In the bygone Super Bowl days, they were Eli Manning’s team. For a brief period, they were Odell Beckham’s team. Someday, hopefully, they will be Daniel Jones’ team. Now, they are Barkley’s. Let’s talk a little about Barkley and expectations for 2019 as we continue profiling the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp later this year. The basicsHeight: 5-foot-11Weight: 233 Age: 22Position: Running backExperience: 12018 season in reviewGiants GM Dave Gettleman says of Barkley that “he’s unique and he’s special.” His rookie season made it pretty hard to argue with Gettleman’s assessment.Among his many accomplishments:AP Offensive Rookie of the YearFirst-Team Sporting News and Pro Football Focus All-Pro (not the official All-Pro honors)Pepsi NFL Rookie of the YearFedEx Ground NFL Player of the YearGiants’ rookie records for: Rushing yards (1,307)100-yard rushing games (7)Rushing touchdowns (11)Yards from scrimmage (2,028)Receiving yards by a running back (721)Receptions by a running back (91) ... also an NFL recordTied Odell Beckham for most receptions by a rookie at any positionTotal touchdowns (15)Barkley had five touchdowns from scrimmage of 50 or more yards, the most ever by a Giants rookie and the most by any Giants player since Beckham had five in 2015. Barkley was the first NFL rookie with five 50+ yard touchdowns from scrimmage since Minnesota wide receiver Randy Moss in 1998. Also:Second in the NFL in rushing yardsWas the third rookie in NFL history with 2,000 or more yards from scrimmage, joining Eric Dickerson and Marshall FaulkSecond among all running back in receptionsSet Giants’ single-game record for receptions with 14 vs. Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 16First NFL rookie with at least 1,200 rushing yards and 600 receiving yards since Detroit’s Billy Sims in 1980.Barkley exceeded 100 yards from scrimmage in 13 games, tying Dickerson’s NFL rookie record. Not bad. Only Alec Ogletree Jersey , though, a partial list. Barkley’s accomplishments take up roughly four full pages in the Giants’ 2018 review book sent to media. In all, Barkley accounted for 33.5 percent of the Giants’ total yardage on offense.Just about the only thing Barkley didn’t do was outrun the ever-present questions about whether or not the Giants should have used the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback rather than on him. He was still being asked that question when he met the media for the first time this year at the beginning of the team’s offseason program.“Not being cocky or anything, but if a Rookie of the Year doesn’t sway that mindset, then I don’t know what will. My mindset is to continue to prove to the people in this locker room and in this building that they got the right guy,” Barkley said. “Not only the right guy because I can break off an 80-yard touchdown, because there are a lot of people in the league that can do that, but as a guy that can buy in and take that leadership role, I believe that I have been able to show that so far.”2019 outlookWhat can Barkley do for an encore? His skills aren’t going to change. He might even be better right from the start at making sure he gets north and south to get what head coach Pat Shurmur last year called the “dirty yards.” With a full season together, Barkley, Shurmur and Eli Manning might even be better at figuring out ways to use Barkley’s talents to attack in the passing game rather than using him so often as a last resort or check down option. What is going to be really interesting is how the Giants’ offense evolves without Odell Beckham Jr. and with Barkley as its obvious key component. We saw four Beckham-less games at the end of last season, and they were a mixed bag for both Barkley and the offense as a whole. There was a 40-point explosion against the Washington Redskins in which Barkley romped for 170 yards on just 14 carries, and a 17-carry, 109-yard game to end the season against the Dallas Cowboys in which the Giants scored 35 points in a losing effort. The other two games http://www.giantslockerroom.com/authentic-jonathan-stewart-jersey , though, weren’t so good. Barkley averaged season lows of 2.21 and 2.05 yards per carry in losses to Tennessee and Indianapolis, one of which was a 17-0 shutout by the Titans. Can the Giants, with Golden Tate replacing Beckham and Kevin Zeitler and Mike Remmers added to the offensive line, distribute the ball well enough to keep defenses from simply loading up to stop Barkley? We already mentioned that Barkley accounted for 33.5 percent of the Giants’ 2018 yardage. Including incomplete passes, the Giants tried to put the ball in Barkley’s hands on 382 of 967 plays last season, 39.5 percent. Can Barkley do more? Should the Giants ask him to do more? Would they be better off balancing things out and asking him to do less?Really, the answer is whatever it takes to win more than five games.