. “Bob is always up to something. He’s not trying to win later, or to rebuild.”The timing seems perfect for the Lions, who host the Seahawks on Sunday. Seattle has emerged as one of the NFL’s best running teams, helping it win three of four after losing the first two games of the season. The Lions have been one of the league’s worst against the run Womens Calvin Johnson Jersey , and yet have overcome the weakness well enough to also win three of four after starting 0-2.Suddenly, Detroit’s defense got better on the ground thanks to the 6-foot-5, 355-pound Harrison.“Snacks has been a big-timer for a long time,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “Big presence. Really good in the running game and disruptive in the pass rush, too.“So, it’s a great get for them.”Here are some other things to know about a matchup of 3-3 teams at Ford Field:SPREAD THE WEALTHCarroll has made clear Chris Carson will be the starting running back. That does not guarantee Carson will get the vast majority of the carries because Mike Davis and Rashaad Penny also merit playing time.Carson is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and has two 100-yard games. Davis also has a 100-yard game and is averaging 4.6 yards per carry, and leads the team with three rushing touchdowns. Penny ran for nearly five yards per carry in limited action in Seattle’s last game against Oakland and is getting six-plus rushing attempts per game.Even with quarterback Russell Wilson carrying the ball just a few times per game on average Zach Zenner Jersey White , Seattle ranks seventh in the league in rushing with 127.8 yards per game.Detroit, in the pre-Harrison average, gave up 139.3 yards rusher per game to rank No. 30 against the run.EFFICENT SCORINGDetroit tight end Michael Roberts is tied for the team lead with three touchdown receptions. That’s quite a feat considering he has caught just four passes, on four targets, in the three games he has been healthy enough to play in his second season. The Lions drafted Roberts in the fourth round last year after he led the nation in touchdowns by tight ends, scoring 16 at Toledo.“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t control the red zone in college, and I’m doing what they brought me here to do Womens Matt Prater Jersey ,” Roberts said.BYE BACKThe off week appeared to fall at a good time for the Seahawks. They are expected to have linebacker K.J. Wright and tight end Ed Dickson on the field for the first time this season. Wright has been out since having knee surgery following the third preseason game. Dickson missed all of training camp and the first six games with upper leg injuries that landed him on the non-football injury list.Seattle found capable replacements for Wright in Barkevious Mingo and Austin Calitro. Dickson’s return should boost a position group that’s seen attrition with Will Dissly’s season-ending knee injury and Nick Vannett’s lingering back problems.Seattle also should have rookie defensive lineman Rasheem Green back after missing three weeks due to a lingering ankle injury.WHAT A RUSHThe Lions are No. 11 in rushing offense, averaging 122.3 yards, a dramatic improvement from ranking last in 2017. Rookie Kerryon Johnson ran for a career-high 158 yards in last week’s win at Miami, taking advantage of holes created by the improved offensive line.“We have to build upon the good performances because nobody will care if we aren’t consistent,” offensive tackle Taylor Decker said. “Our improved running game has taken the wind out of the sails of pass rushers. We’re making them play the run and the physical play can wear those pass rushers out eventually.”MICHIGAN MANSeattle defensive end Frank Clark set career highs with 2 ½ sacks and two forced fumbles in the last game, a 27-3 win at Oakland. He earned NFC defensive player of the week honors for the performance that was made even more impressive because he missed much of the second half when he was sick.

It’s believed in league circles that the next coach of the Bengals will be Hue Jackson (with Vance Joseph as defensive coordinator) or Vance Joseph (with Hue Jackson as offensive coordinator). So why not really shake things up and do something completely different? At one point Hardy Nickerson Jersey , Michael Scott and Jim Halpert were co-managers of Dunder Mifflin, Scranton branch.聽Maybe that’s the right answer for the perpetually wrongly-directed Bengals, as crazy as it may sound. (And, yes, it sounds crazy.)But it’s not unprecedented. In 1953, the Packers had co-head coaches. (Sure, it lasted only for the last two games of the season.) Ten years before that, the merged Steelers and Eagles franchise (the Steagles) employed both Walt Kiesling and Greasy Neale as co-head coaches. Why not make Jackson the head coach/offense and Joseph the head coach/defense? Give one guy responsibility for each side of the ball, let the special-teams coordinator report to both of them, and see what happens?Jackson would call the offensive plays http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-shawn-williams-jersey , and Joseph would support Jackson with broader topics like clock management. Joseph would call the defensive plays, and Jackson would support Joseph.I’m mostly joking, but a little serious. If neither guy is able to thrive in the job alone, why not split the job in two? With both guys operating under the terms of a buyout for at least the next season, the Bengals possibly get them to do it for the total cost of one total head coach.Again, it’s crazy. It’s over the top. It’s one the wrong side of the fine line that separates outside the box from f–kin’ nutty. But ask yourself this. A week ago, which possibility would have sounded more ridiculous, entrusting an NFL franchise to two men with NFL head-coaching experience (and the contacts to fill out a staff) or hiring as an NFL head-coach a guy who has no NFL coaching experience, who has precious few NFL coaching contacts, who went 35-40 at Texas Tech Womens Dre Kirkpatrick Jersey , who got fired from that job in November, and who quickly took a job as offensive coordinator at USC in December? CINCINNATI (AP) — The desperation was evident when coach Marvin Lewis fired his defensive coordinator and installed himself in the role the rest of the way.Another season was slipping away. There was no more time to lose.“Game day will be different for me,” Lewis said three weeks ago. “It will be a different approach, and it’ll be fun.”No fun. No victories. And now, virtually no hope. The Bengals (5-7) have unraveled the past three games, allowing more than 200 yards rushing twice while dropping all three and falling out of contention. A season that started with raised hopes at 4-1 has crashed with six losses in the past seven games. It’s their worst stretch of losing since they dropped 10 straight in 2010.And there’s no reason to think it’ll get much better in the final four games. The Bengals lost quarterback Andy Dalton to a torn ligament in his passing thumb a week ago. Receiver A.J. Green returned from a toe injury that sidelined him for three games, but aggravated it in the second quarter of a 24-10 loss to the Broncos on Sunday, likely ending his season. The offense is missing its best players and the defense is still getting flattened with Lewis and special assistant Hue Jackson calling the shots in place of fired coordinator Teryl Austin. The Broncos ran for 218 yards , the fourth time this season that Cincinnati has given up at least 200 yards rushing — a shocking statistic. The Bengals also gave up 198 yards rushing by Kansas City. It’s only the fourth time in franchise history that they’ve allowed four 200-yard games in the regular season. The club record is six allowed in 1969, their second season as an expansion team.Next up is a game on the West Coast against the Chargers (9-3) Darqueze Dennard Jersey , who rallied for a 33-30 win in Pittsburgh on Sunday night. The Bengals then host the Raiders (2-10). The finish with road games at Cleveland (4-7-1), which got four TD passes from Baker Mayfield in a 35-20 victory on Nov. 25 , and at Pittsburgh, which won 28-21 at Paul Brown Stadium on Oct. 14.The only intrigue left is how owner Mike Brown reacts to the latest debacle. The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season, the sixth-longest streak of futility in NFL history.Lewis has gotten the Bengals into the playoffs seven times during his 16 seasons, and has lost in the first round every time for the worst postseason coaching mark in league history. There were indications that Lewis’ stay in Cincinnati was ending last season when the Bengals got drubbed by the Bears and Vikings in successive weeks, dropping them to 5-9.Even Lewis was noncommittal at that point about whether he’d be back. The Bengals won their final two games, and Brown — who has a deep aversion to change — decided that was good enough reason to give Lewis a contract extension. This time, Brown could use the team’s injuries as cover for keeping Lewis in place if he wants to do so, although they still must find a defensive coordinator and figure out where special assistant Hue Jackson fits into next year’s plans. The Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy after a 20-17 loss to Arizona on Sunday left them 4-7-1. Brown always waits until the end of the season to decide next year’s plans Randy Bullock Jersey White , so Lewis is safe until at least then. Lewis said Monday he’s had no discussion with Brown about the future.“The least of my worries,” he said.Players understand that all the talk about turning the season around has become irrelevant.“At some point, it’s not even about that,” receiver Alex Erickson said. “It’s up to you to perform. If you don’t, obviously there are going to be consequences.”

