CDTShareTweetShareShareFootball Morning In America Power Rankings Has The Texans Ranked 15thTroy Taormina-USA TODAY SportsFree agency is over. The draft is over. Oh, what an excellent time to power rank each team in the league. Peter King did exactly that in his Monday column. This is what he had to say about your Houston Texans. Even if is reasoning is a little long tooth and wily, it’s right about where Houston should be, and probably where I’ll have them when I do the same this week. What are your thoughts? Should they be in the same neighborhood as the Colts Seantrel Henderson Jersey , or down lower hanging with the Jags and Titans? I can hear the leaves crunch through the television, hidden behind the “OOO3333eeeeAAAhhhhOOaarrGGGHHH, I DON’T KNOW JEEEEms” coming from Tony Romo and the funeral cadence of Jim Nantz. The sky is bright and blue. I’m nostalgic for 2012. I’ll be watching this one somewhere. I don’t know where. I got a brother and best friend in town. Are you opening up the garage and sucking in this November light? Will you be doing rails of pumpkin spice? Still, the team gave its strongest indication that it will during general manager Brian Gutekunst’s Monday press conference.“I would expect that to happen,” Gutekunst said about Clark’s fifth-year option. “He’s a dominant player on the defensive front.”A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Clark has become the Packers’ most reliable player along the defensive line despite his young age (he doesn’t turn 24 until October of this year). Talented ascending players like Clark rarely get away from the team that drafted them, and Green Bay can keep him through the 2020 season for a relative bargain. In three seasons, Clark has amassed 131 total tackles and 10.5 sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, he has also registered 92 total pressures, the fourth most on the Packers over that span and second among defenders returning to Green Bay for the 2019 season. As long as they’ve had Aaron Rodgers at the helm, the Green Bay Packers have largely used the top of the draft for help on defense. This might be the year for the Packers to shift priorities, with one of the NFL’s all-time great quarterbacks now at age 35. Coming off a second straight absence from the playoffs, the pressure has been put on new coach Matt LaFleur to use his strategic acumen for a boost for the offense. While finishing 6-9-1 in 2018 Clay Matthews Jersey White , the Packers were 15th in the league in points, 12th in yards, 23rd in third down conversions and 13th in percentage of touchdowns scored on possessions inside the 20-yard line.In 2016, the previous season when Rodgers played in all 16 games, the Packers ranked fourth, eighth, second and 10th in those categories, respectively.Sure, the Packers could use a starting safety next to newcomer Adrian Amos, but is that more important than a top-flight tight end to boost the passing game? What about at wide receiver, with the departure of seasoned slot man Randall Cobb removing an underneath complement to Davante Adams? While Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams have shown promise at running back, but are they both durable and dynamic enough to be the one-two punch for the type of offenses that LaFleur has often had?Remember Aaron Ripkowski Jersey , the Packers swiftly signed three starters for their defense in free agency last month: defensive end Za’Darius Smith, linebacker Preston Smith and Amos. They also devoted all of their picks of the first three rounds in the past two drafts to defense, highlighted by cornerback Jaire Alexander last year.So with four of the top 75 selections next week, general manager John Gutekunst and the Packers will have plenty of opportunities to prop up the offense.“There isn’t a grace period. This isn’t like other transitions where you maybe give a pass for the first year or two as you get acclimated to the system,” Rodgers told reporters last week as players began offseason workouts.“We have a veteran quarterback, veteran offensive linemen. We signed some big free agents for us, especially three on defense. There’s an expectation living and playing here that you’re going to compete for championships.”Here are some other key angles to follow during the draft next week for the Packers:FIRST THINGS FIRSTThe Packers have the 12th overall pick, their highest in 10 years since they made defensive tackle B.J. Raji the ninth selection. They also own the 30th overall pick, which came by a trade from New Orleans in the previous draft. The Packers started at No. 14 and moved down to No. 27 by netting two extra selections from the Saints. Then they moved back up to No. 18 to take Alexander in a swap with Seattle that sent three picks to the Seahawks and brought two back.CLEAR FOCUSWith Alexander, cornerback Kevin King (2017) and defensive tackle Kenny Clark (2016) the most recent examples, the Packers have used their first picks on defense in seven straight drafts. The only offensive player taken in one of the first three rounds in the past three years was tackle Jason Spriggs, the second-round selection in 2016 from Indiana.SKILLSETSThe Packers have not taken an offensive skill position player in the first round since Rodgers fell to them at No. 24 in 2005 Mike Daniels Jersey White , giving them three years to groom him under Brett Favre until he took the job in 2008. They’ve only taken three offensive players with their first picks at all since then.Wide receiver Jordy Nelson went in the second round in 2008, when they traded their first-rounder to move down for extra picks. Tackles Bryan Bulaga (2010) and Derek Sherrod (2011) went in the first round.HAWKING TALENTThough Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis have returned, one of the Iowa tight ends would be tough to pass up with two picks in the first round. Both T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant are projected as first-rounders. With Bulaga, defensive tackle Mike Daniels (2012), cornerback Micah Hyde (2013) and cornerback Josh Jackson (2018), the Packers have a history of Hawkeyes players.UP FRONTGutekunst can’t neglect the offensive line, despite the presence of All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari and free agent signing Billy Turner, who could start at either guard spot or even right tackle, where Bryan Bulaga has entered the final year of his contract. Alabama’s Jonah Williams is among the top-rated tackles likely to be available at No. 12.