“Obviously, my competitive nature would love to be the best player in the league and the best running back in the league, but I think you could make an argument that I was one of the best running backs in the league last year and we went 5-11 to account for it,” Barkley said at the outset of the offseason program. “My mindset is whatever it takes to take this team to another level and compete for a championship, whether that is 2,000 yards, 1 Youth Carl Banks Jerseys ,500 yards or 800 yards.” Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning thinks the New York Giants are heading in the right direction, and the soon-to-be 38-year-old believes he has enough in the tank to lead them on another championship run.A day after the Giants (5-9) were eliminated from postseason contention for the sixth time in seven years, Manning said Monday the team didn't win enough of the close games earlier in the season in their 1-7 start. He was encouraged how the team rebounded after the bye week, winning four of five games before being shut out by Tennessee on a rainy Sunday."Yeah, I know I can play, I can make the throws," said Manning, who has thrown for 3,689 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions while hitting almost 66 percent of his passes this season. "Yesterday, I made some good throws. So, it still feels like I can run around and make plays, and do a lot of good things. When there was a stretch when we were playing good football, and we just got to get back to it."An hour earlier Carl Banks Jerseys Stitched , first-year coach Pat Shurmur said he believed Manning can still play. When pressed about whether he wanted him back on the team, Shurmur said he wants all his players back. He noted the team has two more wins than last season with two games to play."Coach has had my back all year. He's been great. He believes in me," Manning said. "That makes your job easier, when the coach believes in you. We know we can play better. So, it's a start."The Giants don't have a quarterback in waiting. Rookie Kyle Lauletta, the fourth-round pick last year, was dreadful playing the fourth quarter a week ago against Washington. Alex Tanney is a journeyman backup.General manager Dave Gettleman could draft a quarterback next spring, but New York needs help on its lines, linebacker and safety, just to name a few spots.Signing a free agent will cost money, so the Giants have a lot to think about in the offseason.Shurmur, who took over a 3-13 team, said missing the playoffs simply means the Giants did not attain their goal."Does that mean we're failures?" he said. "No. What it means is we've got a lot of work to do. That's what it means, and I want to finish this year in a way that shows that we've grown so that we're at a different spot than we were a year ago to make some more of that growth that we all know needs to happen."Shurmur's immediate goal is to win at Indianapolis this weekend and finish with a win at home against Dallas. He said he is playing to win and Manning is the guy who offers the teams its best chance. So he starts.Shurmur added he believes Manning has a couple of good years left."I've seen him play good football Ray-Ray Armstrong Jersey , and I've seen how when we have a coordinated effort of protecting him, running the football effectively, and being able to run the ball throughout the game, it helps us," Shurmur said. The question for the Giants in the offseason is whether they will be able to provide Manning the type of offense in which he can thrive. If they can protect him and run the ball with No. 2 overall draft pick Saquon Barkley, he has the arm to make all the passes. If they can't, they might need a quarterback who offers the added dimension of being elusive.Wide receiver Sterling Shepard has experienced two dismal seasons for the team after making the playoffs as a rookie in 2016."We've been fighting through a lot of stuff, showed some great things and showed some things that we need to correct," he said, "and this will give us good momentum going into next season if we could finish strong and win two games against two really good teams."NOTES: Shurmur did not know which of his injured players would be ready for Sunday's game against the Colts, who improved to 8-6 with a shutout win over Dallas. C Spencer Pulley (calf), WR Russell Shepard (ankle), CB Antonio Hamilton (quad) were hurt Sunday. WR Odell Beckham Jr. has missed the last two games with a quad injury. Shurmur said the team is not shutting him down and he will play if ready.

