On Wednesday morning, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone met with the media at the combine and fielded some questions.Obviously the big thing of interest is the quarterback position, of which Marrone actually didn’t really say a whole lot and didn’t seem to clear the smoke surrounding the position right now. While he didn’t explicitly say it and he was surprisingly not asked about it, it seemed very obvious from his answers that the Jaguars will be moving on from quarterback Blake Bortles as expected.Marrone did mention that when looking for a quarterback he would prefer to have one who is ahead of the rest of the offense and everyone is catching up to them. Meaning that he would like someone who is going to devour whatever the team draws up for a playbook quickly. He’s looking for a high football IQ type of quarterback, be it a veteran or a rookie, and their playbook would be modified/paired down based on whatever they decide to do at the position. He was also asked about what kind of veteran he would be looking for and mentioned that he’s had all kinds in the past, but did specifically mention leadership and helping a young player grow/acclimate to the league.Personally, the feeling I got was that it sounds like their plan is a veteran quarterback plus a rookie, but Marrone does a really good job of saying a whole lot of nothing. New,10commentsEDTShareTweetShareShareWhich likely undrafted free agents should the Jaguars target on defense? Sick of seeing Jawaan Taylor mocked to the Jacksonville Jaguars? Getting irritated by ESPN mocking safeties on Day 2? Fair enough.Earlier this week, I spotlighted a handful of offensive players whom the Jaguars should consider if they make it to rookie free agency. In this edition, I focus on defense. The Jaguars have found some success in harvesting the undrafted rookie pool Womens Marqise Lee Jersey , an endeavor largely piloted by Senior Vice President of Football Technology & Analytics Tony Khan. Identifying high-upside athletes who stand a good chance of competing for roster spots has been a strength over the last few years, especially when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.Just last year, cornerbacks Quenton Meeks and Tre Herndon ended up making the final roster and look to be bigger contributors heading into their sophomore campaigns, and former UDFA safety Jarrod Wilson was re-signed to a solid contract to replace Tashaun Gipson as the starting free safety in 2019. So who should the Jaguars target?Defensive tackleKenny Bigelow, West VirginiaIf you are a hardcore college football fan who follows recruiting, Bigelow’s name may sound familiar.Along with Ole Miss’ Robert Nkemdiche, Kenny Bigelow was a coveted five-star recruit and played both defensive lineman and tight end positions in high school. Bigelow played his first five seasons at USC where he redshirted his freshman year in 2013 and then missed the 2014 and 2016 seasons with serious knee injuries that caused him to ponder retirement. Mostly a rotational nose tackle who saw limited playing time with the Trojans, Bigelow earned a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and grad transferred to West Virginia. In his 12 starts in 2018, Bigelow earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors and was runner up for Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year.I mean, just look at his first snap against Tennessee this year:When studying Bigelow, I was astounded by the first step quickness and lower body explosiveness he has for a guy with two major injuries on the same knee. While his medical history would make a team like the Jaguars hesitant to burn a draft pick on him, his upside as a rookie free agent is certainly worth the risk. Bigelow put up 31 reps on the bench at his pro day and also ran a 5.09 forty yard dash for a nose tackle.Personally, I’m a huge fan of Temple DT Michael Dogbe, who I got to check out at East-West Shrine Game, but it just doesn’t seem like Dogbe will go undrafted based on my understanding. Outside of Bigelow and Dogbe Telvin Smith Jersey , Wyoming’s Youhanna Ghaifan, a talented three-technique who declared for the draft early, can be a bargain guy who may slip out of the seven rounds due to a suspension resulting from two misdemeanors stemming from an October altercation with a hotel employee. Ghaifan has draftable tape and is worth taking a flier on.Defensive endJarrell Owens, Oklahoma StateThe Jaguars certainly will be on the hunt for depth for both the strong side defensive end position behind Calais Campbell and weak side defensive end behind Yannick Ngakoue, so it’s likely they will be active in recruiting edge rushers in rookie free agency.Oklahoma State’s Jarrell Owens is a prospect that could vie for that strong side position. A two-sport athlete at Palestine High School in Texas who played running back and defensive end in addition to basketball, Owen was clocked running a 4.70 forty (some scouts I talked to had him at 4.60) and jumping a 39” vert at his pro day – at 265 pounds. Owens is durable and has never missed a game in his Oklahoma State career and shows a good blend of speed, power, and