FanPulse: How Patriots and Jaguars fans view Sunday’s game

Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse — a survey of fans across the NFL Color Rush Jacob Bailey Jersey , powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Patriots fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse. How confident are you in the direction of the team? Last week: 90 percent confidenceThe overall confidence in the Patriots has dropped a few percentage points, but it’s pretty darn close to what it was last week. The drops make sense, too- Jeremy Hill is out of the year and Chris Hogan didn’t bother to show up against the Texans, while the defense really struggled against the run.A win against the Jaguars- a convincing one- should help confidence in the team. Will the Patriots win or lose in Week 2?Odds: Patriots are 1.5-point favoritesPats Pulpit FanPulse: Patriots by 6Big Cat Country FanPulse: Jaguars by 3This is a pretty big split of 9 points and I think it’s interesting that each team is 4.5-points away from the betting line. Does that mean homerism is worth 4.5-points to Vegas? Or is this insight into how much confidence fans have in their teams? What do you think?Other than QB, what is most valuable to an NFL offense? Trent Brown was outstanding for the Patriots in his first game and hopefully he can continue to play at a high level. He was the biggest question mark for the offensive line heading into this year (Marcus Cannon’s injury aside) and he gave a strong answer.Brown held his own against Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus and won’t get a breather against the Jaguars with Yannick Ngakoue and Calais Campbell. Best of luck, Trent! FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Jarrett Stidham now stands where several others have before him — as a possible successor to Tom Brady as quarterback of the New England Patriots. But like nine other drafted signal-callers before him, Stidham knows it’s best to concentrate solely upon making the football team first and worry later about what his role may be when the ageless Brady finally decides to hang up his cleats.“It’s a tremendous opportunity to learn under him and (backup) Brian Hoyer,” said Stidham, the Auburn quarterback selected Saturday by the Patriots in the fourth round of the draft.“To be in the same room with those guys and to learn from them, it’s going to be great and I’m really looking forward to it.”Stidham Youth Jacob Bailey Jersey , a two-year starter at Auburn, was the 133rd overall pick, 66 positions higher than Brady’s selection in 2000.Since then, the Patriots have drafted Rohan Davey, Kliff Kingsbury, Matt Cassel, Kevin O’Connell, Zac Robinson, Ryan Mallett, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett and Danny Etling.Of them, only Cassel had any significant playing time with the Patriots, playing most of the 2008 season after Brady Womens Jacob Bailey Jersey , who will be 42 in August, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opening game against Kansas City. The Patriots also signed Hoyer, their current backup, as an undrafted free agent in 2009 and brought him back to the team in 2017 after brief tenures with six other NFL teams.“I don’t think I feel any pressure,” Stidham said. “I’m sure everybody wants to be as good as Tom Brady someday, but I’ve got to take it one day at a time. I’m going to work as absolutely as hard as I can to make sure I can do whatever it is to help this organization out.”Nick Caserio, the Patriots’ director of player personnel, came away impressed with Stidham after a lengthy meeting with him at Auburn’s pro day.“He’s a smart kid, pretty mature, picks things up well,” Caserio said. “So we’ll see how it goes. He’s going to transition into a system that’s a little bit different in terms of play-calling and some of the other things he’ll be asked to do here. But he’s an impressive kid.”The Patriots made 10 selections in all over the three days, engineering seven trades, including three with the Los Angeles Rams Authentic Jacob Bailey Jersey , whom they defeated 13-3 in the Super Bowl.WHO THEY GOTAlthough they did not address the hole at tight end left by the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots appeared to find several players they expect to contribute immediately. At the top of that list would be their first-round pick, wide receiver N’Keal Henry of Arizona State, whose 6-foot-3 size and productivity should help the Patriots stretch the field if suspended veteran Josh Gordon is not reinstated by the league.Vanderbilt cornerback Joejuan Williams, taken in the second round, will have the chance to flank Pro Bowl veteran Stephon Gilmore, while seventh-round pick Ken Webster of Mississippi could add depth.Yodny Cajuste of West Virginia and Hjalte Froholdt of Arkansas bolster the Patriots’ offensive line, Cajuste potentially at right tackle, while defensive linemen Chase Winovich of Michigan and Byron Cowart of Maryland could fill vacancies created by free-agency departures.Jake Bailey of Stanford, the first right-footed punter selected in Bill Belichick’s 20 drafts in New England, will challenge recently resigned veteran Ryan Allen.SURPRISE MOVEThe Patriots selected Alabama running back Damien Harris in the third round, 87th overall. Harris joins a talented position group that includes Sony Michel and James White, but his addition may put the oft-injured Rex Burkhead at risk. This may have been the Patriots’ only “best athlete available” pick of the first two days.HOW THEY DIDThe true measure of a draft isn’t always apparent immediately Jacob Bailey Jersey Boys , but the Patriots appeared to take an effective, targeted approach to fill needs at receiver, cornerback, and the offensive and defensive lines. But other than recent free-agency signee Austin Seferian-Jenkins, the Patriots have not replaced the offensive productivity of Gronkowski at tight end.WHAT’S NEXTAny discussion of the Patriots’ remaining needs for 2019 has to include consideration of the 2018 draft. Several 2018 selections are returning from the injured reserve list and are expected to compete for positions the Patriots didn’t address in this draft.Included among those are: tackle Isaiah Wynn, cornerback Duke Dawson, linebackers Ja’Whaun Bentley and Christian Sam, wide receiver Braxton Berrios, and tight end Ryan Izzo. Otherwise, the Patriots’ staff will look to add several undrafted free agents over the next few days.

EAGAN White Bilal Powell Jerseys , Minn. (AP) — Sheldon Richardson’s NFL career began smoothly with the New York Jets, until off-the-field trouble and locker-room conflict precipitated his eventual departure.Guided by some important gains in maturity, Richardson has found a niche two stops later in Minnesota. This weekend, when the Vikings visit the Jets, he’ll have his first opportunity to vent any bad feelings with a winning performance against his old team for trading him.As outspoken as Richardson has been at times, this was not a subject he was willing to touch when reporters asked him about his return to MetLife Stadium to face the Jets on Sunday afternoon.“Another game. I never put myself above the team Bilal Powell Jerseys 2019 ,” Richardson said. “Whatever personal vendetta I have is between me.”As for the deal that sent him to Seattle for the final year of his rookie contract, right before the 2017 regular season?“It’s a business,” said Richardson, who played one season for the Seahawks, became a free agent and signed a one-year deal with the Vikings .Richardson played up to his first-round draft pick status by winning The Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2013. Then he had a career-high eight sacks and was picked for the Pro Bowl in 2014, the last season under coach Rex Ryan before Todd Bowles took over.Richardson served a four-game suspension in 2015 White Trevor Siemian Jerseys , though, for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He also was suspended for the 2016 season opener for an arrest in his home state of Missouri for driving at high speeds and resisting arrest. Then there was his conflict with wide receiver Brandon Marshall and the public criticisms he expressed that contributed to some bad team chemistry.“I did some things for me to get out of there for them to trade me,” Richardson said, “and other than that I put it on myself, nobody else.”Richardson continued his candid reflection before practice on Wednesday, acknowledging the character development he has undergone.“It was kind of self-inflicted wounds Trevor Siemian Jerseys 2019 ,” he said. “It’s just now me overcoming my personal battles in life. They got me out of there, and that changed everything around there. That’s pretty much it. I pretty much grew from everywhere. Every point, every phase of my life, I grew from it.”Richardson had only one sack last year for the Seahawks, his first season in a primarily 4-3 scheme after playing in a 3-4 system with the Jets that saw him playing some at outside linebacker. With the Vikings, Richardson has settled in nicely at the three-technique position next to Linval Joseph. He has only one sack Color Rush Trevon Wesco Jersey , but less-tangible contributions in pass pressure and run disruption are more important to making coach Mike Zimmer’s system work. Richardson is tied for eighth in the NFL with 10 quarterback hits, and there’s no coincidence that defensive end Danielle Hunter is thriving off his presence inside taking on frequent double-teams.“I’ve been really impressed with Sheldon. Not just his play, but the way he’s come in here and tried to learn the techniques we’re trying to teach him,” Zimmer said. “His professionalism, how he handles himself in the meetings, he’s been really good with everything.”New York Jets Flight Connections 08/05/18 Good morning Youth Trevon Wesco Jersey , Gang Green Gangsters!

