It’s a well-known fact that to beat Tom Brady’s

Patriots http://www.thebearslockerroom.com/authentic-brian-urlacher-jersey , you need to consistently get into his grill and get him on the ground. Now, that’s the same game-plan for most quarterbacks but it holds especially true for the future First-ballot Hall of Famer. To beat Brady, you must pressure and you must get him to the ground. Any other strategy is certain death against a player who has seen every imaginable defense deployed against him after featuring in the NFL for almost 20 years. So what did the Bears and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio attempt to do against Brady on Sunday? They had their superstar pass rusher Khalil Mack drop back into coverage a career-high 18 times, according to Pro Football Focus. Not to be completely outdone, Mack’s starting edge partner, Leonard Floyd, dropped back into coverage 13 times. The pair generated a combined two pressures on occasions where they actually rushed the passer. That’s not getting into Brady’s grill. Call me crazy, but if Mack is already rolling with a bum ankle, why have him move backwards against better offensive athletes? He’s either healthy enough to play or he isn’t. The decoy ideal doesn’t work if it’s not letting your talisman get back up to speed health-wise. Scheming a way to keep Mack on the field in a way he isn’t comfortable or healthy makes little sense. Fangio better find answers for a reeling defense soon, and it’s not in the form of not having Mack pin his ears back. Elsewhere defensively, the Bears’ tackling improved tremendously after their embarrassment to the Dolphins. Chicago missed just six tackles and no back seven defender allowed more than 55 yards in coverage. That includes Kyle Fuller, Roquan Smith, and Bryce Callahan Womens Leonard Floyd Jersey , who all allowed four receptions each. Effort that will have to continue if the Bears are to get out of their first two-game losing streak of the Matt Nagy era. On the offensive side of the ball, the Patriots took note of Mitchell Trubisky’s struggles against pressure and ran with it. New England blitzed Trubisky 21 times on 58 drop backs, and Trubisky only went 5-of-20 for 36 yards on such plays. When the Patriots didn’t blitz, Trubisky completed 70 percent of his passes and averaged 9.9 yards per attempt.A lot of Trubisky’s struggles against the Patriots in particular was when going deep. On nine pass plays that went 20 yards or more, Trubisky was 1-of-9 for 54 yards. Essentially, the only time he found a Bears receiver downfield was Kevin White’s desperation Hail Mary. Otherwise, the young and rattled passer could not take advantage of chunk play opportunity after chunk play opportunity. The book is out on the Bears’ young quarterback and their defense, and they better adjust soon. Fact: John Wetzel invented The Electric Slide"The Falcons committed this off-season to a wholesale re-tooling of their offensive line. We expected that following head coach Dan Quinn’s declaration heard ‘round the world. In short, as of early January, everyone not named Jake Matthews or Alex Mack was potentially on the chopping block. Falcons owner Arthur Blank doubled down on that promise in February. So when the Falcons parted ways with Ryan Schraeder and snatched up James Carpenter and Jamon Brown in mid-March, none of us were surprised. A month later Eric Kush Jersey , the Falcons added Adam Gattis as additional interior OL depth. Fast forward to Monday, when the Falcons inked a deal with veteran OT John Wetzel. He started 5 games for the Cardinals last season before suffering a season-ending neck injury which ultimately led to his foray into restricted free agency. Wetzel won’t be the starter, but he’s sure to make Matt Gono anxious as Gono looks to retain the swing tackle gig in 2019. It’s worth noting that Wetzel took over at right tackle for Andre Smith in early September last year, and instead of hedging his bets, Steve Wilks told the media “I feel great about Wetzel.” As recently as February, Walter Mitchell from SB Nation Cardinals site Revenge of the Birds raved about Wetzel’s downfield blocking ability and versatility. I’m rambling now, but the bottom line is this: Wetzel was a well-respected, quality backup in Arizona. But for the regime change there and his season-ending injury in 2018, he’d still be in a Cardinals uniform. As a former undrafted free agent, Wetzel parlayed his size (6’7 and 328 pounds) and surprising athleticism into his first NFL contracts with the Raiders, Cowboys, and Colts. He toiled on practice squads until 2016, when he became a starter in Arizona. Since October 2016 Stephen Denmark Chicago Bears Jerseys , Wetzel has started 24 NFL games. That’s a significant amount of snaps as a starter. (More on that later.) To be clear, I’d rather he not be forced into a starting gig in Atlanta. But if the need to spell Ty Sambrailo arises, he’s a good guy to have around. Sample size is everything, but in 5 games last year, Wetzel earned a grade of 55.0 from PFF. (72nd among qualifying tackles and “average,” according to their metrics.) His pass blocking was slightly below average while his run blocking was average. In 2017, Wetzel was an above-average run blocker and a below average pass blocker. The same was true in 2016. So if you ask me what to expect from Wetzel, my answer will be straightforward and I’ll be confident giving it: the kid is going to run some defenders over in the running game and might be an occasional liability in the passing game. If we’re talking about a potential swing tackle, I’ll take a guy with his versatility and that kind of established track record any day. If there’s a scenario where Wetzel suddenly becomes a complete non-factor, it’s the Falcons drafting an offensive tackle at 14. But again, his experience is invaluable. Wetzel has played at guard and both tackle possessions in actual NFL games. He’s racked up over 1,900 regular season snaps. In that time, he’s allowed 10 sacks Chicago Bears Jerseys 2019 , 25 QB hits, and 83 hurries, which is a little disconcerting, if you’re talking about a starter. But as depth signings go, especially if he’s making the veteran minimum (around $730k for a player with 3 years of accrued service), Wetzel made a ton of sense. We’ll have to see how his contract details break down, but for now, Thomas Dimitroff deserve a lot of credit for finding this diamond in the rough.

In this re-draft, the Cleveland Browns decided to jump on the All-Pro safety with the 4th-overall pick instead of cornerback Denzel Ward, who also went on to have one of the best individual seasons among 2018 rookies. Here’s what they had to say about the pick:As the re-draft went on, guys like Darius Leonard (the Rookie Defensive Player of the Year) and Leighton Vander Esch went a number of picks higher, being the first two linebackers off the board. Due to this change, consensus top linebacker prospect heading in to the draft, Roquan Smith, fell easily to the Chargers at pick #17.Here’s what they had to say about this turn-of-events:Hindsight is 20/20 but Smith landing in LA would’ve been just as amazing were it to have actually happened this time last year. In his first season in Chicago Cheap Nasir Adderley Jersey , Smith led the team in total tackles with 121. He also added in five sacks and an interception, to boot. Take your pick of James or Smith, but I believe either one is going to end up being a future all-pro for years to come. What do you guys think of the re-draft? Would you still be excited about this pick? When you get into the swing of things here at the Senior Bowl, you become so focused on the prospects that are participating that you sometimes forget that there are a number of other players in..."When you get into the swing of things here at the Senior Bowl, you become so focused on the prospects that are participating that you sometimes forget that there are a number of other players in the draft that aren’t these senior all-stars.I always find that quite amusing and it gave me an idea: What if they were the only players in this year’s draft? So with that theme, I decided to churn out a mock-draft by only using the players that are here in Mobile, Alabama.Let’s do this.Round 1 - Andre Dillard, Offensive Tackle, Washington StatePrior to arriving at the Senior Bowl, Dillard was one of the offensive linemen I was unable to scout that much beforehand. But man Youth Michael Schofield Jerseys , am I upset that I haven’t looked at him sooner.Dillard stood out to me before he even hit the field, measured just under 6-foot-5 and tipping the scales at 310 pounds. Most impressively, he was one of the better-looking offensive linemen in terms of how he carried that weight on his frame. Distributed evenly with bad weight hard to come by.When he finally put the pads on, his talent in pass protection was apparent. He possesses some of the most active feet which help him in terms resetting and keeping his base wide. It’s tough for defenders to catch him off-balance due to this, as well. Hand-placement was consistent, rarely finding a landing spot outside of the defender’s numbers. In another draft short of elite offensive tackle prospects, Dillard is likely one of the only tackles worthy of a first-round pick.Round 2 - Te’Von Coney, Inside Linebacker, Notre DameConey paired with Drue Tranquil to to head one of the top defenses in the country this past season. Coney measured in at 6-foot-0 and 7/8 while maintaining a stout 244 pounds. He isn’t the tallest linebacker, but that’s not something Coney will allow to hold him back.As a junior in 2017 Michael Schofield Jerseys Stitched , Coney received a starting job after a senior in front of him was lost to injury. He would go on to start only seven games but still amassed 116 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss.In his senior year, Coney made the transition from outside to inside linebacker where he told me he prefers to play as he gets to command the defense. Pro Football Weekly’s Greg Gabriel said that his athleticism, instincts, and speed will be what eventually seperates Coney from the rest of the linebackers in the class. This year, he finished his final season in South Bend with 123 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss, four sacks, and an interception.Round 3 - Khalen Saunders, Defensive Tackle White Corey Liuget Jerseys , Western IllinoisSaunders has come out of nowhere to take the Senior Bowl, and the entire scouting community, by storm. The 6-foot-0, 320-pound nose guard has been an unstoppable force in his first two practices this week, usually going up against the the likes of NCST C Garrett Bradbury and Wisconsin OG Michael Deiter. On day 2 of practices, Saunders won a rep against Wisco’s RG Beau Benschawel even after it looked like the guard had the upper hand. With his chest almost parallel to the ground following a slight stumble, Saunders shot his arm in the gut of Benzshawel and kept churning his feet, inevitably throwing the linemen into the invisible quarterback five yards back.In his final season, Saunders racked up 72 total tackles, 6.5 sacks Corey Liuget Jerseys 2019 , ans 13 tackles-for-loss.And, I mean, that back-flip is still pretty cool, right?