flexibility as a pass rusher when studying his tape. Other edge rushers that may be intriguing as a rookie free agents include Tennessee’s Kyle Phillips, North Carolina’s Malik Carney, Boston College’s Wyatt Ray and UCF’s Titus Davis. Phillips fits the strong side defensive end mold while Carney, Ray, and Davis could challenge for weak side edge rusher. LinebackerTy Summers, TCUSimilar to my crush on UAB wide receiver Xavier Ubosi last week, Ty Summers is the guy I have hearts written all over my notebook on defense. It’s easy to fall in love with Summers the athlete after his impressive showing at the Combine (9.69 RAS), but you really start to get enamored with the person as well when you do research into his background.Summers played as a dual-threat quarterback on offense and safety on defense at Reagan High School in Texas. Described a “weight room animal” and reportedly running the 40 yard dash in the 4.5 range as a freshman http://www.thejaguarslockerroom.com/authentic-t.j.-yeldon-jersey , Summers spent the summer of his senior year with his high school defensive coordinator to learn about linebacker reads upon learning he would be switching to inside linebacker at TCU. Summers would later finish with the second-most tackles in the Gary Patterson era. A team-first guy, Summers was asked to move to defensive end in 2018 and never complained despite it affecting his stock. Summers is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and is active in the community off the field, finishing as a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. You’re not missing anything, Evan. He’s good. It’s rare that you find a prospect who has played in all three levels on defense. Summers’ experience as a high school safety and quarterback makes him a tremendous processor in coverage as a potential WILL linebacker and his ability to blitz and rush the passer as a defensive end also makes him a great fit as a SAM linebacker for the Jaguars in addition to contributing on special teams.Hopefully a team doesn’t snatch Summers and his athletic profile on day three of the draft. Other fringe linebackers I like for depth for the Jaguars include Northern Illinois’ Sutton Smith (likely to be drafted), North Carolina’s Cole Holcomb, UTSA’s Josiah Tauaefa, and Oklahoma’s Curtis Bolton.CornerbackDuke Shelley, Kansas StateHe’s 5’9”, weighs less than 180 pounds, and doesn’t have elite timed speed. What’s not to like, right?Shelley may not check all the physical and athletic boxes that you’d like from high-upside rookie free agents, but he plays the position like a lion and showed some of the best competitive toughness that I’ve seen in scouting for this draft class. The first true freshman to start at cornerback for Bill Snyder since 2006, Shelley has 31 career pass deflection in 38 career games as a boundary corner for the Wildcats and has returned 2 of his 8 career interceptions for touchdowns. More importantly, he’s dripping with swagger. Look at the ball flip at the end as he stares at the Baylor bench. In zone, Shelley is deliberate in his decision-making to pick up his assignments and even demonstrates some nuance and baiting ability to delay his breaks. Shelley is urgent in undercutting outs and flat routes and shows great enthusiasm and courage in run support despite being undersized. Shelley projects to be a scheme transcendent nickel cornerback due to his football intelligence Womens Ronnie Harrison Jersey , ball skills, playmaking ability, and short area quickness. With D.J. Hayden’s contract structured to be a likely release candidate after 2019, Shelley would provide ideal competition with Tre Herndon to take over at nickel for the Jaguars in 2020.If the Jaguars are looking for longer boundary corners to get in the mix with Meeks, a few prospects I like are Virginia’s Tim Harris, Texas’ Davante Davis, and Kentucky’s Chris Westry. SafetyVaughnte Dorsey, Texas TechThere’s a log jam of late round safeties in this draft and a much more prominent name like Miami’s Sheldrick Redwine or Temple’s Delvon Randall may be available once the dust settles, but I’ll go a little more under the radar with Texas Tech strong safety Vaughnte Dorsey. A JUCO transfer from Gulf Coast Community College, the former high school dual-threat quarterback is a stocky striker in run support who also excels in as a mental processor in zone coverage with plus ball skills. To illustrate his ability to contribute as a balanced safety in both coverage and run support, Dorsey finished second in the Big 12 in interceptions (4) in 2018 and also had 11 tackles in one game in a great showing against Oklahoma. Dorsey also adds a wrinkle as a blitzer and does a good job of timing the snap with great closing speed and pursuit angles to run down even the best athletes at quarterback (Kyler Murray). Dorsey is an ideal scheme fit as an interchangeable safety in the Jaguars 4-3 system and could challenge C.J. Reavis for a final roster spot.Other fringe safeties I’m high on include Troy’s Cedarius Rookard and West Virginia’s Toyous Avery.Which defensive UDFAs are you high on? EDTShareTweetShareShareFalcons draft scouting report: RB Qadree