(over 90 or so days). Today is punter Mitch Wishnowsky." Roster Projections49ers Roster49ers 90-in-90 roster breakdown49ers 90-in-90: How much of an improvement can Mitch Wishnowsky be?New Garrett Celek Jersey ,24commentsBreaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today is punter Mitch Wishnowsky.PDTNaturally my last 90-in-90 contribution of the offseason is going to revolve around the San Francisco 49ers’ new punter! After four years of fairly middling returns from punter Bradley Pinion, the 49ers decided to go in a new direction this year. Pinion wrapped up his four-year rookie contract last season and quickly departed in free agency — signing a four-year contract with the 49ers Week 1 opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers decision to move on from Pinion made all the sense in the world. For three of his four seasons with the team, Pinion ranked in the bottom third of the league in net punt yards. The punt coverage units are pertinent context to net yards, but Pinion never stood out as one of the better punters in the league.Six weeks after Pinion departed, the 49ers spent a fourth-round pick on Utah Ute and Australian-born punter Mitch Wishnowsky (after trading back six spots in the round). He was the first punter off the board, followed by Stanford’s Jake Bailey. Naturally, a fourth-round pick on a punter drew a lot of reactions here and on Twitter. There is no doubting the talent Wishnowsky brings to the table, but as is always the case with a special teams draft pick in the middle of the draft, people have opinions!Basic infoAge: 27Experience: RookieHeight: 6’2Weight: 218Cap StatusThe 49ers signed Wishnowsky to his rookie contract only a few days after drafting him. As a fourth-round pick, Wishnowsky received a $764,072 signing bonus. He will receive a $495,000 base salary in 2019.What to expect in 2019Expectations are high. Virtually every analyst who has written, spoken Steve Young Jersey , or tweeted about Wishnowsky has been effusive in their praise. He had a strong performance in OTAs and minicamp, and punt returner Trent Taylor praised him. He brings a host of styles that he learned in Australia, and he has been compared extensively to the Seattle Seahawks’ own Australian-born punter, Michael Dickson.Wishnowsky will also be Robbie Gould’s holder, and it would appear he will handle kickoffs, too.Odds of making the rosterHe’s going to be on the roster and starting as the punter and likely as the kickoff specialist. It now comes down to just how good he can be. Can he meet the expectations that come with being compared to Dickson? He should be an improvement over Pinion, but just how much? His ceiling appears to be considerably higher? We’re going to look at departures from each position prior to Week 1 of the 2018 season and see how they fared after leaving the San Francisco 49ers. Some players went on to better careers, while others may be out of the league. We won’t be highlighting every transaction, just some notable ones. Today, we look at the wide receivers. This is going to be difficult. The 49ers wide receivers had one of the most competitive units heading into 2018 training camp. They couldn’t hold onto everybody. It was a fun game here with the community as we guessed which receivers would be the odd men out when final cuts to the 53-man roster were established and no list was quite the same. The reason this gets difficult is because there were a lot of training camp transactions and practice squad sign-offs. If you look strictly at the wide receivers left to walk in free agency, there aren’t very many. The one name to note that left during the season is Victor Bolden Jr. He was suspended for a PED violation and upon returning was sent to the practice squad. He is no longer with the team, but that was due to being signed off the practice squad in December by the Buffalo Bills. If you thought he wouldn’t get anywhere better than the practice squad after his PED suspension you were kidding yourself. So that’s where we stress the following: these departures are not complete and do not include all transactions following final roster cuts. There were practice squad additions, poaching, releases—you name it Marquise Goodwin Jersey , and the wide receivers was a group that got the brunt of it. For the most part, we tried to focus on players that compiled a single stat of any kind on gameday. Louis MurphyDeAndre CarterAldrick RobinsonAldrick RobinsonProbably the better of the departures, Robinson came to the 49ers from the Atlanta Falcons. Seen as a veteran and someone to help get the unit up to speed with Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Robinson finished 2017 with 19 receptions for 260 yards. He was released in 2018 in final roster cuts and signed with the Minnesota Vikings in mid-September. With the Vikings, Robinson had near-identical numbers to his year in San Francisco, 17 receptions 230 yards. He signed a contract for just the 2018 season, so he is a free agent. Louis MurphyYou’re may be wondering who Louis Murphy is. Well, he’s the guy who helped usher in the era of Garoppolo by doing this. For the rest of 2017, Murphy established some solid rapport with Garoppolo and finished the season with 128 yards. Nothing to light the world on fire, but he had some nice catches. Following the 2017 season, Murphy found himself out of a job. He signed a one-year deal and was not brought back, by any team in the NFL. Given his age (31) his NFL career may be over. Would you like to have any of these wide receivers back on the team?

Game of the Decade!! Maybe the Game of the Millennium!!!Or White Jeremy Kerley Jerseys , very possibly, a big dud.Until their flop in Miami on Monday night, the way the New England Patriots were performing was the way so many predicted they would heading into the season: a powerhouse. And how the Pittsburgh Steelers were squeezing past inferior foes brought into question whether they could slow down the Foxborough freight train. Then the Dolphins did so one day after the Steelers needed another late rally to edge archrival Baltimore and clinch the AFC North. So while Sunday’s contest at Heinz Field will almost certainly decide the top seed in the AFC, it’s not exactly Ali-Frazier, two undefeated heavyweights facing off.“It’s good to be in big games than be in ones nobody’s watching,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says. “We better be appreciative of this spot and not resist it in any way. This is what we’ve been fighting for since March. Why would you fight that? It’s an awesome thing.”Forget their `A’ game, which the Steelers (11-2) seem to have misplaced for much of the past two months despite winning eight straight, with a half-dozen of them close (decided by one, three, three, three, five and six points. They will need their `AAA game’ against New England (10-3), which knows a loss eliminates it from topping the conference heading into the postseason.“It’s all about us being prepared to play Pittsburgh,” Patriots safety Devin McCourty says, mimicking his coach. “All the extra stuff comes with it, but it’s just if we worry about the playoffs, we’ll go down there and we’ll get killed, honestly.”The action got started Thursday night in a game with no playoff implications, the Denver Broncos’ 25-13 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Brock Osweiler threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in relief of the injured Trevor Siemian, and C.J. Anderson rushed for 158 yards on 30 carries as Denver (5-9) won its second straight and handed the Colts (3-11) their fifth consecutive loss. Siemian injured his left shoulder in the first quarter and did not return.Los Angeles Chargers (7-6) at Kansas City (7-6), Saturday nightWin this and you have the inside track to the AFC West title. That would have seemed very impressive in the summer, when this was thought to be the NFL’s best sector. Instead, it’s so mediocre that the winner probably will be a No. 4 seed in the playoffs.Kansas City had a 24-20 win in September, when it was starting off 5-0. It broke a four-game slide with a big victory over Oakland last week. The Bolts have been, well, charging Jeremy Kerley Jerseys 2019 , winning four straight and seven of nine, their best nine-game stretch since 2010. But they’ve dropped seven in a row to the Chiefs.Dallas (7-6) at Oakland (6-7)Oakland might need to win out for any shot at the postseason. Same for Dallas, chasing a wild card in the much-stronger NFC.With star RB Zeke Elliott suspended for one more game, the combination of Dak Prescott throwing to Jason Witten and Dez Bryant has been the focal point on offense. Prescott’s coming off his first 300-yard passing game of the season with a career-high 332 against the woeful Giants. After fizzling in KC, Oakland needs to rediscover its offense and get pressure on Prescott from Bruce Irvin and Khalil Mack.Los Angeles Rams (9-4) at Seattle (8-5)The Rams lost two of four in the midst of a very difficult stretch. Now, the key division matchup with the banged-up, penalty-prone Seahawks.Seattle, whose air of invincibility at home has been punctured with two losses in the past three, won the first meeting and would have the tiebreaker with a repeat. This easily could come down to Russell Wilson , making a late run for league MVP, lighting up the skies against Rams QB Jared Goff, one of the NFL’s most-improved players in 2017.LA is 3-0 after a loss; the Eagles beat the Rams last Sunday.Green Bay (7-6) at Carolina (9-4)Huge one for both sides, and this time the Packers head into it with Aaron Rodgers back at quarterback.Recovered from his broken collarbone — Green Bay stayed relevant without him, going 3-4 — Rodgers might have some rust. Still, was there ever any doubt he would replace Brett Hundley when his wing was healed?“Hopefully it gives a lift to some of the guys but I’m not coming back to save this team,” Rodgers said. “I’m coming back to play quarterback the way I know how to play it.”Rodgers will face a formidable defense that includes end Julius Peppers, who left Green Bay for a return to Carolina this season and has 5 sacks in the past four games against his former team, and LB Luke Kuechly (100 tackles in six straight seasons.)New York Jets (5-8) at New Orleans (9-4)New Orleans owns the tiebreaker over Carolina thanks to a season sweep, and gets fortunate here. Josh McCown, having the best season of his lengthy, vagabond pro career, has a broken hand, so untested Bryce Petty gets the start. The Saints lost two of their past three, against top-level opponents, so they aren’t likely to fall into any traps. Their well-balanced and top-ranked offense could go wild against the inconsistent Jets, and no team has improved more on D than Nawlins.Atlanta (8-5) at Tampa Bay (4-9) White Micah Hyde Jerseys , Monday nightWhile the Buccaneers spiral enough to put coach Dirk Koetter’s job security in question, it’s the defending NFC champ Falcons who have been maddeningly up and down. Get this: Atlanta is 4-3 in its new, billion dollar palace. That means the Monday night spotlight should be fine, especially for WR Julio Jones. He had a season-best 12 receptions for 253 yards and two TDs against the Bucs three weeks ago — his NFL-record third game with 250-plus yards receiving. No other receiver in league history has more than one.Cincinnati (5-8) at Minnesota (10-3)Vikings will secure NFC North crown for second time in three seasons by winning, and the Bengals have never won in five trips to Minnesota. Cincinnati didn’t even show up at home last Sunday in being routed by the Bears. Yes, the Bears.Minnesota’s defense had an off day at Carolina, but is formidable enough to win big. The combined record of teams the Vikings have lost to is 27-12. Combined record of teams the Bengals have beaten, counting the Browns twice, is 14-51.Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was the defensive coordinator for the Bengals under current coach Marvin Lewis from 2008-2013. And here’s a strange stat: Lewis has never lost to any former assistant, going 6-0-1.Philadelphia (11-2) at New York Giants (2-11)An Eagles victory and a Vikings loss makes Philly the place to go through in the NFC playoffs. Of course, Eagles fans mostly are looking at the bleak side: Carson Wentz, the superb young quarterback who has engineered much of this year’s turnaround, tore his left ACL at the Rams and is done for the season. Then again, Philly probably could suit up Ron Jaworski instead of Nick Foles and win this by letting its top-notch defense loose against the beleaguered Giants. The Eagles have won six of seven and 15 of the past 19 against the Giants.Houston (4-9) at Jacksonville (9-4)OK, take a deep breath and listen: Jacksonville clinches a playoff berth with a win. It can even get in with help in other cities despite a loss. Not only that, the Jaguars, with their terrific pass rush and strong ground game, have a shot at a first-round playoff bye.