Seahawks on tape: Simeon Thomas Scouting Report For the past two years Tyler Lockett Jersey , I’ve scouted for the Inside the Pylon Draft Guide. Led by Dan Hatman, who has thorough experience in NFL Front Offices, the guide has introduced me to a plethora of prospects. In 2017 I reported on running backs and defensive backs. This year, I focused solely on defensive backs. One player I scouted for the 2018 product was Seattle’s most recent addition to their roster—Simeon Thomas. In the pre-draft process, Thomas screamed Seahawks. At 6ft 4, 190lbs with 35” arms, at his pro-day he jumped 39” vertically and ran a 4.46 seconds forty-yard dash. Furthermore, the scheme he played in was one which would ease his transition to Seattle as it contained elements of their scheme. Thomas had reportedly visited the Seahawks prior to this year’s NFL Draft. Pete Carroll’s tantalizing draft clues even hinted at selecting Thomas, before the Cleveland Browns decided to take him at Round 6, Pick 14.Now released by the Browns, Thomas has been claimed off waivers by Seattle.Below is my scouting report on the man who will compete for the Cornerback #2 position. Missed the first nine games of his redshirt sophomore season due to academic ineligibility. Redshirted his sophomore year. Freshman year he missed the game against Akron due to “lack of practice preparation.” Has two brothers and one sister. Cousin, Marvin Bracy, was a two-time All-USA high school track and field team selection, is a three-time U.S. national champion in the 60-meter dash, and played football at FSU. Medical History: None of significance.Scheme Fit: An incredibly long corner with a 4.47 forty, Thomas suits a step-kick press Cover 1 and Cover 3 scheme similar to that of the Seattle Seahawks, where he can hold receivers at the line, half turn and bail downfield. He can then use his length to squeeze receivers to the sideline or the deep middle safety, and play the ball downfield.Positives: Length and HeightJam Strength Willingness to be PhysicalRun SupportNegatives:Open-Field TacklingTransitional BalanceHalf-Turn FootworkGuessing on RoutesIntermediate Zone Route DisruptionPlay-Making Instincts1-Year Projection: Thomas is a very raw player technique wise Authentic Frank Clark Jersey , but his willingness to be physical and his ability taking on blockers makes him a potential special teams contributor. 3-Year Projection: After two years of learning the technique of the team that drafts him, such as being consistently good in press, Thomas can be a functional starter. His lack of play-making instincts will limit his ceiling.Summary: Spent time at both right and left corner, often playing on the boundary side and rotating in and out of most games. Utilized various techniques, such as a half turn and shuffle rather than a backpedal, plus a kick-step and buzz-step press. Mainly played off-man coverage with a 5-to-7-yard cushion, head-up press, or quarters with a strong inside shade. Excellent measurements for a corner: massively long with huge wingspan and tall height. The Good (Good < Very Good < Excellent < Rare):Excellent jam strength from press. In both press-man and press quarters, he is very good at squeezing the receiver to the sideline on go routes with excellent physicality and subtle hand fighting. Good at adjusting his quarters zone on quarterback rollouts. Has very good closing speed potential, and even when beat he stays in step with the quickest and fastest of receivers. Very good length allows him to be a very good swatter of the football, and when in phase with the receiver he is very good at knocking passes incomplete. Good diagnosis of fake screens to his side, playing to his assignment rather than cheating. Very good appetite for contact, makes him a willing block shedder and tackler in run support. Good run fit awareness and very good approach angles in the box, approaches from outside-in rather than surrendering the last point of contain. Takes good open-field pursuit angles. Good tackling form, with head out of the way, his shoulder making the contact and good wrap. His length helps him tackle through stiff arms. Very good block shedder, fulling extends arms, attacks downhill and does so violently. Very good play strength, his length helps him make contact with opponents first when taking on blocks and he hits from a sunken position, which allows him to knock offensive players over. The Bad (Marginal < Adequate < Solid):Needs to move better with his jam, he got caught lunging in which caused struggles running downfield and receivers using his momentum against him. Focusing on one technique at the next level will benefit him, Louisiana-Lafayette appeared to have a mishmash of techniques/teachings. Oversteps with receiver’s jab steps when trying to mirror them at the line of scrimmage. Only a solid buzz step, with the steps varying in length and his body height going “jerky”—needs to stay at a low height rather than bobbing up and down. Adequate half turn technique and footwork, often crossing his feet. As a result he gets caught on the back of his feet and is unable to maintain the cushion, seeing faster receivers burn past him before he can even get close to transitioning. It also forces him to take additional, added steps that reduce his ability to break on balls underneath or stuff like deep outs or comebacks in off-man. Click-and-close is also slowed by getting too upright in his shuffle, reducing his ability to explode. Adequate transitional balance Youth Will Dissly Jersey , with adequate, rigid, and high hips often seeing him stumble and/or lose a lot of speed when flipping his hips to run downfield with receiver. This allows the receiver to get on top of him. His high hips also make his speed turn very cumbersome and essentially a recipe for getting burnt. His squeezing of receivers to the sideline appeared far more inconsistent in 2017. In intermediate zones such as hook-curl, possesses adequate awareness of receivers, lets them pass through his zone without disrupting them. Also loses the location of receivers when the route goes in behind him. Adequate deep zone positioning and keys, struggles to read from #1 to #2 and bisect two vertical routes in his deep zone. Adequate zone eye discipline, keeps eyes on the QB and allows receivers in behind his deep quarter. Adequate eye discipline and patience in man coverage, glances back at the quarterback rather than keeping his attention on the receiver during short and intermediate routes, which naturally affects and reduces his reaction times to receivers’ cuts. His eye discipline is adequate with motion into the backfield, such as orbit. Gets caught peeking which slows his reaction to the snap. When he does react fast to routes, it is often because he guesses in his route diagnosis rather than correctly identifying the pattern. This causes issues on double moves but also with not staying square to the line of scrimmage in press when the receiver has not clearly declared—locks his hips and gives the receiver an open path. This is not so much of an issue when the receiver releases outside, but inside it is a massive flaw. For instance, on the goalline he guesses on the fade, allowing the slant inside of him. Adequate timing of reaching in to play the ball when not in phase with receiver on over the shoulder catches, needs to read the eyes of the receiver. He is slow to adjust and play the ball in mid-air. Also mistimes his jumps to play the ball when in intermediate zones. Adequate playmaker—he is keen to play the receiver rather than the ball and missed numerous interception chances, some of which were gifted to him. Adequate hands, with the radii often too wide, allowing the ball to hit one hand or go right through them. On the rare occasions where a blocker does get arms on him first, he is an adequate dis-engager who needs a move and plan to rid him of the arms—be it a club, swim etc. When taking on blocks he needs to learn the right moment to disengage and not get sucked into the blocker for too long. Solid open-field tackling, often fails to break down and gets left in the dirt by a move. Only solid competitive toughness, at times he rallied to the ball and other times, notably when down in games, he lacked hustle. Highlight TapeEvaluating a player based on highlights is a terrible process. However, it is an effective way to gain an idea of their style of play:Fit in SeattleThomas is immediately behind the rest of the competition due to his late arrival. He must learn the Seahawks’ cornerback technique, which is going to be especially hard in-season. Playing catch-up will be hard, but he has the athletic tools to make it work. (Just note the scheme fit section of my scouting report) However http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-michael-dickson-jersey , Thomas’ lack of ball skills is a major concern. This is a list of the things that are true about the 2017-2018 Seattle Seahawks, a team that just clinched another playoff berth:All-Pro strong safety Kam Chancellor was injured last season and has been unable to play since. The team signed him to a lucrative contract extension prior to that, which is taking up a significant amount of their cap space in 2018.The team fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and replaced him with Brian Schottenheimer. The first move was applauded by many, the second move was ridiculed by most. The team fired defensive coordinator Kris Richard and replaced him with Ken Norton, Jr. The first move was probably questioned by many and surprising to say the least, while the second move involved a coach who had been fired by the Oakland Raiders, of all teams. The team replaced Tom Cable with Mike Solari. Few didn’t like this. They traded Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett for almost no return and no savings against the 2018 cap. They released All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman. All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas broke his leg in Week 4.Between Kam, Bennett, Sherman, and Thomas, the Seahawks are spending almost $28 million on those four players with virtually no production other than four games from Thomas. They also lost defensive end Cliff Avril in Week 4 of last season and never really found a replacement for him. They waived their first pick in 2017, Malik McDowell, and they’ve still never seen him play for them. They didn’t have a second round pick in 2018. Instead, they drafted running back Rashaad Penny, who has been helpful but contributed very little as a rookie. Third round pick Rasheem Green has done even less. En total, their contributions from the first round of the draft since 2017 is a little bit of Penny, their return on the second round is some poor play by Ethan Pocic, and the third round is a little bit of production from Green, a lot of starts (but mostly inconsistent-to-uninspiring play) by Shaquill Griffin, inconsistencies from Nazair Jones, not much from Delano Hill, and virtually nothing from Amara Darboh.Basically, if you took away the first, second, and third round by Seattle over the last two years, you wouldn’t change the team by much. In fact, fourth round tight end Will Dissly looked like a steal who could offset that issue but he tore his Achilles. The team also let Paul Richardson (second on the team in yards for 2017) and Jimmy Graham (third in yards Bradley McDougald Jersey , first in touchdowns) leave via free agency. Some fans lamented the lack of compensatory picks and their production could not or at least was not replaced. The team lost Sheldon Richardson in free agency with Richardson saying that their offer was a joke. Instead, they used some cap space to sign Tom Johnson and Shemar Stephen in his place, then released Johnson after Week 1. Some fans ridiculed their handling of the Richardson and/or Johnson situations, and the team has been transparent in their admission of mistakes made. Less loud are the voices of praise that the front office found Jarran Reed in the second round in 2016.As the season approached, it became apparent that number one receiver Doug Baldwin was seriously hurt and that he might not be at 100-percent at any point in the year. Baldwin had one target and zero catches in Week 1, then missed Weeks 2 and 3, before returning in Week 4. In Week 5, he had one yard on one target. He also missed Week 14.K.J. Wright was seriously hurt just before the season and has missed all but four games. His cap hit this year was $8 million. The team found a gem replacement in Mychal Kendricks. After three games he was suspended for eight games. When he returned, he broke his leg.Starting running back Chris Carson missed two games with injury.Backup running back Rashaad Penny broke his finger in the preseason and has also missed the last two games.Free agent signee, planned starting tight end Ed Dickson opened the year in NFI, missing six games.Starting cornerback Tre Flowers missed Week 2, further weakening a secondary that had lost Sherman, Jeremy Lane, and offseason signees like Dontae Johnson and Byron Maxwell.Offseason signee D.J. Fluker has missed five games.Germain Ifedi missed Week 16.Dion Jordan was expected to pick up some pass rush production and has done almost nothing.J.D. McKissic opened the year on injured reserve, unexpectedly. C.J. Prosise still couldn’t stay healthy or do anything productive.Jordan Simmons steps in as a solid replacement for Fluker, then goes right onto IR after his second start.Bobby Wagner missed Week 2.The Seahawks schedule has ended up including games against the 9-6 Cowboys, 11-4 Bears, 12-3 Rams (twice), 11-4 Chargers, 11-4 Chiefs, and 8-6-1 Vikings. All playoff teams, if Minnesota wins next week or the Eagles lose. It’s a significant amount of difficult games. The team was 0-2 after two games, 2-3 after five, and 4-5 after nine. They are also ... going to the playoffs. Again.