On a serious slide since his eye-opening rookie season, Mark and I try to identify what we missed on his college evaluation and what went wrong for Prescott since. We also make an educated guess on how Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz can craft his pass rush plan to exploit bad habits in Prescott’s game.PLUS RJ Ochoa from Blogging the Boys drops in to give his thoughts on the upcoming game from a Dallas perspective. All of that and more in the first episode of The QB Scho Show with myself and Mark Schofield! Subscribe here if you haven’t already and drop a written review and a five star rating because you’re awesome and we love you. FLY EAGLES FLY! What they’re saying about Philly’s Day 2 picks."The Philadelphia Eagles selected Miles Sanders at No. 53 overall and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside at No. 57 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. There was thought the team might trade down and/or take a defensive player with at least one of their picks but instead the Eagles are loading up on offensive talent. Now it’s time to see how the so-called “experts” have graded these selections. Draft grades are hardly the ultimate determination of whether a pick is actually good or not Andre Dillard Jersey Color Rush , but it’s still interesting to see what non-Eagles fans are saying about the selection. But before we do that, let’s look at how Eagles fans reacted to the picks here at Bleeding Green Nation. With just over 3,700 votes cast, 89% of Eagles fans are giving the Sanders selection either an “A” or “B” grade.I’ll give the Sanders pick a “B” grade. Some things I do like about the Sanders pick:The Eagles FINALLY drafted a talented running back. They’re no longer going overboard in neglecting the position.Sanders has low mileage after only logging 308 total touches in three years at Penn State.Sanders fits the Eagles’ need for a back who can make defenders miss and is able to contribute as a pass catcher.Sanders can be the 1A in the Eagles’ running back rotation but he doesn’t necessarily need to carry the ground game right away with Jordan Howard in the fold.Sanders is only 21 and might have some untapped potential after being used in a limited role in college. There’s some thought he could end up being the best back from this class.Sanders has a strong athletic profile:Some things I don’t like about the Sanders pick:Ball security issues. Sanders had five fumbles in 2018. Sanders gets knocked for poor vision and struggles in pass protection. These issues, combined with the fumbling thing, remind me of why Wendell Smallwood can be so frustrating. Sanders is better than Smallwood but, still, this line from Thor Nystrom sums up my concern with this pick: “If Sanders hits his ceiling Cheap Andre Dillard Jersey , he’s going to become one of the best backs in this class — perhaps even the very best. If it turns out that this is just sort of who he is, then he’ll be a solid-enough committee guy, eminently replaceable.” You don’t take a running back at No. 53 overall to be “Just A Guy.” There’s pressure on Sanders to produce at a fairly high level.Sanders only ranked 13th among draft eligible running backs in yards after contact per attempt, per Pro Football Focus. The downside to Sanders’ low usage is that’s there isn’t a huge track record of production and experience. Now let’s take a look at how Eagles fans are grading the JJAW pick. With just under 4,200 votes cast, only 65% are giving the pick a “B” grade or better.I’ll give the JJAW pick a B-.Some things I do like about the JJAW pick:The Eagles are loading up on weapons for Carson Wentz. That’s always nice to see. Investing in offense in general is a good philosophy. It’s no coincidence the top four offenses in the NFL (Chiefs, Patriots, Saints Andre Dillard Jersey 2019 , Rams) were all playing in the Conference Championship Games this year.JJAW is absolute beast at the catch point. Ever since Terrell Owens entered my life, I’ve always had a soft spot for big guys who look unguardable on jump balls. The Eagles have a lot of size with JJAW, Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, and even Mack Hollins. Their red zone efficiency could improve in 2019 after dropping to 17th last season.JJAW can potentially replace Jeffery down the road. Jeffery has a near $16 million cap number in 2020 and can be cut to save just over $10 million. To be clear, I’m not rushing Jeffery out the door. Just saying the option will be there. The Eagles have talked about how they believe wide receiver is a position that really takes time to learn in the NFL. JJAW won’t immediately be forced into a huge role. Some things I don’t like about the JJAW pick:Not perfectly sure how JJAW fits into this offense. Jeffery, DeSean Jackson Black Seth Joyner Jerseys , and Nelson Agholor are the current projected starters. Does Agholor get traded? There’s been buzz that he’s available but Howie Roseman downplayed that idea on Friday night. How much playing time does JJAW get if Agholor stays?JJAW reportedly ran in the 4.4’s and actually ranked 11th in explosive players in 2018 but there are questions how his play speed will translate to the NFL. It felt like the Eagles had the most tackleable offense in the NFL last year. Too many guys who can’t make stuff happen with the ball in their hands. JJAW is another guy who isn’t going to get this team YAC.Speaking of translation issues, how much will JJAW be able to rely on catching jump balls in the NFL? The Eagles weren’t able to trade down and acquire more picks ... or address their defense at all so far. It’s going to be annoying to type out JJAW’s full name at times. Will no one think of the bloggers?! Also: how are we pronouncing JJAW out loud? Jay jaw? Jay jay ay doubleyou? You have to be concerned JJAW doesn’t pass the Jack Fritz name test. Now for more hot takes and draft grades from “experts” around the web.ESPN (Winners)The Athletic (A- and B for Sanders; B and B- for JJAW)Sanders:JJAW:NFL.com (A)Bleacher Report (B for Sanders, A- for JJAW)DraftWire (B for Sanders; B for JJAW)Another receiver not named D.K. Metcalf comes off the board. Getting more weapons for Carson Wentz is a priority, and this is one of the best red-zone targets in the draft.CBS Sports (A for Sanders; B+ for JJAW)Sports Illustrated (A for Sanders; B for JJAW)

Now they prepare for a trip to Jacksonville on Sunday and an early AFC South showdown with the defending division champ Tennessee swept last season before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 30.But Tennessee might be without starting quarterback Marcus Mariota for a second straight week, and only time will tell if any of the Titans' top three offensive tackles might be available Sunday against the Jaguars (2-0) as well. Mariota still is having numbness in his right, throwing hand from hurting his elbow in the season opener.Mariota watched from the sideline, active and dressed. Vrabel said Mariota physically remains about where the quarterback was Friday or Saturday when the Titans decided to start backup Blaine Gabbert instead of Mariota."I think and I'm hopeful that it'll improve as quickly as possible," Vrabel said of Mariota on Monday. That puts Gabbert in line for a second straight start, this against the team that drafted him at No. 10 overall in 2011 no less. It wouldn't be his first game against his old team. Gabbert led Arizona to a victory last November over the Jaguars, and he said this isn't his first rodeo."I've been in a lot of different situations. I'm always ready to go," Gabbert said. "Whether you're a starter or a backup, 13-guy Womens D.J. I just stuck to my routine, prepared the same way as I always have, and just stuck with that."Vrabel said right tackle Dennis Kelly, who has been filling in while starter Jack Conklin recovers from the left ACL torn in January, has been released from the hospital after dealing with an undisclosed illness. Vrabel said Conklin should do more at practice this week, while two-time Pro Bowl Taylor Lewan is progressing in the concussion protocol."When that guy's ready, we'll put him in the game," Vrabel said. The coach and his assistants showed in their win over Houston that they could find ways for the Titans to score points and move the ball even missing several key starters. The Titans used a fake punt for a 66-yard touchdown pass Cody Kessler Jersey , and Derrick Henry ran the wildcat for a handful of snaps on Tennessee's lone TD drive. Defensively, the Titans came up with four sacks and an interception. They also limited Deshaun Watson to a final completion that proved meaningless as the clock expired.Linebacker Brian Orakpo called it a great one, two, three punch."I'm definitely excited for this team overall," Orakpo said. "We finally came out on the right end, and we're trying to get back to the winning ways. We still have a long way to go and a long road ahead of us, but I'm excited because it was a big divisional win and coach Vrabel's first win. Very exciting."Follow Teresa M. Walker at teresamwalker The Jaguars officially signed wide receiver Terrelle Pryor on Monday and he hit the practice field with his new team for the first time. That starts a learning process that began for the rest of the team a couple of months ago, but the team won’t be trying to speed Pryor’s acclimation process along before the end of the offseason program next week. Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said on Monday that they will “slowly bring [Pryor] in” after he’s spent the offseason working out on his own.Marrone also explained some of what drew the team to Pryor.“He is very smart,” Marrone said, via Jacksonville.com. “I think he has communicated well up until this point http://www.thejaguarslockerroom.com/authentic-nick-foles-jersey , which I’ve only had limited communication [with him].