“To be at the bottom and to finally fight our way, work our way and get back up, just to be in the position that we’re at now, it’s great and it shows you that we’ve finally started to earn the right to win,” linebacker Paul Posluszny says. “Now we want more.”Houston might have been in position for more in 2017 had the injury bug not ravaged the roster. The Texans, already minus brilliant DE J.J. Watt and excellent LB Whitney Mercilus, are down to their third quarterback, T.J. Yates.Tennessee (8-5) at San Francisco (3-10)The Titans can’t afford a stumble against the suddenly competitive Niners.San Francisco lost its first nine, but now has won three of four. Jimmy Garoppolo is playing like he will fill that franchise QB role the Niners hoped he would when they dealt with New England to get him.Tennessee has a showdown in Music City in Week 17 with the Jaguars. The Titans can make that a winner-take-the-division matchup if they beat San Francisco and then the Rams in Nashville next week.Miami (6-7) at Buffalo (7-6)After stunning New England Micah Hyde Jerseys 2019 , the Dolphins go to a place they don’t much like, particularly in December. RB Kenyan Drake has emerged and receiver Jarvis Landry remains steady. The defense befuddled Brady last Monday night, and expected starter Tyrod Taylor is no Brady.Bills star LeSean McCoy probably has been doing a snow dance all week. He was dominant in last weekend’s 13-7 overtime win a blizzard against Indianapolis, the second time in his career the running back has dashed through the snow like that.Baltimore (7-6) at Cleveland (0-13)A sputtering offense came to life for the Ravens at Pittsburgh, where they should have won to make them a solid leader for a wild card. Even if that attack goes back to its previous ways, seeing Baltimore destroy much of its postseason chances in this one is unlikely. A 3-0 finish gets the Ravens in.A 3-0 finish would be miraculous for the Browns, the first team in NFL history to start 0-13 in consecutive seasons.Chicago (4-9) at Detroit (7-6), SaturdayAlthough the Lions are mathematically in the NFC playoff chase, they sure don’t look much like a threat. Except, perhaps, to the Bears: Detroit has won eight of nine vs. Chicago.Bears running back Jordan Howard is the first in franchise history to rush for 1,000-plus yards in each of his first two seasons.Arizona (6-7) at Washington (5-8)Of interest here — wait, we’ll find something — is Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson, who needs one rushing TD to reach 100 and 37 yards to pass the great Jim Brown (12,312) on the career rushing list. But Peterson is battling a neck problem that could sideline him for the final three games.43<button class="view-gallery">View Gallery</button> Gallery:PHOTOS: 2017 Dallas Cowboys CheerleadersMatthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports | Matthew Emmons ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills safety Micah Hyde did his best Wednesday to mask whatever bitterness he once had toward the Green Bay Packers in preparing to face his former team for the first time since his departure.“I’ve got nothing but love for the organization,” Hyde said following practice as the Bills (1-2) prepare to travel to play Green Bay (1-1-1) on Sunday. “I wouldn’t say it was a wound. I wouldn’t say I was cut open.”And yet, that’s exactly the opposite of what the sixth-year player told two reporters in November, some 10 months after signing a five-year contract with the Bills in free agency.Hyde was so upset upon learning the Packers weren’t going to make an offer to re-sign him with six games left in the 2016 season, he said: “It was like someone stabbed me in the back.”Standing alone at his locker Wednesday, after insisting he bore no ill will toward the Packers, Hyde broke into a laugh upon being reminded of his previous comments.“Do you have proof?” he asked, before acknowledging what he said.“Maybe,” Hyde told The Associated Press, “I put a Band-Aid on it and it’s healed up since then.”As a team leader, Hyde is in no position to stir up bad blood or create bulletin-board material in preparing to face an Aaron Rodgers-led offense at a time Buffalo’s defense is beginning to show signs of jelling. After allowing 75 points and 653 yards through the first six quarters of the season White Patrick DiMarco Jerseys , the Bills have bounced back by allowing nine points and 375 yards over the past six quarters. It’s a stretch capped by a 27-6 win at Minnesota on Sunday, in which Buffalo forced three takeaways and limited the Vikings to 14 yards rushing — matching the second-fewest allowed in team history.“I feel like the last six quarters was our brand of football,” Hyde said. “The first six quarters, I can’t answer for that. But it’s good to see we’re making strides, getting better.”And he understands the progress can be easily derailed by Rodgers, even if the quarterback might be limited by a left knee injury.“I’ll take Aaron Rodgers hobbling over most of the quarterbacks in the league,” Hyde said. “He still has the intelligence, has the arm. He’s going to get it done regardless.”Rodgers hasn’t forgotten what Hyde can do either.“Look at the time he spent with us. He played corner for us and made big plays. He played safety and made big plays, returned punts,” Rodgers said. “You hate to see a guy like that go.”Packers coach Mike McCarthy called Hyde “a stud,” while saying there was “a business aspect” to why Green Bay didn’t re-sign him.Hyde played a jack-of-all-trades role during his four seasons in Green Bay after being selected in the fifth round of the 2013 draft. He played safety and cornerback and also returned three punts for touchdowns. That wasn’t enough for the Packers to keep him, which led to the Bills making Hyde an offer on the first day of the free-agency signing period.Hyde immediately formed a bond with safety Jordan Poyer, another free-agent addition, and rookie first-round pick cornerback Tre’Davious White. The three combined for 14 of Buffalo’s 18 interceptions, tied for the sixth-most in the NFL last season. Hyde had a career-best five interceptions to earn his first All-Pro selection by being named to the second team.He credited his success to being able to focus on playing just one role, while also fueled by how his tenure ended in Green Bay.“When a team doesn’t want you, and basically tells you straight up they don’t want you, it’s kind of like motivation to keep getting better,” Hyde said. The secondary has struggled this season by having already given up seven touchdowns passing, after allowing just 14 last year.Hyde hopes the Bills can build off how they played against Minnesota. What he doesn’t care for is having the focus placed on his return to Lambeau Field.“We’re 1-2, coming off a big win. We’re trying to get this thing rolling,” Hyde said. “It’s not about Micah Hyde going back to Lambeau. It’s about the Buffalo Bills playing the Green Bay Packers for a win.”

However, teams who could be a bumper crop of cornerbacks who are intriguing developmental prospects -- particularly when it comes to big, long, physical former wide receivers. As it stands now, the New York Giants do need to look at the cornerback position for the future, but they might be okay for the present. That would put them in the group of teams who could be looking for mid-round prospects who could develop into starters. Both James Bettcher and Dave Gettleman have shown an affinity for long corners, and Justin Layne of Michigan State could catch their eye as a long press-man corner .MeasurablesProsUncommon length for the position. 6-foot 1 戮 inches, 33-inch arms. Good technique in press coverage.Good hips to stay in tight coverage with receivers. Uses length well to disrupt at the catch point. Willing run defender.Quick to come downhill against underneath throws.ConsNeeds to improve awareness of blockers in space. Can get lost in zone coverage.A bit slow-footed and leggy in his backpedal. Can make transitions difficult against quicker receivers.Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying - Kyle Krabbs (The Draft Network - Scouting Report) Does He Fit The Giants? If the Giants want to lean on press-man coverage as the backbone of their defense, the Layne certainly fits. He also fits the Giants’ archetype of big, long, athletic defenders and has an uncommon blend of size and athleticism for the position. He is one of several converted wide receivers in this draft class Authentic George Asafo-Adjei Jersey , and shows it with his recognition of route concepts and when to make a play on a receiver preparing to catch the ball. He needs to improve in zone coverage, both in his foot quickness and awareness -- he sometimes loses track of blockers while in pursuit -- but he does have the agility and burst to be effective there with good coaching. Layne has remarkably similar measurables to Sam Beal, who the Giants selected with their (natural) third round pick during the 2018 Supplemental Draft, and they could view Layne as a potential Day 2 pick to develop alongside Beal. He remembers “Growing up watching the D-line, (former Giants DE) Justin Tuck, and (former Giants DE) Michael Strahan, and (former Giants DT) Fred Robbins, (former Giants DE) Osi Umenyiora. Growing up just watching them kind of inspired me.”That turned him into a Giants fan and turned being selected 17th overall by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday into a “great moment.”Now, the 6-foot-4 George Asafo-Adjei Jersey Boys , 342-pound defensive lineman is aiming to take his place among those storied linemen.“My goal is to come in day one and challenge the defensive line as being the greatest unit in the world kind of thing,” Lawrence said. “That’s just kind of what my mindset is going to be and what is has been since I’ve been in high school. Let’s not settle, let’s go get it. Right now, I’m real happy to be a Giant.”Per Sports Info Solutions, Lawrence had zero tackle attempts broken in 2018. Here are some of the other things Lawrence touched on during a brief conference call with New York media on Thursday night. On comparisons to Damon Harrison ...The Giants, of course, traded ‘Snacks’ to the Detroit Lions last season.“I feel like my game is very powerful, a smart player, non-quit effort kind of guy. That’s just my mindset every play, and how I want to attack every snap.”On the idea that he isn’t a pass rusher ...Lawrence had 6.5 sacks in 2016, but only 4.5 over the past two seasons.“I do consider myself a pass rusher,” he said. “I just got to unlock it Infant George Asafo-Adjei Jersey , that’s all. A lot of times, I didn’t set myself up for things. I know that’ll be the difference, and that’s a big focus of mine is to stop all the doubting.”Lawrence said a 2017 foot injury limited his mobility.“I feel like my sophomore year, I was battling an injury playing on one leg kind of deal. My junior season, I got my confidence back a lot more the second half of the season. The first half of the season, I was kind of timid on it a little bit, but I’ve gotten over that hump,” he said. “I got a screw in my fifth metatarsal, but that had healed. The problem was they did a nerve block in the back of my leg and it irritated the nerves in my leg and I couldn’t do a toe raise or push-off with it or do anything with it for like a year and a month.”On his 2018 suspension for a failed drug test ...Lawrence missed both the Cotton Bowl and the National Championship Game. He said he had to explain what happened in “every meeting, everywhere I went, every media source” during the draft process.“It was something I had to deal with. It was unfortunate that happened to me. I was innocent, but God had a plan for me and I felt like that helped people learn who I truly was George Asafo-Adjei Jersey Draft ,” Larence said. “It got people to know me, I got to express myself. I had the choice to go to the media, I didn’t have to, but I wanted to so that I make the narrative kind of deal and not let people put their little spin on things that they do.”On Daniel Jones ...Lawrence has played against the quarterback the Giants took sixth overall.“I like him a lot. Playing against him when we played Duke, I gained a lot of respect for him,” Lawrence said. “He did not quit and he’s deceptively fast. His arm is really accurate, I feel like a lot of his balls were dropped so his stats weren’t really there watching film, but I think he’s really special.”

