CINCINNATI (AP) — Bengals coach Marvin Lewis exuded

confidence when he fired his defensive coordinator and assumed leadership of the NFL’s worst defense. All he’s gotten is two more losses that have essentially scuttled Cincinnati’s fading hopes. The Bengals are free falling Womens Deatrich Wise Jr Jersey , with no sign of slowing down. And now their starting quarterback is hurt, too.Baker Mayfield set a Browns rookie record with four touchdown passes, and Cleveland ended one of the NFL’s longest streaks of road futility on Sunday with a 35-20 victory over the hapless Bengals, who lost Andy Dalton to a thumb injury. Now what? The Bengals (5-6) can’t do the simple things right, contributing to a streak of five losses in six games. They’ve fallen from first in the AFC North to third, only a half-game ahead of the Browns.“I’ve got to prepare them better,” Lewis said. “OK? It rests with me.”Against the Browns, they were overmatched from the start.Cleveland (4-6-1) won on the road for the first time since 2015, emphatically snapping a streak of 25 straight road losses that was one shy of the Lions’ NFL record. The Browns also ended a run of seven straight losses to their intrastate rival.“It hurts,” Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd said. “It hurts a lot.”The Bengals thought they had one advantage: Hue Jackson on their sideline. It didn’t matter. The Browns fired Jackson a month ago after he won only three games in two-plus seasons as head coach. Lewis fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin after a 51-14 loss to the Saints, installed himself as coordinator, and hired his close friend Jackson to help with the defense. The Browns were bothered by the sight of their former coach on the other sideline plotting against them. When safety Damarious Randall picked off one of Dalton’s passes along the sideline, he stepped out of bounds and handed the ball to Jackson http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-james-harrison-jersey , who patted him on the helmet.Dalton hurt the thumb on his passing hand while trying to recover a fumble in the third quarter and didn’t return. Center Billy Price snapped the ball too high, and Dalton got his hand caught in a scrum for the ball.“I’ve never done that,” Price said of his poor snap. “I just held onto it a little too much and just pulled it.”Dalton left the field immediately for testing. Lewis said the injury doesn’t appear to be season-ending, but more tests were being performed. The Browns turned the fumble recovery into Mayfield’s fourth TD pass for a 35-7 lead. Dalton was 10 of 17 for 100 yards with a touchdown and an interception.Jeff Driskel took over and went 17 of 29 for 155 yards with a touchdown pass and a TD run. He’ll start against the Broncos next Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium if Dalton can’t play.“I know personally what I’ve known all along, and that’s that I can play at this level and give our team a chance to win,” Driskel said. The Bengals already were missing cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, receiver A.J. Green and left tackle Cordy Glenn, inactive with injuries. Jake Fisher started at left tackle and hurt his back late in the first half. Cornerback Tony McRae suffered a concussion in the third quarter and gave two thumbs-up as he was wheeled off the field. ATLANTA (AP) — Julian Edelman was forced to watch only as a spectator as his disappointed New England Patriots teammates trudged off the field a year ago as Super Bowl losers.Catch after catch in this one, Tom Brady’s favorite wide receiver helped make them winners again.“It’s pretty surreal,” Edelman said, shaking his head. “Tough times don’t last, tough people do. I preach that, and Isaiah Wynn Jersey , I guess you have to live to it.”Edelman certainly did Sunday night, earning Super Bowl MVP honors with 10 receptions for 141 yards while helping lift the Patriots to a 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.“My name was called,” he said. “I was asked to make a couple plays and we were able to do that.”Edelman and Brady made one final connection — at midfield with confetti flying around them. They embraced for several moments — eyes filled with the tears of champions.“The hug was just two Bay Area boys that love football, love to compete and are living out our dreams,” Edelman said before taking a second to clarify one small detail.“I think he held me,” the bushy-bearded Edelman said with a big grin. “I didn’t hold him.”It was an incredibly satisfying ending to a big-time comeback season for Edelman, a guy considered by Brady to be like a little brother — some teammates even jokingly say they have a “bromance” — and widely regarded as one of the greatest slot receivers in league history. And, he was at it again against the Rams.Reliable and steady. All night long.“He’s a fighter, man, that kid,” Brady said. “I’m just so proud of him. He’s been an incredible player for this team in the playoffs and he just cemented himself, again, in the history of the NFL for what his accomplishments are.”Even when things weren’t working early for the Patriots Womens Danny Etling Jersey , Edelman kept the offense going and the clock rolling as a safety valve for Brady. Eight of his catches were for first downs , including a 13-yard grab during the go-ahead touchdown drive with 7 minutes left in the game.“Julian always gives us those kinds of plays,” coach Bill Belichick said. “Tough plays, tough catches, catch-and-run plays, breaking tackles for a few extra yards. He did a tremendous job.”It has been a long journey back to this point for Edelman, who missed all of last season after tearing a knee ligament in New England’s third preseason game. What he did in this Super Bowl was exactly what the Patriots’ offense was missing in last year’s 41-33 loss to Philadelphia.“I mean, injuries are psychologically so hard for an athlete because you don’t get to do what you love to do,” Edelman said. “When your team’s going out there and playing in the Super Bowl and you don’t get to help or you were not a factor, it was definitely very tough.”Edelman was forced to sit out the first four games of this season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancers. And, then, it was uncertain as to whether the 32-year-old receiver would be as productive and effective as he had been throughout his career with the Patriots.Turned out, he was as good as ever. Not bad for the one-time quarterback at Kent State who became the right-hand man for arguably the NFL’s greatest signal-caller.“Oh Youth Isaiah Wynn Jerseys , man, I am so proud of Jules,” fellow receiver Chris Hogan said. “I don’t really have a lot of words to describe what Julian did today. Where he has been and what he’s had to battle and what he has had to overcome, I’m really proud of him.”Edelman finished the regular season with 74 catches and a team-high 850 receiving yards with six touchdowns. He kept it going through New England’s first two playoffs games, hauling in 16 catches for a team-high 247 yards. The Patriots led the Rams just 3-0 at halftime, but Edelman was a big reason for that. He tied a Super Bowl record with seven of his catches in the first two quarters for 93 yards as New England outgained Los Angeles 195-57.Edelman also tied Dallas’ Michael Irvin for the second-most 100-yard receiving games in the postseason with six, just two behind Jerry Rice’s NFL record.“He’s an elite player,” Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said. “He plays hard, found some holes in our defense in the first half and pretty much the third quarter.”Brady had won four of the MVP awards in the Patriots’ previous five Super Bowl victories. It seemed only fitting that Edelman walked off the field with this one.Yep, little brother came up big on the biggest stage.“I’m pretty ecstatic,” Edelman said. “I’m emotionally pooped. I’m physically and emotionally pooped.”