Ollison, Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY SportsAs the Atlanta Falcons look to insert some size and muscle into their running back group, let’s take a look at what rookie running back Qadree Ollison brings to the table. Running the football was a stated desire by Falcons head coach Dan Quinn on numerous occasions this offseason. In order to do that, however, getting lead back Devonta Freeman 100% healthy is first priority. The team also needed to add some beef and aggressiveness to the offensive line, which they have obviously done this offseason period. Going into the 2019 NFL Draft, it appeared to some extent that the Falcons were headed in the direction of adding another running back to the fray for 2019 and beyond. In the fifth round, they did, in the form of a big back with the ability to finish runs and provide some punch. Time to put the late-round pick under the microscope and get familiar with his skill set. Qadree Ollison Scouting Report Height: 6’1 Weight: 228 lbs Career stats: 529 carries, 2,859 yards, 5.4 yards per carry, 29 rushing touchdowns Games watched: 2015 vs. Virginia Tech, , 2018 vs. Penn State, 2018 vs. Virginia Tech, 2018 vs. UCF, 2018 vs. Syracuse, 2018 vs. ClemsonStrengths: When viewing Ollison, you immediately notice the size with a near 230-pound frame. Ollison filled in as a redshirt freshman for Pittsburgh in 2015 as the program endured the loss of former starter James Conner to illness. Ollison proceeded to post 1,121 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He capped off his career with a team-leading 1 http://www.thebearslockerroom.com/authentic-jim-mcmahon-jersey ,213 yards and another 11 scores in 2018, good to earn second-team All-ACC honors. Ollison has a thick, compact frame that tends to bounce off defenders when he lowers his shoulder. Ollison displays good balance through contact and maintains active legs when meeting defenders. Ollison posted a 4.58 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which is fairly impressive given his size and running ability. Once Ollison reaches the second level of defenses, the power back displays a nice amount of burst to extend runs and shows a second gear. During his career, Ollison recorded touchdown runs of 67, 71, and 97 yards. He displays plenty of patience to allow blocks to develop whether it’s inside or outside zone runs. Ollison makes things very difficult for the ball carriers who choose to tackle him in the upper frame of his body. He shows no tendency to dance in the backfield and is your classic north-south runner. Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY SportsWeaknesses: In today’s game, many backs have elusiveness and agility. Unfortunately, Ollison does not have that in his arsenal. His running style displays power but also stiffness in his hips. Ollison’s change of direction skills are lacking as well, as he is pretty much a straight-line runner. Slight promise is showed in the route running department, but his overall catching ability is average at best. Pass protection is also average as he shows at times the habit of lunging at oncoming blitzes. Conclusion: Ollison was arguably the most surprising selection of the 2019 NFL Draft, not because of where he was drafted, but because of his overall ability and what many assumed the Falcons to be looking for. Ollison brings a physical style that the Falcons’ running back group has not necessarily had in the last few seasons. While he’s not lead back material, he is definitely a prospect who can ultimately carve out a role of 10 to 15 carries a game and someone who can be a late game closer for an offense that has the lead and needs to shut the door. Based on where Ollison was drafted, it is best to shelve any expectations that are simply unreachable. However, Ollison can provide some pop for a Falcons team that is looking to pound the rock a little more in the future. CSTShareTweetShareShareBears sign Beavers to reserve / futures contractJake Roth-USA TODAY SportsThe Chicago Bears added another player to their offeason roster earlier today when they signed offensive lineman Willie Beavers to a reserve/futures contract. You may recognize the name, because Beavers was on Chicago’s practice squad in 2018. The Bears are his fifth different stop in his NFL journey after being a 4th-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2016. He played two games for the Vikings that year, but was released before the 2017 started. He bounced from practice squads of the Patriots, back to the Vikings, and finally to the Seahawks in 2017 Womens Walter Payton Jersey , and he was in the final cut-downs of Seattle before the 2018 season started. The Bears added him to their practice squad on November 5, 2018, and now the 25-year old will have a shot to impress this offseason.According to my math, the Bears currently have 12 players on reserve/futures deals, and those players are;Willie Beavers, OL, Western Michigan - 6’5”, 324Dejon Allen, OL, Hawaii - 6’3”, 290Abdullah Anderson, DL, Bucknell - 6’5”, 295John Franklin III, DB, Florida Atlantic - 6’1”, 186Tanner Gentry, WR, Wyoming - 6’1”, 201Cyril Grayson, WR, LSU - 5’9” Gale Sayers Jersey , 