Some would tell you that there are only three football games left this season. There’s actually six (and no Kevin Huber Jersey White , the Pro Bowl isn’t one of them). In the next two weeks, some of most talented and unheralded college football players will be competing in the three major collegiate all-star games: the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, the East-West Shrine Game, and of course the Senior Bowl. The NFLPA Bowl and the Shrine Game will each take place this upcoming Saturday, with the Senior Bowl happening the following Saturday. One of the best aspects about this circuit of games is seeing players from the NFLPA Bowl and the Shrine Game getting late invitations to compete in the Senior Bowl, due to their inspiring performances. And while the Senior Bowl has the most clout behind it, you can count on a couple players from first two all-star games making an impact early in their NFL careers. Browns edge defender Genard Avery was a participant in last year’s NFLPA Bowl and went on to be drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft and have a solid rookie campaign. Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay was a shrine game stud that went undrafted and became arguably the steal of last year’s class. Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford and Bears defensive tackle Bilal Nichols impressed enough during Shrine Game practices were each called up to the Senior Bowl. Both got drafted fairly late and became positive contributors for their teams.Focusing on Saturday’s Shrine Game, it would be wise for the Bengals to have a good presence at the game to get an eye on guys who could be big surprises in the draft. Let’s take a look at some possible Bengals targets from the game. 1. Ty Johnson, Maryland RBThe Bengals don’t really need a running back, which is why it is good that Johnson is more than that. Johnson also returns kickoffs very well and will likely be an impact special teamer early on in his career using his athleticism. He has breakaway speed and was one of the best big-play backs in college football during his career at Maryland. The all-purpose back also has a knack for receiving out of the backfield and has the potential to develop into a rotational-back in his first few seasons in the league.2. Michael Jackson http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-preston-brown-jersey , Miami (FL) CBJackson is one of the more surprising players at the Shrine Game, not because he shouldn’t have gotten an invite, but because he probably should’ve been invited to the Senior Bowl. Jackson was one of the more hyped cornerbacks in the country going into 2018. While he didn’t take the necessary steps forward to live up to the hype, he was still a solid player who could end up being a better pro than college player. Depending on how free agency unfolds, the Bengals may need depth at cornerback with starter potential and that player very well could be Jackson.3. Tyree St. Louis, Miami OTThe Bengals desperately need help at the right tackle position as Bobby Hart simply was not good enough in 2018. St. Louis may not project as an immediate contributor, but he has potential and all the necessary tools to develop into a starter in the league. A short-term investment in a veteran right tackle would suffice for Cincinnati and allow them to draft a developmental player who can takeover for him in a couple years. St. Louis would be a good fit for a role like that.4. Brian Wallace, Arkansas OTWallace has experience with both right tackle and right guard, which just happens to be two of the Bengals biggest needs on the team. The Bengals could finally give Christian Westerman a fair shake at the right guard spot (like they should), but even if Wallace doesn’t start Womens Vontaze Burfict Jersey , he would provide valuable depth at two of the Bengals’ weakest spots with the potential of becoming more than that. The Bengals love versatility in their backup offensive linemen and Wallace is the perfect example of the kind of player they normally look for when filling out their roster.5. Daniel Wise, Kansas DTThe Bengals pass rush suffered the most when Carl Lawson tore his ACL in Week 8, but Ryan Glasgow’s ACL tear also noticeably impacted the Bengals’ front four. Glasgow’s pass-rushing development was evident to start the season and his skills as a run defender did not dip. After his injury, Cincinnati brought in a number of adequate defensive tackles to compensate for their loss, but injuries kept depleting the position. If the Bengals want to address defensive tackle in the draft, they’ll have a plethora of options at the top with how outstanding this class is. If they want to wait, Wise would be the the perfect choice to fill what they need and lost when Glasgow went down. Kansas is not known for their football, but Wise’s production is amongst the very best in this year’s class, and he should not be judged by the school he played for.The Senior Bowl is not the only all-star game to look for talent. This year’s Shrine Game features these talented players and many more that can help the Bengals in 2019. The Bengals are searching for a head coach still, but mock draft season stops for no one! It isn’t a secret where Cincinnati’s biggest holes are in their roster. There are also enough talented players who could come in and contribute at other areas on the defense falling close to the 11 spot for the Bengals to snatch up as well. Here is SB Nation’s most recent selection for the Bengals: White is the kind of linebacker that the Bengals need to add. Cincinnati’s linebacker troubles came to a head in 2018 when it just looked obvious to everyone watching and playing that the linebackers for the Bengals couldn’t keep up with any sort of athleticism. White could be a guy to bring that unit into the modern NFL with linebackers who can play sideline-to-sideline.There will likely be plenty to criticize about White as the draft draws closer Jordan Willis Jersey , and prospects are dissected as much as humanly possible. It is still easy to see that White’s athletic ability is unmatched, and he would be a clear upgrade over any linebacker the Bengals currently have. One of the biggest issues people have found so far is he tends to bite on play fakes, but you can live with that if it means he can actually keep a running back from bouncing it outside for a big gain.As far as other prospects that were available when the Bengals selected at 11, there are some pretty interesting names, although they aren’t exactly at positions of need.Ed Oliver, defensive tackle, HoustonHe is just a physical freak. He simply looks like a man among boys at times on the inside of the defensive line. He is a great run stopper, but what really makes him a great prospect is just how quickly he gets going after the ball is snapped. Oliver already has a pretty high floor, and he has room to become even better if he develops even a little more as a pass rusher, and Geno Atkins isn’t getting any younger.Clelin Ferrell Womens Vincent Rey Jersey , defensive end, ClemsonDefensive end isn’t a huge need, but you can never have too many pass rushers. We saw how badly it derailed the Bengals pass rush when Carl Lawson went down with an injury. Ferrell is the prototype for defensive ends in today’s NFL, and this draft has a ton of pass rushers that one is bound to fall to the Bengals at 11 if they choose to draft what would likely be Michael Johnson’s replacement. For the quarterback crowdThe dream of getting Dwayne Haskins should be dead for any Bengals fan. It is also unlikely Cincinnati will be looking to draft a quarterback with their 11th selection. It is still something worth following considering the team is changing directions at head coach. SB Nation currently has Drew Lock out of Missouri going 13th to the Dolphins and Daniel Jones of Duke going 28th to the Patriots. Teams who need a quarterback will likely change drastically as there seem to be an abundance of available veterans who will be flooding the market soon, and the stock of these two quarterbacks will likely change as the draft draws closer. It is hard to imagine the Bengals having their choice of the second quarterback off the board at 11, as most teams looking to get their guy trade up to draft them.