On Sunday the Seattle Seahawks took on the Los Angeles Rams. Each team entered the Week 10 game having lost in Week 9 Cheap Doug Baldwin Jersey , and neither wanted to be the team to leave this game with a two game losing streak. For the Rams, a win would all but secure the NFC West division, while the Seahawks wanted a win to keep the door cracked not just on seeding for a Wild Card playoff spot, but for the very slim possibility of overtaking the Rams in the West over the final two months of the season. Unfortunately for Seattle fans, it wasn’t meant to be, as there were simply too many key pieces missing for the Hawks, as Chris Carson and D.J. Fluker were both out with injury, and the defense simply could not stop the Rams high powered offense. Rookie running back Rashaad Penny looked great for the first time this season, and Tyler Lockett caught his seventh touchdown pass of the season, but it was not enough to overcome the Rams. Here’s how Twitter reacted.Late in the game things got heated between Aaron Donald and Justin Britt, and that led to some extracurricular activity not just between plays, but after the game as well. The disagreement between Donald and the Hawks linemen likely had to do with the fact that Donald did what he wanted for much of the game, finishing with 2.5 sacks and 5 hits on Russell Wilson. Now, while Donald is obviously an immense talent on the field, I can’t imagine that the league will look kindly on either his retaliation against Justin Britt late in the game, or on his post-game antics. I’d expect a fine at the very least, and a suspension seems warranted, though I’m not sure how much a suspension would actually do since over the last seven weeks of the season the Rams opponents for the remainder of the season have a combined record of 24-29. That 24-29 record is not bad, but the next game is against the 9-1 Kansas City Chiefs, so after next week the Rams’ final five games will be against teams that are a combined 15-28. In any case, it obviously wasn’t all bad, so here are some positives takeaways from the game. And another angle. In the immediate aftermath of the Seattle Seahawks loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Pete Carroll stated that it was believed that right guard Jordan Simmons had a grade 1 knee sprain Justin Britt Jersey , and that his status would be evaluated going forward. That is not a horrible diagnosis, as a player’s ability to return from or play through such an injury exists at some level. Unfortunately for the Hawks, it appears that the initial assessment of the injury may have been inaccurate. Specifically, on Monday Carroll provided an update stating that while it can not yet be categorized as a “legit” injury, it’s is a “pretty good” injury. What that means for the Seahawks is that if D.J. Fluker cannot go, they may be looking for help at right guard. Whether or not Fluker will be able to suit up on Sunday is still up in the air, but they’ll know more in the coming days. So, if neither Fluker nor Simmons are able to play, that then leaves the right guard spot to most likely fall to Ethan Pocic. However, following Pocic’s poor showing Sunday against San Francisco, if Fluker is unable to play, it is possible the team could look elsewhere for help. The most logical next choice could be practice squad guard Jordan Roos, who spent last season on the active roster, seeing mostly special teams action before playing in place of an injured Pocic against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17. If Simmons’ injury is significant enough to land him on IR, and the team decides to add outside help, there are not a lot of recognizable names available at this late juncture in the season. There are a handful, including:Jahri EvansAllen BarbreEthan CooperMatt TobinJohn JerrySkyler PhillipsEvans is a name everyone probably recognizes from his cup of coffee in Seattle in 2016 prior to his return to the New Orleans Saints that season, before spending 2017 with the Green Bay Packers. I don’t know if he’d have any interest in playing for a contender, or if he’s even in football shape, he just happens to be on this list of NFL free agents.Barbre and Tobin both kind of fall into the same boat. They have both been in the league for some time, having spent time with several different teams over the years, but neither is great. Neither is truly a fit for right guard in Mike Solari’s system, but they’re both names that have spend time with the Seahawks in recent seasons Cheap Ethan Pocic Jersey , so are at least familiar with assistant offensive line coach Pat Ruel. Next up are Jerry and Cooper. Jerry is a veteran of the league who spent the last two seasons playing for as a member of the New York Giants, and he has the size and familiarity with what Solari likes to do. Cooper was a 2017 undrafted free agent who spent most of last season on the practice squad of the Giants, so he also has experience with Solari, though at just 6’2” and 322 pounds, he doesn’t quite bring the size of a guy like Jerry, Fluker or Simmons. Last on the list is Skyler Phillips, an offensive lineman who played college football at Idaho State before signing the with Seattle as an undrafted free agent in the spring. He was waived at the end of training camp and is currently a free agent. Listed at 6’3” and 344 pounds in college, at first glance he would seem to have the size Solari likes. Unfortunately, coaches seem to tend to overstate how big their players are, and when Phillips showed up at the combine he weighed in at just 318 pounds. He did demonstrate impressive athleticism for that size (31 reps on the bench at his pro day, 104” broad and 29” vertical at the combine, while posting a 5.09 time in the 40).I’m kind of suprised he is not a member of the Oakland Raiders, or at least not on their practice squad with those measurables, but perhaps Tom Cable simply wants to wait until he’s traded Kelechi Osemele and Donald Penn in the offseason before bringing in any more of his players. Speaking of Cable and the Raiders, over the past couple of weeks Jon Gruden’s Oakland squad has found itself in a very similar situation where it is short on guards. Osemele has been battling a knee injury since early in the year which caused him to miss Weeks 5 and 6, and a more recent toe injury has kept him out of each of the last two games. Stepping in to start for Osemele in Week 14 was Jon Feliciano, a 2015 fourth round pick who has made just eight starts in his career. However, Feliciano was promptly injured in Week 14, which led the Raiders to sign Chaz Green.Green is a name that some fans may recognize from his time with the Dallas Cowboys from 2015 until 2017. A former third round pick of Dallas in 2015, Green spent the entire 2015 season inactive, and then was the swing tackle for 2016. And then 2017 happened. For those who don’t remember what happened to Green, he is the tackle who stepped at left tackle in late 2017 for an injured Tyron Smith, leading to the Adrian Clayborn debacle in Dallas. And here’s more just because I don’t like the Cowboys. Now Duane Brown Jersey , back to Cable and the Raiders, following injuries to both Osemele and Feliciano (as well as to starting right guard Gabe Jackson), the Raiders were forced to sign the aforementioned Chaz Green at the end of November. Then, nineteen days after Green was signed, he was thrust into the starting lineup where he got to face off against two time All-Pro, six time Pro Bowler Geno Atkins. The result was, in a word, predictable. I could tell you all about it, but if a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll simply put up a photo essay worth several thousand words. In the fourth quarter Atkins simply took over and began dominating Green. The first two times he took down Carr, he did so on a swim move. And then later in the fourth quarter he again used a swim move to slide right past Green. So, after recording his second sack of the game on Carr, both on swim moves, Atkins decided to use a bull rush and absolutely obliterate Green. I am fairly certain that is not proper form. So, in short, what Green couldn’t pick up in three years with the Cowboys he probably hasn’t learned in less than three weeks with the Raiders. Point is, there’s not a lot of quality options available on the free agent market, so while the thought of the Hawks having to go with Pocic or Roos at right guard may not be extremely attractive, it may be the best option available to the Hawks. Obviously, it’s only Tuesday, so we’ll have to wait and see what kind of updates we get on Fluker’s hamstring and Simmons’ knee, and until then it’s kind of wait and see. And hope.

New York Jets Coverage Stats - Preseason Week 1 Throughout the offseason New York Jets Hats , I went back and charted the Jets’ individual stats in coverage over each week of 2017 (the final numbers can be seen here). Pass coverage is one of the many phases of the game in which statistics are not readily available to aid in analysis. Of course, stats have never and will never tell the entire story. However, they always do a tremendous job of telling a huge part of it and are just another tool that can be used to help evaluate properly without bias or going simply off of blurry memories. So, I’m bringing the coverage series back as a weekly feature throughout the year! Let’s get things going with the Jets’ coverage numbers in preseason Week 1!RULESThe coverage numbers include only legitimate targets into the general area of a receiver/defender; throws in which a defender in coverage were directly involved in the outcome. Throwaways and deflections at the line are excluded. The stats for each individual are that of the quarterback’s passing numbers when targeting the individual’s matchup. A player could have an interception to his coverage credit even if the interception itself was made by a teammate. For example, if Trumaine Johnson tips a pass targeted in his direction and Morris Claiborne comes up with the interception, I would credit Johnson in my charting.I did not apply the same rule to fumbles; I will only count those if forced by the covering defender.“Miscues” (M) are included in charting to attempt to knock defenders who benefitted from an egregious error by the offense (drop, horrible throw).I charted penalties in the offseason series but will not be charting penalties for preseason since the game is being called a bit differently right now to set the tone for some new rules. Will likely bring them back as a category for the regular season.During the regular season I will return to charting the numbers in coverage against each individual opponent, but for the preseason I simply broke it down by position due to the enormous amount of players taking the field on the other side. I’ve also split slot receivers and outside receivers into separate positions. Here are the Jets’ numbers in coverage against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. A glossary is available at the bottom of the chart. Some notes from me:Derrick Jones lived up to the hype. He was sound in off-coverage, making well timed breaks on the ball and sticking with his matchups. His most impressive play was on a 4th & 2 goal line fade in which his physical coverage disallowed his matchup to make a play in the back corner of the end zone. The Falcons were 0-for-4 targeting him, though he benefited from one catchable drop.J.J. Wilcox laid some hard hits but struggled in coverage allowing three 10+ yard gains.Kevin Minter made a pair of good plays on the ball.Rashard Robinson was solid, broke and finished on a pair of plays short of the sticks. Not coverage-related, but two interior linemen stood out to me against the pass: Mike Pennel and Foley Fatukasi. Pennel was one the most efficient run-stuffers in the league last season, but flashed with a sack and huge hit rushing up the middle. Fatukasi did as well with a late game strip-sack and a pressure up the middle wiped out by a facemask grab. The Jets played mostly off-coverage in this game, dissimilar from the press that Bowles is likely to employ a lot during the regular season. It was an impressive display on defense, but there was no doubt that the Falcons were struggling big-time offensively with communication and poor QB play. What did you take away from the Jets in coverage? Last week, the Jets claimed edge defender Tarell Basham, a former third round pick, on waivers from the Colts. Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at his strengths and weaknesses. The 24-year old Basham is in his second season having been drafted last year. He played in 15 games last year in a reserve role and registered seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. He was the MAC defensive player of the year in 2016 and is the all-time leader in sacks for the Ohio Bobcats.BackgroundHaving been a productive pass rusher in high school, Basham attended military school for a year before attending Ohio University and making an immediate impact as a true freshman. He was eventually a four year starter for the Bobcats, racking up a school record 29.5 sacks. His production improved year on year and he won the MAC defensive player of the year award as a senior in 2016, having recorded career bests in tackles (49) and sacks (11).Basham had a decent performance at the scouting combine, but it was at the senior bowl where he really boosted his stock as he was dominant in drills all week. The Colts eventually drafted Basham with the 80th overall pick.As a rookie, Basham saw action as a rotational outside linebacker and on special teams, but struggled to move up the depth chart. He had some positive flashes, including a couple of sacks, but overall his rookie year was considered a disappointment. In the offseason New York Jets Hoodie , Basham was getting plenty of work with the first unit and seemed to be in the mix for a starting role, but a minor knee injury set him back and he got lost in the shuffle following a nondescript preseason.Basham played in the opener this season, in a situational rusher role, but he only had one pressure and had been inactive ever since. The Jets claimed him off waivers last week.Let’s move onto some more in-depth analysis of what Basham brings to the table, based on in-depth research and film study.UsageThe Colts have switched from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense this year, which is one of the reasons Henry Anderson was no longer a fit for them. However, this is not the case with Basham. In college and high school, Basham only ever played in four man fronts with his hand(s) in the dirt, so he wasn’t really a fit for them as a 3-4 outside linebacker, which explains some of his struggles last year and the optimism that he would show progress in 2018.With the Colts last year, Basham lined up on both sides and played a mixture of linebacker and lineman roles. He didn’t play inside or off the ball very often, but this did happen occasionally.Basham has also said he mostly lined up on the left in college, so playing on the right was an adjustment for him too.Measurables/AthleticismBasham is listed at 6-foot-4 and 266 pounds and has decent length and big hands. However, he might be lighter than that at the moment, because he told reporters in the offseason that he’d slimmed down from about 270 to 250 since the end of the previous year. The coaching staff praised him for getting into better shape than he had been as a rookie. At the combine, Basham had some nice numbers with a 4.7 40-yard dash, 4.45 short shuttle and 119-inch broad jump. However, his three cone drill and vertical jump were below average and his bench press was poor (15 reps).Basham worked out again at his pro day, but didn’t improve on any of his numbers, others than adding an inch to his vertical.MotorBasham is regarded as having a good motor as he works hard in the trenches to battle for position. At the NFL level, he’s yet to play 30 snaps in a game, either in preseason or regular season action, but did play over 70 snaps in a game in his senior year, so he’s shown he can handle a good workload.Run defenseBasham isn’t known for his run defense and his lack of functional strength would be a concern if playing on the line, especially with the weight he’s lost since last year.Nevertheless, he showed some development against the run in college. In his first two years, he only had two tackles for loss against the run, but he had 9.5 in his last two years. In pursuit Cheap Customized New York Jets Jerseys , Basham can sometimes overpursue or react a beat late and has had issues with not getting upfield far enough when setting the edge in the past. He also needs to work on getting off blocks. He makes a solid play against the run here as he shows some good hustle in backside pursuit.Pass rushBasham took his game to the next level in his senior year, as he almost doubled the amount of total pressure he created. However, at the NFL level, his pressure numbers have been modest at best, even in preseason action.Basham has good initial burst and converts from speed to power well. In college he showed off some good pass rush moves, strong hands and an ability to bend the edge. However, at the NFL level, he’s struggled to replicate this success. He seems too eager to engage with his blocker and doesn’t seem to exhibit many counter moves once his initial move is repelled. Of the pressure he has created, much of it has come from being unblocked or beating a tight end. However, as noted, there have been flashes of potential. On this play, against an experienced starter in Jeremy Parnell, Basham’s speed off the edge is too much for the veteran.Basham has a pretty good spin move based on his college film, but he hasn’t used this much at the NFL level.TacklingBasham hasn’t been a particularly productive tackler at the NFL level with just 18 tackles in 23 regular and preseason games. However, he racked up 49 in his best season at Ohio.Missed tackles were sometimes an issue over the years, although he will usually wrap up and finish effectively. However, he will miss the occasional tackle, especially if faced with an elusive player in space.Coverage skillsBasham doesn’t have a lot of experience of dropping into coverage and it shows whenever he’s asked to do it. On this play, a teammate had to tell him to stand up prior to the snap and he made no effort to disrupt the slot receiver’s route while looking very robotic in his backpedal. He was targeted one other time last year, on a play where he dropped way off the line on 3rd-and-long and was able to get in on the tackle shy of the marker.Basham had five passes defensed in college, all from batting passes down at the line.Making reads/instinctsBasham has said he feels most comfortable in an attack-and-react style of defense. There is occasional hesitation in play-action and read-option type situations, but it looks like he did a better job of keeping his eyes up to see the play develop as the season progressed last year.TechniqueBasham has shown some ability to get off blocks at the NFL level, but this has mostly been against tight ends. One thing he does well is extend his arms to get some separation from his blocker, but he doesn’t always translate that into a pass rush move to get off the block. On this play, however, he extends his arms well and displays some power to drive veteran Andre Smith off his spot, gaining an outside leverage advantage. This time, he does get off the block www.jetsauthorizedshops.com , using his right hand to free himself from Smith’s outside arm to complete the sack.PhysicalityBasham displays some good power off the edge and can be an effective bull rusher. However, at times, he will engage his blocker in a battle for leverage rather than making an effort to shed the block. His only penalty at the NFL level was a neutral zone infraction before a punt (on 4th-and-8).Special teamsWith Josh Martin on injured reserve, it would be useful if his replacement could show some potential on special teams and Basham has done that.In his rookie year, he had four special teams tackles in preseason and, although he didn’t carry that production over into the regular season, he did contribute this punt block.Basham has also fielded one kickoff and generated pressure on a field goal attempt.InjuriesInjuries were not an issue for Basham at Ohio, as he played in 50 games over four seasons. In his rookie year with the Colts, the only game he missed was as a healthy scratch, although he did miss a few practices through illness and heat exhaustion.During preseason, he had a minor knee injury, which was part of the reason he fell down the depth chart.Attitude/DemeanorBasham has admitted that, in college, he relied too much on his athleticism. He has found that, at the NFL level, you also need good technique and preparation to be successful.General manager Chris Ballard praised the work Basham had put in during the offseason to get in shape and work on his technique, but obviously this wasn’t enough for him to retain his roster spot.Scheme familiarityAs noted above, Basham is going to be most comfortable in four-man fronts and rushing from the left side with his hand in the dirt. With his struggles against the run, the most obvious use for him would be in subpackages as a situational rusher and that’s how the Colts used him in game one.Anderson’s own success in the new system could make him a useful sounding board for Basham as he integrates himself in the new scheme.ConclusionsBasham was an impressive college prospect with excellent tape, but has been slow to develop at the NFL level. The scheme changes in Indianapolis haven’t helped, but his main issue is that he needs to work on and improve his technique and approach. The Jets can afford to be patient with Basham, whereas the Colts were pretty deep on the edges and already have some development projects with two rookies brought in this year. Ultimately, this should be a fun project for Kevin Greene. However, it might be overly optimistic to expect any immediate success.

Jets 2018 Roster Countdown: Number 62 Antonio Garcia We now move to Antonio Garcia in our Jets roster countdown.Name: Antonio GarciaNumber: 62Year with Jets: 1stProjected Role: Project tackleHis 2017: Garcia was a third round pick by New England but did not play a snap. He was placed on the Non-Football Injury List due to blood clots and missed the entire season. Even though he was medically cleared to play the Patriots cut him Youth Leonard Williams Jersey , and the Jets picked him up.2018 will be a success if: Garcia is able to get into football shape, stay healthy, and develop his game. I don’t think the Jets will count on him to do much. 2017 was to be a developmental year, and he missed that. He is playing catchup. Finding him was essentially a bonus third round pick.Odds of making the roster: Based on his Draft pedigree, my guess is the Jets would struggle to get him through waivers and onto the practice squad even if they weren’t inclined to keep him, which I think they are. I say he is Probable (75-99%). I knew the Jets offensive line had a bad game against Jacksonville, as expected considering the absurdly talented defensive front they were competing against. However, it did not occur to me while watching the game live that the line was as terrible as they turned out to look when rewatching the tape. This was an atrocious outing - in my opinion, the third consecutive week they have regressed. And, this was the largest regression.Let’s dive in!Previous editions: Pre 1, Pre 2, Pre 3, Pre 4 Color Rush Isaiah Crowell Jersey , W1-DET, W2-MIA, W3-CLEAs I will always mention, it is impossible to capture everything with the stats, but with this series I hope to capture the most impactful plays accumulated by each linemen, both positive and negative, to help better our perspective on their production levels. Every single snap does matter, and here we will only be grading a small portion of those snaps, but this data can still help shape our opinions on players more properly and truly. Do not use these numbers as final judgement, but as useful evidence. Here’s what I’ve been tracking:Stuffs (runs for 2 yards or less and no first down) allowed in the run gameRushing first downs assisted“Setup runs” assisted (which I now define as a 5+ yard pickup on 1st-3rd down that did not result in a first down). Despite not resulting in a first down, these kinds of pickups are still positive plays that deserve to be tracked.Sacks allowedQB hits allowedQB pressures allowed (pressure counts now include all throws affected by pressure, forced rollouts/dodged defenders, and forced throwaways)Deflections allowed (occurrences when allowing the currently engaged defender to bat/deflect a pass at the line)Open field assists (blocking assists for significant extra yardage/first down by any player Color Rush Kelvin Beachum Jersey , OL or skill position, in the pass game while a pass receiver has the football)Pass blocking snaps (UPDATE: Pass blocking snaps now counted for all players rather than just the base five linemen. Team pass attempts + sacks)Penalties (Total accepted, yards, first downs/scores wiped out, and declined)Here are the numbers for the Jets in Week 4! Shield your eyes! Some of my takeaways:It all fell apart for Brandon Shell. While his first three games were on the whole very solid, he was walking on thin ice over the past two weeks, allowing 3 pressures in each game without being tagged for any sacks or hits. The walls finally caved in. Shell played the worst game of any lineman this season. He was getting abused on the edge by Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue. I tagged Shell for a sack, a hit, and a whopping 6 pressures, for a total of 8 pressures that is the most I’ve tagged a Jet for in a single game throughout the entire preseason and the first quarter of the regular season.Fowler and Ngakoue were getting it done in all sorts of ways against Shell - inside, outside, speed power. In particular, Shell was absolutely decimated by the inside spin move Youth Darron Lee Jersey , especially by Fowler. It was quite a fall for Shell. He had Sam running for his life all game. The entire line struggled. All in all, by my count, they allowed 21 total pressures across 37 official Darnold dropbacks. That’s a horrifyingly terrible rate of pressure, regardless of who the opponent is. The only Jet lineman to allow less than 2 pressures was Spencer Long, who gave up an awful sack on a missed stunt. The Jets barely bothered to run the ball, making only 14 attempts, tied for the 7th lowest total on the season through four weeks. When they did, it was ineffective, as they ran for only 2.4 yards per carry and compiled a ghastly 9:1 stuff-to-first down ratio. Long continues to be boom-or-bust (with more bust so far) in this phase of the game while Brian Winters is simply becoming a major liability. To this point, the Jets are the only team in the league with 2 games in which they averaged less than 2.5 yards per carry.Shoutout to Chris Herndon and Jordan Leggett. I decided to start tallying pass protection snaps for skill position players, and it turns out Herndon has had a perfectly clean 11 pass pro reps so far. Solid start in that phase for him despite his shaky run blocking. As for Leggett, the opposite is true. He hasn’t played a role in pass protection, but I now have him at 4 rushing assists and 0 stuffs allowed so far.FILMI’m not going to say a whole lot about this first clip http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/eric-tomlinson-jersey , other than that it is a perfect microcosm of the offensive line’s performance in this game. You saw Brandon Shell get pummeled in the clip above, luckily Dante Fowler tripped and could not create any pressure. Let’s focus a bit more on Shell, who as mentioned had a monstrosity of a game. Here, Shell gets too high against Ngakoue and allows him to easily rip through and dip underneath to get the hit on Darnold. This time, Ngakoue picks up a sack against Shell. Again lined up out wide as the 9-technique, this time Ngakoue powers right through Shell as he gets his hips extremely low to the ground, gets beneath the pads of Shell, and engages with a powerful first punch. The power game has always been Shell’s weakness due to an inability to generate power from the lower body up and drive defenders. Just a sheer speed/power win from Ngakoue. On a positive note, Ngakoue tried this same move again a few times later in the game and Shell was better prepared for it. He makes strong first contact this time, then gets underneath and showcases good balance to hold off Ngakoue’s power. Here we’ll wrap up with Shell and transition into the next issue I’d like to discuss: the Jets cannot stop stunts for anything. With the Shell, you can see him toasted by Dante Fowler with the inside spin move I mentioned earlier. Fowler beat him with this a trio of times. On the inside, Spencer Long has zero feel for the stunt as Malik Jackson flies through for a free sack. Back-to-back games allowing a sack for Long.Another pressure on a stunt as Darnold is forced to throw it away. This time it’s on the right side against Shell and Winters. Abry Jones attacks the B gap eating up both as Dante Fowler runs free up the middle. The Jags also stunted on the left side but the Jets pick it up with 3 blockers against 2 rushers. Here, the Jags run the same exact stunt on the offense’s right side. Winters picks it up correctly.Kelvin Beachum wasn’t off the hook in this game Authentic Bilal Powell Jersey , allowing three pressures of his own. This one is about as bad as it gets without any contact. It’s reminiscent of a Manu Ginobili eurostep. Yannick Ngakoue just gives one jab outside and is able to easily force Darnold outside of the pocket with a free lane inside. Money throw by Darnold, by the way. It’s fitting that the Jets allowed a safety in this game. I’m indifferent to this play call as the Jets run an outside zone this far backed up. Brian Winters immediately hits the second level and lets the defensive tackle (#99 Marcell Dareus) leak into the backfield. It could be a personal blunder but I think this just might be his assignment on this play, which obviously doesn’t make sense. The main culprit is Kelvin Beachum who lets Calais Campbell shoot the gap effortlessly. Poor blocking but a great play by a 6’8 man who is not supposed to be able to move like that.Isaiah Crowell has had an appalling past couple of games in pass protection, allowing 3 pressures and a sack on his past 4 pass blocking snaps. That’s more total pressures allowed in two games than I’ve tagged the rest of the Jets skill position players for throughout the entire season combined. This effort is embarrassing. There is literally nothing on display here that any coach would ever teach a running back to do while pass protecting. The Jets are going to continue to be one of the league’s worst rushing teams (they are 26th in yards per game and yards per attempt) if their interior linemen keep getting blown off the ball like Winters does in the first clip and Long in the second. To finish on a positive note, I’m becoming very impressed with Jordan Leggett’s blocking ability, which is a stunner. He scored his first career touchdown against the Jaguars, but perhaps more notable was his key block on Calais Campbell to facilitate the Jets’ only rushing first down of the game. I featured him last week assisting with a block on Myles Garrett. The Jets did not even use an extra blocker for most of this game, while they consistently were beaten by 4-man rushes. I counted the Jets as using an extra blocker on only 5 snaps, and they still yielded pressure on 4 of those. If your offensive line can’t keep the quarterback clean when it has the man advantage, that’s just another overarching issue, but I thought the Jets should have given Sam Darnold more protection in this game. This was the least they’ve used their backs and tight ends in pass protection, against an otherworldly front they were getting owned by. That was a bit of a head-scratcher.Here is how the Jets are stacking up through one quarter of the year!

Following a bye week Jacksonville Jaguars Hats , and less than stellar start to the first half of the season, the Jacksonville Jaguarshit the road to take on the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday. This is a must-win game for Jacksonville to keep its slim AFC South title hopes alive. Hopefully the Jaguars were able to use the bye week to correct the on-the-field issues that were plaguing the team, as well as try to get the team chemistry and morale up. Jacksonville is basically in survival mode from here on out, and cannot afford to lose if it wants to make it back to the postseason. It’s time to get back to our weekly history lessons. Let’s recap the head-to-head series between the Colts and Jaguars. Series historyAll-time regular season series record: Colts lead 22-12Last Jaguars win: Dec. 3, 2017 (30-10)Last Colts win: Jan. 1 2017 (24-20)Current Streak: Jags with a two-game winning streakBiggest Jaguars win: 51-16 (Dec. 13, 2015)Biggest Colts win: 43-14 (Sept. 25, 2000)Interesting takeaway: Jacksonville swept Indianapolis last year, and that was just the second occurence ever that the Jaguars were able to win both games against the Colts in the same season (2011-2012 season was the first time). Quick thoughts: The Jaguars have defeated the Colts in four of the past five contests, but Indianapolis had won all six games prior to that. Looking at the full history, the Jags and Colts only met twice prior to the conference realignment in 2002. Indianapolis (AFC East), beat Jacksonville (AFC Central), in both of those contests. Then the Colts won the next three games while both teams began competition in the AFC South. Jacksonville finally got its first win against Indy in 2003, and another one the next season in 2004. The Colts hold a large advantage overall, but the series is tied at seven wins a piece since 2011. Previous MatchupWinner: JaguarsScore: 30-10Date: Dec. 3 Jacksonville Jaguars Womens Hoodie , 2017Location: EverBank Field, JacksonvilleTeam Stats: Jaguars — 338 passing yards, 96 rushing yards, 22 first downsColts — 174 passing yards, 141 rushing yards, 17 first downsQuick recap: Blake Bortles tends to beat up on the Colts, and he did so twice in 2017. On this particular day, Bortles completed 74 percent of passes for 309 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers. Leonard Fournette added a touchdown, and Josh Lambo tacked on a couple of field goals. A lot of wide receivers got involved with Marqise Lee securing seven catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Keelan Cole had 49 receiving yards and a score, and Dede Westbrook added six catches for 78 yards. The defense had a strong performance with four sacks and two interceptions. Brad Nortman even completed a pass. It was a great all-around performance — man, I miss 2017.Prior MatchupWinner: JaguarsScore: 27-0Date: Oct. 22, 2017Location: Lucas Oil Stadium Womens Customized Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys , Indianapolis Team Stats: Jaguars — 330 passing yards, 188 rushing yards, 23 first downsColts — 200 passing yards, 96 rushing yards, 15 first downsQuick recap: Even without Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars rushed for 188 yards on the legs of T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory. This was another strong performance from Blake Bortles, who had 330 passing yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions and a quarterback rating of 124.7. The defense was incredible, sacking Jacoby Brissett 10 times and holding Indianapolis to just 232 total yards. This was also Josh Lambo’s first game as a Jaguar, and the kicking game concerns from the previous weeks of that season were quickly put to rest as he made all of his extra point and field goal attempts. This was pure domination by Jacksonville, and the end result was the Jaguars’ first shutout win since 2006. Through the Decades1990s: Colts 1-0 (1995)2000-2010: Colts lead 14-52011-Present: Tied 7-7Quick thoughts: While the Colts dominated early, winning eight of the first 10 matchups overall, it is the Jaguars that have been making a comeback. The Colts held the advantage in the 1990s (granted www.jaguarscheapstore.com , that was only one game in Jacksonville’s first year as a competing NFL franchise) and early 2000s, but Jacksonville has closed the gap. As mentioned earlier, the series is tied with seven wins each since 2011, and since 2008, Indy’s advantage is just 11-9. Indianapolis easily dominated from 2000 through 2010, which gives them the lopsided advantage in the series overall. But perhaps times are changing. This year’s matchup is an important game for both teams currently sitting at 3-5 and looking to make a run after an unspectacular start. The Colts have won two in a row and are humming on offense, but their defense leaves a lot to be desired. Meanwhile, the Jags have struggled with giving the ball away, lack of protection and lack of a run game on offense, while the defense has not made enough of the necessary big plays (turnovers, sacks, etc.) to mitigate the offense’s ineptitude. Something has to change this week, and I think it does. The Jags get the big divisional win on the road. Which team do you believe walks away victorious in this AFC South battle? Jalen Ramsey not as talkative amid Jaguars’ struggles on defenseThe Jaguars defense has struggled in recent weeks and according to ESPN’s Mike DiRocco it has caused the most talkative member of the team to tone down his press conferences and throw a little less heat in his post-practice sound bytes. “Ramsey’s longest answer Thursday was in response to a query about his thoughts regarding this weekend’s matchup with Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins at TIAA Bank Field,” writes DiRocco.Doug Marrone: Will take hard work to fix problems; there’s no ‘magic pill’When Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone was asked about the Jaguars’ recent struggles Jacksonville Jaguars T-Shirt , he was quick to hold himself accountable for the mistakes but also just as quick to remind us that the road back to consistent success on the field is not one that can be finished overnight. “There is no magic pill or magic moment that you can just snap your fingers and go,” Marrone said. “The only way to start playing better is you have to work your ass off. You have to work hard. You have to go back there. You have to coach better. We have to play better. I have to do a better job. That is how simple it is.”Jaguars fans think we’re losing to the Texans this weekWith Bad Blake Bortles in effect, there shouldn’t be a game you feel comfortable about the Jaguars winning. And it’s reflected in this recent poll by SBNation, where fans believe Jacksonville will lose by at least one point against Houston. And in other Jaguars news ...Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has withdrawn his bid to purchase Wembley Stadium in London and fans are (or should be) happy about it. It should end relocation talk, but it probably won’t.Deshaun Watson has declared himself “healthy” for the important AFC South matchup on Sunday, according to Herbie Teope of NFL.com. Watson, who is officially listed on the injury report with a chest injury, had the opportunity Wednesday to respond to a report of him playing with a partially collapsed lung and a broken rib against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5.DeAndre Hopkins was held out of practice on Thursday but it would be surprising if he wasn’t a go for this weekend. The Jacksonville Jaguars hit the practice field again on Thursday with both running back Leonard Fournette and D.J. Hayden not expected to practice. That isn’t a big surprise and I think the fact that Fournette missed practice two days in a row would lean towards him not playing. It’s not official just yet, but I’d be surprised if he missed that much.

On third-and-1, Blake Bortles hit Dede Westbrook for a short pass over the middle and Westbrook took it to the 20-yard line. Bortles was having a Good Blake day so him completing passes was probably a better way to extend the drive and wind down the clock than running it with T.J. Yeldon. But at the end of Westbrook’s catch, Jamal Adams hit him after the whistle for an unnecessary roughness penalty. 10 more yards were tacked on — first down at the 10-yard line.Instead of kneeling so close to the goal line, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett gave Yeldon the ball on first down. Yeldon runs for the one yard touchdown. And to add insult to injury, the Jaguars opted to go for two instead of the extra point.Asked after the game what he thought about the Jaguars going for two with just 25 seconds left to play and up three scores, Todd Bowles was straightforward:“I don’t tell another guy how to coach his team,” Bowles said. “If they run it, we have to defend it.”It’s the right answer — if you don’t like the other team running up the score stop them from scoring.Asked after the game if he was trying to send a message www.thejaguarsfootballauthentic.com , Doug Marrone was just as straightforward:“We’re not good enough to send a message right now.”No lead is safe in the NFL, not two touchdowns in an early season regular season game and not two touchdowns in the AFC Championship Game going into the fourth quarter. Coming off of a disappointing loss to the division rival Tennessee Titans, the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) look to rebound against the New York Jets (1-2). That means it is time to review the head-to-head history between the two franchises. The history recap is pretty intriguing this week, as these two teams aren’t extremely familiar with each other, but have met 13 times previously. It’s been a series of runs in terms of wins. Let’s break it down. Series historyAll-time regular season series record: Tied 6-6Postseason record: Jets 1-0 (1998-1999 season)Last Jaguars win: Nov. 15, 2009 (24-22)Last Jets win: Oct. 1, 2017 (23-20)Current Streak: Jets have won four straightBiggest Jaguars win: 41-0 (Oct. 8, 2006)Biggest Jets win: 32-3 (Sept. 18, 2011)Interesting takeaway: Each of the past three games Jacksonville Jaguars T-Shirt , and four of the past five games, have been decided by one score. Quick thoughts: While the series itself is very close, the two clubs seem to go on winning streaks before the other team pulls off another W. The first four meetings saw a two-to-two win split, but the Jags then won four of the following five games, and the Jets have now taken the last four meetings. So it seems to be a series of streaks, or periods of time where one team is dominating the other. The Jags will look to break New York’s current winning streak against them on Sunday.Last Matchup Winner: JetsScore: 23-20Date: Oct. 1, 2017Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New JerseyTeam Stats: Jacksonville — 140 passing yards Jacksonville Jaguars Hats , 175 rushing yards, 20 first downsNew York — 255 passing yards, 256 rushing yards, 18 first downsQuick recap: The Jaguars had no business losing this game, but did due to a poor effort from Blake Bortles, coupled with an inability to stop the run on defense. New York carved up the Jaguars on the ground with 255 rushing yards. Bortles completed just 42 percent of his passes and threw a costly pick late in the third quarter that led to a field goal for the Jets. Myles Jack breathed new life into the Jags with an 81-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Jason Myers (now a Jet) tied the game at 20 and forced overtime. The Jets eventually kicked a game-winning field goal with just 32 seconds left in the extra period.Previous Matchup: Winner: JetsScore: 28-23Date: Nov. 8, 2015Location: MetLife StadiumTeam Stats: Jacksonville — 381 passing yards, 98 rushing yards Jacksonville Jaguars Womens Hoodie , 19 first downsNew York — 272 passing yards, 29 rushing yards, 14 first downsQuick recap: The Jaguars actually dominated this game, significantly out-gaining the Jets through the air and on the ground. Jacksonville held Chris Ivory and the New York rushing attack to 29 rushing yards on 28 attempts (1.03 yards per carry). But in typical 2015 Jaguars fashion, they turned the ball over four times — Blake Bortles had three of which, throwing two interceptions and fumbling twice (losing one). The Jets were able to capitalize and walked away with the victory. Series By Decade: 1990s: Series tied 2-2 (one playoff win for Jets)2000-2010: Jaguars dominated 4-12011-Present: Jets have dominated 4-0Quick thoughts: We saw a couple of close, competitive matchups in the ‘90s, followed by Jacksonville owning New York throughout the first decade of the 2000s, and currently the Jets have Jacksonville’s number. More than half of the games in the series have been decided by seven points or less. Only four games were decided by 14 points or more. The Jaguars outscored the Jets 129 to 58 in the five meetings during the 2000s. The Jets have outscored the Jaguars 100-56 during their current four-game winning streak. Fast forward to 2018 Womens Customized Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys , and this game has eerily similar circumstances to the 2017 contest:The game is being played in Week 4The Jaguars have a 2-1 recordThe Jets have a 1-2 record Jacksonville’s one loss came via the Tennessee Titans Let’s hope that doesn’t mean that history is going to repeat itself. On paper, the Jaguars should destroy the Jets with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold playing against this vaunted defense. But it was New York’s rushing attack that was too much for Jacksonville to handle last season. The Jags, while still not great against the rush, have vastly improved in that area since last year’s game against the Jets. I think the Jaguars bounce back with a comfortable — but not easy — victory this week, and sweep the New York teams. What are your thoughts?

NEW YORK — The final stretch of games against opponents with mostly losing records is producing some frustrating moments for the New York Yankees. There were two lackluster losses to the Chicago White Sox Rollie Fingers Jersey , a team playing better of late but still on course for its sixth straight losing season. Then there were the events of Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers when Dellin Betances allowed a two-run homer to Victor Martinez and a solo shot to Niko Goodrum in a span of three pitches to turn a two-run lead into an 8-7 loss.Article continues below ...After a disappointing series opener, the Yankees hope to rebound from a rare late-inning collapse Friday night when they continue a four-game set with Detroit at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are nearing the end of a stretch in which they play 30 of 37 games against teams with losing records before heading to Oakland on Monday. They are 20-14 so far, with a 19-8 mark against teams under .500.Three of those losses have come since the Yankees returned from a four-game series in Baltimore. They sandwiched a 5-4 win on Tuesday around losses of 6-2 and 4-1 to Chicago and then allowed five homers Thursday and lost for the second time in 71 games when leading after eight innings.“We’ve got some guys moving around right now out of normal positions obviously with some guys down but it’s continue to work, continue to grow, continue to get better,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “We are doing that, and we are seeing a lot of positive signs from that, but every now and then we’re seeing some mistakes that to win big we’ve got to get better and curtail them.”The Yankees are 8 1/2 games behind Boston in the AL East after trimming the deficit to six games on Sunday. On Thursday, they wasted Giancarlo Stanton’s 300th homer and Luke Voit’s fourth homer with the Yankees that gave them a 7-5 lead into the ninth.Betances was closing because Aroldis Chapman is a week into his disabled-list stint because of a knee injury. Since Chapman went down Betances and Zach Britton both have had save opportunities.“He’s pitched great for us all season,” Stanton said of Betances. “If we get another save opportunity tomorrow, I am fully confident he can get the job done. Chalk this one up, it’s a bad game for him. He’ll be all right.”Friday is the last day to make waiver trades to get players eligible for the postseason and the Yankees will reportedly acquire Andrew McCutchen. The Tigers are going for consecutive wins for the first time since Aug. 12-13. Detroit also is seeking consecutive road wins for the first time since July 15 in Houston and July 23 in Kansas City.Winning the series opener ended a five-game losing streak where Detroit was outscored 34-10.“We had really two of our worst games in Kansas City the last couple of days,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. “So this is really a nice comeback for us. We needed this because we were kind of bummed. The whole club, we didn’t play good baseball in Kansas City. “Martinez, who is likely playing his final series in New York, recorded his 12th career multi-homer game Thursday. The designated hitter owns the team record for RBIs by a switch-hitter with 533, surpassing Billy Rogell’s record.Jeimer Candelario and Ronny Rodriguez also homered for the Tigers, who last hit five homers in a game on Sept. 5, 2017.After J.A. Happ endured his worst outing since joining the Yankees, Luis Severino (17-6 http://www.padresfanproshop.com/authentic-randy-jones-jersey , 3.27 ERA) takes the mound Friday for the Yankees and can become the major leagues’ first 18-game winner. He is trying to become the first Yankee to win at least 18 games since left-hander CC Sabathia was a 19-game winner in 2011. Severino also is trying to become the first Yankee right-hander to reach 18 wins since Phil Hughes in 2010.Severino has won his last two starts after going 2-4 with a 7.50 ERA in his previous seven outings from July 7-Aug. 13. He last pitched Sunday night in Baltimore when he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 5-3 win.“That’s first-half-of-the-year dominant fastball,” Boone said. “The slider was still a little inconsistent for him. But I thought stuff-wise and being able to pitch with his fastball, he was electric. So hopefully another step forward for him.”He allowed one earned run and struck out 10 in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader June 4 in Detroit.Severino is 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA in four career starts against Detroit.Jordan Zimmermann (6-6, 4.38) starts for the Tigers and has alternated wins and losses in his last four starts following a four-game losing streak. Zimmermann last pitched Sunday when he allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings of a 7-2 loss.Zimmermann is 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA in five career starts against the Yankees. His only career start in New York occurred Aug. 2, 2017, when he allowed six hits in seven innings of a 2-0 win in a game that featured a 4 1/2-hour rain delay. The right-hander has issued one walk in his last four starts. In the two wins in that span, he has a 0.72 ERA. In the two defeats, he owns a 9.00 ERA. The American League has the two winningest teams in baseball squaring off against each other in its Championship Series. The Boston Red Sox won 108 games and the American League East title before defeating the New York Yankees in four games in the Division Series. The Houston Astros won 103 games in winning the AL West, and the defending World Series champions swept the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the playoffs. The Astros jumped out to an early lead after beating the Red Sox 7-2 in the series opener. Justin Verlander was on top of his game while striking out six hitters in six innings and allowing two hits and two runs, but Red Sox starter Chris Sale struggled with his control. The Astros held a 3-2 lead heading into the ninth inning, but they put the game away with four runs in the ninth thanks to home runs by Josh Reddick and Yuli Gurriel. Martinez in the offseason. Martinez blasted 43 home runs and knocked in 130 runs, and his preparation before each game was a big reason for his success.Martinez was joined by Mookie Betts, who should be among the favorites for the Most Valuable Player Award. Betts hit 32 home runs and stole 30 bases during the season and is also an outstanding defensive player. The Astros counter with Alex Bregman Johnny Manziel Jersey , George Springer and Jose Altuve, all of whom have been outstanding clutch hitters. The Astros have an advantage if it comes down to a battle of bullpens. The Red Sox had a few breakdowns in that area during the second half of the regular season, but that was not a problem in Game 4 of the ALDS, when the bullpen shut down the Yankees from the sixth through the eighth inning. However, when closer Craig Kimbrel got the ball in the ninth inning, the Yankees scored two runs and came within a few feet of extending the series to five games via a game-ending grand slam off Gary Sanchez's bat.Still, Kimbrel is the strongest part of Boston's bullpen. One other key factor in this series is Boston manager Alex Cora's familiarity with the Astros. Cora was Houston manager A.J. Hinch's trusted bench coach in 2017, and he understands all of the Astros' strengths and weaknesses.More importantly, he has turned the Red Sox into a looser, tougher and more aggressive team than they were a year ago.The Astros are minus-235 favorites, while the Red Sox are plus-195 underdogs, according to OddsShark. A Houston backer would have to risk $235 to win $100, while Red Sox bettors wager $100 to win $195.PredictionThe Astros have gained the early edge with their Game 1 victory at Fenway Park. However, the Red Sox will not give up, and they will find a way to win this series in seven games.National League Championship SeriesScheduleGame 1: Brewers 6, Dodgers 5; Brewers lead 1-0Game 2: Dodgers 4, Brewers 3; series tied 1-1Game 3: Brewers at Dodgers; Monday, Oct. 15 at 7:39p.m. ET on FS1Game 4: Brewers at Dodgers; Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 9:09p.m. ET on FS1*Game 5: Brewers at Dodgers; Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 5:05p.m. ET on FS1*Game 6: Dodgers at Brewers; Friday http://www.padresfanproshop.com/authentic-wil-myers-jersey , Oct. 19 at 8:39p.m. ET on FS1*Game 7: Dodgers at Brewers; Saturday, Oct. 20 at 9:09p.m. ET on FS1*If necessary. The Milwaukee Brewers got the jump in the NLCS, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 in Game 1 Friday night. However, the Dodgers bounced back and evened the series with a 4-3 victory in Game 2 Saturday, as Justin Turner turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning. Closer Kenley Jansen dispatched the Brewers in the bottom of the ninth, and the series is squared 1-1 as the teams head to Los Angeles for Game 3.The Brewers are considered to have the better bullpen in the series, but the Dodgers are determined to show that their relievers are also an asset."That's something that to a man, I think our guys are taking it personal, as a challenge, because our guys are pretty good back there, too," manager Dave Roberts said of the Los Angeles bullpen, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. "And so there's not a whole lot said about them. But without those guys, we wouldn't be in this position."The Dodgers are minus-170 favorites to win the NLCS, while the Brewers are plus-150, per OddsShark. The Brewers will send Jhoulys Chacin to the mound in Game 3 against hard-throwing Walker Buehler of the Dodgers.Chacin had a 15-8 record during the regular season with a 3.50 ERA, and he has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 12 starts. Buehler was 8-5 with a 2.62 ERA, and he helped steady the Dodgers rotation in the second half of the year.PredictionEven though the Dodgers won Game 2 to even the NLCS, the Brewers will not let their opportunity to win the National League pennant slip away.

Falcons at Eagles - Live Blog The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 action in a rematch of last season’s NFC Divisional Round when the Eagles outlasted the Falcons 15-10 on their way to an NFL title. The Falcons were the only team that found a way to slow Nick Foles and that Eagles offense down as the Eagles would score 38 and 41 in their next two games to route the Minnesota Vikings and hold off the New England Patriots. That should give them a bit of confidence that they can Youth Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , in fact, hang with this team. With Carson Wentz still not ready to return from injury, it will be Nick Foles in this game. The Falcons will want to put the pressure on early and often while getting their own running game going. If they can do that, they might have a chance in this one.Falcons vs. Eagles live updatesThe FalcoholicBleeding Green Nation Tweets from https://twitter.com/MileHighReport/lists/the-broncos-beat The Houston Texans entered today’s game on a five-game winning streak while the Denver Broncos were going in the absolute opposite direction — losing five of their last six contests. The Broncos mounted a comeback in the final minutes of the game, only to wind up losing 19-17 when Brandon McManus missed a 51-yard kick that could have secured victory.Instead of going into the bye week with a much needed victory, the Broncos endure another heart-breaking loss and move to 3-6 on the season. That’s certainly not the scenario Broncos Country was hoping for. Here are five things we learned from today’s game.1. A different week yields similar and forlorn resultsIt seems like outside of a select few games this season that the Broncos have had the opportunity to achieve victory in the final moments of the contest. Alas, the cataclysm continued with the Broncos enduring a series of self-inflicted wounds that wound up costing them the game. Inopportune penalties? Check. Questionable play-calling? Yup. Missed kicks with the game on the line? Oofta. No matter what week it is Womens Garett Bolles Jersey , the Broncos seem to always fall short and end up being their own worst enemies. It has been a nightmare of a season, but fortunately there is a one week break from future letdowns on the horizon.2. The Broncos’ continue their trend of turning the ball overThe overarching theme and bane of the Broncos’ offense through the season to date has been their penchant for turning the ball over. That trend continued in today’s game. The Broncos’ stable of running backs hadn’t lost a fumble all year long, but that changed when Booker put the ball on the ground early on in the second quarter. It ended up proving to be a costly turnover, with DeAndre Hopkins snagging a 16-yard touchdown grab against Justin Simmons a few plays later. On a similar note, Vance Joseph’s decision to attempt a 62-yard field goal instead of going for it on fourth down (or punting) in the final moments of the first half proved to be costly. Brandon McManus missed the kick and the Texans’ offense was able to get into field goal range and rack up three more points to give them a six-point lead as the half ended. In the end that was a gamble that didn’t pay off for Denver and one that had a hand in changing the overall outcome of the game.Unfortunately, the Broncos have had at least one turnover in the past twelve games, which is the longest streak in that respect in the National Football League. Undisciplined teams who routinely turn the ball over aren’t going to win many games. That’s a significant reason why the Broncos are 3-6 heading into their bye week and on pace to have back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in over four decades.3. Jeff Heuerman finally has a breakout gameWith the departure of Demaryius Thomas Youth Case Keenum Jersey , all of Broncos Country was expected Courtland Sutton to be the next man up and make big plays in the passing game. While Sutton had three catches for 57 yards, it was fourth-year tight end Jeff Heuerman who had a breakout game. In fact, it was the best of his career albeit in a losing effort. The former Ohio State product proved to be an integral part in the Broncos’ passing game and registered a handful of third and fourth down conversions for the team. Overall, he had 10 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Not too shabby.4. The Texans’ defense halted the Broncos’ prominent rushing attackOne of the constant bright spots for the Broncos this season has been their dominant rushing attack. Unfortunately, the staunch front seven of the Texans is one of the league’s best against the run. It was obvious that their defensive prowess in the trenches was a significant cause for concern, which is why I outlined it my Scouting the Enemy segment yesterday. Without question, the Texans’ front seven were the victors over the Broncos’ offensive line this afternoon.Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker were held in check all game long outside of a 14-yard touchdown scamper by Booker late in the second quarter. The two combined for only 75 yards on 20 carries. Those poor statistics signaled the worst production the Broncos have amassed all year long on the ground with respect to total yards and yards per carry. Royce Freeman will be ready to tote the rock two weeks from today when the Broncos take on the Los Angeles Chargers Womens Courtland Sutton Jersey , but the future consistency of the Broncos’ rushing attack will be questionable given the unfortunate news below.5. The Broncos’ offensive line loses Matt Paradis to injuryThe Broncos’ offensive line suffered another brutal loss when center Matt Paradis went down early on in the game with a lower leg injury. According to Mike Klis, it is believed he suffered a fractured fibula. The franchise had already lost prominent guard Ronald Leary for the season after he tore his Achilles in their loss several weeks ago to the Los Angeles Rams. The loss of Paradis forced Connor McGovern to move to center with second-year player Elijah Wilkinson being inserted to left guard. Well wishes, prayers and a speedy recovery go out to Paradis who has proven to be one of the best centers in the league over the past several seasons. So Broncos Country, what were your five big observations from today’s game? Sound off in the comments section and make your voice heard!

Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway joined Orange and Blue 760’s Dave Logan to talk about the teams disappointing loss to the New York Jets. The Broncos Hall Of Fame General Manager said he was disappointed by the team and the coaching staff and thought they would do better against the Jets. The Broncos were coming off a disappointing loss to their divisional rival Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. They played well enough to keep the still undefeated Chiefs trailing into the 4th quarter but eventually Patrick Mahomes led a thrilling comeback. This performance made many feel that the Broncos would be able to handle the Jets and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. Well Youth Chris Harris Jr Jersey , we all know how that went. Elway also went out of his way to voice his displeasure with the Broncos coaching staff. He told Logan that like players, coaches have their bad days as well.As we know, Elway came close to firing Vance Joseph last season but decided to keep him, There were multiple changes made to the Broncos coaching staff however, but the Broncos appear to be heading down the same road that they took in 2017. If this continues, the outlook is grim for Head Coach Vance Joseph and Defensive Coordinator Joe Woods who Elway called out in this interview. Unless the Broncos pull an upset this weekend, they will be 2-4 heading into a short week before taking on the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. That game will be on the road and we all know how the Broncos struggle there. If the Broncos lose these next two games, Vance Joseph’s seat will be hot or literally on fire. Opportunity is slipping through San Francisco's young defensive backs' hands.Through 12 games, the 49ers have just two interceptions 鈥?the fewest in the NFL 鈥?and it isn't always for lack of being in position to make big plays. Their pass defenders simply can't secure the football when it does come their way."Every game it seems like the ball's on the ground or we're missing an opportunity http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/connor-mcgovern-jersey-authentic ," 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said. "They are going to come in bunches, but it's baffling to me that we haven't been able to get (more interceptions)."Losing the turnover battle goes a long way toward explaining the 49ers' 2-10 record as they prepare to host the Denver Broncos on Sunday.San Francisco's minus-20 turnover margin is the worst in the league. The 49ers have turned the ball over 25 times but generated just five takeaways themselves.Part of that, at least in terms of pass defense, can fairly be attributed to the youth and inexperience in the secondary.Former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman lends veteran wisdom in his first year with the team. But second-year cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon has been picked on by opposing quarterbacks on numerous occasions this season.Witherspoon also failed to haul in a potential interception on a slant pass that he defended well last week against Seattle.Due to injuries, the 49ers are expected to start a pair of rookies at the safety positions Sunday in D.J. Reed and Marcell Harris, who have a combined 15 games and two starts of NFL experience between them.Reed, at free safety, is replacing the injured Adrian Colbert, who is only in his second season himself.Sherman said young defensive backs often get themselves in position to make plays but lose concentration on the most important part - wrapping up the football for an interception."The old saying was the reason they play 'DB' is because they can't catch Womens Jake Butt Jersey , but I don't think that's as true anymore," Sherman said. "Some of it is just guys panicking. Guys getting big eyes and seeing the end zone and seeing space in front of them and not going through the last second of looking the ball in."But Sherman, a four-time Pro Bowl player in his eighth season, hasn't helped in this department either. He entered the season with 32 career interceptions, most among all active players since 2011, but has yet to record one in 2018.In Sherman's defense, he isn't getting that many opportunities since opponents are choosing to target Witherspoon in coverage more.Never has Sherman recorded fewer than two interceptions in a season. Is he aware of that stat?"Yeah, (but) the ball will get where it gets," he replied.Denver quarterback Case Keenum threw 10 interceptions through the Broncos' first eight games Womens Justin Simmons Jersey , but he hasn't been picked off a single time over the past four.NOTES: Receiver Marquise Goodwin practiced for the second day in a row and looks poised to return to the lineup after missing the past two games while being away from the team for personal reasons. With fellow starting receiver Pierre Garcon (knee) not having practiced Thursday, there seems a decent chance that rookie Dante Pettis draws the start opposite Goodwin against Denver. Pettis is coming off a breakout game against Seattle (5 catches, 129 yards, 2 TD's). ... Safety Antone Exum (knee), cornerback K'Waun Williams (knee) and linebacker Malcolm Smith (Achilles) were limited in Thursday's workout.

If you think I can present to you an argument today that Seattle is bound to come back and make the playoffs, I won’t. Especially not by comparing them to the 2015 team because that team was even worse than 0-2; I’d say that 4-5 is a worse position to be in than 0-2, right? There’s a lot less time left in the season to recover.Right now, there’s a lot of time left in the season. There’s time for Doug Baldwin and K.J. Wright to get healthy. There’s time for the Seahawks to understand how to best utilize the offensive weapons that they have; the 2015 team had barely a whisper of an offense in the first eight games and then Wilson became the NFL’s best quarterback by season’s end. (At least for that year and yes, he should have been the MVP over Cam Newton.) Imagine that: Wilson had an MVP-level campaign in the same season in which he had 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions through nine games. But it happened.Over the next 13 games, a shit ton can still happen. The Seahawks travel to take on the 0-3 Arizona Cardinals next Sunday. They’ll likely be facing rookie Josh Rosen, making his first NFL start. Then they host the LA Rams, and hey, at least they host. Then they face the currently 1-2 Oakland Raiders before getting a bye week. What if Seattle is 3-3 at that point? There’s so much we don’t know before the season. Nobody was predicting the 3-0 start of the Miami Dolphins or the 2-0 start by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who knew that Patrick Mahomes would be the best quarterback of all-time? We can only predict so much before the season has begun, but we also can’t predict everything even when we’re in the middle of it. Teams constantly change. The Chiefs started 5-0 last season and then at one point fell to 6-6. The Houston Texans once started 2-0 and finished 2-14. We know more than we knew two weeks ago Seahawks Tre Flowers Jersey , but there’s still so much that we don’t know. The 2015 Seattle Seahawks were widely criticized and they rebounded. The 2018 Seattle Seahawks have been widely criticized. This Week 3 went a lot like the Week 3 of three years ago. Will they also manage to make the playoffs? Will they also fall to 4-5? Or worse? I don’t know. Nobody knows.I’m willing to wait and find out and hold out hope that the next 13 games will go better than the first two. And as proven many times before, that’s entirely possible.

Earl Thomas is done in Seattle. I know Youth Will Dissly Jersey , that’s still a very painful sentence to read and it was tough writing it too; but the truth really does hurt. The front office tried to trade him for a 2nd round pick last offseason. Thomas has missed time in each of the last three seasons through injury. The relationship is seemingly broken beyond repair. Without Thomas, Pete Carroll got creative last year with his scheme, playing more two-high coverage and disguising things better. Ultimately, the Seahawks’ safety group became more interchangeable and versatile, defying the prototypes of the “strong” and “free” monikers. The coverage schemes were in some ways more passive. For Seattle’s defense to be at its most dominant, having a true center fielder to cover the deep middle third of cover 3 is preferable. Thomas’ prescient range is generational and at a Hall of Fame. What if John Schneider tried to give Carroll more range back there? What if he wanted to upgrade the hesitancy and bad tackling of Tedric Thompson? What if he wanted to add more team speed on the back end?In each draft, there are a small amount of safeties that meet the “rangy enough for NFL single-high” requirement. Last year, for instance, Derwin James, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jessie Bates flashed it. In their rookie seasons, only James showed the sideline-to-sideline, arm-beating talent. The draft before, Malik Hooker hinted at that too.2019’s safety class is particularly weak, and there are only two prospects whose tape shows sideline to sideline potential in the pros. Deionte Thompson and Nasir Adderley are the two players we’ll be looking at this week in “Draft on tape.”Deionte ThompsonDeionte Thompson was the consensus first safety off the board coming into the season. Draftniks had him firmly in their top 10. But two blown coverages in the college football playoff against Oklahoma and Clemson saw his stock fall. Personally, I feel placing the blame solely on Thompson’s shoulders for those mix-ups is foolish.Alabama’s coverage was strangely “bad” all year http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-michael-dickson-jersey , with persistent blown assignments and missed communications. The way Thompson played both assignments told me that he was playing what he thought was right, rather than being blind to an obvious key or failing to execute the right technique. His play throughout the season confirmed this, given he often did his job to the regimented degree that you expect from a Nick Saban-coached, starting safety. He played with a clear understanding of the Crimson Tide’s scheme. Smaller space rangeFrom a Seattle Seahawks perspective, for them to take a safety high, they must put fantastic range on tape. Thompson flashed impressive range in the tighter areas of the field. From hashmark to hashmark against slower vertical crossers, he could run with them and undercut them. He picked up vertical seams. He got over the top of deep sideline routes from two-high. Stuff in Thompson’s immediate vicinity would be blanketed by the 21-year-old (22 in February) and swatted incomplete. (Deionte*, my apologies)Man coverage and matchingThompson’s ability to cover in tighter spaces extended to man coverage, where Saban’s matching placed him in man-to-man assignments. He could get over the top of routes playing in two-high, but also rotate downwards as a safety. As a down safety, he covered receivers’ routes with impressive physicality, footwork, patience and route recognition.Range limitationsBy this point, you are probably asking why on earth the Seahawks shouldn’t draft Deionte Thompson? Answer: his range isn’t “crazy” or even sideline to sideline, like some analysts have claimed. Sure Bradley McDougald Jersey , Saban’s scheme demands that his middle of the field safety plays primarily from hashmark to hashmark, meaning that seam routes will hold them there and limit the range potential. Yet, even with that limiter factored in, Thompson’s range still disappointed from the plaudits he’d received. He wasn’t helped by limited burst or long speed—I’d be shocked if he ran quicker than the 4.5s. His tape is full of “nearly” plays that he’ll get further away from making in the NFL. Minkah Fitzpatrick managed to make some of these plays. Thompson couldn’t. It wasn’t just from single-high positions; he struggled trying to get to the honey hole in a “palms” assignment too. (Take all of #2 vertically unless #2 goes out in first 5 yards, then take all of #1 vertically). None of this looks like a safety who Seattle would take relatively high. Hit powerThompson is a vicious safety who was always trying to get a hit in on the ballcarrier and punished receivers catching in the weak spots of the defensive coverage. Encouragingly, he led with his shoulder rather than his head when going for the oncoming train impact.Dangerous and ineffective tacklingHowever, his tackling technique needs refinement and is borderline dangerous. He does not maintain a near-hip relationship when approaching the ball-carrier, resulting in overaggressive pursuit angles. He lunges into tackles, resulting in misses and little wrap. He ducks his head into tackles, resulting in an increased risk in paralysis and missed targets. Better angles, footwork and form is needed. In summary...not a SeahawkIn summary, Thompson’s flashes don’t outweigh the fact he hasn’t put on tape pure single-high safety traits. He’s a high football IQ player that will make plays, but his best fit is as a two-high safety who can be moved around in the NFL. If Seattle wants to take a shot at a rangy single-high safety, they should aim for the lofty heights of Mount Rainier and look at the raw Nasir Adderley. I covered him in this Draft on tape. The Detroit Lions are the latest team to benefit from the New York Giants’ tear down, acquiring run-stuffer extraordinaire Damon “Snacks” Harrison in exchange for a 5th round pick on Wednesday. Harrison is the second defensive player traded by the Giants in as many days Authentic J.R. Sweezy Jersey , after New York shipped Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday. Apple had been a lightning rod among both fans and players since being drafted by the Giants, and his exit seemed like a matter of time. Harrison, meanwhile, is one of the best at his position in the NFL. Joining the Lions mid-season, Harrison will now attempt to boost a Detroit run defense that has been awful in 2018. Through seven weeks, the Lions rank 30th in both run defense by DVOA and rushing yards allowed per game. Luckily for Detroit, they are adding the best run-stopping defensive tackle in the sport. In the past five seasons (including 2018), Harrison has ranked first in Pro Football Focus’ run-stop rate; in 2013, he finished second. Though Harrison’s play-time may be limited in Week 8, he should give the Lions an immediate boost defending the run when he’s on the field, against a Seahawks team that loves to run the ball.

What do teams do in that situation? You probably have heard analysts talk about the silent count. The offense determines the timing of the snap through a series of nonverbal signals. There are typically a number of players involved.Let’s take a look at an example from the Jets’ road win in Buffalo from 2018.In this clip you will see Sam Darnold raise his right leg. Left guard Spencer Long is looking back for the leg raise. Once he sees it, he taps center Jonotthan Harrison, who then knows to snap the ball. (Froze the video for a bit just to allow you to see Long tapping Harrison, which would be easy to miss otherwise).Doesn’t this make it easy for the defense? It seems simple. When they are playing the Jets, all they have to do is look for Darnold’s leg raise and Long’s tap. The defenders can then time the snap and get a jump start firing into the backfield. To prevent that from happening, the offense has to mix things up and have more than one way of executing the silent count. Here you see the Jets do tjust hat. Darnold raises his leg, and Long taps Harrison again. But the Jets don’t snap the ball. It’s the second Darnold leg raise and Long tap that brings on the snap. Now defenders can’t just fire into the backfield when they see the leg raise and tap. For all they know the ball won’t be snapped until the second sequence, and they will be committing a penalty if they are overly aggressive. Late in the year, Darnold finally started to generate that scramble drill charisma with Robby Anderson and Chris Herndon, and that is when we really started to see the rookie take off. Tate is a tremendous improviser. After he paired up with Carson Wentz, he made a bunch of phenomenal scramble drill plays. You could easily picture Darnold being the passer in the clips below. Here, Tate is lined up slot right. His initial route is covered, but once he recognizes Wentz extending the play, he puts in defender in the dirt with a great move pivoting outside towards the back pylon to make himself an open target for the touchdown.Earlier in the same game, another great improvisational play from Tate. The Eagles fake the handoff to him after he comes in motion, and he was only supposed to be a checkdown option in the flat. After Wentz scrambles, Tate takes advantage of the defender playing the underneath throw, and goes over the top to open himself up for an impressive grab. (Luckily his fumble goes out of bounds.)Cons:Will be 31 at the start of the 2019 season, and has a ton of mileage. 140 regular season games played (10th among active wide receivers) plus eleven playoff games Womens Isaiah Crowell Jersey , in a role that draws more hits than most other wide receivers takeDown year in 2018, posted fewest receiving yards per game since 2012 and second-fewest yards per reception of careerProduction drop specifically came after joining the Eagles - was actually on pace for a strong year over the first half of the season in Detroit (74 yards per game and three TDs in seven appearances). In Philly, averaged only 34 yards per game on a paltry 6.0 yards per target, scoring only two touchdowns in ten games. 3.7 receptions per game as an Eagle was his worst since 2012 - conversely, his 6.3 receptions per game as a Lion in 2018 was on pace for a new career bestIn 2018, posted a 31% first down rate and a 90.2 passer rating when targeted, both numbers his worst since 2011. Sticking with the trend, both numbers dipped after he went to Philadelphia, at 27% and 82.8, respectivelyThin wide receiver market could drive his price above the number you would prefer to pay a 30+ receiver coming off of a so-so season (Spotrac estimated annual value is $10.2M)

Yeldon Jersey" href="http://www.thejaguarsfootballauthentic.com/t.j.-yeldon-jersey-authentic">Womens T.J. Yeldon Jersey , so at the very least one addition to the roster was needed and it appears like they decided to pluck someone off the Broncos practice squad.Williams was a seventh round pick of the Broncos in the 2018 NFL Draft, playing his college football at South Carolina and Arkansas. The 6’1” Womens Yannick Ngakoue Jersey , 229-pound Williams only got a handful of touches in the preseason but nothing really stood out about his numbers. From what I remember about the few times I saw Williams play at Arkansas, he was more of a between the tackles type of runner and played in a more NFL-style offense Cheap Cam Robinson Jersey , so he should at least be somewhat familiar with pass protection, etc.I’m not sure this will be the last move the Jaguars make at the position. The Jacksonville Jaguars just beat the New York Jets on both sides of the ball Cheap Myles Jack Jersey , with Blake Bortles throwing for a career-high 388 yards and the defense allowing just 178 total yards on 48 total plays which last under 23 minutes of time of possession. In that Herculean defensive effort was three sacks on rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. Let’s take a look at each.Sack #1: Yannick NgakoueIt was Yannick’s first of the season and it came as the Jaguars were trying to close out a near perfect first half. Yannick cleans this up well (and who better to get a clean up sack than a guy who has provided clean up sacks for so many others?) but look at Taven Bryan destroy the left guard and collapse the pocket.Whew.Sack #2: Malik JacksonA beautiful stunt by Malik here who just makes a bee line for Darnold — and like Yannick, this is Malik’s first sack of the season as well.Poor guy never had a chance.Sack #3: Barry ChurchIt was very obvious Church was coming on the blitz off the edge and the running back just can’t pick him up. This is Church’s first sack of the season and he has just 2.5 in his career.

This is Church’s first sack of the season and he has just 2.5 in his career. One thing that is certain about the offseason for the Jacksonville Jaguars is that the team needs to figure out the quarterback position. With Blake Bortles likely to be cut and Cody Kessler proving incapable of leading an offense, the Jaguars are likely to look at options through both free agency and the draft, and possibly even a trade. One such name that has been linked to Jacksonville is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. While Flacco still has time remaining on his current contract, it is all but certain that Baltimore will be moving on from its Super Bowl-winning quarterback this offseason due to the emergence of Lamar Jackson. According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, there is mutual interest between Jacksonville and Flacco’s camp. La Canfora, citing “league sources,” writes that the Jaguars have had internal conversations about the veteran signal-caller. Now, let’s take this information with a grain of salt Youth Logan Cooke Jersey , as La Canfora hasn’t been the most reliable source when reporting on the Jaguars. He is a veteran reporter and I am sure he does his due diligence, but the most recent example is when La Canfora speculated that Tom Coughlin will be coaching the Jaguars in 2019, and then completely flaked out on the 1010XL Mid-Day Chalk Show when he was called out on his reporting. This was an idea that never held much weight with us here on Big Cat Country, either. Where La Canfora does make a good point, however, is the fact that Dave Caldwell already has a good relationship with new Ravens general manager Eric Decosta. While Decosta was just appointed as general manager on January 11, he was assistant general manager alongside Ozzie Newsome, and has been with the Ravens organization for several years. The Ravens and Jaguars have worked together on trade deals like Eugene Monroe and Luke Bowanko in recent seasons. So, if the Jaguars were interested in treading for Flacco Womens Andrew Norwell Jersey , the two GMs would be comfortable with each other. Though, all final decisions on Jacksonville’s end would go through Coughlin. My question is, though, why trade for Flacco and give up a draft pick when in all likelihood he will be available in free agency? The Jaguars wouldn’t have to give up a whole lot to acquire Flacco — probably a mid or late round pick — but why give up anything at all when you can sign him in March? Flacco is set to make $18.5 million in 2019 (but he also doesn’t have anymore guarantees or bonuses remaining). I am sure he’s going to want something equivalent to that salary, or possibly more than that, but free agency gives you the opportunity to negotiate.I don’t believe they’ll be a strong trade market for Flacco, but if the Jaguars really think he is the answer, and they think another team may make an offer for him, then I suppose it makes sense to trade for him. But Youth Donte Moncrief Jersey , again, I doubt that will be the case because every NFL organization knows Flacco is likely to be a cap casualty this offseason. La Canfora also thinks the Jaguars are interested in Nick Foles and Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill still has two years left on his current contract with the Miami Dolphins, but his tenure has been filled with injuries and inconsistent play, and the new regime in Miami (likely to hire New England Patriots linebacker coach Brian Flores as head coach when possible) may just want to move on and start from scratch. I’m not sure he would be the solution in Jacksonville, anyway. Foles has proven has a very capable and clutch quarterback in a limited sample size. His contract situation is an interesting one. From my understanding, there is a mutual option for 2019. The Eagles can opt to extend Foles’ contract through 2019 with a $20 million price tag (which later becomes a fully guaranteed deal), and Foles can then agree to stay in Philly or opt out and test free agency. Both Philly and Foles know there will be a market for him, so the Eagles are likely to do what they can to retain him and try to recoup some of his value via trade. The Eagles have salary cap issues, though Blake Bortles Jersey , and may opt out of the deal rather than agreeing to pay a backup quarterback $20 million. The issue here is that the Jaguars may not be able to/willing to afford Foles’ asking price in free agency. At this point, this is nothing more than speculation. The Jaguars are highly likely to draft a quarterback early in April, and are almost certainly going to sign/trade for a veteran this offseasonto pair with the rookie, though which specific player that is remains to be seen. We have written earlier articles regarding whether or not the Jaguars should go after Foles or look into Flacco. What do you think is the best course of action for Jacksonville?
