However, some are speculating that the hefty contract, which pays him $88 million over 4 years with $50 million guaranteed, is a little exaggerated. In this article, I’ll break down my opinion on Foles as a player, comparison to Bortles, his contract and what it all means for the Colts.Pre-Eagles Foles:Foles was drafted 88th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2012 Draft after he played three years at Arizona and one at Michigan State. His first year in the league consisted mostly of backing up Michael Vick. 2013 started much the same until Vick got injured and Foles was thrust into the starting role. He vastly over-performed that season, accumulating a stat line of 64.0%-2,891-27-2 Andrew Luck Jersey , which was(and still is) an NFL record TD to interception ratio. His season ended on a high note as he was the Eagles new unquestioned starter and made his first and only Pro-Bowl appearance. However, 2014 was much worse as Chip Kelly tried to implement a revolutionary up-tempo offensive scheme. This, along with the release of Foles' number one receiver, DeSean Jackson, created the perfect storm for Foles to struggle. In the 8 games he was healthy, Foles had accumulated a stat line of 59.8-2163-13-10. Mediocre, to say the least. For the next couple of years, Foles bounced around the league, sometimes heavily considering retirement. He eventually found his way to the Kansas City Chiefs where he linked up with former coach Andy Reid. Following that season, Reid vouched for Foles, who signed a 2-year deal with Reid disciple Doug Pederson. Eagles Era Foles:After a devastating injury to MVP hopeful Carson Wentz, Foles found himself back on the field, and playing at a high level.Thanks to Wentz’s Herculean effort during most of the regular season the Eagles were sitting atop the NFC. Many expected a first round exit, though, as they were underdogs for every single game in the 2017 playoffs. And rightfully so.Before the beginning of the playoffs, Foles was playing respectably for a backup, averaging a QB rating of 66.025 in every game he started, which was inflated by a 115.8 QB rating against the lowly Giants. Nonetheless, Pederson and his staff had found a playcalling style that Foles was exceptionally adept with: the RPO. That was very apparent in what will go down as one of the most legendary playoffs runs ever Womens Darius Leonard Jersey , with Foles averaging an astounding 115.825 QB rating over 4 games. The run ended with some hardware for Eagles players, a Super Bowl MVP for Foles and a Lombardi for the city of brotherly love. In 4 games, Foles had gone from an unknown journeyman backup to a starting quarterback on a Super Bowl team and an award-winning author. As the next season began, Wentz still wasn’t fully healthy, so Foles got the starting nod. However, the clamoring for Philly’s Savior to supplant Wentz as the long term starter was quickly quieted after Foles averaged just a 74.75 QB rating in the first two games of the season. Wentz came back in for most of the season and played at a decent level (102.2 QB rating).Then, the inevitable struck.Wentz suffered a back injury that was significant enough that the Eagles shut him down for the rest of the season as a precaution. Back came the city’s prodigal son. In this case, however, the tables seemed to have turned completely. The Eagles were no longer the sure-fire playoff contender who was fighting for a first-round bye, but instead, a team in the hunt who had 2 out of the 3 games left in the season against playoff teams. How did Foles respond?A 103.87 QB rating to go along with 3 wins and a much-needed loss by the Vikings to secure the 6th seed for the Eagles. After a last-second win in Chicago, everyone in the football world, at least for a second, at least considered the idea that God must be an Eagles fan. Every single thing was breaking their way until the Saints broke their hearts the next week (only to experience heartbreak of their own a few weeks later).Nick Foles, in the span of 11 games, earned himself a Super Bowl ring and a reputation as a player who steps up his game when the lights shine the brightest.This reputation is what earned him a monster contract which many Jaguars fans applauded as a franchise-saving move. 2 years removed from their AFC Championship loss, the return of Andrew Luck and Deshaun Watson, along with awful play from their quarterback, Blake Bortles Peyton Manning Jersey White , had returned the Jags to being the floormat of the division. However, with an elite defense still intact, Foles' signing seemed to be a showing that great times lay ahead. If we take a closer look at the numbers, though, it seems it’s possible that the Jaguars threw out the old to buy the exact same