He added key pieces to a defense that lacked depth last season, while cutting bait with some familiar faces. The new signings by the Packers changed the draft strategy of the team and how analysts might have looked at potential picks. There is still great advantage to adding a pass rusher in the draft, despite signing Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith as edge rushers, but now the need is less dire if the right prospect isn’t there with one of the team’s first two picks at 12 or 30 overall. Both Smiths have sack numbers that are lower than one would like to see from stud pass rushers given the large sums of money they received, but their situations can be seen as a cause for the lack of production. Preston logged 53 pressures in 468 pass rushing stats last year, which ranks among the league’s best. As we’ve heard quite clearly this off-season, it’s about how well disrupt the quarterback that’s important.Za’Darius Smith put together 8.5 sacks last season, but in limited action. There’s reason to think that perhaps the production was a flash in the pan, or alternatively, could mean that more opportunities for him to be disruptive will mean even greater sack production. The Packers also added a young safety in Adrian Amos. Not only was he taken from a division rival, but he helps plug a glaring weakness after Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was dealt to Washington last season. Eddie Jackson got a lot of the shine in Chicago, but his former teammate, Amos, is a skilled safety who allowed Jackson to do what he could in certain cases. Amos is a sound tackler who can provide run-game support in the box as well as cover deep.Bringing in new players weren’t the only moves the Packers made this off-season. They cut bait with long-time Packer Clay Matthews III by letting him walk in free agency and released Nick Perry just two years after signing him to a hefty extension in 2017. Matthews was an aging EDGE who probably wasn’t worth a new contract given that he’s mostly rotational pass rusher at this point. Perry, meanwhile, had one good year just in time to earn a fat extension Womens Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey , but around that, his time in the NFL has been marred by injury and spotty play. It was time to cut ties with the linebacker and start fresh. Gutekunst can now shift his focus to the draft without having urgent needs looming over the Packers’ two draft picks in the first round. Another EDGE? Adding a tight end in addition to re-signing Marcedes Lewis? An offensive lineman? All options are on the table.Major AdditionsZa’Darius Smith, EDGEAdrian Amos, SPreston Smith, EDGEBilly Turner, OLRe-signedMarcedes Lewis, TEGeronimo Allison, WR (RFA)Departed in Free Agency/ReleasedClay Matthews, EDGE (Rams)Nick Perry, EDGE (unsigned)Randall Cobb, WR (Cowboys)Bashaud Breeland, CB (Chiefs)Jake Ryan, ILB (Jaguars) As the rare showdown approaches between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, the man who will be charged with stopping Rodgers is glad that he doesn’t have to do it very often.“Well, he killed us the last time we played him,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters on Wednesday, referring to a 26-21 loss at Green Bay that featured Rodgers averaged 9.7 yards per attempt. “I mean http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-demetri-goodson-jersey , he’s a great player. He does everything well. He reads coverages well, very accurate throwing the ball. He’s got a great touch down the field, short, intermediate. They get a lot of catch-and-run plays. A lot of that is because of his great accuracy. He puts the ball right on the receiver and doesn’t have to break stride and can just keep running with it. Very mobile in the pocket, extends plays, really good vision down the field, uses the cadence well, is a good situational player. I mean, he’s one of the great quarterbacks in the National Football League; no question about it. He does everything good. He can even play golf. He’s a good golfer, too.”Belichick mused for a moment that maybe he’d like to see Rodgers more than once every four years, before quickly talking himself out of that idea.“I guess it would be good if we played him more than that, but you know what I mean,” Belichick said. “I’m in no rush to see him every week. I wouldn’t want to be in that division.”With everyone else comparing Rodgers and Brady this week, it made sense to get Belichick’s views on whether he’d want to have to try to stop Brady.“Yeah, well, I’ve never played against Tom Brady,” Belichick said. “So I’m glad he’s our quarterback. He’s a great quarterback. He’s won a lot of games for us and hopefully he’ll win a lot more and we’ve won a lot of games because of him Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey White , but I’ve never played against Tom Brady so it’s a different context. I’d say playing against Aaron Rodgers is very, very difficult. He’s as good as anybody that I鈥檝e faced and we’ve faced a lot of good ones through the years. That’s not to take anything away from anybody else. I’m just saying the guy is a great player. He can do everything that a quarterback needs to do consistently. He does it well. He throws a lot of touchdowns. He doesn鈥檛 throw very many interceptions. The receivers make a ton of yards after he gets them the ball, and a big part of that is him getting them the ball in space, on the run, so that they can continue to gain positive yards after the catch. He doesn鈥檛 make them work for the ball. He gets out of some plays that very few guys can get out of. He’s got tremendous production down the field. Once again, he leads the league in touchdowns-to-interceptions. He leads the league in big plays. He’s thrown however many long passes to however many different receivers. It’s not all one guy. He’s a great player.”But Belichick realizes, as everyone should, that it’s not really a showdown between the two players.“Yeah, well, they’re not going to be on the field at the same time,” Belichick said.Still, they’ll be on the same field in the same game, and Belichick continued to gush about Rodgers, when asked about his mobility.“Well, look, he only runs when he has to run,” Belichick said. “He doesn’t go back there and just start running around for free exercise. If he can throw it http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-deshone-kizer-jersey , he’ll throw it and put it on the money and give the receiver the ball and let him play with it, let him run with it. If he needs to extend the play and there is space for him to extend the play, he’s very good at extending it. He’s fast, he’s quick, he’s got good pocket presence. He doesn鈥檛 run a lot but when he does run he’s gained some big plays — 20, 25, 30 yards running the ball if there’s nobody right there because he’s got that kind of speed and judgement. But there are plenty of plays where he just buys another second, buys a couple more seconds and then it’s 50 yards downfield. It doesn鈥檛 go down in the books as a scramble, but it’s an extended play and it’s due to his ability to get out of trouble but it’s also — his accuracy down the field is remarkable and he makes some unbelievable throws and it’s to everybody. It鈥檚 not just one guy. He just sees a little space down there wherever the defender is. He puts the ball where the receiver can get to it and the defender can’t get to it and it’s 50 yards. It could be over his head, it could be outside, it could be inside, he could under throw him, he could back-shoulder him. He’s got tremendous accuracy, a quick release and great vision. He sees guys coming at him but he doesn’t really see them. He just sees the receiver and puts the ball where it needs to go.”As a result, the Packers often go where they need to go. But not nearly as frequently as the Patriots do. Which raises an interesting question: What if Rodgers was a Patriot and Brady was a Packer? How many rings would each guy have?

At 235 pounds, Burns is a bit thin for the position, so he’ll need to pack on a few pounds if he wants to stay in there on running downs, but his athleticism and pass rushing skills are why he’s being talked about as a top-10 pick right now. Burns exhibits a variety of moves to get to the quarterback, and has the fluidity and flexibility to contort his way around opposing tackles consistently. Of his notable pass rushing moves, Burns’ spin move is probably his most notable and deadly move, which he put on display in Week 1 against Virginia Tech. I don’t know what’s more impressive, the spin move or the ability to redirect his eyes and change directions after the spin move to bring the quarterback down. Burns is the type of pass rusher and athlete the Lions desperately need on the edge, and sadly, while Burns might hear is name called early in the draft, that could be where the Lions are picking. IDL Raekwon Davis (Alabama) 6-foot-7, 317 pounds http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-tracy-walker-jersey , Junior#22 Texas A&M at #1 Alabama | 3:30 p.m. EST on CBSEither you’re sick of Alabama prospects because of A’Shawn Robinson or you don’t really care and you’re pretty excited about how Da’Shawn Hand is performing as a rookie so far. I tend to not believe in the horse crap theory of “never draft a player from (enter school here) because we haven’t had much luck there,” because every player is different. I seriously had someone tell me that they wouldn’t even consider looking at Duke linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, because Laken Tomlinson didn’t work out for us, and there haven’t been many good players to come from Duke’s football program. Um, okay. Davis is a monster, physically, and it often takes two defenders to impede him, sometimes even three. Some have compared Davis—due to his size and skill—to 49ers defensive lineman, DeForest Buckner who is fresh off of a dominating performance against Frank Ragnow and the rest of the Lions’ O-line. Davis is a work in progress as a pass rusher but shows signs of dominance with his raw strength and also does a nice job of getting underneath the pads of opposing O-linemen despite his height. With some work with former Alabama DL coach Bo Davis, Davis could see his potential unlocked with the Lions.Raekwon Davis showed up huge during Alabama’s biggest games last year. We are still waiting for any Lions interior D-lineman to show up at any time this year. LB Devin White (LSU) 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, JuniorLouisiana Tech at #6 LSU | 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPNUI left White off of my watch list from last week when highlighting last week’s LSU game because I hadn’t really watched any film on him yet, so I decided to follow my own advice and give that game a watch. It was hard not to notice White, who was flying around the field and constantly near the ball at the end of every play. The most notable play came on an important fourth-and-1 Miles Killebrew Jersey White , where White blew up the play and caused a turnover on downs, then celebrated with Cam Newton’s own “Superman” pose to the Auburn crowd. The range and athleticism jump at you when watching White, and those traits are huge in today’s prototype NFL off-ball linebacker. However, in a way, White reminds me a little of Jarrad Davis at times with his hesitance and recklessness in pursuit. White is prone to missing a tackle or two and occasionally overcommits on fakes. S Jaquon Johnson (Miami) 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, SeniorFIU at #21 Miami (FL) | 3:30 p.m. EST on ESPN2With the Lions’ secondary not performing all that well to start the year, Glover Quin appearing to “lose a step” and Tavon Wilson getting abused by the opposing team creating mismatches against him, the safety position shot up pretty high on the list of needs for Detroit.Unfortunately, Johnson may not be able to play in today’s game against FIU, but I still wanted to take this chance to talk about one of my early favorite prospects in the draft, at a position that the Lions may be coveting early. Make sure that when you do get a chance, to give Johnson a watch.Johnson is your typical, versatile safety that can move around the field and step up into man coverage if need be. He’s also very opportunistic and gravitates toward Miami’s infamous “Turnover Chain Womens Jalen Reeves-Maybin Jersey ,” forcing seven turnovers last year (four INTs and three forced fumbles). The Lions could really use an athletic safety and big-time playmaker on this defense, and I think Jaquan Johnson would be a fantastic fit for their secondary. Whether he suits up or not today, keep an eye out for him the rest of the year. It’ll be hard to miss him. The Lions fired their head coach after going 9-7 in 2017 and they went 6-10 in Matt Patricia’s first year on the job, but there’s no sign of second thoughts from the team heading into the 2019 season.Team president Rod Wood sent a letter to season ticket holders saying that the season fell short of the team’s expectations, but added that “I wholeheartedly believe in the direction of our football team.” They wont be asking many of those season ticket holders for a bigger payout in order to see if that faith is appropriate. For all but 5,099 seats in Ford Field, the price of tickets will remain the same or decrease by a few dollars. Of the seats that are seeing an increase, 1,579 will be going up by more than $5 per game for the 2019 season.Wood’s letter also touted the hiring of offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and special teams coordinator John Bonamego as reasons to feel good about the future in Detroit. If he’s proven correct, the team might be in position to raise prices on the rest of the tickets come 2020.