Womens Kelvin Beachum Jersey

With reports that Jets coach and interim G.M. Adam Gase didn’t want Le'Veon Bell (overstated) and/or that Gase thinks the Jets paid too much for Bell (correctly stated) Womens Kelvin Beachum Jersey , chatter has emerged that the Jets could trade Bell.If Gase is inclined to do it, now’s the time given his current power and control over the team. And John Clayton, formerly of ESPN and now a radio host in Seattle, recently said just enough on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh to get people thinking that a trade could happen: “If there’s a suitor, I could absolutely see the Jets trading him before the start of the season.”It’s more likely that the Jets will have a suitor than that the Jets would trade him, however, because Bell already has earned $12 million via signing and roster bonuses. A new team could get him for five years, $40.5 million. That’s the ballpark that likely would have gotten the 49ers to bite in March, but now that the 49ers have signed Tevin Coleman (and already have Jerick McKinnon entering the season year of his own big-money, free-agency deal) they’d likely be interested only if they have (another) rash of ACL tears. It’s unclear whether anyone else would want to acquire Bell’s deal and also give the Jets something for him. An injury to a starter in the last year or two of his contract could be the only thing that triggers serious interest.Still, the Jets would have to be willing to eat $12 million in exchange for Bell playing a grand total of zero games (which is even nuttier than giving a coach full control of a team after having coached a grand total of zero games). That would serve only to add perception of dysfunction atop perception of dysfunction and reinforce the “what the hell are they doing?” vibe that has gripped much of their fan base and the media.Another possibility, as floated by Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, would be a one-and-done arrangement for Bell, with a trade coming in 2020. A new team would be getting a four-year, $38.5 million contract, with $13 million fully guaranteed for 2020. But here’s the thing: If Bell has the kind of back-to-the-future year that would inspire someone to take on a $13 million obligation for 2020 at a position where plenty of young, relatively dirt-cheap options are annually available via the draft and/or undrafted free agency http://www.jetslockerroom.com/authentic-keyshawn-johnson-jersey , that would be the kind of year that would validate the trade and make the Jets far more inclined to keep him.At this point, the best play for the Jets would be to embrace the presence of Bell (when he’s actually, you know, present) and work toward proving that Bell was worth it. And Gase would never be happier to be proven wrong. NEW YORK (AP) — Jamal Adams understands what the New York Jets‘ record shows: a 4-10 squad facing an uncertain future. He also refuses to accept that they are one of the NFL’s worst, no matter what the standings or critics say.“Again, we’re a good football team,” the safety insisted after the Jets’ 29-22 loss to Houston on Saturday night. “We’re obviously in every ballgame besides the Buffalo Bills game, but the rest we’ve been in. So I don’t really know where the speculation of just because we’re losing we’re a bad football team (comes from).“We’ve just got to make more plays and play smarter at certain times.”The Jets have actually played a lot better since losing to Buffalo 41-10 on Nov. 11. A 14-point loss to New England followed, then a seven-point defeat at Tennessee. They snapped a six-game skid with a 27-23 victory at Buffalo last Sunday and then held a late lead before falling to the AFC South-leading Texans. So, a play here or there and the record could look a lot more respectable.Coach Todd Bowles deals in reality, though, and there’s no denying the facts staring him in the face.“Our record is what it is,” Bowles said Sunday when asked about Adams’ postgame comments. “We are a 4-10 football team. We compete our butts off, but no moral victories (for) playing hard. We’ve got to win ballgames.”That, of course, has been much easier said than done this season. And time is running out, with a home game against Green Bay next Sunday followed by the finale at New England.Bowles is likely to be dismissed after that Brent Qvale Jersey , ending a four-year tenure that included no playoff appearances. General manager Mike Maccagnan is also no lock to be back, especially if acting owner Christopher Johnson decides to start from scratch — again. But, is Adams’ overall assessment that far off, as outlandish or optimistic as it seems at face value?Well, for one, the Jets believe they have their franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold , and he has certainly played like one in the two games since he missed three with a foot injury. The No. 3 overall pick is 40 of 62 for 423 yards and three touchdowns with an interception, and showed in both games an ability to take over drives with both his legs and his right arm.“Darnold’s special, and you see it,” cornerback Trumaine Johnson said. “He is special. He has kept us in games, for sure.”For a franchise in flux, having the quarterback to build around is a start. Whether it’s Bowles and Maccagnan or another combination of men in charge, the Jets will head into the offseason expected to have more than $100 million in salary cap space. They’ll have the opportunity to bring in the type of playmakers that could have made a difference in those close losses. On offense, Darnold is working with a line that has been inconsistent and a backfield that is missing its top two players in Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell because of injuries. Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa has been banged-up and the rookie is beginning to establish a rapport with deep threat Robby Anderson.“Obviously, he’s getting comfortable and he’s making plays with his feet and he’s finding the open areas,” Bowles said of Darnold. “He and Robby have had the chance to work together for a while now and it’s just starting to click.”Anderson was targeted 11 times by Darnold against the Texans and finished with seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Against Buffalo, Anderson had four catches for 76 yards and a score on seven targets.“Communication Womens Marcus Maye Jersey , repetition and connecting,” Anderson said of what has changed between him and Darnold since training camp. There’s still some fine-tuning needed, though, as shown when Anderson couldn’t hang onto Darnold’s pass on fourth-and-14 from the Jets 21 late in the game that led to a field goal for the Texans with 57 seconds left.“Every throw that I throw to our receivers, I feel like they can catch,” Darnold said. “But at the same time, I’ve got to put it in a better spot. That’s just the name of the game.”There have also been frequent breakdowns on defense late in games, including allowing Deshaun Watson to march the Texans down the field 75 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. That has been an ongoing theme throughout the season, something that will need to be fixed moving forward, whether it’s adding additional playmakers, a new scheme, or both.“It was just a couple of plays here and there that we could have made,” cornerback Morris Claiborne said. “For the most part, I felt like we put together a good game. Probably one or two plays that separates them. That’s the difference in this league. I felt like we came out with some good energy. We came out and played fast. It just didn’t come out our way.”NOTES: Bowles said RT Brandon Shell was scheduled to have an MRI later Sunday after he was carted off the field with a knee injury. “I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon,” Bowles said. … Bowles said WR Rishard Matthews (hamstring) is also having an MRI, and DB Darryl Roberts has a sprained toe.

Womens Ameer Abdullah Jersey

With injuries to the secondary Womens Ameer Abdullah Jersey , Mike Hughes steps in, and then steps up When the Vikings played the San Francisco 49ers yesterday, the secondary began the game a bit short handed. Starting nickel CB Mackensie Alexander was inactive due to an ankle injury, suffered midway through the preseason, so that meant first round pick Mike Hughes would get some extensive action in his first NFL game. Then in the first half, starting LCB Trae Waynes went out with a knee injury and didn’t return. What was a deep secondary was suddenly thin, and Hughes moved outside, playing every snap, and facing one of the most talented young QB’s in the league.Welcome to the NFL.Hughes was thrown into the fire, and he came out on the other side largely unscathed. By my unofficial count looking at play by play scripts, Hughes was targeted five times, allowing two completions for 48 yards. One was a big 39 yarder to Dante Pettis Marcus Epps Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , one of several uncharacteristic big plays the Vikings defense gave up in their 24-16 win. However, he also had three passes defended, one of which broke up a touchdown. He also had this highlight:For the game, he got a PFF grade of 73.1, compared to a 44.5 grade from Waynes before he went out. Speaking of Waynes, before he left in the second quarter with his knee injury, I have him having two passes completed on him on three targets, for 21 yards and a defensive pass interference penalty. He did, however, have a nice pass break up in the end zone where he stripped the ball from Dante Pettis after it looked like it was going to be a catch and a score:Again, just so we’re clear, I’m just reviewing play by play scripts Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , not watching a replay of the game, so the overall numbers could be off a bit. The bottom line for me is that Hughes played a good game, and in the limited time he was in, Waynes appeared to struggle. When Hughes was drafted, there were a lot of fans and experts surprised that Minnesota didn’t take an offensive lineman in the first round. They took T Brian O’Neill in the second, though, then signed Tom Compton in free agency, and then traded for Brett Jones a couple weeks ago, so the line was addressed. Just not in the manner in which folks thought it should have, which is what I think is the main reason for the complaining. That approach to both positions by the VIkings goes to the larger philosophy that it’s easier to find a serviceable interior offensive lineman than it is a good cornerback, so with no clear lineman on the board, the Vikes took Hughes. Now that pick seems prescient. With injuries to Alexander and now Waynes Trae Waynes Jersey , and Terence Newman trading in his helmet for a whistle, what was one of the deepest secondaries in the league got thin awfully fast, and if Hughes hadn’t been there, Holton Hill and Marcus Sherels would have been the top two CB’s. Because of injuries, Hughes played 52 off 66 defensive snaps, or 79% of the game. S Jayron Kearse even saw some time at nickel, and Hill did too, but only for a handful of plays.Hill shows a ton of promise, but I don’t think he’s nearly as talented or polished as Hughes is at this stage of their careers. He may be one day, but right now it’s not even close.Mike Zimmer praised both Kearse and Hill for stepping up and playing roles they weren’t used to, but if Hughes isn’t there yesterday, do the Vikings win 24-16? No. Do they even win the game? I don’t know.Alexander’s ankle injury and the knee injury Waynes suffered might be minor Eric Kendricks Jersey , but they could be things that linger. Anything that affects a player’s ability to move and cut, especially at the corner position, can be things that could be season altering issues, and having a solid player like Hughes gives the Vikings position flexibility because he can play both the slot and on the outside. The injuries to Alexander and Waynes are still concerning though, because losing two guys this early in one position group means there’s no room for error injury-wise until one or both can come back. The sooner they’re back, the better. Not only for position depth, but for other reasons, too. I’m not saying Hughes needs to be the immediate starter at LCB, or even the nickel spot, but I am saying both Alexander and Waynes need to read up on a guy named Wally Pipp. Because if Hughes keeps playing well, not only is the squawking about drafting him over a guard going to subside (lol wait no it won’t who am I kidding), it’s going to be tougher and tougher for either Alexander or Waynes to get back on the field when they do get healthy. The Giants could be close to adding another piece to an offense that could use the help. Unless they aren’t.The agent for former Vikings tackle-guard Mike Remmers just tweeted out word that his visit with the Giants went well.“Mike Remmers just wrapped up a great visit with the New York Giants Infant Marcus Epps Jersey ,” agent Brett Tessler wrote. “Very good chance we could be getting something done with them in the not too distant future.Moments later, Tessler followed up with the following.“Just to clarify, nothing imminent between Mike Remmers and the New York Giants,” he wrote. “The interest is mutual and we will be staying in touch. Good chance something could happen a little further down the road.”While negotiations often take turns like this, it seems like a good fit. Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman has background with Remmers from their days in Carolina, and the Giants could use some help at right tackle.