(AP) — The Chicago Bears have a rare opportunity to beat the Detroit Lions and pick up a victory over an NFC North opponent. As accomplishments go, those seem rather modest. Then again, consider their recent history. The division-leading Bears have a chance to check off two more boxes when they host the struggling Lions on Sunday. They have lost nine of the past 10 games against Detroit and have dropped 10 in a row to division opponents heading into their matchup at Soldier Field.Since the start of the 2014 season, Chicago is 4-21 against the NFC North. But these Bears aren’t those Bears.Chicago (5-3) hit the halfway mark with its best record in five years and sole possession of the NFC North lead for the first time since 2013. It’s a big change for a franchise with four straight last-place finishes. But the Bears have already matched their win total from last year and are making a push for their first playoff appearance since the 2010 team advanced to the NFC championship game.“There’s just so much ball left,” said coach Matt Nagy, in his first season. “For our team, we’ve won in different ways and we’ve lost in different ways. I think we’ve kind of learned different ways to do it. And when you lose Isaac Nauta Detroit Lions Jersey , you try to figure out why and how to not let it happen again. When you win, you figure out why and how you can always improve and be better. I like where we’re at, but we understand we have a ways to go.”Chicago is coming off back-to-back wins over two struggling teams, with a 41-9 blowout at Buffalo after beating the New York Jets at home.Detroit (3-5) has dropped two in a row and last week’s 24-9 loss at Minnesota was particularly ugly. Matthew Stafford got sacked 10 times, and the Lions were held to single digits in points for the first time since a 17-6 loss to the New York Giants on Dec. 18, 2016.They also traded wide receiver Golden Tate to Philadelphia prior to the Vikings game, and they fired special teams coordinator Joe Marciano on Monday night.“Definitely have to learn from some of those things that we’ve done in the past that haven’t been up to par or haven’t been good enough, and try to minimize those or eliminate them as we go forward Isaac Nauta Jersey 2019 ,” coach Matt Patricia said. “That’s the most important thing.”Here are some things to know about the matchup:ON THE MENDThe Bears might get star outside linebacker Khalil Mack (ankle) and top receiver Allen Robinson (groin) back from injuries. Both players missed the past two games. But they went through full practices on Wednesday. Tight end Adam Shaheen might also return from a foot injury he suffered in the preseason.ANSAH BACKThe Lions got a boost last week with the return of defensive end Ziggy Ansah. He had a sack in the second quarter that forced the Vikings to settle for a field goal, after missing six games because of a shoulder injury. Having Ansah back means more pressure on the quarterback and maybe better luck stopping the run. The Lions rank 30th in that area.“We’ve just got to set an edge and whoever has got a gap to be in, they’ve just got to be in there,” Ansah said. “Just play fundamental and be able to execute.”FAMILIAR FOESThe Bears are about to meet the Lions twice in a 12-day span, with a Thanksgiving matchup at Ford Field and a primetime Sunday game against Minnesota at home in between. This three-game run facing the NFC North comes after four in row against the AFC East. Chicago hasn’t played a division team since a 24-23 season-opening loss at Green Bay, when it blew a 20-point lead against an injured Aaron Rodgers.STRUGGLING STAFFORDAfter a solid stretch, Stafford has struggled a bit the past two weeks with 13 sacks and a 90.3 rating. He had ratings above 100 in each of the previous five games.“He’s been with the Lions for all of his career and he has a great group of receivers, and for some reason they’re not putting games together Color Rush Isaac Nauta Jersey ,” Bears cornerback Prince Amukamara said. “But they’re still a great team and I know for a fact we won’t take them lightly.”GETTING OFFENSIVEWhile a defense that ranks fifth overall has gotten much of the credit, the Bears insist their offense is doing its part.Though Trubisky has been wild at times, his rating (96.1) is similar to Stafford’s (96.5). Chicago also ranks fifth in the NFL in scoring.

CINCINNATI (AP) — After 16 years without a playoff win under Marvin Lewis Drew Sample Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , the Bengals decided to try something different. But they had to wait more than a month before hiring Zac Taylor as their next coach in hopes of ending a long streak of futility.Taylor’s already been in town enough to know the history. The Rams quarterbacks coach reached a deal Monday a few hours after LA’s 13-3 loss to the Patriots in the Super Bowl at Atlanta. Cincinnati had to wait until after the title game to make his hiring official. The Bengals and Dolphins were the last two teams to fill head coaching vacancies, with Miami getting the Patriots’ Brian Flores. After three straight losing seasons and 28 years without a playoff victory, Cincinnati joined the latest wave — turning to a young, offensive-minded coach.“Zach is a bright coach with an offensive mind and background, which is important to have in today’s NFL,” owner Mike Brown said in a statement. “And he’s young. He embraces new ideas and new ways to do things, which will be a good thing for us.”Taylor is the Bengals’ youngest head coach since they hired Dave Shula at age 32 in in 1992. Shula went on to lose 50 games faster than any coach in NFL history, finishing 19-52.The Bengals will introduce Taylor on Tuesday in what amounts to a homecoming for the 35-year-old coach.Taylor has a head start, familiar with the city’s affinity for chili parlors. He was offensive coordinator at the University of Cincinnati in 2016, when the Bearcats finished 4-8. Coach Tommy Tuberville was replaced after the season, and Taylor headed back to the NFL.He also knows about the professional football team’s longstanding futility, too. During his one year in town, the Bengals were starting their streak of three straight losing seasons that ultimately cost Lewis his job .Taylor is taking a cue from his father-in-law, a former NFL head coach, in how to handle his new job.