CINCINNATI (AP)Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict had his NFL suspension reduced from five to three games Wednesday for his egregious hit on a Chiefs running back during a preseason game. During the second preseason game White Michael Jordan Jersey , Burfict leveled running back Anthony Sherman on a pass play when he wasn’t the intended target. The play wasn’t penalized, but the league can impose fines or suspensions after reviewing plays. Burfict originally got a five-game suspension but challenged it. Appeals officer James Thrash reduced it to three games on Wednesday. Burfict will miss home games against the Ravens and Texans and a road game with the Packers. He’ll be eligible to return for a game in Cleveland on Oct. 1. It’s the second straight season he’s suspended for the first three games. He was punished last season for his hit to Antonio Brown’s head during a 2015 playoff loss to the Steelers. That punishment was due in part to his history of egregious hits. Burfict’s hit on Brown moved the Steelers in range for a last-minute field goal and an 18-16 victory in the opening round of the playoffs. The meltdown left the Bengals without a playoff victory since 1990, the sixth-longest streak of futility in NFL history. In a letter to Burfict notifying him of the latest three-game penalty, the league noted his pattern of hits on defenseless players, including one on Ravens tight end Maxx Williams that drew a $50,000 fine. ”This is not your first offense with respect to illegal hits to defenseless players,” wrote Jon Runyan, the league’s vice president of football operations. ”To the contrary Tyler Eifert Jersey , this incident is consistent with your pattern of egregious safety-related violations, including your hit on a defenseless player during the 2015 wild-card game and your hit against a Baltimore tight end away from the play on Jan. 3, 2016. ”When players violate the rules intended to protect player safety on a repeated basis, and particularly when the violations carry with them a significant risk of injury to an opposing player … you must be held accountable for this continuing unacceptable conduct.” The Bengals have staunchly defended Burfict. They supported his appeal of the suspension, contending his hit on Sherman wasn’t a technical violation of the league’s player safety rules. In response, the league cited its rules banning unnecessary contact against defenseless players and those who aren’t involved in the flow of the play. Sherman was coming out of the backfield on a throw down the field to a different player when Burfict lowered his shoulder and leveled him. In defending Burfict on Tuesday, coach Marvin Lewis said the linebacker has changed. Lewis cited several other plays in the same preseason game when Burfict followed the rules. ”On the very next play, the quarterback scrambles Drew Sample Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , Vontaze runs over and jumps over Alex Smith when he slides,” Lewis said. ”The very next play after that, the back goes to the flat and he’s going down for a first down. Vontaze is in coverage and instead of diving in or `spearing’ in, he touches him down and jumps over him out of bounds.” — The Orange and Black Insider Bengals podcast: 9/12 live stream It’s a short turnaround for the Cincinnati Bengals as they set to clash with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. However, the Packers were uniquely able to fill holes on the current roster while planning ahead to the future with a significant blend of uber-athletic, high-ceiling young players. It’s hard to ignore the fact that General Manager Brian Gutekunst values supreme athletic measurables after a second-consecutive year of picking players with incredible workout results. But here are a few other things that stood out from what appears on the surface to be a promising draft with great long-term potential.Green Bay is comfortable with its wide receiver groupSometimes a team’s decision to not draft a certain position is just as telling as when it overloads on another. In late March, I alluded to the fact that the Packers’ biggest improvements at wide receiver would come internally, rather than through the draft. While I was not surprised that Green Bay chose not to take a wide receiver in the draft’s first two days (Jace Sternberger does not count), it was a bit curious that the Packers did not target one on day three. That would seem to signal that the team is comfortable with watching the development of its current young group of receivers, particularly the trio of day-three pass-catchers taken last year.In fact, Green Bay passed on an opportunity to draft a medley of round two wideouts Womens Oren Burks Jersey , including Ole Miss’s A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf, Ohio State’s Parris Campbell, and UMass’s Andy Isabella. Brown and Metcalf in particular seemed like two high-upside players that fell perfectly to Green Bay. While no one can fault the Packers for deciding to improve the offensive line instead, it does mean that there is plenty to be expected from the combination of second-year receivers on the roster and the return of Geronimo Allison in 2019.Darnell Savage may be one of the more underrated players of the first roundWhat a perfect last name for a ball-hawking safety.Green Bay has been searching for a dynamic free safety that can roam the field and create turnovers since it lost Nick Collins. While the Packers have not yet found success with their last fairly-high safety pick Josh Jones, they reeled in a far different kind of safety with Savage. An athletic, blazing fast (4.36-second 40-yard dash) safety with proven college results in forcing takeaways, Savage may be the fastest safety in team history and among the fastest players period. His film is exciting with his ability to break on the ball and close gaps across the field with ease. While everyone has their opinion, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com has been a reliable source in recent draft profiles and it was interesting to note that almost all of Savage’s proclaimed weaknesses had to do with size.If Savage’s football IQ and instincts are deemed to be plus attributes and size is the only real knock, I am feeling pretty good about Green Bay’s selection at pick 21. Dexter Williams was the Packers’ biggest value pick and should contributeOverall, the Green Bay front office seemed to let the board come to them in each round of this year’s draft Brett Favre Jersey , never seeming to reach. While it was apparent in the post-pick presser that the team felt it got a true steal in fifth rounder Kingsley Keke, its second sixth-round pick might have represented the best value.Running back Dexter Williams should quickly find a place in the Packers’ backfield with Aaron Jones struggling to stay healthy for a full season and Jamaal Williams best suited for a change-of-pace role. The Notre Dame product will be fairly fresh entering the league with only one season of more than 39 carries. When able to earn a starting role as a senior, Williams averaged 6.3 yards per carry with 12 rushing scores. Although his ability to pass block will be the key to playing time, Williams clearly is able to get north when running lanes develop and his acceleration in the open field is faster than his 40-yard dash time would indicate. His balance of physicality and speed could eventually get Williams into an every-down role, though it might not come next season. The Packers want to run the ball effectively in 2019 in Matt LaFleur’s offense and it always remains important for the team to be able to run in cold-weather, late-season games. Williams should help in that regard while giving the team the extra body of developmental depth it was searching for.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott hasn’t played very well this season. But he continues to be one of the most popular players in the league Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , as it relates to the number of people buying his jersey.Via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Prescott’s jersey ranks No. 5 among all players this year, based on sales made by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott appears at No. 7 on that list.It underscores the value of playing for the Cowboys, a team that continues to have a strong national following despite 23 years and counting without an appearance in the NFC championship game. Prescott’s passing numbers have been less-than-pedestrian this year, with all three games ranging between 160 and 170 yards, and he’s averaging one turnover per game. Despite the urgings of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the team has not maximized Prescott’s running abilities.Maybe it all begins to change today, as the coaching staff’s nothing-to-see-here attitude transforms into changes aimed at getting more out of what they have. The simple reality may be that they just don’t have enough to move the ball as well as they’d like to, or as well as they need to. DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions seem to need a win over Green Bay to stop Matt Patricia’s first season from being a flop.Week 5 may seem a little early for an NFL team to be desperate. Not in Detroit. The Lions (1-3) were embarrassed in a 48-17 loss to the New York Jets http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-jalen-reeves-maybin-jersey , who haven’t won since the opener and appear to be one of the league’s worst teams . The Lions did earn an impressive win over New England in Week 3, but the lone victory is sandwiched between comebacks that fell short at San Francisco and Dallas.Detroit, which hasn’t won a division title since 1993, can get a boost of confidence and go into a bye week on a high if it can beat the Packers (2-1-1) for a third straight time.“It would be huge because if you win this one, you get to enjoy this one for a little bit longer and you got a break to enjoy,” Detroit receiver Golden Tate said. “If you lose this, you’re thinking about it until you’re back on the field.