Sam Darnold nearly pulled off another one.Six days after leading the New York Jets to the first fourth-quarter comeback victory of his young career Womens Tyler Ervin Jersey , the rookie quarterback almost did it again 鈥?falling just shy in a 29-22 loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday night."To go out there against a good Texans team, it would've been awesome to be able to get that win," Darnold said, "but we just came up short."Things looked promising after Darnold and the Jets (4-10) took their first lead of the game on Elijah McGuire's 2-yard touchdown run with just 5 minutes left. The No. 3 overall pick made plays with his arm and legs during the impressive 15-play, 73-yard go-ahead drive as he converted three third-down plays and a fourth-down opportunity."He played a gritty ballgame," coach Todd Bowles said. "He played tough and made some throws."On third-and-10 from the 19, Darnold took off for 14 yards 鈥?and a holding call on Aaron Colvin put the ball on the 2. After Darnold was stopped for no gain on a quarterback draw, he handed the ball to McGuire who pushed up the middle 鈥?surrounded by a surging mass of blockers who helped shove him all the way into the end zone for the score. It set off a wild celebration by the Jets. But Deshaun Watson and the Texans 鈥?whose nine-game winning streak was snapped by Indianapolis last Sunday 鈥?weren't going down for the second straight game. Watson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins with 2:15 left, lifting Houston to the victory."We've just got to finish the game," Darnold said.A holding call on cornerback Morris Claiborne on third down prolonged the Texans' winning drive, and Watson completed passes of 20 and 3 yards to Demaryius Thomas and 7 yards to Hopkins to get to New York's 14."This is how I feed my family," Claiborne said of the penalty call. "When you make calls like that, you mess that up for me."Watson then found Hopkins streaking down the left sideline and launched a pass that the receiver somehow came down with despite being tightly covered by Claiborne."The holding call hurt us, obviously," Bowles said. "That got them down the field and the guy made a heck of a catch at the end. Mo had him covered great. He's a great receiver and he made a heck of a play."Darnold and the Jets had two more chances to pull off a stunner. On fourth-and-14 from the New York 21, Robby Anderson couldn't come down with Darnold's throw 鈥?and the Jets turned it over on downs."It was just a little bit of bad judgment by me," Anderson said. "I came a little bit too much under it and it hit right off my fingertips."Moments later, Ka'imi Fairbairn's 40-yard field goal 鈥?his fifth kick of the game 鈥?made it 29-22 with 54 seconds left.Darnold and the offense came out again with 75 yards between them and a tying touchdown. But after two incompletions and a sack, Darnold faced a fourth-and-18. He threw a short pass to McGuire, who gained 16 yards 鈥?2 short of a first down, sealing the game."It's frustrating to lose the ballgame," Bowles said. "We could've finished it a bunch of different ways. Whether it's offense or defense, we didn't finish it. The penalties cost us at the end."Darnold's overall performance, however, was a glaring bright spot for the Jets 鈥?who have had few things to feel good about this season. He was 24 of 38 for 253 yards and touchdown passes to Anderson and Andre Roberts Womens Shane Lechler Jersey , and also ran six times for 35 yards in arguably his best game of the season. That would mark two straight solid outings for Darnold, who missed three games with a strained foot before returning against Buffalo last Sunday."He's just comfortable," Bowles said. "He's just playing his game. He's not trying to be perfect. He's just trying to play football. He's just enjoying playing football. That comes with game by game, having success."You sit out a while, you get to step back and you come back and you learn a little bit. It looks like he's learned quite a bit."Darnold's teammates are also noticing a more confident playmaking quarterback on the field."He played phenomenal," safety Jamal Adams said. "He's a bad man and the future is bright for him."After the game, Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt found Darnold on the field and gave the young quarterback a hug."You're going to be a great pro," Watt told him.The overall outlook for the Jets appears uncertain with Bowles likely to be looking for a new job when the season ends, and general manager Mike Maccagnan not a lock to return. But one thing New York might be able to count on is the fact it has a young quarterback who is progressing each week."Yeah, I mean, I feel comfortable getting experience and I feel like I'm seeing the field a lot better," Darnold said. "I feel like our whole offense is really starting to click a lot better, getting in and out. But, it comes down to wins and losses. We want to get out there and win the game. That's the whole point of playing, you want to win." The Texans have completed the first quarter of the 2018 season with a record of 1-3. Not exactly how fans expected the season to start off, but there is enough talent on this roster to get things going in the right direction. Some of that talent is in the form of rookies finding a niche on this roster. Circumstances at hand compel rookies to get on the field at any level of the game. With no picks in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, there weren’t many opportunities for the Texans to ‘plug and play’ rookies on this squad. Although safety and both offensive tackle spots were in dire need of an upgrade, it’s difficult to expect a rookie - and for the Texans, a third round one at that - to immediately be NFL-ready. Although the Texans’ situation did not allow for the expenditure of premium draft capital, they have found valuable pieces from several mid-round rookies.Justin ReidThe first pick this year for the Texans took place in the third round and turned out to be a steal from the get-go. Justin Reid is a part of a reconfigured secondary along with Tyrann Mathieu and Aaron Colvin (who was injured this past week). Reid is a smart, poised safety who has been probably the most consistent secondary defensive back the Texans have. Reid is best when playing deep in coverage and panning over the top of the defense. Whenever the Texans line up in a nickel formation, Reid is on the field as the third safety. He is playing about 70% of the snaps on defense and is contributing on special teams as well. Reid was a player who dropped in the draft most likely due to his ceiling, but that only made his value that much greater when the Texans learned months later that they had lost Andre Hal. Reid’s first play in the NFL was a doozy - he was juked into the ground by Travis Kelce in his first preseason game. Welcome to the NFL, kid. Since then, he has delivered quality tackling and sound defense. The next big step in his development will be to start breaking up passes and commanding the middle of the field.Keke CouteeWhoa. A different type of welcome to the the NFL was in order for this speedster at the wide receiver position. With Bruce Ellington out for the remainder of the season Zach Cunningham Jersey White , Coutee, after missing the entire preseason and the first three games of the regular season with a hamstring injury, stepped in immediately and blew away the Colts with his speed. With how much Deshaun Watson likes to extend plays, he need two things out of a slot receiver. The first thing is being a reliable safety valve for when Watson needs to get rid of the ball in a split second. What makes Watson so incredible is the vision and miraculous plays. Having a receiver who can bail him out makes those plays we witnessed for six weeks last year more attainable. The second thing Watson needs is quite the opposite: a late dump-off option. Watson loves to hold the ball as long as possible. It is in his blood to try to make a major play on every snap. In those situations where nothing is open and Watson has to resort to an intermediate option, Coutee must be readily available. There was a ton of praise surrounding Coutee coming out of training camp, but when he injured his hamstring and was forced to sit out several weeks, I thought his career trajectory was massively lowered. All too often a player misses the beginning of their career and he can never recover/learn everything he missed out on. It looks like Coutee has not missed a step and has the potential to be a page-turner in the Texans offensive playbook.Martinas RankinRankin has always been a favorite of many on Battle Red Blog. So far, he has played at left and right tackle for the Texans. Lately, he has exclusively played left tackle instead of Julien Davenport. On running plays, Rankin is more of an edge-setter than a move my guy off the ball and pancake his [KITTEN] type of tackle. Scouting reports mention that the further inside he goes, the better career Rankin will have. I think Rankin screams left guard, but for now he has to play left tackle because the Texans are in dire need at the position. He can actually play center, guard, and tackle, having experience in college playing all three. I like when the Texans line a tight end up over him in passing plays to push out the DE/OLB just a little bit more to let Rankin have more time to get into his slide-step. The closest thing to a plug and play player in Houston’s 2018 draft class has the makings of developing into a worthwhile pro lineman.Duke EjioforThe “Duke of the Edge” had quite the preseason campaign to start off his NFL career. He played a little over a third of the snaps in Sunday’s game against the Colts. Ejiofor does not have raw speed around the edge or unmatched strength to bulldoze linemen, but what