Jets podcast: Things to watch vs. Giants Tonight the Jets

play their third preseason game of 2018. It is their annual preseason contest against the other New York team White Andre Roberts Jerseys , the Giants. On today’s podcast we take a look at some of the key things to watch. As has been the case during the rest of the preseason, all eyes are on Sam Darnold. The rookie might have a chance to clinch the starting quarterback job in Week 1 tonight if he does not have an ugly outing. Beyond that, we will get to see Darnold with a fuller collection of talent as the Jets are about to get back a number of starters. Terrelle Pryor is another player worth watching as he could make his preseason debut tonight. There might be no bigger wild card on the roster. On the other side of the ball Andre Roberts Jerseys 2019 , the defense will look to bounce back after an uneven performance. Darron Lee in particular could use a strong game.On special teams, the kicking competition is unsettled..We will discuss all of these things and more on the show today. The Jets have their first interview of this year’s head coaching search in the books. The team announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have completed an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. It’s also the first completed interview for Bieniemy, who is also set to talk to the Buccaneers on Wednesday before moving on to interviews with the Dolphins and Bengals.Hiring a coach with an offensive background would be a departure for the Jets as they have favored the defensive side of the ball over the last two decades. Bill Parcells replaced Rich Kotite in 1997 and was followed by Al Groh White Neal Sterling Jerseys , Herman Edwards, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan and Todd Bowles.Given the presence of quarterback Sam Darnold Neal Sterling Jerseys 2019 , it’s no surprise that the team is looking in that direction. Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken, former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury also fit that bill, although Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard is also on the candidate list.

DETROIT — Looks like the Minnesota Vikings have a feel for desperation. And desperation pass plays.Kirk Cousins took a shotgun snap Irv Smith Jersey nfl draft , rolled slightly to his right, stepped up and heaved a pass from near midfield into the end zone.More Vikings coveragePreview: Cook, Vikings look to keep rolling vs. PackersTop Tweets: Vikings prepare for Packers with TMNT hype videoBarr, seasoned Vikings defense off to strong startNew offense, same Rodgers: Vikings prep for LaFleur’s PackersVikings re-sign center Jones, waive rookie TE DillonKyle Rudolph leaped to make a go-ahead touchdown catch.Cousins’ 44-yard Hail Mary to Rudolph as time expired in the first half put the Minnesota Vikings ahead and they beat the Detroit Lions 27-9 Sunday, moving a step closer to playing in the postseason.“It was a big way to gain some momentum going into the half after a slow start,” Cousins said. “They were calling it a Hail Rudy after it happened.”Minnesota famously beat New Orleans in the playoffs last January on Diggs’ game-ending, 61-yard touchdown reception to advance to the NFC championship game. The Vikings could have clinched a spot in the playoffs with a win and losses by Washington and Philadelphia this weekend. The Redskins lost to Tennessee on Saturday, and shortly after Minnesota walked into its locker room at Ford Field, the Eagles beat Houston on a game-ending field goal.Minnesota (8-6-1) can still earn a spot in the postseason by closing the regular season with a win against NFC North champion Chicago at home, or by having wild-card hopefuls lose in Week 17.“We don’t want to leave it up to anyone else,” Rudolph said. The Vikings overcame an awful start offensively, scoring two touchdowns on Cousins’ passes over the last 1:32 of the second quarter, and relied on their defense all afternoon against Detroit.Minnesota had almost as many punts (4) as yards (5) before Cousins led an eight-play, 69-yard drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs late in the first half. On the Vikings’ next possession after calling timeout with 2 seconds left in the second quarter against a three-man rush, Cousins capped a 70-yard drive with his Hail Mary to Rudolph, who didn’t have much traffic in front of him,.“I didn’t have to move one step off of my spot. I was able to jump,” said the 6-foot-6 Rudolph, who was a highly touted high school basketball player in Cincinnati. “I joked earlier I had a lot of rebounds in high school basketball and at that point, it turns into another rebound, so maybe see if I can get that added to my career total.”In the same end zone three years ago Everson Griffen Jersey , Aaron Rodgers connected with Richard Rodgers on a winning desperation pass to lift the Packers to a win over Detroit to help them make a push to get into the postseason.Cousins finished 21 of 28 for 253 yards with three touchdowns, matching his career high with 29 set in 2015 with the Redskins. Rudolph had a career-high 122 yards receiving, matched a career high with two touchdown receptions, and had a season-high nine receptions. The Lions (5-10) wasted opportunities to have a comfortable cushion in the first half because their offense stalled repeatedly. They had to settle for three field goals and a 9-0 lead, and then they had to deal with a 14-9 deficit after the Hail Mary.“When those things happen, certainly they have a little bit of a toll on you,” coach Matt Patricia acknowledged.Detroit has dropped four of five and seven of nine since reaching .500 in late October, falling apart in Patricia’s first season as a head coach after the franchise fired coach Jim Caldwell with a 36-28 record over four seasons. The playing-for-pride Lions got off to a strong start defensively against the playoff-hopeful Vikings, holding them without a first down until there were three-plus minutes left in the first half. With the ball, though, Detroit could not to take advantage of favorable field position against a stingy defense. The Lions were relegated to Matt Prater kicking one field goal in the first quarter and two in the second. The Vikings opened the second half with a field goal for a 17-9 lead that looked like it would be enough against a team that failed to score a touchdown against them in two games this season. Minnesota sent a lot of fans out of Ford Field early in the second half when Cousins threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Rudolph to go ahead by 15 points.STAFFORD SITSMatthew Stafford was 18 of 32 for 116 yards and was replaced with 4:10 left by Matt Cassel, who was welcomed by cheers before the Lions were called for a false start prior to his first snap.“It’s frustrating that that’s the way the game went,” said Stafford, who is playing through a back injury. “Coach makes those decisions. Always want to be out there, understand where he’s coming from with it. He knows what I’m dealing with and going through. As far as fans’ reaction, it doesn’t make any difference.”INJURY REPORTVikings: CB Marcus Sherels left with a foot injury in the first quarter and didn’t return. CB Xavier Rhodes (groin) limped off the field in the fourth quarter. FB C.J. Ham (elbow) had an elbow injury.Lions: TE Luke Willson (concussion), DT A’Shawn Robinson (knee), DeShawn Shead (knee) were hurt during the game.UP NEXTVikings: Host the Bears on Sunday.