KANSAS CITY Byron Cowart Buffalo Bills Jersey , Mo. (AP) — It’s the dead of winter, meaning the weather in New England can be brutal. And that the Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl.It took them overtime and more of Tom Brady’s brilliance to get there — for the third straight year. While the folks back home dealt with a frigid storm, Brady blew through Kansas City’s exhausted defense on a 75-yard drive to Rex Burkhead’s 2-yard touchdown run in a 37-31 victory Sunday for the AFC championship. The drive, during which New England (13-5) had three third-down conversions, was reminiscent of when the Patriots beat Atlanta in the only Super Bowl to go to OT two years ago.Article continues below ...“Overtime, on the road against a great team,” Brady said. “They had no quit. Neither did we. We played our best football at the end. I don’t know, man, I’m tired. That was a hell of a game.”Awaiting them in Atlanta are the Los Angeles Rams, who won 26-23 in overtime in New Orleans for the NFC championship. The Rams (15-3) last made the Super Bowl in 2002 while based in St. Louis, losing to the Patriots.New England benefited from two critical replay reviews and made its ninth Super Bowl with Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as coach.“This is crazy,” said Brady, who was 30 of 46 for 348 yards. “What a game.”It’s the first time both conference title games went to OT. The last time both visitors won conference championship matches was 2012; New England was 3-5 on the road this season.“We knew what our record was, but we didn’t let that dictate us,” said defensive end Trey Flowers, who led a staunch charge on Patrick Mahomes. “Whatever happened in the regular season happened. We came out and did it when it counted.”Several times, the Patriots appeared to have it won, only to see Kansas City (13-5) come back in spectacular fashion.Brady, at 41 already the oldest quarterback to have played in a Super Bowl, drove New England 65 yards in 1:24 to Burkhead’s go-ahead 4-yard touchdown with 39 seconds left in regulation. That was enough Infant Jacob Bailey Jersey , though, for his far younger counterpart, the 23-year-old All-Pro Mahomes, to take the Chiefs 48 yards to Harrison Butker’s 39-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to force overtime. It was a sizzling offensive showing in the fourth quarter after defense had been in charge most of the way. Indeed, the Chiefs were blanked in the opening half for the first time all season. And they never saw the ball in overtime, which along with the two replay decisions might call into play NFL rules and officiating.“I thought if we got the chance,” Mahomes said, “we’d score.”Mahomes finished 16 of 31 for 295 yards and three touchdowns.New England became the third franchise to reach three Super Bowls in a row. And Belichick now has 30 postseason victories, more than Bill Walsh and Don Shula combined. That Hall of Fame coaching duo also won five Super Bowls; Belichick shoots for No. 6 in two weeks. An apparent muff by the usually reliable Julian Edelman on a fourth-quarter punt return was overturned by a lengthy video review, prompting raucous booing and some demonstrative arguing from the usually laid-back Andy Reid. Edelman definitely touched his next try when Brady’s pass deflected off his hands directly to safety Daniel Sorensen. His 22-yard return set up Kansas City at the Patriots 23, and Damien Williams, who scored three times, had no defender near him down the left sideline for the score that made it 21-17, KC’s first lead.Back came Brady, engineering a 75-yard march on which Chris Hogan’s diving one-handed catch on third down appeared to touch the ground. Reid challenged — and lost.Minutes later, rookie Sony Michel scored from the 10, his second TD of the night. With 3½ minutes remaining, there was plenty of time for more points. Williams’ 2-yard run gave the Chiefs a 28-24 edge that New England took up most of the remaining time overcoming. The Patriots were helped by an offside call on linebacker Dee Ford that negated an interception which would have clinched a KC victory.Butker’s field goal sent it to overtime.“We put ourselves in position to win the game, that’s what makes it so tough,” Reid said. “If it’s a rout Jacob Bailey Jersey Draft , you chalk it up to experience. But this one right here, where you’re in it to win it, that’s a tough deal. We gave ourselves every opportunity to do it, and they got us in overtime.”The Chiefs hadn’t been blanked in any half this season, but they barely were a presence in the first 30 minutes, when they had the ball for 8:53. Mahomes was sacked three times for 43 yards; Kansas City’s record-setting attack ran only 16 plays and gained a mere 32 yards. The zero disappeared quickly in the third quarter. Finally given solid protection, Mahomes unleashed a 54-yard completion to Sammy Watkins over All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore. He then hit another All-Pro, tight end Travis Kelce, on a slant to make it 14-7 — and awaken the slumbering crowd. But one of several bad decisions