he does have is agility paired with aggressive pass rush moves. The next step in his progression is to mask his moves to make it more difficult for a lineman to diagnose what trick he is about to pull. Sleight of hand is a big asset for a pitcher - if you can’t see the curve ball coming, it will drop off the table before you even knew it was there. Same thing for an effective pass rush move. Ejiofor will make his living in pass rush situations on third down. There is no such thing as too many elite pass rushers, and Ejiofor is a curve ball for offensive linemen after having to take the punishment of blocking either J.J. Watt or Jadeveon Clowney. Through the first four games, Ejiofor has recorded four tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery. Jordan AkinsAkins is another player whose preseason performance set a high bar for him before the regular season began. Akins is the best pass catching tight end on Houston’s roster and has been most readily utilized in the middle of the field. He has seven catches for 74 yards, and almost all of them have been short to the right on first and second down. Only once has the big tight end been targeted in goal line situations, but with so many pass catching options, it’s hard to trust a rookie over some of the proven veterans. It seems Bill O’Brien definitely has a role in mind for Akins and his talents; it’s more a matter of trust and opportunity than anything else. With so many mouths to feedl, Akins getting about two or three catches per game seems fair for where he is in his career. Watch for Akins to begin to line up in different places throughout the game to create mismatches on the defense. For example Womens Seantrel Henderson Jersey , if the Texans line him up as the outside receiver and DeAndre Hopkins in the slot, it gives Akins an opportunity to be one on one with a smaller cornerback while allowing Hopkins to deal with a less proficient corner in the slot. Jordan ThomasThomas is a natural mismatch against nickel cornerbacks. At 6’6”, he towers over almost every other person who would be covering him. Thomas is currently the third string tight end and will need to develop as a run blocker if he wants to get on the field more. He had a big reception against the Colts and strode up the sideline for 40 yards before being brought down. So far, Thomas plays about a quarter of the snaps and lines up in the slot or as a wingback. He has caught three receptions for 80 yards this season. He’s probably the most developmental project in the draft class, Thomas has the makings of an elite tight end whose pass catching abilities can really challenge teams in short yardage situations. For now, most of his catches have occurred against zone coverage where he is able to find a hole in the defense. Peter KalambayiEven though 53 players can call themselves Texans, only 46 suit up on game day. Unless you are D.J. Swearinger, this means that almost everyone has to contribute on special teams. No backup is too valuable to not serve on special teams. Kalambayi, a rookie linebacker out of Stanford, is next in line to replace Brennan Scarlett as the run-stopping outside linebacker who can drop in coverage. As a sixth round draft pick, Kalambayi is a pure developmental and depth piece to the defense. He won’t rush the passer, but instead can set the edge against zone run schemes and will drop back in coverage if necessary. Kalambayi has made his impact on punt and kickoff coverage teams. Although he played the fewest amount of plays of any Texan last week, there is definitely some upside in this draft choice.Trevor DanielUndrafted rookie free agents making an impact is the best added value for a franchise. Frankly, I never thought Daniel was going to make the roster. Cutting future Hall of Famers from the roster is out of the ordinary and unpredictable for any position. So far, it may seem hard to back the decision to keep Daniel over Shane Lechler, as the rookie is averaging just 42 yards per punt, ranked 29th in the league. What Daniel does best, however, is pin opposing defenses deep in their own territory. Of his 18 punts, 10 have been inside opponent’s 20 yard line.Of the 18 punts, only five have been returned for a total of 27 yards, which is pretty great for a first-time punter in the league. Field position battle is one of the most underrated contests in a football game; if a punter can force an opposing offense to gain one or two more first downs per drive, it pays dividends for the defense, as they have more opportunities to stop their opponent before scoring. How do you think the rookies are performing at the quarter pole of the 2018 season?

At halftime, the score of the game is 3-3.Both teams had chances to get in the end zone in the first half, with the Packers arguably having the best opportunities. On the team’s first offensive drive, Lance Kendricks was unable to come up with a catchable ball for a touchdown on a throw from Brett Hundley early, forcing the Packers to settle for their field goal. Late in the second quarter, rookie cornerback Josh Jackson intercepted a pass and took it to the house, but the play was called back on a holding penalty by Herb Waters. The Raiders crossed midfield multiple times on their own, but the Packers got an interception from fellow rookie Jaire Alexander and a missed 49-yard field goal attempt from Raiders kicker Mike Nugent that helped keep them to three points. Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsNo day underscores the hilarity of the basic premise of the NFL combine like the offensive line workouts, watching 300-pound men running around in spandex. While it’s true offensive linemen are rarely going to be running 40 yards down the field or doing the kinds of drills we see in Indianapolis, the movement skills of these dancing bears can be instructive. Who looks like an NFL athlete and who doesn’t? It’s not everything, but it’s not nothing either. Garrett Bradbury jumped out during the athletic testing, posting a 4.95 40 with a 1.74 10-yard split at nearly 6-foot-3 and 306 pounds. He also had one of the better verticals at 31 inches and stellar agility scores with a 4.53 shuttle time to go with a 7.41 3-cone. The North Carolina State lineman can play center or guard in the NFL and his movement skills in the drills emphasize what he shows on tape as a blocker in space. Though the Packers don’t generally draft interior college lineman, Bradbury might be the kind of athlete Green Bay makes an exception to get given how much the front office prizes athletic traits with offensive lineman. Questions about Alabama left tackle Jonah Williams’ arm length didn’t stop there. He ran 5.1 with a 1.77 split at 6-foot-4, 302 pounds which was the good. The bad was bad, with his agility times coming in well below where the Packers prefer with their offensive lineman. He did have one of the best lines of the combine so far so there’s that, but even for someone who might have to be a guard, it wasn’t a great showing. Williams, for his part, says he just wants the chance to compete Jamaal Williams Jersey , wherever it is.“I’ll play anywhere a team wants me to play but I was the best tackle in college football,” Williams said. His salty demeanor shows up on tape too. He’s a fighter. In the afternoon, the running backs took center stage, of particular interest to the Packers who have already met with some of the most intriguing names in the draft including Alabama’s Josh Jacobs, Stanford’s Bryce Love, and Memphis standout Darrell Henderson. Though running back isn’t a pressing need for the Packers, Matt LaFleur’s insistence on balance and sharing the backfield load could very well lead Brian Gutekunst to pick one of these guys in the middle rounds, much like 2017. Jacobs didn’t work out as the consensus RB1, but Green Bay would have to see him take a major tumble to go that route. That makes the workouts for some of the guys projected in the middle rounds more salient for them. Henderson followed a disappoint first 40 with a 4.49 time while FAU back Devin Singletary underwhelmed with a 4.66, though his best attribute is his ability to make guys miss. And while they didn’t work out, nearly every top-tier pass rusher came measured in above where they were projected from a size standpoint. Montez Sweat, at 6-foot-6 Kenny Clark Jersey , 260 pounds with a 7-foot wingspan looks like a 747, while Jachai Polite (258) and Brian Burns (249) added considerable weight to perform in Indianapolis. They haven’t tested out yet and those numbers will be important, but this impressive group cleared the first hurdle with no problems. Tight ends likewise didn’t work out, but a number of players mentioned meetings with the Packers including nearly every top-tier prospect. Noah Fant, Jace Sternberger and Irv Smith Jr. said they would meet with Green Bay. T.J. Hockenson was cagey in not mentioning any specific teams, but it would be easily to infer he’s in the mix as well. With the presence of Jimmy Graham, the Packers need a quality blocking tight end opposite him, preferably a player who can blossom into a more full-time pass catcher once Graham moves on. Matt LaFleur’s offense relies heavily on a solid run game and he’s been unequivocal about believing in sharing carries in the backfield. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams present a more-than-solid 1-2 punch, but adding depth and variance of skillset makes sense for the Packers. Finding a back to add into the mix will be on the agenda for Gutekunst, as will picking through a deep group of offensive lineman to solidify the right guard spot. Pairing them with a dual-threat tight end rounds out the run-game rebuild. Friday will go a long way to shaking out who the Packers will be targeting come spring to complete just such an overhaul.