“It’s going to be like a playoff game,” Rudolph said.Lions: Close the season at Green Bay on Sunday. Every Thursday during the regular season (when the Minnesota Vikings play a Sunday game) the three coordinators speak to the media. Here’s a few highlights from this week’s press conferences:Defensive coordinator George EdwardsQ: What about playing in U.S. Bank Stadium makes this defense better?A: There’s no doubt that our fans and the support and the noise, and all the things that they do to help us out on third down [help us]. But also our players, the concentration and focus that they put forth, understanding the situation, understanding the matches and the coverages Anthony Barr Jersey , understanding the protections that we’re going to get in in those situations. I think the culmination of all of it together has really helped out.Q: How much of a weapon is Mitch Trubisky’s mobility?A: It says a lot, he really got out on us a couple times on third down earlier in the game in Chicago. Also, first and second down. He can find a seam, he’s gotten a lot more comfortable with what they do schematically and with how they’re using their different personnel, so we’ve got to be very disciplined in our rush lanes and hopefully get out and execute the game plan.Q: What types of challenges does it present when a running back can go vertical like Tarik Cohen can?A: It’s a tough match, especially in certain coverages that you’re in. You look around the league, it seems like every week we’re facing a back with that type of skill set. You look at us last week with 25 [Lions running back Theo Riddick], it’s pretty much that everybody has a guy that can really go take the top off as a tough match for a linebacker. It’s one thing that we’ve been working on throughout the course of the week and that we’ve been working on throughout the course of the year, and we’ve just got to be smart and make sure that we can maintain our leverage and not give up the big play.Q: How have you seen teams increase their focus on Linval Joseph over his time here?A: Quite a bit. I think Linval is a tremendous player for us inside, and what he brings to the game, I think people are aware that when you single block him it’s going to be a tough day. They realize a lot of the times that they have to double him. For us, that allows our linebackers who play at the second level to be a little bit freer as they come across, but he’s going to give you a hard day’s work every day that he’s out there. He pays attention to the detail. He’s more than your typical nose with the push that he gets in the pocket and being able to understand block recognition, his effort to the football on screens. He brings a lot to us defensively.Interim offensive coordinator Kevin StefanskiQ: How do you balance going back and watching the tape from the game at Chicago but not being the same play caller?A: It’s useful. It’s the same defense versus the same offense. The players are the same and certainly having been part of the staff I was a part of the game plan that put it together. So I think it’s useful to go back and look at it. The nice part is we can see who we were, we can see what they were doing in that particular game. It’s part of any process looking back at the first time you played them.Q: How do you balance still wanting to run the ball more with their run defense?A: They have a very good run defense and a very good pass defense. So I think you have to go into it and put a plan together that you feel is going to have the most success, whether that is running the ball or throwing the ball, but certainly have our work cut out for us.Q: What do you see with Dalvin Cook and what makes him so elusive?A: He is a special talent. God gifted him with some unique physical tools. I think you’d start probably with his feet are pretty impressive. I remember seeing him in his first practice out there and just seeing how his feet moved. There’s only a few guys who look like that. He’s a physically gifted kid. I give him a ton of credit coming off the injury, just worked his tail off in the training room and just worked so hard with coach [Kennedy] Polamalu in the run game, in the pass game, in protection. The kid is working really hard. You are seeing the benefits of that on game day.Q: What is the biggest challenge Khalil Mack offers when you try to game plan around him?A: He is a great player. He is a great combination of size, athleticism, power, effort. Just turn the tape on. He is an impressive player. He certainly is someone that we have to account for in a bunch of different ways. That is why we are out here working and implementing that plan.Special teams coordinator Mike PrieferQ: Why have the onside kick numbers plummeted so much and would you like to see them go back up?A: I’d like to see them go up if we’re kicking them and I’d like to see them stay low if we’re on the hands team Mike Hughes Jersey , to be quite honest. It is an exciting play. I think it’s down from 20 percent to 8 percent or whatever it is. I think part of that is because there is no running start. We’ll continue to evolve and continue to work on the different types of kicks that are going to be successful, some teams already have, we’ve already tried. Whether it’s in practice getting them ready for games. I think you need to have the right type of kick because there is no running start, they already have eight in the box, they’re going to bring up ten in that set up zone, like most teams did anyway on hands team. I think without the running start it makes it much more difficult. Q: Do you ever think about different gimmicks to make that play more exciting?A: I think that’s part of being busy, part of my job is to be creative whether it’s a punt fake, field-goal fake, a creative way to take advantage of what a team is doing with their hands team, or whatever the case maybe. We try not to go into the game and have the same exact onside kick, the same exact same punt fake, the exact same field-goal fake, we try to tweak it and make it hopefully be successful against the opponent that we’re facing. I think that’s what most good teams do and that’s what we try to do every week. That’s part of it. I don’t know if gimmicky is the right word, but you’re trying to put your team in the best position possible to be successful.Q: What can the league do to change more end game scenarios if the onside kick is too dangerous? A: I don’t think the onside kick is too dangerous. I think with the emphasis on staying away from the helmet-to-helmet type of hits, with the no running starts, and those type of things. I think our job as coaches is to create situations where we can be successful with the rules that are in place because I think the new kickoff, kickoff return rules have been very beneficial for our game. I think the numbers, I haven’t seen them, but I’ve heard the concussion numbers are way down, so we’re going in the right direction which is a good thing for our players. It’s a good thing for our game. I think the onside kick success rate will go up a little bit as we get more creative with the types of kicks that we use. That’s just my opinion.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the team has released Kapri Bibbs.Bibbs arrived in Green Bay off waivers late in the 2018 season following a knee injury to starting running back Aaron Jones. Bibbs saw limited action during his lone year with the team, appearing in two games and recording one carry and three receptions for a combined 15 yards from scrimmage. Bibbs previously spent time with Washington and the Denver Broncos.Bibbs’ release comes shortly after the Packers concluded their three-day mandatory minicamp, a period which concluded with a paintball, team-building exercise earlier this week. The move leaves the Green Bay with four tailbacks -- Jones, Jamaal Williams, Tra Carson, and Dexter Williams -- as well as fullback Dan Vitale. With Bibbs out of the picture, the Packers’ roster now stands at 89 players. The last time the Saints and Vikings hooked up, folks in Minnesota were toasting Stefon Diggs with steins of Surly, and people in Louisiana were crying in their gumbo. They get together again in prime time, a nice treat to finish off a Sunday with several intriguing matchups.New Orleans sure hopes there’s no second Minneapolis Miracle.“This is not a revenge game,” Drew Brees insists, referring to the playoff loss in January. “It’s a different season. These are new teams Ka'dar Hollman Green Bay Packers Jersey , even though there’s a lot of similar personnel. It’s a new season, new team, new mindset. So listen, it’s a very good opponent that we are playing on ‘Sunday Night Football’ at their place. It is a tough environment (and) a tough place to play. We understand we’re going to need our best game, our best execution to win.”The Saints (5-1) have been doing a lot of winning since they were upset by Tampa Bay in their opener. Last week they won against a playoff-caliber team at Baltimore. Now they get the Vikings (4-2-1), who have been spotty but lead the NFC North and are 14-3 at home vs. New Orleans. The Vikings might feel equipped enough to get into a shootout with Brees, but when you listen to their coach, Mike Zimmer, who has a defensive background, he knows his side will be tested. It’s uncertain if the Vikings will have end Everson Griffen available as he returns from dealing with mental issues that sidelined him for almost six weeks.“I think as the game goes on, Brees gets a much better feel of what the defense is trying to do throughout the course of the ballgame with him,” Zimmer says.