further damaged Kansas City when Tyreek Hill, the All-Pro flex player, retreated deep in Chiefs territory returning a punt. Eventually, KC had to punt and the Patriots had excellent field position, setting up a 47-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. Not one to be shy about innovation, Mahomes completely sidearmed a throw to Watkins for 10 yards on a third down, then a dump-off to Williams covered 33. Kelce drew a pass interference call on J.C. Jackson in the end zone, and Mahomes threw a strike to Williams for the score.Although the Chiefs were on their heels much of the night, they were down only 17-14.LOPSIDED FIRST HALFJust as they did last week in manhandling the Chargers early and cruising, the Patriots delivered a message — and a touchdown — on their first series. It was a classic, covering 80 yards in 15 plays and using up more than eight minutes. Michel, who had 113 yards rushing Jacob Bailey NFL Jersey , scored from the 1.But Brady made a rare mistake on the next dominant drive. His third-down pass from the 1 for Rob Gronkowski was short and Reggie Ragland picked it off.Brady had never thrown an interception from the 1.When the Chiefs finally got a trademark big play on Mahomes’ 42-yard completion to Hill, it went for naught. Mahomes overthrew a wide-open Williams near the end zone, then took a 14-yard sack to send KC out of field goal range.Big mistake. The Patriots kept dominating the line of scrimmage, Brady took them 90 yards and connected with Phillip Dorsett over sloppy coverage by Steven Nelson to make it 14-0 with 27 seconds left in the half.STATSIn Week 6, the Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in a game featuring 946 yards total offense. This one had 814. … New England has played in eight straight AFC title games, but this is its first road playoff win since the 2006 season vs. San Diego. … Brady matched former Patriots K Adam Vinatieri, now with the Colts, for the most wins in NFL history (236). … Kansas City’s defense tied for first in the NFL with 52 sacks, but had none on Sunday. New England had four.COIN TOSSReid’s decision to defer after winning the opening coin toss proved unwise as New England had 22 plays in the opening period, and Kansas City had seven. Then, the Chiefs lost the more important toss before overtime. Less than five minutes later, they were headed to the offseason.UP NEXTThe Patriots head to Atlanta to play the Rams in the Super Bowl.2018 Patriots roster tracker: New England loses four players, including cornerback Cyrus Jones The NFL’s waiver pickup deadline has come and gone and there have been multiple moves: the New England Patriots themselves picked up a pair of wide receivers and saw three of their own players get claimed. Furthermore a fourth player was lost despite making it through waivers unselected. Ergo, the following four men are no longer with the Patriots:All four players were eligible to return to New England via the practice squad but none of them will be back. The biggest name on the list is undoubtably Jones: the former second-round draft pick, who spent all of 2017 on injured reserve, was unable to earn a backup spot at cornerback thanks to the emergence of JC Jackson and Keion Crossen and was subsequently released. A bit surprisingly, he went unclaimed through the waiver wire and then opted to join his hometown team over the Patriots.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Oliver Luck has noted that

there is a graveyard full of tombstones for spring professional football leagues going back more than 40 years. That graveyard filled a plot two months ago when the Alliance of American Football folded eight weeks into its inaugural season George Kittle Jersey , but the XFL commissioner thinks lessons learned from other leagues have already come in handy with a reboot of the XFL less than nine months away from kicking off.“We recognize it is a challenge. Spring football has seen a number of failed ventures over the years,” Luck said. “You need a solid business plan, capital commitments, good partners across the board and time. We’re in a pretty good position to come out of the gates stronger.”The XFL’s first games on Feb. 8, 2020, will come more than two years after Vince McMahon announced in January of 2018 that he was bringing the league back. Besides time, McMahon has given the league plenty of resources.McMahon has invested nearly $400 million in the XFL with three sales of his shares in World Wrestling Entertainment the past 16 months. He made his biggest investment on March 27, selling 3.2 million shares that were worth approximately $272 million. The last version of the XFL in 2001 was a joint venture between WWE and NBC. McMahon has started a separate company — Alpha Entertainment — to operate XFL 2.0.While McMahon was the face of the league the first time around, he has let others run with the ball during this launch. When the eight teams were announced last December, McMahon gave a short set of remarks before handing the rest of the proceedings to Luck, who has an established history as a sports executive.Luck came to the XFL from an executive leadership position at the NCAA. He previously was West Virginia’s athletic director, helped launch Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo and was NFL Europe’s president.