“My father-in-law, Mike Sherman Drew Sample Jersey 2019 , coached a long, long time, and he just said, ‘Be true to yourself. Be who you are, and people will follow you,'” Taylor said during Super Bowl week. “And I found that way to work for me.”His challenge is reminiscent of what Lewis faced when he arrived in 2003. He’ll be counted upon only to win games, but also to win back fans turned off by the owner’s aversion to change.Brown was loyal to Lewis and stuck with him despite an 0-7 mark in the playoffs, the worst in NFL history for a head coach. The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season under Sam Wyche, tied with Washington for the fifth-longest streak of postseason futility in league history.Since then, Shula, Bruce Coslet, Dick LeBeau and Lewis failed to get a playoff win. They managed only seven winning seasons combined, all by Lewis.Crowds at Paul Brown Stadium have shrunk each of the last three years, with the Bengals finishing next-to-last in the NFL attendance last season. By bringing in an outsider as head coach, the Bengals hope to send a message that things are changing. It won’t be easy in the short-term.Last season, the Bengals had their youngest team in Lewis’ 16 years Youth Drew Sample Jersey , and the inexperienced showed. Also, they’ve been unsettled at the coordinator positions in recent years, adding to the challenge. Quarterback Andy Dalton will be working under his third different coordinator in the last three seasons. The defense will have its fourth coordinator in three years — Lewis moved into the role last season after firing Teryl Austin.Taylor’s work with quarterbacks made him a head coaching prospect. He wasn’t much of a quarterback prospect himself. Undrafted out of Oklahoma, he played one year as a backup with Winnipeg in the CFL.He joined the Dolphins in 2012 and helped Ryan Tannehill develop into one of the league’s top passers. He took over as offensive coordinator for five games in 2015 after Bill Lazor — the Bengals’ coordinator last season — was fired. After the one season at the University of Cincinnati, Taylor hooked up with the Rams to work with Jared Goff. Now he’s going to run an entire team.“A lot of things stand out about him, but Zac is so good at communication and being open and honest,” Goff said. “He’s a lot like Sean (McVay) in that way. He’s got a bright future.” The tripleheader on Thanksgiving isn’t all that tasty, except for the traditional opener at Detroit. The NFC North leader from Minnesota visits Ford Field this year, and carries a two-game edge over the Lions. So this is a particularly huge game for the hosts.“They’re all big,” coach Jim Caldwell says. “Every single one of them’s a factor in the grand scheme of things. The most important one is the next one.“Someone else might have a different philosophy. I don’t believe in functioning that way. My experience has been it can work against you more than it works for you when you start looking at the grand scheme of things.`You can’t act as if one game is going to make a complete difference in the season, because you don’t know what’s going to happen the rest of the season. You have no idea.”Judging by Pro Picks’ struggles last week against the spread, having no idea is a familiar concept. Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay chairs the committee, which currently consists of two owners Oren Burks Jersey White , two team presidents (including Green Bay Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy), two general managers, and two head coaches. The Committee then presents the proposed changes to the entire group of NFL owners for a vote. A three-quarters vote is necessary for passage, meaning that 24 of the 32 owners (including Murphy as the Packers’ representative) must vote to approve in order for the change to take effect. Here’s the full list of proposed changes for the 2019 meeting. However, a breakdown of several of the notable proposals is below.Making Penalties ReviewableThis is a two-part proposal that the Competition Committee has put forth. The first part would make pass interference penalties reviewable, with a trial period of one year. It also expands automatic reviews to include scoring plays and turnovers that are negated by a penalty as well as any PAT or two-point conversion attempt.Part two is essentially the same as part one, except it expands the slate of reviewable penalties to also include roughing the passer and unnecessary roughness in regards to a defenseless player. The second part may have been helpful last season in reference to the penalties assessed against Clay Matthews early in the season. Perhaps the roughing call in the tie game against the Vikings could have been overturned Womens Kenny Clark Jersey , allowing Jaire Alexander’s interception to stand and giving the Packers a win.Several other teams submitted different versions of similar rules proposals, but the Committee’s own submissions are likely to be the ones that gain the most traction (and they encompass all except one, which will show up later). Overtime PossessionsIt seems that every time a team loses a big game in overtime without getting the ball on offense, a rule change proposal comes up. Not surprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs submitted this year’s proposal to give both teams an offensive possession, even when the first team to get the ball scores a touchdown. That proposal also would eliminate overtime in the preseason, as well as get rid of the overtime coin toss Lance Kendricks Jersey , instead giving the team that won the pregame coin toss the option to kick or receive in OT.Replace Onside KicksIt’s nearly impossible to execute an onside kick in the NFL nowadays. Thus, the Denver Broncos proposed a change to the onside kick rule, effectively allowing a team who trails to attempt a fourth-and-15 from its own 35-yard line. This rule could actually pass, too; it reportedly got seven out of eight votes from the members of the Competition Committee, on which Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy serves. Murphy clearly voted for it, since New York Giants owner John Mara was vociferous in his opposition to the change. The change would still allow teams to attempt an onside kick if they so choose, but given the conversion rates Jake Ryan Jersey White , it is difficult to imagine a team doing so in an obvious onside situation.Make EVERYTHING ReviewableThis one probably won’t pass. However, Washington submitted a proposal to make quite literally every play in the game reviewable via coaches challenge or by the replay assistant inside the final two minutes of the half and overtime. The Packers added wide receiver Randall Cobb to the injury report on Thursday and his status for Sunday’s game against the Bills is uncertain as a result.Cobb hurt his hamstring, which led him to be listed as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. The Packers did not practice on Friday, but offered an estimated practice report that listed Cobb as a non-participant.Cobb has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game and head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t sound particularly optimistic on Friday.“We’ll see what today brings. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll see how it goes,” McCarthy said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is the only Packers player ruled out and right guard Justin McCray chance of playing is considered doubtful. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is listed as questionable Womens Marwin Evans Jersey , but there’s little reason to think he won’t be in the lineup after he played the last two games with less practice time than he’ll have this week.