Jackson, Keion Crossen on its 53-man roster Over the course of the summer, cornerback established itself as arguably the most competitive position on the New England Patriots’ roster. Multiple players were fighting for spots on the team behind roster locks Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe and second-round rookie Duke Dawson. It now looks like three of the team’s offseason acquisitions have made the cut and will start 2018 on the team via multiple reports:The Patriots added McCourty via trade earlier this offseason, invested a day three draft selection in Crossen, and signed Jackson as an undrafted rookie. Now Color Rush Kendarius Webster Jersey , all three will compete for playing time on the Patriots’ 53-man roster.McCourty has shown positional versatility over the past two preseason games and will be able to serve as a depth option at cornerback and safety, while both Crossen and Jackson had some very good moments during training camp and the preseason. NEW YORK (AP) — The Rams have turned the opening quarter of the NFL’s regular season into their own version of “La La Land.”The Rams have gotten off to a dominant start. They are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents by a league-leading combined 73 points so far this season and have the NFL’s most potent offense, averaging 468.5 yards a game. All of that adds up to the Rams repeating as the unanimous top team in the latest AP Pro32 poll .For the second consecutive week, the Rams received all 12 first-place votes and 384 points in balloting Tuesday by media members who regularly cover the NFL.The Rams leave Hollywood, heading out on the road for the next three weeks, as they look to stay perfect.“The Rams are 4-0 for the first time since 2001 Youth Kendarius Webster Jersey , which is fitting, because (coach) Sean McVay and (quarterback) Jared Goff are putting on their own great offensive show,” said Jenny Vrentas of The Monday Morning Quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs, who overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to top the Denver Broncos 27-23 on Monday night, remained at No. 2.“Patrick Mahomes does things every week that leave you awe-inspired,” Newsday’s Bob Glauber said. “A modern-day Brett Favre Womens Kendarius Webster Jersey , Mahomes brought back the Chiefs against the Broncos with some of the best playmaking you’ll ever see from an NFL quarterback.”The Jacksonville Jaguars inched up a spot to No. 3 after routing the New York Jets 31-12. The Jaguars face the Chiefs on Sunday in the top matchup of Week 5.Running back Leonard Fournette might not play for the Jaguars because of a hamstring injury. He already has missed 2½ games with the injury.“Worries about Fournette’s hammy,” Fox Sports’ John Czarnecki said. The New Orleans Saints also moved up a spot to No. 4 after beating the New York Giants 33-18 and will close out the week against another NFC East opponent when they host Washington on Monday night.“As Drew Brees closes in on the NFL record book, the Saints are rolling since that Week 1 shocker against Tampa Bay,” said Ira Kaufman of Fox 13 in Tampa, Florida. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, tied atop the AFC North at 3-1 Authentic Kendarius Webster Jersey , both made major moves in the poll. The Ravens jumped four spots to No. 5 after topping the rival Pittsburgh Steelers 26-14 on Sunday night. The Bengals climbed six spots to No. 6 after rallying past the Atlanta Falcons 37-36 on Andy Dalton’s TD pass to A.J. Green with 7 seconds remaining. The New England Patriots moved up three spots to No. 7 after pounding the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins 38-7. The Patriots (2-2) are the highest-ranked team with a .500 record. They will open Week 5 on Thursday night, when they host Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. The AFC East-leading Dolphins (3-1) plummeted nine spots to No. 15 and are the lowest-ranked team with a winning record. The Chicago Bears moved up eight spots to No. 8 after dominating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48-10 as Mitchell Trubisky threw six touchdown passes. The NFC North-leading Bears have a bye this week before facing Miami on Oct. 14.“Not only are the Bears good now,” said Alex Marvez of The Sporting News. “The best is yet to come with Mitch Trubisky.”The Carolina Panthers, who are coming off their bye week, slipped two spots to No. 9. They will host the Giants on Sunday. The Tennessee Titans (3-1), who share first place in the AFC South with the Jaguars Kendarius Webster Jersey Boys , jumped up five spots to round out the top 10.

FLORHAM PARK Darron Lee Jerseys 2019 , N.J. (AP) — Sam Darnold is wrapping up his rookie season with glimpses of greatness.First, Aaron Rodgers.Next, Tom Brady. The New York Jets quarterback’s final two opponents are among the best to play the position, and Darnold appreciates the situation he’s in. After a solid performance last week in an overtime loss to Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers , Darnold will head to New England to face Brady and the playoff-bound Patriots on Sunday.“Yeah, there’s always something there whenever you’re playing Brady, guys like Rodgers and everything like that,” Darnold said. “For me, I grew up watching those two play and dominate, so at the same time White Jordan Jenkins Jersey , I’m not just going to ignore the fact that I’m playing those guys. I know that I am and I want to step up, but at the same time, every single game, that’s my mentality.”It has been an up-and-down first season for the No. 3 overall draft pick. But the arrow has been pointing up the last three weeks.Since returning from a foot injury that sidelined him for three games, Darnold has been one of the NFL’s most efficient quarterbacks. He’s 64 of 97 (66 percent) for 764 yards and six TDs with just one INT in his last three outings.“I think he plays one play at a time,” offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates said. “I think he’s good from start to finish. The guy doesn’t change, (he’s) by no means a roller coaster. He doesn’t get up at certain moments. He takes every play like it’s the most important play. If it’s a handoff in the run game or a pass, I just think he’s steady and when the big plays present themselves, he’s able to hit them.”Perhaps the most glaring improvement in recent weeks has been his ability to successfully operate the play-action game after primarily running a shotgun-style in college at USC.That has added an exciting new element to Darnold’s game, and one that Bates believes the young QB will continue to improve upon.“When you’re in shotgun Jordan Jenkins Jersey 2019 , you’re watching the defense, you’re seeing the looks and for a split-second you’re taking your eyes off and it’s a complete 180,” Bates said. “I think you’ve just got to get used to it. You have to be able to flip your eyes and recognize if it’s (Cover) 2 or if it’s (Cover) 3 and Sam is getting faster, he’s recognizing the coverages as soon as he flips.”Darnold acknowledged it took him some time to adjust to running some play-action, and thinks he has noticeably improved.“But I think it’s also a credit to our offensive line, our running backs and our receivers really in the run game,” he said. “Being able to set up the pass with the run is the biggest thing in that area and I think we’ve been doing a good job at that.”That’s the type of thing that has made the Jets and their fans so optimistic despite the team’s dismal 4-11 record.Darnold was drafted to be a potential franchise-type quarterback, and he has shown signs of building toward that after a miserable midseason stretch just before he was sidelined. According to SB Nation’s FanPulse survey, 76% of Jets fans have confidence in the direction of the team. That is a big increase over the 55% confidence rating the last time we measured White Kelechi Osemele Jerseys , which was after the Draft. In that time the Jets brought in a general manager considered to be a rising front office star, which probably accounts for some of the jump. Additionally, Sam Darnold had a strong training camp and is off to a good start in the preseason. Only 34% of Jets fans were confident at the end of the 2018 season so things seem to be looking up.Additionally we asked which 2018 division champion is least likely to repeat this year. The winner was the Baltimore Ravens at 27.37% slightly edging out the Dallas Cowboys at 26.52%. Unfortunately the Patriots were the lowest. Only 1.90% of fans polled think they are the least likely to repeat. If you want to be part of FanPulse, you can sign up here.