“That’s a purposeful and intentional decision,” Luck said of McMahon. “When I first started talking to Vince, which was almost a year ago, he made it very clear that he was running WWE and wanted a football face out there.”Even with McMahon’s stock sales, a Securities and Exchange Commission filing shows that he still holds stock that represents approximately 80.1% of WWE’s total voting power.Earlier this week the XFL announced multiyear contracts with Fox and ESPN to televise games which came on the heels of a deal with Elevate Sports Ventures to manage ticket sales. The San Francisco 49ers are one of Elevate’s stakeholders.Only two AAF teams were in NFL markets Jason Verrett Jersey , whereas St. Louis is the only XFL team in a market that doesn’t have an NFL team. Los Angeles and New York, which had XFL teams the first time around, are back and are joined by Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Washington.Jeffrey Pollack, the XFL’s president and chief operating officer, said being in established football markets is the smart thing to do. Pollack also added that he could envision it being around $100 for a family of four to attend a game.“In its most fundamental form, being able to go to a game is part of having more access. It is also about the gameday experience, what our broadcast partners do and our digital content,” he said. With kickoff less than nine months away, coaches have been named in all but one city and team presidents are in place in four markets. Coaches include Bob Stoops in Dallas, Marc Trestman in Tampa and Jim Zorn in Seattle.Coaches are also their own general manager, which was an important selling point for Winston Moss, who was named Los Angeles’ coach on Tuesday.“I’m going to shop, cook them and serve them up Joe Montana Jersey ,” Moss said. The league has already done some rules experiments with a spring league in Austin, Texas, and will have another development session later this spring in California. Luck said there is an emphasis on a crisper pace to games, but didn’t reveal much more about proposed changes. One thing that Luck did admit though is that there will be kickoffs in the XFL, which the Alliance did not have. Possessions in the AAF started at the 25 yard line following a score.“We are trying to address issues that fans have stated, like missing the kickoff return. We want to layer deeper and make safer but still keep it in the game,” he said.Luck said the league will start signing players next month with mini camps starting in November. Luck added that the biggest focus will be on finding talented quarterbacks, which he felt the AAF struggled at doing.“When I looked at their strategy of paying everybody the same they underpaid at the top of their roster and overpaid at the bottom quite honestly,” he said. “They had mediocre, I would say pedestrian quarterbacks at best and part of it was not willing to put more on the table. There are very good, young quarterbacks available. We can do a more selective job at the top of our roster and get better players.”While the league has already checked a lot off its to-do list, there still is plenty to go in the remaining nine months. First impressions are vital, but Pollack also said getting a foundation built for the long haul is just as important.“We’ve got a big lift. Success can not be measured in a season or two, but we feel good about our prospects,” he said. “The ingredients are there. We feel good about where we are headed.”FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team, Compete for PrizesPlay Now! Rotoworld and NBC Sports writer Josh Norris reports that the 49ers met with Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat on Friday. This isn’t the first workout the 49ers staff would have gotten with Sweat. Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh worked with Sweat at the Senior Bowl in January. Shanahan’s staff coached the South team which Sweat was a part of. Sweat is a possible top-10 pick and if the 49ers find themselves trading back out of the No. 2 spot, that puts him into the conversation. For those of you unfamiliar with him, here’s his draft card at Draft Network. He had a good Combine also with the fastest 40 time among defensive lineman (4.41).Sweat would fit into a 4-3 defense, which the 49ers happen to run. He’s not a No. 2 pick (unless he were to do something to impress everyone in the building), but if the 49ers find a way out of their second pick for 2019, there’s some arguments to be had.

He’s seen successful coach/quarterback relationships. He’s seen some that weren’t so great. So how is the one in Tampa Bay going to work?I asked Simms what he felt Bruce Arians could do for Jameis Winston and how their pairing could lead to regualr season success and postseason opportunity; For those that listen to the PFT show on SiriusXM <a title="M.J.