The Jaguars are without two of their top defensive players for the start of offseason workouts DJ Chark Jersey , but coach Doug Marrone isn’t ready to sound the alarm. cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Telvin Smith weren’t on hand for the start of the voluntary program.Marrone said he reached out to both players but hadn’t heard back from either.“It’s a voluntary period; it’s an option,” Marrone said. “I don’t try to concern myself with things that are out of my control. I’m sure they’re both working hard.”“I haven’t talked to them, but those are two guys I’m not worried about,” veteran defensive end Calais Campbell said. “Those are guys I know are going to come back in top-tip shape, focused and ready to go. I know their grind and work ethic. They’re going to be just fine.”Of course http://www.thejaguarslockerroom.com/authentic-a.-j.-cann-jersey , they are voluntary, so any reason is sufficient. But Smith’s been paid, while Ramsey’s still waiting for his first chance at free agency. He’s in the fourth year of his rookie deal (pending the fifth-year option), and he’s clearly ready to talk about the future. The Jaguars might not be there yet, but they were careful to shoot down reports that Ramsey was on the trade block this offseason. Jalen Ramsey says New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore‘s criticism is “lame, corny Womens Marqise Lee Jersey ,” adding “but it’s him, though.”In a radio interview Wednesday, Gilmore took a shot at the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back by saying “a lot of people can talk, but you’ve got to back it up, which he does. Sometimes.”Speaking to “The Sports Hub” radio show in Boston, Gilmore added: “That’s not my style Telvin Smith Jersey , but I find a lot of guys that talk are mostly zone guys so they have a lot of energy to do that.”Ramsey fired back Thursday, saying “we know that’s furthest from the truth.”“I’m going to continue to do what this team asks me to do,” Ramsey said. “Man or zone. Maybe he should try it. I was All-Pro.”Ramsey usually plays press coverage and regularly follows the opponent’s best receiver all over the field. He shadowed New York Giants star Odell Beckham in the season opener and did the same last week against Kansas City speedster Tyreek Hill. Beckham caught 11 passes for 111 yards against Jacksonville, with 63 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Hill had four receptions for 61 yards, including a 36-yarder over Ramsey.“I’ve never understood why somebody on the same side of the ball would hate on another guy,” said Ramsey http://www.thejaguarslockerroom.com/authentic-t.j.-yeldon-jersey , who made headlines in the preseason for ripping many NFL quarterbacks . “Usually we’re going against the opponent. Maybe I’m a threat or something. I really don’t know. … It was weird to me. It’s lame, corny, but it’s him, though.”Ramsey has 17 tackles and one pass breakup this season.“If the team is happy with my production out there, whether I’m playing man or zone, I’m good with it Womens Ronnie Harrison Jersey ,” he said. “I’m a zone guy. I’m a man guy. I’m going to do what the team asks me and I’m going to do it at a high level. It’s cool. We know that’s furthest from the truth, though. I play a good mix of both, but I think everybody knows I’m playing man majority of the time.”___

The Bears are leaving the door open to that

After Matt Nagy recently revealed he called Kareem Hunt to check on his well being Stephen Denmark Chicago Bears Jerseys , the Bears immediately joined the list of candidates expected to pursue the running back. but Chairman George McCaskey tapped the brakes. McCaskey agrees with General Manager Ryan Pace that the Bears “aren’t there yet.” “Ryan said we’re not there yet; I think that’s the best way to put it,” McCaskey told Rich Campbell of the on Thursday. “He’s not eligible right now. He may not become eligible for quite some time.”The NFL placed Hunt on the Commissioner Exempt List on Nov. 30 after TMZ published a video of him shoving and kicking a woman in the hallway of his Cleveland residence. The Chiefs cut Hunt, who led the league in rushing as a rookie with Nagy as his offensive coordinator.“I think the important thing, as Matt pointed out, is that he addresses his personal situation before worrying about football,” McCaskey said. The Bears are owned by McCaskey’s 96-year-old mother, Virginia, but McCaskey disagreed with the idea that her ownership creates a “special dynamic” since Hunt’s violence was against a woman.“This is a vexing social problem that everybody needs to be concerned about,” McCaskey said. “Violence by a man against a woman should offend everyone regardless of gender. But . . .she and I are like-minded. She entrusts me with this responsibility to make this assessment on behalf of ownership.”The NFL is expected to suspend Hunt but allow him to return during the 2019 season. He is expected to have several teams interested in signing him. The Bears are preparing for their first playoff game in eight seasons. You’ve got questions about the biggest game in years and we’ve got answers."After eight long years, it’s finally time. The Chicago Bears are in the playoffs and hosting that game at Soldier Field, where it has magically become a sizable home field advantage. It’s been a pretty miraculous season overall, finishing (12-4), but sadly that record won’t lead to a first round bye.Even so, the Bears opened as a (-5.5) favorite over the Philadelphia Eagles (that number has since climbed to 6) Chicago Bears Jerseys Stitched , who needed the Bears help to get into the playoffs. Because of those odds, the Bears are actually the heaviest favored team in the opening round of the playoffs. All in all, the Bears have had a season to remember and an incredible seven-game turnaround. But with that, the expectations have changed, and I think I speak for most when I say a first round loss would be somewhat of a disappointment after such a breakout season. The good news? I don’t see that as likely on Sunday, but for more on this weekend’s game, let’s dive into the first edition of the playoff Bears mailbag. This could absolutely be recency bias on my part, but I truly believe that the 2018 version of the Bears may be slightly better than the one that made it to the Super Bowl in 2006. Here’s where:Better overall offense. I’d take Mitchell Trubisky and the offensive minds surrounding this staff.Similar defense (better if you look at Football Outsiders’ DVOA rankings). The issue is that the Bears won’t have home field advantage, outside of likely their first game. That’s where the big issue (for me) comes in. It is worth noting that this year’s defense may carry more value because of the offensive uptick we’ve seen in 2018. I truly believe this 2018 version of the Bears is more than talented enough to win a Super Bowl. Hell, they are a top three team in the NFL this year. I just wonder if a lack of experience and them not having home field advantage will be a bigger issue. The short answer is, no.A few years back, the NFL changed their rules to where each NFL team could return/designate two players from injured reserve. The problem? The Bears chose their two in both tight end Adam Shaheen and right guard Kyle Long. So, because of that, Bryce Callahan is not eligible to come off injured reserve. At least from what I’ve been told, yes. The plan appears to be resting him as long as possible (two games and either a practice or two this week) Stephen Denmark Jersey 2019 , but ultimately they are expecting him to play on Sunday.Much like they’ve handled their key injured players all season, they’ve played it safe, and I expect them to handle this the same way.Realistically, he could probably use another week or so off, but the entire reason they’ve being sitting him and playing it carefully is so he can play on Sunday. It’s also worth noting that Jackson is out of his walking boot. I’d expect him to play Sunday, but Friday’s practice will tell the real story.I think it’s more than fair for people to either be worried about Trubisky’s performance on Sunday or at least be curious. I mean, let’s face it... He hasn’t exactly been great in prime time spotlights. Whether that was in Week 1, 2, 11 or 14.With that in mind, it’s worth noting that Trubisky has been playing consistently better over the past three games, even if it’s been in more of a game manager role. Here’s how I feel about him. If he can limit turnovers, throw for 220-250 yards-per-game and continue to have good success on third-down, they will be in very good shape. Not only will this give the defense some margin for error, but it will keep the offense’s timely scoring intact. In a lot of ways, I truly believe the Bears have maxed out their potential in Year One of Matt Nagy’s offense Cheap Stephen Denmark Jersey , but even so, they have a knack for scoring when they need it the most. If this offense can score 22-25 points-per-game, it’s going to be hard to beat them. A lot of that will call for Trubisky to play at his current level and I think that’s more than possible. It’s worth keeping in mind that the Bears have more than 15 players on their current roster that have been in the playoffs before.A few of those include Super Bowl winners like Danny Trevathan, Prince Amukamara and Trey Burton. Other key players like Akiem Hicks and Taylor Gabriel have either had playoff or Super Bowl experience as well. On top of that, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has coached in a Super Bowl, and Nagy has coached in multiple playoff games, including last year.Like Nagy talked about on Monday, playoff experience is important, but they have enough players and leaders on this team that have been there, that they can speak on it and help the players who haven’t.Make no mistake, the Eagles are an experienced team, but the Bears are the more talented team and more importantly, the home team. I would be somewhat surprised, but we’ll see. Keep in mind, the reason that he and Kevin White got their chances in Week 17 was due to injury. Allen Robinson II sat out the game Youth Dan Hampton Jerseys , and both Anthony Miller and Gabriel left during the game with injuries. Wims will have a role on this team moving forward into 2019, and I still think he can provide something as a mid-level receiver, but at least in regards to this year, Josh Bellamy is more likely to see a bigger role that Wims.In my weekly game pick for Windy City Gridiron, I took the Bears in a 24-20 game. Some may look at this score and wonder why I am projecting it to be close and here’s why. The Eagles are an experienced team and are somewhat hot. Obviously the Bears are too, as evidenced by their (9-1) mark over their last 10 games. Even so, I think that there will be some “growing pains” in this game for a young Bears team. I also think that it may take the Bears a bit of time to get things going. Whether that’s a quick score by the Eagles or not, I think they may face some adversity early.I do think the Bears will gain control of the game around half time, get up to a decent lead and then the Eagles will score late to make it look closer than it really was. But long story short, I believe the Bears win on Sunday.