In late January for the last 11 years Anthony Nelson Tampa Bay Buccaneers , it has been draft season in Tampa Bay. One can only hope that playoff drought will soon come to an end, but lets be honest, everyone loves them some mock drafts. NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks released his first mock draft this offseason and his pick could come as a surprise to some Buccaneer fans. With the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Devin White, linebacker, LSU. Now, the reason I say this may come as a surprise is because many people expect Kwon Alexander to be back with the team, but if the Buccaneers opt to go a different direction, White does indeed make a ton of sense. Outside of Lavonte David, the Buccaneers don’t have a sure thing under contract at linebacker next season. Look at what happened to the Colts defense after they drafted Darius Leonard at linebacker. There whole defense turned around. I would be okay with this pick if the Buccaneers didn’t resign Kwon O. J. Howard Jersey , but if they do, this pick would make little sense.Click here for the full first round of his mock draft. Shaquem Griffin deservedly received the bulk of the attention when the Seattle Seahawks drafted the star linebacker with one hand in the fifth round and reunited him with his twin brother Shaquill. But aside from Griffin's selection, general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll made clear the Seahawks intent to re-establish the core tenants of how they want to play: run the ball, play aggressive defense and rely on field position. It started in the first round with the selection of San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny and continued through the nine selections made. After an eventful offseason that's seen Seattle overhaul its coaching staff and say goodbye to some key veterans, the Seahawks needed to have a successful draft. Recent drafts have been filled with more misses than hits and started to catch up with Seattle last season when the depth wasn't there to overcome key injuries."We feel like we made great decisions all the way through and we'll see how it goes. You always feel that way right after," Schneider said. Here's what else to know about Seattle's nine picks, including seven on the final day:END OF THE ROAD: The end may be near for the longest-tenured Seahawks player.Seattle traded up in the fifth round to draft Texas punter Michael Dickson, who left school early for a chance at the NFL. Dickson was regarded as the top punter available in the draft and could be a sign that Jon Ryan's tenure in Seattle is coming to an end. Ryan has been with the team since 2008 and has two years left on his contract with Seattle but counts $3.2 million against the salary cap in 2018 and $3.6 million in 2019.Both Carroll and Schneider insisted Ryan will be part of the punting competition.Dickson averaged 47.4 yards per punt as a junior, was a two-time Big 12 special teams player of the year, and was the Ray Guy Award winner in 2017. Perhaps most impressive Justin Evans Jersey , Dickson was the MVP of the Texas Bowl victory over Missouri after downing 10 of his 11 punts inside the 20-yard line."He can do stuff with the ball we haven't seen yet so we're really intrigued to see how that translates," Schneider said.RUNNIN' DOWN A DREAM: Seattle continued to focus on improving its run game on offense by drafting Washington tight end Will Dissly in the fourth round."We thought he was the best blocker in the draft," Carroll said.Dissly arrived at Washington as a defensive end but transitioned to tight end for his final two seasons. While blocking is his strength, Dissly also had 21 receptions and two TDs as a senior. Dissly is the first Washington player drafted by the Seahawks since another tight end, Jerramy Stevens, was selected in the first round in 2002.POSTION SWITCH: It wouldn't be a Seattle draft without at least one player switching positions. But this one makes sense as the Seahawks intend to use Tre Flowers at cornerback. Flowers was primarily a safety at Oklahoma State, but his size makes him a perfect fit for cornerback in Seattle. Flowers is 6-foot-3 with long arms and has experience playing some cornerback in college.SLIDING DOWN: A gem of Seattle's draft could end up being Ohio State offensive tackle Jamarco Jones, selected late in the fifth round. Jones was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 3 offensive tackle available in the draft, but was taken with the 168th overall selection. Seattle projects Jones as a left tackle.QB CALLING: For just the second time in nine drafts, the Seahawks used a draft pick on a quarterback. Florida International QB Alex McGough was selected with Seattle's final pick Chris Godwin Jersey , No. 220 overall in the seventh round. Seattle indicated this may be the year it takes a QB to develop behind Russell Wilson, the only other QB drafted by the team since 2010. McGough threw for 2,791 yards and 17 TDs as a senior, but suffered a broken collarbone in the opening minutes of FIU's bowl game in December.McGough did run some read-option in college and his mobility makes him a logical backup option to Wilson.STILL NEED: The Seahawks addressed their most pressing needs, but could still use more depth at linebacker and an offensive lineman with the ability to play center. The other area Seattle may look to target among undrafted free agents could be a bigger wide receiver, but this draft clearly defined the Seahawks are going back to relying on the run first.

TwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailOne of the storylines we’ll be sure to follow in 2019 is DeForest Buckner. One year ago, we were calling him DPOY around these parts and campaigning for him to get Defensive Player of the Year. He didn’t quite get to that status, but he was still a force on the field, the only thing more impressive than Buckner on the field was the disrespect he got from the media and analysts off it. DPOY or not (he wasn’t), Buckner was omitted from anything defensive line related to the point where it was near ridiculous. It got me wondering, forget defense, where do you rank DeForest Buckner among the 2016 draft class? There were some amazing players out of that class. Jalen Ramsey K'Waun Williams Jersey , Michael Thomas, Joey Bosa; terrific players.Where would you put Buckner on that list? Was he one of the top 10? You might be wondering why I ask this. Over at NFL.com, analyst David Carr wanted to try this analysis thing again with his top-10 players out of the 2016 draft class. Buckner isn’t on the list. We all can accept that Buckner is not the best player out of that class when you look at that crop of names above. Not top-5, maybe the end of the top-10. Maybe. It still seems strange when at the end of the list he’s debating on putting Derrick Henry on it. Sorry, but Buckner was far better than Henry. You might be wondering why I bring this Carr article up. Well for one thing, it’s David Carr. The same guy who said Joe Montana was not a top-10 quarterback. That alone does not bode well for your credibility. For another, is Buckner still not getting respect? Given the depth of the 2016 draft class leaving Buckner off of it in favor of someone else could be apples to oranges. But when you’re considering Henry at No. 10 Womens Arik Armstead Jersey , the entire list is going to come under question. Look at the 2016 draft class. Where do you think DeForest Buckner falls with it? Would he be a top-10 player? Heck, I don’t know. What do you think? How hot is Robert Saleh’s seat? The San Francisco 49ers have issues on both sides of the ball, but it seems a lot of the rage has been aimed at the defense. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’ unit hasn’t been putting up the numbers one would like. The 49ers are averaging 29.2 points per game (29th)and are ranked 24th in sacks. They are tied for dead last in interceptions and in the back half of the league (a massive tie at 18th) for fumbles recovered. Those last two stats didn’t improve at all on Sunday. While the offense turned the ball over regularly, the defense could not get a takeaway if dire circumstances depended on it. While they managed to keep the Cardinals from operating after the opening touchdown (we have the offense’s five turnovers to thank for things going sideways), they still weren’t able to get any takeaways. Then of course, there’s the first play of the Cardinals opening drive that led to a touchdown. 49ers safety Adrian Colbert shouldered the blame, but some of these miscommunications and bad decisions need to fall on someone other than the players. Is Saleh under the microscope?49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has been supportive of Saleh’s play-calling and scheme http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-montana-jersey , saying that the players need to execute things better. But when does the lack of execution and miscommunications turn into bad coaching? And will someone be going down with the ship after this season ends? Keep in mind, this is a rebuild. The 49ers are trying to keep consistency for once, which includes the defensive coordinator. Some fans like Saleh’s defense and others I’ve noticed can’t stand it. I think we’ll return to this through the rest of the season, but I want to see what everyone thinks of Saleh’s seat right now. Therefore I have the heat-o-meter:

With eight voters, you’ll end up with a guy like Linebacker Mark Nzeocha getting a vote in the 30s as well as the 80s. That’s the beauty of this sport. Two people can watch the same player, or play, even, and come away with two completely different takeaways. We are on to the next ten players, featuring a UDFA that got Fred Warner’s attention this spring.80. Malik Henry, WR (High: 64, Low: 80, KP: 78)Henry is caught up in a numbers game. He’s also 178 pounds. He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash, so the speed isn’t an issue. It is quite the jump to go from West Georgia to the NFL. Henry will have to put on a show early and often to get noticed by a team that spent two early draft picks on wide receivers.79. LaRoy Reynolds, LB (High: 76, Low: 86, KP: 83)This will be Reynolds’ seventh team since 2013.78. Max McCaffrey, WR (High: 70, Low: 82, KP: 70)With the additions at wide receiver, it’ll be tough for McCaffrey to make the roster. McCaffrey played a total of five snaps in 2018 for the 49ers. My prediction? McCaffrey leads the Niners in receiving yards. During the preseason.77. Kapron Lewis-Moore, DL (High: 69, Low: 85, KP: 79)Lewis-Moore didn’t play a snap during 2018. He hasn’t recorded a statistic since 2015. He finds himself on the outside looking in and is more than likely a camp body. Like the players mentioned above, Lewis-Moore is caught up in a numbers game. He would have to stand out to stick around into September. 76. Christian DiLauro, OT (High: 71, Low: 81, KP: 74)DiLauro was a UDFA on the Cleveland Browns a year ago. He did not play for them Mike Person Jersey White , though. He comes into 49ers camp trying to beat out the likes of Justin Skule, Daniel Brunskill, and Shon Coleman. Coleman has the experience and the skill so that will be tough sledding for DiLauro.75. Jamel Garcia-Williams, Edge (High: 72, Low: 88, KP: 80)The UDFA out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham gets a bump due to positional value. The Niners are looking for a third pass rusher that they can develop down the line. If Garcia-Williams can show enough splash plays during the preseason, he can be stashed on the practice squad and perhaps develop into that third rotational player.74. Alex Brown, CB ( High: 35, Low: 89, KP: 68)Brown received votes all over the place. He caught the attention of Fred Warner during spring. Warner mentioned Brown when I asked him what defender stood out. If you had given me 20 guesses, Brown would not have been one. Brown signed in the middle of May. He weighs 170 pounds, but if you check out his highlights, he plays much bigger than his 5-foot-11 frame. Possible sleeper? He ran a 4.44 40-yard dash and jumped over 41” in the vertical. Freak athlete. The kind the Niners seem to be betting on this year.73. Willie Beavers, OL (High: 62, Low: 88, KP: 65)Like Reynolds, Beavers has bounced around the league quite a bit. The 49ers will be his fourth team since the Vikings drafted him in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. Beavers has a better chance to make the team than some of the other offensive linemen listed above him, but he hasn’t stuck on a roster in three years for a reason.72. Tyree Robinson, S (High: 69, Low: 86, KP: 69)I was highest on Robinson because he plays safety for the Niners. He signed when the team was waiting on the injury status of Jaquiski Tartt back in December. Because of the injury history, he has a chance to at least stick around and make the roster. He has good size, but the team didn’t play him in the final weeks, and that says something.71. Kevin Givens, DT (High: 63, Low: 74, KP: 63)Givens is an undersized defensive tackle that went undrafted. He is known for being quick and making splash plays. I was highest on him because I do believe he has a sneaky good chance to make the roster Womens Y.A. Tittle Jersey , or at least stick around on the practice squad if he can do just enough during training camp. After Buckner, the only “3-tech” on the roster would be Solomon Thomas.90-81 roster rankings When it comes to the confidential settlement reached by and between the NFL, Colin Kaepernick, and Eric Reid, no one is saying anything. About anything.Beyond the announcements issued by the parties on Friday, the terms of which no doubt were written carefully, reviewed painstakingly, and approved warily, nothing else has been or will be provided, at least not anytime soon. Here’s one angle that, given the standard approach to settlement agreements, likely requires no confirmation from either side: Any potential grievance or other legal claim arising from Reid’s suspicion that he was targeted for PED testing in retaliation for his collusion claim most likely were waived as part of the resolution. Most settlement agreements include broad, sweeping language releasing the party writing the check from any and all liability, with broad and repetitive language aimed at encompassing all claims that were made and that could have been made, typically including a description of the period encompassed as “from the beginning of time to the date of this agreement.”But prospective waivers of liability can’t happen. If Reid believes that he’s being singled out for PED testing or substance-abuse testing or fines for on-field hits, he could (in theory) argue that the league is retaliating against him. It’s nevertheless possible that, as part of his settlement documents, Reid has signed an acknowledgement that he currently has no evidence of foul play as it relates to past PED testing and that all testing, fines, etc. were on the up and up. It’s not an absolute protection against future entanglements, but it becomes the best way to wipe the slate clean. The settlement agreement also could (and probably should) include an agreement pursuant to which Reid will make no allegations of retaliation absent evidence of retaliation, and that if he believes he’s the victim of retaliation he will say nothing about it publicly unless and until he files a formal grievance.Regardless of the specific language used, it’s likely the last we’ll hear of Reid thinking he’s been targeted for PED tests. If we do, it will mean either that Reid is violating his agreement or that the NFL’s lawyers didn’t do a very good job of drafting it.