Clelin Ferrell went way higher than anyone expected. Montez Sweat fell all the way to the 24th overall pick, and a lot of good players are still available heading into Day 2 of the draft for the Detroit Lions to consider. Let’s take a look at some of the players still available as the Lions wait for their turn.Wide Receiver1. D.K. Metcalf2. Deebo Samuel3. Hakeem Butler4. A.J. Brown5. Terry McLaurinMetcalf falling this far is a bit interesting. It’s not surprising that he dropped a bit, but no one really expected him to still be here on Day 2. Still, this is good news for the Lions if they’re looking to add even more offensive weapons for Stafford. Metcalf is the type of receiver that Stafford loves and would be a nice fit here.Deebo Samuel, one of my favorite fits for the Lions, is also out there and would be great value with the 43rd overall pick. Him and A.J. Brown would be great slot options for the Lions, and if they’re looking for speed, then maybe McLaurin, Parris Campbell or Andy Isabella could be an option for them as well.Cornerback1. Amani Oruwariye2. Greedy Williams3. Byron Murphy4. Justin Layne5. David LongThere are a lot of great options here even outside of the top-five listed above. Only one corner (Deandre Baker) was drafted on the first night and it took all the way up until the 30th overall pick to finally get there. Guys like Oruwariye Tavon Wilson Jersey , Williams, Layne, Long and even Rock Ya-Sin would be nice fits for Patricia’s heavy man-coverage scheme. Murphy might not be a perfect fit, but fits what Quinn is looking for in a defensive playmaker.Offensive Line1. Jawaan Taylor2. Dalton Risner3. Greg Little4. Erik McCoy5. Cody FordSome surprises here as even Tytus Howard from Alabama State went in the first round over Jawaan Taylor or Dalton Risner. Taylor has always been a bit of a project but is extremely tenacious and would be a nice addition for the Lions if he somehow makes it all the way to their second-round pick. The Lions could luck their way into one of the top O-linemen after skipping over the position in the first round.Edge rusher1. Anthony Nelson2. Chase Winovich3. Christian Miller4. Zach Allen5. Oshane XiminesThough the Lions were unfortunate enough to see the likes of Josh Allen go directly ahead of them, there are still some talented edge rushers available. Nelson is a down DE candidate with great athleticism and impressive bend for his size. Winovich is a little smaller, but is a great technician and tested extremely well at the combine.Zach Allen isn’t quite the athlete as the aforementioned prospects, but fits well with what Patricia is looking for and is dominant with his hands and at the point of attack. I could see at least one or two of these guys available when the Lions are on the clock in the second round, and they could really hit a home run with one of these players.Safety1. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson2. Nasir Adderley3. Taylor Rapp4. Juan Thornhill5. Deionte ThompsonSafety may not be the top need for the Lions, but there are a ton of talented players left that would make for great value at the top of the second round or in the third if any of them slip even further. Gardner-Johnson is a very versatile player that can line up in man coverage if you’d like him to Matt Prater Jersey , or he can play deep and use his instincts to create turnovers and make plays. Adderley has great range as a deep safety, while Rapp is likely to stay closer to the line of scrimmage.Thornhill is a hot name after testing elite at the combine, and although Thompson is a victim of others testing well and jumping him on most big boards, he’s still a very good prospect that will warrant consideration early in Day 2.Best of the restDT Trysten HillDT Dre’Mont JonesDT Renell WrenDT Khalen Saunders It looks like the Lions are moving on from Kerry Hyder."As the Detroit Lions try to figure out what they plan on doing at the edge defender position—especially in light of three four defensive ends receiving the franchise tag this week—it has become clear that one player will not be a primary part of their plans. On Monday afternoon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Lions will not be tendering Kerry Hyder Jr. a restricted free agency deal:Hyder was one of two restricted free agents the Lions had. The other, Romeo Okwara, agreed to a two-year deal with the Lions already. Once that happened, the writing was pretty much on the wall for Hyder, who only played in a total of 153 snaps in 2018 Sam Martin Jersey , despite the injury to Ezekiel Ansah.Although Hyder could theoretically come back, it appears he’s now headed for unrestricted free agency when the new league year starts on March 13. It’s a disappointing end to Hyder’s career in Detroit, after the defensive end continually fought against the odds to make an impact with Detroit. In 2016, Hyder fought his way onto the roster and even notched 8.0 sacks. However, after tearing his achilles in the 2017 preseason and due to the Lions undergoing a complete defensive scheme change, it was time for both sides to move on. Hyder will have to continue his underdog story elsewhere, and we wish Hyder the best and hope that he can thrive elsewhere.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Andy Dalton is out for the rest of the season with an injured thumb on his passing hand Randy Bullock Jersey White , another significant blow to a Bengals team that has fallen apart in the past month.Dalton reached for a fumbled ball and had someone land on his right hand during a 35-20 rout by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Cincinnati’s fifth loss in its past six games.Just like that, a season that started with so much promise has turned into a nosedive .Cincinnati (5-6) is without its quarterback or much hope that things will get much better down the stretch. The Bengals put Dalton on injured reserve after he had more tests and medical opinions Monday about the best way to get the thumb healed.Coach Marvin Lewis said Dalton’s thumb is expected to be healed before the start of offseason workouts. It’s the same thumb that Dalton broke while making a tackle on an interception return against the Steelers in 2015. He missed the last three regular-season games and an 18-16 loss to the Steelers in a first-round playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium.Jeff Driskel will start for the Bengals the rest of the way, getting his first chance to lead the team in his third NFL season. The Bengals claimed quarterback Tom Savage off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers as a backup on Monday.“The more you get out there and the more you play well, the more confidence you are going to get in yourself and the people around you,” Driskel said Monday.Dalton completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,566 yards with 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a passer rating of 89.6, the third-highest of his eight-year career.Even with Dalton, the Bengals weren’t doing much except losing. After a 4-1 start that boosted them atop the AFC North, the Bengals have lost five of six and fallen to third place. It’s their worst stretch since 2016 Womens Preston Brown Jersey , when they went 1-5-1 over the middle of the schedule and finished 6-9-1, ending their streak of five straight playoff appearances. After Dalton got hurt on Sunday, Driskel came in and threw his first career touchdown pass and ran for another as the Browns went conservative with a big lead. Cleveland threw the ball only four times in the second half and played softer on defense. Driskel was 17 of 29 for 155 yards.Coordinator Bill Lazor said Monday that Driskel has shown his ability to lead the offense in his limited opportunities.“I think guys see it, and that’s the important part,” Lazor said. “You can’t talk them into feeling good about somebody; they’ve got to earn it. And he’s earned it every day in practice and in the preseason games.”With Driskel running the offense, the Bengals had five false-start penalties — each by a different player — and one more for an illegal shift in the fourth quarter. Driskel thinks that working with the starting offense in practice this week will fix the problems.“The more time you are able to get in and out of the huddle with those guys, hear the cadence, say the cadence, it’s just beneficial,” he said. “I don’t think it helps coming off the bench.”With five games left and Dalton hurt, the Bengals are facing a big challenge.