Who should McDermott turn to for Week 2’s home opener vs. the Los Angeles Chargers? What’s up with Vontae Davis, who was supposed to start as the No. 2 cornerback but instead was a healthy scratch? If there is a theme to this week, it’s that several of the league’s top defenses collide with high-end offensive attacks.START: Drew Brees, QB Tedy Bruschi Jerseys Stitched , Saints: It’s fantasy blasphemy to consider sitting Brees, but he has been in a skid that has seen him average 175.5 yards in his last four games with a 6-4 TD-INT ratio. Brees has gone three straight games without throwing multiple touchdown passes but should return to his MVP-caliber self against a Steelers defense that is 21st in fantasy points per game allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Pittsburgh has allowed more than 900 passing yards in its last three games. Brees is too good to remain this bad, and with the Saints offense usually lethal at home, Brees has a great chance for redemption at the biggest moment of the fantasy season.SIT: Phillip Rivers, QB, Chargers: The Ravens pass defense has been in lockdown mode all season, allowing just three quarterbacks to eclipse 20 fantasy points. Rivers can’t be the fourth, as he will be without receiver Keenan Allen (hip pointer) in a high-stakes matchup against a Baltimore defense that is third in fewest net passing yards allowed and first in fewest yards per attempt. It’s hard to envision Rivers finishing Saturday night with more than 220 yards and a touchdown pass, numbers that won’t win many fantasy titles.START: Alshon Jeffrey, WR Youth Steve Grogan Jerseys , Eagles: He’s been targeted 17 times in the last two games and comes off his best outing of the season, an eight-catch, 160-yard performance in the win at the Rams. Nick Foles was able to get Jeffery involved downfield in a manner that Carson Wentz couldn’t. The Texans defense has been lit up by T.Y. Hilton (Colts) and Robby Anderson (Jets) in the last two games. Houston is 27th in receiving yards allowed and has given up 24 touchdown passes. If Foles gets Jeffery in sync from the outset, starting Jeffery as a WR2 will lend to totals more suited for a WR1.SIT: David Johnson, RB, Cardinals: Johnson scored his first rushing touchdown in more than a month but managed just 33 yards on 11 carries in the loss to the Falcons. He’ll have little value in non-PPR formats even though the Rams are 21st against the run and are one of three teams (Patriots, Chiefs) that allow at least 5 yards per carry. Even in a PPR league, Johnson’s production will be limited as Los Angeles allows an average of just 30.4 receiving yards per game to opposing running backs, fifth-fewest overall. If there are better options on the roster, there’s no shame in sitting Johnson down.START: Marlon Mack Steve Grogan Jerseys Stitched , RB, Colts: Perhaps the biggest surprise of Week 15, Mack tore through the vaunted Cowboys run defense for 139 yards with a pair of scores and gets a great follow-up against the Giants, who are 28th against the run. Mack has three touchdowns in his last two games, and even if he’s not much of a factor in the passing game, he should be good for his fourth game this season of at least 20 touches. If so, look for Mack to put up RB1-level numbers.SIT: Tom Brady, QB, Patriots: The Bills allow the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks and have held passers to less than 180 yards in eight of their last 10 games. Brady did throw for 324 yards against Buffalo in a Week 8 win but did not throw a touchdown. He has attempted at least 31 passes in all but one game this season, so the opportunities will be there for Brady. Still Youth John Hannah Jerseys , it’s tough to do much damage to a Bills team that leads the league in fewest net passing yards allowed.START: Evan Engram, TE, Giants: Odell Beckham Jr. is likely done for the season, so Engram stands a great chance to at least approach the season-best 12 targets he had last week against the Titans. Watson hasn’t eclipsed the 300-yard mark since Week 5, but he’s completed better than 70 percent of his attempts in four straight games and his running skills bring an added element to a formula that should result in a huge afternoon.SIT: D.J. Moore, WR, Panthers: Taylor Heinicke makes his first career start, dropping the value of Moore coming off a Week 15 loss to the Saints that saw him manage only four touches. The Top 5 at last.Training camp is all set to begin, and we’re under a month out from the first Patriots preseason game of the season. It’s always awesome that the last few moments on the Top 20 Most Memorable Patriots Moments of the previous season fall right around the time that training camp and the preseason get under way, as it gives us the best of both worlds; we can look back at the absolute best of the year before while stoking our optimism and expectations for the season to come.As with any Top 5, only the best can make the cut. I always factor in not only the quality of the play/moment, but also the circumstances surrounding it and the impact it had on the narrative as a whole. This year’s Top 5 Moments are all awesome, and I can’t wait until we get to Number 1. But first, the list so far:20. Danny Etling gets half of the Giants fired with an 86 yard touchdown run.19. The Patriots demolish the Jets at home to secure a playoff bye.18. Julian Edelman bounces off a Bill and into the end zone on a 4th down conversion.17. Some punt team acrobatics keep the Steelers from getting a touchback.16. Gronk magic returns with a 34 yard touchdown seam route catch against the New York Jets.15. James Develin finds the end zone twice against the Minnesota Vikings.14. The New England Patriots trade for Josh Gordon.13. A Julian Edelman screen pass and an epic Tom Brady fakeout secures a primetime win on Sunday Night Football over the Green Bay Packers.12. The Patriots right the ship with a Week 4 blowout of the Miami Dolphins.11. Special teams lead the way for a decisive road victory over the Chicago Bears.10. Tom Brady avoids the sack on 3rd and goal and dives headfirst into the end zone to take the lead against the Kansas City Chiefs.9. Tom Brady becomes the all time passing yards leader in a win over the New York Jets.8. Tom Brady eclipses 1,000 career rushing yards with a five yard scamper against the Minnesota Vikings.7. The Miami Miracle.6. A Devin McCourty pick-six seals a Monday Night victory over the Buffalo Bills.Number 5 should probably be an entire game, but we already have something like that coming up very soon, and I already touched on this game as we cracked the Top 10, so we’re going to stick with a specific drive here so this article isn’t 10,000 words long.5. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski team up to lead the Patriots on a late game-winning drive against the Kansas City Chiefs.When you look back on the first game of 2018 between the Patriots and Chiefs, it’s easy to forget that the score was 24-9 New England leading into the half. When the final score of a contest is 43-40, you figure the score at halftime is something like 28-28, but KC had all kinds of problems finding the end zone in the first two quarters of this one (something of a theme with that team, it would appear).However, the third quarter saw the Chiefs score on all three their possessions, while the Patriots were only able to manage two field goals. KC also scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter too in what became an absolute explosion of offense; when the Patriots were able to take a 40-33 lead with just over three minutes to go, the speed at which both teams had been scoring left nobody thinking the score would stay the way it was for long.What nobody saw coming, though, was a one play, 75 yard drive in which Patrick Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill in stride and he absolutely rocketed down the sideline to even the score just like that. It was 40-33 with 3:15 to play Rex Burkhead Jersey , and 40-40 with 3:03 left to play. It was just that kind of game.The good news about such a quick score was that it gave Tommy B more time to work his way down the field. The Chiefs defense was gassed, and with the score tied the Patriots only needed to get into FG range to take home a win that would decide who had the inside track on the 1 Seed in the AFC. Furthermore, the Chiefs had already used two of their three 2nd hald timeouts already, so the Patriots were in prime position - as long as they could move the ball.After the touchback, Brady hit Julian Edelman for seven yards, then picked up the first on two Sony Michel runs. A short pass to James White not only gave New England 16 more yards, but also put Tom Brady at 3rd all-time with his 84th career 300 yard game. The Patriots had 1st and 10 at the KC 48 with 51 seconds to play.Up to this point in the drive, the Patriots had been going shallow, taking the easy yards, and milking the clock. They only needed about 15 more yards or so to be well within Ghost’s range, and seeing as how there was still plenty of time left, it made all the sense in the world to keep looking for the short, high probability throws. Because of that, on the next play the Chiefs played press at the line, looking to bump the receivers and take away anything underneath.With James White in the backfield and Chris Hogan wide to the right, Julian Edelman and Gronk were in the right slot with Josh Gordon alone on the left side. Who was covering who was completely irrelevant, as Brady saw the mismatch right away: Josh Shaw was alone on Gronk, with only one safety in the backfield charged with covering to much field. As Edelman broke on a skinny post to the inside and Gordon ran the Go, the safety had no choice but to stick to the middle as Gronkowski put a move on Shaw and got a step. Hogan’s quick in route ensured that Gronk was alone on the sideline, and Tommy B showed the world what a lousy deep ball he has by putting it right on Gronk’s hands for a 39 yard gain. Shaw tackled Gronk inside the 10 yard line, forcing the Chiefs to use their final timeout with 17 seconds to play.The next play was just a smush run to the center of the field for Brady, and Gostkowski kicked the 28 yard chip shot right as time expired to give the Patriots a 43-40 win in an absolutely wild primetime matchup.At the time Womens Donald Trump Jersey , everyone simply assumed that this game meant that when these two teams met again in the playoffs, it would be in Foxboro as opposed to at Arrowhead. it obviously didn’t work out that way (and thank Tebow, I say), but this was about as big a win as it gets in the regular season, and it was a great confidence boost to any Patriots fan who might have been a little pessimistic about this team.This drive was also as classic a Tom Brady drive as it gets. Late in the fourth quarter, game is on the line, the Patriots need a drive, and Tommy B delivers. In an early part of the season marred by consecutive losses and question marks about whether or not this team still had that killer instinct, the Patriots answered the bell here.It was also just vintage Brady to Gronk, a connection that we may very well never see again. Gronkowski only had three catches on the day, but all of them were huge, and when Brady needed to make a play to give his team the chance to win, there was only one place he was going (foreshadowing!). Gronkowski’s career highlight reel is lousy with plays like this, but every big play he made in 2018 - his last season - is just a little more meaningful. Check out the game highlights here. There was a rules controversy. It was going to doom football. Turn it into flag football basically. The leading with the helmet rule was going to ruin everything.Alas, it hasn’t. No, that distinction goes to the new edition of the roughing the passer penalty. You know the one, it’s the one where someone hits a quarterback in the pocket....and that’s illegal now.It’s basically the NFL’s version of home base in tag.In episode 18-5 of this here column - Look! A link! - I addressed this very rule:When a rule is being bashed by the very player it was created for - Aaron Rodgers - you know it’s bad. Three weeks into the 2017 season, there were 16 roughing the passer penalties. There are more than double that after three weeks this season. Roughly half of those have been levied on Clay Matthews it would seem (not really). This penalty is bad. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThis line is drawn squarely behind two players. If any of them are on the board when pick five comes around, and I’m Jason Licht (which I’m not), then I’m taking one of them.The names in front of this line are edge rusher Nick Bosa (Ohio State) and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (Alabama).We’ve all been discussing these guys thoroughly throughout the off-season, so let’s save the ink for the trade lines, which are a little more detailed.THE ‘WHITE-LINE’Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsMoving back is always tricky. Of course you have your guy you really want to land in the trade back. Like Licht mentioned, this line is drawn where you feel comfortable moving back while maintaining your ability to grab one of the players you evaluate as being on the right side of the talent gap.This group starts with LSU linebacker Devin White. So, I’m drawing my first line at the deepest part of the draft I feel like I still have a shot at my future inside linebacker. I’ll call it: The ‘White-Line’.The New York Giants figure to go quarterback with the sixth pick. Jacksonville might be the shock of the entire draft if they went with one of our players listed above. So we’re probably safe with the first two picks.At seven Kendell Beckwith Jersey , the Lions could certainly go with an EDGE rusher to replace Ezekiel Ansah. However, neither White or Bush will be the target in Detroit.Buffalo would be wise to give quarterback, Josh Allen some help on offense, but they could also look for a running mate to go with Tre’Davious White. Nine is a little high for any of the corners in this year’s class, but T.J. Hockenson getting past Jacksonville would be an interesting target here. Still, we feel pretty good the Bills are a 50% or less chance of drafting White.Denver holds the tenth pick, and are a definite threat to take Devin White. In fact, I don’t see White getting past the Broncos which means our ‘White-Line’ is pick nine with the Buffalo Bills.I’m not necessarily saying I think the Bills would be interested in a trade-up. But they represent the furthest I’d be willing to move back with confidence I could still have a reasonable shot at nabbing Devin White.THE ‘PRICE-LINE’Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsThere are other names I would be happy netting in a trade as well, but getting past the ‘White-Line’ would take some swaying and make a trade beyond that point more expensive for the team trying to move up. Because of this fact, I’m titling this line: ‘The Price-Line’. To get a trade here, the other team is going to have to pay a hefty price to get there.The prospect group I’m targeting here includes (again, for me) Ed Oliver (Houston, DL), Devin Bush (Michigan, LB), Brian Burns (Florida State, EDGE) and Montez Sweat (Mississippi State). More or less in that order.After this group, there’s a drop in talent (like Licht mentioned), and given the state of the team I’m just not comfortable going further without confidence we can get one of them. But how far is too far?Worst case scenario, the Giants, Lions, Bills and Broncos all went defense. Rashan Gary (Michigan Ryan Jensen Jersey , EDGE) is likely to be one of those names meaning two of our names should still be available. I’m thinking Bush and Burns.Each of the next two picks (Bengals at eleven and the Packers at twelve) could use Bush, leaving just Burns remaining from my target list.Cincinnati gets first crack at drafting one of our targets, so if they do it’s likely to be Bush, so the question then is: Would Green Bay draft Burns? And the short answer is, yes.So, this means we can’t let the Packers pick unless they are our trade back partner and they aren’t drafting one of our target players.Which means my line is being drawn at eleven with the Cincinnati Bengals with a special consideration for the Packers if they’re trading up for T.J. Hockenson (not happening). Trading back to eleven in this scenario is going to cost the Bengals two day-two picks. A 2019 and 2020 second would be reasonable, but I’m looking for both of Cincinnati’s day-two picks and would be willing to add in a day-three pick swap or two to make it happen.Again, the price to move past Denver would be high. Moving up to get a quarterback is always high. But if we’re basically forfeiting our ability to get our top interior linebacker, one of our top-two interior defensive linemen, and settling for our third-best edge rusher, then it’s going have to be worth it.So, would the Bengals be willing to spend what’s needed to make this happen? Maybe. Zac Taylor is a new coach, and teams with new coaches often look for a keystone piece to start off their reign. We are far enough into this process now that once the games begin this fall it will be fair to begin passing judgment.Reese’s pieces are gone.Few remnants of the Reese era remain.Odell Beckham Jr., Olivier Vernon, Damon Harrison, Landon Collins, Eli Apple, Ereck Flowers, Justin Pugh, Weston Richburg, Bobby Hart and others brought in by Reese are just memories. Zak DeOssie, the Giants’ Jurassic snapper, is still around. Janoris Jenkins has somehow survived the roster upheaval. Norman said Gettleman is “winning for” the Redskins with his decisions.They both might end up being right, but their comments are also predictable. Neither is a Gettleman fan as both are in Washington because Gettleman decided not to pay them the big-money deals they sought — and got from the Redskins.