Green‘s return to the lineup after missing three games with a toe injury was a brief one.Green re-injured the toe in the second quarter of the game and needed a cart to get to the locker room. Green could be seen in tears as he made his way off the field and cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said that the wideout needs to consider the long view when figuring out if he’ll return to a 5-7 team.“I hope he can get better Shawn Williams Jersey White ,” Kirkpatrick said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com. “I hope we can figure out a way. But at the end of the day, I feel like his safety is first. I feel like he’s a guy we’re invested in Rodney Anderson Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , and I heard what he said the other day, but man, we’re going to need him for the future.Head coach Marvin Lewis offered no update about Green’s outlook after the game. Green rejected the idea of shutting things down for the year last week Rodney Anderson Jersey 2019 , but the team’s record and the fact that only four games remain on the schedule should factor into any decisions about how to move forward. The Bengals are getting prepared to take on the 5-1 Chiefs for a big Sunday Night Football battle. The Chiefs just happen to be the top team in the AFC, so that could have an impact on how the experts and oddsmakers view this game. It looks like another chance for the Bengals to earn some respect from a more national audience. At 4-2 the Bengals won the only primetime game originally on their schedule, a Week 2 tilt with the Ravens. This game got flexed from Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET (the Bengals’ favorite time to play) to Sunday at 8:25 p.m. ET (the Bengals’ least favorite time to play). How does that impact the odds and picks for this Week 7 matchup?OddsThe Bengals are six-point underdogs against the Chiefs Color Rush Rodney Anderson Jersey , according to Brovada. The line hasn’t really moved since the lines opened. The Bengals will obviously have an uphill battle trying to slow down the Chiefs in Kansas City, so it isn’t surprising the oddsmakers are spotting the Bengals six points. The over under is set at 58 points which seems extremely high, but the Chiefs are coming off a game where they started off slow and still put up 40 points. They also allowed 43 points Cheap Rodney Anderson Jersey , so there is a good chance these two teams will be hovering around that 58 total.Trends for both teamsCincinnati is 6-2 against the spread in its last eight gamesCincinnati is 6-2 straight up in its last eight gamesThe total has gone over in five of Cincinnati’s last seven gamesCincinnati is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games on the roadCincinnati is 4-2 straight up in its last six games on the roadCincinnati is 6-12 straight up in its last 18 games on the roadThe total has gone over in four of Cincinnati’s last five games on the roadCincinnati is 4-2 against the spread in its last six games when playing Kansas CityCincinnati is 5-1 straight up in its last six games when playing Kansas CityThe total has gone under in 8 of Cincinnati’s last 10 games when playing Kansas CityCincinnati is 3-6 straight up in its last nine games when playing on the road against Kansas CityThe total has gone under in five of Cincinnati’s last six games when playing on the road against Kansas CityKansas City is 5-0 against the spread in its last five gamesKansas City is 5-1 straight up in its last six gamesThe total has gone over in four of Kansas City’s last six gamesKansas City is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games at homeKansas City is 5-1 straight up in its last six games at homeThe total has gone under in six of Kansas City’s last seven games at homeKansas City is 2-4 against the spread in its last six games when playing CincinnatiKansas City is 1-5 straight up in its last six games when playing CincinnatiThe total has gone under in eight of Kansas City’s last 10 games when playing CincinnatiKansas City is 6-3 straight up in its last nine games when playing at home against CincinnatiThe total has gone under in five of Kansas City’s last six games when playing at home against CincinnatiExperts picksFox Sports projects a 21-24.4 point loss for CincinnatiAll 10 of ESPN’s experts picked the ChiefsOnly one of SB Nation’s seven experts picked the Bengals to upset the ChiefsNone of CBS Sports’ eight experts sided with CincinnatiNFL Pick Watch, which takes into account picks from around the web, has 97 percent of the picks being in favor of Kansas CityClearly Rodney Anderson Jersey Womens , the Bengals are viewed as pretty big underdogs. They are going to be going up against arguably the best team in the AFC on primetime in their stadium that is renown for being an incredibly hard place for visitors to play in.This game is a second chance for the Bengals to show that they belong in the conversation for the top AFC teams, and that they aren’t a team that is going to just make a Wild Card appearance at best. As we all know by now, the rule change was in response to the NFC Championship game, in which (now Lions) receiver Tommylee Lewis was blasted by a Rams defender before the ball got there, but no penalty was called. Under the new rule, that play would be reviewable by coaches—although the play happened within the last two minutes of the game, so it would have to be a booth review in this specific situation. This rule is bound to make a huge impact on the game, and many fans seem to be happy that one of the more frustrating penalties is now subject to review. So today’s Question of the Day is:Do you approve of the NFL’s decision to make pass interference reviewable. My answer: No. HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO.I’ve already spoken about this in length, and if you want to read my full argument about this topic, you can read it here. Here’s my short version. Making a call that is subjective and far from black-and-white is both a waste of time and a slippery slope. You can slow down anything upon replay and make it look like whatever you want. Sure, replay may fix obvious situations like the one in the NFC Championship game http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-anthony-zettel-jersey , but how often do those kind of blatant mistakes actually happen? Now compare that to situations in which it might be pass interference, but it’s hard to tell if it’s just handfighting or other situations in which both players were guilty of it. Regardless, we’re going to see an increase in reviews because wide receivers are going to come screaming to their head coaches on every other play. And coaches are going to challenge pass interference plays more because the reward is potentially so high given that it’s a spot foul. That’s going to result in one of two things: either an increased in pass interference calls or an increase in wasted challenges. Either result, in my opinion, is bad. Pass interference is the most impactful penalty in the game, given that it is a spot foul. So more PI calls means that the refs will have more influence over the game—something I’m sure we can all agree is a bad thing. And no one wants more challenges in the game to slow things down. In 2017, there were only 182 coaches challenges—or an average 0.71 per game (0.36 per team per game). It’s hard to imagine that number will stay anywhere near that low now that pass interference is reviewable. I hate this rule.