If you watched any of the Florida Gators this season, it was hard to miss the dreadlocked speed demon flying off the edge. If you actively went looking for his film or his highlights, you were never disappointed. On the field, Polite was a stud.Off the field has been another story. Whilst his weigh in at the Combine seemed positive, it became clear once he started testing that Polite had added bad weight. Whether that directly caused his poor Combine & Pro Day testing or indirectly caused it by being a contributory factor towards him damaging his hamstring is largely unimportant. The addition of bad weight at a time when Polite needed to be in the shape of his life was justifiably the cause of criticism.Furthermore, he didn’t acquit himself particularly well in front of the media at the Combine (though not as badly as some made out), nor reportedly in team meetings. He did somewhat better in front of the media at Florida’s Pro Day in, demonstrating accountability, understanding and growth in this area at least.Polite’s weight gain, poor testing & disappointing interview performances seem to have confirmed the concerns of many that he might struggle to add good weight to enable him to play full time in the NFL and that he didn’t have the maturity or work ethic to succeed as a pro. As a result, he’s fallen from a likely first round pick to someone who could be available entering day three of the Draft. The true facts behind Polite’s poor showing in the draft process are probably significantly more complex than the suggestions he cannot add good weight and that he’s immature/has poor work ethic. This is the time that I’d love to say having spoken with Jachai or his team, the reason he has gained weight was X and/or Y. But without having been able to do that, one can only speculate and attempt to read between the lines from things that he has said. He has certainly mentioned that he was overawed by the draft process. This can be expected somewhat, he only turned 21 on March 30th. Clearly, there have been many players of Polite’s age who have acquitted themselves far better during the biggest and longest job interview of their lives, but it is unrealistic and arguably unfair to expect 20-21 year olds to all perform well during this process. Most people have screwed up interviews in their lives, especially if the interviewers started attacking them. To do so doesn’t actually make them immature or a poor candidate - to think this way continues the unfortunate and unfair trend of expecting standards of sportspeople that are simply not expected of the rest of us. We must therefore try not to be influenced too heavily by his reported performances in front of teams as well as his comments in the media. This overawed feeling during the draft process did not just extend to struggling to take criticism during team interviews and being damagingly candid about his frustration with those interviews in front of the media. It also seems like he or his advisors were affected by outside noise: First to add extra weight at this stage in his transition to the NFL to get ‘bigger & stronger’; then to go out and run at the Pro Day when he was clearly still injured, perhaps to try and demonstrate his widely questioned work ethic. These are decisions that with hindsight can certainly be criticised. To view the NFL Draft process in the context of one long interview is very important. In fact, the interview has essentially been dragged out over much of the players’ football playing life. Understandably, importance does have to be given, within reason, to the most recent information available on a player. Nevertheless, one certainly hopes that decision makers and fans alike can also look at a broader body of evidence than merely the four months of work that are decidedly not actual football after a player’s college career has ended. For Polite, those four months do not seem to have gone especially well. This was, however, in stark contrast to the four months that preceded them. The FilmOn the evidence of film alone, Polite is comfortably a top 5 EDGE player in this class. His combination of an elite get-off, bend, rapid cadence, explosive change of direction ability, a variety of pass rush moves and an understanding of his own game (regardless of whether he says he watches film of himself) made him the player I thought has the best chance to be the best pass rusher from this EDGE class. Polite received a pass rush grade of 91.0 from PFF this past season, had a pass rush productivity of 20 and recorded 40 total pressures on 250 rushes. Polite’s spin move is the best spin move in the class and one of the best we’ve seen come out in the draft in some time. It perfectly complements the threat he carries to the outside, which NFL tackles will have to respect in much the same way as their college counterparts. Not only can he win with speed, but he does have a long arm and bull rush in his locker. With NFL coaching these can certainly develop further. The fluidity of his movement skills ensure he’s a real danger for offensive tackles, ensuring he can be unpredictable with his approach such that tackles can never really set up for him. If he can improve his speed-power, this ability to subtly change direction as he moves will see even more tackles whiffing on him as they set for his power rush before getting hit by speed, or vice versa. He’s also a turnover machine, recording a forced fumble on over half his sacks in 2018 (6 forced fumbles on 11 sacks). For a team like the 49ers, who struggled to turn the ball over, a player who understands the importance of turning the ball over and actively targets it can make a real impression. His ability to stay in plays is also impressive. There is no doubt Polite is an inferior run defender than he is pass rusher. He can certainly be engulfed by larger tackles. But the hustle he shows as a pass rusher shows up as a run defender as well, and he certainly gets disrespected more as a run defender than he deserves. His athleticism also, unsurprisingly, comes in handy. The FitHow exactly should the 49ers reconcile his rough pre-draft process with his superb on field ability? Before the Combine, I truly believed Polite could justifiably be the 49ers pick at number two. Now however, the risk is simply too great based on what we have seen and know. To me, his range starts in the later first round, primarily amongst teams who are closer to success and able to take more of a risk on a prospect with immense upside. Finding a high quality EDGE rusher after the first half of the first round is generally nigh on impossible - there’s a reason the 49ers and the Chiefs have been willing to part with late first round, or early second round picks for two high calibre EDGE rushers with Pro Bowl or All-Pro ability. Polite has the talent to make an impact similar to those two players. The 49ers’ coaches, front office and fans are not a group that needs reminding what a lack of quality or depth at EDGE rusher does to a team’s chances of being elite.Beyond the attraction of playing the odds (the same way teams should do for quarterbacks, the upside of hitting on an EDGE is so high it’s worth the gamble), the 49ers themselves are in something of a unique team building situation Weston Richburg Jersey , making this approach more attractive. When healthy, they appear to be closer to success than their 2018 record suggests. They have their quarterback and several other high calibre players at important positions. They could and arguably should take a gamble on a high upside EDGE rusher, especially with their second round pick and even more certainly with their third round pick of Polite was still on the board at that stage. This is despite them already have Dee Ford, who is excellent but has had injury issues, and probably being in position to draft Nick Bosa. A three headed monster of Polite, Bosa & Ford could be incredibly dangerous and comparatively cheap.Whether or not the 49ers did pick Nick Bosa, the team also wouldn’t be reliant on Polite starting straight away - he could spend his first season as a specialist EDGE rusher - his best role early on. If the team did draft Bosa, he would likely be the first man to spell Bosa & Ford off the bench. Furthermore, whilst his weight gain may well have cost him money because of his poor testing and the effort/attitude questions created, it has given him a four month head start on the process that he would presumably have had to undergo after being drafted. This is significant and suggests he could be further along the process of adjusting to his NFL physique. That in itself is attractive.Over time, Polite could develop into a full time starter in the 49ers’ scheme, especially with the likely addition of further wide 9 elements as well as the continued use of the fronts the team used against the likes of the Rams with two stand up outside linebackers on the line of scrimmage. Perhaps in two years time, the team would feel comfortable moving on from Ford and keeping Bosa & Polite as their two primary EDGE players. Given the other options likely available at number two overall, Bosa or Quinnen Williams, the risk is certainly too great to take Polite at number two. However, the 49ers should seriously consider Polite if he’s on the board any time they pick after the late first round. Given the already unpredictable nature of the draft, the nature of Polite’s fit in San Francisco and his sensational upside, the risk at those points seems justified. We have already seen the 49ers gamble on elite upside on a falling player, Reuben Foster, and he seemingly had more significant red flags than Polite. Whilst their experiences with Foster could spook the team, it is also indicative of an organisation that is cognisant of the wildly unpredictable nature of the draft itself, the need to stock up on talent at crucial positions within their scheme as well as one that is willing to bet on high calibre film translating to the NFL.Furthermore, you get the sense a reunion with Bosa (if he is the 49ers pick at 2) might well be of interest鈥 YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Richard Sherman wasn’t overly enthused when he learned the San Francisco 49ers were spending an entire week in Ohio.Four days into their stay, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback is singing a different tune.“My kids keep telling me they’re mad that I left them in Santa Clara (California), but it’s worked out great for our team,” Sherman said Thursday after a two-hour afternoon practice at Youngstown State. “In terms of bonding, adjusting our body clock and the time change, it’s really going to help all of us on Sunday.”The 49ers traveled to Northeast Ohio following their 31-17 victory Sunday at Tampa Bay — instead of flying cross country from Florida — and will play at the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. They haven’t opened a season with back-to-back road wins in 30 years.San Francisco’s previous 2-0 start occurred in 2012, coincidentally the last time it visited Youngstown State. Current 49ers CEO Jed York was raised in the city and longtime owners the DeBartolo-York family are synonymous with the Mahoning Valley.