183Michael Joseph, DB, Dubuque - 6’1”, 187Jonathon Mincy, DB, Auburn - 5’10”, 196Ryan Nall, RB, Oregon State - 6’2”, 232James Vaughters, LB, Stanford - 6’2”, 250Josh Woods, ILB, Maryland - 6’1”, 204Jameer Thurman, LB, Indiana State - 6’0”, 230Even though Vaughters is listed on their transactions page, his name does not appear on their roster. Patrick Mahomes threw for 4 touchdowns in that contest, but it was Tyreek Hill who truly dominated the game. Gus Bradley’s defense seemingly had no answer for him as he caught 7 passes for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hopefully, the defense is better prepared for the speedster tonight. The Chiefs will be without Kareem Hunt Youth Nasir Adderley Jersey , whom they released earlier in the month. He was not terribly productive in their first game, but the defense certainly had to respect the fact that he was dangerous. Hunt’s replacement, Spencer Ware, is injured. Damien Williams will almost certainly be the feature back tonight. He’s not a bad player, but he’s a substantial step down from Hunt or a healthy Ware. The most noteworthy difference from the first contest has to be that Joey Bosa is back. And he is playing like one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. A more limited KC rushing attack combined with a superior LA pass rush should take a lot of pressure off the Chargers’ defensive backfield and give the visitors a much better chance of winning.Go Chargers! The Chargers have made “Fight for L.A.” one of their slogans since moving from San Diego to Los Angeles and starting to try to build up their fanbase in their new home. They made that move a year after the Rams and both teams are trying to sell tickets to the new stadium that they will both call home in the future. A Rams Super Bowl win would likely give their efforts a boost on that front and Chargers running back Melvin Gordon put any ill feelings about his team’s playoff loss behind him when asked if civic pride dictated his rooting choice.“Yeah Cheap Nasir Adderley Jersey , I don’t want the Rams to win,” Gordon said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I live in L.A. I don’t care where y’all put me on TV saying this. I need them to lose. I love the guys over there. I’m cool with Todd [Gurley]. I’m cool with all them boys. But man, I need them boys to lose.”Neither outcome is a particular positive for the Chargers as they haven’t shown an ability to snap the Patriots’ stranglehold on the AFC White Nasir Adderley Jersey , but it would probably be a bit easier to deal with it from across the country.

Then Jenkins slammed his helmet to the turf on the sideline. The Eagles were beat up physically and mentally in a 48-7 loss that dropped their record to 4-6. It was the most lopsided defeat by a defending Super Bowl champion and it wouldn’t have been a surprise if the season spiraled downward.Instead, the Eagles were resilient. They didn’t give up. They didn’t quit. They rallied around each other. The team was willing to spend a Day 3 pick on him, according to what Benjamin Solak had to say on a recent BGN Radio episode. The odds are naturally stacked against any UDFA player but Bates might have a shot to crack the Eagles’ roster. At the very least, it seems like he’ll be in consideration for the practice squad. In order to learn more about Bates, I reached out to SB Nation’s Penn State blog: Black Shoe Diaries. Nittany Lions writer Dylan Callaghan-Croley was kind enough to answer my questions.1) Can you sum up what Bates’ college career was like?Bates was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions, making 35 starts in 37 career appearances and was a game changer for them on the offensive line. While he wasn’t a perfect lineman by any means, the offensive line when Bates was on it was stronger and more confident. In his redshirt freshman season, he earned multiple Freshman All-American honors. While he didn’t develop into the offensive lineman that some thought he could be from that freshman season, he still was a two-time All-Big Ten third team recipient in 2017 and 2018. 2) What are his strengths?Bates is an all-around versatile offensive lineman who can play a variety of positions. He’s also pretty athletic Youth Andre Dillard Jersey , so asking him to do some moving around or doing some swing work shouldn’t be a problem at all for him. He moves off the ball pretty well which does help him in the pass protection and he was one of the Nittany Lion’s best pass protectors over the course of his time in Happy Valley. 3) What are his weaknesses?Bates biggest weaknesses I would say is his lack of leverage and power at times. For a man who tested well at the combine, he isn’t the best when it comes to finding leverage with his hands and in result turning that into power. Though working with an offensive line coach like Jeff Stoutland could go along way in helping solve some of those issues. One spot he may get hurt early on in his NFL career is with his size, with him being on the smaller side at 6-foot-4 and 304-pounds, he really struggled when getting bulled rushed in college and with NFL lineman being bigger and stronger, he will need to learn to compensate for his lack of size quickly. Additionally, he needs to be better when it comes to his run blocking duties especially in being aggressive. 