The Vikings had low expectations in 2017 Mike Daniels Jersey , especially after quarterback Sam Bradford made an early exit with a knee injury. They grossly surpassed them.In 2018, the expectations became sky high, with the arrival of quarterback Kirk Cousins. They failed to even make it to the playoffs. This year, the expectations are sort of in the middle. On Sunday, the Vikings performed like anything but a sort-of-in-the-middle team, smashing the Falcons, 28-12.But defensive end and team captain Everson Griffen has a warning for his teammates.“Don’t take the cheese,” Griffen told PFT by phone after Sunday’s victory. “There’s a long way to go. This is just the beginning.”The worst thing any team can do is listen to external praise and hype, but in this day and age it’s virtually impossible to tune it out. If they keep winning, the hype will grow Jaire Alexander Jersey , and they’ll have to deal with it, without losing focus on the one-game-at-a-time task at hand.In six days, the Vikings will literally try to take the cheese, when making their annual trip to Lambeau Field. Last year, the two teams battled to an epic 29-29 overtime tie. This year, the winner (if there is one) will take early control of the NFC North. Anyone watching the Green Bay Packers this season can tell that something is off with Aaron Rodgers. The two-time MVP isn’t playing anywhere near his normal high standard of football, looking truly ordinary at times.Sure, Rodgers’ mobility and ability to step into his throws has been limited by his left knee injury, but without a brace on Sunday night Packers fans should reasonably have expected some improvement in that area. Instead, Rodgers still was not showing his trademark accuracy and threw several ugly passes while falling backwards. That all combined for one of the uglier stat lines of the season Kingsley Keke Green Bay Packers Jersey , as he completed just 56% of his passes at 6.02 yards per attempt.Perhaps issues with the Packers’ offensive scheme are compounding Rodgers’ physical limitations. After Sunday’s game, he discussed needing to feed his top receiver a bit more (more on that in a moment) but he just doesn’t seem comfortable, either with the playcalls or the personnel on the field.Ultimately, Rodgers still isn’t the reason the Packers are losing games this season, as he has only thrown one interception (though he has fumbled six times). It’s just that too often this year he isn’t winning games either. Let’s look at more on Rodgers in today’s curds.Aaron Rodgers’ lack of accuracy, zip concerning | Packersnews.comThis piece helps describe some of the thoughts that I had while watching Sunday’s game. Although Rodgers has typically been able to throw accurately and with great velocity despite bad mechanics, that doesn’t appear to be the case this year. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers‘ head-coaching vacancy should be appealing for one big reason. He plays quarterback and signed a four-year, $134 million contract extension this year.Two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, though, will not be involved in the process of selecting Mike McCarthy’s successor, but is free to provide input, team president Mark Murphy said on Monday. And that seems fine with Rodgers, who said he was focused on the Packers’ final four games under interim coach Joe Philbin.“I think there’s an interest in who the next guy will be, but (Murphy and general manager Brian Gutekunst) and I have always had good lines of communication, their offices, like they say, are always open,” Rodgers said. “I’m not needing to be involved in that process.”Murphy said Rodgers was also not part of the decision to fire McCarthy following the stunning 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday that dropped Green Bay to 4-7-1. Chances of making the playoffs are slim.It appeared that most players had already left Lambeau Field by that point, with many Packers saying they had learned of the firing on social media or through text messages.“Found out probably the same way you did at the same time you did,” receiver Davante Adams said on Monday. “I was definitely surprised. But Ka'dar Hollman Green Bay Packers Jersey , it’s a business and business is business, and that’s what it is.”Rodgers was already home to celebrate his 35th birthday when he found out.“I’m sure I found out the same way that most of you found out,” Rodgers said, “and was just as shocked as many of you were.”He planned to reach out to McCarthy later Monday.“I think him and I, like any relationship, we have our amazing times, we have our times where we butt heads,” Rodgers said. “But the basis, like I said, was built on mutual respect and communication. …We spent time together and growing our friendship and we accomplished a lot together.”From Adams to Rodgers, nearly every player in the locker room spoke highly of McCarthy, who overall had a successful tenure of 12-plus seasons highlighted by a Super Bowl win in the 2010 season. The 55-year-old McCarthy led the Packers to nine playoff appearances and four trips to the NFC title game overall. But offensive struggles this year followed a 2017 season in which Rodgers broke his right collarbone and the team missed the postseason. In 2016, the Packers started 4-6 before winning eight straight to get to the conference championship game.Murphy said it was time to make a change after the embarrassing loss to Arizona.“I don’t want to get into the details, but he was very professional Ka'dar Hollman Jersey 2019 ,” Murphy said when asked how McCarthy reacted to his dismissal. “He’s a first-class person … and made a comment that, ‘It’s the coaching profession. I know what I got into when I became a coach.'”Gutekunst will be heavily involved, along with a committee, in hiring the next coach, though the decision will belong to Murphy, the highest-ranking executive in the NFL’s only publicly owned franchise. He adjusted the Packers’ organizational structure in January, when Gutekunst was promoted to replace Ted Thompson as GM, to have McCarthy report directly to the team president.“The structure, again, you’re focused on the structure,” Murphy said in response to one of several questions about how the Packers’ organizational flow chart could be perceived by potential coaching candidates. “The most important thing is the people and the relationships.“Brian and I have a great relationship,” Murphy said. “I think we’ll be in good shape, and I’m confident we’ll be able to hire an excellent coach.”Murphy has more football experience than the average team president, having played safety under Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs for the Washington Redskins. Also a lawyer Ka'dar Hollman Jersey Mens , Murphy had extensive experience in sports administration before becoming Packers president/CEO in 2007. He was athletic director at Northwestern, where he hired coach Pat Fitzgerald, before coming to Green Bay.Murphy also views Philbin as a candidate. He would like to evaluate the veteran assistant and former Dolphins head coach over the next four weeks.Off the field, the move to dismiss McCarthy gave the Packers an early start on the coaching search. Murphy and Gutekunst offered few specifics when asked what they were looking for in the next coach, other than that would the team would wait until after the season to make a hire.“I think this decision was about changing our course more than anything,” Gutekunst said. “We just felt like it was a time to change the course.” The injury report is officially out for the week 3 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos. The most notable name left off the Inactives list is Jimmy Graham. Kyler Fackrell will also play. The Broncos defense is not what they once were, and have yet to record a sack this season. Rodgers should have plenty of time in the backfield, and players like Jimmy Graham and other wide receivers should get more chances this week. The Broncos will be without their right tackle Ja’Wuan James who was ruled out on Friday's injury report. This is good news for the Packers defense, who through the first two weeks have created the most QB pressures in the league. Look for them to continue to find themselves in the backfield all game long. Cornerback Bryce Callahan is also officially out, which means an already struggling defense is going to be without another player. This is great news for the Packers offense who are looking to get more out of their receiving corps.

Buffalo Bills injury report: LeSean McCoy 2019 Ed Oliver Jersey , Kyle Williams sitting Like most teams in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills are dealing with their fair share of injuries after two weeks of preseason action. Several high-profile veterans, notably Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy (sore groin) and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee injury) sat out Monday’s practice session. McCoy’s injury shouldn’t sideline him for too long, while Williams is week-to-week with his ailment. After getting the good news that quarterback AJ McCarron didn’t break his collarbone in the 19-17 win over the Cleveland Browns Friday night, head coach Sean McDermott provided a brief update on his injured quarterback, who was in the running to win the starting QB job before suffering the injury. “Nothing really new, but we’re still working through some things here. He will not practice [Monday], so no real change as far as that’s concerned,” McDermott said. When asked if he had any sense of a rough timetable for McCarron’s return, McDermott added: “Not at this point Vosean Joseph Buffalo Bills Jersey , we really don’t. We’re just taking it one day at a time. I’m passing along information to you as I get it from our medical staff.”Veteran defensive end Trent Murphy, who has been dealing with a groin injury, was fully dressed for practice but spent his time working with the Bills’ training staff. Wide receiver Brandon Reilly, who is dealing with an injury to his ribs, was seen sporting the red non-contact jersey during Monday’s session, but was also observed taking part in individual wide receiver drills. Meanwhile, safety Kelcie McCray missed practice with an unknown injury. The Bills hit the field again today at One Bills Drive. LeSean McCoy's ex-girlfriend says in a new court filing that the Buffalo Bills running back physically abused her and orchestrated a home invasion that left her beaten and bloodied.Delicia Cordon on Tuesday filed an amended lawsuit against McCoy alleging physical abuse during their nearly two-year relationship. She also accuses him of arranging a July 10 attack at a home McCoy owns in Milton, just outside Atlanta, where Cordon lived. The armed intruder demanded specific pieces of jewelry McCoy had given Cordon and repeatedly asked her to return, the lawsuit said. The amended lawsuit seeks more than $50 million in damages.Cordon and McCoy began dating in June 2016 Vosean Joseph NFL Draft , but problems began following the 2016 NFL season when he became physically abusive, the amended lawsuit says."He would often grab (Cordon) in a manner that was painful and would leave (her) skin reddened," it says. "McCoy did not care who was around when he would become enraged. McCoy once physically kicked (Cordon) out of the bed."McCoy has repeatedly proclaimed his innocence and did so again when speaking to reporters after practice Wednesday."I can't control that," he said when asked about Cordon's new allegations. "The only thing I can do is focus on my team, try and get better, and let things off the field take care of themselves."He said he's been "proclaiming innocence since Day 1."To make up for his bad behavior, the amended lawsuit says, McCoy would apologize and buy Cordon gifts. But when they argued, he would demand that she return jewelry he'd given her.According to the lawsuit, Cordon loved McCoy and believed he loved her Vosean Joseph NFL Jersey , so she "sought to make their relationship work despite the fact that McCoy was physically abusive to her." She also didn't want to damage his reputation as an NFL player and hadn't revealed the alleged abuse before filing the amended lawsuit, it says.Cordon's original lawsuit, filed Aug. 10, didn't mention physical abuse against her. It also didn't directly accuse McCoy of playing a role in the home invasion. Instead, it accused him of breaching his duty to protect her because he owned the home. It also alleged McCoy "permitted a hazardous condition to exist" by having his friend and personal assistant Tamarcus Porter install a new security system and cameras in June and denying her access to arm the system. The version filed Tuesday says McCoy, through Porter, "arranged for the assailant" who attacked Cordon and her friend, Elizabeth Donald, to come into the home to retrieve the jewelry McCoy had repeatedly demanded Cordon return.Donald has also sued McCoy and Porter.Milton police have not arrested anyone in the home invasion. They said in a statement last month that detectives had "encountered numerous obstacles by all involved" and had noticed multiple inconsistencies from people who had provided statements. In an automatic response to an email seeking an update Wednesday, Capt. Charles Barstow said "despite multiple requests Vosean Joseph Jersey Draft , Mr. McCoy has been unavailable to speak directly to detectives."The new version of the lawsuit also expands on Cordon's previous allegations that McCoy abused his young son and dog. Stephanie Maisonet, the mother of McCoy's young son, said in a sworn statement filed in the case that McCoy had physically abused the boy. McCoy responded in a statement on Twitter at the time, calling the allegations "provably false, outrageously inaccurate and offensive."AP sports writer John Wawrow in Orchard Park, New York, contributed to this report.