At the end of every season each man on the practice squad

immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent. Playoff teams keep their practice squads until they are eliminated Trevon Wesco Buffalo Bills Jersey , but teams that do not make the playoffs lose all their practice squad players to free agency as soon as the last game of the regular season is over.In order to protect these players from being poached by other teams, they are signed to what are called futures contracts, which simply retain the team’s rights to the players until the next league year begins in mid March, when they can be signed to the expanded 90 man roster. The New York Jets have signed 6’ 5”, 307 pound center Jon Toth, 6’ 1”, 220 pound wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey and 6’ 6”, 300 pound offensive tackle Dieugot Joseph to futures contracts. All three are 24 years old and were eligible for the 2017 NFL draft. Yancey was a fifth round pick of the Green Bay Packers in that draft, while Toth and Joseph went undrafted. All three players ended the 2018 season on the Jets practice squad. And we have another week of football to review. Let’s take a look at what’s going on around the AFC East:Buffalo Bills 5-9The Buffalo Bills won a squeaker against a weak Detroit team that has been extremely streaky this season Youth C.J. Mosley Jerseys , and we saw more of the same from Allen and the Bills defense. Allen has shown some growth at times and has backed up his pre-draft expectations in terms of athletic potential, but he remains a large question mark as he is still a work in progress. The Bills defense, however, is entirely legitimate. They dominated the Lions offense with the exception of Kenny Golladay, who is one of the more intriguing young wideouts in the league. The Bills coaching staff showed the ability to make halftime adjustments, however, as Golladay recorded 115 yards in the first half, but was limited to 31 yards in the second half. If Allen develops into a decent starter, this team could be dangerous with a dominant defense. Unfortunately for Bills fans C.J. Mosley Jerseys Stitched , the offense lacks talent at every level and will need revamping.Miami Dolphins 7-7The Miami Dolphins were dominated by a Minnesota team that sports a quality, if not elite, defense and a wonky offense. With DeFilippo fired, the new coordinator (Kevin Stefanski) turned to the run as Zimmer had been expecting when the year began. This paid off against the Dolphins, who could not stop the run en route to a 200+ yard rushing game for Minny. On offense, Miami had a couple of big plays that put them on the boards, along with a long pick six from Minkah Fitzpatrick, but otherwise could not block Minnesota linemen, who racked up 9 sacks and allowed only two third down conversions. Miami appears doomed to mediocrity Youth Le’Veon Bell Jersey , with enough talent on defense to keep them in most games, but holes on both sides of the ball and a very mediocre Ryan Tannehill.New England Patriots 9-5Another consecutive loss for a team that isn’t accustomed to it. The New England Patriots are still clearly the power in the AFC East, but holes continue to show as they lose to other playoff or near-playoff caliber teams on the road. As they currently sit at the #3 seed in the playoffs, this could be a difficult playoff period for New Englanders if they can’t find their way back into a playoff bye. This week, New England kept it close with a Steelers team that has varied from dominant to mediocre. Defense was on display as both teams struggled on third down, and despite Brady’s history of pulling out wins in close games, he narrowly failed to score on the Patriots final drive, trailing by 7 points in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. While this team is still dangerous in the playoffs, it doesn’t look like the unstoppable machine it has been for the last decade and a half.New York Jets 4-10As you probably know Le’Veon Bell Jersey Stitched , the New York Jets lost a close game with the Texans this weekend. While no one likes losing, this may be the rare case in which fans have to be pleased with what happened. Sam Darnold put together arguably the best game of his young career while some other young players balled out. Fans of the team who wanted to win at least got a competitive game in which the QB of the future showed a lot of promise. Fans who wanted the team to lose must be even happier, as the loss pushed the Jets into the top 5 in draft order while also knocking the Patriots out of the #2 position in playoff seeding. While that’s all good and well, the real takeaway from this game is that Sam Darnold has what it takes to be an elite quarterback if things go right over the next few years. That’s worth more to the Jets than really anything short of...nothing. The future looked bright this weekend.

