Brate, who signed a six-year extension last year, opted to play through the injury and then kept playing through it because the Bucs lost tight end O.J. Howard during the season. He played in every game, but his production dropped to 30 catches and 289 yards.“Yeah, personally I wish I would have played better last year and everything like that, but I just don’t think I was able to prepare for the season the way I wanted to dealing with the injury,” Brate said, via PewterReport.com. “Week to week I wasn’t able to prepare for the games the way I normally would. It was more just kind of getting through the season. More than anything I’m just glad I was able to get it taken care of. I won’t have to deal with that moving forward.”Brate said he expects to miss the team’s offseason work as he continues to rehab his hip with eyes on being cleared for training camp. - The Buccaneers scored on the opening drive of the game, going 75 yards in seven plays, taking 2:41. The drive featured a 36-yard reception by WR Mike Evansand ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass from QB Jameis Winston to TE Cameron Brate. - Evans finished the game with four catches for 86 yards. It is the first career interception for Taylor. - Following Taylor’s interception, Winston and Brate connected for another score, with Brate catching a one-yard touchdown with under 30 seconds left in the half, ending a six-play, 39-yard drive lasting 1:56. - Winston now has 14 touchdown passes this season and 83 in his career. Murray-USA TODAY SportsGood morning, GGN! I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. Adam Gase is making plenty of small moves as interim GM, signing another former player of his in Deonte Thompson. The majority of articles for the day are mostly (and deservedly so) surrounding the ‘GM search’ that is supposedly going on within the Jets organization. If we know anything about the Johnson’s however, rest assured the choice will come from someone outside the organization whom the former has much respect for. On paper things are looking much better for the Jets — at least for the time being — but honestly to me things just seem underwhelming. Maybe it’s the lack of actual football being played. With that, here are your links for the team this Wednesday. We being today with a breakdown of their second pick, Jachai Polite.Polite, a 21-year old edge defender out of Florida, is listed at 6’3” and 258 pounds. He was a first-team all-SEC selection in 2018 as he racked up 11 sacks and led the nation with six forced fumbles. Having been a projected first-round pick for much of the pre-draft process, his stock sank after some poor workout numbers and reports of bad interviews and the Jets selected him in the third round.BackgroundPolite was recruited to play college football at Florida, having attended high school in-state. He racked up 13 sacks in his senior year and was brought in as a 230-pound defensive end.His first two seasons didn’t establish Polite as a top prospect as he was mostly a rotational player in his first year and then saw his second season cut short due to injury. He headed into his junior year with four career sacks. However, in 2018, he broke out with career highs in tackles (45), sacks (11) and forced fumbles (six, to lead the nation). At the end of the season Youth Jachai Polite Jersey , he declared his intention to enter the draft.Polite was widely regarded as a possible top-10 pick until he posted disappointing numbers in his combine workout. However, it was his reportedly poor interviews that really damaged his stock. With a chance to improve on his combine workout at his pro day, his stock fell further as his numbers were even worse. The Jets selected Polite in the third round, with the 68th pick of the draft.Let’s take a closer look at what Polite brings to the table, divided into categories.MeasurablesPrior to the 2018 season, Polite had been heavier and was considered to have gained some speed but lost some strength when he dropped back to 240-245 for his junior year.Polite’s poor workout numbers are thought to have been caused by the fact that he re-added almost 20 pounds before the combine and was said to be in poor shape. His 4.84 40-yard dash and 32-inch vertical were down near the bottom for his position and he pulled out of the remaining drills with a hamstring injury that caused further skepticism. At his pro day, his 40-yard dash was even worse (5.04 seconds) and his bench press and three-cone drill (7.59) were also poor.Based on his film, however, Polite has good burst and explosiveness, but doesn’t demonstrate much in the way of functional strength.UsagePolite played almost all of his snaps in his breakout 2018 season as an outside linebacker. He had played a lot more with his hand in the dirt in his first two seasons, including some reps on the defensive interior in his freshman year.MotorWhen he’s on, Polite’s motor can be incredible as there are plenty of impressive examples on film of him chasing downfield or across the field in pursuit. However, his motor would be best described as inconsistent as there are sometimes examples of him slowing up when plays go away from him or shying away from contact. He played 63 snaps against LSU last year but otherwise has only played more than 50 one other time, so his ability to handle a starter’s workload may be in question.Pass rushPolite has one of the most refined pass rushing approaches from this year’s class. He doesn’t over-rely on core moves, shows an ability to counter and attacks with effort. While he racked up 11 sacks last year Womens Jachai Polite Jersey , his pressure percentage was solid but not great. However, a review of his film shows that his assignment often required him to play pocket contain rather than fire out of his stance and go after the quarterback.Polite’s primary weapon is how explosive he is out of his stance and he seems to be good at timing up the snap count. Most of Polite’s success as a pass rusher comes from his speed around the edge and he has that ability to dip-and-bend to get consistent pressure around the edge that the Jets have been sorely lacking in recent seasons. He’s less effective at generating a bull rush or making a speed-to-power move, although the threat of speed off the edge does allow him to get his man off balance for inside counters.Run defenseAside from his 11 sacks last season, Polite had another 8.5 tackles for loss, so he does make plays against the run.Again, his ability to explode out of his stance is an asset, whether he uses it to shoot gaps or get unblocked into the backfield. He’s at his best coming downhill or when he stays at home, but less effective when required to take on blocks at the point of attack, as he can sometimes get controlled easily if a big lineman gets his hands on him.Polite can struggle to get off blocks without giving ground, but seems to know his limitations and at least plays with good discipline most of the time.TechniquePolite’s most effective pass rush moves are those where he’s keeping his blocker from getting his hands on him, so he seems to enjoy his best success on swipe, chop or jab moves. He also has an effective spin move, although he could arguably be more selective about when to use it and how he sets it up. When he gets it right, this move is deadly and could be even better with some coaching refinements. His hand work needs some work, both in terms of his ability to fight off blocks and in his aggression while keeping his man off him.TacklingPolite has a terrific knack for forcing fumbles as he consistently goes after the ball when in range. As noted he led the nation with six forced fumbles last season. He’s an effective player than can wrap ball carriers up and haul them down and has excellent closing speed so he can extend to trip or corral players who are out of his reach. He had several missed tackles in 2017 although these didn’t usually lead to much extra yardage and his tackle percentage was much better in his junior year.As noted Authentic Jachai Polite Jersey , he has an occasional tendency to shy away from contact, which will see him leaving his teammates to make a play rather than getting in on the pile.CoveragePolite did drop off the line and into coverage from time to time in the 2018 season and also batted down two passes at the line of scrimmage. On this play, he dropped off the line and pursued the receiver to the outside to make a tackle for loss.Instincts/IntelligencePolite is capable of making good reads and will usually keep his head up when rushing or taking on blockers so he is able to react. He also seems to handle read options and misdirection-type plays really well and shows good discipline to stay in his lane against the run.His awareness can sometimes be lacking when he encounters a chip-block or down-block and he didn’t realize there was a loose ball here.Polite jumped offside twice in 2018, which is a surprisingly low number given how he tries to read the snap count.Special teamsPolite didn’t contribute much on special teams in college as he didn’t register a tackle, blocked kick or penalty. He never played on the coverage units but was employed as a blocker and to rush kicks.Attitude/DemeanorThere have been concerns among teams about Polite’s attitude and maturity, although it’s worth noting that several Florida players were suspended for various reasons over the past few years and he was not among them.He was even a team captain at times. He drew some negative attention during the pre-draft process because he showed up out of shape and some were skeptical over whether his hamstring troubles were genuine or just a convenient excuse. Complaining about teams bashing him during interviews at his combine press conference didn’t help matters either. On the field, he’s been disciplined with only three penalties in his career, but he shows fire and tenacity between the lines.InjuriesPolite only played seven games in his sophomore year after having suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.Otherwise, injuries haven’t been an issue for him - aside from the controversy over his hamstring issues at the combine.Scheme FitThe Jets’ biggest need was for a pass rusher that can bring consistent pressure off the edge. Hopefully, Polite can at least start off as a designated pass rusher to upgrade the Jets’ pressure packages in passing situations. In the longer team, the Jets will hope that Polite will be able to establish himself as being able to hold up against the run so that he can become a full-time starter.ConclusionsPolite is a talented player and has the potential to provide the Jets with an outstanding return on their third-round pick. The Jets will be hopeful that the concerns over his character and athleticism are overblown. If so, he could provide an immediate upgrade to the pass rush. The next stage will then be to further refine his conditioning, strength and technique so that he can develop into a full time starter.