Will that be enough to earn him another season with the Giants? Simonson was with the Oakland Raiders in 2014, and was with the Panthers from 2015 through 2017 Kerry Wynn Jerseys 2019 , spending the 2017 season on injured reserve.Simonson joined the Giants in 2018. He played a full 16-game season for the first time and caught nine passes after having only one reception in 18 previous NFL games.2019 outlook Simonson, Rhett Ellison and Evan Engram were the tight end trio a year ago. They could be again, but after an impressive spring undrafted free agent C.J. Conrad appears poised to make a serious bid for a roster spot.Simonson would appear to be the most vulnerable of the trio, though perhaps Ellison could be in jeopardy if the Giants are looking to save real salary cap space. If he makes the roster, Simonson provides decent depth as an added blocker and a reliable enough target on underneath throws. We knew all along that Dave Gettleman has an extreme love for both big men and the defensive tackle position, so the selection of Lawrence shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Lawrence is both of those things, at 6-foot-4, 342 pounds. But despite his size he was only at nose tackle for roughly 48 percent of his snaps at Clemson. Lawrence is stout against the run but didn’t offer much as a pass rusher at Clemson. Sports Info Solutions credits Lawrence with 4.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss over the last two seasons, though he did generate 45 pressures over that span. There are questions regarding Lawrence’s stamina and ability to play a heavy load of snaps Rhett Ellison Jerseys 2019 , but with a rotation of B.J. Hill, Dalvin Tomlinson, and Dexter Lawrence, the Giants should be able to keep all three of their big linemen fresh. Each of the three tackles has the ability to play multiple positions on the defensive line and it will be very difficult to run up the middle on the Giants when all three are on the field.Lawrence is an impressive athlete, running a 5.05 second 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine (he did not complete the combine due to an injury suffered running the 40), and moves far better than a player who looks like a pure nose tackle should. Lawrence is a good player White Calvin Munson Jerseys , but now the question is how the Giants will address their pass rush, which was among the worst in the league without Olivier Vernon. Dan Pizzuta and I ranked Lawrence as a fringe first-second round pick on the Big Blue View Big Board.

ATLANTA (AP) — Teammates have called their relationship a “bromance.

”Patriots quarterback Tom Brady himself openly uses the word love to describe his bond with Julian Edelman Ja'Whaun Bentley Jersey , a receiverhe’s come to depend on during his career. As the duo prepares to play in a fourth Super Bowl together, each says the connection might be tighter ever — both on and off the field.“We have a great relationship, Jules and I, and I trust him so much,” Brady says. “He’s always been kind of like my little brother, in a good way. I don’t have a little brother, but he’s kind of like a little brother and he knows how much I love him.”In Edelman’s case, it’s a little brother who has established himself as one of the best slot receivers in Patriots history. He missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL and the first four games of this season for violating the league’s performance enhancers policy. But the 32-year-old helped Brady steady an offense that struggled early this season and had to adjust following the suspension of Josh Gordon heading into the final two games.Edelman ended the regular season with a team-high 850 receiving yards and was second on the team with 74 receptions and six touchdowns. His production has continued through New England’s first two playoffs games, with Edelman hauling in 16 catches for a team-high 247 yards.Heading into the matchup with the Rams, his 1,271 postseason receiving yards are the most in Patriots history. There are also just two receivers in NFL postseason history with over 100 catches: Jerry Rice with 151 and Edelman with 105.It’s earned him high compliments not only from Brady, but from Rice, who praised Edelman as someone who has an attitude of “‘I’m going to do what I want to do, and I’m going to go out and I’m going to ball.”It not unlike the determination used to describe Brady, who at age 41 continues to prove his skeptics wrong.“He’s a really good football player Womens Phillip Dorsett Jersey , the best,” Edelman said. “He goes out and he consistently proves it. He’s one of our leaders and he’s a leader for a reason.”Though they first met as teammates in New England when Edelman was drafted by the Patriots a decade ago, he and Brady took remarkably similar paths to get to the NFL.Both natives of California, each of them grew up idolizing the San Francisco 49ers’ dynasty led by Joe Montana and Rice.Brady played his college ball at Michigan, with Edelman eventually choosing Kent State across the border in Ohio.Their stories continued to mirror each other when it came time for the NFL draft.Brady infamously wasn’t selected until the sixth round in 2000. Edelman, an undersized quarterback who switched to receiver, didn’t hear his name called until the seventh round in 2009.Chasing the NFL was a leap of faith for Edelman, who nearly signed a contract with the CFL’s British Columbia Lions to play quarterback.“I sat down with my father and basically, he’s like ‘Let’s do it,'” Edelman recalled. “I just had an eerie feeling in my stomach and I told him I didn’t grow up wanting to play in the CFL.I went and tried to play in the NFL. That was my decision. Everything happens for a reason.”Edelman was already a fan of Brady’s when he arrived as a rookie, but he said he almost instantly recognized an underdog spirit in his new quarterback as well.As their relationship has evolved, they say they’ve developed their own sort of silent language on the field, and have unique ways to hype up each other. An example was during the AFC championship game when video captured Edelman in Brady’s face yelling , “You’re too old!” as Brady sat on the bench after throwing a first-half touchdown pass.“You’ve got two fiery guys. I think it’s fun to watch,” Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty said.“You see two guys that are the ultimate competitor. How hard they both compete in practice Youth Dont’a Hightower Jersey , you see the bromance at times, you see the fiery looks they give each other sometimes if someone messes up. Just that look of not disappointment, of just like ‘get it together.’ I think it’s almost like brothers.”Brady said he continues to be amazed by Edelman.“Look at his stature. He wasn’t built like Megatron (Calvin Johnson). He’s just built the way he was built and I think he’s just worked so hard over the years to learn how to play receiver,” Brady said. “He’s just done an incredible job.” After a slow start to the season, the New England Patriots offense has grown into one of the best in the NFL. The unit, which has scored at least 38 points in all of its last four games, now heads into Buffalo today to take on a Bills defense that has had to carry an anemic offense for much of the season. And while it failed to consistently lift the team over its first seven games, the group still has the ability to disrupt an offensive rhythm and make plays. In order for Tom Brady and company to stay ahead of the Buffalo defense, it will need to get off to a fast and keep its foot on the gas 60 minutes — and accomplish the following goals:Establish a presence on the groundThe Patriots will be without starting running back Sony Michel, who suffered a knee injury last Sunday and is considered week-to-week, but they should nevertheless try to run the football on a consistent basis. There are three reasons why this would make sense against a a Bills defense that has its strengths when it comes to stopping the pass and pressuring the quarterback:1. It helps New England control the tempo of the game.2. It keeps the defense honest and should also open up play-action.3. It worked very well for the Indianapolis Colts last week as they had 220 rushing yards. As a result, Kenjon Barner should see plenty of carries as the early down back with James White playing his usual role as a change-of-pace and receiving option. The Patriots could potentially also use wide receiver and kickoff returner Cordarrelle Patterson as a backfield player to mix things up for the Bills. Whoever they use: sticking to the ground game should tremendously help the offense wear down its opponent.Get Rob Gronkowski involved early and oftenThe NFL’s best tight end was limited in practice all week long, but is expected to be good to go tonight. If that is indeed the case and even if New England should decide to limit his overall snap numbers, Gronkowski should play a big role in the Patriots’ offensive game plan. Not only does the 29-year old have a successful history against his hometown team, he also matches up well with the Bills’ defensive scheme. While Buffalo has shown some man-to-man tendencies in the past Dont’a Hightower Jersey Stitched , its defense is primarily based on zone-principles. This, in turn, means that the defenders need to be on top of their game when it comes to communication and diagnosis. The Patriots and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have shown in the past that they know how to effectively counter zone coverages, which could lead to Gronkowski having a big day.He is not only a crisp route runner, after all, but also has a high football IQ and just like his quarterback knows how attack weaknesses in different coverage alignments. In the past, this has oftentimes led to big games against the Bills – and even with Sean McDermott at the helm, this did not change. The Patriots would be smart to go back to the well again today and have Gronkowski serve as a zone beater down the field.Play with a sound ball handling techniqueTaking care of the football is of course important no matter the opponent. Against Buffalo, however, the team will be tested in this area: as head coach Bill Belichick pointed out in his film breakdown of the Bills, the defense is as good as any in the league in going after the football. It is therefore imperative to not get sloppy in handing the ball on receptions, runs, quarterback drop backs and returns – something New England has not always done well this season as the team’s 13 giveaways through seven games reflect.Turnovers can quickly change a game’s momentum and against a team with a struggling offense can generate short fields and easy scoring opportunities. Just ask the Minnesota Vikings: the team was blown out 27-6 by the Bills after allowing 10 points off turnovers in the first quarter. Minnesota was never able to get itself out of the hole as the deficit played into the hands of the Buffalo pass rush.