“A guy like him who has seen everything — he sees everything anyway — but he’s seen so many different looks that he can kind of decipher things quickly on the move. I think that’s part of it, and he’s got good players, too. Michael Thomas is good, (Alvin) Kamara is good Justin McCray Jersey , (Mike) Ingram is good. They have a lot of good players.”The weekend began Thursday night with Houston’s 42-23 home victory over the Miami Dolphins. Deshaun Watson matched his career high with five touchdown passes to lead the Texans to their fifth straight victory after opening 0-3. Miami has lost two straight to drop to 4-4.Off are Dallas (3-4), Tennessee (3-4), Atlanta (3-4) and the Los Angeles Chargers (5-2).Green Bay (3-2-1) at Los Angeles Rams (7-0)Talk about shootouts, this has the makings of one.Green Bay comes off a bye, which means Aaron Rodgers is healthier and could have more targets to connect with. Still, the Packers rank fourth in passing and A-Rod has 332.8 yards passing per game and 12 touchdowns, one pick. But the Packers opened as the biggest underdog of his career. That’s because the NFL’s only unbeaten team has been unstoppable with the ball and pretty stingy without it.Oh yeah, the Packers don’t cover particularly well in the secondary.Running back Todd Gurley leads the NFL with 88 points, 686 yards rushing, 144 carries and 956 yards from scrimmage. DE Aaron Donald co-leads with eight sacks, comes off four sacks, six tackles for loss against San Francisco.Denver (3-4) at Kansas City (6-1)The Chiefs have won six in a row in this series and, like the Rams, have a dynamic, versatile offense. But they also rank last in yardage allowed on defense Ka'dar Hollman Jersey 2019 , so Denver might not be totally overmatched.Chiefs coach Andy Reid won his 200th game last week vs. Cincinnati. Reid would tie Dan Reeves for eighth in NFL history with another victory. To get it, he will rely on second-year QB Patrick Mahomes, who leads the NFL in TD passes (22) and 25-yard-plus completions (26). He has a franchise-record six consecutive 300-yard passing games.Baltimore (4-3) at Carolina (4-2)Carolina exhibited its resilience and staying power by rallying from 17 points down in the fourth quarter at Philadelphia last week. It was the largest comeback in franchise history, and now the Panthers are home, where they’ve won eight straight. The challenge is huge against Baltimore, which fell at home by one point to New Orleans when Justin Tucker — only the league’s career kicking leader — missed an extra point for the first time. That final-seconds miscue shouldn’t camouflage that the Ravens lead the league in defense. Baltimore has allowed 101 points, lowest total through seven games since coach John Harbaugh took over in 2008. The Ravens have allowed the fewest yards (280.6 per game) and fewest points (14.4).Seattle (3-3) at Detroit (3-3)Two teams that started ugly and have begun to look a lot more attractive.Seattle has gone physical with the run game and on defense and, despite being in retooling mode, seems ready to challenge for a wild-card playoff berth. Pete Carroll’s bunch protects the ball, too, with only six giveaways. The Seahawks are playing for the first time since the death of owner Paul Allen.Detroit seems to have discovered a running game: Rookie Kerryon Johnson ran for a career-high 158 yards at Miami last week. But Seattle’s D is stingy on the ground.Philadelphia (3-4) vs. Jacksonville (3-4) at LondonTwo teams beginning to look ugly, particularly the Jaguars, who had locker-room discord after last week’s loss to Houston that included QB Blake Bortles getting benched. Coach Doug Marrone is sticking with Bortles for now and there was a players-only meeting Monday in hopes of clearing the air. This is the sixth straight year Jacksonville is playing a home game in London.Following their collapse against Carolina, the Eagles probably welcomed getting far out of town. It’s their first trip to London for a game. The Eagles lead the NFL in time of possession, averaging more than 33 minutes. But with Jacksonville’s secondary undermanned Preston Smith Jersey , Carson Wentz could look to the air. He has thrown 173 consecutive passes without an interception.New England (5-2) at Buffalo (2-5), Monday nightESPN must have liked the idea of the Bills, coming off their first playoff berth since before ESPN was created — well, not quite — against Tom Brady and the Patriots.Instead, this could be a classic rout. Consider these numbers:—The Patriots are 31-4 in the past 35 meetings.—Brady holds the NFL career wins record by a quarterback against one opponent with a 28-3 record.—New England is 7-0 in night games against the Bills.—The Patriots have scored 21 or more points in the first half in each of the past four games this season to match a franchise-best streak, and the Bills have allowed 24 or more points in the first half three times.Cleveland (2-4-1) at Pittsburgh (3-2-1)Another lopsided rivalry, though this game has some cachet because the Browns tend to play the Steelers tough before losing. They tied to open the season. The Steelers come off a bye. They have won the past 14 meetings at Heinz Field; Cleveland’s last victory in Pittsburgh came in October 2003. Plus, the Browns have lost 24 straight road games, two shy of the NFL record owned by the Lions (2007-10). And the Browns are 6-32-1 overall against Pittsburgh since 1999, when Cleveland re-entered the NFL.The Browns lead the NFL with 20 takeaways, but they have scored only 31 points off those turnovers.Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger is 22-2-1 all-time against the Browns and unbeaten at home. He’s an Ohio native.Washington (4-2) at New York Giants (1-6)The New York tabloids already are projecting which college quarterback the Giants will draft after they finish near the bottom of the standings for a second successive season. Maybe if they had anyone who could pass protect, the conversation wouldn’t be so tilted against Eli Manning, who barely has time to look downfield as he sets up to throw. In comes surprise NFC East leader Washington, which ranks fifth in defense and has one of the top candidates for Comeback Player of the Year in Adrian Peterson. The veteran has 95-plus yards rushing in four of six games.Tampa Bay (3-3) at Cincinnati (4-3)It’s natural to wonder about the Bengals‘ psyche after Cincinnati again blew a lead at home to Pittsburgh, then got hammered in Kansas City. The Bengals took the second-most-lopsided loss in coach Marvin Lewis’ 16 seasons with that 45-10 debacle at the Chiefs. They had only one drive longer than 50 yards and a season-low 239 yards gained.Tampa stopped a three-game skid as dramatically as possible. Chandler Catanzaro made a 59-yard FG — the longest in OT since 1974 — for a 26-23 win over the Browns. The Buccaneers lead the NFL in total yards per game (449.5) and yards passing per game (364).New York Jets (3-4) at Chicago (3-3)A few weeks ago Color Rush Ka'dar Hollman Jersey , the Bears sure were representing the city of big shoulders well, reviving talk of the Monsters of the Midway on defense, looking like a burgeoning power on offense. Then came a pair of losses and the Bears plummeted from the top of the NFC North to the bottom.Chicago led the league with 18 sacks through the first four games. The Bears have one since. Star Khalil Mack has no sacks in the past two games while being limited by an ankle injury, after getting five in the first four outings.Jets first-rounder Sam Darnold is learning how difficult a rookie QB’s life can be. He’s coming off his worst game as a pro with three interceptions. The No. 3 overall draft pick leads the league with 10 interceptions to go with one of the NFL’s worst completion rates (56.1 percent) and passer ratings (74.3).Indianapolis (2-5) at Oakland (1-5)The teardown of the roster continues in Oakland, where Jon Gruden dealt his top receiver, Amari Cooper, to Dallas.Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck seeks his fifth straight game with at least three TD passes. Luck has 15 TDs in his past four games. Oakland is last in the league with seven sacks.Kicker Adam Vinatieri needs five points to break Morten Andersen’s NFL career scoring record (2,544 points) but is plagued by an injured groin.San Francisco (1-6) at Arizona (1-6)The Cardinals have won eight of the past nine in this series, including three weeks ago.San Francisco is minus-15 in turnover margin, worst in the NFL.Arizona fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy this week, replacing him with QBs coach Byron Leftwich. Star WR Larry Fitzgerald needs 135 yards to pass Terrell Owens into second place in NFL career yards receiving.