“They’ve got to do it Womens Trey Hopkins Jersey ,” Lewis said. “They’ve got to dig out.”INJURY UPDATECornerback Tony McRae suffered a concussion in the third quarter. The medical staff strapped him to a backboard and wheeled him off the field, concerned he might have a spinal injury. Lewis said Monday that McRae had a concussion but no spinal injury.HUE’S GAME BALLLewis didn’t have anything to say about Browns safety Damarious Randall handing the ball to Hue Jackson after he intercepted one of Dalton’s passes on Sunday.“I don’t want to comment on somebody else’s player,” Lewis said. Last week: 6-6Weeks 1 through 12: 79-81-5Home team shown in bold. Odds taken from Odds Shark.Green Bay (-13.5) vs. ArizonaThe Packers might be a long shot to make the playoffs, but they are still really good at home.<em>Pick: Green Bay (-13.5)</em>Atlanta (-2.5) vs. BaltimoreLike the Packers, the Falcons are a lot better at home. Lamar Jackson vs. Matt Ryan has potential to be a lot of fun, but I think the vet takes it over the rook.<em>Pick: Atlanta (-2.5)</em>Miami (-3.5) vs. BuffaloJosh Allen played well last week against a scuffling Jaguars team, but can he put it together for two games in a row? I have my doubts. I’ll take Miami.<em>Pick: Miami (-3.5)</em>Carolina (-3) vs. Tampa BayDivisional games are normally tight, but the Panthers <em>need</em> this win. They can’t afford to lose their fourth in a row, and I don’t think they will.<em>Pick: Carolina (-3)</em>Chicago (-3.5) vs. New York Giants It’s Chase Daniel again this week for the Bears. If he plays well again, which team is going to give him a multi-year deal this offseason? Some GM out there just might.<em>Pick: Chicago (-3.5)</em>Houston (-5.5) vs. ClevelandFresh off the Hue Jackson revenge game, the Browns (especially Baker Mayfield) have had plenty to say this week. They’ll want to back it up with another solid performance Joe Mixon Jersey White , so this one stays close. Plus, the Texans are due for a clunker.<em>Pick: Cleveland (+5.5)</em>Denver (-5) vs. Cincinnati Jeff Driskel will get a start in place of Andy Dalton for the Bengals this week, and if he plays well things might start to get a little interesting in Cincinnati. However, the Broncos are quietly playing some good ball. I’ll take them.<em>Pick: Denver (-5)</em>Indianapolis (-4) vs. Jacksonville The Jaguars are a mess.<em>Pick: Indianapolis (-4)</em>Los Angeles Rams (-10) vs. DetroitThe Rams are coming off a bye after that thrilling Monday Night Football victory a few weeks back. The Lions are also coming off a mini-bye of sorts after losing to Chase Daniel on Thanksgiving. Give me the Rams.<em>Pick: Los Angeles Rams (-10)</em>Kansas City (-14) vs. Oakland The Raiders are a mess.<em>Pick: Kansas City (-14)</em>Tennessee (-9.5) vs. New York JetsI know the Jets aren’t good by any means, but 9.5 is a lot here. I think this game gets mucked up and ends up closer than people think.<em>Pick: New York Jets (+9.5)</em>New England (-5) vs. MinnesotaA matchup of two teams that haven’t really been as good as we thought they would be this year. Prediction: Kirk Cousins and Tom Brady both put up some big numbers.<em>Pick: New England (-5)</em>Seattle (-10) vs. San FranciscoThe Seahawks just keep on winning games. It may stop sometime, but not against the 49ers.<em>Pick: Seattle (-10)</em>Pittsburgh (-3) vs. Los Angeles ChargersThe Bolts are still looking for that signature win. There’s no better time to get it than in Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football.<em>Pick: Los Angeles Chargers (+3)</em>Philadelphia (-6) vs. WashingtonIf the Eagles can’t get on track at home against a Colt McCoy-led Redskins team, they aren’t going to get back on track.<em>Pick: Philadelphia (-6)</em>

When the Texans host the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night it will be a matchup of Houston's quarterback of the future in Deshaun Watson and one of the many failed quarterbacks of the team's past in Brock Osweiler. It will be Osweiler's third straight start in place of Ryan Tannehill Dylan Cole Jersey , who is out with a shoulder injury.Watson is healthy after dealing with lung and rib injuries and helped the team to its fourth straight win last week after an 0-3 start to leave the Texans in first place in the AFC South. The Texans traded up to draft Watson with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 draft to take over at the position after trading Osweiler to Cleveland just one difficult season after signing him to a $72 million contract. Osweiler spent last season with the Broncos before joining the Dolphins this year.Osweiler was supposed to be the answer to Houston's longtime woes at quarterback, but instead ended up being the worst free-agent signing in the franchise's short history. He was benched in December of his first and only season with the Texans when he'd thrown three interceptions before halftime of a game against the Jaguars. Tom Savage started the next two games, but got a concussion early in the second one and the Texans looked to Osweiler again. He played well to help Houston to a win in the wild-card game over Oakland. But his three interceptions doomed the Texans in a 34-16 loss to New England in the next round and he was sent packing a couple of months after that.Osweiler, who is 1-1 as a starter this season, knows everyone will be talking about his time in Houston this week, but insists he isn't worried about it."There's going to be a lot of outside noise trying to make a situation bigger than what it really is; but at the end of the day ... my one season I had in Houston Trevor Daniel Jersey , I look at it as a successful season," he said. "We won our division and we won a playoff game."He said he hasn't spoken to Houston coach Bill O'Brien since the trade, but that he has "great respect" for him and the Texans."There's no hard feelings," Osweiler said. "There's no ill-will ... (I'm) focused just on playing a good football game Thursday and doing whatever this football team needs me to do to help them get a win."Although the Texans went 9-7 in Osweiler's one season, some of his former teammates don't have very fond memories of his time in Houston."He's not here anymore, so I don't really care for him Natrell Jamerson Jersey ," defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said. "We didn't win a lot with him. Trying to go against him now. Try to get after him this week up front make him rattled in the pocket, hope he'll throw a couple of interceptions."While the Texans were certainly disappointed that Osweiler didn't work out after he signed that huge contract, they're happy with how things worked out considering that his failure led to them drafting Watson. The 23-year-old Watson said he didn't know a lot about the revolving door the team had at quarterback in the years before he was drafted. But he does understand how excited fans are to have him and about his potential to be the franchise quarterback this team has long searched for."It's been awesome just to feel that love and just have people consider me as a franchise quarterback and they want me here," he said. "So, I've just got to continue to focus on what I can do to help this team win."Some things to know about the Dolphins-Texans game.EARLY ARRIVALThe Dolphins flew to Houston on Tuesday, a day earlier than usual. Coach Adam Gase decided to tweak the schedule because in the Dolphins' two most recent Thursday night appearances Sammie Coates Jersey , they lost at Cincinnati 22-7 in 2016 and at Baltimore 40-0 last year.Gase conceded he's still trying to figure out the best way to prepare on a short week."I'm the wrong guy to ask on that, considering that I think we've scored seven points and given up 60-something," he said. "We're trying something new this year."MILLER'S MIAMI TIESHouston running back Lamar Miller was born and raised in Miami, went to college at Miami, was drafted by the Dolphins in 2012 and spent his first four seasons there before signing with the Texans before the 2016 season.Miller, who had his first 100-yard rushing game since 2016 last week Aaron Colvin Jersey , said he's trying to approach Thursday as any other game, but admitted it might mean a little bit more because of his history."Of course, I want to do good because I played there and I'm from there," he said. "So, I'm going to try and do whatever I can to put us in the best spot to win this game."KEY MATCHUPMiami cornerback Xavien Howard is likely to spend a lot of time covering DeAndre Hopkins, who is tied for third in the NFL with 707 yards receiving on 47 catches."I see he likes to push off a lot Ka’imi Fairbairn Jersey ," Howard said. "He likes to get physical. That's going to be part of his game."Howard said that's fine with him."Oh, yeah. I'm a physical corner," he said.Howard is tied for the league lead with three interceptions.AP Sports Writer Steven Wine in Miami contributed to this report.