After trailing by just three points at the half, the Jets offense couldn’t get anything going in the third quarter and the more talented Minnesota Vikings squad gradually pulled away to a three score lead early in the fourth quarter. The Jets tried to mount a comeback with Sam Darnold leading a touchdown drive to pull the Jets within 10 points. A quick three and out by the Vikings gave the Jets great field position in Vikings territory and there was hope of a late comeback. Unfortunately two Darnold interceptions sandwiched around a Vikings touchdown ended all hopes for the Jets. This was a game of terribly shaky play on special teams, awful snaps, and missed opportunities on offense and defense.Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold struggled in the swirling winds, completing just 17 of 42 passes for 206 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions and a 34 passer rating. His receivers didn’t do Darnold any favors, dropping pass after pass after pass. With the loss the Jets record goes to 3-4, and they head back on the road against the Chicago Bears next week for the first time in four games.John will be around for the recap of today’s game a bit later this evening. In the meantime leave your comments on the game below. NEW YORK (AP) — Yes Womens Le'Veon Bell Jersey , that really happened.Sam Darnold sparkled in his NFL debut — after a disastrous first throw, of course — and the New York Jets dominated on offense, defense and special teams for a stunningly complete 48-17 victory over Detroit in their season opener Monday night. And, just like that, hopes have been raised just one week into the season. Well, everywhere outside the Jets’ facility, that is.“Our expectations were like that before the game,” coach Todd Bowles said Tuesday. “So, it doesn’t change any. We had high expectations to begin with. That game changes nothing for us. It was just one game. We’ve got 15 more to go. We’re going to try to win them different ways. Obviously White Nathan Shepherd Jerseys , every week won’t be the same, but our expectations haven’t changed.”Just a few days before the game, Bowles made the matter-of-fact statement that he’s not here to collect a check or go 8-8, which would be a solid improvement on the 5-11 marks the Jets have had the past two years. He said he’s here to try to lead this franchise to a Super Bowl.Sure, that seems like a stretch right now, but his players might be right there with him on that gameplan. They saw what they can accomplish when everything is clicking and what they can be if they can come close to replicating what went on in Detroit.“I know what we’re capable of doing and even that wasn’t our best game,” wide receiver Quincy Enunwa said after the win. “So, I think that going forward we’re going to go ahead and fix the corrections and we’re going to play better every game, that’s our goal.”Next up is the home opener against AFC East-rival Miami Nathan Shepherd Jerseys 2019 , and a chance to open the season 2-0 for the first time since Bowles’ first year as coach in 2015.New York will have a short week after that with a Thursday night game at Cleveland. Three games in 11 games — with some fans on social media and sports radio already thinking about the Jets opening 3-0 since Rex Ryan’s first season as coach in 2009.“The Culture has CHANGED!!” safety Jamal Adams tweeted shortly after the win . “I’ve been telling y’all… the Jets are DIFFERENT this year. This is just the beginning!”Both Adams, who had the first interception of his career, and linebacker Darron Lee, who picked off his first two passes, said they knew what the Lions were doing on just about every play as New York finished with five interceptions of Matthew Stafford.Bowles said Tuesday that it was simply a product of preparation.“No, we didn’t know any audibles,” the coach said. “We didn’t know any plays. I think those guys did a good job of following the assignments that the coaches taught them. And they were anticipating certain things. They have certain formations and they were in the right position and good position to make those types of plays.”Either way, it certainly worked. It helped that Darnold bounced back from a brutal beginning in which the first throw of his NFL career was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Quandre Diggs.Rather than get rattled, the youngest quarterback to start a season opener in the Super Bowl era played with the poise of a veteran. The 21-year-old Darnold finished 16 of 21 for 198 yards and touchdowns to Robby Anderson and Enunwa.“I thought he played well after the first play White Chris Herndon Jerseys ,” Bowles said. “He did some good things. We had some problems with the headset, so we had to call timeout a few times, but that was no fault of his. We just had some headset issues where they weren’t working where he could hear the play, but I thought he handled himself well.”The coaches and players have raved about Darnold’s maturity and football smarts from the day he started practicing with them in May after being the No. 3 overall pick in the draft. Those very attributes were on display in front of a prime-time audience on Monday night.“He’s the same guy every day,” Bowles said of Darnold. “I think that’s important at the quarterback position for you to be the same guy. You know what you’re getting out of the guy and you trust that type of person when you’re the same guy every day, and that’s really been the most impressive thing.”Bowles has both played and coached in the NFL for the better part of the past 30 years and come across lots of young players during that time. The coach senses something simply different about Darnold because of that even-keeled focus already.“It’s great to see,” Bowles said. “It’s rare more nowadays. It was a little more common back then (when Bowles played) for whatever reason, but it’s a little more rare than what I’ve been around and it’s exciting to see because he’s got an old soul. He’s young in age but understands the game very well. He works at it the right way.”

backup wide receiver Brandon Zylstra each had touchdown receptions for Minnesota and the Vikings displayed depth and versatility in their passing game in a 25-19 exhibition victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.Kirk Cousins led the starters for two drives Womens Chris Doleman Jersey , the last one yielding a chip-shot field goal by Dan Bailey, and finished 6 for 8 for 68 yards without a turnover. Second-string quarterback Sean Mannion made up for an interception that safety DeShawn Shead returned 88 yards for a score by finding Smith with a short throw into the end zone just before halftime. Then Kyle Sloter delivered the touchdown pass to Zylstra in the third quarter, polishing off a decent night for an offense that underwent an offseason scheme change after an underwhelming first year with Cousins at the helm. The first team took two turns for the Seahawks, too, and Russell Wilson went 6 for 9 for 82 yards without a turnover after sitting out the preseason opener. He had a 33-yard completion to Jaron Brown, who has a starting wide receiver spot for now following the retirement of Doug Baldwin. First-round draft pick D.K. Metcalf did not play because of a leg injury. Brown’s catch set up the first of four field goals by Jason Myers.Seattle’s pass rush was strong in the first half, with Barkevious Mingo pressuring Mannion as he threw before Chad Beebe was expecting the ball after his turn on a hitch route. The blocking for Minnesota will continue to be the most scrutinized aspect of the team, and the starting offensive line, missing injured right tackle Brian O’Neill, was vulnerable in spots. Cousins and rookie center Garrett Bradbury shared a botched under-center snap resulting in a fumble the Vikings recovered.Mannion went 11 for 14 for 88 yards. Sloter finished 11 for 13 for 116 yards.SAINTS 19, CHARGERS 17CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Taysom Hill had 191 yards of offense and directed three second-half scoring drives to help New Orleans past Los Angeles. In a game where Philip Rivers and Drew Brees were sideline observers, Hill supplied most of the quarterback highlights. The third-year, all-purpose player was 11 of 15 for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 55 yards. New Orleans trailed 17-3 at halftime.Hill threw a 27-yard TD pass to Austin Carr with 3:10 remaining in the third quarter to bring the Saints (1-1) to 17-10.Hill then directed an 11-play, 69-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter that culminated in a 1-yard TD pass to Devine Ozigbo. The Saints went for 2 Adrian Peterson Jersey , but Hill was sacked by Anthony Lanier II.Following a Chargers punt, Hill drove the Saints into field goal range, where Will Lutz made a 28-yarder with 1:08 remaining.Troymaine Pope returned a punt 81 yards for a TD for the Chargers (0-2). Andre Patton had five receptions for 62 yards. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — For all the heads Mike Hughes has turned in practice with Minnesota since the Vikings picked him in the first round of the draft , they certainly harbored no plan to play him on 79 percent of the snaps on defense in his first real NFL game. That’s what happened in his debut, though, thanks to injuries to two fellow cornerbacks. Hughes had an interception return for a touchdown and a team-leading three pass breakups in Minnesota’s 24-16 victory over San Francisco .“You can kind of tell the way he carries himself that he’s not going to freeze up on the big stage,” free safety Harrison Smith said.Production like that provided affirmation of general manager Rick Spielman’s decision to ignore needs on the offensive line when Hughes became available with the 30th overall selection.“We expect him to go out there and do that,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “I mean, that’s why we drafted him. Everybody was complaining about taking that corner. I’m glad we had him.”Mackensie Alexander’s ankle injury kept him out of the season opener, so Hughes took over as the slot cornerback in the nickel package, a position used more often than the weak side linebacker these days and essentially a starting role. Then cornerback Trae Waynes hurt his knee in the second quarter. With Terence Newman now an assistant coach, Hughes was promoted again to the outside opposite Xavier Rhodes.“If a player tells you he doesn’t get butterflies before a game, he’s lying. I think it’s natural,” Hughes said. “After the first play http://www.thevikingslockerroom.com/authentic-kirk-cousins-jersey , I was good. I settled in and went through my calls and played within the scheme.”Though all five 49ers kickoffs went for touchbacks, depriving Hughes of any return opportunities, he played the gunner spot on the coverage team and caught a punt to down the ball at the 4-yard line in the first quarter. His time covering kicks was reduced after his defensive responsibility increased, but special teams coordinator Mike Priefer has lauded his ability since he arrived.“There’s a drive in there that you can see. I’ve been around a lot of young people, and I think he’s one of the guys that really understands what he needs to do to get better,” Priefer said. “He knows he hasn’t arrived yet, even though he was a first-round draft pick. I love his attitude, I love his effort, and he’s improving every day.”Hughes made some mistakes, of course, on a handful of long gains by the 49ers. He has a lot to learn yet about the game. His attention to detail, however, has stood out to Vikings coaches and players since organized practices began in the spring. So has his athleticism, confidence and instincts. That’s atypical for a rookie.“Honestly, he plays like he’s been in the league before Womens Anthony Barr Jersey ,” Rhodes said, “and I think years down the road he’s going to be one of the best.”Hughes wasn’t the only inexperienced player thrust into unexpected action for the Vikings, who despite their status as Super Bowl contender have the NFC’s youngest squad with an average age of 25.47 years on the opening roster.Backup safety Jayron Kearse replaced Hughes at the nickel back spot. Though he’s been a valuable special teams players over his first two years, Kearse’s only career start as a rookie in 2016 at Chicago was best remembered for a 69-yard run by Bears running back Jordan Howard aided by an awkward overplay by Kearse as he approached in tackling position.“It was something you couldn’t look past,” Kearse said, “but now I had another opportunity and I just wanted to show I’m not the same player I was.”The Vikings play at Green Bay on Sunday, when the secondary will have to be as sharp as ever if Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers plays on his sprained knee . Hughes and Kearse, at least, will be one game better for it.“Showing that I can get in and cover a slot, showing that I can get in and cover a tight end,” Kearse said, “that was big for me to show the coaches that I can be more than just a special teams player.”