Chargers rookie safety Nasir Adderley isn’t accustomed to facing the highest level of competition Corey Liuget Jerseys 2019 , having played his college football at Delaware, but he has high hopes for how he’ll adjust to the NFL.One starting job, thinks he and fellow safety Derwin James can accomplish great things together. Adderley told Fernando Ramirez of NBC San Diego that he and James could be the best safety duo in the NFL.Chargers defensive backs coach Ron Milus, however White Joe Barksdale Jerseys , was a bit hesitant to go that far.“Let’s let these guys grow up,” Milus said, via ESPN. “I’m not even going to go there. But I like the potential of these two, young players that hopefully can grow together, and be a nice little tandem for the future.”James had a very good rookie season and may well be one of the top safeties in the NFL for years to come. Adderley has a long way to go before he deserves that kind of recognition. But he’s not lacking for confidence. OAKLAND Joe Barksdale Jerseys 2019 , Calif. (AP) — Philip Rivers threw two touchdown passes, Melvin Gordon gained 165 yards and the Los Angeles Chargers won their sixth straight game, 20-6 over the struggling Oakland Raiders on Sunday.Rivers bounced back from a first quarter with no completions to throw an 11-yard TD pass to Keenan Allen in the second quarter to give the Chargers (7-2) the lead for good and a 66-yarder to Gordon on the opening drive of the second half.Los Angeles coasted from there against the Raiders (1-8), who have lost five straight games by at least 14 points under coach Jon Gruden and have been outscored 75-9 in the past nine quarters in what has quickly become a lost season.Oakland started quickly by controlling the ball for 23 of 29 plays in the first quarter and outgaining the Chargers by 129 yards. But Los Angeles allowed little after Melvin Ingram forced a fumble on a sack of Derek Carr early in the second quarter with the Raiders looking to add to a 3-0 lead.Rivers found his stride after that, leading the Chargers to a field goal and then engineering a 91-yard drive at the end of the half that was capped by the throw to Allen in the front corner of the end zone.Gordon White Kyle Emanuel Jerseys , who had 93 yards rushing and 72 yards receiving, then put the game away when he caught a short pass from Rivers, broke a tackle by Gareon Conley, juked Reggie Nelson and raced in for the long score.LOPSIDED STARTThe Raiders missed opportunities to take a bigger lead while outgaining the Chargers 135-6 in the first quarter. Dwayne Harris was stopped by Derwin James on a shovel pass on fourth-and-goal from the 1 to deny the best chance for Oakland. Los Angeles then scored 10 points in the second quarter with a strip sack by Ingram denying Oakland a shot at a field goal and setting up one for the Chargers. Rivers hit Allen for the TD with 24 seconds left in the half.FAKING ITRaiders rookie punter Johnny Townsend pulled off a fake punt on the opening drive for a 42-yard run. That was longer than his average punt of 41.9 yards coming into the game. Townsend then added his longest kick of the season with a 57-yarder in the second quarter. Townsend is the third player since the 1970 merger with a run of at least 40 yards and a punt of at least 50 in the same game, joining Cleveland’s Reggie Hodges Kyle Emanuel Jerseys 2019 , who did it for Cleveland in 2010, and Jeff Hayes for Washington in 1983.SMOKY GAMEThe air quality for the game was at an unhealthy level because of wildfires in Butte County, about 150 miles to the north. The Air Quality Index was at 159 at kickoff, which is in the unhealthy zone, and smoke could be smelled throughout the stadium. The NFL had monitored the situation but the AQI never got near 200 White Drew Kaser Jerseys , the level where the game would have needed to be moved.INJURIESChargers LB Denzel Perryman left the game with a knee injury on the opening drive. … Raiders WR Martavis Bryant (knee) left the game in the third quarter.UP NEXTColts: Host the Broncos on Sunday.Raiders: Visit the Cardinals on Sunday.

Atlanta had an open roster spot after placing starting safety Keanu Neal on injured reserve. On one hand, it’s easy to be happy for Means. The soon-to-be 28-year-old pass rusher was buried on depth chart in Philadelphia. He definitely deserves to be on a 53-man roster. On the other hand, it’s sad to know that Means won’t be coming back. There was some thought he might return to the Eagles after Week 1 since Black Tommy McDonald Jerseys , as a vested veteran, his contract would no longer be guaranteed for the full season. But he’s joining Atlanta instead. In addition to providing the Eagles with quality defensive end depth, Means was an important practice player for Philadelphia. He would study the film of upcoming opponent pass rushers and simulate their moves to help prepare the Eagles’ offensive linemen for game day. Means brought a lot of effort and intensity to the table. Also he just seemed to be a likeable guy in the locker room. Could Zeitler be a target for the Jaguars when teams start shuffling their rosters? Or will they save their cap room for someone else? Let us know in the comments below! Matt makes a strong argument to sit him, and facing a top 10 Steelers run defense will be a task. That said, against the Jaguars and Broncos respectively, Pittsburgh yielded 95 and 110 yards to Leonard Fournette and Phillip Lindsay. In last week’s loss the Broncos averaged 5.4 yards per rush.Even in a backup role Ekeler gets looks in the passing game (32 receptions on 39 targets) which make him a tasty start in light of Melvin Gordon’s injury (Gordon has 44 receptions on 60 targets).Sunday night. Ben versus Rivers. I see points. Many points. Pittsburgh looks to rebound for lethargic play the past two weeks, but Ilike Austin to deliver the points. PPR darling.Projection: 65 yards rushing, 7 recpetions for 45 yards and 2 touchdowns -STARTQB Russell Wilson, Seahawks He has been on a hot streak as of late and finally showing fantasy potential scoring at least 19 fantasy points six of his last seven. Matchup against the 49ers is juicy! Should be another solid day at the fantasy office for Wilson.Projection: 265 yards passing with 3 touchdowns 45 yards rushing QB Lamar Jackson, RavensYou are not starting Jackson because of his arm. He should really be a running back but he is a QB. He has a combined 40 fantasy points in the last two games. Atlanta’s defense is not good. He should be a good steaming option. Projection: 235 total yards with 1 passing touchdown and 1 rushing touchdownQB Jameis Winston, BucsThe Carolina Panthers have given up 12 touchdowns and 24 points on average to opposing QBs since week 9. He should have a solid game this week!!Projection: 345 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions RB Spencer Ware, Chiefs With the shocking news that Kareem Hunt has been released due to a domestic violence incident, Spencer Ware has been propelled into the RB 10 category. He should be used as the workhorse in this offense, and should produce high fantasy points this week in a prime match up against a league worst Raiders rush defense. Projection: 115 total yards with 5 receptions and 1 touchdownRB Josh Adams, Eagles Josh Adams reminds me of the Aaron Jones situation a couple weeks prior. He is a supreme talent that wasn’t getting enough touches until the coach finally realized that he was a stud. Josh Adams has proven to be the most efficient running back on the team Jawaan Taylor Jersey Color Rush , and recent reports say they are going to give him a more prominent role. I believe he breaks out this game. Projection: 19 carries for 124 yards and 1 touchdownRB LeSean McCoy, Bills The Miami Dolphins have a bottom five rushing defense, With a new focus on the running game with Josh Allen returning to the offense, I wouldn’t be surprise of LeSean McCoy has a pretty great game. Projection: 95 total yards with 3 receptions and 1 touchdownWR Christian Kirk, Cardinals I like Kirk a lot this week. He is going up against the Green Bay Packers who have allowed 10 different receivers to go over 50 yards receiving. The Cardinals will probably be down early and often meaning a lot of garbage time. I believe he will find the end zone. Projection: 5 receptions for 65 yards and 1 touchdownWR Josh Reynolds, RamsHe has been sneaky good every since Kupp went down. Detroit’s defense has given up eight receiving touchdowns in the last five games and he should be in the running to find the end zone.Projection: 4 receptions for 69 yards and 1 touchdownWR Chris Godwin, Bucs I believe he will benefit the most with DeSean Jackson being ruled out. With the game that I expect to be fairly high scoring, I suspect targets to be flowing all around. He’s a pretty good streaming option this week. Projection: 5 receptions for 65 yards and 1 touchdownTE Eric Ebron, Colts This is pretty self-explanatory. Jack Doyle out for the season and Eric Ebron has 12 touchdowns on this year. That’s a lot. To put that into perspective during his four year tenure in Detroit, he had less than his current touchdown total for this year. If you have him you start him. Projection: 5 receptions for 57 yards and 1 touchdownTE Cameron Brate, Bucs OJ Howard is done for the year meaning Cameron Brate is a strong fantasy option in a position that is not really deep. As I mentioned before,I suspect this game to be fairly high scoring and Winston seems to target Brate a lot. I am confident he will find the end zone this weekend.Projection: 5 recpetions for 46 yards and 1 touchdownK Josh Lambo, Jaguars He posted a dud last week but in the last four games he has produce double digit fantasy points. He was a standout against the Colts the last time he faced them. Will Kessler move the ball to get him in range? I think so. Start Josh Lambo. Projection: 2 for 2 on field goals and 2 for 2 on extra pointsLos Angeles Rams Defense The Detroit Lions have been giving up 12 fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. The Rams are coming off their best performance of the fantasy season against a top notch offense of the Chiefs and I suspect a lot of sacks and a lot of turnover in this gameProjection: 10 points allowed with 7 sacks and 3 turnovers-SITQB Matthew Stafford, LionsSo no Tate Mens Jawaan Taylor Jersey , no Jones, and going up against the Rams. To add more assurance to sitting him, he scored fewer than 18 fantasy points in the last 7 games. Sit him as this offense is horrible. Projection: 245 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions QB Josh Allen, Bills He is not an accurate passer. Do not chase the points, I know you may be tempted as Allen scored a lot of fantasy points (26) against the Jaguars, but I believe that was an anomaly. Allen’s legs made him a diamond. Let me remind you his completion percentage was 42.1%. The Miami Dolphins have averaged about 13 points to opposing quarterbacks when they play at home. Projection: 173 yards passing with 1 touchdown and 1 interception with 62 yards rushingQB Eli Manning, Giants Eli is facing the Bears. Opposing quarterbacks average just about 15 fantasy points per game, ranking the seconded fewest in the league. The only saving grace for Eli is Saquon Barkley, who offers a nice outlet, but on the whole Eli should have a very bad game. Projection: 250 yads passing with 2 touchdowns and 1 interceptionRB Austin Ekeler, Chargers I don’t understand the commotion or the excitement of Austin Ekeler this week. Just because Melvin Gordon is out doesn’t mean he will get the same numbers. Yes, he is the starting running back, however we have seen this before against Tennessee when he was the starting back in the game and failed to produce. You can’t automatically assume Austin’s going to replace Gordon. I think what made him so dominate was the fact he was playing behind Gordon and he was a change of pace type running back that kept defenses guessing. With the starting role I don’t think defenses are going to be surprised and I think he will be stuffed often against the Steelers. Projection: 16 total touches for 65 yards and 4 