NASHVILLE Jimmy Graham Jersey , Tenn. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are turning to fast-rising offensive whiz Matt LaFleur to aid Aaron Rodgers and end a two-year absence from the postseason.LaFleur accepted an offer Monday to become the next head coach of the Packers, according to a person familiar with the decision. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither the Packers nor the Titans had announced the decision. The 39-year-old LaFleur spent this season as offensive coordinator for the Titans, his first calling plays in the NFL. He takes over for Mike McCarthy, who was fired during the season following a stunning home loss to Arizona on Dec. 2. Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin went 2-2 to close out the season as the Packers failed to reach the playoffs for the second straight year with a 6-9-1 record that was the second straight under .500 for the storied franchise. He was offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, leading a group that paced the NFL in scoring and was 10th in total offense under coach Sean McVay, who called the plays on offense. LaFleur was the quarterbacks coach in Atlanta for two seasons, including when Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was the NFL MVP in 2016. LaFleur also has coached with Washington and Houston Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey , and was the quarterbacks coach for Notre Dame in 2014.He will be charged with returning the Packers to the playoffs on a regular basis. McCarthy’s tenure of 12-plus seasons was by and large successful, highlighted by the 2010 Super Bowl season and nine playoff appearances.Still, the once potent offense that could make up for other deficiencies slowed in 2018, a tumultuous year that began with Rodgers leading a stirring comeback victory in the opener over the Bears. The two-time NFL MVP returned after halftime from a left knee injury that nagged him the rest of the season.Rodgers’ 62.3 percent completion rate was his lowest since 2015 (60.7) and his 25 touchdown passes were a low for a season in which he played at least 15 games, though so were his two interceptions.Injuries to Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison forced the Packers to turn to rookies perhaps earlier than expected, though Davante Adams emerged as an elite receiver. The relationship between LaFleur and Rodgers will be closely watched after the sometimes tenuous moments between the star QB and McCarthy. They characterized their relationship as close, but with ups and downs that come with two headstrong competitors who had worked together for more than a dozen years. The Packers reportedly interviewed several candidates with head-coaching experience Marcedes Lewis Jersey , including Philbin, Chuck Pagano, Adam Gase and Jim Caldwell. The instead opted for LaFleur, who had never called plays before this season and until now has never been in charge of an entire roster. It is just one element of an offseason of change ahead in Green Bay.Clay Matthews, one of the last remaining links to Green Bay’s Super Bowl-winning season, is a free agent after finishing with a career-low 3½ sacks in his 10th season with the Packers but the first under the tweaked 3-4 scheme installed by first-year coordinator Mike Pettine.Cobb is also a prominent free agent for Green Bay, and a steady Lance Kendricks Jersey , experienced target for Rodgers — if he returns. The running game could be a strength next season behind Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones, who led the NFL in yards per carry before suffering a knee injury in mid-December. The coordinator’s job could be in flux, too. Philbin is well-liked by Rodgers and the 16-year NFL coaching veteran and he won respect from players for his even-keeled and straightforward demeanor in the transition following McCarthy’s firing.Pettine’s defense showed flashes in his first year on the job. First-round draft pick Jaire Alexander displayed the potential of playing like the top cornerback the Packers desperately need. Injuries struck the defensive line, which was one of the team’s strengths coming into the season, and the Packers lacked a consistent rush at outside linebacker outside of surprise sacks leader Kyler Fackrell (10½).Tennessee has changes coming, too. The Titans went 9-7 and missed the playoffs, ending the season ranked 27th in scoring and 25th in total offense while injuries took a toll. Quarterback Marcus Mariota will soon be working with his fourth offensive coordinator in five seasons. 49ers run game coordinator Mike McDaniel is drawing interest from other teams Davon House Jersey , but it doesn’t appear he’ll be leaving Kyle Shanahan’s staff at this point.Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals and Packers have inquired about interviewing McDaniel about their offensive coordinator vacancies. Per the report, the 49ers are not “inclined” to grant permission for McDaniel to speak to the other teams at this point.McDaniel has worked with Shanahan for a long time. He was an offensive assistant for the Texans while Shanahan was on Gary Kubiak’s staff and then worked with his current boss in Washington, Cleveland and Atlanta before joining him with the 49ers.The Cardinals have also been linked to former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, former Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and Texas State head coach Jake Spavital in their hunt for coaches to join Kliff Kingsbury’s staff. There’s been less word about new coaches on Green Bay’s radar than there has been about 2018 assistants who will be leaving the team.