The Packers seem highly unlikely to select Kyler Murray

Brett Hundley Jersey White , but he could still impact their draft plans. Meanwhile, Green Bay has already met with offensive lineman Dalton Risner." for SiriusXMThe crux of the NFL Scouting Combine, at least for the television audience, comes in in the form of the 40-yard dash and other speed tests. Those events will take place over the coming days, but the 2019 combine’s most noteworthy moment has already unfolded. Kyler Murray, the multisport superstar and presumed future first-round quarterback, has now answered any questions about his size.NFL officials took the height and weight of Murray and the other signal-callers invited to the combine, and the diminutive Oklahoma product measured larger than expected. At a shade over 5-foot-10, Murray still will rank among the shortest quarterbacks drafted in the opening round. However, many in and around the league feared he would come in much shorter. Perhaps even more importantly, Murray weighed in at 207 pounds, a surprisingly solid amount for his frame. Between the two measurements, Murray has essentially won the combine even though he doesn’t plan on performing any drill until his pro day. While the Packers don’t figure to have much interest in drafting a quarterback early for the foreseeable future, the developments around Murray still hold significance. If his measurements assuage the fears of QB-needy teams, that could thrust Murray up the draft board and, by consequence, push a coveted prospect towards Green Bay. Even if Murray doesn’t hear his name called before the Packers’ first selection (No. 12 overall), general manager Brian Gutekunst could leverage interest in the rookie passer into a trade, perhaps with either the Miami Dolphins (currently stationed at pick No. 13) or Washington (No. 15).Even if the Packers have no interest in the top quarterbacks this year, they do figure to target offensive linemen at some stage of the draft. At least one of the presumed top O-line prospects revealed Thursday that he has spoken with the team.”I sat down with [Green Bay’s] offensive-line coach and assistant offensive-line coach, coach Butkus,” Kansas State standout Dalton Risner said during his media availability. “Nothing with a head coach or a GM, but I sat down with them two nights ago for about 20 minutes. Really enjoyed my conversation and letting them know where I come from and my story.”Risner has played or practiced at every position along the offensive line and projects as either a right tackle or guard in the NFL. The Packers could use some immediate help at right guard as well as an eventual successor to starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga. Over a two week span, Acme Packing Company takes a look at each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provides grades and insight on how they performed in the 2018 season. Today, we examine the cornerbacks. The Green Bay Packers’ defense struggled in 2018 as Mike Pettine took over for Dom Capers, but as much as Dom’s system was simply stale, the underlying issuesthis season were much more about talent level and health. While the Packer defense is stacked up front (When healthy), everything behind Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark was questionable at best entering 2018. Fortunately, one of the few positive developments on defense came at corner, and while the Packer pass defense still struggled, there are Marwin Evans Jersey White , at least, a few building blocks in place. Preferred StartersJaire Alexander13 games played, 11 starts11 passes defended, 1 interception, 66 tackles (61 solo), 3 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveriesThe Packers spent a first round pick at their weakest position, and the results paid immediate dividends as Alexander immediately became the team’s top corner. He was the single best Packer secondary player across the board, elite in coverage, in tackling, and in run support. While some lament that the team missed out on safety Derwin James, an elite player in his own right, it’s likely that Alexander ends up as the more valuable player, locking down a side of the field for the foreseeable future. For a team that started Lenzy Pipkins as their top corner in a playoff game two years ago, Alexander is just about the biggest upgrade imaginable. Bashaud Breeland7 games played, 5 starts4 passes defended, 2 interceptions, 20 tackles (16 solo), 1 TFL, 1 fumble recoveryBreeland became available this offseason because Washington has no clue as to what they are doing and let him walk in free agency. After he failed his physical with Carolina once he signed a free agent deal, Breeland signed with the Packers. Returning from a bizarre leg infection, there was bound to be some rust on his game, but once he shook it off he was excellent opposite Alexander. We should not ignore the rust entirely, as it did lead to a few penalty-filled games early on in his brief stint with the team, but the real Breeland showed himself late, and there is enough positive history here to give some confidence in his game going forward. Only 26, and still in his prime, he should rightly be one of the most attractive corners on the free agent market. Hopefully he’s willing to return to Green Bay. Kevin King6 games played, 6 starts2 passes defended, 1 interception http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-oren-burks-jersey , 17 tackles (14 solo), 1 TFL, 1 fumble recoveryThe legend of the Fisher King holds that the final guardian of the Holy Grail has suffered a leg or groin malady, and can only move enough to fish, and that the health of the land waxes and wanes with his own health. Such is the legend of Kevin King, who is forever injured, seemingly the missing piece on the field when he is not, and the health of the defense waxes and wanes with his presence. King is maddening as a very good, very physical cover corner who rivals Alexander in production on a per play basis. Unfortunately, he just can’t stay on the field, and while he remains an intriguing prospect, time is running out on King. After playing in just 15 games over his first two seasons, King needs to show up in 2019, or he might not be a Packer in 2020.Backups/Fill-insJosh Jackson16 games played, 10 starts10 passes defended, 0 INT, 49 tackles (39 solo), 1 TFLThe Packers’ second-round pick kicked things off with a bang, with a nice game in limited action against the Bears, but it was mostly downhill from there. Opponents began to realize that Jackson lacked the raw speed to keep up with most NFL receivers, and capitalized when he was in one-on-one situations. Jackson’s performance seemed to spiral when he was successfully picked on, and in his better moments he still showed the technique and tackling that landed him in the second round. If he’s going to stick at corner, that technique is going to have to become rock solid. But he may be better served in terms of fit and confidence with a move to safety, where Green Bay could certainly use the help.Tramon Williams16 games played, 16 starts (7 at cornerback)2 passes defended, 0 interceptions, 54 tackles (40 solo), 0 TFLSpeaking of which, Tramon Williams — veteran, Super Bowl hero, and all around great player — returned to shore up the corner position. But while the brain was game Vince Biegel Jersey White , the body unfortunately was not. Williams would often be in perfect position to make a play, only to see a younger, faster receiver run right by him as if stuck in quicksand. Williams was moved to safety around the middle of the season where he was a much better fit. He’s not a banger anymore, but he can still shut down tight ends and running backs, and he’s adequate if unspectacular in run support. Williams is an underrated Packer, and one of the better corners in team history. If he loses another step, it’s probably over for him.Tony Brown11 games played, 3 starts5 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, 0 interceptions, 34 tackles (30 solo) 1 TFL.At some point Brian Gutekunst just started collecting athletes, and Brown is example 1A. One of Brown’s closest physical comparables is none other than Jaire Alexander, and it’s not as crazy as it sounds. Brown’s issues weren’t as much about play as they were discipline, as he was repeatedly flagged for unnecessary, late hits. When he wasn’t committing game-killing penalties he put that athleticism to good use, staying with receivers as well as just about anyone. Brown is raw, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him turn into a very good corner in the near future. Davon House3 games played2 tackles (1 solo)There was no reason to bring House back, and in his very limited playing time, he showed why. His second stint as a Packer has been an unmitigated disaster as House was one of the worst players in the league. Originally intended as a steady hand while Damarious Randall, Quentin Rollins, and Kevin King developed, House instead spent most of his time getting torched, and being caught out of position. He’s a free agent, and if he lands another job it would be a surprise. The restNatrell Jamerson, Deante Burton, Will RedmondFormer Badger Natrell Jamerson had a cup of coffee on special teams, and impressed. Jamerson suffered a gruesome broken leg in college, but recovered well and put on a show at the Combine and at Wisconsin’s Pro Day. He was officially a corner for the Packers, but would be well-served by a move to a position that lets him head downhill with more abandon. Will Redmond served as special teams fodder in a few games, and was nothing to write home about. Deante Burton was Moonlight Graham’ed and never got on the field.