in dominant fashion. The team blew past the visiting Los Angeles Chargers with a score of 41-28 and was in control from start to finish Youth Rob Gronkowski Jerseys , despite L.A. adding some points late in the fourth quarter. It was a statement win and the Patriots’ best of the season. Let’s take a look at those who stood out during Sunday’s contest, for better or worse.Winner: QB Tom BradyReportedly fully healed from a sprained MCL suffered in week 10, Tom Brady played an outstanding game against a good Chargers defense — proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with. The 41-year old was in a rhythm from start to finish, spread the football around well, and made tremendous decisions while completing 34 of 44 pass attempts for 343 yards and a touchdown. It was a vintage Brady performance.Winner: The coaching staffNew England came out perfectly prepared for an opponent that actually won more games during the regular season than the Patriots. While the players and their execution deserve plenty of praise, so does the coaching staff. The offense was unstoppable and up four scores before the Chargers even knew what hit them, the defense creatively pressured Philip Rivers all day, and the special teams eliminated the big play return threat. In the playoffs, coaching can very well be the difference and New England still is best in that category.Winner: WR Julian EdelmanIn his first playoff game since Super Bowl 51, Julian Edelman was outstanding. The veteran wide receiver was New England’s top downfield receiving threat and finished the day with nine catches for a team-high (and personal season-high) 151 yards. While Los Angeles attempted to defend the Patriots by using speed in their secondary, the team had no answer to the shifty Edelman.Winner: DE Trey FlowersIn what might have been his last game at Gillette Stadium — he is scheduled to become a free agent in two months — Trey Flowers showed why he is the Patriots’ best front seven defender. The 25-year old dominated at the point of attack and was a big reason why the Chargers’ passing offense never got in a rhythm by consistently moving people or getting into the backfield on stunts. All in all, Flowers registered a sack Rob Gronkowski Jerseys Stitched , a tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits.Winner: RB Sony MichelThe rookie’s first playoff game was a highly successful one. Not only did Sony Michel find the end zone three times, he also dominated the rest of the way. Running behind an excellent offensive line — more on that later — the first-round draft selection gained 129 yards on 24 carries and helped the Patriots control the flow of the game from the get-go. Michel showed burst, tremendous vision, and speed in the open field.Winner: DT Adam ButlerWhile the stat sheet has him with just one tackle and one quarterback hit, it does not tell the whole story of Adam Butler’s game. The second-year man led all Patriots defensive tackles in playing time and was very good at challenging the interior of the Chargers’ offensive line, and opening up things for those around him. New England’s coaching staff trusted Butler to perform despite the high volume of snaps, and he delivered.Loser: Team disciplineIf there is one blemish — and yes, it is nit-picking — coming out of yesterday’s game it is the Patriots’ relatively high number of penalties. Referee Ron Torbert flagged the team nine times on the day, resulting in a loss of 75 yards. Of course, New England was up from the start so the penalties did not hurt that much but they still negated two big plays. The Patriots need to work on this moving into the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium next week.Winner: The offensive lineThe Chargers have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL and the Patriots dominated them at will. In run blocking, Dante Scarnecchia’s unit paved the way for 156 yards on 32 non-kneel down carries — a very good 4.9 yards per run — while it also kept Tom Brady pretty much clean for the day: while he was hit twice Color Rush Damien Harris Jersey , the quarterback was not sacked even once. Star pass rushers Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa were a non-factor, and the Patriots’ blockers up front were a big reason for that.Winner: The lead blockers (Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen, James Develin)Some of the praise for the Patriots’ impressive outing in the trenches has to go to the lead blockers as well — they had a very good day. Dwayne Allen and James Develin were their usual solid selves in rotational roles, while Rob Gronkowski stood out in particular. On multiple occasions he sealed the edge in the run game, took on pass rushers, and showed why he is still an excellent player in this part of the day. Even though he finished with just one 25-yard catch, Gronkowski was one of the best players on the field yesterday.Winner: LB Dont’a HightowerDont’a Hightower’s 2018 campaign started inconsistently, but the veteran has since grown into the player the Patriots re-signed on a four-year, $35.5 million contract two years ago — and he was at his best on Sunday. The 28-year old was active as a pass rusher, communicated well from the heart of the defense, and also was a major factor in limiting the impact of Los Angeles’ dangerous running back duo. In his first playoff game since Super Bowl 51 Youth Damien Harris Jersey , Hightower showed that he is still capable of making game-changing plays.Winner: RB James WhiteDuring last year’s regular season meeting, the Chargers had no answer for James White as a pass catcher. Yesterday was more of the same, as the 26-year old had a dominant performance as Tom Brady’s number one target: the quarterback threw 17 passes towards him, with the back catching 15 of them — tying an NFL postseason record — for 97 yards. White being an option in the short passing game helped negate the pass rush and New England to establish an offensive rhythm from the start on. EDTShareTweetShareShareHere’s My Choice For