“Besides that, it’s a divisional game. I like to think it counts as two. A win for us and a loss for them, that’s a two-game swing in my mind.”Unlike last year’s season sweep Womens Danny Amendola Jersey , though, the Lions will have to face two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. He was injured for the 2017 matchups.“One of the best ways to get into the playoffs is to win your division games and this is our first opportunity,” Detroit safety Glover Quin said. “If we get a win here, we’ll have two wins just like Green Bay. Minnesota has one. Chicago has three wins, but no one is running away with it right now.”Here are some things to watch for in Sunday’s game at Ford Field:RODGERS REAXGreen Bay’s superstar quarterback voiced his displeasure with the offensive production last week against Buffalo despite a 22-0 win and 400-plus yards of offense. Coach Mike McCarthy has chalked up the frustration to Rodgers’ competitiveness, adding he was also unhappy.Rodgers has been playing through a left knee injury that appears to limit his mobility.“When the adrenaline kicks in on game day, I’ve felt a little better the last couple games,” he said.Green Bay’s top three receivers are banged-up, leading to them miss practice time. Davante Adams has a calf injury. Randall Cobb missed the Bills game with a hamstring injury. Geronimo Allison has been in the concussion protocol.POSSIBLE PAY DAYTate is on pace to have the best season of his nine-year career with team highs in catches (28) Golden Tate III Jersey , yards receiving (389) and receiving touchdowns (three) through four games.Entering the final year of his contract, Tate said his agent and the Lions are not discussing a new deal.“I’m always down for talking, but they completely stopped,” the 30-year-old Tate said.“I’m just going to do my job. I still feel young, which is a major key.”ANOTHER AARONAaron Jones could be emerging from the Packers’ crowded backfield. A slasher with big-play potential, Jones is working his way back into the three-man running back rotation after being suspended the first two games. He’s averaging 6.3 yards per carry after averaging 5.5 yards last year as a rookie.Jamaal Williams started the first four games and has stood out in pass protection. Ty Montgomery is a receiving threat out of the backfield. Jones has been third in the rotation, allowing the Packers to put perhaps their best runner into the game at a time when the defense isn’t as fresh.R-E-S-P-E-C-TDetroit’s Darius Slay, who has an NFL-high nine interceptions since the start of 2017, has become one of the league’s best cornerbacks http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-deshawn-shead-jersey , as last season’s All-Pro recognition confirmed.“He’s a premier corner,” Rodgers said. “And the thing I’ve always respected about him is he does star coverage. He plays on both sides of the field, he plays in the slot, and not many corners do that.”In 2015 after the Lions won in Green Bay, Slay said Rodgers foresaw the recognition that was coming.“You’re underrated,” Slay recalled Rodgers saying to him. “You’re one of the top guys. Keep playing and you’ll get (notoriety).”PRESSURE PACKAGEThe Packers’ defense finally put together a four-quarter performance in the shutout of the Bills after three roller- coaster weeks of alternating one good half with one choppy half. Granted, they had seven sacks and forced three turnovers against a rookie quarterback in Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

EDTShareTweetShareShareFor Bengals’ receivers, loyalty lies above everything elseKen Blaze-USA TODAY SportsDespite constantly preaching the practice, the Cincinnati Bengals haven’t always been able to retain the talent they’ve drafted. They lost players like Carson Palmer, Andrew Whitworth, Johnathan Joseph and numerous others that’ve impacted the team’s style on both sides of the ball. For the Queen City’s beloved football team, they’ve always been able to depend on one position: wide receiver. The Bengals’ receivers have (almost) always shown a loyalty to the city and ownership that fans nor the front office should take for granted. It’s not just the current group of guys that consider Cincinnati their home. It’s both the past and present receivers that have driven this culture within the group. Players like Chad Johnson stayed in Cincinnati because he believed in the team. Johnson played ten seasons with the Bengals, signing multiple contracts to continue his stay. Over the course of that decade, he racked in almost 11,000 yards from scrimmage. A six-time Pro Bowler, Johnson set the tone for the receiving core for years to come. Johnson’s wingman, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, played nine seasons in Cincinnati. His dedication to the team along with Ochocinco created a big-play offense that kept defenses on edge. It’s tough to say, but Johnson and Houshmandzadeh and may’ve been the best one-two receiving punch Cincinnati ever had. The duo each racked up 1,100+ yards in 2007 and combined for over nine 1,000-yard seasons. The year after Johnson’s departure and two years after Houshmanzadeh’s exodus, A.J. Green was drafted with the franchise’s fourth top-five pick in the previous 11 years at the time. Leaving after his junior year at Georgia, Green’s seen the best of times and the worst of times throughout his stay in Cincinnati, which has included five-straight losses in the Wild Card Round followed up by three-straight losing seasons. It hasn’t been until recently that he’s found his own Housh and has had the help he’s desired and needed since both Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu both left town: Tyler Boyd. Alongside Green, Boyd broke out in 2018, securing his first 1,000-yard season last year. Better as the No. 2 option in the passing game, the combination of these two should thrive under the Zac Taylor-led offense. Last season, under Marvin Lewis, Dalton, Green and Boyd all played the majority of snaps in the first eight games. Dalton, in the first eight Color Rush Rodney Anderson Jersey , averaged 263 yards and over two touchdowns per game. For the red rifle, the 263 would’ve been the second-highest average of his career. The Bengals were 5-3 prior to Green going down and eventually Dalton joining him. They were a scoring machine while healthy, and it was due to the lethal combination of Boyd and Green absolutely tormenting cornerbacks. That said, don’t expect this to be the only season that we see these two on the field together. Although they’re both free agents, like Chad and T.J., loyalty runs deep in their veins. They’ve both said on multiple occasions that they want to return next season. Boyd’s gone over how he’s at OTAs and working each and every snap to get the chance to sign a high-value extension. For Green, he recently talked about how Cincinnati is his home and how he wants to stay here a few more seasons. This is what fans want. However, what fans want hasn’t always been what the front office does. Overall, Green and Boyd should create such a force offensively that along with their desire to stay in Cincinnati, Mike Brown and company will have no choice but to pay them. They could go elsewhere; make no mistake of that. These two would be highly valuable on the open market. At the same time, they’re loyal. They know these fans, they love these fans, and they’re ready to bring something special to this city.Instead of bickering about Green’s durability concerns or Boyd’s weaknesses without Green on the field, let’s take them as the gifts they’ve been. Finally healthy, the duo may lead Cincinnati to the promise land. Going in-depth and breaking down the Cincinnati Bengalslinebacking corps. The Cincinnati Bengals have seen big-time production from linebackers over their string of playoff berths to start this decade (prior to 2016, of course). However, the play of the unit was inconsistent a year ago. Thus, the team made moves to try and improve in that regard.Stuck in the quagmire of the NFL offseason, it’s the perfect moment to look at the roster and assess what’s at each position, how the unit came about and where they could go from here. We’ve gone through quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive linemen and defensive linemen already.Article continues below ...We continue on the defensive side of the ball with the linebackers.Linebackers*Vontaze Burfict(101 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 INTs, 8 passes defensed)*Vincent Rey (86 tackles, 1 fumble recovery Cheap Rodney Anderson Jersey , 1INT, 7passes defensed)*Kevin Minter(81 tackles,3.5 sacks, 2passes defensed)Nick Vigil(21 tackles, 1 pass defensed)Marquis Flowers(7 tackles)Hardy Nickerson(N/A)Paul Dawson(N/A)Bryson Albright(N/A)Jordan Evans(N/A)Brandon Bell(N/A)<em>* = expected starter | 2016 statistics in parenthesis</em>In my eyes, there is no position group better on the Bengals roster this year than the linebacking corps. High praise to be sure, especially with the moves made to fix the wide receiver and defensive line groups. But while those groups could soon become better this area sets itself apart with thealready-proven abilities of its top players.Start with the leader of the pack. For all the character troubles a player like Burfict brings into the fold, his on-field accomplishments are inscrutable. Since being picked up as an undrafted free agent (almost exclusively because of those aforementioned character concerns) by these Bengals in 2012, he’s consistently been one of the league’s best linebackers.More from NFL Spin ZoneBuffalo Bills: Who will back up LeSean McCoy in 2017?17m agoDallas Cowboys: 5 Most important offensive players for 201713h agoKansas City Chiefs: Stat prediction for defensive stars16h agoPittsburgh Steelers: Keion Adams hopes to find a place on defense17h agoNew York Giants: Davis Webb will be backup before the end of 201718h agoThree of his five seasons have seen him rack up 100+ tackles, including leading the NFL in that