(AP) — Thurman Thomas recalled a phone call he received a couple weeks ago from former Buffalo Bills teammate Bruce Smith.“Do yo know what it means to have your jersey retired?” Smith asked Thomas. “Do you realize the importance?”“I do now,” Thomas told to a sold-out crowd at New Era Field on Monday night. “Now that I’m here with you, I realize it even more.”The Bills retired Thomas’ No. 34 during a ceremony at halftime of Buffalo’s game against the New England Patriots. He is the third player in Bills history to receive the honor. Jim Kelly had his No. 12 retired in 2001, and Smith’s No. 78 was retired in 2016.With the lights turned out at the sold-out stadium, highlights from Thomas’ Hall of Fame career were shown on the video scoreboard while two spotlights projected 34s onto the field.Retired ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman introduced Thomas, who was joined by his family on an elevated platform at midfield. His name and number were unveiled on a wall above the east end zone.“When I look up and see the No. 34 retired under my name, I’ll be reminded that number doesn’t just belong to me,” Thomas said. “It belongs to the Bills fans everywhere.”Kelly and Smith were among several former teammates who watched the ceremony on the field. Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy and former general manager Bill Polian were also among the group.Earl Campbell, one of two Hall of Fame running backs, along with Walter Payton, who inspired Thomas to wear No. 34 LeSean McCoy Jerseys 2019 , recorded a video message for the ceremony.Thomas played 12 of his 13 seasons in Buffalo and is the franchise’s all-time leading in rushing yards (11,938) and yards from scrimmage (16,279). He was voted NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 1991 and led the league in yards from scrimmage in four straight seasons from 1989-92.The Bills put Thomas on their Wall of Fame in 2005, two years before he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Nine other players have worn No. 34 for the Bills, including Cookie Gilchrist, the 1962 American Football League MVP and star of Buffalo’s 1964 AFL championship team.Oklahoma State College and Willowridge High School in Houston have also honored Thomas by retiring No. 34. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)Bills defensive end Lorenzo Alexander is ready to give rookie first-round pick Josh Allen the benefit of the doubt based on how apologetic the former Wyoming quarterback has been acknowledging a series of racially insensitive tweets he posted while still in high school.Alexander, a respected team leader, expects his teammates to do the same and provide Allen a fair opportunity to clear the air.”He has shown maturity to own it. He wrote those words. He’s not using a cop-out,” Alexander said Friday.”I think the biggest thing now is to earn the respect of his teammates by the way he comes in and works. And when guys ask him, just being open and honest about it White Kyle Williams Jerseys ,” he added. ”And I think most guys will accept his answer based on who he is.”Allen agreed when informed of Alexander’s comments, and is eagerly awaiting the opportunity.Twice repeating the phrase ”as soon as possible,” Allen called it important to apologize for what he posted and show Bills players who he is today.”It’s something that I wouldn’t be afraid or ashamed of doing,” he said upon arriving at the team’s facility a day after Buffalo traded up five spots in the NFL draft order to select Allen with the seventh pick.”I put it on my shoulders,” he added. ”I made a mistake and I just want them to know who I am, because once they get to know who I am, I think they’re going to like what they see.”Allen traveled to Buffalo along with fellow first-round draft pick, Tremaine Edmunds. The Bills traded up six spots to select the Virginia Tech linebacker with the 16th pick. The trades left Buffalo with just the 96th pick on Friday, with which they selected Stanford defensive tackle Harrison Phillips. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 307 pounds and was a two-year starter with the Cardinal. Phillips led Stanford with 103 tackles while adding 7 1/2 sacks and earned first-team Pac-12 honors in his senior season last year.Phillips will have a chance to develop in Buffalo on a defensive line that features two veteran starters in Kyle Williams and offseason free-agent addition Star Lotulelei.Allen has been the focus of attention since Wednesday night, when Yahoo Sports reported the quarterback sent the now-deleted tweets in 2012 and 2013. They contained racially insensitive language and offensive statements. He has repeatedly apologized for the posts, while saying he was ”young and dumb” in parroting rap lyrics and catchphrases from TV and pop culture.Allen also expressed relief in how the Bills stuck by him in making him only the franchise’s fourth quarterback to be drafted in the first round. The selection only happened after general manager Brandon Beane spent much of Thursday speaking with Allen Kyle Williams Jerseys 2019 , his coaches and former teammates to be reassured of the player’s character.Allen acknowledged becoming emotional during a half-hour phone conversation with Beane.”I just really wanted him to know the type of person I was,” he said. ”I was embarrassed by everything that happened. It’s something that I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy.”Coach Sean McDermott said he consulted with his team leaders once Allen’s tweets became public, while informing them of the possibility of the quarterback being selected.”We take these things seriously in respect to adding any player,” McDermott said. ”And when this came up, it went to another level.”Alexander said the Bills established a strong leadership group last year in confronting various issues – from a major roster overhaul to finding consensus on how to handle anthem protests. They finished 9-7 to end a 17-year playoff drought which the longest active streak in North America’s four major professional sports.Alexander said Bills defensive end Eddie Yarbrough vouched for Allen after the two played together at Wyoming in 2015.”I respect Eddie and his opinion,” Alexander said. ”So I would be foolish not to extend grace in getting to know this young man who’s coming into our locker room.”It wasn’t lost on Alexander, either, that the Bills previously welcomed Richie Incognito after the offensive guard was out of football for 18 months following his role in the Miami Dolphins’ bullying scandal in 2013. Incognito became a Bills leader before abruptly announcing his retirement this month.”I don’t see why this situation can’t be any different,” he said.”I think we have a strong locker room. We have leaders who promote healthy conversation,” Alexander said. ”We will move past this. And we’ll look back and it won’t even seem like it was as big as it was made out to be.”—

After Sunday’s crushing 33-31 last-second loss to the Carolina Panthers, though, Shurmur was as emotional/angry/unfiltered as he’s ever been since becoming the Giants’ head coach. On Odell Beckham’s comments to ESPNHere is the interview, just in case you aren’t aware of it.“Alright, listen, I’m gonna answer all the drama questions right now. I’m gonna go back to what I said, alright? I addressed it with Odell. I addressed it with our team,” Shurmur said, voice beginning to rise again. “I publicly declared that I didn’t agree with his comments ands I asked anyone who was interested if they wanted clarification go to Odell because he’s a big man. “I’m not gonna give the public a pound of flesh on this, alright? That would make me small, not strong. These are the kind of things, in my opinion, when you have the locker room that we have Sterling Shepard Jerseys 2019 , that will help galvanize them. ‘Cause the locker room took care of it. That’s all I’m saying on it. Finito. Done!“Let’s talk football, not drama.”On the loss ... and his team“Disappointed for our team. We played hard. We played tough. We played the way that I know that our team is. For the record.“Our team is tough. They play hard and I’ve got no issues with the way they play. There’s still some things we’ve gotta clean up and play better, but we’ll get that fixed as we go.”On the questionable penalty vs. Landon Collins“I’m not gonna talk about calls.”Then, he did. And he got fired up when he did it, with his voice rising.“What I saw was a guy going for the ball, making an effort, I think he touched the ball if I’m not mistaken. I saw that with my own eyes. A guy is making a play on the ball with no attempt, no attempt to target the receiver. So, that’s how I saw it. I’m sure somebody will see it in slo-mo HD and somebody will tell me what they think.”On the time left after the Giants’ go-ahead touchdown“We gotta go out and play. We gotta go out and get ‘em stopped. Unfortunately they made a big kick and the score’s 33-31. I wasn’t worried. Let’s not go to that game, we scored with too much time. I’m not playing that bulls—- game.” EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The fan base for the Vikings stretches well beyond Minnesota, with strongholds in North Dakota, South Dakota and parts of Iowa.It crosses the Canadian border, too. Just ask Brett Jones.Acquired in a trade with the New York Giants to help shore up a shaky interior of the offensive line White Darian Thompson Jerseys , Jones joined the Vikings for practice on Monday after his completed physical exam consummated the deal. He smiled as he spoke afterward about the whirlwind he’d experienced as the final week of the preseason began, when the Giants pulled him off the field during drills on Sunday. Then the Vikings called him to arrange his travel.“I was pretty surprised,” Jones said, “and excited at the same time.”As a youth on the Saskatchewan prairie, Jones rooted for the Vikings long before playing for them became a reality.“There’s a lot of purple up there,” he said. “Growing up, this was probably the closest stadium we could get to.”As an 18-year-old, Jones even bought a Phil Loadholt jersey to wear his devotion after the Vikings drafted him in the second round out of Oklahoma in 2009. He traveled south to watch a game that season against the Cincinnati Bengals at the now-demolished Metrodome.“I just liked offensive linemen, and I didn’t think anybody else would have that jersey so I picked that one,” Jones said. After attending Regina University, Jones was the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award winner in 2014, his second year with the Calgary Stampeders. The Giants signed him in 2015, and he made his first NFL start at left guard in 2016. The 6-foot-2, 312-pound Jones started 13 games last season at center Darian Thompson Jerseys 2019 , but he fell behind Jon Halapio on the depth chart in training camp this summer and carried a $2.914 million salary the tight-against-the-cap Giants had to shed. The Vikings have scouted the CFL thoroughly over the past few years. Wide receiver Brandon Zylstra is a fellow CFL alum in training camp.“It was a unique path. It was the only option I had,” Jones said. “Coming out of college I was short, and I’m still short today, so it was tough for me. I had to prove that I could play by playing in the CFL, and then when I got to the NFL I had to prove I belong here. I’ve just been doing that each and every day.”With center Pat Elflein still not back at practice following offseason ankle and shoulder surgeries and left guard Nick Easton likely out for the year with a neck injury, Jones was a welcomed addition. Joe Berger retired after starting at right guard last season.“On tape he’s pretty good. He’s stout, strong, really gritty, good in pass protection, solid on the double teams,” coach Mike Zimmer said.