While it’s not official yet, a 20-person class could be on tap next year with a large emphasis on the backlog of worthy senior candidates. At their annual meeting Friday, the Hall’s Board of Trustees approved a motion that would add 12 spots to the normally eight-man class. Typically, five modern era candidates join two senior candidates and one contributor for induction. The new proposal boosts the senior candidates to a ten-man class and the contributors to three while adding two coaches to the mix, as well. Five modern-era candidates plus ten senior candidates, three contributors, and two coaches would add up for one massive class.Keeping the modern era candidates at five Chris Ivory Jersey , this change benefits the senior candidates the most. Senior candidates need to have been retired for more than 25 years. Cookie Gilchrist is the most obvious former Buffalo Bills player who could benefit from the change. He was the first player to rush for 1000 yards in one AFL season (on a 14-game schedule) in 1962 and he also earned AFL MVP honors and set the all-time record for the league with 13 touchdowns. In 1963, he set the single-game pro football record with 243 rushing yards and five touchdowns against the New York Jets. He led the AFL in scoring for his three years with the Bills. He was also a great blocker and fierce civil rights advocate. He was an all-star for ten straights years (six in the CFL and four in the AFL) and was named as the fullback on the All-AFL team. CFL stats count in the Pro Football Hall of Fame but aren’t compared apples to apples with AFL and NFL stats.(For the record, Steve Tasker played through 1997 and is still a modern-era candidate as are the vast majority of the Super Bowl Bills.)In the coaching ranks, former Bills coach Chuck Knox and former Bills player Marty Schottenheimer would both seem to have some claim toward the two spots available. Schottenheimer has the most coaching wins of among inactive coaches not already in the Hall of Fame. Knox is third on that list. Working against them is neither won a conference title, much less a Super Bowl, and both have putrid playoff records.Next February and summer could be a massive undertaking in Canton, Ohio. Johnson is a tone-setter in the locker room who was a team captain for the Hurricanes. Extremely passionate, Johnson will endear himself to coaches and fans with his exceptional personality.Johnson’s mindset is first-round caliber, but physically he doesn’t match up to NFL prototypes. The safety stands 5’10” and 191 lbs, with short arms and small hands. He ran a 4.69 forty yard dash and had a 33” vertical leap at the Combine—not great results for a defensive back. He did lead the Hurricanes with 96 tackles this season, a testament to good tackling technique and instincts. The hope here is that his football intelligence and intensity will upgrade his ceiling despite any physical limitations. For now, Johnson’s destination is on special teams. His open-field tackling technique should make him an effective punt gunner. In the sixth round http://www.thebillslockerroom.com/authentic-taron-johnson-jersey , you want players who can lock a spot on the roster, preferably through special teams. Johnson will fit that role, and he has the passion to grow into a leader in the locker room. I can’t argue with that choice by the Bills.

He has 31 starts at safety in 72 career games. He is an unspectacular player who is perhaps better suited to a reserve role, but can be called upon to play both safety spots and slot cornerback if needed. He started only six games in 2018 Color Rush Dexter Lawrence Jersey , but was 10th on the defense with 521 snaps played.Thomas is, however, best known as a special teams player. One of the best in the league in that role for several seasons, he was finally acknowledged with his first Pro Bowl appearance after last season. He led the Giants with 347 special teams snaps played, and compiled a team-leading nine special teams tackles.Thomas is also an outstanding veteran presence. He is a stand-up guy who is always at his locker willing to speak with media in both good and bad times. He has been involved in special teams rules changes. He is active in the community. He figures to be the third safety behind Jabrill Peppers and Antoine Bethea, and to perhaps move into the slot in occasional sub packages. He also figures to again be a critical special teams player. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)The New York Giants added a major pass rusher on the opening day of training camp, signing veteran linebacker Connor Barwin. The Giants announced the move Wednesday as veterans reported to training camp at the team’s headquarters adjacent to MetLife Stadium. While terms were not disclosed, the deal was believed to be worth $5 million over two years.Barwin has played in 127 regular-season games with 109 starts for Houston, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Rams. The 2014 Pro Bowler has also started six playoff games. His career totals include 449 tackles Red Dexter Lawrence Jersey , 55 1/2 sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 42 passes defensed, and one interception. His career sacks total is the highest among current Giants, surpassing Olivier Vernon’s 44. Barwin had five sacks in 14 games last season.Barwin is the second linebacker to join the Giants after playing last season for the Rams; inside backer Alec Ogletree was acquired in a trade on March 14.To create room on the roster Cheap Dexter Lawrence Jersey , the Giants waived tight end Kyle Carter.”Connor and I were together in Philadelphia,” said coach Pat Shurmur, who has taken over a team that won three games last season. ”Veteran player, edge player, so he could play the outside linebacker position, he could be involved in the pass rush when we get to our four-man rush. But NBC Sports’ use of the “BatCam” and high-definition monitors in the broadcast booth for the first time allowed announcer Larry Collmus to call the race – providing viewers accurate play-by-play – despite not being able to see the horses.Much of the same technology will be utilized again at the Belmont on Saturday. In fact, it could be used at all Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup races to ensure fans at home can see the race sometimes better than those at the racetrack.“They put you in the best seat in the house,” said Drew Esocoff, who has directed NBC’s Triple Crown telecasts since 2011. “These cameras, whether they’re high-def or 4K, also allow for better manipulation of video: zooming in, zooming out without major degradation of the video quality. It just makes the viewing experience better and you’re also looking at it on high-def monitors. Compared to what you saw 25, 30 years ago Youth Matthew Slater Jerseys , it’s night and day.”Viewers benefit from some of the same technology that allowed NBC to broadcast the foggy Atlanta Falcons–New England Patriots NFL game in 2017 because unique camera angles can be used to show the action that may otherwise be obscured by weather. The monitors, which won’t be seen by viewers, are essential for Collmus, especially at the Preakness and other races where infield festivities block his view of the backstretch.Collmus, who has been the voice of all Triple Crown races on NBC since 2011, could have used the technology four years ago when he called American Pharoah running through the driving rain in the Preakness on the way to being the sport’s first Triple Crown winner since 1978. The monitors that were put in because of an additional infield concert stage last year actually turned out to be a Godsend because the fog forced him to call the entire race off them.“I call races through a pair of binoculars, my normal routine, and last I looked, they don’t work in the fog Matthew Slater Jerseys Stitched ,” Collmus said. “I just looked out over the track and realized, hey, you’re not going to be able to see anything. … I was completely dependent on camera shots.”After preparing for the situation by setting up anticipated camera angles that could show the race, Pierre Moossa, who directed Justify’s foggy Preakness victory because Esocoff was at a graduation, shifted from shot to shot. The television production truck parked outside the grandstand was full of white screens. As soon as Moossa saw the flash of a horse and gave the American viewing public the chance to see far better than anyone at Pimlico. The biggest difference from inside the production truck was the addition of the zip-line “BatCam” camera similar to the SkyCam used in football. Without that, the race would’ve been run almost blind with no video record to show for much of it.