EDTShareTweetShareShareLions free agency grade: Breaking down the Justin Coleman signingKirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsWhen labeling the Detroit Lions’ needs heading into free agency, cornerback was high atop most people’s list. When the Lions released Nevin Lawson, it officially jumped to a top-five need. However, when dreaming up free agency targets for Detroit, most people focused on outside cornerback players. So when the Lions went out on Day 1 and agreed to terms with nickel cornerback Justin Coleman, there was a little bit of confusion. Detroit just spent $9 million a year on a cornerback, and CB2 is still as big of a need as ever. What gives?Let’s take a closer look at the addition and how Coleman fits on the team.Positional needBelieve it or not, nickel corner was just as big of a need for Detroit as outside corner is. With teams going three wide more and more often in the NFL these days, the Lions are likely to have at least five defensive backs on the field around 70-80 percent of the time. Last year, the Lions didn’t truly have a nickel corner on their roster. While the common belief was that Lawson was their No. 2 outside cornerback Miles Killebrew Jersey White , no defensive back played more in the slot than Lawson, with nearly 40 percent of his snaps coming from that position. The rest of the nickel snaps came from a mixture of Darius Slay, DeShawn Shead, Quandre Diggs and Teez Tabor, among other—none of which had more than 90 snaps from the position. And how did that lineup perform in 2018? Not well:But with Coleman now aboard, the Lions don’t have to continually search for their nickel cornerback. They have one. And while Coleman doesn’t provide a ton of versatility (he played 74 percent of his snaps in the slot last year), he will assume one of the toughest jobs in the secondary and allow his teammates like Darius Slay to do what they do best—dominate the edges.TalentThere’s no doubt that Coleman excels as a nickel cornerback. Let’s just drop in a few stats from his past two years with the Seattle Seahawks:Did not allow a touchdown from the slot during the entire 2018 season per Next Gen Stats3rd-best PFF coverage grade from the slot since 2017Tied for 12th in yards allowed per coverage snap, per PFFAnd consider this: Per SB Nation, the Lions were dead last in the league last year, allowing 9.52 yards per attempt out of the slot. Justin Coleman allowed just 5.21 yards per attempt. If there’s a weakness to Coleman’s game, it’s in defending the run. Coleman has had consistent tackling struggles throughout his career, and his 5-foot-11 Womens Jalen Reeves-Maybin Jersey , 190 pound frame makes him an easy target to block out of a play.Seahawks point of viewIt’s always a good indication of how good a signing is by looking at the reaction of the fanbase and media from his former team. Here’s a smattering of what Seahawks fans were saying on Monday. From our friends at Field Gulls:Beat writers: And in Gregg Bell’s column: ValueThis is where the signing of Coleman will be debated: Is a nickel cornerback worth $9 million a year? There’s no doubt that teams are realizing just how important of a position nickel corner is, not just because they are starting to play more in every game, but because just how difficult it is to find talent at that specific position. That being said, would the Lions have been better off spending a couple more million per year? Kareem Jackson got a three-year deal at $11 million per year, and Ronaldy Darby is expected to get even more. It’s hard to put an exact number on the value of a talented nickel cornerback, but the Lions certainly made a statement about their priorities by making Coleman the highest-paid player at the position.OverallThis was an aggressive move by Bob Quinn, and one that will probably go underappreciated by those in the national media. Nickel corner is an underrated need, and with now two cornerbacks that are playing at the top of their game, the Lions can get creative with their coverage to help compensate for their need at the second outside corner position. The price was high, but the need was just as high. I like this move a lot and think it makes more sense that breaking the bank on an outside cornerback—since it helped paved the way to sign a guy like Trey Flowers.Grade: A- Kenny Golladay is making quite an impression on his fellow receivers in Detroit. The second-year wideout had four catches for 98 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the Lions‘ 31-23 victory over Green Bay. He also had a touchdown called back because of a penalty.Golladay has given Detroit another strong receiving threat along with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones 鈥?and at this point, it’s hard to tell who the defense should be most concerned with.“Having Kenny play the way he’s been playing since he came on the team has been huge. He’s opened it up for everybody,” Tate said. “Now we have a bunch of guys who can make plays.”The Lions drafted Golladay in the third round last year out of Northern Illinois Theo Riddick Jersey White , and he got off to quite a start, catching two touchdown passes in his first game .However, he missed five games with hamstring issues and finished the season with only 28 catches.Still, the potential was there, and this year the 6-foot-4 Golladay has nearly matched that reception total already. He has 27 catches for 428 yards. On the Lions, only Tate is ahead of him in those categories.“He’s killing it,” Jones said. “He’s doing a great job, and it’s fun to see.”Golladay has been productive this season, and he’s also been consistent. He caught seven passes for 114 yards in the season opener against the Jets and was one of the very few bright spots for Detroit in that loss. He’s had at least four receptions in all five games. The 5-foot-10 Tate is a dependable veteran who can excel after the catch. Both he and the 6-foot-2 Jones had more than 1,000 yards receiving last season. But it’s hard not to notice Golladay’s physical ability and wonder if Detroit’s passing game could be even better as he becomes a bigger part of it.“He’s obviously a big kid, physical kid, can run Womens Damon Harrison Jersey , wants to be a really good player,” quarterback Matthew Stafford said after the game against Green Bay.“Smart, has dialogue with me. All of our guys do, really, which is great. What they’re seeing out there, what they think we can do 鈥?so, I’m just happy for our team to get a win. Obviously happy for Kenny. He had a good one.”Golladay’s 46-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was nullified by an illegal use of hands penalty on a Detroit lineman. Later that period, Stafford and Golladay connected again for a 60-yard gain that set up a touchdown.Golladay caught a 5-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter that put the Lions up 31-14.“Whenever my number is called, I’m just trying to make the play,” Golladay said. “So if they want to throw it to me five times or four times a game or nine times a game, I just want to make all the plays.”As he becomes more of an established target, Golladay may have to deal with more attention from opposing defenses. That’s a sign of respect Womens Sam Martin Jersey , of course, and Lions coach Matt Patricia likes what he sees so far.“There’s a lot of different coverages that are coming his way, there’s a lot of different fronts, doubles, bracket-type situations that he’s running into. … The great part about it is just his competitiveness overall,” Patricia said.“Doing the details, doing the little things 鈥?the blocking. Maybe some of the plays where he may draw a little bit more attention and free somebody else up. Those are big responsibilities in the offense and kind of help everything fit together for all the guys on the field.”NOTES: DE Ziggy Ansah, back with the Lions this season on the franchise tag, has missed the past four games with a shoulder injury. Patricia did not appreciate a question Monday about whether Ansah’s contract status might be affecting his return to the field. “The guy’s trying every single day to get back out there. So, that’s what it is. Don’t make it anything more than that,” Patricia said.___

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension with Danielle Hunter http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-mark-walton-jersey , making him one of the top 10 highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL while securing another core player before he could reach free agency. The deal, which was done on Wednesday, is worth up to $72 million, according to a person with knowledge of the contract who spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms weren't disclosed by the team. The deal includes $40 million in guaranteed money, with a $15 million signing bonus. The annual average worth is more than $14 million, on par with fellow Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen."I had to get this out of the way," Hunter said, acknowledging relief to have signed before training camp. "I didn't want to be bothered by anything."Hunter has 25陆 sacks, three forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles in three seasons, after being drafted in the third round in 2015 out of LSU. Still only 23 years old, Hunter was a top priority to retain at a premium position. Griffen is 30, and primary backup Brian Robison is 35."Just looking forward to getting him locked in and what he's going to continue to bring not only to this defense and this football team, but also the type of character that he brings Womens Clint Boling Jersey ," general manager Rick Spielman said.Over those past three seasons, Hunter and Griffen have combined for 57 sacks, the second most by a pair of teammates in the league behind Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap of the Cincinnati Bengals (58).The pass rush and run defense provided by these