receptionsRB LeGarrette Blount, LionsAnother example of not chasing the points Black Jawaan Taylor Jersey , Game script I suspect to be a big problem for LaGarrette this game and I don’t envision him touching the field a lot. Stafford’s going to have to throw therefore no touchdown chances. Projection: 11 carries for 45 yards RB Adrian Peterson, RedskinsHe has failed to score 9 fantasy points in three of the last four games, and the offensive line is in shambles. With gun slinger Colt McCoy at quarterback, I don’t see much work for AP. I’m guessing another dud performance. If the rumors about the Redskins looking at Kareem Hunt are true, the speculation to bring on that baggage to fill a gap speaks volumes.Projection: 14 carriers for 52 yards WR Demaryius Thomas, Texans He did score twice last week, but keep in mind he only had five targets and he is only averaging 2.7 targets per game during his tenure as a Texan. While Cleveland’s defense is giving up yards, they are also taking the ball a way. Tread lightly on him, but if you are desperate and willing to risk the position he may be a WR3 flyer.Matt’s Projection: 3 receptions for 45 yards Brian’s Projection: 5 receptions for 52 yardsWR John Brown, Ravens A receiver is only as good as his quarterback, Lamar Jackson only completed 27 passes over the last two games, therefore rendering John Brown useless. I recommend sitting all Ravens wide receivers until proven otherwise. Projection: 4 receptions for 45 yardsWR Golden Tate, Eagles Over the course of the last two games Tate been targeted 16 times. However, he’s only produced a combined 16 points from those targets. He has not been very productive in this offense Jawaan Taylor Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys , with recent media reports actually speaking to his challenges adjust to being an Eagle.Projection: 6 receptions for 35 yardsTE Vance McDonald, Steelers The Chargers have only allowed four touchdowns to opposing tight-ends this year, and have been giving up roughly 42 yards per game to the position. He is also dealing with a hip injury and may not be 100%. If you are desperate for a Steelers tight-end you might want to go Jesse James.Projection: 5 receptions for 34 yardsTE Austin Hooper, Falcons Hooper has shown fantasy potential, but has only tallied 31 and 27 yards in the last two games. This offense seems to be really struggling and they’re going up against one of the top-tier defense is in Baltimore. His double digit performance against the Cleveland Browns three weeks ago is a distant memory. The defensive matchup does not favor him finding that form.Matt’s Projection: 4 receptions for 41 yardsK Chris Boswell, Steelers The Steelers score touchdowns. He averages close to six points per game. If Ben executes last week he doesn’t touch double digits. The Chargers defense is averaging just a shade under 20 PPG, and you might be tempted to ride the Steelers recent lack of productivity. Do so at your own risk.Projection: 1 for 1 on field goals and 4 for 4 on extra points Minnesota Vikings Defense The new England Patriots have only allowed 10 sacks all season, and are giving up an awfully low 0.8 giveaways a game. Tom Brady throws the ball quickly and he rarely turns the ball over. Home field advantage is on the table as the season closes out, and Brady should be a top form. The Vikings defense has underperformed this year, and this looks like a bad matchup for them.Projection: 28 points allowed with 1 sack

LAKE FOREST Youth Joel Iyiegbuniwe Jerseys , Ill. (AP) — with the fact that there was no game to prepare for this week when he woke up Monday morning.“Pretty crazy,” he said.Safety Adrian Amos figured the Bears would be planning for their next opponent, not cleaning out their lockers.“Things happen, you know, time to take it in, put it behind you and start working for next year,” he said.Chicago’s season ended in the cruelest possible way, with embattled kicker Cody Parkey’s potential winning field goal hitting the left upright and crossbar in the closing seconds of a 16-15 wild-card loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.Instead of preparing for a trip to Los Angeles to face the Rams, the Bears turned their attention toward building on what they accomplished this season. And they accomplished quite a bit.The Monsters of the Midway went 12-4 to win the NFC North in their first season under coach Matt Nagy after four straight last-place finishes and made the playoffs for the first time in eight years. They finished with their best record since the 2006 team went 13-3 and reached the Super Bowl. They saw progress from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in his second NFL season. They dominated on defense, with Khalil Mack leading the way after a blockbuster trade from Oakland just before the season. They also made Sundays fun again in Chicago, with their coach setting the tone http://www.thebearslockerroom.com/authentic-roquan-smith-jersey , and re-energized a franchise frustrated by years of losing.“I think having such great chemistry makes today easier,” guard Kyle Long said. “Today is tough regardless, but having guys you can lean on — I’ll be going to dinner with some of these guys this week. We have real friends in this locker room, it’s not just teammates. That’s important.”The Bears have some issues to address, starting with Parkey’s future.Parkey made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with Philadelphia in 2014. He was solid for Miami in 2017. But after signing a four-year contract last March, his first season in Chicago didn’t go the way he envisioned.Parkey was 23 of 30 on field goals in the regular season and 3 of 4 in the wild-card game. He made 42 of 45 extra points. But he hit uprights on six of his misses.Parkey nailed them four times while missing two field goals and two extra points in a victory over Detroit at Soldier Field. He also hit one while missing a PAT in the regular-season finale at Minnesota. On Sunday, Parkey’s 43-yard attempt in the closing seconds hit halfway up the upright and ricocheted off the crossbar before harmlessly falling to the ground. The NFL changed the miss Monday to a block for Philadelphia’s Treyvon Hester, who touched the ball. That’s little consolation for the Bears.“To make a joke of it, hitting the upright, it takes some accuracy,” cornerback Prince Amukamara said. “He’s been hitting the upright. We know he wants to make it.”Amukamara insisted there was plenty of blame to go around for the loss Womens Eddie Goldman Jersey , such as having 10 players on the field when Dallas Goedert caught a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter.All-Pro safety Eddie Jackson (right ankle) was active but did not play. Tight end Trey Burton was inactive against his former team after being added late to the team’s injury report because of a groin problem. He said he felt some tightness Friday. He didn’t think much of it until Saturday, when his groin was “completely locked.”“I let my team down. I hate it,” he said.Burton has acknowledged his battles with anxiety. But he insisted he was in a “really good spot mentally going into this game.”The Bears could also be in the market for a defensive coordinator if Vic Fangio gets a head coaching job.In four seasons, he has helped transform a defense that ranked among the worst in franchise history. Chicago led the NFL in rushing defense, takeaways (36) and interceptions (27) while tying for third in sacks (50). And the 60-year-old Fangio is in the running for the opening in Denver.Amos could also be on the move, with an expiring contract. So does cornerback Bryce Callahan, who broke his left foot against the Rams on Dec. 9 and missed the rest of the season.Long was looking forward to an offseason with “no knives.” The three-time Pro Bowl lineman missed eight games this season because of a foot injury before returning at Minnesota. He has also had shoulder, elbow, neck and ankle surgeries in recent years.“I get to maybe take a vacation, which would be sweet,” Long said. “That would be really cool.” The Bears have brought back special teams stand out DeAndre Houston-Carson." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteWindy City GridironWindy City Gridiron - Being who you thought we were since 2005!Log In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsBearsOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Latest NewsThe Bears DenNotesXs and OsSuperfansFiled under:NFL Free AgencyLatest NewsChicago Bears Free Agency 2019Bears re-sign DeAndre Houston-CarsonNew Marcus Cooper Jersey ,16commentsThe Bears have brought back special teams stand out DeAndre Houston-Carson.CDTShareTweetShareShareBears re-sign DeAndre Houston-CarsonCary Edmondson-USA TODAY SportsAfter electing to not tender an offer to exclusive rights free agent DeAndre Houston-Carson a few weeks ago, the Chicago Bears have decided to bring him back today on what is expected to be a more team friendly contract. Houston-Carson will add some safety depth to the defense, but he’s made his money in the NFL on special teams. Last year he played the third most third-phase snaps on the team at 261 (61.3%), while making a team tying six tackles and recovering a fumble in that capacity. In 2017, he led the Bears’ special teams unit with 10 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. He’s played sparingly on defense with the Bears, and his career high in playing time came a year ago at just 46 snaps, but with a new defensive coordinator in place perhaps he’ll carve out a niche with the D. I don’t think DHC being brought back will prevent the Bears from addressing safety in the upcoming draft, but he will provide some insurance at the position this offseason.

Week 15 NFL Team of the Week - Gordon McGuinnessOkung wasn’t perfect in pass protection White Derek Watt Jerseys , allowing two hits and a hurry from 50 pass-blocking snaps in the win over the Chiefs. He more than made up for it with some dominant work as a run blocker though and produced a 91.5 run-blocking grade in the game.big-time throw by Philip Rivers and some impressive footwork by Travis Benjamin made this play happen. First, Benjamin creates some extra room off the line, then Rivers finds him, putting the ball where only his receiver could grab it.Los Angeles Chargers need to avoid the comedown after emotional win - Ernie PadaonWe have a chance at the top seed in the AFC. In order to keep that chance Derek Watt Jerseys 2019 , then we need to keep pushing to get the wins. We need to keep rolling and let the W’s fly. We should beat the Baltimore Ravens. They are desperate for wins to stay in the playoff race and we need to keep flexing on the rest of the league.Chargers win over Chiefs akin to storybook finish - Dennis J. HassellAt the climax of this story, the elusive Scarlet (Patrick ) Pimpernel was finally captured by鈥oey Bosa? Melvin Ingram? Nope. It was young gun Isaac Rochell forcing the Chiefs to punt from their end zone. The offense promptly took a 10-yard penalty before the final drive found another gear.Chargers' Melvin Gordon eyes return vs. Ravens after two weeks out - Eric Williams"I don't want to get to the playoffs and be rusty," Gordon said. "I know Baltimore has a real good defense. It would have [been] good to hop back and knock some rust off against the Chiefs, but it's also a challenge to come knock some rust off against one of the best defenses in the league.Social Media Information:BFTB Facebook Page: Click here to like our pageBFTB Twitter: Follow @BFTB_ChargersThe Lightning Round Twitter: Follow @Lightning_RoundThe Lightning Round Facebook: Click here to like our pageBFTB Manager: Richard Wade: Follow @RichardWade You can’t keep them all..."Earlier today White Jatavis Brown Jerseys , Tom Pelissero pf NFL Media reported that DT Darius Philon agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, leaving the Chargers with just three defensive tackles on the roster. The longest-tenured of the bunch, Brandon Mebane Jatavis Brown Jerseys 2019 , was just signed back to a two-year deal although he is set to turn 35 this season.