“It was the first year we had ever had that at the Preakness Stakes,” Moossa said. “That was able to be low enough to be able to cover the backstretch. If that camera wasn’t there, you would not have seen any horses for the entire backstretch. There was no other way to cover it.”The good news for viewers is now races can be called in almost any conditions.FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team Kenny Britt Jersey , Compete for PrizesPlay Now! Three days from turning 42, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is 16 regular-season games from becoming a free agent. Does he deserve a new deal that would extend his contract with the Patriots?“Have I earned [an extension]?” Brady said to reporters, via Darren Hartwell of NBCSportsBoston.com. “I don’t know, that’s up for talk show debate,” Brady told reporters Wednesday at Patriots training camp. “What do you guys think? Should we take a poll? Talk to Mr. Kraft, come on.”In 2019, Brady will earn $14 million in base salary; the question is whether the Patriots could give him a major boost, given the reality that Father Time eventually will win. His ever-advancing age could make the Patriots inclined to take Brady’s contract on a year-to-year basis. Brady was asked whether he’d welcome that approach.“We’re all day to day if you think about it,” Brady said Womens Adam Butler Jersey , putting a twist on an old bit. “None of us are really promised anything. But rather than dole out advice from one high draft pick to another after 12 NFL seasons, Washington’s veteran starter wants Darnold to chart his own path as a rookie.“All these situations are different,” Smith said. “He’s got some good guys in his QB room to lean on that have played a lot of ball, so he certainly didn’t need to hear me tell him anything. I think my rookie year’s probably more of an example of what not to do as opposed to what to do.”Before he can potentially earn the Jets’ starting job, Darnold could get the nod against Smith in the teams’ next preseason game Thursday night. Coach Todd Bowles would only say White Marcus Maye Jerseys , “All of our quarterbacks need to be ready to play,” but Darnold took the majority of first-team snaps this week and impressed the Redskins.Cornerback Josh Norman compared Darnold’s decision-making skills to Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz and Dallas’ Dak Prescott and found out firsthand that Darnold doesn’t throw like a rookie.“This little kid is not mistakes and he’s really accurate,” Norman said. “It’s kind of like, dang. You get rookies in here, you’re trying to like mess with them and bait them a little bit into thinking that he was going to throw a route that you know you could make a play on, and he’s not having it. And it’s so crazy to see that at an early age.”Fully aware of his early age Marcus Maye Jerseys 2019 , Darnold wants to be faster at calling plays and breaking the huddle. Bowles wants to see the USC product catch up on the playbook and knows the best experience comes from game action.“He studies his playbook and he goes out and tries to execute on the field and he tries to learn, which is great,” Bowles said. “You can’t see growth until years pass by, to a degree. I’m not going to measure him day-by-day from a growth standpoint in three weeks.”Smith doesn’t feel qualified to judge Darnold’s game cover to cover but liked what he saw at workouts this week.“Just from afar, I thought he looked good,” Smith said. “He has a great skillset White ArDarius Stewart Jerseys , can really throw it. He moves around well. I think he has good eyes.”Darnold, the third overall pick, actually looks a lot like Smith after the 49ers took him first in the 2005 draft. But it’s not on Smith to tutor Darnold; that’s up to veteran Jets Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater. The 39-year-old McCown is competing with Darnold for the starting job but has nothing but nothing but positive early impressions.“More than anything (he) does a good job of taking the classroom to the grass pretty efficiently. It doesn’t take him multiple meetings and walkthroughs and different things,” McCown said. “So far everything you look for to play the position, whether it’s just the desire and the want to and all that, all of those things are there and you have to have that in order to have a chance in this league.” The Patriots have outscored their first two opponents 76-3 ArDarius Stewart Jerseys 2019 , they’re stacked with talent on both sides of the ball and they’ve got the winningest coach/quarterback combo in NFL history, so it’s not a great surprise that the start to the season has some people wondering if they can run the table in the regular season. It’s also not a great surprise that someone would pose a question about the chances of that to quarterback Tom Brady. That’s what happened during a Monday appearance on WEEI and Brady’s answer was equally unsurprising to those who have followed these Patriots over the years.“So, I’m not thinking about anything more than 3-0 because that’s the only thing that matters,” Brady said. “That’s what we got this week. Today, wake up and I’m thinking about the Jets and how they’re going to attack us and how we need to attack them. It’s going to ebb and flow over the course of the whole season. There are big challenges ahead and to take your eye off what’s really important is a disservice to the team and we’re not doing that.”The Patriots haven’t been challenged in the first two weeks of the season and the Bills are the only team on the upcoming schedule — home for the Jets, at Buffalo and Washington White Darron Lee Jerseys , home for the Giants and at the Jets — that’s actually won a game this season, so this may not be the last time Brady’s going to be asked about the chances of making another run at an undefeated season.

The Packers have picked 75th four times in the team’s history, but only one made any significant contributions to the franchise. Two picks never played in the league, while the fourth player ended up as a multi-year starter for another franchise.Meanwhile, there have been a few notable picks by other NFL teams at 75 in recent years. One is a franchise left tackle Darnell Savage Jersey 2019 , as the Saints nabbed Terron Armstead in 2013, but that came a year after Seattle drafted Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson at that pick.Packers History at #751954: Sam Marshall, OT1958: Doug Maison, RBNeither of the first two picks at 75 overall in team history ever played a game in the NFL. In the 1950s, the 75th pick came in the seventh round of the draft, so this should not come as a huge surprise.1990: Bobby Houston, LBThe first of the Packers’ picks at 75 who actually played a down in the NFL was Houston, from North Carolina State. However, he only played one game for the Packers as a rookie. He ended up with the Atlanta Falcons later that year, then left for the New York Jets as a Plan B free agent in the spring of 1991.Once with the Jets, Houston found his game. After playing 14 games as a backup in 1991, Houston became a starter in 1992, holding on to a job in the starting lineup for five seasons through 1996. He posted 14.5 sacks with the Jets, adding six forced fumbles and four interceptions. His career gradually faded out Darnell Savage Jersey Mens , playing for three teams over two final seasons.2006: Jason Spitz, OLFinally, the Packers landed a contributor at 75 in 2006, Ted Thompson’s second draft as general manager. Over five seasons, Spitz started at every position on the interior of the offensive line, but he lost his grip on a starting position after suffering an injury during the 2009 campaign.Spitz was the Packers’ key backup interior lineman on the 2010 Super Bowl XLV team — he suited up for every game that season, but did not start, as the team got full seasons from left guard Daryn Colledge, center Scott Wells, and right guard Josh Sitton.Recent History at #752018: Derrick Nnadi, DT, Florida State (Chiefs)2017: Duke Riley, LB, LSU (Falcons)2016: Shilique Calhoun Youth Darnell Savage Jersey , DE, Michigan State (Raiders)2015: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State (Saints)2014: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn (Rams)2013: Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Saints)2012: Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin (Seahawks)2011: John Moffitt, G, Wisconsin (Seahawks)