bookends has been a significant part of coach Mike Zimmer's unit that gave up the fewest points and yards in the NFL last season."We build a bond together on defense," Hunter said. "We go out there, we know we're brothers. We fight together. We do our assignments. On and off the field we're really, really close.Hunter was third in the NFL with 12陆 sacks in 2016, the most by a defensive end. Born in Jamaica and raised just outside of Houston, the 6-foot-5, 252-pound Hunter was a classic late bloomer the Vikings targeted with confidence he'd continue to develop with the right coaching to complement his measurable physical skills. Spielman and his scouts have been proven right with that pick."I kind of came in with the mindset of just playing football. I had a whole bunch of people in front of me, older guys that were able to show me the way, good coaches and a good coaching staff," Hunter said. "The only thing I could do is just come in here and focus and play football."The Vikings extended middle linebacker Eric Kendricks earlier this offseason. Outside linebacker Anthony Barr and wide receiver Stefon Diggs are their other two standouts on expiring contracts, with space under the salary cap dwindling. Signing both of them to new long-term deals might not be possible. They're plenty happy to at least have Hunter around well into the next decade Tyler Boyd Jersey White , though. According to statistics compiled by Vikings coaches, Hunter also has 125 quarterback hurries and 147 total tackles. He has never missed an NFL game to injury, with his only two absences coming in 2015 when he was on the inactive list in the first month of his rookie year."It's all about keep continuing to improve my game. I've got to go out there and do what the coaches tell me to do. Now that I have this I can't relax," Hunter said. "I have to keep pounding and grinding." The Bengals surprised everyone with an early selection of a tight end. However, the pick makes a lot of sense once you examine it."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections #BITESIZEFilm RoomRoster Transactions and ContractsOrange & Black InsiderSalary Cap And CBABreaking down the Bengals’ selection of Drew SampleNew,61commentsThe Bengals surprised everyone with an early selection of a tight end. However, the pick makes a lot of sense once you examine it. EDTShareTweetShareShareBreaking down the Bengals’ selection of Drew SampleIn some ways, folks expected the Bengals to trade back from their No. 42 spot in the second round. Many solid players were left on the board as their time approached, but some were plucked in picks right before theirs, so Zac Taylor and Co. decided to trade back and gain both a fourth-round and sixth-round selection. Cincinnati went with the big and athletic tight end, Drew Sample from the University of Washington. At 6’5” and 255 pounds, Sample should provide a great red zone weapon for Andy Dalton. What he brings to the BengalsSize: As mentioned above, Sample has good size for the position in the NFL. Dalton’s strengths are in the short and intermediate passing game. It’s a big reason as to why Tyler Eifert has had some big numbers with Dalton http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-mixon-jersey , when healthy. The Rams didn’t overly-use tight ends in their offensive system with Taylor, but they were part of the massive production. With Pittsburgh and Cleveland grabbing talented defenders in the early rounds, a big target in the passing game should negate some of those matchup issues. Upside: After the Bengals made the pick of Sample, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said that teams liked Sample more than what his production would indicate. Sample had just three touchdowns last year, but a lot of folks think his best football is in front of him. Cincinnati re-signed both Eifert and C.J. Uzomah to varying deals this offseason, but there are questions with both players. Sample is in the fold for the next four years, surpassing both of the deals by those veterans. Why the Bengals picked SampleRed zone effectiveness: Cincinnati’s offense needs to score more touchdowns, despite who is under center. When Eifert, Tyler Kroft and A.J. Green were injured last year, Cincinnati only had Uzomah as a big target in those critical short-yardage situations. Sample is huge, has a nice catch radius and most compare him to Jack Doyle. If Cincinnati gets that kind of production from him out of the second round, while still being able to spread the ball around to other weapons, they will be happy. Third downs: Given the massive amount of struggles by the Bengals’ defense last year Jessie Bates III Jersey White , one would be inclined to think that the Bengals would have gone with defensive line or linebacker in the second round. However, part of the reason why Cincinnati’s defense struggled, aside from poor coaching and injuries, is the ineffectiveness of the 2018 offense. On many occasions, the Bengals’ offense forced the defense right back on the field after a stop because of ineffectiveness. Methodically moving the chains via big targets like Sample begins to balance the scales without even taking a defensive player. Uncertainty at the position group: Uzomah and Eifert are athletic and have had moments of greatness, but both have suffered injuries. And, when they’ve missed time, the entire team has felt the impact. While you don’t want to use a second-round pick on a third rotational option, it seems as if the Bengals have a solid plan for Sample. He is versatile and could even be used as a potential H-Back and nice outlet. Blocking: Even though the tight end position has evolved in recent years, blocking off of the edge is still at a premium. Sample is known as one of the best blockers in this year’s class.

Free agency begins in earnest today around the NFL — the league opens up its negotiating period at 12 noon Eastern, allowing agents for unrestricted free agents to begin talking to other NFL teams about their clients. While no deals can be signed and no visits taken until after 4:00 PM on Wednesday, expect to hear plenty of reports of handshake agreements taking place in the intervening time. For the Green Bay Packers, reports and rumors are swirling. General manager Brian Gutekunst will have plenty of options on this year’s market for positions of need, and he currently has about $35 million in salary cap space to work with. That could increase if the team cuts or renegotiates contracts with Jimmy Graham and/or Nick Perry, however, and the latter still appears to be a serious candidate to get the axe if he is not willing to take a pay cut.Of course, pass-rushers and safeties are two of the biggest positions to focus on. They’re both spots where there are some intriguing free-agent options, but on the edge the prices appear to be much higher for the mid-level players than at safety. While Earl Thomas is an exciting name, the Packers might need to settle for a lower-tier safety if they sign any of the mid- or high-level EDGEs Womens Corey Linsley Jersey , particularly after one re-signed a new deal on Sunday evening. With negotiations beginning in just a few hours, here’s your primer on where things stand.FMIA: Looking Back at Antonio Brown Trade, Looking Ahead to Free Agency – ProFootballTalkPeter King has a few nuggets about the Packers on the day that negotiations begin: one, they very well may be in the market to trade for Dee Ford (who could be acquired for the cost of a third-round pick) and two, they tried to trade for Baltimore's Za'Darius Smith in the past. With Smith now a free agent and Milt Hendrickson (former Baltimore scout) in the front office, that's a name to watch in free agency.Los Angeles Rams retain EDGE Dante Fowler Jr. on one year prove-it deal - Turf Show TimesThat's one more edge rusher off the board, as Fowler stays in LA on a one-year, $14 million deal. That will help set the market for some of the other pass-rushers out there this year, though the one-year term will balance that out a bit.Deep safety class in free agency bodes well for safety-needy Packers | Packers WireOf course, many eyes will also be on the safety position instead of pass-rushers. While Earl Thomas is clearly the cream of the crop, there are plenty of other players on the market this year http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-marcedes-lewis-jersey , which could lead to prices being depressed for a second straight year. Note that Eric Weddle — recently released by the Ravens — has already signed with the Rams.Report: Packers have interest in RB Mark Ingram | 247sportsNo thanks. If the Packers want to invest in a free agent running back, I'd much rather see them go after Tevin Coleman. This isn’t to say LaFleur could lose his job after one season (barring a bigger disaster than 2018, which seems almost unfathomable as long as Aaron Rodgers starts) Jermaine Whitehead Jersey , but the expectations in Green Bay have been clears for the past 20-plus years and that is to contend for and win world championships.Thankfully the quarterback and head coach both seem to know that. There will be no excuses now with a new offense, a reloaded defense thanks to free agency and presumably some draft picks, and a quarterback who’s healthy and not to mention plenty motivated after the events of this week. While the Packers certainly cannot be penciled in as Super Bowl contenders at the moment, the expectations at Lambeau Field are clear: they expect to be playing in January.Anyone care to bet against them with a huge chip once again on Rodgers’ shoulder? The Lions have traded Golden Tate, and the Vikings are expected to deactivate Stefon Diggs.Diggs suffered a rib injury against the Saints last Sunday night (he seemed to grab at his lower chest after a catch late in the first half), and even though Diggs has said he’ll play on Sunday, multiple reports indicate that he won’t.