Now playing in his 11th year in the NFL, the University of Texas product has racked up 59.0 sacks — one sack from tying Kevin Williams for fifth all-time in Vikings history and two behind teammate Everson Griffen for fourth. The Vikings are 8-1 the last two seasons when Robison records a sack.In Newman’s 36 snaps Sunday, he tallied two pass deflections and one highlight-reel interception.Newman’s third-quarter interception looked more like an early-2000s Vince Carter dunk than a turnover, as Newman grabbed the ball between his legs — while in midair — and was somehow able to complete the catch. When will the motors of these seasoned veterans begin to slow down? That accounted for four rushing plays, two passing plays (he threw an interception and an incompletion), and Bridgewater knelt for the final three snaps in the victory formation to end the game.— Thanks to a blowout, offensive linemen Nick Easton, Joe Berger and Rashod Hill were the only three players on either side of the ball to play in 100 percent of the snaps.GAME 14: BENGALS (OFFENSE)PLAYERPLAYS (67)%Berger67100%Easton67100%Hill67100%Remmers5887%Elflein5887%Keenum5887%Thielen5684%Morgan5075%Diggs4669%McKinnon3552%Murray3248%Treadwell2436%Rudolph2131%Ham2030%Carter1827%Wright1624%Floyd1421%Sirles1218%Isadora913%Bridgewater913%GAME 14: BENGALS (DEFENSE)PLAYERPLAYS (55)%Waynes5193%Griffen4276%Sendejo4175%Smith4175%Rhodes4175%Kendricks4175%Barr4175%T. (AP) — Michael Bennett took long-distance travel to a new level Sunday. The veteran defensive lineman disembarked a red-eye flight from Hawaii to Boston on Sunday morning and quickly made his way to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to participate in his first full-pads training camp practice with the New England Patriots.Bennett said that taking a break was not an option.“You want to prove to your teammates that you love the game,” said Bennett, 33, a veteran of 10 seasons with Tampa Bay, Seattle and Philadelphia.“I grew up in the game. This game’s been part of my life for more than 20 years, so every time I step on the field and I’ve got teammates that believe in me, I just want to go out and show them that in every single moment Antonio Garcia Jersey , I’m going to go as hard as I can.”Bennett has 63 sacks, including nine last year in his only season with the Eagles. In March, he was traded by Philadelphia along with a 2020 seventh-round draft pick to the Patriots for a fifth-round selection. He had been exempted by Patriots coach Bill Belichick from attending the first three days of training camp for personal reasons, and rumors of retirement began to emerge.“I didn’t retire,” Bennett said. “I heard everybody said I was retiring, and I was laughing at home. I just had a family issue that I had to take care of.”Bennett did not explain the nature of the family issue, but he said Belichick was understanding of his need to put his family first.“It’s nice when you have a coach that sees you as a human being and not just a number,” Bennett said.“If you have an issue, you’re able to go and talk to him, and tell him what’s going on, and you’re able to go and take care of it. That just makes you want to play harder for a coach that believes in you and lets you take care of your family first.”Bennett said his brother Martellus, who played tight end for the Patriots in portions of the 2016 and 2017 seasons, said Belichick would be respectful and understanding.“Everybody’s always concerned about how their boss is going to take under consideration when something happens back home Womens Julian Edelman Jersey ,” Bennett said. “But when you have a boss that respects you as a man, it’s easy to play for him like that.”Bennett has had five seasons in which he has had 8½ or more sacks, and he hopes to continue to excel as a pass rusher in New England. But he also isn’t afraid to try new things, knowing that Belichick has a reputation for putting his players in situations where they can succeed.“What motivates me? I think winning,” Bennett said. “It’s the opportunity to build a team. I think that’s the best part of the game. I love winning, and I also love building relationships with new people, and the opportunity to be put in new positions and to try new things and keep improving myself as an individual, as a father and as a businessman.”He also repeated his commitment to giving the Patriots his full effort.“I haven’t quit anything in a long time,” Bennett said. “I don’t even quit when I’m playing my daughter in checkers.”

I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. It’s another dead zone for Jet articles today, and the monotony of the off-season has finally hit again. You know it’s bad when there’s a multitude of ‘reports’ regarding the Jets wishing the Knicks good luck for the NBA Draft, and news that the team picked up two cans for fodder (WR Xavier Ubosi and T Calvin Anderson) that the Patriots waived. I’m known to be a bit nefarious, but does anyone really think those two players will stick? Outside of that there’s some typical Maccagnan bashing, mostly in regards to his latest failure in Rashard Robinson that allowed some writers to re-open the can of worms that has been Big Mac’s tenure in NY. Rounding off this meager day of content is Adam Gase’s feelings of off-season All-Pro Trevon Wesco. I can assure you, it’s nothing but praise. I also decided to track the frequency of select notable occurrences, such as a tally of Darnold’s total “improvised” production (a revered staple of his), and a count of drops, among other things.Previously, I ran through a few of the most notable statistical tidbits I found from tracking Darnold in his Week 5 and Week 6 outings, against the Broncos and Colts. Today we’ll move on to his seventh and eighth games, a pair of NFC North battles against the Vikings and Bears. Before we start diving in, here is a look at the collection of route types I’ve been tracking.Obviously Youth Darron Lee Jerseys , there is a seemingly infinite number of complex route concepts that could not possibly fit in that picture. I went with a simplified collection of 15 route types. I thought this lineup was perfect for having enough variety to capture every throw while not going overboard with specificity. It’s sometimes difficult to tell exactly what route a receiver is trying to run. Other times, there will be instances where a receiver will run a more complex route that features a combination of multiple routes seen above, such as an out-and-up or slant-and-go among others. I assigned route types based on the nature of the throw for Darnold. Whichever route type best matched the angle, depth, and overall essence of the throw Darnold had to make, would be the one I’d go with.Weeks 7 and 8 marked the first two of three straight rough outings for Darnold before his three-game absence due to injury. The circumstances were tough, as Darnold took on two of the league’s top four DVOA defenses while the Jets offense was riddled by injuries.Let’s take a look at how the cookie crumbled for Darnold near the midway point of his rookie year.Vikings 37, Jets 17. Darnold: 17 for 42, 206 yards, 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions (34.4 passer rating, 4.9 yards per attempt)The Vikings game was arguably Darnold’s only home outing of the season in which his performance could not be described as at least “solid”. His 40.5% completion rate and 4.9 yards per attempt both finished as season lows. While he didn’t receive much help against a formidable opponent, Darnold still struggled a lot in his own right. Over the first three quarters, outside of a drive in the first where he completed three straight passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, Darnold completed 5 of 19 passes for 14 yards. That’s 0.7 yards per attempt. Which. . . . isn’t very good. There were a few particular splits where Darnold really struggled in this one. Against zone coverage, Darnold completed 8 of 22 passes for 75 yards (3.4 per attempt) and only two first downs (9.1%). He also couldn’t get the downfield game going. Darnold’s average attempt distance against Minnesota was a season high 10.9 yards downfield. He attempted eight throws over 20 yards downfield, but only completed one of them.Darnold threw for only seven first downs. There was only one route that he picked up a first down on more than once, which was the out route. Darnold relied on the out route more than any other variety in this game, completing 3 of 7 for 39 yards and two firsts. In Darnold’s defense, he didn’t get much support in this one. Jets running backs picked up only 53 yards on 18 carries (2.9 per attempt). Darnold also suffered from four drops, which by my tracking was the highest single-game total for the Jets through that point of the season. He had a handful of eye-popping throws, however. Sterling drops this pass, one of Darnold’s best throws of the afternoon.Darnold also had this really nice dime to Trenton Cannon on the wheel route.Bears 24, Jets 10. Darnold: 14 for 29, 153 yards, 1 touchdown Darron Lee Jerseys Stitched , 0 interceptions (75.8 passer rating, 5.3 yards per attempt)The Jets were without both Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa in Week 8. As a result, Darnold had to go up against the league’s best defense on the road with a wide receiver group headlined by Jermaine Kearse, Andre Roberts, Charone Peake, and Deontay Burnett.Darnold wasn’t necessarily “good” in this game, but I thought he did just about all that he could given the circumstances. The Jets could not get anybody open in this game. There were many snaps where Darnold either had no options or could only try a tight-window throw a handful of yards beyond the line of scrimmage. The Bears had arguably the most talented defense in the league last year, and unsurprisingly, they absolutely clobbered the second-string Jets unit. Here are a few examples of what a typical snap looked like in that game. (Soldier Field’s all-22 view can be tough to see, so I provided some very excellently drawn blue circles to help point out the blanketed Jets receivers.)A few numbers help showcase how much the Jets receivers struggled to separate in this game. The Bears broke up six passes that afternoon, a total that is 50% higher than their season average of 4.0, which was third-best in the NFL. Darnold was also forced to throw the ball away five times, which by my tracking was a season high to that point of the year.Darnold had some stark splits against the Bears. He did much better against man matchups than zone. He completed 10 of 14 attempts for 132 yards and seven first downs when throwing to receivers covered man-to-man. Against zone, he completed 4 of 10 passes for 21 yards and one first down. Darnold did a good job taking advantage of the rare 1-on-1 victories by his receivers, but could not buy a successful play underneath against zone coverages.I wanted to point out a few trends I’ve noticed from Darnold over the games I’ve tracked so far.So far, I’ve taken note that on a few different types of throws, Darnold has seen dramatic differences in production based on field side. Darnold has had a substantially better deep game throwing to his left. On go, post, corner, fade, and wheel routes, here is a comparison of Darnold’s production by field side through eight games.Left: 14 for 26, 358 yards (13.8 Y/A), 13 first downs (50%), 7 touchdowns, 3 interceptions drop.Right: 4 for 18 Jets Quinnen Williams Jersey , 72 yards (4.0 Y/A), 4 first downs (22%), 1 touchdown, 1 interceptionAdditionally, Darnold has much more success throwing to his left on out-breaking routes toward the sideline. On out and comeback routes, here is a comparison of Darnold’s production by field side so far.Left: 13 for 17, 141 yards (8.3 Y/A), 7 first downs (41%)Right: 5 for 17, 51 yards (3.0 Y/A), 2 first downs (12%)In contrast, Darnold has been more successful on in-breaking routes when throwing to his right. Here is a comparison of Darnold’s production by field side on slant and dig routes.Left: 7 for 16, 107 yards (6.7 Y/A), 5 first downs (31%), 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptionsRight: 14 for 23, 280 yards (12.2 Y/A), 12 first downs (52%), 1 touchdown, 1 interceptionIs there meaning to these splits, or are they mere coincidence? One theory that I think could be behind these numbers is the Robby Anderson factor. Just about all of Anderson’s deep production with Darnold through this point has been on the left side. Could the threat that Anderson provides on the left be opening up breaks toward the middle of the field for the right side? Looking back at the Week 6 game against the Colts, it seems like this idea very much could have been in play. Jermaine Kearse feasted on slants from the right side, while Anderson consistently attracted help over the top on the left. With that game coming one week after Anderson roasted Denver with left side go routes, it makes sense that the Colts would be making it a point to avoid suffering the same fate the Broncos did. I’m very curious to see if these trends hold up over Darnold’s next five games. Here is a look at Darnold’s route type breakdown through his first eight games of 2018.Previous breakdowns:Weeks 1-2 (@ Detroit and vs Miami)Weeks 3-4 (@ Cleveland and @ Jacksonville)Weeks 5-6 (vs Denver and vs Indianapolis)