“Our owners are from here and they’ve opened up everything for us, so we’re enjoying it,” cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon said. “It’s almost been like normal with the same shing-ding we do in Santa Clara, except having to get up when it’s like 4 in the morning at home. But even that’s good because we’ll be ready for it when we get to Cincinnati.”University officials welcomed the 49ers to campus, giving them locker rooms at Stambaugh Stadium, access to their weight-training area and the ability to hold three practices at their soccer and outdoor track stadium.Though the Penguins compete at the FCS level, their athletic facilities are on par with many mid-major NCAA programs.“I’ve told some of the guys, this isn’t your normal Division I-AA looking school, that’s for sure,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said. “I’ve been to a number of them and the stadium, weight room, whatever we’ve seen here, it’s pretty impressive. The whole week, it’s been good.”The business trip also has been a homecoming for fullback Kyle Juszczyk, a high school football standout at Lodi Cloverleaf, located 75 miles to the west in a largely rural community. The three-time Pro Bowl selection met his brother for lunch on San Francisco’s day off and has been his teammates’ go-to guy with questions about the myriad differences between Ohio and the congested Bay Area.“They’ve been joking about there being every kind of chain restaurant here, how far apart everything is spaced and the amount of farmland they’ve seen,” Juszczyk said. “I’ve had to stick up for myself a lot, but it’s been a nice opportunity for all of us and it’s always nice to come home.”The 49ers will check out of their hotel in suburban Boardman on Friday morning, then practice for the final time at Youngstown State before boarding a mid-afternoon flight to Cincinnati. It wouldn’t be surprising if Garoppolo stops at his new favorite ice cream parlor or tight end George Kittle picks up a box of chicken on their way out of town.“Youngstown State has been awesome and the Holiday Inn has been incredible, just a great week,” Iowa product Kittle said, breaking into a smile. “The best part of being back in the Midwest is you have every chain restaurant you could imagine here. Now, I’m not saying I’ve eaten at them all, but it’s nice just to know they’re there for you.”NOTES: Rookie DE Nick Bosa (high right ankle sprain) did not practice for the second straight day, but defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said he could play against the Bengals. The No. 2 overall pick sat out the preseason with the injury and had a sack at Tampa Bay. “He’s working with the performance staff trying to get ready for Sunday, so we’ll see,” Saleh said. “Nick is a football junkie, so I know he’s going to look hard at the tape from last week. I’m sure his pops also looks at the tape and I’m sure his brother (Chargers DE Joey Bosa) will look at the tape.” … WR Jalen Hurd (back), RB Tevin Coleman (ankle), WR Trent Taylor (foot) remain out.
The search is on for a new head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For weeks http://www.buccaneerslockerroom.com/authentic-adarius-glanton-jersey , just about everyone had been speculating and chiming in on the job security of Dirk Koetter. After official word he had been let go by the organization, we’ve been told Jason Licht will be leading the search for a new sideline leader with the aid of the Korn-Ferry Firm.Conversations about who could be hired to replace Koetter have already been going on, and now they’re about to peak.News about former Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians being willing to hear out the Bucs has only helped to increase the pace of the conversation.Bucs Nation’s own Evan Winter supports the idea of hiring Arians and has even gone on record writing,If you didn’t want this to happen before, you definitely should now.But what would it mean? Both coach Koetter and Arians run an Air Coryell style of offense predicated on deep passes and power running. So, would the team really look any different on offense?Well, yes and no. Which are both good answers. However, there’s also a down side to both as well. Here are some similarities and some differences Bucs fans might witness if our hopes and dreams are realized. Don’t worry, it starts a little down, but gets better at the end.SIMILARITIESDEEP TO SHORT READSHere, on third-and-five against the Pittsburgh Steelers during Week 6 of the 2015 NFL Season, the Cardinals are nearing field goal range and a new set of downs here would go a long way to putting points on the board.Arizona comes out in shotgun with five receivers split wide. Good formation for spreading the defense thin and opening space for receivers to roam free. Which is exactly what happens. From the far left side of the offensive formation (following motion), Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer has a wide open receiver come free and clear at the first down marker for an easy conversion and brand new collection of downs. But he doesn’t throw it there. Why? Well, because this offensive scheme is predicated on the deep ball, remember? So, instead, Palmer sees a receiver running down the seam with inside position on the defender and thinks he can fit it in before the deep safety makes it over. He’s wrong, and the Cardinals would punt. Arizona would go on to lose this contest 25-13 in what would become Arians’ best year as the team’s head coach. This conversion doesn’t guarantee victory of course, but it was a big missed opportunity in the front half of the season.THROW TO THE STICKSRemember the time Jameis Winston was sacked because the offensive line didn’t hold up long enough for long-developing routes to actually develop leaving Winston no receivers to throw to as the pocket collapsed around him?Yeah Womens Donovan Smith Jersey , so does Carson Palmer. This play, again a third down, shows the Cardinals running just three receivers downfield while leaving the rest in for protection. Which makes sense.Problem is, the protection doesn’t hold up, and the extra personnel staying in to give Palmer the time needed to wait for a receiver are ineffective at best.Arizona came in to this play needing seven yards. The shortest route on the play broke at twelve. The Cardinals lost seven on the play and punted to the 2016 Seattle Seahawks en route to a Week 7 tie.DIFFERENCESA RED ZONE....TOUCHDOWN?Obviously the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have scored touchdown’s in the red zone, but we’d be kidding ourselves if we didn’t admit the lack of scoring inside the opponent’s 20-yard line is a contributing factor to why coach Koetter isn’t around any more. And I’m not saying the Arizona Cardinals scored at a 100% rate in the red zone under Arians either. But, this play is encouraging if the Bucs land the flat cap wearing dynamo. This play has everything. Motion, creativity, use of individual skill sets and the left tackle even almost messes the whole thing up!It’s great, and can’t you just see Adam Humphries running this play for a Bucs touchdown in 2019? I sure can.Under Koetter and Monken this season, the Bucs got better in red zone scoring. After getting into the end zone just 49% of the time in 2017, they earned six points on 60% of their trips in 2018.The team regressed in the second half of the season however, considering the team scored touchdowns on 63% of their trips in the first eight games.TWO RUNNING BACKS AND A MOTIONI was personally very excited to see this. I can’t count how many times I’ve begged and pleaded to see Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, or Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers, or Doug Martin and Charles Sims, or any two running back set line up with the quarterback in the backfield.Never happened. If it did, it was such a rare gem my subconscious won’t allow me to recall it.Here, Arians has his Cardinals offense lined up in this exact formation. And making things even better, he puts David Johnson in motion to take advantage of a defense who lined up to play against two running backs and suddenly has to face three receivers with a wheel running back coming out of the backfield. It’s an easy read. If the linebacker drops deep to cover the player split left Womens William Gholston Jersey , then dump it off to the leaking running back. If he stays close (which he does here), then hit the out route with no defender underneath.Beautiful.The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the 2018 season averaging 415.5 yards per game (3rd in the NFL) but 12th in the league in scoring with 24.8 points per game.Tampa Bay represents the only team in the Top-5 among league leaders in yards per game to not make the post-season. The only post-season teams scoring fewer points per game than the Bucs are the Baltimore Ravens (24.3 points ppg) and Philadelphia Eagles (22.9 ppg). Similarities between Arians and Koetter should help to ensure the offense’s ability to move the ball remains intact.Arians’ west coast wrinkles sprinkled in to his Coryell style of offense should bring a new level of creativity and versatility to a very talented roster.Fixing the defense? Well, a lot will be told there by the coordinator hired in Tampa. We don’t know who that person is just yet, but you can be sure we’ll look into that aspect of this once we do.For now, we’ll all have to wait and see what Jason Licht and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do next and think about what might be.Buccaneers - Saints postgame reactions Immediate Game Reaction followed by overview and unit reactions. Ryan Fitzpatrick did everything he could to start a real controversy in Tampa at the quarterback position. In order to make whether or not Jameis returning in week four a tough decision as to who to start, Fitzpatrick would need to really lead a dynamite offense these first three weeks. One week in and he has certainly accomplished a great start. The offense was firing on all cylinders in the pass game despite a mediocre ground game accompanying it. Should Fitzpatrick follow up this performance with a couple more similar games the coaches may face quite the dilemma in week four. Quick Overview shows a historic type performance on offense. The Buccaneers came out and had a franchise record tying offensive performance. The 48-40 score was the most the Buccaneers have scored in a game since they were crowned Super Bowl champions. The Buccaneers entered the half with 31 points setting a new team record for points scored by the team in the first half. The last point of emphasis as a whole for the offense was Todd Monken continuing to call plays in what looks to be an incredible step in the right direction for this unit. For a bit more on Monken and how he helped lead this offense, check out our own Jon Marchant’s piece on just that. Offensively the team was a well oiled machine.Ryan Fitzpatrick made smooth sailing of things with his own personal record setting day through the air. Fitzpatrick finished with a 156.3 quarterback rating in which he completed 75% of his passes for 417 yards and four touchdowns. Fitzpatrick’s scrambling was a perfect compliment to his own air attack while also lending the team a late 3rd down conversion to enter the victory formation.Peyton Barber got the start while rookie 2nd round pick Ronald Jones was a healthy inactive for the week one match-up. Barber averaged 3.63 yards a carry in the game; aided by a 23 