thing at an elevated price. *note that a lot of Foles' stats are mathematical predictions since he was a back-up for most of his career, so he never played a complete season. I also took out 2015 for Luck because the math got really ugly with predicted stats.Nick Foles is clearly safer with the football than Bortles, who is a turnover machine with a TD:INT ratio of 1.37 and a lower QB rating. I have included Andrew Luck in this comparison as well, due to his similar contract. Luck earns around $23.3 million a year (largest contract in NFL history at the time of signing), and Foles is estimated to earn around $22 million a year. Even if the Jaguars hypothetically tap into Foles’ RPO potential and he plays at playoff form for a full season, they are still not getting they money's worth.Foles also doesn’t have to carry his team in the way Luck has had to in the past. Foles will benefit from his team's premier defense. The Jaguars defense was tied for 3rd in the league in points allowed, with 19.8 per game. While it should be expected that Foles and Co. should score more that Bortles did, there is a legitimate concern about the lack of offensiveweapons that Foles will have at his disposal. When he succeeded in 2013 he had DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. In 2017 it was Alshon Jeffrey and Zach Ertz. However, in Duval, he seems to have Dede Westbrook and little more. Leonard Fournette is a talented back, but his career average of 3.7 yards per carrying doesn’t live up to his Number 4 overall draft billing. That leads me to the next concern that the Jaguars should have, which is how the locker room will treat Foles. We’ve seen a rift created between the defense and the offense during the Bortles era, with Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Fournette jokingly calling him names like “Draco Malfoy” and saying he looks like “a substitute teacher”. We all know that there is a possibility that if Foles doesn’t produce, things could turn toxic. The Jaguars lockers locker room is no way comparable to the Eagles in terms of culture and respectability. Impact on the ColtsFinally, let's discuss how Foles' signing affects the Colts. The direct impact is that the Jaguars are in the same division as the Colts Womens Andrew Luck Jersey , thus we will have to play them twice a year and any improvement they make is harmful to the Colts. The more interesting point, though, is that the Jaguars have spent around $130 million dollars on 2 mediocre quarterbacks, making it harder for them to resign the plethora of young studs they have on the defensive side of the ball (Ngakoue, Ramsey, Bouye, Jack, etc.)Finally, Blake Bortles has actually been quite decent when playing against the Colts. Here are his stats over the last 3 years versus the Colts compared to his average game stats. It isn’t like Bortles was a check down king, as by my calculations, his average yards per attempt is 8.78. For comparison’s sake, last season's average was 7.43. The sample size is too small to calculate for Foles (his stat line in his one start versus the Colts was 72.7%-223-2-0, this was in 2016), but he probably won’t be as good as Bortles was against the Colts.Unless they meet in the playoffs.Overall, I think this is a terrible move for the Jaguars. They could have easily drafted up to get one of the 2 stud QBs in this class or gone for next years loaded one (like the Dolphins). However, they paid the 7th highest annual salary for an average to below-average quarterback who plays well in the playoffs. Bad move for Jaguars fans, a good move for Colts fans.

If they did, they would still be Cowboys. The team’s ability to lay off of overpaying for players is one of the reasons they’ve done a complete 180 in terms of cap space. But what about some of the more expensive veterans who will be sharing reps? Just how important are these players? If the team has enough depth at a certain position to where they are not logging a lot of snaps, does it really make sense to take on a more expensive cap hit? For example - Tyrone Crawford, Sean Lee, Allen Hurns, Jason Witten can combine for a total savings of $30.25 million.Clearly, the Cowboys aren’t going to cut all these players Taco Charlton Jersey White , and they may end up not cutting any of them, but man - that’s a lot of extra cash. They are all ‘right-kind-of-guys’ in their finest form, but they will not come close to contributing enough to warrant that cost. He’s not starting on the edge over Robert Quinn. The team also has a slew of youngsters they’d like to get some reps eventually. And who knows what’s going to happen this year with Gregory? It’s very possible that Crawford isn’t going to see much action at defensive end this season.So, just move him inside, right? Except the team now has both Maliek Collins and rookie Trysten Hill vying for reps at the 3-tech spot. How’s that going to work? And it’s not like they can just move Collins to 1-tech to open up more reps because Antwaun Woods and new free agent Christian Covington are already fighting for snaps there.The defensive line is a crowded group. Crawford is certainly up there on the depth chart, but the guys right below him aren’t far behind. In fact, it’s up for debate as to how the reps should be distributed. His reps could see a notable dip which isn’t what you’d want to see from one of the higher-paid players on the team. Would it be financially feasible to continue to shell out that kind of cash for a reduced workload? Who really knows how this wide receiver group is going to shape out?What we do know though is that Hurns is the second-highest cap hit of all the wide receivers. The team could save $5 million by cutting him, which puts him at a disadvantage when it comes time to round out this roster. Ultimately, what he shows in camp has the most influence on how to proceed with him going forward. If he suffers some type of injury setback, which let’s face it - isn’t unrealistic, that could be a deal breaker because his only value to the team is what he can produce this upcoming season.Lee unselfishly reworked his deal to go from a $10 million cap hit to $6 million, and that certainly makes a difference as he would’ve inevitably been a cap casualty had he not done that. For Lee, it’s not about the money. He’s always expressed how the Jones’ family has been very generous to him and he’s not lying. Lee has taken home over $42 million over his career so far, which seems pretty fair considering how much time he’s missed. For Lee, he just wants to be a part of the team and while a reduced cost helps his chances, there are no guarantees. Bottom line: This is a wait and see situation. If he can stay healthy and flashes some of the old Lee, he’s a no-brainer keeper. But if when he goes down, that’s when things get dicey.Jason WittenWhy is his name listed in this group? Who in their right mind would even consider playing without the legendary Jason Witten? When the Cowboys veteran tight end made the decision to return, most fans welcomed him back with open arms. Sure, he’s 37 and for a lot of football players - that’s old. Every year, he’s been projected to fizzle out as age gets the better of him, yet every year he keeps rolling along.His numbers have shown a decline as his targets, receptions, and yards have all dropped since 2015.But so have his expectations. It was only the ninth-highest among all defensive linemen. Jordan tied with Cincinnati’s Geno Atkins and Cleveland’s Myles Garrett, with Baltimore’s Michael Pierce (92), Jacksonville’s Calais Campbell (92,), Detroit’s Damon Harrison (95), Philadelphia’s Fletcher Cox (96), Houston’s J.J. Watt (97), and Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald (99) all being ahead of him. Jordan called Donald “great” Marcus Williams Jersey Stitched , while referring to Watt as “Captain America” and Cox as “a force”. After that, it was an interesting reaction. Jordan didn’t appear to be familiar with Michael Pierce, as he said he knew 9 out of the 10 players listed. However, he did tip his hat to Terrell Suggs and his tutelage. It’s not.Jordan added, “Out of evolution of the game, you’re have an outcome that’s going to happen. When you have something like what finished our game, you could hope that there could be a review situation. You figure you’ve got the best referees on the field who are going to make the best calls, and when they don’t that’s where scrutiny comes. And now you’re taking it to a higher power. Hopefully that higher power is correct.” Regarding the 18-game NFL schedule that was proposed by the owners, Jordan’s immediate response was probably how most players would react.“How would that even work?” Jordan asked.“So, people come to a game to watch Drew Brees throw to Michael Thomas, watch AK (Alvin Kamara) take off from the backfield or catch out of the backfield, uprising stars to play. In our final film room feature from the Buffalo Bills game Christine Michael Sr Jersey Stitched , we will take a look at a few plays that stood out for rookie left guard Quenton Nelson. Afterward, there is a nice goal line play for the offensive line, an impressive block laid by rookie running back Jordan Wilkins, and an aggressive run between the tackles by Marlon Mack.Let’s take a look.While the offensive line has had strong overall performances in the last two weeks, this is an example of a miscommunication between Ryan Kelly and Quenton Nelson. It looks like Kelly turns to his right to be aware of a stunt from the outside or a blitz up the middle. Nelson has Le’Raven Clark to his left and eyes the outside in case he needs help. They both ignore the defensive tackle who gladly takes the free run up the middle.Quenton Nelson is a really good run blocking guard. It was his specialty entering the NFL after a strong career at Notre Dame. Even still, he gets fooled by the stunt on this play. His aggressive nature gets the best of him. He is way off-balance when the stunt comes and is lucky the defender doesn’t blow up the play in the backfield.This play has two elements. The first is that Nelson does an excellent job staying in front of his man to give Andrew Luck plenty of space to step into his touchdown throw. He mirrors and anchors well.The second is the bogus commentary from the broadcast announcers that led people to believe and to “see” that Andrew Luck “stared down” Erik Swoope the whole way. The commentary during the game was that the safety made a bad play because he needs to “read Luck’s eyes.” Sorry, this is utter BS. To be completely up front, we both were wrong at first glance. The camera angle from the end zone made me initially believe that Luck was actually looking at Eric Ebron as the outside receiver. This angle shows that is not the case at all. Luck is staring at the safety, as any quarterback should Youth Rigoberto Sanchez Jersey , to see what he does as the route develops. The safety is the read on this play and this play is designed to create a dilemma. When Luck sees the safety stay home at the second pause, he makes his decision. If the safety read “Luck’s eyes,” he would have expected him to throw the ball right to him. Luck’s read was made well into Swoope’s route and told him to throw over the middle. The line on his helmet pretty clearly indicates that his “eyes” aren’t following one tight end over the other. Any suggestion otherwise is purely a guess, and one to fit the narrative.This is another inside pass blocking rep by Nelson where he keeps his anchor, even after the defender’s hands go up into his face mask. He forces the defender through traffic and ends up shoving him into the ground.Again, Nelson engages the defender and has to deny an inside move. This block is made more difficult because Nelson gets his weight moving too much to the outside, but he recovers and negates the second effort.On one of Marlon Mack’s big runs to the left side of the line, Nelson pulls to the outside. It would have been better if he stayed on his feet but his block if effective and gets Mack a free trip into the secondary. If Mack could have made the safety miss, this could have gone a long way.While individual efforts and analysis are nice to see Rigoberto Sanchez Jersey Stitched , especially for rookies, this goal line effort is equally fun to watch. Nearly every offensive linemen ends up a yard or two into the end zone. Even as Mack crosses into the goal line, the Bills are falling back on their heels.One of the primary skill sets missing for young NFL running backs is the ability to pass protect. Finding one who excels in this area can mean additional snaps and more opportunities. While Jordan Wilkins has taken a back seat to Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines, and even sat the whole game after Robert Turbin returned, plays like this will inspire confidence in his coaches.This is a phenomenal cut block that wipes out Matt Milano as he tries to pressure Andrew Luck. Mark Glowinski is late to come over but Wilkins does a great job filling the spot.Our final highlight is this run by Marlon Mack.We point out balance at the beginning of the play. When working with a balanced offensive line, as the Colts are here, quarterback’s will often audible play direction to the side of the field where they have the advantage. In this case, Luck could have audibled the play to his right, giving the Colts four offensive lineman and a lead blocker against four defenders in the box. This is running to your strength.Luck doesn’t audible so four offensive linemen and a lead blocker have to shut down five defensive linemen in the box to the left-hand side — play direction. While the offensive line does a reasonable job Womens Darius Leonard Jersey , the credit needs to go to Marlon Mack here. He does an incredible job cutting the run up into the small crease he is given. Once there, his spin move allows him additional room for a backbreaking run late in the game.This bodes well for Marlon Mack’s future as the lead back in the Colts running back committee.ANALYSISThere is little disputing that the Colts offensive line is stringing together nice performances. Andrew Luck has not been sacked in consecutive weeks and the running game is starting to show signs of life.