Week 4 Edition Week 3 of the 2018 NFL regular season

Now it’s time to see where all 32 teams rank. For reference purposes Black Brian Westbrook Jerseys , here is a link to last week’s NFL Power Rankings.BLG’S WEEK 4 NFL POWER RANKINGS1 - Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 1) - Pat Mahomes is the truth. Andy Reid’s team is averaging 39.3 points per game so far. Not going to be easy to defend against this formidable mix of talent and coaching. 2 - Los Angeles Rams (LW: 2) - The Rams have rolled through their first three opponents. They stand alone at the top of the NFC at 3-0. 3 - Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 7) - Forget the ugliness of the win, Carson Wentz is back and that’s great news for the outlook of the reigning Super Bowl champions. Philadelphia’s defensive success at home is also going to make the team tough to beat for at least eight games.4 - Miami Dolphins (LW: 19) - Well, I don’t think the Dolphins have beaten anyone really great, but here they are at 3-0 and on top of the AFC East. 5 - New Orleans Saints (LW: 10) - This defense isn’t good but the Saints can still score a lot of points at will.6 - Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 5) - The Jags only lost by three points to a division rival so they’re not due for a big drop. But it’s not the best when your starting quarterback gets outplayed by a guy who doesn’t have feeling in his fingers and only played because the starter got hurt. 7 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 6) - Ryan Fitzpatrick came back to earth this week by throwing three interceptions. He also became the first player in NFL history to throw for 400+ yards in three consecutive games. The Bucs lost but their late comeback attempt showed they’re still dangerous. 8 - Atlanta Falcons (LW: 9) - The Falcons lost but they came close to winning. They’ve bounced back since a poor Week 1 offensive performance in Philly. Unfortunately for Atlanta, they’re getting hit hard with key injuries. 9 - Carolina Panthers (LW: 12) - Quality win for the Panthers to beat a solid Cincy team.10 - Green Bay Packers (LW: 3) - Aaron Rodgers’ injury limitations were on display against Washington. Green Bay is vulnerable when he’s not able to carry the team. 11 - Washington Redskins (LW: 23) - Wrote this about Washington prior to their win on Sunday: “I think it’d be very Washington of Washington to win this game after somewhat inexplicably losing at home to the Colts but I’m not going to just count on that.” Well, I should have counted on it. High variance team early on this season. Hard to rank.12 - New England Patriots (LW: 8) - It’s probably too early to say for sure that the Eagles ended the Patriots dynasty, but yes, that’s exactly what’s happening here. 13 - Chicago Bears (LW: 15) - I go back to what I said last week: I’m buying Chicago’s defense but I’m selling Mitchell Trubisky. He hasn’t been good. 14 - Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 18) - Finding themselves in a must-win spot, the Steelers got the job done against a hot Tampa team. Pittsburgh is still last in the AFC North for now. 15 - Minnesota Vikings (LW: 4) - The Vikings entered Sunday’s game as 17-point home favorites and managed to lose to Buffalo by a final score of 27 to 6. What an embarrassment. You Vike That? 16 - Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 11) - Andy Dalton threw four interceptions on Sunday. Not gonna win when that happens. 17 - Baltimore Ravens (LW: 17) - I have nothing interesting to say about the Ravens. They seem boringly solid. 18 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 13) - If it’s not Bill O’Brien, it could be Anthony Lynn who ends up being the first head coach fired this season. 19 - Denver Broncos (LW: 15) - The Broncos followed up two close wins with a decisive road loss. Case Keenum didn’t look good, which is shocking. (It’s not shocking.)20 - Tennessee Titans (LW: 24) - I don’t think the Titans are actually good but I do think they’re not terrible. They’re 2-1 and their one loss was by one possession to an undefeated Miami team. With that said, the aesthetics haven’t been pleasing and there are still some issues here. 21 - Cleveland Browns (LW: 25) - It was a small sample, sure, but No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield looks legit. I think the Browns will win a couple more games this season.22 - Seattle Seahawks (LW: 26) - Turns out that the Seahawks are still tough to beat at home. Also Earl Thomas is still really good. 23 - Indianapolis Colts (LW: 22) - Andrew Luck’s lack of arm strength seems to be a real issue. The 29-year-old is averaging a mere 5.34 yards per attempt. The Colts had to bring in Jacoby Brissett just to attempt a Hail Mary in Philly. 24 - San Francisco 49ers (LW: 14) - The Niners are 1-2 and now Jimmy Garoppolo is done for the season. That’s tough. 25 - Detroit Lions (LW: 29) - Maybe Bill Belichick Brian Westbrook Jerseys 2019 , not Matt Patricia, was the issue with the Patriots. 26 - Buffalo Bills (LW: 32) - CIRCLE THE WAGONS! The Bills are on the board after randomly destroying Minnesota. Josh Allen is out here hurdling linebackers. 27 - New York Jets (LW: 20) - Sam Darnold has shown some potential but he’s also shown that he’s only 21 years old and has a lot of growing pains to work through. 28 - Dallas Cowboys (LW: 21) - Dak Prescott isn’t good. 29 - New York Giants (LW: 30) - The Giants aren’t totally lifeless, but I’m not going to give them a ton of credit for beating a bad Texans team. 30 - Houston Texans (LW: 27) - 2018 Deshaun Watson has hardly looked like 2017 Deshaun Watson. In his defense, his offensive line hasn’t been great. That’s not a surprise considering the Texans only have one starter returning from last year. No continuity there. 31 - Oakland Raiders (LW: 28) - The Raiders really gave Jon Gruden a 10-year, $100 million contract. Lol. 32 - Arizona Cardinals (LW: 31) - The Cardinals are benching Sam Bradford after just three starts into the dumb contract they gave to him. Josh Rosen time. I’d say that Round 3 was boring without any Eagles picks, but the evening was still way more fun than last year when they didn’t pick at all on Day 2. Howie was sure to keep both of Philly’s picks on Saturday, and are set to get back on the clock at No. 138 (Round 4) and 163 (Round 5).[UPDATE: 11:07 PM ET] The New Giants picked Oshane Ximines, DE from Old Dominion at No. 95. Not a super exciting pick, but one that should spare Dave Gettleman being the butt of a few dozen more jokes for his incredibly bad draft choices.[UPDATE: 10:56 PM ET] The Cowboys took their own Penn State alumnus at No. 90 with center Connor McGovern. And then the Vikings were on the board, and one again made a trade. That means they’ve traded picks No. 81 (Lions), 88 (Seahawks), 92 (Jets) and 93 (Ravens). So Wilbert Montgomery Jerseys 2019 , they’ve added picks No. 102, 159, 191, 193, 204, and 217 and will be extra busy now on Saturday.[UPDATE: 10:50 PM ET] The Seahawks traded up to the No. 88 pick to take linebacker Cody Barton, sending their No. 92 and 159 picks to the Vikings.[UPDATE: 10:17 PM ET] Washington added another Buckeye at No. 78, picking wide receiver Terry McLaurin. His familiarity with Dwayne Haskins should help them both transition to the NFL a bit easier, but we’re still talking about Jay Gruden, so who knows...[UPDATE: 9:46 PM ET] Ok, so a lot has happened since the last Eagles pick: The Cowboys made their first pick of this year’s draft (Trysten Hill, DT, UCF), the Dolphins traded the Cardinals for Josh Rosen Black Tommy McDonald Jerseys , and D.K. Metcalfe came off the board with the final pick of Round 2 and is heading to Seattle.[UPDATE: 9:00 PM ET] Brent Celek led the crowd in an E-A-G-L-E-S chant and announced that Philly added ANOTHER skill player, picking JJ Arcega-Whiteside, wide receiver out of Stanford. Oooohhhh I love Howie Roseman.[UPDATE: 8:45 PM ET] EAGLES ARE FINALLY ON THE CLOCK! (About time) Mike Quick made the pick for Philly and they landed running back Miles Sanders out of Penn State. This was a really, really good pick for the team who still doesn’t know whether Darren Sproles will return. Sanders had a really good combine and doesn’t have a ton of miles on his legs having played behind Saquan Barkley for a few seasons.Although, I asked him his thoughts about Wawa at the Combine and he said, being from Pittsburgh, he was a Sheetz guy... [UPDATE: 8:20 PM ET] We are now almost 1.5 hours into Round 2 and I am ALL the way over these NFL legends making picks, and also over them holding onto the picks for minutes after they are in. There are a lot of picks left, so let’s get this show on the road. Puh-lease.[UPDATE: 8:15 PM ET] The Patriots traded up for the Rams’ No. 45 pick to take Joejuan Williams, CB out of Vanderbilt, giving up the No. 56 and 101 picks in the move. And right after that, the Browns traded for the No. 46 pick from the Colts — giving up No. 49 and 144 — to get Greedy Williams...another cornerback off the board.[UPDATE: 7:55 PM ET] Eagles look good having moved up to take Andre Dillard, the first round was DL heavy, but there’s been a run on offensive tackles/guards through the first 10 picks of Round 2. There’s also already been three trades Brian Dawkins Jerseys Stitched , so Friday night is at least staying interesting. (Although, I could do without all the legends goading the crowd with every pick, but whatever.)[UPDATE: 7:23 PM ET] The Oakland Raiders traded the No. 35 pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars who went with Jawaan Taylor, offensive tackle out of Florida.[UPDATE: 7:19 PM ET] Round 2 starts off with a pair of CBs coming off the board. The Cardinals — who have yet to trade Josh Rosen to the Dolphins as of now — took Byron Murphy, and the Colts at No. 34 took Rock Ya-Sin. Indianapolis reportedly had a lot of trade offers, but didn’t budge and got their guy.[UPDATE: 6:58 PM ET] Hey Team! Alexis, here, and I am ready for Day 2! We’ll get to see Mike Quick and Brent Celek announce the Eagles picks, and the Giants and probably Cowboys make some (more) bad decisions. Let’s goooooo![UPDATE: 6:25 PM ET] Thread’s up! BLG here. The amazing Alexis Chassen will once again be keeping this post fresh with updates above this one you’re currently reading.