measure in 2013. Across 58 regular season games, he’s garnered eight-or-more tackles in37 of them. In 22 of them, he reached double digits. He’s broken up at least five passes three different times, and been directly responsible for recovering 10 turnovers (five fumble recoveries, five interceptions) in that time. This is someone offenses must plan around busting up their plays.Rey hasn’t been on Burfict’s level, but he’s had some good seasons with the team. His play in 2013 gave them reason enough to keep him around long-term, and 2016 made it clear to them he could manage fairly well in a bigrole. Per Pro Football Focus’ grading metrics, his coverage grade last year was the best not only among Cincinnati’s linebackers but on their entire roster. In fact, when considering all defensive players with 500+ snaps in the league, hewas in the top 30 for coverage grade last season.Minter is the one to watch most, however. He is what gives this group hope for taking things to another level. While Burfict and Rey are the established players at the position, what they had been getting from their other starter in the past was abysmal.Rey Maualuga was an entrenched starter here since this decade began, but his performances didn’t exactly make him a good choice for the job. While some of his seasons were on the high end of average, many were deep in the depths of terrible. Four times he rated under 50 in PFF’s overall grading (twice he was below 40). His 2012 was one of the worst graded for any player at any position ever in their database (28.4), and 2016 was nearly as bad for him (38.2). He was a spotlighted weakness every single snap, and held onto a spot with the team for far too long.Minter doesn’t have a long track record of success himself (2016 was his first positively-graded yearin fourtotal seasons), but part of that comes from lack of opportunity. The Cardinals defense he left was stacked during his career there, so there often wasn’t much of a role for him.2015 was his first time with significant action, and though he struggled that year the experience gained in the starting lineup clearly helped last year. After PFF graded his 2015 season with a 40.5, he rose all the way up to an 81.0 in about the same number of snaps.Assuming that was the beginning of a trend for him Rodney Anderson Jersey Womens , the Burfict/Rey/Minter combination looks to be as good as any starting linebacker group the NFL has to offer. This isn’t a perfect position group by any means, however.Jan 9, 2016; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Cincinnati Bengals outside linebacker Vontaze Burfict (55) reacts after sacking Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (7) during the third quarter in the AFC Wild Card playoff football game at Paul Brown Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY SportsA big reason why is their best player. Burfict’scharacter problems that concerned so many have shown up way too often unfortunately, keeping him from being as highly regarded as his play itself should allow. He’s lost significant money and games to fines and suspensions for ugly, unnecessary plays in every year outside his rookie season. Just look at this list:2013: spears the Jet’s Stephen Hill; $21,000fine2014: caught twisting the ankles of both Cam Newton and Greg Olsen versus the Carolina Panthers; $25,000 fine2015: multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in a regular season game against Pittsburgh; $69,454 fine2016: defenseless receiver helmet-to-helmet hit on Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown in the 2015 playoffs; three-game suspension to start 2016 ($502,941 in lost salary)2016: Purposefully steps on New England’s LeGarrette Blount; $75,000 fine2016: Flips off the Buffalo crowd; $12,154 fineThat’s three games and $693,395 lost due to his infractions. One or maybe two of the lesser penalties over a four-year stretch would be one thing, but this is a clear pattern of terrible decision-making (and often downright dirty play) over his entire career. Spearing a guy in a split-second decision is one thing. Stepping on guys, twisting ankles, and picking up numerous unsportsmanlike penalties in a single game take an actual concerted amount of thought and time — and he’s done all of that and more. He’s more than earned the dirty label that’s stuck on him, and it hurts not only his wallet and personal reputation, but his team too. Multiple times there’s beenfree yardage given away in games because of his actions, and at the least it has costhis team a playoff win in that time. That hit on Brown made me question if I can even keep watching this sport, and I know I wasn’t alone in that sentiment.More from NFL Spin Zone5/31 – Buffalo Bills: Who will back up LeSean McCoy in 2017?5/30 – Dallas Cowboys: 5 Most important offensive players for 20175/30 – Kansas City Chiefs: Stat prediction for defensive stars5/30 – Pittsburgh Steelers: Keion Adams hopes to find a place on defense5/30 – New York Giants: Davis Webb will be backup before the end of 2017Unless he cleans up his act (which, based on picking up $87,154 in fines last year, doesn’t seem likely), these antics will eventually push the team too far and be subsequently removed. For different reasons, the long-term isn’t set for either of the other projected starters.Though they are coming off strong 2016 performances, neitherRey norMinter have a long history of good play. Per PFF, Rey has only graded out well twice in six years; Minter just one in four.Looking at just years with a larger sample size doesn’t help either much at all. In three years with at least half the team’s defensive snaps, Rey has only one positively graded outcome. In two years for Minter Rodney Anderson Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , he’s got just one. That’s risky on its own, butthen you look at the contract situations. Neither is onerous this season (Rey: $3.25 million; Minter: $4.25 million), but that will immediately begin to change after this year. Minter is on a one-year deal, and a good year will push the currently26-year old’s contract into a higher bracket as he enters his prime. Meanwhile, Rey is under contract for next year as of now, but it has a potential out.Though that may sound promising, there are multiple bad paths for this to follow. If he does poorly in 2017, the team can move on from him seamlessly, but that leaves a starter spot vacated. If he does well, he’s just a season away from definitely hitting free agency. That leaves the Bengals needing to eitherletting him go with possibly no replacement anyway, or having to pony up a sizablechunk of money for the31-year old. To this point, Rey has shown to be inconsistent from season to season, so the prospect of committing significant cash on him doesn’t sound appealing even before you account for his advancing age.On a positive note, moves made already could help dash those worries as the team moves forward.Vigil didn’t produce well in limited 2016 snaps, but his NFL.com draft profile showed a player who piled up production (267 total tackles, including 30 tackles for loss) and was quality in coverage. As he continues to add weight and power to his body, he could prove himself worth a bigger role.Flowers was formerly a safety in college, and his speed and movement in space make for another capable coverage guy if things work in his favor. He’s another guy who projected as needing additional bulkcoming in and offered little outside his abilities in space, but if his weaknesses were deemed to hefty to overcome the team likely would’ve moved on from him by now.Dawson’s character concerns from college seem to have followed him into the league, and have already gotten him cut from the roster once. Still, that high-end production he showed is hard to turn away from (hence why he eventually was brought back). As with the others, coverage ability is a strength, and purely based on skill-set he may be the best of these current backups. If he ever gets his head on straight, he could easily snare a starting role — and deservedly so.Should none of these previous guys pan out, this year’s draft pick Evans profiles much the same athletically and skill-set wise. His play speed and coverage chops should keep him around while he works on fixing his issues (namely: play strength and consistency as a tackler).Next: Cincinnati Bengals: Why they aren’t an elite franchiseThere may not be many concrete answers beyond this season for the Bengals linebacking corps, but the now is set up for success while future is rife with numerous intriguing possibilities.Realistically, you can’t ask for much more. This article originally appeared on

Houston’s fifth-straight win included the loss of receiver Will Fuller for the year with a torn ACL. Coach Bill O’Brien was asked by reporters on Friday whether the team will look internally or externally to replace Fuller Womens Martinas Rankin Jersey , a first-round pick in 2016. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 both,” O’Brien said. “I know there are guys in the locker room that can do certain things. If a trade will happen (the Texans saw last night what DeVante Parker can do), it needs to happen by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. Available free agents include Dez Bryant and Jeremy Maclin. Ugliness. The last quarter of yesterday’s game was pure ugliness.Considering the last time the Texans won was almost an entire calendar year ago, I will say the team and this fan base will take it any way we can get it. An 0-3 start after months of waiting in anticipation for a revitalized Houston Texans truly tested Texans fans at their core. This fourth game, the third of which has been on the road, became a breaking point for a coaching staff Justin Reid Jersey , fan base, and locker room. Too early to tank and too late to make a playoff push, thorough discontent had set in. But this Texans team and franchise, like the city it calls home, is resilient. I would rather lick the streets of a New York City subway station than be 0-4.