4) Are you surprised where he was drafted? Higher or lower than expected? Just right?I think I can speak on behalf of our entire website and really anybody who watches PSU football on a weekly basis. While we didn’t expect Bates to be a day one or day two draft pick this year, we expected him to be a solid day three pickup. That obviously didn’t happen, so for him to go completely undrafted left us flabbergasted. He has the talent to play at the NFL level Cheap Andre Dillard Jersey , he may need a bit of polishing so perhaps time on a practice squad could do him some good in terms of his development. 5) How do you see his NFL career playing out?I think this first training camp it goes without saying will be huge for Ryan Bates future in the NFL. I think if he can put together a strong camp, he has a chance to either stick around with the Eagles in some capacity or float around the league. The Eagles definitely have a need for more offensive lineman and Bates would be a great addition to that if he plays well this preseason. The one thing that will keep him around the NFL with the Eagles or another franchise, however, is his versatility, which I think could allow him to carve out a lengthy career. 6) Anything to know about him off the field?Overall, Bates is pretty much a quiet and hard working guy. He has a great work ethic from everything I’ve heard and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get better. He was one of the more highly respected teammates in Penn State’s locker room and was one of the leaders on the offensive line. Add in the factor that he is getting a chance to play for his hometown team, just 20-30 minutes away from where he grew up and there’s a strong recipe for success. Vasquez-USA TODAY SportsThe Jacksonville Jaguars were in a very tough spot at the end of the regular season. With a surprise win on the road against the Miami Dolphins, the team ended with a 5-11 record — which slotted them below the New York Giants and made them the second quarterback-needy team picking in a one-horse race. Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins was the guy and the rest of the crop — Daniel Jones, Will Grier, and more — just seemed a cut below. And then Kyler Murray declared for the 2019 NFL Draft. Now there are two options for a team wanting to roll the dice on a top-level prospect and Womens Marqise Lee Jersey , well, I couldn’t be happier. But who goes first: Haskins or Murray?Pro Football Focus has released version 3.0 of their 2019 mock draft and they’ve got Murray going ahead of Haskins.Fine by me.Haskins has a strong arm, he’s smart, he’s athletic, and he excels in the short passing game that the Jaguars will likely roll out next season alongside a revamped offensive line and power run offense. You can read a detailed breakdown of Haskins here. JACKSONVILLE Telvin Smith Jersey , Fla. (AP) — Leonard Fournette’s season-long struggles proved costly for his position coach. The Jacksonville Jaguars fired running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley and three more assistants Monday night, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity and said offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, secondary coach Perry Fewell and defensive line coach Marion Hobby also were let go one day after the season finale.Wheatley’s dismissal was the least surprising. It came one day after Fournette and T.J. Yeldon were sharply criticized for being disengaged from coaches and teammates during the 20-3 loss at Houston.Coughlin ripped both players for being “disrespectful” and “selfish.” He said “their behavior was unbecoming of a professional football player.”Fournette has missed 11 games in two seasons, including two because of suspensions, and has shown little interest in being a good professional. Yeldon http://www.thejaguarslockerroom.com/authentic-t.j.-yeldon-jersey , a pending free agent, barely played down the stretch. Jacksonville also traded a fifth-round pick for Carlos Hyde, who ran for 189 yards in eight games. All four assistants had been with the team for two seasons.Wheatley’s position group was among the least production in 2018. Fournette was one of the NFL’s biggest disappointments, finishing with 439 yards rushing and five touchdowns while missing eight games.Flaherty’s line was ravaged by injuries, but he also got little out of free-agent guard Andrew Norwell. Fewell’s secondary wasn’t nearly as productive as it was in 2017 and saw veteran safety Barry Church waived late in the season. Hobby’s unit underperformed at several positions Womens Ronnie Harrison Jersey , and first-round draft pick Taven Bryan made marginal gains in his rookie year.Coach Doug Marrone also fired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in late November, meaning he now has five job openings heading into the new year.Marrone said earlier Monday that he didn’t want to make any staff changes based on emotion, adding that he would make sure “it’s for the right reasons and not just a reaction.”