JACKSONVILLE Marcell Dareus Jerseys 2019 , Fla. (AP) — their running backs room by selecting Temple’s Ryquell Armstead in the fifth round of the NFL draft. The Jaguars chose the 5-foot-11, 215-pound Armstead with the second pick in the round Saturday, No. 140 overall.Armstead ran for 2,812 yards and 34 touchdowns in four years with the Owls. He had 1,098 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns in 10 games as a senior in 2018. He covered the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the NFL Combine, fairly quick for bigger back.He joins a completely retooled position group in Jacksonville, which fired running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and parted ways with T.J. Yeldon, Carlos Hyde and Corey Grant after last season. The Jaguars are hoping the changes help starter Leonard Fournette become a better pro. They hired 64-year-old Terry Robiskie, who, like Fournette Black D.J. Hayden Jerseys , was born and raised in New Orleans and attended LSU, as running backs coach. They also signed veteran Alfred Blue (another LSU alum) to be Fournette’s backup and added veteran Benny Cunningham. No one would be surprised to see Armstead replace Fournette in the starting lineup one day, either.Fournette was arrested earlier this month for driving with a suspended license, his latest off-the-field issue. The fourth overall pick in the 2017 draft was injured, suspended and on the bench in crunch time last season. He also was fined, criticized and admittedly not in ideal shape late in the year. Most telling, the Jaguars voided the remaining guarantees in Fournette’s four-year rookie contract worth $27.1 million. The team made the move following Fournette’s weeklong suspension in late November for instigating a fight against Buffalo.Fournette has since challenged the decision, which could cost him up to $7.1 million.Fournette also drew the ire of personnel chief Tom Coughlin when he and Yeldon spent most of the season finale — a 20-3 loss at Houston — on the bench and disengaged from coaches and teammates.Coughlin ripped both players for being “disrespectful” and “selfish.”Fournette had a lengthy meeting with Coughlin and coach Doug Marrone after the season in hopes of clearing the air and staring anew.Dear John - From The Village Idiot Most, if not all of you, know of John Oehser D.J. Hayden Jerseys 2019 , team writer over at Jaguars-dot-com.For the rare few, John pens (or keyboards) a daily column called “O-Zone” where he answers fans questions. For those old enough to know, it is the sequel to “Ask Vic”, a Q&A column managed by the previous team writer Vic Ketchman.John’s blend of wit, sarcasm, and love of pop culture and music makes it an oasis of education and entertainment. Far be it from me to leverage the work of others for the sake of my own attempts at amusement, and in that light I take a first swing at responding to John responding to readers.Dear John,It truly is unfortunate the Jaguars organization overlooked the resume of Ron from Orlando. I can only imagine how much further this team could have progressed with Ron making player decisions. But yes, it is ironic that Ron, while applauding the team Tom Black Donte Moncrief Jerseys , Dave, and Doug assembled notes that one player has the capability to negate all of the talent on this roster. I did not realize the power Blake yielded.Yet, John, you did fail to recognize and answer the question of Blake alternatives. Why did you ignore Ron’s suggestions? Were you simply cherry picking the low hanging fruit? I would love to know your thoughts on the Tyrod Taylor option, a player who last season took the Buffalo Bills to their first playoff game in 18 years. Taylor, who the Baltimore Ravens wrongly let go, took only three years to make the Bills a first round playoff contender. But even Buffalo was not smart enough to see his talent. You know who did? The factory of NFL aptitude that is the Cleveland Browns. They saw so much in Taylor that they drafted Baker Mayfield to learn under him for the next three to four years. Why can the Jaguars not be the Cleveland Browns?Or the New York Jets, another team that took a backup quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater, seeing his ability to nurture a rookie quarterback in Sam Darnold.Wait...the Jets are looking to shop Bridgewater? Idiots.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and three more assistants Monday night Black Lerentee McCray Jerseys , according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity and said offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, secondary coach Perry Fewell and defensive line coach Marion Hobby also were let go one day after the season finale.Wheatley’s dismissal was the least surprising. It came one day after Fournette and T.J. Yeldon were sharply criticized for being disengaged from coaches and teammates during the 20-3 loss at Houston.Coughlin ripped both players for being “disrespectful” and “selfish.” He said “their behavior was unbecoming of a professional football player.”More Jacksonville Jaguars newsJaguars LB Telvin Smith wants everyone to “stop going crazy” about his decision to retireJaguars rookie LB Quincy Williams battling to fill spot with Telvin Smith stepping away from footballJaguars LB Telvin Smith stepping away from football to focus on family, healthJaguars take chance on Murray State LB Quincy Williams with 98th overall pickJaguars continue to retool backfield, draft Temple RB Ryquell Armstead in 5th roundFournette has missed 11 games in two seasons, including two because of suspensions, and has shown little interest in being a good professional. Yeldon, a pending free agent Chris Conley Jersey , barely played down the stretch. Jacksonville also traded a fifth-round pick for Carlos Hyde, who ran for 189 yards in eight games. All four assistants had been with the team for two seasons.Wheatley’s position group was among the least production in 2018. Fournette was one of the NFL’s biggest disappointments, finishing with 439 yards rushing and five touchdowns while missing eight games.Flaherty’s line was ravaged by injuries, but he also got little out of free-agent guard Andrew Norwell. Fewell’s secondary wasn’t nearly as productive as it was in 2017 and saw veteran safety Barry Church waived late in the season. Hobby’s unit underperformed at several positions, and first-round draft pick Taven Bryan made marginal gains in his rookie year.Coach Doug Marrone also fired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in late November, meaning he now has five job openings heading into the new year.Marrone said earlier Monday that he didn’t want to make any staff changes based on emotion, adding that he would make sure “it’s for the right reasons and not just a reaction.” It seems that the national consensus for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft is they will pick right tackle Jawaan Taylor with the seventh overall pick. Well Lerentee McCray Jerseys 2019 , there is that one..."It seems that the national consensus for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft is they will pick right tackle Jawaan Taylor with the seventh overall pick. Well, there is that one purposefully out of left field pick made that won’t happen, but by and large everyone has the Jaguars picking a right tackle. The closer we get to the draft however, and the more the consensus is a right tackle the less I think that’s what the Jaguars will do with their pick.I mentioned it before to not sleep on a defensive lineman for the Jaguars in the No. 7 spot and as we get closer the more I think that’s absolutely what the pick is going to be. The team has brought in a lot of pass rushers for pre-draft visits and interestingly did absolutely nothing in free agency on the defensive line. Compare that to say tight end where a few players were signed or right tackle where they signed two guys to compete, they did absolutely nothing on the defensive line. While I think everyone agrees that the Jaguars defensive line is good and talented, I do think people are sleeping on it’s need for fresh depth/guys who will play snaps. The team moved Dante Fowler Jr. midseason and they released Malik Jackson after the season in an expected cap cutting move. While Fowler was a disappointing first round pick, he was still a contributor to the pass rush and his contribution does need to be replaced and addressed. As for as Jackson Black Barry Church Jerseys , the Jaguars did draft Taven Bryan in 2018, but his rookie season was a whole lot of nothing.People constantly point to the 2017 season as proof of what the Jaguars defense can carry them to with even just bang average quarterback play and a solid run game. What is not being translated with that in 2019 however is that Folwer and Jackson combined for 16 sacks that season. Where is that coming from now? Are you getting that from Dawuane Smoot and Taven Bryan? I don’t think so.You also have to approach the point that Yannick Ngakoue is going into the final year of his rookie season and Calais Campbell is going to be one year older. I don’t think we will see a big drop of from Campbell yet and I do think the team re-signs Ngakoue prior to the start of the 2019 season, but these are still things you have to have in your mind. This is a draft that is top heavy on the defensive line with what a lot of people consider elite talent, so if you’re right there and one falls in your lap, it’s the perfect blend of value and need. While I think someone like T.J. Hockenson would be a fine pick at No. 7, I don’t think the gap in talent between he and whatever tight ends will be there in rounds two and three are so significant of a drop off that you have to take Hockenson in the Top 10. I feel the exact same way for Jonah Williams and Jawaan Taylor. Not to mention if it wasn’t for the Jaguars picking Taylor because they need a right tackle, I struggle to see him getting drafted in the Top 15. Is he really that good at right tackle to be a Top 10 pick?On the flip side the drop off from the defensive line from pick seven to pick 38 has a huge drop off. If you want one of the elite ones Barry Church Jerseys 2019 , you have to pick them early. Yes, I know that Ngakoue was a third round pick, but mid-round great pass rushers are few and far between. Those guys, much like quarterbacks, get snapped up quickly because they’re so important. Also, and this will probably stir up a lot of debate, but I just don’t think right tackle or tight end matter all that much. If you have a good enough right tackle and a good enough tight end Black A.J. Bouye Jerseys , you never think about them. You do not need elite players at those positions to have success. Like, can you name the best right tackle in the NFL off the top of your head? Can you name the fourth best tight end off the top of your head? It’s great to have players like Travis Kelce or Rob Gronkowski, but there’s a big pile of guys who are just fine after them and truth be told that’s all you need. In a way, they’re kind of like running back. You can find running backs. You can find right tackles and tight ends littered throughout the draft. At pass rusher, you need elite players to have success.