The Green Bay Packers beat the Buffalo Bills badly on Sunday Womens J'Mon Moore Jersey , but no one was happy with the offense and with good reason. Six of those 22 points came on long field goals, and McCarthy seemed to settle for another long field goal attempt on the first drive, though Jamaal Williams was unable to gain sufficient yardage on a third-down play to try it.McCarthy settles a lot, and that’s becoming big problem because it costs the team possessions. There are two major philosophies about picking up first downs. The first, older philosophy captures the NFL standard for most of the 1980s and 90s, which holds that first and second downs are to be used to make 3rd down easier.A few four-yards runs on the early downs will give the team flexibility to either run or pass on 3rd and short, making for an easy conversion. The new philosophy holds that offenses are now so good (and defenses so restrained) that it’s more efficient to give yourself as many opportunities as possible to gain ten yards on an individual passing play, and that the vast majority of the time, any quarterback will complete a 10-yard pass before they are forced to punt. While you do need to run sometimes, just to prove that you might http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jk-scott-jersey , the latter philosophy is far closer to optimal. We know that, on first down, a successful play must pick up at least 4 yards, and in reality that number is probably closer to 5. Your subsequent 2nd and 3rd down plays are really only successful if they pick up the first down, which means that if your first down play fails and leaves you with six yards to go or more, running is almost always a bad idea because runs don’t generally pick up big yardage. Smart teams know this. For instance, let’s look at the Rams, who are currently the cream of the crop in terms of football smarts. On 2nd or 3rd down, with 6 yards or more to go, and when the game is within one score Kevin King Jersey , the Rams have passed 87% of the time. They have only run in this situation four times all season. It’s just not something they do. In the aggregate, their plays have been successful 52% of the time, while their passing plays have been successful 60% of the time. The Packers, on the other hand, still strive for balance in these scenarios. They have passed only 68% of the time and run 32% of the time. Those runs have only succeeded 1/3 of the time, and overall in these situations, the Packers only succeed 38% of the time. We tend to focus on 3rd down efficiency, but the Packers are basically pissing away plays and drives every time they do this. Despite the fact that the Packers have an all-time great quarterback, only seven teams pass less than the Packers in this situation, which is insane. On their first drive against the Bills Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey White , the Packers faced 2nd and 10 from the Buffalo 40-yard line. Either McCarthy or Rodgers called a run to Jamaal Williams, the worst Packer runner, that lost a yard. Incredibly, on 3rd and 11, they went back to the same well, and Williams was stoned for no gain. Even if Williams hadn’t been completely stuffed, the best case scenario for those play calls was a slightly shorter but still long field goal attempt, which is hardly an ideal outcome. It is these pointless plays and drives that seems designed specifically to not score, which cause the offense such problems. The Packers then did this again in the 3rd quarter when up 19-0. The team faced 3rd and 10 and called a run to Ty Montgomery, which was stuffed for a loss of one. The Packers were forced to punt from their own 18 Womens Corey Linsley Jersey , and the defense was fortunate to preserve the shutout. The fact of the matter is that smart teams don’t operate this way. They pass more frequently and with more success when a first down is still in doubt. The actual plays that were called against the Bills were not half bad, and the second drive of the game — which resulted in a touchdown — was a thing of beauty. But the problems with the offense are deeper than individual play design. They show a fundamental lack of football understanding. McCarthy’s focus on execution has always been about the trees, but much of the rest of the NFL now runs a hyper-efficient forest, and Mike just doesn’t see it. After missing out on the Green Bay Packers’ head coaching job, it appears that Todd Monken is still interested in working for the organization. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator interviewed with the team over the weekend, but missed out on the position when the Packers picked Matt LaFleur instead. Now, there’s a chance that Green Bay could land both of the offensive minds who were reportedly at the top of their board following the first set of head coaching interviews. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Monken will interview for the Packers’ offensive coordinator position in the coming days. However, he also reportedly has a few other interviews lined up with other teams for the same job, as the Lions and Browns are both on his itinerary.Monken’s experience and success leading an offense would be an excellent addition to the LaFleur’s staff. He called plays for 15 of the the Buccaneers’ 16 games in 2018 http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-marcedes-lewis-jersey , leading them to a ninth-place finish in passing DVOA and a third-place rank in total yards. However, he did not call plays during his first two years in Tampa, as head coach Dirk Koetter held those duties; therefore, he would not necessarily be taking a significant step back by taking a non-playcalling coordinator position under LaFleur in Green Bay. In addition, his experience as a college head coach (at Southern Mississippi) could keep him in serious consideration for head coaching jobs in future years.APC’s Paul Noonan expanded on Monken’s offensive philosophy recently. It seems logical that his approach and focus on explosive plays would mesh well with LaFleur, who also values picking up chunks of yardage at once. In addition, Monken would likely bring some Air Coryell and Air Raid influences to the table, which could further diversify the Shanahan-style West Coast system that LaFleur will implement. If the Packers manage to hire Monken, fans — and quarterback Aaron Rodgers — should rejoice. His presence would give the team a coordinator with a proven track record of success in leading an NFL offense and would put Rodgers on a trajectory towards a bounce-back season in 2019.