A memorable day for the Chargers in Cleveland had a memorable sequence of plays.Specifically Infant Yodny Cajuste Jersey , two plays. Back to back. And as quarterback Philip Rivers told PFT after the 38-14 win, it was the same play, out of a different coverage.Receiver Tyrell Williams, ran a pair of deep patterns and made the catches. Rivers said that Williams was the primary receiver on both plays, which gained 44 and then 45 yards.“When [offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt] called it I said, ‘Again? Why?'” Rivers said. But it worked Yodny Cajuste Jersey Draft , in large part because the Browns used a different version of the same coverage. End result? 89 yards and a touchdown. Without those throws, L.A.’s run-heavy game plan would have generated only 118 passing yards.Another play could have added even more passing yards, but a pitch to receiver Keenan Allen (who motioned to the backfield, right behind Rivers) followed by an attempted lateral back to Rivers fell apart. The Chargers had been working on the gadget play for a couple of weeks, but he was stunned by how quickly Browns defensive end Myles Garrett read the play and ran straight at Rivers.“I tried to yell to Keenan to not throw it to me,” River said. “He thought I was yelling at him to throw it.”The rest of the day went much better for the Chargers Yodny Cajuste NFL Jersey , and now the question becomes how the night will go, with the 5-0 Chiefs playing in New England. Will Rivers be looking for a Patriots jersey to wear as the first-place team in the NFC West possibly loses its first game of the year?“Shoot, that one’s tough,” Rivers said. “I can’t root for either team. I’ll be rooting for a tie.” Daniels was with the team since 2006."The 2019 offseason has been marked by turnover for the New England Patriots: from the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, to the free agency departures of Trey Flowers and Trent Brown, among others Yodny Cajuste NFL Draft , to six assistant coaches as well as character coach Jack Easterby leaving the team. On top of that it looks like the reigning world champions will now also have to replace a key member of their scouting department.According to a report by ESPN’s Field Yates, national scout DuJuan Daniels will leave the club to pursue other opportunities outside of the organization. Daniels originally joined the Patriots in 2006 as a scouting assistant, before getting promoted to area scout in 2008.Five years later, the former Boston College wide receiver moved up to the national level — a role he has held ever since and in which he earned himself three Super Bowl rings.Daniels was the only member of the club to carry the title of national scout, so it will be interesting to see how the Patriots will fill his role. The most likely scenario is that one of the team’s area scouts gets a promotion. In 2018, New England had six of them working under director of college scouting Monti Ossenfort:Given their experience Yodny Cajuste Buffalo Bills Jersey , it seems as if Debick and Williams are unlikely to be promoted to national scout just yet. The same probably has to be said for Heffelfinger, who has held the same role for the past 14 seasons and saw both Daniels and Ossenfort rise through the ranks in the meantime. This leaves Groh, Howard and Yeargan as the most realistic candidates for internal promotion into Daniels’ former role.

A game-ending 63-yard field goal by Graham Gano gave the Carolina Panthers a 33-31 victory over the Giants on Sunday. This was all too reminiscent of last season’s Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, when Jake Elliott beat the Giants with a last-second 61-yard kick. Talk about a gut punch. The Giants fought back from a 27-16 fourth-quarter deficit to nearly win the game. Trailing 30-24 with 2:16 left after a Graham Gano field goal, Eli Manning took the Giants 75 yards in four plays for the game-winning score. A 40-yard pass to Russell Shepard with 1:27 left put the Giants at the Carolina 15-yard line. One play later, Manning hit Saquon Barkley for a 15-yard catch-and-run touchdown with Barkley leaping into the end zone with 1:08 left. Aldrick Rosas’ extra point gave the Giants the lead.Carolina drove 30 yards in 8 plays to get into position for Gano’s game-winning kick. The game marked the first time the Giants have scored at 30 points since the final game of the 2015 season, ending a streak of 37 games.Manning completed 22-of-36 passes for 326 yards, with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.. Odell Beckham caught 8 passes for 133 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Beckham caught a 33-yard touchdown pass and threw a 57-yard scoring pass to Barkley on a trick play. Barkley ran 15 times for 48 yards and caught 4 passes for 81 yards and 2 TDs. He became the third rookie in NFL history to have 100 or more yards from scrimmage in his first five NFL games. The Giants fall to 1-4. Carolina is 3-1.Moments that matteredBECKHAM’S INTERVIEW: Think of it what you will, the interview with Josina Anderson of ESPN is a huge part of the story for the Giants today.AGAIN? HOW? A year after losing a game on a 61-yard last-second field goal by Jake Elliott of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants lost on a 63-yard last-play-of-the-game kick by Graham Gano. That’s the second-longest in NFL history. That’s a bad dream, right? Not reality?OOPS!: Carolina got a first-quarter touchdown when Beckham, returning punts, tried to throw a block on a Panthers coverage player. The ball hit him, the Panthers recovered for a touchdown. IF YOU CAN’T CATCH ‘EM: ...: It’s been obvious that the Giants have needed more big plays in the passing game. Beckham got them their biggest of the season by throwing a 57-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley off a second-quarter trick play.PICK-FEST: Manning and Cam Newton each threw a pair of second-half interceptions. Manning was picked off by Carolina defensive back Mike Adams both times. Curtis Riley and Janoris Jenkins each had interceptions of Newton.UNNECESSARY ROUGHESS?: After the Giants had appeared to stop the Panthers, breaking up a third-down pass for Devin Funchess on third-and-13, Michael Thomas was called for helmet-to-helmet contact. That gave Carolina a first down at the Giants’ 44-yard line and led to a game-changing 18-yard touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey that gave Carolina a 27-16 lead with 11:21 to play.BECKHAM FINALLY SCORES: The Giants got within three when Beckham split a double team and hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from Manning with 8:08 left. The touchdown was Beckham’s first of the season. A Janoris Jenkins interception gave the Giants the ball at Carolina’s 34-yard line. A 2-point conversion pass to Rhett Ellison brought the Giants within three Corey Ballentine NFL Jersey , 27-24.BARKLEY GOES FOR 129: That’s total yards, making it the fifth straight game he has surpassed 100. That makes him only the third player in NFL history to have 100 or more yards from scrimmage in his first five games. What’s next? The Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles this week on Thursday Night Football.Pat’s Perspectives: The oh-no edition I swear I didn’t plan it this way, but when I got done with this week’s Perspectives column, I noticed how every item had something to do with O — either the letter or the number. So let’s jump right in — and as always, comments, questions and feedback are always appreciated.Brad Penner-USA TODAY SportsOh-and-2I’m not quite ready to push the panic button and declare this Giants season a continuation of last year’s disaster mainly because I really do believe the Giants know where their short comings are, and the coaching staff hasn’t yet exhausted all ideas to get it fixed. What I am a tad concerned about is how time can run out very quickly in an NFL season. I can remember how last year every week we were told by a player or a coach, “We’re getting close” or “This is correctable”or “We’re not panicking.”Well, “getting close” is a matter of someone’s opinion that can’t be measured in this instance as you’re either “there” or you’re not.Right now, the Giants are clearly not. Fanpulse PicksGiants fans at Big Blue View think the Giants will lose by 1.Eagles fans at Bleeding Green Nation think the Eagles will win by 5.The biggest issue I have is with the “We’re not panicking” line. To me, not panicking means staying the course and doing what you planned to do.But something that has popped up on offense over the last two weeks which has been maddening to figure out has been the team’s tendency to move away from running the ball too early. Now I get it that when you’re behind in a game, you have to pass the ball because those plays are quicker, and you can cram a lot more plays into a shorter period of time. So when I say the Giants have been giving up on running the ball early, I’m talking about with the game still being within reach and with a lot of time left. The most recent example was last week’s loss to the Cowboys. After two quarters of play, the Cowboys had a 10-0 lead — not a huge deficit at that point Corey Ballentine NFL Draft , especiallysince the Giants defense had settled down by then. Yet oddly enough, the Giants, even with their inconsistent pass protection, ended up running the ball eight times in the first half while passing 20. Considering Saquon Barkley was averaging 3.5 yards per carry in the first two quarters of play and quarterback Eli Manning was averaging 4.85 yards per pass attempt (that mostly a result of check-down passes), wouldn’t it have made sense to run the ball a little more to maybe given the Cowboys pause about whipping out all their fancy stunts and twists against the Giants pass blocking?Offensive coordinator Mike Shula was asked if the inconsistency by the offense has affected the play-calling planned for specific scenarios. “I think at times, yeah,” he admitted. “I think probably anybody on offense or defense, would say yes to that question.”While it’s easy to appreciate head coach Pat Shurmur’s willingness to constantly evaluate and adjust not just during a season but in games, sometimes if you over evaluate or change too much, that has the opposite effect of what you’re striving for. When the Giants do their evaluations, maybe they should start with how often they’re tweaking things in-game and, if they are indeed changing things up too soon or too frequently, try to cut back on that. NorthJersey.com-USA TODAY NETWORPass protection struggles Having watched the Giants offensive line in two games now, I had a crazy theory about the right side of the offensive line and why it has not been as effective as the left side.According to Pro Football Focus, the right side of the Giants offensive line has allowed 15 total pressures to the left’s side’s 9 (but to be fair here Corey Ballentine Buffalo Bills Jersey , the left side has allowed 3 sacks to the right’s side’s 2).Now in my game observations, there have been more than a few instances where on the right side of the offensive line it looks as though there was a communication issue between guard Patrick Omameh and tackle Ereck Flowers during pass protection. So that got me wondering if because both players are still becoming acclimated with playing on the right side after years of playing on the left side, are their struggles related to the fact that they’re both kind of feeling their way when they’re out there. I took that question to offensive coordinator Mike Shula who predictably dismissed it. “Communication probably is always key to a lot of things — it doesn’t differ with playing football,” he said.