This week, we tackle the roster building question about which place is better for roster building; free agency or the NFL Draft. It’s our featured question of the week below the podcast player. We also tackle questions this week on who will be a surprising veteran cut by the Bills this offseason, what would have to happen for Sean McDermott to be on the hot seat in 2020, who might have been the Bills coach in 2017 if McDermott was hired by the Cleveland Browns, the job Kim and Terry Pegula have done as owners, and the possibility of adding troubled but talented running back Kareem Hunt. General manager Brandon Beane has been talking about a veteran presence at center since the Senior Bowl. He wants that experienced anchor to the offensive line to help out Josh Allen in setting protections and solidifying the middle of the line, allowing them to potentially place inexperienced players at both guard spots.Let’s look at the track record for Beane:In September of 2017, just a few months after Beane took over as GM, he signed Eric Wood to a contract extension even though he had time remaining on his current deal. After Wood abruptly retired due to injury, Beane signed a four-year starter who had never missed a game as a pro; Russell Bodine. In Carolina, Beane watched as Ryan Kalil was named All-Pro twice and wne to the Pro Bowl five times. He earned several contract extensions with the Panthers, playing 12 years.Centers have been important for teams Beane has been on and he has ponied up the money for them time and time again. With that being said, only two guys are clear upgrades over Bodine; Matt Paradis and Mitch Morse.Paradis is recovering from a broken leg, but had made 57 consecutive starts for the Denver Broncos prior to that. He’s expected the be the crown jewel of the center class, and he is used to the weather of Denver (and Idaho, his home state). If Buffalo ponies up the money White Jerry Hughes Jerseys , they might be a team that can attract him.Buffalo coach Sean McDermott should have some connection to Morse through Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Not quite as durable as Paradis, Morse has been almost as good of a player when he stays in the lineup. He’s started 49 games over four seasons, playing in only 18 games over the last two years. Morse is more than three years younger than Paradis, which could also factor into the conversation. The rest of the center class have major injury problems, blocking problems, intelligence problems, or some combination of the three. At best, they are an even swap with Bodine, so there’s little point in adding them.If they want a solid center who is a clear upgrade over Bodine and doesn’t need time to adjust to the NFL, they need to grab one of these two guys. Even if it’s Paradis for three years to shepherd the young Allen from inexperienced to a veteran, it will be worth it.Show notes:Upgrading at the center positionList of centers available in free agencyList of centers available in the 2019 NFL DraftSurprise veteran cutsBills roster and cap hitsHere’s the contract page for my answer (LISTEN TO THE PODCAST!)List of available players at that positionMoreCleveland Browns decision-makers wanted Sean McDermott - except their ownerNFL.com report on Kareem Hunt likely being suspended for more than six gamesRemember Jerry Hughes Jerseys 2019 , you can call us at 716-508-0405 to leave your question about the Bills. Defensive end Jerry Hughes is set to stay around Buffalo a little longer.Hughes was heading into the final year of his current contract, but Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Hughes and the team have agreed to a two-year extension. Per the report, the deal is worth up to $23 million with $19.5 million in guarantees. The Bills discussed trading Hughes to the Rams last season, but didn’t reach an agreement in terms and the Rams moved on to acquire Dante Fowler from the Jaguars instead. He wound up recording seven sacks and three forced fumbles while appearing in every game.Hughes has not missed a game since landing with the Bills in a 2013 trade with the Colts. He was viewed as something of a disappointment in Indy after recording five sacks in three years after being selected in the first round of the 2010 draft, but he’s been more productive in Buffalo and is on track to continue playing a key role on their defense into the next decade.

EDTShareTweetShareShareWashington linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven might be undersized, but should the Giants be interested anyway?Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY SportsIf there was one surprise in the 2019 NFL Scouting combine, it was the performance of the off-ball linebackers. In the lead-up to the Combine it was believed that there was little in the way of depth after a couple top-tier players at the position. Many of the linebackers put intriguing play on tape, but there were persistent concerns regarding their size and athleticism. Many of those fears were put to rest with some surprisingly great performances in Indy, and at the same time many scouts were forced back to the film room to reassess their evaluations. One of those linebackers who was tagged as instinctive but undersized and with average at best athleticism was Ben Burr-Kirven out of Washington. The Giants might not be able to select one of the top-ranked linebackers in the class, but a player like Burr-Kirven could be a good value on the third day of the draft.MeasurablesProsAthletic linebacker with great range.Has three-down potential at the next level. Shows solid instincts.Shoots gaps very quickly. High-revving motor that never slows down.Quick to get depth on zone coverage. High football IQ for offensive concepts.ConsExplosive once in motion, but can be slow to commit to an action.Lack of length shows when taking on offensive linemen. Size might be a concern for some teams.Might not be able to play tight man coverage. Pass rush is a question.Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying Small, hyper-instinctive linebacker who plays with “clear eyes Womens Ryan Connelly Jersey , full heart” and consistently punches above his weight class for production totals that contradict his size. Unfortunately, size does matter -- especially in the middle of a defense -- and he might be too maxed out to add necessary mass. However, instincts and willful demeanor are traits required for outliers and Burr-Kirven has a chance to be just that kind of outlier as a backup linebacker and special teams demon.- Lance Zierlein (NFL.com - Scouting Report) Does He Fit The Giants? If the Giants are looking for a back-up linebacker who can be a special teams ace, compete with (or replace) Tae Davis as a nickel linebacker, and potentially grow into a starting role, Ben Burr-Kirven could be a great value. Burr-Kirven’s most natural spot on a defense would be as a weakside (or weak-inside) linebacker who primarily plays in space. He showed at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine that he does have next-level athleticism, confirming that what he put on tape wasn’t a mirage. For the Giants, Burr-Kirven’s most natural position in the base defense, the WILB or “moneybacker”, is occupied by Alec Ogletree. And whil Burr-Kirven is more athletic and has a better feel for coverage Authentic Ryan Connelly Jersey , the team would be unlikely to move on Ogletree for a rookie. And while B.J. Goodson is a solid linebacker who is a force coming downhill, his range is limited in coverage. The team could look for a more athletic linebacker to for the “moneybacker” position and move Ogletree to the SILB position in base defense. Burr-Kirven can’t do anything about his arm length, which could limit him taking on blockers at the NFL level, but he should continue to work on trusting his eyes and instincts. He shows a good feel for offensive concepts and routinely positions himself well to make a play or help make the stop. However, he can be a beat slow to commit and go make the play, and despite his athleticism, instincts, and IQ, he can still arrive late. Once he learns to fully trust what his eyes and instincts are telling him, Burr-Kirven could be a whirlwind on the field. The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former New York Giants starting offensive lineman Patrick Omameh. The Giants made Omameh one of their priority free agent signings Ryan Connelly Jersey Boys , giving him a three-year, $15 million deal early in the 2018 free agent period. The Giants’ signed Omameh after letting Justin Pugh and D.J. Fluker leave in free agency as they sought to completely renovate their offensive line. Omameh was eventually named the starting right guard following the 2018 NFL Draft and the selection of left guard Will Hernandez.Unfortunately, things did not work out well for Omameh at right guard, and he showed the deficiencies when run blocking (namely, inability to use his hands) which caused the Jaguars to sign Andrew Norwell to replace him at left guard. Ultimately, Omameh was benched in favor of veteran John Greco and was released following the acquisition of Jamon Brown.Omameh now re-joins the Jaguars, along with former Giants’ offensive tackle Ereck Flowers, who was signed by Jacksonville following his own benching and release earlier in the year.