Nothing we learned when the schedule was released this evening told us anything we didn’t already know about how easy or hard any team’s slate of opponents is Cheap Will Harris Jersey , because we already knew every team’s home and road opponents. But we did learn one way in which the schedule-makers helped the Lions and hurt the Patriots. That is in rest days, where the Lions will have an NFL-best 12 more rest days than their opponents over the course of the season, while the Patriots will have an NFL-worst 13 fewer rest days than their opponents, according to Brian Burke of ESPN.鈥廡hat’s primarily because the Lions never play an opponent coming off a bye, while the Patriots play three games against opponents coming off their byes. The Lions also benefit from extra rest before playing at Minnesota, after their annual Thanksgiving home game.Other teams that got favorable schedules from a rest perspective include the Chargers, Buccaneers, Panthers and Bills. Teams that got unfavorable schedules include the Dolphins, Eagles Will Harris Jersey Womens , Packers and 49ers. This is a case of mistaken identity. Josh Allen, the quarterback out of the University of Wyoming drafted by the Buffalo Bills, is not the focus of this article. Instead, I believe that Josh Allen, the Kentucky linebacker and edge rusher Matthew Stafford Jersey , is the ideal pick for the Detroit Lions in 2019.During the 2018 offseason, the Lions signed Devon Kennard to a three-year, $17.25 million contract to be their passing-rushing linebacker in their newly implemented 3-4 defense. On paper, this seems like a good signing: Kennard posted 7.0 sacks, good for second on the team. However, much like Romeo Okwara and his 8.0 sacks, this stat is not a good indicator of his performance last season. Specifically, he failed to deliver a consistent pass rush. Kennard had a PFF pass rushing grade of just 50.0. Despite his 425 snaps as a pass rusher, he recorded only 22 hurries. For comparison Darius Slay Jersey , rookie Da’Shawn Hand, an interior lineman, had 22 hurries on 263 pass rushing snaps. Additionally, the Lions needed Kennard to drop into coverage on occasion, and he wasn’t very effective, allowing a passer rating of 130.6 when targeted.Enter Josh Allen.Alex Reno did a profile on Josh Allen back in December, and his draft stock has skyrocketed since then. As a result, we could see a Josh Allen selected in the top 10 for the second consecutive year.Unlike the current Bills quarterback, the Kentucky linebacker is well deserving of his ranking Marvin Jones Jersey , and it starts with his athleticism:Josh Allen boasts an elite athletic profile at both linebacker and defensive end, coming in with an excellent combination of size and speed. As a pass rusher, Allen’s speed makes him a serious threat on the outside. As a linebacker, he has the ability to excel in coverage. The Lions have had issues with covering tight ends specifically in recent years, and Allen could develop into a legitimate counter to them, with the height and speed to keep up with the Travis Kelce’s and George Kittle’s of the league. As Reno notes, his pass rushing moves could use some grooming, and he could expand his arsenal as well. Nonetheless, there’s a lot of potential with Allen. The biggest hurdle preventing Allen from becoming a Detroit Lion is actually his talent. At this point Kerryon Johnson Jersey , it would be a surprise if he falls to the eighth overall pick. San Francisco, both New York teams, Oakland, and Tampa Bay are all candidates to select Allen before the Lions. The Lions have been discussed as a team that could trade down on draft day, and Allen being unavailable could instigate this move. If Allen is available when the Lions are on the clock, they should rush to the podium.

Thursday night football is here to stay Andrew Billings Jersey White , even if it’s gone for the rest of 2018.In past years, some — make that many — would have said “good riddance.” That would be misguided this year.First off, Fox’s presentation generally was strong and on target. Indeed, Troy Aikman, who has been Fox’s lead analyst for 17 years, might have had his best season.Seemingly energized by having a true national game, in prime time with no competition, Aikman not only was spot-on with his analyses, he was more than willing to criticize play calling, performance and officiating.Presenting your convictions and then sticking to them is a must for a top analyst, and Aikman came through for viewers the way he did as a three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback for Dallas.“I think after 17 years of doing it somewhat the same way, this was an opportunity to kind of change up my schedule,” says Aikman, who at first had some reservations about balancing his family and business responsibilities.“I think that is fair to say ‘energized.’ It felt more like an event, being the only game, and in prime time. On Sunday afternoon, especially for the late game, it sure seems like that’s when most people prefer to view football. But the prime time has a little bigger of a feel to it.“We did not feel as restricted to the action on the field; we never feel completely restricted. It certainly freed me up and allowed me to have even more fun within the broadcast.”Fox also wound up with some very solid matchups with intriguing storylines. Yes, NBC had the season opener, a Thursday nighter hosted by the champion Eagles in a rematch of a January playoff game with the Falcons. That wound up 18-12, eerily similar to Philadelphia’s previous win over Atlanta. It also, of course, didn’t have two teams coming off short weeks. Then, Fox prospered with three of the better games of the entire season, games that wouldn’t have had the same cachet later in the schedule.Cincinnati’s 34-23 victory over Baltimore — look at where those two teams reside now! — was entertaining, with Andy Dalton torching the Ravens with four touchdown passes. It also had the added spice of the Bengals having knocked the Ravens out of playoff contention in the 2017 finale.A week later — and this was Aikman at his best Jeff Driskel Jersey White , even if Jets fans swear play-by-play voice Joe Buck was outwardly rooting for the hosts — the Browns finally got a win, with Baker Mayfield stamping himself as an emerging force in just the third game of his rookie year.“There were so much expectations with Baker Mayfield in that city. The team had not won a lot of games, and the fans were expecting the team would start to win games, so there was this optimism around the city,” Aikman recalls.“Having been there for the preseason and then we go back in the regular season, you could just feel this energy building and it was a fan base that just wanted to celebrate. And then Baker comes off the bench to lead them to that victory. It was huge and fun to be a part of.”Jets-Cleveland was followed by the Rams‘ 38-31 shootout victory against the Vikings, when Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins combined for eight TD throws and 887 yards through the air.For those enamored of the video-game fireworks, well, that was nirvana. There was plenty of offense all year, even with only three full days between games. Oddly, the only Thursday nighter with teams coming off a previous Thursday contest, Saints at Cowboys the week after Thanksgiving, had the fewest points, 13-10 for the Cowboys. That also was a mesmerizing drama in which Dallas’ defense stamped itself as capable of carrying a contender, shutting down Drew Brees and the ultra-prolific Saints. It also might have featured Aikman and Buck’s best work.“I have become comfortable with where I am at within my job, so to speak,” Aikman says. “I always have been comfortable with my opinions and how I feel about the play on the field, and how it should be done and how teams should go about playing the game.“There have been a lot of league issues and things happening as it relates to our game. I am not trying to grandstand or get on a soap box; that’s not my nature. I think I have to be honest in how I feel, and I feel strongly enough in my beliefs to feel I am speaking for the majority of the people viewing.”There was a string of nine Thursday nighters, including New Orleans’ 31-17 victory over Atlanta on Thanksgiving night on NBC, in which it took at least 27 points to win. The Steelers went for 52 against Carolina, Denver scored 45 vs. Arizona, and Houston got 42 on Miami. So complaints about not enough rest between games mostly would come from defensive players — the same folks who have protested, often with validity, about how the rules are stacked against them. Two teams never made it to the Thursday night spotlight, Tampa Bay and Buffalo. Nobody missed them.Three others had Thursday outings Womens John Ross Jersey , but on Thanksgiving afternoon, when Chicago visited Detroit and Washington was at Dallas. The Eagles, Cowboys, Saints and Falcons all had two Thursday appearances. Aikman and Buck had 14 such games, including Redskins-Cowboys in the late-afternoon Thanksgiving spot. They doubled up Thursday/Sunday assignments seven times. The longtime partnership Aikman and Buck share made the extra duties much easier to handle.“Joe is unbelievable, such a ridiculous talent,” Aikman says. “Joe is as gifted at his craft as anyone I played with. It’s a real marvel how smooth he is and what he sees.“It’s like being married, when you’ve been around someone for so long you know their habits and patterns, and I know where Joe wants to go right from the start, how he wants to set the tone.”Overall, ratings for the 13-game Thursday night package on Fox, with its simulcast on NFL Network, were up 2 percent over the 2017 season split between CBS and NBC. The average was 14,304,000 viewers, with Chargers-Chiefs in the last of the midweek games shattering the competition at 17.4 million on Fox/NFLN. That also was a 29-28 outcome in which LA scored a TD and 2-point conversion to win at the very end.NFL games on Thursday nights are a money maker, so much so that the World Series in October hasn’t had a scheduled game that night since 2013. Of course, Fox now has the rights to both, and has no plans to create such a conflict.Wait, how about the World Series leading into Thursday night football? Competition will be key this Summer in determining how the Bengals’ final roster will look like, but who are the players who are free from competition?"