“They just gotta continue to go over it and over it and I think with each rep in practice, they’re going to get a little more experience and they’re going to get better.”Still, that didn’t address my question regarding things that teams do that don’t necessarily show up on film from that week’s opponent — after all, if it was that simple, then games would probably be low scoring every week because everyone would have a strong idea what the opponent as going to do.It also didn’t address my question regarding what happens during a game, when the defense gives them a look that maybe they weren’t expecting.“The other thing is vision,” Shula said. “If they see certain looks, they need to talk to each other and confirm, ‘Hey, this is what we saw on our film study and in practice. so this is what we can expect.’ The improvement of awareness before the ball is snapped is another thing, too.”While Shula didn’t exactly address the original question, the last thing he said to me about awareness was interesting only because in a past column Color Rush Corey Ballentine Jersey , I had questions about the quality of the preparation in the classroom. Well, the preparation also extends to the pre-snap reads, so if — and I’m not saying this is the case — but if someone isn’t aware of what’s taking place before the snap, then then that either falls on his preparation before the ball is snapped or not having someone experienced enough next to him on that side to clarify what’s unfolding before him. Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsOdell gets itIf you’re still not convinced that receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has seen the light, then I have a locker room story to share. The first two weeks of the season, Beckham and teammate Jonathan Stewart would be seen sprawled out on the floor of the locker room during the open media period playing cards. This week, however, they skipped that practice. So when someone from the media quipped to Beckham, “What, no card game today?” he smiled and said, “We’re 0-2, man. No time for cards when you’re 0-2.”Amen!

Sam Darnold won’t play this week after he turned up at practice in street clothes and a walking boot Taron Johnson Jerseys 2019 , Jets coach Todd Bowles is a football coach, thus has to say certain things at certain times.Via Darryl Slater of NJ.com, Bowles said he couldn’t rule out the rookie playing Sunday against the Bills. (Presumably, he can’t rule out that Darnold won’t be the next Attorney General either.)“We’ll see how he comes along during the week,” Bowles said.Bowles was still referring to Darnold as “day-to-day” with a foot strain White Tre’Davious White Jersey , and that he wouldn’t require surgery for the problem, ruling out a Lisfranc injury. He also said he wouldn’t play Darnold unless he was able to practice Thursday or Friday.Darnold said after last week’s game with the Dolphins that he聽“got a little dinged up, but nothing that will stop me.”Apparently that’s not the case, though Bowles said he didn’t realize it was an issue they got back home.“I didn’t hear about it until Monday,” Bowles said. “I guess he got banged up Tre’Davious White Jersey 2019 , and I guess it got worse. I don’t know what play specifically. He told me [it happened] when he cut, but that could’ve been on any number of plays.”The Jets have a bye after this week’s game, so there’s an extra week of rest, if, in fact White Zay Jones Jerseys , Darnold isn’t ready to go. (Or, if he ends up running the Justice Department.) The Buffalo Bills enter Sunday’s home game against the Chicago Bears on a three-game losing streak. Since Stephen Hauschka nailed a field goal as time expired to send Buffalo to a 13-12 victory over the Tennessee Titans, the Bills have been unable to muster any sort of offense. This week doesn’t figure to be any easier for the boys in blue. With Derek Anderson (concussion) and Josh Allen (elbow) both ruled out for today’s contest, the starting quarterback duties fall squarely on the shoulders of one Nathan Peterman. The second-year man has been intercepted on 11.1% of his regular-season passing attempts in his career, and the Bears boast a strong defense that has forced 11 interceptions through 7 games this season.Perhaps the worst part about Buffalo’s injuries at the quarterback situation is not that they force Peterman to start Zay Jones Jerseys 2019 , but more that the Bills’ options behind Peterman are woefully inept. If Peterman were to be injured, the Bills would be forced to play Matt Barkley, who signed with the team just this week, at the most important position on the field. They may also determine that they would be better off running a version of the option with ether Logan Thomas, a former quarterback turned tight end White Dion Dawkins Jerseys , or newly-signed wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who played wideout in college.Buffalo is also missing two starters on defense, with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (concussion) and defensive end Trent Murphy (knee) both ruled out. Buffalo will be short-handed in a difficult contest against the first-place team from the NFC North. This is your first-half open thread, ladies and gentlemen. Let’s hope for a better result than the last few weeks!

disappointing season Youth Deandre Baker Jersey , there’s been talk in New York that he could be replaced as the Giants’ starting quarterback by rookie Kyle Lauletta. But Lauletta isn’t helping make his case that he should be the face of the franchise. The Jersey Journal reports that Lauletta was arrested Tuesday morning while driving to the team’s practice facility after he failed to obey a police officer’s directions and came close to striking the officer with his vehicle.“We are aware of the situation and are in contact with Kyle,” a Giants official said. “We are still gathering information.”Although Lauletta has been the third-string quarterback behind both Manning and Alex Tanney, the Giants liked him enough coming out of Richmond that they chose him in the fourth round of the draft, and there’s increasing talk that he should be given a shot to show what he can do before the season is over.Given that the Giants are 1-7 and their offense couldn’t get much worse, it’s easy to picture Lauletta getting a chance at some point this season. But it’s also easy to picture the Giants concluding that if Lauletta can’t keep himself out of trouble when he knows he’s being considered for the starting job, that means he isn’t mature enough to be their starting quarterback. Wide receiver says he is ready for leadership role"Sterling Shepard admitted Monday that he was “a little shocked” when the New York Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns Womens Deandre Baker Jersey , but that it was also a reality check for him.“I think, but you sit back and you look at it, it’s kind of the nature of the business,” Shepard said. “That was a point for me to really sit back and realize that this is a business, and that’s just how things go sometimes.” The business was recently kind to Shepard as he is received a four-year, $41 million contract extension to remain with the Giants.“It came up kind of quickly. We got it done fairly fast. I think we went back and forth maybe three or four times Authentic Deandre Baker Jersey , but it was all worth it -- about a month and a half, two months. It was done fairly quickly,” Shepard said.“I knew it was a possibility. I didn’t know how quickly it was going to go, or what the starting point was going to be, but I knew it was a possibility after the season. My agent contacted me. I had spoken with him, and they were pretty sure that it would get done before camp started. It was an exciting moment.”A few other takeaways from Shepard’s conference call with media Deandre Baker Jersey Boys , held the first day of the teams’ offseason workouts. He will miss Beckham “I will miss him in a lot of ways. I learned a lot from him on the field. That’s like a brother to me. That’ll never be lost, but just being able to talk to him on game days on what we see. That’s something that we did all the time. Just different things that we saw on the field, and how to go about handling them. He’s one of the best receivers in the game, in my opinion. It’s great to have that type of guy on your team that you could bounce ideas off of and share what’s going on through their eyes.”On new wide receiver Golden Tate“We definitely are similar when it comes to our game. I was pretty excited, to be honest. To have a veteran like that to be able to -- Odell is gone and that was the guy that I bounced ideas off of. To have a guy that’s been in the league that long, and to have been around Infant Deandre Baker Jersey , it’s great to have people like that that you can talk to about the game. I was pretty excited, and I have no doubt in my mind that we will be successful. We’re both the type of guys that can play inside and outside, and I think coach will use us in a similar way that he used (Vikings WR Adam) Thielen and (Vikings WR Stefon) Diggs, and them. So, I don’t see that being an issue at all.”On becoming a veteran team leader “I think Odell going down kind of helped me with the leadership part of that. Being able to handle guys coming to me for some help on the playbook, or whatever it may be. I think that kind of helped me out the past 10 games with that aspect. It’s kind of different. You go from having a guy like Odell and having a guy like (former Giants WR) Brandon Marshall and those types of guys in the room Deandre Baker Jersey Draft , and now you’re the only one that’s kind of looked at for advice. Like I said, I feel like I have been prepped for that, and I’m ready for that.”

The New England Patriots got their sparkplug back Monday.

A matter of hours after a 38-7 thrashing of the previously undefeated Miami Dolphins Color Rush Jarrett Stidham Jersey , Julian Edelman returned from his four-game suspension for performance enhancers, reportedly showing up in the locker room for the first time in a month before 7 a.m."It's good. He hasn't changed a bit," Tom Brady said later in the day. "Four weeks off, he looks good."Added long-time teammate Matthew Slater, whose locker is next to Edelman's: "It's good to see him. Julian and I have a very unique relationship. I'm glad that he's back. I'm looking to attack the short week together."The Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night.Edelman was not available to reporters on Monday and a club spokesman said the slot receiver will talk "Thursday at the earliest."There is no guarantee Edelman, who missed all last season after suffering a torn ACL in a non-contact injury in August 2017 in a preseason game, will even play Thursday. But don't bet against it. He has missed the past 23 meaningful New England games.Edelman played in three of the four preseason games before having to leave the team. He had seven catches for 49 yards, three for first downs. But if you look back past the injury, you see a player who caught 98 passes for 1,106 yards and three touchdowns in 2016.He is third on the NFL's all-time postseason receptions list with 98, leading the Patriots in both catches and yardage in the postseason."We've played so much football together I really have no doubt of where he's going to be or what he's capable of Youth Jarrett Stidham Jersey ," Brady said. "He's been a great player for our team and I think everyone's excited to have him back. Anytime you have great players it's going to help what you're doing."We all welcome him back and he's excited, ready to go, and hopefully he can go out and play great."Brady and Edelman have played together since 2009."When he's out there I obviously know his body language, I know his ability to get open, my confidence in him," Brady said. "All those things come up so when you get matchups and he gets open, he gets open so quick. That's the thing about Julian, his explosiveness in the routes, in and out of breaks."It's very comforting for a quarterback to see a guy get open really early in a route. Julian, we ask a lot of him. When you play five different spots, I think he's capable of moving in and out of different locations and kind of specialty type plays Womens Jarrett Stidham Jersey , there's a lot that he does well."Still, he's been idle from football more a month."Hopefully, it's a smooth transition," Brady said. "We've got to prepare this week. It's going to be a big week of prep and then we're going to go out there and play Thursday night and see where we're at."NOTES: The Patriots did not practice Monday but were required to put out a hypothetical injury report because of the Thursday night game. Rob Gronkowski, who left Sunday's game with a nagging ankle injury, was listed as the only player who "did not practice" — in a practice that didn't take place. Flowers went from fourth-round pick to two-time Super Bowl champion."In late August 2014, the New England Patriots made a surprising move when they shipped long-time starting left guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for tight end Tim Wright. The trade also included an exchange of draft picks, with the Patriots getting a selections in the fourth and sixth round while giving up a fifth-rounder in return. That fourth-round pick is now one of the NFL’s highest paid defenders.Eight months after the trade, the Patriots drafted defensive lineman Trey Flowers with what had now become the 101st selection in the 2015 draft. At that time, the Arkansas product was seen as a well-rounded prospect but one whose size and lack of speed could cause him to have issues as a traditional edge defender at the next level. That being said, his upside was evident from the get-go as colleague Rich Hill noted in his post-draft analysis:Flowers lived up to the praise fairly early in his career: in his first preseason game Authentic Jarrett Stidham Jersey , Flowers registered two tackles and a sack against Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Four plays after the takedown, however, the rookie hurt his shoulder and left the game. Despite the injury, he was still able to do enough to earn a spot on New England’s 2015 opening day roster as the fourth defensive edge. His standing on the depth chart was reflected by his usage: Flowers appeared in only one game during the 2015 season, playing a grand total of four defensive snaps before getting placed on season-ending injured reserve. Basically, his rookie campaign served as a redshirt season to groom him for bigger tasks ahead — and they certainly came, especially with New England moving on from Chandler Jones the following offseason.Suddenly, Flowers was a mainstay in New England’s defensive rotation and he showed why the club had trust in him by delivering an outstanding 2016 season. During the regular season, and while being an equal part of a rotation that also included Rob Ninkovich, Jabaal Sheard and free agency addition Chris Long, he led the Patriots with 7.0 sacks. He kept the pace up during the playoffs Jarrett Stidham Jersey Boys , by adding 2.5 quarterback takedowns — all in the Super Bowl:Flowers’ second sack for which he was fully credited was one of the high-points of his tenure with the Patriots: by taking down quarterback Matt Ryan, he knocked the Atlanta Falcons out of field goal range during crunch time in Super Bowl 51 and thus played an enormous role in helping his team complete its historic 25-point comeback en route to bringing a fifth Vince Lombardi Trophy to New England. His performance on the game’s biggest stage alone would have been worth the fourth-round investment one year earlier. Flowers, however, was far from done: over the next two seasons, he became the Patriots’ clear-cut top option along the defensive edge and grew into one of the most complete players at his position — a stout defender against the run, a disruptive force against the pass, and a versatile option to play every technique at the highest level. After producing another solid season in 2017 and being one of the few bright spots on New England’s injury-riddled and inconsistent defense, Flowers delivered arguably his best performance to date in 2018: playing almost three-fourths of the Patriots’ defensive snaps, he again led the team in sacks (7.5 during the regular season, 2.0 during the playoffs) and came through in the clutch moments.Look no further than the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, when he took another league MVP down to force the Patriots’ opponent out of field goal range in a game ultimately decided in overtime:This sack of Patrick Mahomes Infant Jarrett Stidham Jersey , just like the one of Matt Ryan above, illustrate what the Patriots had in Flowers — and what made the Detroit Lions sign the 25-year-old to a five-year contract reportedly worth around $16-$17 million per year yesterday: he made big plays when his team needed him to make them, and time and again showed that the questions surrounding him coming out of Arkansas were not warranted.Seeing Flowers go will therefore be a big loss for the reigning world champions, but in the end his story is one of massive success. He entered the league as a day-three draft selection, grew into one of the NFL’s most dependable players, played key roles in helping his team win two Super Bowls, and even upon his departure will add to the club’s draft capital: New England is expected to get a third-round compensatory pick next year for Flowers. All in all, you can’t expect much more from a fourth-round selection.

” watch in the NFL Youth Wesley Walker Jerseys , and all eyes are on Todd Bowles of the New York Jets at the moment. How quickly it all fell apart for them. After going 10-6 in his first season there, the Jets are 13-29, a .310 winning percentage. How soon could Bowles be gone? Consider that the Jets now head into a bye week. So that might make sense as a time to make a change for a club that had zero fight in it during a 41-10 loss Sunday against the visiting Buffalo Bills and quarterback Matt Barkley, of all people.“We stunk it up as coaches,” Bowles said. “We stunk it up as players.”All true. Here’s another comment that was rather telling: “That’s the first time I felt like somebody really smacked us,” Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne said, “and we didn’t do nothing about it.”Keep in mind that the Bills are nothing special. Barkley is worse than that — a has-been who never was, nearly two years removed from his most recent NFL start. But defensive guru Bowles couldn’t come up with anything to stop the guy.Now the Jets are 3-7 and heading in the wrong direction, losers of four straight games.Bowles shouldn’t stand alone in terms of questions about how much longer he will — or should — last in his current job.As embarrassing as the Jets suddenly are, Bowles is hardly the only coach whose club is looking unprepared and unable to compete lately:— Doug Marrone’s Jacksonville Jaguars somehow immediately went from AFC runners-up to also-rans, dropping five consecutive games to fall to 3-6 after a 29-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts;— Dirk Koetter’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers somehow beat the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles in Weeks 1 and 2 but have lost six of seven games since to sit at 3-6 after a 16-3 setback against the visiting Washington Redskins;— Jon Gruden is not going anywhere anytime soon, of course Wesley Walker Jerseys Stitched , but his Oakland Raiders are as bad as it gets right now, going to 1-8 after losing five games in a row by at least 14 points each, the latest a 20-6 defeat at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.“This will be a year that a lot of us will never forget,” Gruden said. “It’s painful.”Jets fans probably feel the same way about their season. In case you missed it, here are other top topics after the NFL season’s 10th Sunday:ROAD, SWEET ROADWashington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman celebrated a road victory by blasting the NFC East leaders’ home fans, saying it seems like they “just don’t really care; they just boo everything and aren’t really behind us.” Washington is 3-1 in away games, 3-2 at home. “We can play all the games on the road, if you ask me,” said Norman, who had an acrobatic interception early, one of four turnovers forced by Washington’s defense against the Bucs. Later Color Rush Blessuan Austin Jersey , Norman sent out a tweet encouraging spectators to be more supportive and enthusiastic at home. After all, with a 6-3 record, a two-game division lead over the surprisingly so-so Super Bowl champion Eagles and the Cowboys (both 4-5 after Dallas beat Philadelphia 27-20 with the help of a hurdle by Ezekiel Elliott) and an easy schedule the rest of the way, the Redskins would host a playoff game if they avoid a collapse.LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!This week’s most original TD celebration — remember when the league tried to discourage all of those with penalties and fines? — came courtesy of Kansas City Chiefs speedster Tyreek Hill. After catching one of Patrick Mahomes‘ two TD passes in KC’s 26-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Hill hopped into the stands and grabbed ahold of a TV camera, managing to record images of some teammates whooping it up, as well as the flag he earned for unsportsmanlike conduct. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was not exactly thrilled by that aspect of the charade. “That was too much,” Reid said. “I’m all into the ‘personality’ thing, but he was … out of character there.”BETTER THAN OMAHAGive Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff credit for directing a potent offense that’s helped his team get off to a 9-1 start. Give him credit, too Youth Blessuan Austin Jersey , for quite an audible in LA’s 36-31 victory against the Seattle Seahawks, name-checking Oscar winner Halle Berry. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Trumaine Johnson’s tough first season with the New York Jets hit another rough patch. The team’s top cornerback was held out of practice Wednesday for what coach Todd Bowles called “an in-house matter.”Both Bowles and Johnson declined to discuss details of their conversation or why the player was kept off the field. Johnson says he “of course” expects to return to practice Thursday and play at New England in the season finale Sunday.“Me and the head man talked about it,” Johnson said. “That’s between us.”Johnson is listed on the team’s first injury report of the week as having not practiced with the reason being “not injury related.” When asked whether it was a disciplinary issue, Johnson repeated his response about it being between him and Bowles.Because of a quadriceps injury and inconsistency Johnson has struggled at times to live up to the five-year, $72.5 million contract he signed with New York that included $34 million guaranteed. He has a team-leading four interceptions, but also has some costly miscues and penalties — including a pass interference call in overtime that prolonged Green Bay’s winning drive last Sunday.“Well, nobody had a good season because of the (team’s) record,” Bowles said. “But it’s been up and down. He’s had some good plays, he had some plays that he’d like to have back.”Bowles also said he has no issue with Johnson’s approach on or off the field.“He’s had a good attitude,” the coach said. “There’s nothing wrong with his attitude.”Johnson left the Jets’ locker room after the game without speaking to reporters, but apologized Wednesday for doing so.“I was definitely upset Womens Blessuan Austin Jersey ,” Johnson said. “But I took that the wrong way. I definitely should talk to you after the game — win or lose. That was my fault.”With the game tied at 38, the Packers were facing a third-and-10 from their 40 when Aaron Rodgers’ deep pass for Marquez Valdes-Scantling was incomplete. That would have forced Green Bay to punt, but Johnson was called for defensive pass interference. It was a spot foul, so it cost the Jets 33 yards — putting the Packers at the New York 27 — and setting up the winning touchdown pass by Rodgers to Davante Adams a few minutes later.“They called it, it hurt us,” Johnson said.It was one of a whopping 16 penalties against the Jets for a team-record 172 yards.Johnson was expected to shore up the Jets’ secondary this season after six years with the Rams, giving Bowles a No. 1-type cornerback to pair with Morris Claiborne, nickel back Buster Skrine and safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. The group labeled itself “New Jack City” during training camp and set a goal of being the best set of defensive backs in the league.Adams made the Pro Bowl in his second season and is one of the game’s rising players, but the defensive backs as a whole have not had the impact they expected. New York is ranked 26th in the NFL in pass defense, with opposing offenses throwing at will at times against the Jets.Johnson missed five games in the middle of the season with a quadriceps injury that lingered for weeks before he was finally able to return to the field.“With the injury and losing games, of course,” the 28-year-old Johnson said when asked if this has been his toughest season. “But Authentic Blessuan Austin Jersey , it’s going to turn around.”The Jets are 4-11 and Bowles is expected to be fired at some point after the regular-season finale. Johnson thinks brighter days are ahead for him and the team because he has seen firsthand with the Rams how franchises can bounce back.“I’ve been down this road before,” Johnson said. “I don’t like talking about my old team, but we were in the same situation — losing, losing, losing — and we finally flipped it. And, I believe that in this team, too.”NOTES: Claiborne (shoulder/ankle), WRs Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and Jermaine Kearse (Achilles tendon), DL Mike Pennel (tooth), LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder) and K Jason Myers (left hip) all did not practice. LB Jordan Jenkins (ankle) was limited. … Kearse was selected by reporters who cover the team as the winner of the annual media good guy award, named after former New York Times writer Gerald Eskenazi. QB Josh McCown was last year’s recipient.

Can these two step up and replace Tampa Bay’s

best pass rusher?"On Tuesday Jordan Whitehead Jersey , the news surfaced that Jason Pierre-Paul potentially suffered a season-ending neck injury in a recent car accident. The extent of the injury is a fractured vertebrae in his neck. Since the news broke, other reports have surfaced that aren’t so dire. Some have estimated a 5-6 month recovery if surgery is required, which would set up a return somewhere around November. One report has been especially optimistic. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, there is a thought that the vertebrae could heal on its own and that Pierre-Paul would be ready to play by Week One. Obviously, JPP and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are seeking other opinions, even to the extent where he has sent scans of the injury to “several other” doctors, per Pelissero. Regardless of the situation Anthony Nelson Jersey , Tampa Bay’s 2018 sack leader will likely miss time. After failing to draft an edge rusher, the Bucs will have to find a way to offset another hole on the roster. Fortunately for them, they may already have the answer in Shaquil Barrett and Noah Spence. Now don’t get me wrong, both players are nowhere near the player that Pierre-Paul has proven to be. But with the right coaching and setup, they may be able to help balance the loss. Shaquil Barrett has the ability to make plays when called upon. Photo by Justin Edmonds/Getty ImagesThere’s no other way to cut it: both Spence and Barrett have a giant opportunity to make a name for themselves on this team. For Spence, it would be especially relieving to see him make an impact after injuries basically cost him the last year and a half. He is extremely talented, but hasn’t put it all together up to this point.A shoulder injury derailed any momentum from a solid rookie campaign and no one really knows what was going on with Spence in 2018. He just simply didn’t play. JPP’s injury could be his launching point. It could Barrett’s as well. While he’s mostly served as a role player Anthony Nelson Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jersey , Barrett has shown flashes that he can play. He also comes with a huge chip on his shoulder after going undrafted out of Colorado State. Barrett has been able to amass 14 sacks and 25 TFLs over the past four years. According to Pro Football Focus, he was on defensive side of the field for just 276 snaps in 2017, but still managed to sack the quarterback three times. That comes out to an average of one sack every 92 snaps. Pierre-Paul played 933 snaps and took the quarterback down 12.5 times in 2018 - which would be about a sack every 75 snaps. Barrett also managed one pressure every 46 snaps compared to one pressure every 37 snaps for JPP. It’s a dip in production, but it may not be as much a drop-off as originally thought.Hopefully this is all for naught and Pierre-Paul is ready to go by Week One. Not only would the Bucs keep their defensive leader, but it would help ease a lot of growing pains for the new players - and former ones - that are learning Todd Bowles’ system. That’s nowhere close to a guarantee given the Bucs’ recent history of bad luck, but hope springs eternal - especially in the NFL. And here’s to hoping the Bucs can find an answer to this potential dilemma. The Buccaneers fired Mike Smith as their defensive coordinator during the 2018 season and it appears that will be the final stop of his coaching career.Smith made an appearance with Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio and said that he has “enjoyed every minute” of being an NFL coach while indicating that the time has come to find “new adventures” away from the game.“I鈥檝e been in this league and coached a long time and I think it鈥檚 time to go do something different,” Smith said Womens Anthony Nelson Jersey , via JoeBucsFan.com.Smith, who turns 60 this year, coached in college from 1982 until joining the Ravens as a defensive assistant in 1999. He was on the staff when Baltimore won Super Bowl XXXV and then moved to the Jaguars as defensive coordinator in 2003. Smith went 66-46 in the regular season and 1-4 in the postseason as the Falcons head coach from 2008-14 and took a year off before joining the Buccaneers staff.

I must admit I had a warm and fuzzy feeling when I thought of our defensive secondary during the off season. While I was not convinced Jaquiski Tartt was a better strong safety than Eric Reid Kyle Juszczyk Jersey , I was pretty excited about the acquisition of Richard Sherman. The idea of him joining Ahkello Witherspoon and Adrian Colbert gave me the crazy idea that we were going to have a pretty solid secondary. I know both Witherspoon and Colbert have been banged up but I must admit I am pretty disappointed in them so far this season. Now we are getting articles about the possibility of them being replaced by guys like Greg Mabin and D J Reed. While I like both Reed and Mabin, I was hoping Witherspoon and Colbert could be part of something special. Perhaps they still can but unfortunately they just don’t look like the same players we saw at the end of last season.Maybe we blame it on the coaching? While I am not as quick as some to start passing around the blame, perhaps there are some things that Robert Saleh and Jeff Hafley could do to help make them more effective? PDTShareTweetShareShareNFC West ranks fourth in NFL.com’s divisional power rankingsWe’re in mid June and it’s far too early to make power rankings for NFL divisions, but we’re going to go ahead and look at some anyways. NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal put together divisional power rankings and has the San Francisco 49ers’ division, the NFC West, at fourth. Keep in mind this is straight power rankings. Nothing ranked by quarterback or anything like that. This is the teams, the rosters, and the rankings. Here’s what Rosenthal says about the ranking: I really want to argue against this. In first place is the NFC North, followed by the AFC North Dee Ford Jersey , and NFC South. I want to argue this ranking, but it also seems somewhat adequate. The NFC North has Aaron Rodgers, Khalil Mack, and a solid Minnesota Vikings roster. The AFC North has the Ravens, Ben Roethlisberger, and a revamped Cleveland Browns. I could put the NFC West above the NFC South. The NFC South has the Saints which we all know as a powerhouse, but the Falcons are hot/cold Kwon Alexander Jersey , the Buccaneers have roster issues, and the Panthers are good depending on the year and Cam Newton’s health. The problem with putting the NFC West at third is that it’s unproven with the 49ers and the Cardinals. The Seahawks were in the playoffs last year, but if they can do that magic again is yet to be determined in 2019.The Rams beat the Saints in the 2019 playoffs, but they might take a slight step back in terms of “power”. Still, it’s hard to argue with where the NFC West is in all of this. I’ll turn it over to you. What is your NFL Divisional power rankings and do you think the NFC West should be fourth?

White Russell Bodine Jerseys

Well that news just changed the outlook for Sunday’s showdown with Miami. If you haven’t heard White Russell Bodine Jerseys , Buffalo Bills franchise stalwart Kyle Williams announced on Friday that he will retire following the game Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. That makes this not just another meaningless December game in Buffalo. It means it’s the end of an era. Kyle has been the heart and soul of this team for the better part of a decade and every play he is on the field, you should simply watch just him. DT Kyle WilliamsThis is more of a legacy watch. Kyle will go down as one of the Buffalo Bills’ most beloved players of all time and one of its best, period. What you really need to watch with him, is the passion with which he plays. It would be easy for him to mail it in, during yet another lost season, but that’s not what makes him great. He will bring the intensity and do what he can to make sure others bring that same passion. That is what makes Williams an all-timer: his drive and passion regardless of the situation. Soak it up while you can, because players like him don’t come around often. QB Josh AllenJosh Allen has had a rocky rookie season, but that is (and should) be expected of rookie quarterbacks. Allen has, at times, played at a super-hero level (the first Miami game comes to mind), but he also has plenty of room to grow. That latter category is what bears watching in the finale against the fish. Allen has shown he can take over a game running the ball. What Bills fans should hope for against a deflated Miami team is that he finally takes over a game with his arm. We all know about the well-documented issues the Bills pass catchers have with doing just that: catching the ball. There are plenty of balls, however Russell Bodine Jerseys 2019 , that Allen simply needs to be better on. Yes, he’s still a green quarterback, and there have been signs of improvement, but in the last game of the season, it would be a huge boost to the franchise and fan base if the Wyoming product can just go off. 300 yards and three touchdowns would be a fantastic sendoff to 2018 and a springboard into 2019. RB LeSean McCoyIn a season everyone would rather soon forget, no one would like to develop some amnesia more than Shady. By virtually any measure, McCoy has had the worst season of his Hall of Fame career. His off-the-field issues are well documented and his on-field performance is lackluster. A good chunk of the blame can be put on a horrendous performance by the offensive line. McCoy, though, has been too indecisive and is looking to hit the home run every play, instead of simply taking what is there. Those things combine to make McCoy’s future somewhat murky. Sean McDermott and Shady have said all the right things about wanting him to return, but words in football can prove to ring hollow once the off-season hits. What fans should watch for is any signs of the, ahem White Phillip Gaines Jerseys , real McCoy. A strong performance against the Dolphins may be what’s needed to keep this union together.LBTremaine EdmundsThe rookie linebacker has had a successful season filled with hard-earned lessons and highlights. Edmunds has proved his ability to be an every down backer and has started to show a nose for the ball. The 20-year-old makes the watch list, because he is simply fun to watch. When he correctly diagnoses a play, watch him explode to blow said play up. As the season has progressed, that has happened more and more simply from experience. 2019 should be a breakout year for Edmunds and this finale hopefully provides a launching point for him. CBTre’Davious WhiteThere may be some push-back from this, but something about White has just seemed off since the first Miami game. The normally feisty White has seemed subdued and he has been toasted on some plays where he was there to make a play. If anything, it’s hopefully just a blip on the radar, but the second-year corner can alleviate any concerns with a solid performance against Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins. A solid performance doesn’t require three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Simply not hearing his name would be a good performance because that would mean there were no flags and he smothered his man. New,83commentsChecking on some of the draft news we might have missed in the lead-up to draft nightEDTShareTweetShareShareDraft Notebook, 4/18 Edition - One week to go! Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsThe 2019 NFL Draft is officially one week away. Teams are in the final stages of setting their draft boards and top decision makers will spend the upcoming holiday weekend discussing strategy. There have been so many rumors and news nuggets, as well as so, so Womens Carl Banks Jersey , much smoke billowing out of the various outlets that it is a bit hard to keep track of everything. So let’s take this opportunity to go back and take a second look at some of the things we might have missed for all the noise.Catching up on Dwayne Haskins Predicting who the Giants will draft at sixth overall is, as Ed has described it, a “crap shoot.” But we do know they at least appear to have done their due dilligence on the 2019 quarterback class. A huge contingent of the Giants’ top brass hit the road to watch Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Will Grier, Drew Lock, and Daniel Jones in person, then bringing them in to their facilities for Top 30 visits. The last of those visits went to Dwayne Haskins, who the Giants hosted for the draft version of a slumber party. The last day of official visits was Wednesday, April 17th, and the Giants’ leadership had dinner with Haskins on the night of the 15th before hosting him in their facilities for his official visit on the 16th. We don’t know how the Giants feel about Haskins, but he is saying all the right things. In a guest appearance on Ian Rapoport’s podcast, Haskins said that he welcomed the opportunity to sit behind Eli Manning, saying “Eli Manning is a legend. I grew up watching Eli and I’d have no problem sitting behind him and learning from him Mark Bavaro Jersey , like how I did with J.T. [Barrett] at Ohio State,” Haskins told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on the RapSheet and Friends podcast. “Whatever team drafts me, I’ll be able to sit back and learn from the guy that’s there and be able to compete with him and push him, but know that a guy’s there because he’s a veteran, he’s done it before, he’s professional.”That has to appeal to a Giants team which is still all-in on Manning as their best option at quarterback. It also has to appeal to the local media as well. It’s fair to say that if the Giants select Haskins, it will be the Football Gods’ gift to the NYC back pages. A “local boy made good,” who went to the Giants’ youth camps after the team beat the 18-0 New England Patriots, getting to live out his dream by quarterbacking the team he grew up loving? The human-interest stories practically write themselves. Reverse draftIn a nice shake-up from the endless deluge of mock drafts that make up most of our media diet this time of year, Spencer Hall put together a “Reverse Mock Draft” over on the SB Nation main page. Essentially, it looks at the top prospects as though they were free agents who could sign wherever they wanted. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he pairs Haskins and the Giants as an “ideal” match. I would definitely encourage everyone to check out the whole piece. It’s a nice change of pace and an entertaining read.Quinnen Williams? Well, the Giants can dream, can’t they?Haskins wasn’t the only last-minute Top - 30 visit for the Giants. A day after the Giants hosted Haskins http://www.giantslockerroom.com/authentic-eli-manning-jersey , they had Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams in for a visit. Quinnen Williams (as opposed to Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams) isn’t likely to fall to the Giants at sixth overall. He is widely regarded as one of the three best players in the draft, and commonly called the best player in the draft. But it is within the realm of possibility, and he is the one player we can say unequivocally that Dave Gettleman would draft regardless of who else is on the board.Gettleman’s draft tendenciesThere’s a reason why I say that the Giants would select Williams over any other player in this draft: Dave Gettleman loves him some defensive tackles. In a piece for The Ringer, looking at some of the biggest draft tendencies in the NFL, Robert Mays identifies the defensive line, and defensive tackle position in particular, as the apple of Gettleman’s eye. That Gettleman loves defensive linemen shouldn’t be much of a surprise as it is a trait he shares with Jerry Reese (who drafted either an offensive lineman, defensive lineman, or both in the first three rounds of eight of his eleven drafts) and both of them learned under Ernie Accorsi.

The first installment of our ‘What If...’-series."This article is the first of a series that I will be working on this offseason: I’ll be taking a look back at some of the moments that altered the course of the Patriots franchise, and wondering what might have happened if they didn’t. I’m going to start with, arguably, the most important. The date was September 23, 2001. The country was still reeling from 9/11, and fans were just happy to get back to some normalcy after the NFL took the previous weekend off. The Patriots’ game against the Jets started with Joe Andruzzi running out of the tunnel with two American flags, and his brothers, all NY firefighters Ryan Allen Jerseys 2019 , being the honorary team captains. There was a very bittersweet feeling in the crowd, we were happy to be back at the Patriots game, but we also knew that all of our lives would be changed forever.Little did we know, Patriots games were about to change forever as well. Drew Bledsoe had just signed a 10-year, $103 million contract that offseason, and looked like he would be the Patriots starting quarterback for the rest of his career. After going 5-11 the previous season, fans were looking for the team to turn things around this season with their second-year coach, Bill Belichick. And, unbeknownst to many people, Tom Brady had worked his way from fourth string to backup QB in one season. It was an ugly game, and the Patriots were losing 10-3 to their AFC East rivals. Bledsoe threw a pair of bad interceptions, one happening in the end zone, and Marc Edwards had two fumbles, both in Jets territory. With just over five minutes left in the game, Bledsoe was forced out of the pocket and started running towards the sideline. He was being chased by Mo Lewis, and, just before he could get out of bounds, Lewis caught up to him.The hit that Lewis delivered to Bledsoe has been talked about by many of the Patriots on the sideline that day. Some say it’s the hardest they have ever heard, and I’ve even heard that Bledsoe’s facemask was actually bent in. One thing is for sure White James Develin Jerseys , Bledsoe is one of the toughest QBs in pro football history. That play happened on third down, so the Patriots had to punt, when they got the ball back, Bledsoe was the QB who went into the game.He even led the Patriots into Jets territory, before Edwards fumbled away their chance at tying the game. When the Patriots got the ball back after the Jets went three-and-out, it was Brady who would lead them onto the field. That made sense, since Bledsoe literally almost died that night. He had suffered a hemothorax, and there was blood pouring into his belly — in fact, there ended up being three liters of blood in his belly. He was in and out of consciousness during his ambulance ride to the hospital. It resulted from a blood vessel tearing in his chest, something that most doctors agree almost never happens as a result of a sports injury (there’s a fascinating Sports Illustrated article from a few years ago about how his injury has changed the way team doctors approach injuries to their players). We all know what happened after Bledsoe’s injury: Tom Brady stepped in and never looked back. The Patriots, thanks, in part, to Bledsoe coming off the bench in the AFC Championship Game, won Super Bowl 36, and five more since. But what would have happened if Bledsoe never went down?I don’t think it’s reasonable to assume that Brady would’ve ended up starting a game in 2001. I know that some people (my dad included), feel that Brady was going to take over in 2001 no matter what, but I just find it hard to believe. Forget the fact that Bledsoe had signed the richest deal in NFL history that offseason and had been the starting QB since being drafted first overall in 1993. The team loved Bledsoe. He was a leader in the locker room, and one of the most respected players on the team. Even to this day, with Brady being the QB that won them the Super Bowl James Develin Jerseys 2019 , the majority of the members of that 2001 team still consider it to be Bledsoe’s team. I can’t imagine having a squad made up of mostly veterans and pulling the plug on your starter mid-season.Without Brady as the starter, would the Patriots have been even close to the team they ended up being? There’s no way to know for sure, but I don’t think so. Primarily because I think Brady was better equipped to run Belichick’s offense. He was willing to take the short, check-down passes that the offense is built on, whereas Bledsoe was more of a gunslinger, looking at his downfield reads first. This doesn’t mean that he couldn’t be good in that system (although his completion percentage was well below 60% the year before), but there’s a real chance they may not have made the playoffs, never mind winning the Super Bowl.So let’s turn our attention to the offseason. Would Belichick have made the decision to move on from Bledsoe and insert Brady as the starter before the 2002 season? Brady’s contract ran through 2003, but Bledsoe had an option before the 2002 season that would’ve allowed the Patriots to cut him without suffering much of a penalty. The problem is that the rest of the NFL still thought highly of Bledsoe, and, if there’s one thing Belichick prides himself on, it’s maximizing his assets. So maybe Belichick would’ve traded Bledsoe during the offseason and moved on with Brady. Here’s the problem with that: as I already said, Bledsoe was one of the most respected guys in the locker room, and they would not have been happy if Bledsoe had been shipped off in favor of some sixth round pick. They would’ve gotten over it, and been just fine, but one would imagine that the chemistry in the locker room would be far different if that is how the Bledsoe to Brady transition had happened. Would they have been as galvanized and close-knit as they would become? As I said, there’s no way to know, but it’s hard to believe they would have. One thing that I think is reasonable to assume is that Belichick would eventually have moved on from Bledsoe in favor of Brady. If you don’t believe that, let’s go back to Cleveland Infant Byron Cowart Jersey , where he cut hometown hero Bernie Kosar just five weeks after signing a 5-year, $37 million contract extension. Yes, Bledsoe had signed the richest deal in NFL history before the 2001 season, but, as with most NFL contracts, it wasn’t that simple. There were multiple option years, where the Patriots could cut Bledsoe at very little cost to them, including one after the first season of the contract. All of those signs point to the Patriots being able to move on from Bledsoe fairly easily. But what if he didn’t? What if he thought Bledsoe was good enough that he had to move on from Brady, kind of like how he moved on from Jimmy Garoppolo? I find it highly unlikely that would have been the case, but both of these greats would be so very different. Belichick is the best coach ever, and Brady is the best player ever, but they both benefited so much from having the other. Would they have been able to reach the heights they have without one another? There are many people that have many different opinions on how things would’ve turned out if Bledsoe had been healthy the entire 2001 season, and they’re all pretty valid. Maybe there’s an alternate universe where Bledsoe stayed healthy, and these questions would all be answered. I’m just happy I live in a world where we never had to find out.If you have any ‘What If’s...’ you’d like to see, or one that you’ve often thought about, be sure to comment here, or tweet at us! He is very raw as a player but is still hard to cover. He drew numerous pass interference penalties because he was so difficult to play against. He is tall, fast, quick, and can jump over you. He would be a monster for any NFL CB to cover even as he is now. He has strong hands and has made numerous one-handed catches. He has a huge catch radius and super loose hips to get in and out of breaks smoothly. He would be great with back shoulder throws. Once he gets up to speed a CB would have to get on his horse and in no way be able to cover the back shoulder of Boykin. His sheer size makes him a box out candidate on most throws. On this route he just basically runs by the DBs, not showing a lot of trickery. He gets turned around enough to get himself square to the QB. When he reaches up the CB tries to jump and deflect the throw, but he is a good half foot away from the ball. If he was more schooled in receiving he would have slowed down and stacked the CB on his back, then reached up and grabbed the pass...but this worked. This is another play that doesn’t take much route knowledge. He again just runs by the CB and catches a TD Trumaine Johnson Jerseys 2019 ,At the top of the screen you can see the CB is in press coverage and doesn’t even lay a finger on Boykin on his release. Once he crosses his face, the CB is burnt. The QB has a straight shot to Boykin, and as long as he can get the ball long enough it’s a TD.This next GIF is what I was talking about earlier. The ball is late, but still this back shouler throw is deadly because of the speed of the receiver. The CB never knows the ball is coming. He can’t get his head around to see the ball.If Boykin runs hard down the sideline, and the QB is accurate and on time with his throw as long as Boykin doesn’t stop or look back prematurely this play is unstoppable in a one on one scenario. These next few GIFs will show you how size matters to a receiver. Remember Boykin isn’t just tall. He is like trying to tackle a moose when he is squared up, and his momentum is vertical. He blasts through those arm tackles like they are nothing. CBs will have a difficult time tackling Boykin unless they go low and take out the legs. The next clip is spectacular because of the catch.Again there is no CB who can cover this play because of the size of Boykin. Here is the same play from another angle. This play starts with 1 minute 38 seconds left in the game and Notre Dame trailing by 3 in the Citrus Bowl. Notre Dame won the game because of this play 21-17. Size matters. The only reason that Notre Dame was even in the position to make a game changing play is because of this nice catch on a 3rd and 19 play with Notre Dame down 14 to 6.He powered through press man coverage and held onto the ball after taking a big hit. The player #25, by the way, is Greedy Wiliams who should be a late 1st round selection in a few days. He only had 3 receptions in this game, and you saw two of them. These were enough to get him the Citrus Bowl MVP for the game. Here is another TD on a ball that is thrown way too late. The only nuance to this route is the jab step left that backs the defender off and gives him the room and time to get outside all alone. The late throw is the only reason you see the CB even close to the play. Boykin does a nice job of catching the ball with his hands and away from his body. He also turned to give his QB a big target to throw at.So far you can see that Boykin has made all his plays with his physical prowess without any real skill involved. This last clip he shows you some forethought Boykin shows while running this route.Stanford is playing a cover 2 zone. The play is designed to bring the slot receiver into the flat to occupy #13 the right corner so he doesn’t drop back on the play. The ILB #27 Sean Barton drops back into the passing lane with the safety #5 Frank Buncom playing the deep right quarter of the field. The hole in the zone is on the sideline about 20 yards downfield. It’s a rhythm throw as Boykin has to get there as the QB arcs the ball over #25 and onto Boykin. Again it’s nice to be tall. This was a big play with only about a minute left in the half. There you have it. Boykin has all kinds of physical talent, but he has not to this point developed into a efficient, skilled receiver; and you have to wonder why not?He only played in 26 college games, starting in only half of them. He has no idea how to read a defense White Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys , work a CB or even basic nuances of route running yet he still caught 59 ball and had 8 TDs; all with very poor QB play. He makes contested catches, receptions where he gets hit soundly and still holds onto the ball. He would be a red zone target right away for any team, and if he can develop you have a game breaker. So what do you think? And as always GO JETS When the agent for Vikings free agent linebacker Anthony Barr got on the phone to tell his client about a five-year, $75 million deal with the Jets, it was supposed to be a celebration. But Barr didn’t see it that way, with immediate hesitation that led him to back out on the deal a day later and return to the Vikings.Agent Ryan Williams told ESPN that he could sense Barr’s lack of enthusiasm over what appeared to be a winning lottery ticket.“He said, ‘I feel like I just made the worst mistake of my life,'” Williams said.Because the negotiations happened during the tampering window, Barr couldn’t sign anything anyway until Wednesday. So after the Jets made their offer, which seemed agreed upon, Barr’s second thoughts led his agent to ask the Vikings for a last-ditch chance to keep one of their defensive cornerstones, which came in that Monday night. Tuesday would be decision day.“I was up for all morning Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys 2019 , just looking at my ceiling, just looking for a sign,” Barr said. “Talking to everybody, trying to figure something out. . . .“I was trying to convince myself of something I knew that in my heart didn’t feel right, and I think if you follow the heart, I can live with the results.”It’s not that Barr’s doing poorly with the Vikings, signing a five-year deal with $67.5 million, with $33 million in guarantees. It’s $1.5 million a year less than he’d have made in New York, but that didn’t stop a family celebration that included margaritas, tacos, and tears.“It happened the minute he said I’m going to go back [to Minnesota],” his mother Lori said. “There were tears. It was pure elation — relief White Rishard Matthews Jerseys , appreciation, feeling valued, feeling reconnected. Just a range of emotions but mostly just sincere happiness that he was getting to go back to where he got to start it all and be with the people he loves to be with, with the organization, in a city he really enjoys and has now become his second home. It just really made waiting and not knowing worth it.”The Jets said they understood the business, and wanted guys who were all-in. And the Vikings benefitted from the time built into the system, for Barr to realize the place he was all-in was the place he already was.

That could happen next month, but is more likely in 2020.The 36-year-old Fitzpatrick has a 50-75-1 record as a starter for seven NFL teams. He started seven games for Tampa Bay last year and had a passer rating of 100.4, which ranked ninth in the league. The Dolphins traded Tannehill on Friday to the Tennessee Titans in a deal that also involved draft picks. Tannehill became Miami’s starting quarterback as a rookie in 2012 and never took a snap in the postseason. After Miami went 7-9 last year, owner Stephen Ross fired coach Adam Gase, ordered a youth movement and acknowledged it may take several seasons to build a winner.Fitzpatrick could become Miami’s 20th starting quarterback since Dan Marino retired following 1999 season. The Dolphins and new coach Brian Flores have the 13th choice in the April draft, and might devote their first-round pick to a QB for only the second time since taking Marino in 1984.Fitzpatrick has thrown for 190 touchdowns and 29,357 yards, but has been inconsistent and turnover-prone. He entered the league in 2005, and his longest stay with any team was with the Buffalo Bills in 2009-12.He had four 400-yard passing games last year for the Buccaneers but yielded the starting job to Jameis Winston in November.Fitzpatrick joins two other quarterbacks on the Miami roster, Luke Falk and Jake Rudock. Neither has started in the NFL.With moves made since the hiring of Flores, the Dolphins are given a 200-1 chance to win next season’s Super Bowl, worst in the NFL. A poor record would mean a high first-round draft pick in 2020, and they’re well-positioned to splurge in free agency a year from now. They’re still in the market this offseason for help on the offensive and defensive lines and at cornerback.