yard scamper. Without the run, Barber was running at an abysmal clip 2.55 yards a touch. The receiving core was as advertised and some in this ballgame with two electric performances from Mike Evans and Desean Jackson who both eclipsed 140 yards receiving. O.J. Howard hauled in two passes for 54 yards while second year receiver Chris Godwin also came down with a few passes for 41 yards and a touchdown of his own. The offensive line got the job done, keeping Fitzpatrick upright for the better part of the game and allowing zero sacks. The holes for the running game weren’t quite enough to spark a consistent attack on the ground but the resilience and consistency to which they played as a unit was encouraging. Marpet and Jensen both showed some gumption in the ball game when standing up for their quarterback who received a couple late hits. The defense has much work to do.The front four landed the first sack of 2018 for the team via new addition Vinny Curry. The sack was the lone time they made it home on Drew Brees despite a few other opportunities, none better than Jason Pierre-Paul’s near sack that wasn’t. With Brees consistently taking three step drops and dishing the ball out quickly there was little opportunity for the front four to work their way into the pocket. The linebackers did what they do when it comes to the duo of Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David. The two combined for 18 total tackles, splitting the total at 9 combined tackles a piece. Adarius Taylor starting in the absence of Kendell Beckwith and tallied a lone solo tackle but with the defense in sub-packages most of the day, there was little opportunity for Taylor to make an impact. Alexander also had a forced fumble recovered by the Buccaneers in this game. The corners were short handed going in and pending new information, may continue to be shorthanded as Vernon Hargreaves III made an early impact in the game forcing a fumble that was recovered by the Buccaneers but ultimately had to leave the game with a shoulder injury. Ryan Smith found himself in good position and was able to pick up a fumble forced by Kwon Alexander. Smith otherwise had a choppy day on the field including a blunder that appeared to involve himself and Chris Conte as Brees connected with a wide open receiver in the end zone.Carlton Davis got introduced to the NFL in a rough manner as Brees attacked him early and often. With Grimes out it was a building day for the rookie as he now has some regular season game film of himself to digest. The safety play and how one views it depends largely on which safety you’re talking about. Justin Evans made a few plays in the passing game and had a huge early fumble recovery for a touchdown on defense. Conte led the defensive backs in tackles with 7 but had an up and down game defending the pass as one could expect facing the likes of Drew Brees. Evans finished with 5 total tackles. Two things that have been issues in seasons before reared their ugly heads in week one. 1) This defense struggles to defend big receivers and 2) this team struggles to defend shifty backs, in particular backs that catch the ball well out of the backfield. Kamar and Thomas dominated this game against he Buccaneers defense, combining for 27 catches and 292 yards and 2 touchdowns. Special teams did their job. Shaun Wilson had one opportunity to take a kick out of the end-zone and he managed 29 yards on that very return. There was little wiggle room for punt/kick returns outside of that lone attempt via Wilson but the team didn’t make any mistakes and in turn, the offense was set up nicely on a regular basis throughout the ball game. Catanzaro missed a kick late but otherwise made an early 36 yard field goal while also nailing on all 6 extra point attempts. Anger had a single punt that went for 42 yards that got the job done despite not pinning the Saints too deep.

What the Patriots offense has to do to beat the Chiefs

The New England Patriots will face their toughest challenge of the year tonight when the Kansas City Chiefs visit Foxboro. The Chiefs currently own an unblemished record White Rex Burkhead Jerseys , thanks in large part to a big-play offense that seemingly scores at will and has hung an average of 35.0 points on its first five opponents this year. With the Patriots defense not always being up to the challenge this season, the team’s offense will play a special role today. After all, the game is expected to become a shootout that could very well be decided by whichever offense makes the most plays or has the football last. The last time New England found itself in this kind of game – Super Bowl 52 – the team was defeated. In order to ensure that today’s result, if the game indeed goes as is expected, is a different one than in February, the Patriots need to bring their A-game and make sure the following things are accomplished.Stick to the ground gameThe best way to limit a potent offense is to keep it on the sidelines, which is why playing a ball-control game is imperative for New England and its offense tonight. The preconditions for that appear to be good from the Patriots’ perspective: Kansas City’s defense – a unit that has played some opportunistic but not always consistent football through the first five weeks – has had its fair share of issues when it comes to defending the run.During their last five games, the Chiefs gave up an average of 118.8 yards on the ground. The numbers, of course, cannot fully be taken at face value: Kansas City typically played from ahead, which forced opponents to focus more on the pass. With the defense reacting Rex Burkhead Jerseys 2019 , this naturally opened up lanes for running backs to create yardage. That being said, teams were able to run on the Chiefs even when the games were still close. The issues start up front with Kansas City’s defensive line often failing to take proper angles especially against zone blocking schemes. Behind the front-line defenders, the linebacker corps is not quick enough to make up for the ground given up and also prone to react too slowly to movements or pre-snap motion. While the unit has had its moments, it has shown little consistency to string together plays.Trying to establish and stick to a presence on the ground should therefore be high up on the list of priorities for coordinator Josh McDaniels. This also is something that should play to New England’s strengths: the offensive line has improved when it comes to run blocking over the last two weeks no matter when it comes to using a man or zone approach, with first-round rookie Sony Michel showing tremendous patience and vision to find open space and get to the second level.Isolate the Chiefs’ linebackers in coverageNew England’s linebackers have had their fair share of trouble this season when it comes to defending crossing routes and underneath zones. In this regard, the Chiefs’ group is similar:Kansas City’ linebackers have not done a particularly good job when it comes to coverage – and tonight they will have to go against the best team in the NFL when it comes to finding and exploiting mismatches. Targeting the linebackers should be one of them today. The Patriots have plenty of weapons to stress linebackers and box safeties one-on-one, with two of them expected to play particularly big roles today: running back James White and wide receiver Julian Edelman. Both have made a living out of catching passes in the flat or the underneath areas of the field against players that lack their moving abilities – and Kansas City’s linebackers do just that.Edge defender Dee Ford is more of a downhill pass rusher than a coverage linebacker, while interior players Anthony Hitchens, Reggie Ragland and Terrance Smith have had some problems sticking with running backs, slot receivers and also tight ends (of which the Patriots have a pretty good one as well in Rob Gronkowski) due to their athletic limitations and up-and-down reaction time and decision making.A key for New England will therefore be to try to isolate them in coverage with a player fit to win the battle. To do that, pre-snap motion will play a big role. With Tom Brady a master at identifying coverages and personnel groupings used to run them White Adam Butler Jerseys , he should be able to single out defenders to target or make necessary adjustments at the line to create favorable matchups. Seeing New England regularly go empty and use James White on the perimeter or in the slot would therefore not be a surprise.Take care of the footballEarlier this week, we argued that New England needs to take better care of the football: while the Patriots offense gave away the ball on just 1.2% of its plays between 2013 and 2017, the unit is currently turning it over on 2.5% of its plays. Going against a defense that is ranked tenth in the NFL in turnovers, this percentage needs improvement today if the team wants to put itself in the best position to win.As noted above, the game is expected to turn into a shootout with neither defense particularly well equipped to properly handle the speed and concepts the opposing offenses like to run. One turnover could therefore very well make the difference between winning and losing tonight: every single possession is precious and cannot be given away – something the Jacksonville Jaguars experienced first-hand last week.Down 10-0 in the second quarter, the Jaguars were in a position to get on the board multiple times. However, self-inflicted errors made the difference: after recording an interception following a missed 4th down attempt, Jacksonville gave the football right back on the very next play to set up a field goal. One offensive play by the Jaguars later, they were down 20-0 thanks to a pick-six. Within a few minutes, the game was blown wide open.Against a team as explosive as the Chiefs, mistakes like these simply cannot happen. The Patriots therefore have to make sure they don’t waste opportunities like Jacksonville did and to keep the game a close one if the defense fails to rise to the challenge. The New England Patriots had a busy week. In between preparing for their upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans Adam Butler Jerseys 2019 , the team made numerous personnel moves impacting its active 53-man roster and its 10-man practice squad. The latest of those moves happened yesterday: as the Patriots announced, they signed wide receiver Damoun Patterson to their practice squad and released running back Josh Ferguson.Patterson originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. The Youngstown State product was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a solid 2018 preseason: he caught a team-high nine passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, with the majority of his production coming in week one. However, he still failed to make the team’s 53-man roster after a toe injury led the Steelers to release him with an injury designation. One week later, he was let go off the injured reserve list and entered the open market. In early October, Patterson visited the Patriots as a free agent but was not signed until yesterday. As noted above, he replaces Josh Ferguson on the practice squad: the running back was signed on Wednesday but after a mere two days is off the team again.Following the transactions, New England’s practice squad now looks as follows:
