Sammy Watkins was supposed to be a game-changing

star when the Buffalo Bills drafted him fourth overall in 2014 Peyton Manning Jersey , the kind of speedy wide receiver that could make plays all over the field. It never worked out that way.Watkins had a 1,000-yard season and was reasonably productive, but he never quite hit the stardom that was expected of him. And along the way, he gained a reputation for being demanding, difficult and at times downright sulky as the number of passes that went his way reached a nadir."I was young and kind of ego-tripping," Watkins said, quite matter-of-factly, after helping the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 30-23 on Sunday to complete a season sweep. The 25-year-old Watkins played a big part in the win, too. He caught eight passes for 107 yards and two scores, and drew some of the attention from the rest of the Chiefs' stars, who all seemed to produce at crucial times as Kansas City continued its dominance of the AFC West.So what changed between Watkins in Buffalo and Watkins in Kansas City? What has enabled a guy with blazing speed, strong hands and physical size to finally become a breakout star?Well, mostly maturity."I kind of went to the Rams last year and I was in the same situation with a lot of other weapons. I learned a lot," Watkins said. "It's not about me or any one guy on this team."The Chiefs' decision to sign Watkins in free agency raised some eyebrows, not only because they had pressing needs elsewhere but because their offense was already quite potent. They had a star-in-the-making in Tyreek Hill John Elway Jersey , the reigning NFL rushing champion in Kareem Hunt and one of the best tight ends in the game in Travis Kelce, so adding Watkins to the mix seemed to be superfluous. But they wound up signing him to a $48 million, three-year deal anyway, then listened as all the pundits criticized the move throughout the summer and right into training camp.Nobody is criticizing it much these days."His approach has been unbelievable," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "He just comes out, works hard. He's not concerned with how many catches he has or any of that. For a big-time receiver, that's unique. He knows there's only one ball and we have a bunch of pretty good players, and when you have an opportunity, be a part of that. He's done that. He's done a nice job of that."Watkins was relatively quiet in an opening win over the Chargers, but he had six catches for 100 yards the following week at Pittsburgh. He had his first TD catch in a win over the 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium, then had his best game to date against the Broncos on Sunday. One was a crafty buttonhook route, where Watkins found a soft spot in the middle of the Denver defense and ran untouched 10 yards for the score. The other was a 13-yard touchdown reception. The fact that both came in the red zone is hardly a surprise: That's where Watkins is dangerous."It feels great," he said, "not just to score two times but to get the win. To do it at a high level and just go out there and play my style of game, running around Ronald Leary Jersey , having fun, throwing some good blocks and have everybody catch a lot of balls."Sounds like a team-first player, rather than the me-first guy Watkins used to be."It's always good to see Sammy go off," Kelce said. "He brings such a confidence in everything he does. You're happy for the guy because of the type of person he is and how hard he works during the week. It's awesome to see him have a day like he had."Notes: Reid said Monday he hadn't heard the comments made by the Broncos claiming that the Chiefs stretch the rules offensively by getting their offensive linemen too far downfield on their run-pass option plays. "I always ask officials beforehand if there is anything I need to tell my guys and that's never been an issue," Reid said. ... Reid did not have any injury updates Monday, though he did say LB Frank Zombo (hamstring) was probably the most serious of them. LB Anthony Hitchens (ribs) and WR Tyreek Hill (groin) also left Sunday's game against the Broncos. The Broncos traded Demaryius Thomas to the Texans in October and lost Emmanuel Sanders to a torn Achilles last week, which left rookie Courtland Sutton as the only one of their initial top three wide receivers left on the roster.Given head coach Vance Joseph’s desire to see a more aggressive passing attack, having Sutton on hand would be a plus for the team’s chances of success. A quad injury is making Sutton’s presence something less than a sure thing.Sutton didn’t practice on Tuesday as the team started prepping for Saturday’s game against the Browns, but Joseph said that the plan is for Sutton to work on Wednesday and Thursday.“That’s the plan: to get him out tomorrow a little bit,” Joseph said, via the team’s website. “We’ll see how much he can do tomorrow, but the goal is to get him ready for Saturday. That’s the ultimate goal.”Sutton caught two passes for 14 yards last week and saw fewer targets than DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick in the 20-14 loss to the 49ers.

That high octane offense went 13-3 while generating 377 yards per game, has been all but dismantled. Of the skill players who remain, running back James Conner, wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Vance McDonald accounted for 1,249 of the 6 Jack Butler Jersey ,201 yards generated during the season. The trio saw a major uptick last season while generating 3,506 yards, looming questions remain with the draft less than two weeks away. This leads to some enormous question marks that will impact the Steelers draft. Can Smith-Schuster keep evolving and be productive with additional coverage as the Steelers top wide receiver? Who will be the #2 wideout, second-year James Washington or newcomer, Donte Moncrief? Will Washington or Moncrief gel with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in 2019? Can Conner remain healthy for 16 games and break a thousand yards? How many games will McDonald miss in 2019? He has never played in all 16 games during his six-year career while missing 21 of a possible 72 games. I am worried about our offense and filling all that lost productivity in the past two seasons. A case can be made by fans that we need an infusion of talent on defense and I agree but not in the first round. The position that has the greatest need for an impact player for the 2019 season is at tight end. As I noted in earlier articles, inside linebacker and wide receiver do not have clear paths for playing time. As I pointed out McDonald, just like most of the top tight ends in the NFL T. J. Watt Jersey , misses games. I have no faith in backup tight end Xavier Grimble being able to be a reliable fill in for McDonald let alone see the substantial snap counts James participated in past years. Do I want a player on the field for 500 snaps who fails to wrap up the football, who carries the ball in the wrong hand, and tries to showcase his tough guy mentality all on the same play, while failing? Pass. I want a guy who is technically sound as a receiving tight end and the best blocking tight end in the 2019 draft. TJ Hockenson is that player. Is Hockenson a SPARQ athlete like fellow Iowa Hawkeyes Noah Fant? He is not. Fant was not asked to block in college which raises a red flag. Just because he was not asked to block in college does not mean he can’t. If he has blocking skills why did Hockenson shoulder such a load? NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks compare Hockenson to Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, which is a valid comparison. They are both big-bodied tight ends separated by only an inch and about 10 pounds. Both ran a 4.7 forty time at the combine and contribute on the field similarly. That is high praise for Hockenson to be compared to a player fourth on the NFL’s all-time reception list and 21 in receiving yards. With so much offense lost it will be hard for the Steelers to replace that with their current players. The 1,720 lost yardage from James and AB departing cannot be absorbed by players currently on the roster. A big chunk should and will but not all of it. Hockenson has the ability not only to open holes for Conners but also find holes in defensive secondaries like Heath Miller did for so many years in Pittsburgh. Hockenson being available at 20 is in doubt so it is up to general manager Kevin Colbert to move up and snag a true difference maker in 2019.
D.J. Swearinger, released abruptly

TEMPE Su’a Cravens Jersey , Ariz. — D.J. Swearinger, released abruptly by the Washington Redskins this week after publicly criticizing the defensive coaching, didn’t need much time to find a landing place. He’s back in Arizona with the Cardinals, where he played part of 2015 and all of the 2016 season.Speaking in front of his new locker on Wednesday, Swearinger called it a “rocky Christmas” and acknowledged that he was wrong to speak out against Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky and criticize the team’s strategy in a 25-16 loss to Tennessee.Still, he was surprised, he said, that it led to his release from the team.“Just living and learning,” Swearinger said, “understanding you know it wasn’t my role to call out the defensive coaches even though we had a relationship. Me and the coaches had a good relationship. But it’s just learning. I keep my mouth shut next time and just keep moving and play football, do what I do on the field.”Swearinger acknowledged he’s emotional and that controlling himself is difficult in the minutes after the game.“I’m a very passionate player,” Swearinger said. “I put my heart in this game. You put the camera in my face after we lose a game that we’re supposed to go to the playoffs, I may say some things that I shouldn’t’ say. That’s on me. I’ve got to control that and get better at that Brandon Scherff Jersey , but like I said, live and learn and keep moving forward. That’s life.”After the Redskins practice Wednesday, coach Jay Gruden said this wasn’t the first time Swearinger had problems such as this.“Yeah, repeat offenses. I’ve had many talks with him before,” Gruden said. “Obviously I didn’t get through to him. Again, that’s my responsibility. At the end of the day we decided as an organization to move on.”Swearinger had made significant contributions to the Washington defense. He had four interceptions (matching a career high), 53 tackles, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.“D.J. did some great things here without a doubt,” Gruden said. “We wish nothing but the best but at the end of the day that’s something that this franchise or any franchise can’t afford to have. We’ve moved on.”Swearinger said he got a nice welcome from Patrick Peterson and other players who were around three seasons ago. Swearinger played four games for Arizona in 2015 and was with the Cardinals the entire 2016 season, finishing with three interceptions, 64 tackles and two sacks. That success led to his three-year deal with Washington. The Cardinals, with the NFL’s worst record at 3-12, were the first team that could claim Swearinger off waivers. He has one year left on the deal he signed with Washington.Arizona’s first-year coach Steve Wilks said that claiming Swearinger was “a great move by us.”“I don’t know him personally but I like his play Preston Smith Jersey ,” Wilks said. “Scouting him, going against him, a very physical guy, tough, nasty, the DNA that we look for. Personality-wise talking to everybody in the locker room, everybody in the building, they love him.”Wilks said he will talk to Swearinger about keeping any criticism in-house.“I don’t stand in front of you guys and throw coaches or players underneath the bus, that’s not my style,” Wilks told reporters. “That’s what we would need to address. I don’t have a problem with his opinion, but we’re not going to have that opinion outside the building. He would quickly understand that.”It’s uncertain whether Swearinger will play in Sunday’s season finale at Seattle or how much he figures in the Cardinals’ plans for next season.“I can only control what I can control,” he said. “Tomorrow I’m going to come get ready for practice like I know how. If I play on Sunday, I’ll be more than ready to play. If I don’t Case Keenum Jersey , I’ll cheer my guys on and do whatever I need to do to help this team win. … I’m just happy to be back in Arizona.”Wilks might not be the coach past this weekend, but Swearinger is planning to stay.“I’m just ready to play, regardless of who the coach is, regardless of who the players are,” Swearinger said. “I’m ready to play and I’m ready to win.”The Redskins’ Josh Norman said it’s just more of the same for his team.“Every week’s been a circus for the last six weeks,” he said.NOTES: Arizona lost yet another offensive lineman when rookie tackle Korey Cunningham was placed on injured reserve. He’s the seventh offensive lineman placed on IR by Arizona this season. WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed could be done for the season because of a strained toe muscle.Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Monday that he thinks Reed was hurt on Mark Sanchez’s high throw on his first pass of a 40-16 loss to the New York Giants a day earlier.Gruden said “there is a level of concern” with Reed, who leads the team with 54 catches and 558 receiving yards.Gruden added that the Redskins will have to wait to see “if it’s one week, two weeks or the rest of the year.”Reed has played in all 13 games so far this season, his sixth in the NFL. He’s never appeared in all 16 games of a season; his career high is 14 in 2015.Washington has a four-game losing streak and is 6-7 with three games remaining, beginning next Sunday at Jacksonville.Gruden mentioned two other injury issues: Receiver Josh Doctson is in the concussion protocol and linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton has a sprained shoulder.

The Latest on the NFL owners meetings

PHOENIX (AP) — The Latest on the NFL owners meetings Tuesday (all times EDT):6:45 p.m.There’s nothing on the football field Jon Gruden likes more than a big-time playmaker. His Raiders’ trade with Pittsburgh brought to Oakland one of the game’s most dangerous scoring threats in wideout Antonio Brown.“You have to know where he is Rashaan Melvin Jersey ,” Gruden began. “He can help your running game. Put a safety over the top to double that guy, that helps you run the ball, I tell you. It helps the other guy on the other side. That’s why getting Tyrell Williams was huge. Somebody that can take advantage of some one-on-one looks.“It’s also nice to have a receiver who couldn’t care less what the coverage is. I remember Jerry Rice one year, he was so good. I used to see Jerry break the huddle and three (defensive) guys look for him: ‘There he is. Don’t let him catch the ball.’ Then at the end, Jerry had eight catches for 140 yards. He did it every week.“It is great to have a guy who can win. We have to do our part. It is a great responsibility for us to help Antonio Brown be one of the great Raiders of all time.”Gruden took a moment to catch his breath, then spoke about Brown’s skills at freelancing when a play breaks down. He believes that will provide a huge help to quarterback Derek Carr.“It’s huge. That’s where the great ones … that’s the true measuring stick of what makes a receiver great,” he said. “Because they are disguising coverage not just to fool the quarterback, they are disguising coverage to fool the wideout. Boom, they rotate to him. What are you going to do?“Some guys don’t see it and react as quick as others. The great ones, they see it and they can do it at full speed. It’s awesome. When you watch Antonio play, a lot of his production was on scramble plays.“Hopefully we can get Derek to create more on his own, maybe a little better protection Marcus Gilchrist Jersey , maybe he can buy a little more time and let Antonio go over there, then go over there, then go over there and make a play or two.”Derek Carr put Raiders in ‘manageable situations’ in loss to Broncos, Jon Gruden looking for ‘more big chunk plays’ In one regard, Derek Carr’s stat line last Sunday was stunning. I mean, completing 29 of 32 passes is incredible. Over 30 passes with just three incompletions seems hard to believe. What is also a bit hard to believe about those completion numbers is the yardage total. On 29 completions, he had just 288 yards. That’s less than ten yards per completion.Welcome (back) to the West Coast Offense, folks. It’s basic tenets are to dink and dunk defenses to death. There’s nothing wrong with that, but a you can see by Derek Carr’s stat line, even near perfection in completion percentage wasn’t enough to pull out the win with it. At least not with the defense failing to hold up their end. You’ll recall, Gruden and Rich Gannon had a great deal of success in such an offense back around the turn of the century. It’s a conservative offense and that’s how Derek Carr has been approaching it.After the first week, Gruden said he wanted to see Carr push the ball down the field more. While Carr was reluctant Dwayne Harris Jersey , saying he didn’t want to force it. The game plan didn’t do him a lot of favors either, with just two play action passes the whole game. One sign things are changing is that number went up to eight in the second game.“Play-action, you’re holding the ball for a long time. The rush is coming and trust me I know that from experience,” Carr said. “To stay on schedule, you hear coaches say that all the time, you have shot plays and sometimes you have to check them down to get six yards, well third-and-4 is a lot better than third-and-10 for a missed shot. . . We have certain plays that we like versus certain looks that sometimes, it’s hey, ‘get us in this manageable situation, we like these calls and this grouping.’ I could go on for hours about that kind of stuff, but you know. I think that taking eight play-action shots against Denver was pretty aggressive and we were able to do some good things against him.”Short passes to put the Raiders into more manageable was hit or miss Sunday. He had 12 passes for 7 yards or less that weren’t to get the first down. Exactly half of those (6) they were unable to take advantage and get the first down, resulting in a stalled drive. One of those Emmanuel Lamur Jersey , he opted for a short pass to Marshawn Lynch for a loss of four yards, while missing a wide open Amari Cooper in the back of the end zone. There were some deeper throws in this game from Carr. And more deep completions than in the opener. Despite Jared Cook catching four passes of 27 yards or more, only one of those was a deep pass. The others were short passes with yards after the catch. Carr had six passes go for 20 yards or more in Denver, three of which were deep passes, with one being the laser touchdown pass to Seth Roberts. The increase in bigger plays this game makes it even more surprising Carr was unable to surpass ten yards per completion. Which just goes to show you how many short passes there really were. Short passes aren’t the issue, really. It’s about finding the right receiver and putting it right where it needs to be to gets the most yards out of it.“I just want to be productive when we throw it,” said Gruden. “I think [TE Jared] Cook averaged 20-yards a catch in the first game. Throwing the ball on-time and accurate is a big part of winning football. We hope to get more big chunk plays. We are making an attempt to do that, and I think you will see some more of that as the year unfolds.”That’s how Gannon became a Pro Bowl passer under Gruden; By being a smart quarterback who almost always made the right decision. In those four seasons in Gruden’s offense (one after Gruden was gone) Gannon averaged over 26 TD’s and 11 INT with 11.5 yards per completion. And from a yards per catch perspective, Tim Brown had his second and third best seasons. Which means despite the dinks and dunks, there was plenty of deep shots as well.Follow @LeviDamien

It ain’t spring, it’s hope! Hope returns to Broncos CountryKirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsWhen the season ended, I like many of you, was relieved the shambling mess that was the 2018 Denver Broncos collapsed in a smoldering heap. Coach Vance Joseph was clearly out of his element, Case Keenum left his baller cleats in Minnesota, and dark clouds hung over a franchise that, for the first time in decades, notched back-to-back losing seasons.Broncos Country now finds itself in the later half of March and things are vastly different. Gone is the frustrated and ineffective coach. Gone is Case Keenum, taking his unique brand of check-down terribleness to the Washington Redskins (consider it Elway’s payback for the Super Bowl XXII beatdown). The 2019 schedule isn’t even out, but something feels different already... and no it has nothing to do with Pat Bowlen and Champ Bailey going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this August. Putting the emotional baggage Broncos Country has against Joe Flacco aside for a moment, it’s hard to deny that Keenum’s dismissal and Joe’s arrival is a net positive for the offense. I’m not going to swing wide and say how big an improvement, but it would be shocking for Denver’s offense to be even worse than it was in 2018.Kareem Jackson?! Bryce Callahan?! I’ll be honest, before free agency started, I wouldn’t have been able to point either one of those guys out of a lineup. You could say I was too concerned with raging dumpster fire in Denver to look up and see what was going on with other teams around the league. However, since they signed, I have taken time to see with my own eyes, and Joe Flacco Jersey , these guys are incredible additions to an already solid defense. Ja’Waun James you say? I like what I’ve heard and am hopeful for the Broncos perennially awful offensive line. It’s tough with linemen since nobody really notices them until get penalized or completely screw-up... Or open massive holes for running backs. Outside of Phillip Lindsay’s terrific year last year, it’s been too damn long for Broncos Country to go without noticing stellar line play in the running game. However, with the addition of Mike Munchak, offensive line woes are reported to be a thing of the past. Phillip Lindsay has to be thrilled. Things just feel different under Vic Fangio. I’m terrified of letting him down and I’m a lowly blogger who has zero interaction with the team, staff, janitorial, or pretty much anyone else outside of twitter. I can’t imagine what the players must feel when he coaches them. Discipline and respect were lacking in recent seasons and it’s great to see those tenets of Broncos football have returned in Vic Fangio’s form. Lastly, I absolutely love how he says Broncos... “Brancos”...Vowel confusion is totally acceptable when it sounds tough coming through a thick Chicago accent. Buckle up Broncos fans! The draft is right around the corner and things are just getting going. Sign me up. Denver should draft high character playersThomas B. Shea-USA TODAY SportsIt’s the time of year when we get to read, listen to and talk about the 2019 draft ad nauseam with almost zero actual idea of what will happen. It’s a fun time of guessing, hypothesizing and falling in love with certain players who have at best a 50-50 chance of succeeding in the NFL. This is a tough league and there is only one certainty that comes out of each and every draft - nothing is certain. GMs and their staffs fail over and over and over in their attempt to find talent in each level of the draft and yet they keep their jobs and are granted another year or more to pick names out of a hat and slap them on their “wish list”. Of course, a lot goes into scouting players, watching film and interviewing guys by asking really stupid questions but with such consistent inconsistency it really doesn’t seem like a big exaggeration to say that you and I could be just as good at seeing NFL talent/intelligence in college players than these “pros”. The key word here is intelligence and it’d be fitting to add the words character or perhaps “football player” as well. Scouts and GMs and football nerds can spend countless hours in watching film and say which players are the fastest, quickest, strongest or baddest but they can’t seem to be able to recognize the players that have “it.”The “it” factor is vitally important to finding athletes who will be successful in the top level of football and discovering this and elite physical talent in a young player seems to be nearly impossible. John Elway has apparently realized the importance of “it” and intelligence in young players DeMarcus Ware Jersey , and in 2018 he brought in a group of what appears to be really smart and skilled guys. We should all hope that in doing his research he will find the same success in 2019 and other future drafts. Now, who do I think will be the right fit at #10 in terms of ability and character? Of course it’s a crap-shoot as always but I’ll throw out three names that both make some sense and have been rumored to have peeked the interest of the big wigs at Dove Valley. Devin WhiteWhite is a guy I have liked since the regular season ended and the discussion about this draft class began. He’s crazy fast and athletic for an ILB and won the Butkus award as the top LB in the NCAA last season. He was also a full-time captain for his sophomore season and thus clearly shows the ability to be a leader both on and off the field. Love it. Drew LockI have not been so hot about Lock, but he does appear to be a guy with very good leadership skills and a fantastic personality. He is a media darling and would be a really good “face of the franchise” and that together with his big arm and ability to make all the throws does, in fact, put him on my list of guys the Broncos should look at. That said, I firmly believe that he’s not a top-ten talent and I don’t think that the Broncos will select him that high.Ed OliverOliver may be my favorite personality in the whole list of top 10 candidates. He claims that his absurd strength and toughness come from “being a country boy” and working with horses since he was a kid. He’s a big-nasty guy, but many experts think he hasn’t even scratched the surface of his abilities, and with proper coaching, he could become a monster talent. He’s humble, hard-working and perfectly fits my idea of a guy with the right “locker-room morality.” Oliver would do things the right way and that would be a great addition to this team.Of course there are many other players who could fall to 10 that may fit the bill and there’s always the possibility that the team trades back in the draft. But these are three guys that very possibly may be the future star of the Denver Broncos.Who would you pick?MHR Radio is now on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Acast, Stitcher,TuneIn and anywhere else you get your podcasts. With two third round picks, one being from the Antonio Brown trade, the team spent their first on a little-known player from Toledo named Diontae Johnson. While fans puzzled over the selection, wide receiver coach Darryl Drake gushed over the player the Steelers selected with their second pick in the draft process. This is what Drake had to say at the introductory press conference after the selection was made:Talk about some high praise from a very accomplished coach who has been around the likes of Antonio Brown. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Larry Fitzgerald. But for Johnson, his overall excitement started the day he met Drake, and when he visited the Steelers on an official pre-draft visit. “I love the place. I like the energy from Coach Tomlin and the general manager around the building. I just felt like I was already on the team once I stepped foot in the building.” Johnson said in a conference call the day he was drafted.Johnson feels he can be a great weapon for the Steelers David DeCastro Jersey , considering he doesn’t just play special teams as a return man, but can play inside and outside within the offense.“Playing both really because I can play both in and out. Me being able to do that gives me another weapon on offense.” Johnson added. To say Johnson is excited to not just be drafted, but to be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, might be one gigantic understatement. He realizes what he is now a part of, and seems eager to get his start at the NFL level.Check out the video below where Johnson sits down with Steelers.com’s Missi Matthews to talk about his NFL Draft experience, and getting to work with the Steelers.Steelers vs. Browns Week 1: 1st quarter in-game update The Pittsburgh Steelers and the new-look Cleveland Browns went head-to-head to kick off the 2018 regular season, and while the Steelers have owned the Browns since they re-entered the league Chukwuma Okorafor Jersey , this Hue Jackson-led group was destined to write a new chapter in the rivalry’s history. With the weather less-than-ideal for both teams, the Browns were given the choice to take the opening kickoff, or defer to the second half, and they chose to take the first possession of the 3rd quarter rather than start the game on offense. After an opening drive three-and-out for Ben Roethlisberger and company, Tyrod Taylor was able to convert two third downs, one on 3rd-and-13, but the drive ended in a Britton Colquitt punt. With both team exchanging punts on their second possessions Ramon Foster Jersey , the Steelers were finally able to put together a drive and move into Cleveland territory for the first time of the game; however, after a big completion to JuJu Smith-Schuster to put the Steelers in the red-zone, Roethlisberger was intercepted by Denzel Ward for the first turnover of the game. After the Pittsburg defense forced a punt, the Steelers’ offense has the ball in Cleveland territory at the end of the first quarter.

When we look at it, we’re hoping Drew is the future. We tend to look at it as the Brett Favre - Aaron Rodgers type situation [with the Packers]. He’s going to have time to sit and watch Joe and take his time and learn and continue to get better. We feel we’re in a good situation there. Plus, we had guys compete for backup positions and he’ll be thrown in that bunch.” ENGLEWOOD, CO - APRIL 27:Rookie QB, Drew Lock answers questions from the media during a press conference at Broncos headquarters. Denver sits at 5,280 feet above sea level, which is the highest elevation of any major city in the United States. The altitude has always been a challenging element for opposing teams. Broncos Country knows there’s a competitive edge that comes to playing in the Mile High City. Dr. Inigo San Millan of the University of Colorado’s Sports Medicine and Performance Center in Boulder, was featured in an article researching the correlation between athletic performance and altitude. It was concluded that, “altitude directly affects an athlete’s performance. Teams who practice at sea level tire 20 percent faster and transport 10 percent less oxygen in their bodies when they compete in Denver.”Photo by Zach Bland / Mizzou AthleticsAlthough the video doesn’t showcase Lock’s big arm or charming personality, it shows a young quarterback preparing for practice as a Bronco. All eyes will be, “locked,” in on the rookie quarterback as rookie mini camp starts May 10th. The Denver Broncos are looking at “some 3-5 bullsh*t” right now and nobody likes the idea of another loss before the Bye Week - especially this week’s Ultimate Fan. But it’s getting harder to be optimistic about the team’s chances at salvaging the season when it keeps making costly mistakes at very inopportune times.KilledByAnAngel becomes the first Ultimate Fan this season to predict a loss, but don’t be too hard on him - the last time a fan did that, the Broncos responded with a win just to show us...and we’ll take that all day long - won’t we Courtland Sutton Jersey , KilledByAnAngel?Of course we will. :) Week 9: Texans at BroncosMHR - Broncos hung tough with Kansas City for part of the game but couldn’t keep it together long enough - whether it was penalties or other mistakes - to really make a run for a win. Is that what this 2018 team is - “just not quite good enough”?KilledByAnAngel: Unfortunately, I think so.As much as I want to keep chugging the orange kool-aid, I’ve lost hope that this team can get over the hump of mediocrity.I’m not sure exactly what the necessary change is to be “good enough,” but my gut tells me that it’s a coaching change. We have a tremendous amount of talent on our team but it’s not coming together under this staff. The fact that we have hung in there against some of the best teams in the league tells me that we’re not lacking for heart.MHR - Demaryius Thomas is now a Texan. Do you like this move? How do you think Courtland Sutton will do in a No. 1 WR role?KilledByAnAngel: I was actually shocked by the uproar that this move created in Broncos Country. It felt like just the other day that everybody was adamant that we trade DT.Ultimately, I do like the move.DT has been one of my favorites for a long time - his is one of the few jerseys I own.But there’s no denying that he has lost a step and is no longer the No. 1 receiver on our team.Between the salary and lack of production, it was time to move on.This is one of those circumstances where the move was best for both parties involved. It allows DT to go play with an actual quarterback and have a shot at the post-season, and it frees up cap space for us while giving Sutton a chance to grow.Sutton is still rough around the edges, as you would expect from a rookie, but his physical ability has already flashed dramatically. He’s got great body control and the ability to make contested catches look easy.I agree with what Elway said - moving Sutton into a more starring role is only going to aid in his development, and I expect great things from him from here on out.MHR - Bill Musgrave called more running plays against KC and it paid off. Yesterday he said “I second the f****** motion” when reminded Broncos lead the league in yards per carry. Do you believe Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker can have the same success against the Texans run defense, which has gotten much better the past five games?KilledByAnAngel: This is going to be the stiffest run defense we have faced, so I’m not as confident our tandem will find quite as much success.I would have more confidence in our run game if our passing game was a viable threat, but that’s not where we’re at right now.I do have faith that Lindsay and Booker will be able to gain yardage, especially if Musgrave commits to the ground game. But the moment that we fall behind or the Texans stack the box, that’s all she wrote.MHR - The Texans’ front 7 - led by JJ Watt - can totally wreck an offense. How do you think Case Keenum and the Broncos’ O-line will do against this group? What kind of play calls for Keenum would you put in the game plan this week?KilledByAnAngel: Between Bolles’ propensity for penalties (which has not improved this season) and the injuries that have fallen upon our O-line, I’m worried about it. Keenum is holding on to the ball too long, which is a deadly combination with our poor pass protection. We need the same kind of play calls for Keenum that we need every week - we need to get him outside of the pocket. He thrived on play action and roll outs with the Vikings.Musgrave should call plays that don’t require Keenum to be a pure pocket passer.MHR - Two weeks ago Colby Wadman had a 50-yard punt. Last week, a 12-yarder. Are you concerned about our punting situation Bradley Chubb Jersey , especially when it needs to happen so often in our games?KilledByAnAngel: Of all of the things I’m concerned about, punting is not high on the list right now.Wadman seems to be having the struggles of getting used to playing professionally, but I think he’ll improve with more experience. Sadly, with as much as we’ll need to punt, an ugly shank or two is to be expected.MHR - Bradley Chubb was just named Defensive Rookie of the Month. What kind of impact do you expect him to keep having this season and down the road? Do you believe choosing Chubb over a QB was still the right move in the draft by Elway?KilledByAnAngel: Chubb’s progression has been awesome to see!I expect him to continue to improve as the season wears on.Despite a slow start, we’re starting to see the powerful combination of Von Miller and Chubb that we all expected when he was drafted. He’s going to acquire more and more skills, his instincts will become more refined, and we already know he has the motor to power it all.Choosing Chubb was absolutely the best move in the draft.Although we are in DESPERATE need of a proper QB, there was not going to be one available where we were picking, especially with the QB-needy teams ahead of us.Despite the fact that we already had Von, we went with the BPA and you can truly never have enough edge rushers in this league. This tag team is going to pay dividends for us for many seasons to come.MHR - Deshaun Watson is a talented QB who has become more and more comfortable each game after having a season-ending injury last year. How should the Broncos attempt to contain him?KilledByAnAngel: We’ll have to use a game plan that is similar to how we kept Russell Wilson in the pocket. Our edge rushers can’t lose contain on the outside. With that said, Watson can still damage you from inside the pocket, so we’ll need our DBs to hold up on the back end. That’s easier said than done with Hopkins and now DT, but if we get those two aspects of our D mostly working, we’ll be able to get some push up the middle of our defensive line and limit Watson’s playmaking ability.MHR - Su’a Cravens is back on the field this week. What kind of improvement can he bring to the secondary to help against DeAndre Hopkins and Demaryius Thomas?KilledByAnAngel: To me, Cravens’ impact is all potential right now. We’ve talked about him as a savior since the moment we acquired him, but until I actually see him on the field performing at a high level, I have a hard time fathoming any improvement from his contributions. I love that he came out and said Derek Wolfe Jersey , “I’m going to try to blast somebody” because I’m eager to see that kind of tenacity.I don’t see him contributing much against Hopkins and DT but I look forward to him covering the tight end, playing hard nosed against the run, and blitzing.MHR - The run defense has been gashed in several games, a few times by mediocre running backs. Lamar Miller has been great the past two games but hasn’t faced the toughest of defenses. Who has the better day on Sunday - Lamar Miller or the Broncos’ defense?KilledByAnAngel: Broncos’ defense for sure.Miller isn’t going to make it to three straight 100-yard games. He’ll find a bit of success, but I think our D is going to clamp down on the Texans’ run game and force them to beat us in other ways.MHR - What are your thoughts on the season - do the Broncos have any chance at all for a Wild Card spot, are they going to end up with “some 7-9 bullsh*t” or should they tank to go for a better draft pick?KilledByAnAngel:I really, REALLY want to say that they have a chance at a Wild Card spot, but I can’t see it happening. Not with our coaching staff and not with Keenum’s unsteady play. Our defense has the potential to be world-beaters but also ends up giving up massive games due to ineffective play calling. The Broncos will never tank - there’s just too much damn heart on the team. But I do see us in the Jeff Fisher range of 7-9.Just good enough to not get a blue chip draft pick but bad enough to give us our first back-to-back losing seasons in decades.MHR - Finally, Chris Harris joked (but not really) that he would win the one-on-one with DT if matched up in Sunday’s game because he “was just that good.” On the day Broncos honor DT, who gets the best of the matchup?KilledByAnAngel: I have to agree with Harris on this one.In watching DT week to week, my highly developed sense of being a couch coach tells me that he has slowed down. His route running is still great, but he doesn’t seem to fight for balls and certainly doesn’t have the speed he used to. I’m sure Harris has slowed down as well, but you wouldn’t know it from his prowess in the secondary. But I see DT getting around 70 yards and a score if another corner is covering him.PredictionsThe FavoritesHow did you become a Broncos fan?Birthright!I was born in Colorado, and the family has always been Broncos fans.

How may I be of assistance to the Steelers?New,42commentsPittsburgh Steelers senior defensive assistant coach Teryl Austin has a rather long job title and an even longer list of responsibilities.EDTShareTweetShareShareHello, my name is Teryl Austin. How may I be of assistance to the Steelers?Cincinnati Enquirer-USA TODAY NENew Steelers senior defensive assistant/secondary coach Teryl Austin must have felt like he had died and went to Valhalla. He had been unceremoniously dismissed from his defensive coordinator duties with the Cincinnati Bengals, a pit of misery franchise run by a clueless owner, powerless head coach, and delusional fan base. Then he lands an interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the cornerstone franchises in the NFL. The interview goes great, Austin is offered the job, but there is just one catch.Part of Teryl Austin's job description is to be Rocky Bleier Jersey , for lack of a better word, a narc. That is the bad news. The good news is it isn't a top secret mission seeing how everybody on the team and coaching staff are already more than aware. What's the big deal if all his team apparel has that one special button that is actually a spy camera and the pen to his tablet is really a recording device, just like a cop's body camera, they are only required to protect the innocent.Austin's main job description is to observe the day to day operations and interactions in and around the Steelers complex and report back to Mr. Rooney and Steelers GM Kevin Colbert. Ben Roethlisberger, as acting owner, will sit in on these meetings to go over all the information gathered by Coach Austin.Teryl's job description calls for other high profile responsibilities beyond intel gathering. First off, he has been instructed to assist Coach Tomlin with all challenge decisions. More like prevent Mike from ever throwing the red flag unless given approval from upstairs. The use of force has been granted if Austin deems it necessary.Next order of business is to assist Defensive Coordinator Keith Butler with weekly game plans and daily tasks. Little things like making sure Butler is aware of that week's opponent, who is and isn't on their active roster, and answer questions that sometimes can be confusing for Coach Butler. Like why in-game defensive adjustments are sometimes required and can be helpful Joe Gilliam Jersey , and why it is seldom a good idea to consistently attempt to cover a top wideout with your coverage challenged inside linebackers. As if that wasn't enough, Austin is supposed to protect special teams coach Danny Smith from himself. This requires Austin to only supply Smith with decaf on any coffee runs, and to hide any and all energy drinks from Coach Smith. He must make sure that Smith has completely removed the wrappers from the approximately ten pieces of Bazooka bubble gum that Smith chews during each practice or game, seeing how it could be a choking hazard. If choking does occur then Austin is required to administer the Heimlich maneuver. He must also shield Coach Smith from any debris that might inadvertently come flying out of the stands. He is even supposed to protect any innocent team personnel on the sidelines from possibly being hit by a shanked Jordan Berry punt.Lastly Teryl is supposed to listen in and try to decipher exactly what Coach Tom Bradley has been teaching Artie Burns and the rest of the Steelers secondary. All of the information gathered will be crucial by the end of the year as the Steelers decide which coaches will stay and which ones will be shown the door, especially if they have another disappointing season.Teryl Austin does have a lot on his plate, but he feels certain he is the right man for the job. It has to be better than being stuck in Cincinnati. The cycle of the Le'Veon Bell trade efforts if rivaling the lifespan of the Mayfly. From “no plan” to trade Bell to listening to offers to actively shopping to, most recently, having no serious offers, it appears that the Steelers are back to where they were three weeks ago.Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that聽no potential suitors have been aggressive yet Terry Bradshaw Jersey , and for good reason. Any team interested in trading for Bell would have to satisfy the Steelers and also persuade Bell to show up, presumably by offering him something more than his $855,000 per week rate, with no guarantee that he’ll be on the team after this season. With the trade deadline four weeks and two days away, the Steelers could (and should) wait to see whether an injury happens to a workhorse tailback on a contending team. Suddenly, someone would be interested in getting Bell for the balance of the season, willing to pay him significantly more than $855,000 per week, and unconcerned about Bell leaving next year.A trade nevertheless remains unlikely Louis Lipps Jersey , and so the question would then become whether the Steelers have shopped Bell as a precursor to rescinding the franchise tender and letting him walks away now, or whether the Steelers hoped to prime the pump for a possible trade next year, in the event Bell sits out the whole season, gets franchise-tagged again in 2019, and would then be traded to a team that could sign him to a long-term deal.

"One last mock draft? Yes one last mock draft Ryan Kerrigan Jersey , this time looking at the way too early projections for the Redskins draft pick in 2020. The mock drafters do not think Washington will be very successful next season, with a draft range from #1 - #19, and all but two projections being in the top 10. Vegas has also set expectations low with a starting line of 6 wins for the Redskins in 2019. Not good Bob.Alex Smith will likely miss this season, and could possibly be done in the NFL, so the Redskins drafted Dwayne Haskins in the 1st round this year. Washington also traded for Case Keenum, and still have an injured Colt McCoy on the roster so the only QB need they will have next year are for a solid backup. The Redskins spent their other 1st round pick on OLB Montez Sweat, who should be a long-term starter opposite Ryan Kerrigan. That did not stop several prognosticators from giving Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young to the Redskins. Kerrigan turns 31 this year, and is only under contract through next season. Would they draft OLBs in the first round in back-to-back years?Trent Williams also turns 31 this year and has a contract that runs through 2020, and there isn’t a replacement on the roster currently. Morgan Moses is locked up through 2022, and the Redskins drafted Geron Christian in the the 3rd round last year, but they will need to start looking at OTs next season. The Redskins drafted two WRs this year, including Ohio State’s Terry McLaurin, but they still show up in this roundup. Colorado’s Laviska Shenault and Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy are the popular choices to be Haskins new targets.Safety, CB, and TE round out the rest of the picks. The Redskins ignored safety and tight end in the draft this year and will likely look to next year’s draft to get some young talent. They did add Landon Collins in free agency, but need more help for him. Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis are likely on their last legs in Washington and Jeremy Sprinkle is backup level. The Redskins drafted Jimmy Moreland in the 7th round to add to their collection of late round CB lottery tickets. Josh Norman’s likely entering his last year here, and they could use an upgrade.Where will the Redskins pick, and who/what position should they take next year?#1Bleacher Report(Miller)Chase Young, OLB, Ohio State#2The Athletic(Brugler)Chase Young Vernon Davis Jersey , OLB, Ohio StateSports IllustratedJerry Jeudy, WR, AlabamaSan Diego Times U~TAndrew Thomas, OT, GeorgiaDraft SiteWalker Little, OT, Stanford#3Draft Wire(Easterling)Grant Delpit | S | LSU#4E$PN+(McShay)Chase Young, OLB, Ohio StateSporting NewsAndrew Thomas, OT, Georgia#6SB NationLaviska Shenault, WR, ColoradoYardbarkerLaviska Shenault, WR, ColoradoNBC Washington(Standig)CJ Henderson, CB, FloridaDraft BlasterChase Lucas, CB, Arizona StateThe ScoreJerry Jeudy Da’Ron Payne Jersey , WR, Alabama#7The Big LeadLaviska Shenault, WR, Colorado#8The Draft Network(Sikkema)Trey Smith, OL, Tennessee#9NFL Spin ZoneCeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma#14Walter FootballAlbert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri#19Walter Footbal(Campbell)C.J. But it remains unclear which quarterback they’re targeting, and who’s making the calls in the team’s draft room. We’ve been hearing for the last 24 hours that owner Dan Snyder wants to get his quarterback tonight and is willing to trade up to get him, but which quarterback is the one Snyder covets?Dianna Russini of ESPN reports that there’s disagreement within Washington’s front office about which quarterback to select. Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder like Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, but others prefer Duke’ Daniel Jones.Ultimately, if Snyder and Allen both want a player, that’s going to be the player they take. Everyone else works for Snyder and Allen. There’s no overruling the two of them. But this may all be moot, if Allen is talking to teams about trading up just because that’s what he likes to do before the draft, and not because he actually wants to trade into the Top 5 for a quarterback. Washington may instead just see if one of those quarterbacks drops to them at No. 15 overall.

(AP) 鈥?San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard missed practice with an injured right wrist that could keep him out of Thursday night's game against the Oakland Raiders."His wrist hurts," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "He's struggling today to hold a ball. So, we'll see how he is tomorrow."Beathard got hurt in the second quarter of a loss on Sunday at Arizona when he hit his hand on a helmet. He stayed in the game and finished 14 for 28 for 190 yards and a touchdown, falling to 1-9 in his career as a starter, including losses in all five starts this season."I definitely felt it during the game," Beathard said. "I felt it when it happened. But, I think with adrenaline going, I don't think it was affecting the way I was throwing the ball."Shanahan said he believed Beathard would be able to play if the game this week were on Sunday but doesn't know if he'll be ready on the short week for the 49ers (1-7). Beathard remained hopeful he'll be able to go, otherwise the Niners will turn to untested Nick Mullens. Mullens joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent last year after breaking all of Brett Favre's records in college at Southern Mississippi. He earned himself a practice squad spot.Mullens played well in the preseason this year and got promoted to the active roster following a season-ending knee injury to starter Jimmy Garoppolo in September."Nick comes in there Cheap Foster Moreau Jersey , moves the chains, competes hard, made some plays with his legs and his arm," Shanahan said. "Guys believe in him and he's as competitive and confident as a guy I've been around. If he needs to play this week, he'll be on it."Mullens has not taken an NFL snap and has worked mostly with the scout team in practice.Mullens won't get much practice time this week either if he plays, with the Niners holding only a walkthrough on Tuesday and then a light practice Wednesday before playing the game."That's the challenge of being a backup, you don't get a lot of reps but you have to keep mentally sharp throughout the week," Mullens said. "You have to play the game in your head before it actually plays out. That's kind of what I've done each week." The only other quarterback on the roster is Tom Savage, who is still learning the offense after being signed earlier this month. The 49ers are dealing with several injuries during this short week with backup strong safety Antone Exum already ruled out for the game with a concussion.Starter Jaquiski Tartt also could miss the game with a shoulder injury and linebacker Reuben Foster also missed practice with a hamstring injury. Several other players were limited Marshawn Lynch Jersey , including running back Matt Breida (ankle), CB Richard Sherman (calf, heel), T Joe Staley (ankle), C Weston Richburg (knee), WR Pierre Garcon (shoulder, knee), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and G Mike Person (ankle).San Francisco made two roster moves Tuesday by waiving receiver Victor Bolden Jr. and defensive back Greg Mabin, who started at cornerback two weeks ago against the Rams. Those moves clear roster spots if the 49ers decide to activate strong safety Marcell Harris and linebacker Dekoda Watson from injured reserve. OAKLAND Gabe Jackson Jersey , Calif. (AP) — The Raiders have gotten final approval for their lease to remain in Oakland for at least one more season. The Oakland City Council voted Thursday to approve the lease for 2019 with an option for 2020. The Alameda Board of Supervisors had voted earlier in the week in favor of the lease that had been formally approved by the Coliseum Authority last week. The Raiders will pay $7.5 million in rent for the Coliseum and the practice facility in Alameda in 2019 and have a $10.5 million option for 2020 in case their new $1.8 billion, 65,000-seat stadium in Las Vegas isn’t ready by then. This season likely will be the Raiders’ final season in Oakland after moving back from Los Angeles in 1995. The Raiders began playing at the Coliseum in 1966 and were there through the 1981 season before going to Southern California. The team plans to start the 2020 season at the 65,000-seat stadium being built west of the Las Vegas Strip. Taxpayers are contributing $750 million to the project. The partially tax-funded stadium that will become the home of the Raiders in Las Vegas has recently faced delays with the delivery of steel components. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports substantial completion of the venue has been pushed back by less than a week to Aug. 4, 2020. The facility would host its first event soon after. In addition to the delivery issues, a report by an independent construction monitor hired by the stadium’s oversight board released Thursday says site visits revealed that “steel components that should have been completed have not yet been erected or detailed.”

GIF Horse - Devin Bush vs Devin WhiteCould Bush don the blue and orange?Brad Mills-USA TODAY SportsBy now it’s common knowledge that Vic Fangio cut his teeth coaching linebackers. It’s also no secret that some of the best linebacker corps in NFL history found their greatest success with him calling the shots. From there, it’s simple math for fans to surmise that the Broncos will need to add talent to the current group headlined by Todd Davis and Josey Jewell. Unfortunately, this may not be the best draft to chase after an impact ‘backer. In fact, The Draft Network only lists two players among the 50 best prospects. If the Broncos want someone to step in from day one, they may need to zero in on Devin White or Devin Bush immediately. But who’s the better option? InstinctsI’ve gone back and forth on this one so much I have to call it a push. Initially, I loved White’s ability to react to the ball, especially against play action. In short yardage situations he has a preternatural feel for making the stop, such as the Ole Miss game. I do think Bush has been criticized a bit too much here. Yes, there are times you catch Bush guessing where the ball is going, but he’s in the right place at the right time far more often than not. He isn’t on White’s level against ball fakes, but the right coach will be able to hone his radar at the next level.Physicality This goes to Bush and it isn’t particularly close. White isn’t soft by any means, but Bush loves to hit and brings a level of violence to the position that sets a tone. Is it dirty to decleat a receiver away from the play if it isn’t flagged? Point of attackThis is also a clear win for the Michigan man. Bush looks far more comfortable attacking downhill and meeting blockers in the hole. Those that love him as the superior Devin will point to this as one reason why. He does the “linebacker things” really well.At the same time, there are times when he gets tangled up with blockers and doesn’t actively disengage. Because of this, he’s effectively blocked and left to chase down plays from behind. Some have this firmly down as an “undersized” problem you’ll get with Bush, but it’s probably something that will improve with coaching. There are times when White looks like he can sift through blockers like they’re little more than nuisances, but there’s also his Alabama and Georgia tape. In both games, the opposing teams ran right at him and found success. The Tide in particular really exposed him. At his best, Devin White looks unstoppable.TacklingThis also goes to Bush. White has improved in this area as 2018 went on, but Bush looks more natural wrapping up the ball-carrier. Multiple scouting reports suggest that Bush will struggle at times due to his length, but I personally believe that’s a bit overblown. White is all of 2 inches taller and his arms 1/8 of an inch longer.Bush saves the touchdown here. PursuitBoth Devin’s have the kind of athletic tools to suggest they will be sideline to sideline players in the NFL, but Devin White pops off the tape here. This is no slight at Bush, but one of the things that really excite about the Tiger is how darn twitchy he is.It’s pretty impressive when White gets on his horse to chase down plays. BlitzingThis is a strength of both players’ games, but Devin Bush is a special talent rushing the passer. He does a good job of disguising his intentions and finding a way to make himself felt when he’s coming. Michigan’s Defensive Coordinator Don Brown knew what he had and utilized Bush’s talents to full effect.Bush had top-five pass-rushing PFF grades among off-ball linebackers each of the past two seasons.I do think both will become weapons for the coordinators that inherit them, though. CoverageIt’s close, but White looks like the superior coverage player. He wasn’t challenged as often as Bush was, but his quick twitch athleticism really showed through on tape. Both players look more than capable of running with backs into the flats. They also have the athletic profile to suggest each has a ton of potential as coverage defenders.Meanwhile, the Michigan defensive scheme called on Bush to man up on receivers in space from time to time. He won some and lost some, but the fact that Michigan’s coordinator trusted him out wide says a lot. How they perform in this area as pros will have as much to do with the coaches they learn under as anything else. I suspect White will be a better coverage player from day 1, specifically against play action passes. They’ll both bite on the fake every now and then, but White is so quick to shift gears that it can go unnoticed. Bush may go through a bit of an adjustment in this regard, but he has the tools to become a dynamic coverage linebacker. He looks comfortable in all sorts of coverage assignments and has the kind of fluidity to find success in deep drops.Bush has experience roving the middle of the field, covering the flats, and manning up on receivers. Scheme fitBack when I first wrote about Devin White, I had this to say: That’s as true for Devin Bush as it is for White. The reality is the Broncos D would become awfully exciting with either. It’s a bit of a surprise that Denver did not speak with Bush at the Combine because he looks like such a clean projection of Fangio’s defense. In fact, the difference between the two most likely comes down to the mythical P-word: potential. We’re at that time of year where decision makers fall for guys who could potentially grow into whatever they dream of. That’s where White really benefits. He is so sudden that you can’t help but watch him and dream of the kind of 3 down stud all the best defenses in NFL history posses. Meanwhile, Bush is seen in some circles as the undersized guy because he’s an inch shorter and 3 pounds lighter than his counterpart. My hope is that Denver can overlook these physical qualities, because he’s every bit as exciting on tape and probably has the higher floor. This Bronco’s fan would be perfectly happy if either Devin dons the orange and blue for the next decade. Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a safe and wonderful day. What will I be doing? You mean besides writing up some Power Rankings? You know, the usual: Driving 2 1鈦? hours south to crappy ass Penrose to visit the family. Booking another vacation because why not? Keeping the TV on in the background to trick my mind that I’m not all alone. You know Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , the usual. On a serious note, the season is all but wrapped up and I’m not sure if this will be the last Power Ranking of the year or not as after this week, some teams will be resting starters while some teams will be depending on others to seal their playoff fate. After this week’s games, you can basically just go up and down the standings to get the true rankings of teams. Besides, only 12 teams can play anyways, so there isn’t much reason to rank all 32, right? Have a safe and happy holidays everyone. If you’re in one of the following cities between now and end of January, hit me up, I might be in a city near you: Los Angeles, New Orleans (for their Divisional game), Miami, Washington DC, and Denver naturally. I’ll be in Portland area likely February or March. Yes, Pete loves to take long weekend vacations. What the hell else am I gonna do with my time? Pretend I know all 10,000 college kids declaring for the draft? 1. New Orleans Saints:The NFC playoffs roll through New Orleans, and so too shall I. Yep, Jan 11 - 15th I’ll be in town. I don’t think they’ve lost all year when I’ve been there, and I don’t anticipate that changing anytime soon. Unlike the Broncos, the Saints actually win when I’m there. Then again, they don’t have a worthless head coach, so... there is that. 2. Los Angeles Rams:The Rams are on shaky ground, but so too are all the teams heading into the playoffs. I’m not sure if the Rams will be one and done, or blaze through the playoffs, destroying every team that faces them. They look fragile, but something inside of me says they can turn it on in an instant.3. Baltimore Ravens:I’m not sure how good the Ravens are, but they’re suddenly looking like the most complete team in the AFC.4. Seattle Seahawks:Like the Ravens, I’m not sure how good the Seahawks are, and I know they dropped a game a few weeks ago, but this team has some grit and resolve to them. They’re getting pretty scary all of a sudden.5. Los Angeles Chargers:Yes, they lost to the Ravens, but they still have a shot at the #1 seed with the Chiefs pulling a Chiefs and losing in December (and likely January it looks).6. Chicago Bears:They’re still winning, but I’d like for them to look more well rounded against lesser competition. Still, January in Chicago will not be a fun place to play if you’re Seattle and/or Minnesota or whoever else might be passing through.7. Dallas Cowboys:They wrapped up their division for the first time in how many generations? Kidding kidding. Lets see if they can win a playoff game before we go crowning them anything.8. Kansas City Chiefs:Oh how the once mighty have fallen. I just don’t get it KC. I thought this was the year you didn’t pull the usual tank job in December and then January. Sure, January has yet to happen, but damn! You do realize that in order to stop getting the history thrown in your face like a drink after using a lame pick up line, you gotta actually do something to change it, right?9. Houston Texans:As is the theme of these Power Rankings, all the teams are flawed. Demaryius Thomas is gone with an Achilles, and that is a big loss for a team that already has too many injuries at the Wide Receiver position. Still, you have DeShaun Watson Dre’Mont Jones Jersey 2019 , and he can heal a lot of wounds.10. Indianapolis Colts:I wish I could put them higher, but they had to rally to beat the Giants at home! 11. New England Patriots:Look, the Patriots are always a tough out in the Playoffs, but if I’m heading into Foxboro (they might end up the #2 seed), I’m not exactly dreading playing them. They have “one and done” written all over themselves.12. Pittsburgh Steelers:The Steelers have fallen from the #2 seed and a first round bye, to out of the playoffs without a miracle of miracles. I believe the Browns have to beat the Ravens AND Indy needs to tie with the Titans. I mean, the first one is possible, but rooting for a tie? That’s just absurd. On the flip side, I sure would love Mike Tomlin in Broncos gear roaming the sideline on game days!13. Cleveland Browns:What more can be said about Baker Mayfield? He has the Browns winning again. There’s entire generations of Browns fans that haven’t seen this happen yet.14. Minnesota Vikings:Again, they can beat teams with losing records, and the next up is the Bears, which according to my eyeballs and the fact that existence exists, aren’t a sub .500 team. Chalk this up as a good ol defeat. Will this eliminate this pretender of a quarterback from playoff contention yet? 15. Philadelphia Eagles:Foles got dinged up, just like The Dude’s car. How bad is it? And will he be ready next week?16. Tennessee Titans:Technically the Titans are still alive. I’m not sure if they need help even if they beat the Colts, but the fact that the aren’t in means they aren’t in the Top 12.17. Green Bay Packers:Well, their offense finally started clicking, but when you realize it was against the Jets and that the Jets gave them all they could handle, well, you just end up finding yourself ranked 17.18. Atlanta Falcons:You don’t get much love when you beat a team that shut down their QB for the year. The Falcons are the bridesmaid, not the bride.19. Jacksonville Jaguars:They finally won, but it was against that pretender ass team called the Dolphins. Miami is fools gold, just like a Broncos win against the Raiders.20. Miami Dolphins:When I look at the Dolphins, all I can think about is that damn Cyndi Lauper song “True Colors”... just without all the lovey dovey nonsense.21. New York Giants:Even in defeat, this team is showing that they can get it done every once in a while. I just don’t get it. Are they really a young QB away? Are they a crap team that gets lucky? Are they a good team that just plays bad? 22. New York Jets:Holy Sam Darnold, where did that come from? 23. Detroit Lions:You got waxed by Kirk (don’t call him Kurt) Cousins. At home! 24. Washington Redskins:I’m amazed they are as competitive as they are with who they keep trotting out on the field week after week. I’d say it’s possible good coaching, but I’m a Broncos fan, so I wouldn’t know what that looks like anymore!25. Carolina Panthers:Congratulations Colorado’s own Christian McCaffrey for setting the all time RB catch record with a game to go. 26. Cincinnati Bengals:Typically losing to the Browns would be cause for a punchline to a joke, but not this year, and probably not for many years to come.27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers:You gave Dallas a run for their money. I wish you won, because the Broncos need to move on up that draft order.28. Buffalo Bills:Eh, you win some and you lose some. You have a few decent pieces to build around, but I’m not sure you’ll be a serious team for a few more years. Although, I hear you have a lot of cap room, which can be the great equalizer.29. San Francisco 49ers:Week after week I’m stunned at how competitive the Niners are. Again, this is what amazing coaching can do for a team. Do you think Elway wishes he had that decision to make all over again?30. Oakland Raiders:Farewell Jokeland. Thanks for messing up so bad that you gave us better draft position and you worse. We can always count on you for doing the absolute dumbest thing for your franchise. And beating the Broncos ranks right up there. 31. Arizona Cardinals:Where are all the “Elway should have taken Rosen” fans now? Speak up! 32. Denver Broncos:2 minutes to go... at the 5 yard line. A chance to go up by 20. So what does Oakland do? Do they just go up by 20 with a touchdown? Oh hell no! They “Mercy Rule” us because we’re so pathetic that in a messed up way, kneeling at the 5 yard line is an even bigger slap in the face of this “we are the New Raiders... we are the New Browns... we are the New Lions” franchise. Pathetic Denver, Pathetic. I know I said you’d lose in multiple articles this week, but you straight got chumped. When the Raiders feel so sorry for you that they just kneel? Yeah, you’ve hit rock bottom. Welcome to the laughing stock of the NFL.

Steelers Film Room: Why Cameron Sutton deserves to start opposite Joe Haden It is no secret the Steelers have not found a suitable second cornerback to play opposite of Joe Haden. It does not help Haden is continually helped over the top by Sean Davis. Davis has easily been the best safety on the team Ben Roethlisberger Jersey , and is blossoming in front of our eyes. This is not to say Terrell Edmunds has been bad, because he has not, but Artie Burns has been left on an island while Edmunds is used as a chess piece around the field. Burns struggled against the Chiefs, and this fact was no secret to the Buccaneers or Mike Tomlin. Tomlin benched Burns and Tampa Bay immediately targeted him as soon as he entered the game. Burns only played a third of the game, while Sensabaugh played two-thirds of the game and Burns’ statistics were arguably worse Sensabaugh’s.Want even deeper context to that? Haden played every snap and two of the three receptions he gave up were to OJ Howard or Cameron Brate, including the touchdown attributed against him. Needless to say, that is going to be a mismatch every single time that Haden is on one of those two. His frame is simply not made to cover large bodied tight ends, but he was lockdown on the right side of the defense all game. As for Burns, he was advertised as a strong man coverage based cornerback coming out of Miami. For the first two years of his career, the Steelers used largely zone bases schemes and he blew about as many assignments as anyone else on the team. So, Keith Butler gives more man based concepts to the cornerbacks and what does Artie Burns do?He does that. Burns is a long and athletic cornerback who should be using his length to be physical and disrupt the speed aspect of receivers like Tyreek Hill. I do not know where physical Artie Burns went, but I would like for him to return. Burns was not only torched on his pathetic attempt at being physical, in which not only does he not use his hands properly, but his leg steps inside and give Hill the outside leverage. This is a textbook example on how to get burnt by Tyreek Hill. Burns had a good first game aside from his meltdown, but Monday was by far his worst game of the season. Burns was burnt time and time again by DeSean Jackson, Mike Evans Benny Snell Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey , and Chris Godwin. On Evans’ late fourth quarter touchdown, Burns put on a clinic off how not to play off ball man coverage. I explain some of what he did in the tweet itself, but what in the world are you doing with your mirroring Artie? Evans has about two steps on Burns before the cut just based off of bad mirroring by Burns alone. Once he leans inside, this is a sure touchdown as long as its on the money. Burns needs to use length and physicality to at least bump Evans off his route. You saw Joe Haden do it when he broke up a pass near the end game that was deep for Evans. Burns could easily play this a bit harder by coming down on Evans as he makes the cut, and while Evans would have a step, Burns could use his length to come back and break it up. So, Burns is playing bad, and what is the solution to the Steelers’ problems? Coty Sensabaugh! The only way this could get worse is if Sensabaugh was thrust into the starting role opposite of Haden. Boy did it ever show against the Buccaneers. There were a myriad of plays where he simply gets beat off the line from a release standpoint, but what I really want to focus on is the touchdown he allowed. There have been bad plays this season, but none have been worse than this. Sensabaugh shows the complete lack of awareness that should be possible for an NFL level cornerback. Sensabaugh is really a guy who shouldn’t be on this team. I have said it before, but give me Burns a hundred times over Coty Sensabaugh. This play should never happen. I have no clue how he managed to lose sight of this ball and any competent cornerback makes this play. That brings me to the best option for the Steelers, in my opinion, and that is starting Cameron Sutton. There is no better alternative right now. Is Sutton great? No, he is not. He is a maturing 2nd year player who is now just playing his first season after missing half of his rookie year. He has his bad moments, but he knows how to mirror, how to track Benny Snell Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey , how to be physical, and most importantly, he has ball skills.Sutton played at RCB for one drive and was in the slot after Hilton left with an elbow injury. Once they moved Sutton outside, the Buccaneers went three and out, and Sutton was targeted once because he blanketed players like this. What a fantastic display of how to stop DeSean Jackson. Fitzpatrick gets rid of it quick, but you can already see the square hips and the mirroring ability by Sutton. His hands are active and he is ready to break with any cut Jackson makes. It is simple, start Cam Sutton outside and slide Sensabaugh inside until Hilton is ready to come back. If Hilton has a significant injury and has to miss the rest of the season, please go and sign a free agent who can play outside or slot. Delvin Breaux is still available. So is David Amerson and Quenton Rollins. Are these guys any good? No, but they are all better than Coty Sensabaugh. Brian Allen is better than Coty Sensabaugh, so if you want to bring him off the practice squad, do that too. But for now, start Sutton outside. The film does not lie. EDTShareTweetShareShareComplete list of Steelers 2019 pre-draft visitors and their historical significance With the arrival of Wisconsin edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel at team facilities on Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now officially used up their full allowance 30 out of town pre-draft visitors in 2019. For the first time in several years, every player the Steelers met with in Pittsburgh has been reported by the local media, with the credit going to Bob Labriola of Steelers.com for revealing most of the guests this offseason. While no one position dominated the list of invites Benny Snell Jersey 2019 , running backs and cornerbacks feature more than most with seven and six prospects respectively, while defensive and offensive line barely got a look in with just one player from either side invited to the Steel City. The Steelers only met with three edge rushers, three safeties and three tight ends in Pittsburgh, showing slightly more interest in the wide receivers (4) and inside linebacker groups (5). Quarterback and interior offensive lineman did not figure at all among the total of 33 players hosted by the Steelers, a group that included three local prospects who do not count against the team’s overall allowance. While the Steelers met with few obvious first-round options this year, that has been something of the norm for them in recent seasons. Looking back over 11 years of names who have been invited to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit, there appears to be much greater significance to the visits for the prospects selected after round one. Of the 90 players chosen by the Steelers since 2008, 38 of them were hosted in Pittsburgh ahead of the draft that year, with the majority of those selections coming in the fourth-round or later. Historically, the Steelers pick three players each season who had been welcomed to the city as pre-draft visitors, however, that trend has not quite held up in each of the last two years. We would like to thank Valdosta State Football for providing the image of Stephen Denmark used in the graphic above and also Dave Winder of Murray State for the image of Quincy Williams.