Read more: First impression: Another typical Patriots draft

"The New England Patriots came away with ten players from the 2019 NFL draft — let’s take a closer look at them and what they bring to the table!32. K’Neal Harry Infant Joejuan Williams Jersey , WR, Arizona StateThe 6’2” wide receiver gives the Patriots something they have been lacking: a threat outside the numbers. Harry doesn’t have the best speed, but he consistently wins contested catches, and is electric with the ball in his hands. This is the type of splash that Patriots fans always hope for, but rarely get at the draft — we got it this year! It looks like we’re going to have a ton of fun watching him this season. Two links for your viewing pleasure:45. JoeJuan Williams, CB, VanderbiltWilliams is a big, physical corner, who the Patriots will probably be using to match up against bigger receivers or even tight ends. There are some people saying he has a chance to be the next Richard Sherman, and while that’s great, even if he isn’t, he should be a valuable matchup piece for the Patriots defense. The Vanderbilt product doesn’t have the best speed, but excels at press coverage, and, as a former receiver, has great ball skills.Once again:77. Chase Winovich, DE, MichiganWinovich is the player that I’m most excited about from this weekend. He’s a prototypical Patriot, as his motor just doesn’t quit, and he looks like a ton of fun to be around. Here’s the video of him getting the call that he’s being taken by the Pats. Physically Joejuan Williams Jersey Draft , he matches up well with Shea McClellin, who the Patriots liked but could never stay healthy. He’s 6’3’ 256, and he ran a 4.59 at the combine. Should have a good chance at reps right away. Two links for you:87. Damien Harris, RB, AlabamaAt first, one might think that Harris, their first pick in the 3rd round, might not fill a position of need. But remember, the Patriots turned into a run heavy team at the end of the season, so a solid back to give Sony Michel a blow might not be a bad thing. Harris is a powerful runner who does not have elite, straight line speed, which makes him very similar to Sony. He was never the “workhorse” at Alabama, but still topped 1000 yards twice, and 900 yards last season. He also had 20 rushing TDs in the last 2 seasons. Not much of a receiver, but should be a solid backup for Sony.101. Yodny Cajuste, OT, West VirginiaCajuste, at 6’5” 312, has a good chance at being the swing tackle for the Patriots this season. He is a solid pass blocker, who uses his length very well. His run blocking leaves something to desired Joejuan Williams NFL Jersey , but if there’s one position you should be confident about being able to coach up, it’s O-Line.118. Hjalte Froholdt, G/C, ArkansasOnce again, the Patriots drafted where they have really good players. Their line was their strength, and particularly the interior. However, Thuney is a free agent after this season, and they don’t have a ton of depth. Froholdt didn’t allow a sack the last two seasons, and went one-on-one against third overall pick Quinnen Williams and gave him everything he could handle. At 6’5” he’s a little tall for an interior lineman, but that hasn’t slowed him down yet. Also, he’s from Denmark. Here’s an interesting interview he did that talks a bit about that, and his football career.133. Jarrett Stidham, QB, AuburnThe Patriots finally drafted a quarterback, waiting until the end of the fourth round to do so. Stidham is a player who the Patriots were linked to before the draft process. He’s a guy who will stand in and take a hit, and has the potential to be accurate on his short and intermediate, and occasionally on his deep throws as well. This past year, however, the team was bad enough that it was tough to actually judge his play. He let pressure effect him a little too much, and his accuracy and decision making suffered because of it. This is a situation where the Patriots think he had the best potential out of the guys left Joejuan Williams NFL Draft , and, with Brady still needed a successor, decided to take a chance on him.159. Byron Cowart, DT, MarylandThe Patriots decided to go after some more depth on the defensive line. Cowart was a disappointing prospect in college: he was recruited to Auburn as the third overall prospect in his class, and the #1 defensive tackle prospect, but failed to ever do anything in Auburn. After transferring to Maryland, however, he was able to put together a decent season for the Terrapins in 2018. In the fifth round, you’re trying to find someone who can exceed their draft status, and who better to do that than a highly touted prospect who didn’t have great production in college.163. Jake Bailey, P, StanfordThe Patriots traded up to draft a punter. Not only a punter, but a right footed punter, who are more rare in New England than losing seasons. Seriously, only 34 punts have been kicked by right footed punters since 2000. The Patriots clearly felt as though, with Ryan Allen signing a one-year deal before this season, some competition in camp would be a good thing.252. Ken Webster, CB, MississippiThe Patriots Joejuan Williams Buffalo Bills Jersey , once again, go after a position that they don’t need. Cornerback is a spot where there are a ton of good players already on the roster. With that being said, this was a move to get an athlete, with a 4.43 40 time, a 133” broad jump, and a 43” vertical. They did something similar with Keion Crossen last season. With the third to last pick in the draft, it makes sense to go after an elite athlete, even if it’s a position you may not need.Pat is a host of The Patriot Nation PodcastInteract with him on Twitter @plane_pats Bears linebacker Khalil Mack must wait until just before game time to learn if he gets a chance to rush New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at Soldier Field.Mack played through an ankle injury in Chicago's last game, a 31-28 loss to Miami. On Friday, he practiced for the first time this week, although on a limited basis. Bears coach Matt Nagy says he thought Mack "moved around pretty good."Mack is listed as questionable for Sunday. Nagy says team medical personnel will monitor how he bounces back from Friday's practice.Mack has played in 70 straight games and has never missed a start."That's just who he is," the coach said.Ultimately, the decision will depend on Mack and the medical evaluations."When we get to the time when we've got to make a decision, then we'll go with what we feel is best for him and best for the team," Nagy said.Mack has five sacks, and last week was held without a sack for the first time this season. He didn't comment Friday on his injury, but wants to see the Bears defense bounce back from its worst game of the year when they face the Patriots."They're very explosive," Mack said. "They've got weapons over the top. They've got some good backs. And so it's going to be a challenge."Mack called last week's overtime loss and 31 points allowed "difficult to handle."Wide receiver Allen Robinson II practiced Friday on a limited basis after missing Thursday's practice because of a groin injury. He is questionable.Cornerback Bryce Callahan is also questionable after missing Friday's practice because of an ankle injury from Thursday's practice. Cornerback Marcus Cooper (hamstring) is doubtful. Cornerback Prince Amukamara (hamstring) and guard Eric Kush (neck) were removed from the injury list and are expected to play.

