In the National Football League, momentum is everything. For the early part of the Sunday Night Football game at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Minnesota Vikings had it. Then George Iloka Jersey , they lost it to the New Orleans Saints, and didn’t come close to getting it back.Despite holding Drew Brees to under 200 yards passing, the Vikings shot themselves in the foot with numerous, disastrous turnovers that they couldn’t overcome in falling to the Saints by a final score of 30-20.The Saints got on the board first in this one, thanks to a 1-yard pass from Brees to Alvin Kamara. Minnesota answered back right away, however, with a 1-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to Stefon Diggs to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.Latavius Murray gave the Vikings their first lead of the night with a 1-yard touchdown run, but a missed extra point by Dan Bailey limited that lead to 13-7. Late in the second quarter Matt Wile Jersey , the Vikings appeared to have everything going their way, as Brees threw his first interception of the season into the hands of Harrison Smith to stop a Saints’ drive. The Vikings marched deep into Saints’ territory on the ensuing possession. . .And that’s when they lost the momentum.A short pass to the usually sure-handed Adam Thielen ended with Thielen putting the ball on the turf, and Saints’ cornerback Marshon Lattimore picking the ball up and returning it all the way to the Minnesota 33. Coupled with a penalty on Laquon Treadwell for throwing his helmet after the play, the Saints were in the Minnesota red zone, and capitalized with another 1-yard pass to Kamara. What looked like it could be a Vikings’ lead going into the locker room was instead a 17-13 halftime lead for the visitors.The Vikings got the ball coming out of the locker room, and turned the ball over on downs in their own territory when Cousins’ pass for Treadwell on a 4th-and-1 gamble fell incomplete. The Saints got a field goal on the ensuing drive to make the score 20-13, and then another disaster hit.Under pressure, Cousins was looking for Diggs Rashod Hill Jersey , who appeared to stop on his route over the middle and allowed the ball to go into the hands of Saints’ cornerback P.J. Williams. Williams did the rest, taking the ball to the house for a 45-yard pick-six, and suddenly the Vikings were down 27-13.Will Lutz added his third field goal of the night midway through the fourth quarter to make the score 30-13. The Vikings cut into the lead late in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard pass from Cousins to Thielen to cut the lead to 30-20. The Vikings attempted an onside kick after that, but it bounced harmlessly out of bounds and the Saints got the football. The stat sheet shows that Kirk Cousins had a nice night for anyone that started him in fantasy football. He completed passes for yards, but did have a killer interception that pretty well buried the Vikings’ chances of a comeback in this one.On the bright side, Adam Thielen did make history by going over the 100-yard mark for the eighth straight game. That breaks Charlie Hennigan’s mark for the most 100-yard games to start a season, and ties him with Calvin Johnson for the most consecutive 100-yard games in a season overall. He has a chance to break that record next week.Diggs actually led the Vikings in receiving in this one, catching ten passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Thielen wound up with seven catches for 103 yards and a score. Kyle Rudolph and Latavius Murray each wound up with 39 receiving yards in this one.On the ground Tom Compton Jersey , Latavius Murray had a decent game, rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. His opportunities after halftime were slim with the Vikings trailing. Thielen had 15 yards on the ground, and Mike Boone had a trio of carries for 11 yards.Defensively, the short-handed Vikings didn’t do that badly. Despite the absence of Anthony Barr, Xavier Rhodes, and Andrew Sendejo, Drew Brees threw for just 120 yards and a touchdown, and the Saints as a team had just 270 yards of offense. In the end Dan Bailey Jersey , it was the Vikings’ errors that ruled the day in this one.The Vikings’ three-game winning streak comes to an end, as they drop to 4-3-1 on the season. They’ll have just their second divisional game of the year next week when they play host to the Detroit Lions. On this route, Woods begins to run a variation of a slant going outside off the line of scrimmage and making a hard stick at the top of his cut. After that, Woods does a great job becoming a physical ball carrier breaking a tackle and gaining major yards after the catch. This was just one of a handful of big plays from the dependent-yet-great wide receiver.The Rams went into Century Link undefeated and left in the same manner. It was another good offensive performance for a team that seems unstoppable on that side of the ball. They had Case Keenum, who was coming off of the best season of his career in leading the Vikings to the 2017 NFC Championship Game. They had Sam Bradford, who looked amazing in the 2017 opener before getting injured and giving way to Keenum. And they had Teddy Bridgewater, who fought back from a gruesome knee injury to get back on the field and had endeared himself to many of the Vikings’ faithful despite not putting up huge statistical numbers.Yet, when the time came to give out a big quarterback contract in March of 2018, Vikings’ GM Rick Spielman, head coach Mike Zimmer, and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo decided that the answer to that question was “none of the above.” Instead, they wined, dined, and eventually gave the first fully-guaranteed contract in the NFL’s free agency era to Kirk Cousins. Cousins had bided his time in Washington, playing under the franchise tag for two consecutive years, but was never really embraced by the coaching staff in the nation’s capital. . .or the majority of the fan base, for that matter.It’s still early in the season, but to this point it appears that the people that run the Vikings might kind of sort of have an idea about what they’re doing.We’ll skip Bridgewater, who hasn’t seen the field in 2018 because he’s backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans.In Arizona, Bradford started the first three games of the season for the Cardinals (who the Vikings will see this coming Sunday). In those three games, he threw for a total of 400 yards, including a 90-yard performance in a shutout loss against the Rams. He was pulled late in the team’s Week 3 loss to Chicago in favor of rookie Josh Rosen. In each of the last two games, not only has Bradford not played, he hasn’t even been active. That means that not only was he behind Rosen on the depth chart, he’s now behind Mike Glennon.Yes, Mike Glennon. But at least he’s getting about $20 million this year to not dress on game day.In Denver, things haven’t been much better for Keenum. He got off to a decent enough start, throwing three touchdown passes (and three interceptions) in a season-opening victory over Seattle. Then, he had no touchdown passes in Week 2.Or Week 3.Or Week 4.He finally got back on track against the Jets on Sunday with two more scoring throws Adam Thielen Jersey , but the Broncos are now riding a three-game losing streak after winning their first two games.Cousins, on the other hand, has been pretty good.With Brees yet to play in Week 5 action, Cousins is currently second in the NFL in passing yardage (behind Jared Goff), and is currently completing over 71% of his passes, despite being one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the National Football League so far this season. He’s thrown 11 touchdown passes through the team’s first five games, and has thrown only two interceptions, both of which came on passes that really should have been caught by their intended receiver. He’s on pace to shatter just about every Vikings’ single-season passing record.I understand that Cousins gets the benefit of an incredibly talented supporting case, with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs comprising the best receiving duo in the NFL and Kyle Rudolph continuing to do his thing as well. Keenum and Bradford undoubtedly benefited from having those players to work with as well. However, Cousins was good before he got the opportunity to work with this group of skill position players. The Vikings knew that Cousins’ skills would be even more enhanced by getting to work with those guys. Keenum and Bradford, on the other hand, got the benefit of playing with those players as well but couldn’t get the Vikings to the promised land.I can’t imagine that there are a lot of holdouts left in the pro-Keenum or pro-Bradford or pro-Bridgewater camps after the first five weeks of this season. However, at this early juncture, it sure does look like the Vikings have made the right decision. We are less than twenty-four hours away from kicking things off at MetLife Stadium for this Sunday’s contest between the New York Jets and your Minnesota Vikings. Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones pulled himself out of the team’s game against the New York Jets, head coach Adam Gase revealed after the team’s 13-6 win. Jones was on the sideline throughout much of the game, but remained in uniform and no injury update was ever passed to the media. Jones was not in the locker room after the game for comment.Jones has been playing through a shoulder issue. I have high expectations for the career of Patrick Mahomes. A signature win like the comeback in Denver isn’t supposed to happen in the fifth game. There was no margin for error in the fourth quarter. The kid was dragging his team through penalties, drops, busted coverage, poor tackling and an opponent treating it like their Super Bowl.Doubt about Mahomes eventually reaching his full potential died on Monday Night Football. All of it. That performance transcends any idea that this was a fluke stretch. Some quarterbacks can get hot. Flukes don’t get hot for three games and then save their best for the biggest moments when everything is going wrong.Something goodI thought this had a case for the best throw of Mahomes’ season when it happened. Then the fourth quarter happened. This would make an appearance later in the week in the something special article most weeks. We're going to gush about some of the rapid improvements Mahomes made in negotiating the pocket this week. This was one of many examples of a perfectly-timed step up and escape from the pocket. Not only did he negotiate the pocket perfectly, but he also worked with his eyes upfield and pumped a throw to Tyreek Hill before seeing a void and Kelce coming late on the scramble drill. That was a smart Tanoh Kpassagnon Jersey , quick decision that may have somehow been the least risky throw. And we have yet to say something about the throw. No one attempts this throw. Tom Brady and Drew Brees are two of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game and they're incapable of doing this. He delivered from an awkward platform, in an often densely populated middle of the field with more airtime than you want the ball to be in under those circumstances. But, arm talent. Mahomes was calculated enough to execute this play while protecting the ball. He has done special things and still hasn’t thrown an interception. The kid was made to do this.Something badI may be a prisoner of the moment, but I would feel guilty being too picky today. Today's something bad doesn't fall on the quarterback. This second half throw resulted in the Chiefs attempting a field goal from the 3-yard line in a close game on the road. I was fully prepared to rip Andy Reid for a decision to surrender the chance for six. I still disagree with the call, even though it ultimately didn't matter.I like the idea of moving the pocket on this third-and-goal. Mahomes doesn't have anyone open and with a defender closing, puts his foot in the ground and makes the defender miss. Since he was in a sprint out design Armani Watts Jersey , stopping his movement to the sideline means that more defenders are closing. He had to get rid of the ball quickly.The ability to process in chaos and have the presence of mind to see Demarcus Robinson working toward him so quick, the ability to deliver the ball on a rope and accurately, all with a guy on the verge of hitting him, is absurd. Mahomes hit Robinson in the chest. It's a shame Reid even had to make a fourth-down decision.