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections #BITESIZEFilm RoomRoster Transactions and ContractsOrange & Black InsiderSalary Cap And CBAAnalysis37 Bengals who are locks to make the final rosterNew,8commentsCompetition will be key this Summer in determining how the Bengals’ final roster will look like, but who are the players who are free from competition?EDTShareTweetShareShare37 Bengals who are locks to make the final rosterDavid Kohl-USA TODAY SportsThrough the tumultuous turnover of the Bengals’ coaching staff this offseason, the vast majority of last year’s starters remain on the players roster. Notable long-time veterans Michael Johnson, Vincent Rey and Andre Smith seem to have given their final farewells to Cincinnati, but it’s clear that Zac Taylor’s staff plan is to see what use they have for the roster that Marvin Lewis left behind. The later Lewis years made predicting the final roster relatively easy Clark Harris Jersey White , and obvious attachment to veterans and young players alike that fit his “type” sometimes prohibited the team from being as good as it could’ve been. But with any coach, you take the bad with the good. Those years are behind us, and what we think represents a roster lock in Cincinnati may not apply anymore. Still several weeks away from training camp, let us examine who on the Bengals’ roster should be considered locks to remain on it by the time the regular season comes around.Quarterbacks (2): Andy Dalton, Ryan Finley It would take a miraculous training camp and preseason for Jeff Driskel to keep his role as Dalton’s backup over Finley, whom the Bengals traded up for to be just that. Driskel could stay on as the team’s third quarterback, but it’s more likely that he’ll be cut.Running backs (3): Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard, Trayveon WilliamsAdding Rodney Anderson is tempting here, but for the sake of keeping the final number as low as possible, we’re leaving him out. Anderson could be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list and he could be 100% ready for the season. Both are equally possible.Wide receivers (4): A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Alex EricksonErickson’s contract doesn’t make him untouchable, but there is noise regarding the new regime’s confidence in his ability. He’s the only one outside of last year’s starters that should be considered safe. Tight ends (3): C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Eifert, Drew SampleThere’s a future where the Bengals don’t have Eifert because of another devastating injury, but we’re going to assume the best when it comes to health. These three will be the core of the position, with Eifert acting more as a receiver than a blocker.Offensive tackles (2): Jonah Williams, Bobby HartBefore Cordy Glenn was officially moved inside to left guard, Hart could’ve been listed as the starting right tackle or the backup tackle. Now he appears to be the former. The question is, who will be Williams and Hart’s backup? Interior offensive linemen (4): Cordy Glenn, Billy Price, John Miller, Michael JordanClint Boling’s fate has all but been sealed with Glenn taking over the spot he manned for the last seven seasons. Christian Westerman (or even Alex Redmond!) can snag the sixth spot, if they keep that many C.J. Uzomah Jersey White , but Jordan will surely have priority. Jordan also has experience at center, which could make Trey Hopkins expendable in their eyes.Edge defenders (3): Carlos Dunlap, Sam Hubbard, Carl LawsonIt’s a safe bet that both Jordan Willis and Kerry Wynn will make it through final cuts, but Wynn’s one-year deal doesn’t mean much in terms of security. They could also go with just four if they decide to keep five interior players. Willis and Wynn would presumably be battling for that fourth spot. Interior defensive linemen (4): Geno Atkins, Andrew Billings, Ryan Glasgow, Renell WrenThese four might be the four to make up the position group, as there won’t be much competition below them on the depth chart.Linebackers (3): Nick Vigil, Preston Brown, Germaine PrattMalik Jefferson (and Deshaun Davis as well) can most definitely be argued here, but like with Anderson, he was kept off for the sake of keeping the final number low. The only thing we can be somewhat certain about is that these three will be the starters in their base defense, with one of them coming off the field when they deploy their nickel defense for most of the game.Cornerbacks (4): William Jackson, Dre Kirkpatrick, Darqueze Dennard, B.W. WebbIt was tempting to leave Kirkpatrick and Dennard out of here, but it’s *far* more likely they will be kept on than they won’t. Webb was signed in the event that Dennard would leave, but now both will be key contributors in the Bengals’ secondary. Safeties (3): Jessie Bates, Shawn Williams, Clayton FejedelemTwo starters and the new special teams captain. Brandon Wilson’s value on special teams will help him in his attempt to keep his spot, but Trayvon Henderson could very well push him for it.Specialists (3): Clark Harris, Kevin Huber, Randy BullockSecond-year kicker Tristan Vizcaino isn’t likely to be much competition for Bullock.Total locks: 37

CDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL Draft: Houston Texans’ First Round Nightmare Scenario Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY SportsOh, the NFL Draft, a three day extravaganza of predicting, projecting, and praying that months of studying will pay off. Some teams have more to desperately pray for than others, but fortunately for Texans’ fans Christian Covington Jersey White , the anticipation does not have to wait until the third round begins this year. With the 23rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, there should be plenty of talent available for the Texans to select. However, the first tier of offensive line and cornerback talent may be off the board by the time the Texans go on the clock. If so, the Texans may be scrambling to find comparable talent with a first round pick at corner or offensive tackle. This is how it could happen, and what Houston should do if it does.Part One: A Run on Offensive LinemenTo compensate for the best defensive line draft in recent memory, teams respond with a mid-first round run on offensive linemen. If you’ve studied the myriad of mock drafts posted on a daily basis, you’ve seen this scenario outlined below. Everyone and their mother is projecting the Jags take Taylor with the seventh overall pick to replace Jeremy Parnell. Taylor is the most NFL-ready right tackle in this draft class. The Packers have other needs, but as Aaron Rodgers’ health goes, so do the Packers; Williams would pair nicely with David Bakhtiari to protect Rodgers’ blind side. I could also see the Pack taking Cody Ford and moving him to guard. The Panthers have holes all over the offensive line and Dillard would shore up the left side of the line. Although I doubt Dillard makes it all the way to 16, he likely won’t get past the Panthers if he does slide a tad. The Vikings have an equally miserable offensive line as the Texans and would subsequently pick the best lineman available in this scenario. Ford is my ideal Texans draft pick, though Weston surely disagrees. Like that kid on the playground that follows the bully and gets the last kick in Shane Lechler Jersey White , the Chargers leap the Texans in this scenario to nab Little as their future left tackle. Little may not be a plug-and-play first-round talent right now, but he has an elite ceiling if he succeeds. Part Two: The Three CBs Are Swept UpIf you are a consumer of all things irrelevant (a/k/a mock drafts and flat earth theories), you’ve seen the former usually presents only three corner backs drafted in the first round. Deandre Baker, Greedy Williams, and Byron Murphy are three talented corners with vastly different skill sets, and their draft selections will be more dependent on each team’s scheme rather than their rank of talent. This is not the most elite cornerback class, but need takes precedent in the middle of the draft. The Redskins, Giants, and Titans steal the best talent right out of the Texans’ grasp. Deandre Baker is a stud corner who will dive right into the Redskins’ revolving door secondary. They will make up for his speed concerns with their base-nickel package and with newly acquired Landon Collins. Byron Murphy would excel for the Giants as a zone coverage corner on the other side of Janoris Jenkins, and Greedy Williams makes a ton of sense for Tennessee since they face Deshaun Watson, Andrew Luck and now Nick Foles twice a season. Greedy can run with T.Y. Hilton and is physical enough to battle DeAndre Hopkins Now that the dead are at the gates of Winterfell and all the talent in the land at positions of need have been taken Braxton Miller Jersey White , what do the Texans do at 23? The first thought is to trade back and get more at bats in the draft, but moving back does not make the talent any better. If this scenario takes place on April 25th, the Texans will have to read their draft board, use every second of the clock to find a trade partner, but ultimately they should make this pick:The talented corner is already on the Texans’ (and Charley Casserly’s!) radar. He met with the Texans during the Senior Bowl, as reported by Aaron Wilson. It is not that taking Ya-Sin is a guaranteed bust or a wasted pick, but teams are looking for Pro Bowl talent in the first round. Ya-Sin ran a 4.51 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine which was well within the bottom half of times for defensive backs. He played most of his career at Presbyterian and only one season at Temple as a graduate transfer. He has prototypical cornerback size and length and knows how to be aggressive at the top of his routes. His film during the Senior Bowl presented much needed tape against NFL-ready talent. Ya-Sin would be an immediate solution for the Texans at corner. The team brought in Bradley Roby and Briean Boddy-Calhoun as band-aids, but Ya-Sin is a moldable talent who I could see Bill O’Brien and Brian Gaine pulling the trigger on over reaching for a definite second-round offensive lineman. Still, for all that Ya-Sin would bring, the Texans have their eyes on a player with a higher ceiling entering the draft.