Then Nigel Bradham recovered a fumble at the Vikings 30 after Roc Thomas dropped a backward pass in the fourth quarter. But another illegal formation penalty followed and Wentz was called for intentional grounding. Coach Doug Pederson elected not to let Jake Elliott try a 58-yarder and the Eagles had to punt.“I feel we’re where we were two years ago,” Wentz said. “I’m confident we’ll fix it, but it’s frustrating right now.”Pederson tried to accept blame for the team’s struggles.“A lot of self-inflicted wounds. It starts with me. I have to self-examine,” Pederson said. “I have to do a better job.”Linval Joseph snatched Wentz’s fumble out of the air and rumbled the distance to give the Vikings a 10-3 lead in the second quarter. Stephen Weatherly knocked the ball loose and Wentz couldn’t recover to catch Joseph from behind after the strip-sack.Kirk Cousins tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Adam Thielen to extend the lead to 17-3 at halftime. The Eagles finally got going on the opening drive of the third quarter, but Eric Kendricks forced Jay Ajayi to fumble at the Vikings 5 and recovered it. Cousins connected deep with Thielen for 68 yards on the next play and the Vikings reached the Eagles 2 before settling for Dan Bailey’s 22-yard field goal.“I didn’t do my job Ameer Abdullah Jersey ,” Ajayi said. “There’s no excuse for it.”Many of his teammates had a share in the loss. The offensive line is struggling, receivers aren’t making plays and the two turnovers were costly. Playing his third game since returning from a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee, Wentz still hasn’t found a rhythm after finishing third in NFL MVP voting last season.“It’s really just beating ourselves,” All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson said. “At the same time, we have to be accountable. It starts with me and goes right down the line.”Three illegal formation penalties on the receivers were inexcusable.“We can’t have that Danielle Hunter Jersey ,” Pederson said. The Eagles haven’t scored more than 23 points in the first five games. They were 2 for 9 on third down.“We’re just tired of hearing it every game,” Wendell Smallwood said of the mistakes. “We have to stop doing it to ourselves. We’re putting ourselves in bad situations and having to fight harder than we need to. We’re just doing a lot of things we don’t normally do that you don’t see out of a championship team.” When the Vikings signed quarterback Kirk Cousins as a free agent this offseason, the thought was that his arrival would help the team build on last year’s 13-3 record and trip to the NFC Championship Game.It hasn’t quite worked out that way. The Vikings are 6-5-1 with a trip to Seattle for a game on Monday night on deck and a loss would deal their playoff hopes a blow heading into the final three games of the year. While that’s not where they hoped to be at this point in the year, Cousins said a few weeks ago that the experience with the Vikings was exceeding his expectations. Two losses in the last three games have led to a different response when Cousins takes stock of the team.“I do think that we can point to some times throughout the year where we’ve underachieved, not because we weren’t giving effort or preparation Eric Kendricks Jersey , but we just haven’t been able to sustain the level of potential in this locker room, play in and play out,” Cousins said, via the .The final four weeks offer a chance for Cousins and company to finish the year closer to the level many expected them to be on when the year got underway. Anything else will be taken as a big step back for Minnesota this season.

Mississippi State lineman Elgton Jenkins, the team’s second-round pick, looks like a ready-made starter at guard as a rookie, and will surely be in the mix to start on day one. In round three, general manager Brian Gutekunst tabbed Texas A&M’s Jace Sternberger as the team’s tight end of the future, evidently thrilled that he was still available with the 75th selection. As the third and final day of the draft gets underway, the Packers hold four selections between rounds four and seven. The team’s two fourth-round picks left on Thursday when Gutekunst traded up to select safety Darnell Savage — a move that Gutekunst felt was critical, saying that he knew for a fact that Savage would not have fallen to the Packers at 30.One possibility there is that the Ravens, who held the 22nd pick, were in on Savage. That seems plausible (particularly given the fact that Baltimore immediately traded down after the Packers selected Savage), and there is reason to believe that the Packers would have some level of insight into what Baltimore was looking for. After all Ka'dar Hollman Jersey Mens , Gutekunst’s new right-hand man, Milt Hendrickson, worked in the Ravens’ personnel department through the end of the 2018 season. He would certainly have some ideas as to what players the Ravens would have been considering there.Day three gets underway at 11:00 AM Central, and keep an eye on the Packers as a potential trade-up candidate into the fourth round. There are still a handful of surprising players remaining on the board, names like Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Hakeem Butler, and Amani Hooker. Tune in today to see if the Packers make a move for one of them.2019 NFL Draft — Day 3Start time: 11:00 AM Central TimeLocation: Nashville, TennesseeTV Coverage: NFL Network, ESPN, ABCOnline Streaming: NFL.com, ESPN appTime per pick: 5 minutes (4th through 6th rounds), 4 minutes (7th round)Full 2019 NFL Draft PrimerFull list of Green Bay Packers’ 2019 draft picksBest players remaining to start day threePackers’ Day 2 PicksRound 5, pick 12 (#150) — Kingsley Keke Youth Ka'dar Hollman Jersey , DL, Texas A&MRound 6, pick 12 (#185) — Ka’Dar Hollman, CB, ToledoRound 6, pick 21 (#194) — Dexter Williams, RB, Notre DameRound 7, pick 12 (#226) — Ty Summers, LB, TCUAPC Staff Twitter FeedA Twitter List by acmepackingco When a head coach gets fired during an NFL season, it’s as much about the culture of his team as it is about performance. That was the case in Green Bay, which in a move almost as stunning as its feeble showing against Arizona on Sunday White Ka'dar Hollman Jersey , Mike McCarthy was canned. The same McCarthy who was 125-77-2 in almost 13 seasons at the helm. The same McCarthy who guided the Packers to the 2010 championship. The same McCarthy who helped nurture Aaron Rodgers into a seeming shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Yet, with what the Packers have become recently and where they appeared headed at 4-7-1 in a season when NFC wild-card berths are up for grabs, it probably was the correct move to let McCarthy go.The offense, even with Rodgers, has stagnated. The secondary, as it is pretty much every year, is ravaged by injuries. The offensive line is a mess more often than it is a plus. And the skills of one of the great quarterbacks of his era — an era when offense is paramount for success — are being wasted.Team president Mark Murphy in a statement said the 2018 season “has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately.”“Mike has been a terrific head coach and leader of the Packers for 13 seasons, during which time we experienced a great deal of success on and off the field,” Murphy said.True. McCarthy also might find himself employed running another team in need of developing a quarterback (Jets? Buccaneers? Browns?) in 2019. For now, though, with the Packers severely underachieving and McCarthy unable to find answers against strong opponents or weak ones Adrian Amos Jersey , his departure made sense.“We haven’t played very well,” Rodgers said before being told McCarthy was fired. “We all take part in the disappointments and the failures that we’ve had this season. We’ve had a number of opportunities. It’s not like we’re getting blown out in a bunch of games. We’re in games.“I hate to repeat myself, but it’s applicable. … We’re not executing the right way.”Rodgers has never started a game for another coach, and he deserves some input into who replaces McCarthy. Whoever that might be, the least of his problems is quarterback, barring more injuries to Rodgers, who turned 35 on Sunday. Rodgers should have a few excellent years left. The deeper problems in Green Bay stem from years of injuries to key players, particularly on defense, that approach an epidemic. Is players’ health not being vetted properly before they join the team? Are they not diagnosed or treated properly when they get hurt? Is it bad luck? The Packers probably need to look into adding some talent through free agency before Rodgers is past his prime. That’s rarely been the approach on the tundra — yes, we know about Reggie White and Julius Peppers — but with Ted Thompson no longer the general manager, perhaps the thinking will change. In the NFC North, where Chicago is on the rise and Minnesota has more overall talent than Green Bay, a quick infusion of talent is essential. It would be somewhat ironic if McCarthy surfaced in Cleveland to work with Baker Mayfield. The Browns are the only other team to fire its head man thus far Billy Turner Jersey , and it would be surprising if Browns GM John Dorsey, who formerly worked for the Packers, isn’t interested. The Jets, who lost their sixth in a row in ignominious fashion at Tennessee on Sunday, almost certainly will be letting go of Todd Bowles soon. They also have a rookie QB in need of a guru.Meanwhile, the Packers begin a search they rarely make. Since 2000, they’ve had two coaches, Mike Sherman and McCarthy.Joe Philbin is the interim. Whoever is next, Green Bay, make sure Rodgers has a say.