When it comes to buying into a new system and the players the team has brought in, it should come as no surprise that Price is at the forefront of the transition.“It sets an attitude in this new evolution of offense that we’re running now. You gotta start with it up front,” Price told Bengals.com. “We’ve got veteran guys from [Clint] Boling to Cordy Glenn. Everybody who has really helped us young guys to step up to what this philosophy is going to be with this scheme, and how we are going to attack these things. I think it is going to be really great for us. Especially with what we did in the draft, I think it is going to really help.”You can certainly see there is a notable change in the mindset of the offensive linemen compared to last year. It seems like plenty of it has to do with them learning this new offense that Taylor has brought with him. Draft picks Jonah Williams and Michael Jordan and free agency signee John Miller provide needed competition to the right guard and tackle spot http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-malik-jefferson-jersey , but Price also cites one more thing as a driving force for the upcoming season.“I think we need to continue to gain that respect. We finished last in the AFC [North] last year. There was a lot of meat still left on the bone, if you want to call it that. So we have a lot of good things going forward. A lot of guys are really excited for what we are doing in this offense, and how to attack these defenses in the upcoming year.”The players are clearly eating up what this new staff is selling. Hopefully it ends up having an impact on their performance next season. Last year, it was clear the offensive line was more than a couple acquisitions away from being back to an acceptable offensive line.Players like Bobby Hart and Alex Redmond on the right side had major inconsistencies that dragged down the whole unit. You could also say Glenn was a disappointment considering the Bengals moved down in the first round to acquire him. There were still times when they were all able to put it together, but the additions and change in coaching shows that it still wasn’t good enough. If the Bengals’ offensive line wants to gain respect, then one of the easiest ways is too be more consistent with their good plays. A way to do that is focus on the running game to open up the passing game. Something Price is excited the new coaching staff is emphasizing. “As coach [Zac] Taylor and coach [Jim] Turner always talk about, it is the marriage of the pass and the run. You really got to set up the run, so you can hit those deep shots in the passing game. So I know he is really excited about it Carlos Dunlap Jersey , and I know we’re going to make sure we get after it.”It is pretty obvious that Price fits into the intangible aspect of Taylor’s new era of Bengals. He will likely be one of this team’s leaders going forwards just from the way he can command a room. Fans are also hoping that this new offense fairs better than the one former-Bengals’ offensive coordinator Bill Lazor brought in last season. From what Price is saying, it seems like fans at least have a chance to be excited about the direction of the offensive line. Geoff Hobson marches to his own tune as he has the Bengals taking a linebacker not named Devin White in his latest mock draft."Mock drafts are always a peculiar thing, especially when conducted by one person. While all mock drafts are hypothetical, some mock drafts lose their sense of originality when they are done by a single person selecting for every team. It is much rarer to see a mock draft conducted by individuals for every team, but the results sometimes yield situations and scenarios that you just don’t get from individuals doing the whole things themselves. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but it is nice to break up the monotony. That is what Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com did recently when he participated in a mock draft where he only picked for the Bengals and used picks from various analysts and team reporters for the top 10 picks. The results landed a Devin you probably weren’t expecting in Bengal’s stripes. It should be noted that previously Hobson had Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins going at 11, and he passed him up here. At the time, Hobson noted the Bengals had one of the league’s worst run defenses Womens Bobby Hart Jersey , so Wilkins would help with that. Even then you could make the argument that adding a defensive tackle wouldn’t fix the bigger issue with linebackers looking as incompetent as they did.It seems Hobson has at least started entertaining that reality by picking Bush. The Michigan product isn’t really viewed as a top-tier player in this draft, but he would indeed fill a huge need. He may not come in and be as great as many expect Devin White out of LSU to be, but he still has the potential to be a very good linebacker in the league if he keeps progressing in pass coverage. The real thing he has that the Bengals have been sorely missing from their linebackers is athleticism. Cincinnati has prioritized sure-tacklers in the recent drafts, but the NFL has evolved past that. Gone are the days where you could get by with a linebacker who can’t cover. Offensive coordinators have easy ways to isolate their speedy running backs, athletic tight ends and even receivers on to linebackers in just about every coverage and formation. You need linebackers in today’s NFL who can play sideline-to-sideline and cover between the numbers. If you don’t have them, your defense is bound to get picked apart pretty quickly. In this mock Hobson didn’t simulate any trades, and this pretty much shows the worst case scenario for Cincinnati. White was taken by the Lions at eight, Jawaan Taylor followed him by being selected ninth overall by the Bills and there was only one quarterback taken in the top 10.The other player at a position of need Cincinnati should probably consider would have to beCody Ford out of Oklahoma to sure up the right tackle position. He has even started to be projected in the top 10 as his stock seems to be on the rise. If Cincinnati was open to defensive linemen Womens Sam Hubbard Jersey , they’d have their choice of Ed Oliver, Clelin Ferrell or Wilkins. They’d even have their choice of the second quarterback in the draft, whoever that may be for them.It isn’t that Bush would be a bad pick, but if this particular situation came where Cincinnati was sitting there wanting a linebacker without White around, they should trade back for whoever wants their choice at quarterback. The Dolphins (pick 13) and Washington (pick 15) would likely be bidding to get their quarterback of the future. Cincinnati would also likely still end up with the chance to take Bush in the teens while adding some ammo to help fill out the roster in Zac Taylor’s image.

There are ads during the show so I can buy one kombucha and one hunk of cheese a week. The show will no longer be recorded LIVE, but we will still have posts on Tuesday night for listener questions. The sound quality will be noticeably better. I have to actually learn how to do things instead of just calling BFD and telling him how much I miss Brandon Brooks for an hour and every Tuesday Night. I’m an audio engineer now. And SB Nation will try to add another host to the feed so they can squeeze out four episodes a week for you, the listener.

Some teams can’t kick about their kickers. Others might want to kick them off the roster after this weekend. With the rare exceptions of Indianapolis’ Adam Vinatieri and Baltimore’s Justin Tucker Marwin Evans Jersey White , there aren’t any placekickers whose place in Canton, Ohio, is a topic of discussion. Even Vinatieri and Tucker missed kicks in Week 5.For every hero with his soccer-style boots, there are flops. Graham Gano nails a career-best 63-yarder to lift Carolina past the Giants — tied for second-longest field goal in NFL history — and Greg Joseph sends a flutterball through the uprights to give Cleveland a 12-10 win over Baltimore. Meanwhile, Mason Crosby has the worst Sunday of his 12-year career with four botched field goals and a missed extra point in a 31-23 loss at Detroit.Want more? Maybe not, but here goes:—Chris Boswell missed the extra point after the Steelers‘ first touchdown, the third he’s missed this season. Boswell missed three in his previous three seasons with Pittsburgh.—Caleb Sturgis‘ PAT attempt after one Chargers touchdown bounced off the upright for his fourth miss of the season and third in the past two games. The sixth-year kicker has equaled the amount he had over three seasons in Philadelphia from 2015-17.“The extra point did bother me a little bit, but we’ll figure out what happened there,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. “He’s been kicking with a lot of confidence, so I’m not concerned about it.”—The Browns‘ Joseph clanked an extra point off the right upright, the third extra point missed by Cleveland this season. The rookie then pulled a 55-yard field goal left for the win with 5 seconds left in regulation before connecting in OT.—Tucker, the most accurate kicker in NFL history, had a 48-yard field goal attempt blocked by Cleveland rookie Denzel Ward on the final play of the first half. He made three kicks http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-oren-burks-jersey , however, proving he’s still the league’s most reliable.—Detroit’s Matt Prater missed a 55-yard field goal, badly, sending the football way right. But the strong-legged Prater is one of the best long-range kickers around and holds the record with a 64-yarder for Denver in 2013.—Cincinnati kicker Randy Bullock had a 37-yard field goal try blocked by Vincent Taylor of Miami in the second quarter. The Bengals still rallied from a 17-0 hole to win.—Cairo Santos of the Rams had a chance to tie the score at 31 in Seattle but missed a fourth-quarter extra point. He got a chance to redeem himself and did on a 39-yard field goal for the winning points.—This one is not kicker Stephen Hauschka‘s fault, and he was being celebrated later with a 46-yard field goal to lift Buffalo past Tennessee. But it was an example of the weird day kicking teams were having. The Bills botched a field goal late in the first half — either it was a blown fake or an issue getting the ball down for the kick. Holder Corey Bojorquez stood up after taking the snap and tried a short pass back to Hauschka under pressure from Brynden Trawick of the Titans.—Not to ignore the punters, Atlanta’s Matt Bosher had a kick blocked late in the third quarter when Pittsburgh’s Roosevelt Nix bulldozed in.Clearly, the most forgettable performance came from Crosby, who was crushed by it.“I don’t get this much attention unless it’s really bad or extremely good,” he said. “This one is unfortunately really bad. I’m going to have to really look at this one and this one hurts a bunch. I left a lot of points on the field for this team.“I look back and I’m thinking, in my childhood, in high school, this is definitely one of the worst ones and I’m bummed about that.”What really bums out fans is when coaches play for the field goal. It’s far worse in college, where the dependability of placekickers is shakier than Crosby was Sunday indoors at Detroit. But it infiltrates the NFL Vince Biegel Jersey White , too. And when the kickers flop consistently, they lose their jobs. And like Hauschka and Santos and Sturgis and Bullock, they somehow pop up elsewhere. Until they start missing again.___ When injuries struck the Green Bay Packers at the most important position last season, head coach Mike McCarthy was either unwilling or unable to effectively manipulate his offense for Brett Hundley. Part of that failing must fall on Hundley himself, which is its own indictment of McCarthy’s coaching and evaluation of his backup quarterback. Hundley wasn’t ready for a job McCarthy said he was ready for and it cost the Packers. Now, with Randall Cobb dealing with a hamstring injury and Geronimo Allison in concussion protocol, McCarthy must acquit himself better in dealing with these key injuries. Aaron Rodgers doesn’t trust J’Mon Moore or Equanimeous St. Brown yet to contribute and rightfully so. Marquez Valdes-Scantling earned enough respect from QB1 to earn a couple targets in his first career start against Buffalo, including a beautiful 38-yard go route in the second half. But if neither Cobb nor Allison can go this week in Detroit, that basically leaves Davante Adams and Jimmy Graham as the only guys Rodgers has faith in to be where they’re supposed to be, and even the latter may not be on as solid a footing as initially believed in training camp. In short, the reporting of their instant connection may have been overstated as Rodgers has missed Graham open on a number of occasions early this season. The solution isn’t “sign Dez Bryant” no matter what Packers Twitter tells you. Moving Ty Montgomery back to receiver would present a major short-term headache and not actually solve any long-term problems for the Packers. That said, Montgomery’s versatility as a pass catcher could be exactly what this team needs with two of its top playmakers hurt.A beautiful concept, perhaps stolen borrowed from Washington turned into a huge play for Montgomery on a curl-wheel combination route. Jay Gruden dialed up a very similar scheme on the long Vernon Davis play at the end of the first half in Week 3. Montgomery has shown the ability to be a focal point of this offense Womens Demetri Goodson Jersey , both on the ground and in the passing game. Now a running back officially, his presence doesn’t have to come at the expense of the other elite playmaker in the backfield, Aaron Jones. All it would take is borrowing a little from concepts the Packers have already used before under Mike McCarthy (so keep the “McCarthy would never do this” stuff to yourself. He’s literally already done it). Back in 2014, the last time the Packers truly threatened for a Super Bowl, McCarthy loved to play Cobb in the backfield as the solo back next to Rodgers in shotgun. It worked to varying degrees of success in 2013 and he brought it back with a wrinkle for the ‘14 season. Here’s the look from the Patriots game, inarguably McCarthy’s finest game as a playcaller and designer of offense. That’s Jarrett Boykin (!) behind Rodgers with Randall Cobb offset. The Packers used this same formation often that season, only with Lacy in the backfield and Andrew Quarless as the H-back. Played traditionally with the running back and tight end, defenses stay in base with linebackers on the field instead of defensive backs. Here, the Patriots have to go to a sub-package defense with light-tackling players like Darrelle Revis in the box. That should be advantage Packers. The success or failure of the play isn’t really the point. Make the defense work, make them think, and give them looks to have in their minds. On the other hand, imagine this same formation with Jones in the backfield behind Rodgers with Montgomery offset. If this give goes to Ty, he’s a much more physical presence than Cobb and has better instincts as a running back. The offensive line didn’t do a great job of creating space for the back http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-davon-house-jersey , but that’s a flaw in execution, not design. Notice too, the safety Patrick Chung flies away from the play, concerned about Boykin on a pass fake after the handoff. That’s one less defender in an already light box. Give Donta’ Hightower credit for having this play all the way, but not all linebackers would sniff it out with ease. As noted above, the success or failure of this play is secondary to how it creates for the sister play. Here’s that same look later in the game. The Patriots defend it similarly, with sub-package defensive backs. This is a rare four receiver, one tight end set. Most teams wouldn’t cover the tight end with a linebacker as New England does, but this was Jamie Collins at his versatile peak. For most teams this same formation would likely only have one true off-ball linebacker on the field. Instead of giving the ball, the Packers run the swing to Boykin, which works well enough. Remember how we didn’t care about the success of the first play? It’s not about the handful of yards Cobb got running it. That was to set this up. With a more explosive player making this catch, the Packers might really have something. Look how the linebackers react to the initial run fake: they fly to Cobb, leaving the sideline wide open. Boykin only manages six yards Womens Tramon Williams Jersey , but the plays is designed to get the two blocks on the edge with the receiver 1-on-1 with a safety if he’s not fooled by the run fake. Imagine if that is Aaron Jones rather than Boykin. And that’s where this formation creates so many advantages for the Packers. If a defense chooses to play Green Bay out of traditional defensive personnel, Jones is now on the edge 1-on-1 with a linebacker, assuming he can even get over the sideline to be in position to make a play. If they play a lighter personnel grouping, the Packers have a clear advantage running the ball. This same set of concepts might actually work even better with two running backs, because teams are likely to keep their linebackers on the field, robbing them of speed to the edge. One of the reasons the Patriots defended this so well was the extra DB on the field. Cobb and Boykin are two true receivers. Jones and Monty are true running backs. Green Bay wouldn’t have to run this specific play with its two best backs, but this is an example of how dynamic such a pairing could be. They don’t have to just go run the same offense with rookies at receiver. McCarthy already has the institutional talent, both scheme and personnel, to makeup for any losses at receiver.

It’s one thing to say, “This defense needs an edge rusher” or “This receiving corps needs help”, but it’s an entirely new challenge to put yourself in the minds of their coaches to determine what kinds of edge rushers they like and what types of receivers they really need. Scheme matters.Philosophy matters. Most importantly, history matters. So for this week’s “Film Room” episode, I decided to look at all three of those things- scheme, philosophy Martinas Rankin Jersey White , and history -for the new Arizona Cardinals coaching staff to determine exactly what kind of quarterback this franchise really needs to be successful. What I found out, interestingly enough, affects the Texans just as much as any other ball club in the league. To put it bluntly - the NFL has been ripping off Kliff Kingsbury and the rest of the Air Raid coaching tree for far longer than I, or maybe anyone, anticipated. New England, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Kansas City - you name any elite offense over the last decade or so Julien Davenport Jersey White , and you’ll likely find a ton of Air Raid concepts that make up large parts of their passing games. In fact, it’s a movement out of college football that came on so slowly over a long period of time that by the time I recognized it was even happening, it was already nearly at its peak.Curious to find out more? Check out the episode below and let me know what you think in the comments! I will issue one minor spoiler alert, though - if you’re a Texas fan...some of the plays that I broke down may be rather...let’s say, disheartening. Just a fair warning. This year, under Matt LaFleur, that changed. For the past several years, the Green Bay Packers opened up their minicamp practices to the fans. This year, LaFleur closed of practices. However, LaFleur has elected to stick with one notable minicamp tradition that began under former head coach Mike McCarthy: team-building day. On Wednesday, the Packers announced that they would skip practice on Thursday, the final day of minicamp, holding team-building activities instead. Technically Womens Lane Taylor Jersey , the Packers did their team-building day during OTAs a year ago, but that was in part due to the veterans being excused from minicamp. What the Packers will do on Thursday is unknown at this point. Past events have included a dodgeball tournament, skeet-shooting outings, and bowling, but all of these activities have been welcomed warmly by those participating. With LaFleur trying to install a new offense, there was little chance that veterans would get the opportunity to skip minicamp. Each and every week of practice is important for the starters and reserves alike as both groups try to absorb and put into practice the finer points of the new scheme. This may also be why LaFleur elected to close off practices to the public — with the team installing numerous new concepts, it’s reasonable to expect that he wanted to keep those install periods away from prying eyes. But for now, the Packers will have a little fun on their final day before they take a six-week break for the summer. The Packers will report to training camp on July 24th, with the first practice taking place on the 25th. We shared our very early draft crushes way back in January. But for every player we love, there’s another that terrifies us, someone we’d hate to see the Packers draft. Here is our list of those players. Who’s on yours?Matub - DK Metcalf - WR http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-clay-matthews-jersey , MississippiI have actually seen multiple mocks from “trusted draft gurus” that put DK Metcalf in Green Bay at pick #12. That is such a monumentally bad idea that I can’t even begin to describe the welt on my forehead from facepalming so hard. In fact, that pick is what inspired this ENTIRE walkthrough topic.DK Metcalf is the personification of the James Cameron vehicle, Avatar. He’s all flash and no substance. He’s the kind of thing you watch on a 3D RealMotion 4K UHD TV and go “Ooooooo it’s so pretty!”, but when you really stop to think about it you question why you’re even doing this in the first place. It’s been said that Avatar is just Dances With Wolves with some good CGI.DK Metcalf is a freak athlete who can run 4 simple routes and wins by being bigger, faster, and stronger than the guy in front of him.Maybe I should change my answer to Dances With Janis.Evan “Tex” Western - Either first-round off-ball linebackerThis is as much about positional value as anything else, but I do not want to see either Devin (White or Bush) become the Packers’ selection at 12 overall. Although rangy coverage linebackers are all the rage right now, I personally still subscribe to the approach that this is a position that can be filled with solid players later on. Yes, Roquan Smith had a good rookie season in Chicago last year, but second-round pick Darius Leonard was the defensive rookie of the year.If I’m drafting in the top half of round one, I’d much rather have a starting-caliber offensive or defensive tackle or pass rusher than an off-ball linebacker. Plus Geronimo Allison Jersey , I’m still a believer in Oren Burks, and I expect to see him take a significant step forward in 2019.Fundamentally, I think both White and Bush will be good NFL players. In a vacuum, I think I even prefer Bush over White. But I don’t think that either one is worthy of a top-15 pick. If the top options in the trenches are all gone, I’d much rather see the Packers trade back from 12 than take either of these players.Jon Meerdink - Parris Campbell - WR, Ohio StateAfter previously writing about how excited I was to watch Parris Campbell at the Combine, I must now add that the idea of drafting him early scares me. A 4.31 time in the 40-yard dash is blisteringly fast, but he was largely a gadget player in Columbus. And to be fair, he was an effective one! But I’m wary of a player whose scouting report quickly focuses on his special teams acumen as a way of offsetting any concerns about his potential as a first-round bust. Ohio State fans may always have Par(r)is, but I hope the Packers never do.Paul Noonan - Jachai Polite - EDGE, FloridaHe of the bizarre combine interviews and 1.77 RAShttps://relativeathleticscores.com/2019/03/15/2019-draft-class-ras/In addition to those red flags Kevin King Jersey White , he also has a spotty injury history, and he was once removed from the starting lineup at Florida because he “failed to meet the Gator standard,” which, let’s be honest, can’t really be that high. Polite may be talented and come from a bigtime college program, but his utter failure during his athletic testing didn’t just call into question his athleticism, as that lack of preparation gives additional support to the notion that he has makeup issues. Maybe he’ll blow everyone away and those red flags won’t mean much, as was the case for JAmes’ Cameron’s Titanic, which was a allegedly a troubled production until it made a billion dollars and ran in theaters for a year. But I’m guessing Polite is more Waterworld, and less Titanic.Wait, that metaphor is super confusing. Shawn Wagner - Drew Lock - QB http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-quinten-rollins-jersey , MissouriI agree with all of the players listed above, so without being a copycat, I’m going to go with Drew Lock.I’m leery about all of the quarterbacks in this particular draft for various reasons, especially when rumors begin that Green Bay is interested. Lock’s build and arm strength are there for him to be a solid NFL quarterback, but we have seen many times that those traits are not all that is needed for the next level. Accuracy is integral to being a starting quarterback and Lock’s issues in this area cannot be overlooked. Neither can his issues against SEC opponents. Lock feasted on early-season matchups against smaller programs and that worry about production against the big boys lingers despite his years of experience under center at Missouri.I really don’t want to see Green Bay select a quarterback with any of their first three picks, and Lock would make me especially nervous this year.