With this being the 100th Bears season, it would seem fitting that we rank the 100 best Bears players of all time.Soon a team of volunteers for this was formed: myself, Jeff Berckes, who was as enthusiastic as me about the idea, historian Jack Silverstein, top boss Lester A. Wiltfong Jr., Optimist Prime Erik Christopher Duerrwaechter and film expert Jacob Infante. Then it came time to work up a methodology. We decided a vote would be good, but I had to turn to Jeff, our analytics man, to concoct a weighted system that would fairly balance out our personal bias and allow for a more complete list.Creating a list of the Top 100 players in Chicago Bears history is at best an imperfect science. The top of any list will feature the game’s best, players that transformed the game or defined their position, playing at peak levels for long periods of time. After that wave of transcendence, voters may go in different directions, balancing shorter careers with high peaks against long and solid careers with no discernible peaks. Post season honors, team success or lack thereof, games and years played, championships won, and statistical accumulation are just some of the factors that can weigh into an evaluation. Only one grading principle was agreed upon at the start – players should be compared to how they performed in their era against other players from their era. In other words, a more modern player may be athletically superior to a historic player but he should only be judged at his level of competition.Development of the list was an iterative process involving ten rounds of voting. A list of eligible players was collected and added to a player pool from a variety of sources. In the first round, the WCG contributors ranked the top 15 players in the history of the Chicago Bears using their own individual evaluation metrics. The votes were scored (1st place vote = 15 points, 15th place vote = 1 point) and added together to create a raw score. A weighted average was calculated by taking the total score multiplied by the number of ballots the player appeared on, divided by the number of possible ballots. This weighted score was used in situations to help “break ties” where scores were approximately equal. The top ten vote-getters from the first round were recorded in their respective ranks and cleared from the player pool. The voters repeated this process for a total of 10 rounds until a top 100 list was created. After allowing the dust to settle on the list, the group deliberated on any glaring issues including whether a player was ranked too high or too low or whether or not a snubbed player deserved inclusion. After reaching consensus, mostly minor alterations were made and the list was finalized. An important note - while it was not a written rule, there were enough contributors that considered the impact of players with fewer than 3 years of service to not be eligible for this list. That means current players like Eddie Jackson and Khalil Mack will not be on the list despite the likelihood of their inclusion in a list like this down the road.We also agreed that a players’ contributions mattered to their Bears playing career only. That means that there could be no inserting of “what ifs” for players such as Greg Olsen, Thomas Jones and Orlando Pace. Each a great player, but their contributions in Chicago were short and in the case the former two, great, while the latter was great elsewhere first but disappointing here. That also means that the coaching career of Mike Ditka was not to be weighed and George Halas’ importance as owner, coach and founder were also set aside in favor of only his playing days. This means that ours differs from the Bears’ own list Gale Sayers Jersey , which includes both Mack and Jackson and could very well have Ditka and Halas higher than we do (that’s a teaser, not a spoiler). Other than that, there will be some similarities and differences. It’s not meant to be gospel. This is meant to be, as all lists are, the writers’ rankings, but we’re damn proud of this list, a LOT of emails, a lot of good debate, a lot of consensus, a lot of dissent and plenty of stats and more went into this.We wanted this list to not just represent the six of us, but the site, the fans and most importantly, the deep and rich history of the greatest and oldest professional football franchise in the National Football League. Stay tuned for tomorrow and each week after, as we reveal the list 10 at a time. There will also be more articles surrounding the list, regarding snubs, honorable mentions, players that an individual writer thought should have been ranked higher or lower, etc. It’s going to be a fun thing to fill the gap until training camp. You can check out our countdown to number one by clicking right here. Ryan Pace has a tendency to make aggressive deals. He doesn’t always make the best decisions, but his decisions are consistently guided by an understandable principle."It all comes down to Saturday morning cartoons. Younger readers might struggle with the concept, but people of my generation will remember a time that cartoons were only really available at a special time--Saturday morning. I have specific memories of waking up to be sure that I did not miss an episode of my favorite show, and I recall vividly the overwrought frustration I felt when a family trip or event like a wedding prevented me from being able to watch Scooby Doo or Thunderbirds 2086 or whatever other magical entertaining I was captivated by that year.My children, on the other hand, do not know what it means to have to ‘wait’ for a show to be available. Oh, they understand that there are rules about how much television they get to watch, and they feel their own forms of frustration, but the opportunity to watch cartoons has gone from being a rare thing specific to particular times of the week to a surplus of options, regulated only by parental discipline.Opportunity, in other words, has lost its meaning to my children when it comes to cartoons. There are NFL fans who also fail to appreciate opportunity.Opportunity in the draftIt’s mock draft season, and while the Bears are more or less “out” of mock drafts this year http://www.thebearslockerroom.com/authentic-mike-singletary-jersey , it’s still easy to find fans of almost every team suggesting a dozen trades, where somehow a sixth-rounder, a future fourth-rounder, and a veteran backup guard are flipped and maneuvered into a pair of third-round picks that snag an all-star running back and an edge rusher who will probably be gone by Pick #40, anyway. Why do fans believe that this is what can and should happen? Because they read on a chart somewhere that it is possible, or out of 100 iterations of a draft simulator programmed to keep things exciting, they were offered a similar trade at least one time. They assume that ‘vaguely possible’ means the opportunity is always there. Over the years, I have leveled many criticisms at Ryan Pace, but the one thing that is obvious about him is that he understands the cost of opportunity.Let’s look at Ryan Pace’s most famous deal, the maneuvering to get Mitchell Trubisky. A rational fan (if that’s not an oxymoron) will admit that the verdict is still out on Trubisky. However, Ryan Pace did not “give up” three picks to draft Trubisky. Instead, he paid three picks (a third, a fourth, and a future third) to either guarantee the opportunity to make the selection or to deny others the same chance. To put it another way, if I am crossing my home state of South Dakota and I find my car running low on fuel, I might find myself stopping at a gas station on a highway (likely the only gas station around on that stretch of highway) and paying whatever number happens to be on the pump. I might pay more than I would have had I planned ahead and filled my tank where I knew there was cheaper gas, and I will almost certainly pay more than if I waited until I reached my destination and had a choice of stations in competition for my business. Any halfway competent student of economics understands that I am not just paying for the fuel itself. Instead, I am paying for the opportunity to have access to fuel when I want or need it, under the conditions I want it. This, in turn, rewards the owner of the gas station who planned ahead for how others would value that situation and so on. Back to Ryan Pace--he believed that there were only a couple of stations that sold the grade of fuel the Bears needed. He wanted to be sure he got the best available fuel. He then paid what he needed to pay to guarantee himself that opportunity. Critics will say he should have waited to see if he even needed to pay the increased price (i.e. maybe the next exit would have had fancy no-look pumps available). I have made that decision on road trips, only to find that the next exit is closed, or that the gas station I thought was there had gone out of business. On multiple occasions when needing fuel, I have also passed by gas stations, annoyed at the price on the pump, only to find as I have traveled that the price per gallon is higher at the next station instead of lower.Looked at through the lens of opportunity, the cost of trading draft picks makes sense. I generally agree with those who want to trade back and maximize the number of picks, because I think selling opportunity tends to get better results. However, it is ridiculous to think that opportunity should not have a cost.Consider the much simpler Anthony Miller trade. He wanted a receiver of Anthony Miller’s talent and potential, and he wanted him in 2018 Womens Dick Butkus Jersey , when he could grow with the new coach and the new system. The price of that player was a second-rounder, but the Bears did not have one to send at that moment, having spent theirs on James Daniels. The surcharge on get that ‘extra’ second-round selection (the extra price at the pump because they were at a solitary gas station in the middle of nowhere) was a fourth-rounder.Time and again, Pace pays the cost to get himself the opportunities he wants. Most mathematical models tell us he is going to be in the wrong over time. Consistently trading up is a way to lose out on value. However, if he finds better-than-expected results consistently in the draft (and that’s a big if, still), then he is leveraging opportunity well.Using the draft to buy opportunityKhalil Mack is a dominant football player, but is a single year of Khalil Mack worth two first round picks (with a bunch of other stuff floating around)? No. It’s not. How could it be, especially when that year is not being had on a price-controlled contract like a true first-round draft pick would be? Advanced analytics seemed to like the Raiders’ side of the equation, and despite the Bears’ 12-4 season, there seem to be plenty who are willing to criticize Pace’s aggression. This is so absurd it merits a painfully careful response.Pace didn’t buy a single year of Khalil Mack. When Pace traded for Mack, he was really buying the opportunity to sign Mack to a long-term contract and to deny others that opportunity. He then had to pay for a premium edge-rusher, and that was expensive (around $141 million dollars). However, the draft picks were not paid for the services of Khalil Mack. That’s what the contract was for. The draft picks were the price attached to the opportunity to offer that contract. This is where football fans traditionally want to have it both ways. They want their GM to get second-round picks for halfbacks who went to the Pro Bowl once as an alternate, but they also want their GMs to pay only a future seventh-rounder for moving up sixty spots to select the guard that the team needs.Do deals like this sometimes happen? Yes. And sometimes when you are lucky, you will pass up a gas station and find a cheaper price at a more convenient exit later on. It’s just not a guaranteed opportunity. When I was a little kid, I could have slept in and missed my favorite show. I could have hoped then that it would be on again in a rerun. However, I would have missed out on the enjoyment of seeing it that morning and of talking about it with my friends (i.e. Pace could have missed out on a 12-4 season with a new coach), and I also would have been gambling that it could be available again in the future (i.e. that another pass-rusher would be available for those picks in the future).Because of the way technology has advanced, there is no longer an urgency to getting up on Saturday morning for cartoons. Likewise, for fans who look back a year after a draft, it is easy to say “this is the player who should have been taken” or “the GM should have waited.” The reality is that in the moment, the opportunity to watch your favorite cartoon (or, more importantly, to fill your car’s tank) is not guaranteed. Pace seems to be trying to aggressively take opportunities. I do not always agree with his decisions, but it would be foolish for me to pretend his decisions ‘obviously wrong’ given what he cannot know about future chances to improve the team.