The Patriots Hall of Fame The three finalists for the Patriots Hall of Fame have come out, and all 3 are very qualified for the honor. The finalists are: Richard Seymour, Mike Vrabel, and Rodney Harrison. The choice is now up to the fans, so who should you vote for? Well, I’m going to give you a complicated answer, because, while I think there is one player most qualified Womens Damien Harris Jersey , he’s not the guy I’ll be voting for. The player who I think is most qualified to be voted in is Richard Seymour. Belichick has said before that they wouldn’t have won the first 3 Super Bowls without Seymour, and he’ll probably end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame eventually as well. I won’t be voting for Seymour though, I’ll be voting for Rodney Harrison. Harrison was a sensational player, and a leader on and off the field for two of the best teams in NFL history. He set the tone for 2003 and 2004 teams, which were led by the defense. But that’s not the biggest reason I’m voting for him. The biggest reason is because he is one of the best safeties in NFL history, and doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. Did you know that he is the only safety and 1 of only 2 players(the other is Ray Lewis) in NFL history with 30 sacks and 30 interceptions? No, you probably didn’t, because no one talk about Harrison as one of the best safeties ever. Because fans didn’t like him, he didn’t get voted into the Pro Bowl, so he doesn’t have the “resume” to get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For instance, in 2003 he was a first team All-Pro and in 2004 he was a second team All-Pro, but he wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl in either of those seasons. He was considered one of the dirtiest players in the league when he was playing Authentic Damien Harris Jersey , but did you ever think he was dirty? He was Ronnie Lott, but he just played in an era that didn’t respect those hard hitting players. So, while both Seymour and Vrabel are deserving of the Hall, I think Harrison is more deserving. Seymour will eventually make it to Canton, and, even though Vrabel deserves to get in, Harrison was a better player than Vrabel. Because of how good he was, and because he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, I’m hoping that Rodney is the pick to get in this year.
Giants-Lions: Winners and losers in the Giants’ position battles

The New York Giants soundly beat the Detroit Lions Womens Jon Halapio Jersey , of Friday night, never trailing after their second possession and winning, 30-17. But, as the coaches will be the first to tell you, the win-loss totals are not the point of preseason. Most of the time they aren’t even interested in the final score. Instead, preseason games are for marking the progress of the team as a whole, for coaches to try things out, and for position battles to be played out on the field. With two preseason games in the books, we can begin to draw trend lines and start to get a glimpse into the coaching staff’s thought process. And with that in mind, let’s check in on some of the Giants’ biggest position battles. Backup quarterbackThis wasn’t included in the battles last week, but after Davis Webb’s Week 1 performance, it is a position we have to keep an eye on.Winner: Davis Webb might be THE big winner for the Giants on the night. After a bad, unsettled performance against the Cleveland Browns, Webb got the start and looked composed, decisive, and accurate. He responded to the faith from the Giants’ coaching staff by slinging the ball all over the field with touch and accuracy, finishing with stat line of 14-for-20 (70 percent) for 140 yards and a touchdown. Webb had a few highlight plays, but this one stands out: Center: Jon Halapio vs. Brett JonesLast week I thought Brett Jones came away with the better performance — and the win. The Giants, apparently Jabrill Peppers Jersey , disagreed and Halapio remained the starting center through the next week of practice. It is difficult to say whether either center established an advantage over the other. It did stand out that Halapio failed to snap the ball despite Webb calling for it, resulting in a delay of game penalty. Wide receiverThe Giants have a horde of young receivers and journeyman vets looking to carve out roles on the depth chart. These preseason games are important for all of them as they seek a place on both offense and special teams. WinnersCody Latimer - Latimer finally stepped up and showed why the Giants made him a free agent priority. He displayed great body control and subtle route running to create separation and make plays on the ball. Russell Shepard - Shepard showed solid concentration through coverage to make deep reception. Shepard didn’t have much separation, but in a crowded wide receiver room, being able to make a play despite being covered could be a difference maker.Kalif Raymond showed some upside as a returner, as well as some sharp route running and nice hands on a high pass over the middle.LosersHunter Sharp once again got the first team chances as the starting kick and punt returner, and struggled with ball security. He also failed to make an impression as a receiver, with one catch on two targets for no yards.CornerbackWho will man the slot corner position? Who will back up Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple? Are those players even on the roster right now? The Giants need answers to those questions by the final preseason game, and they got another set of data points against the Lions. WinnersB.W. Webb - Webb has showed a reassuring combination of veteran savvy and solid fundamentals. Last week he used the sideline as an extra defender to prevent a touchdown pass, this week he was solid as a sub-package defender with the first team and with the second team.LosersGrant Haley - The UDFA rookie struggled at the end of the game. He missed some tackles and played sloppier as the game wore on. He made a nice play to prevent a touchdown at the end of the fourth quarter. He showed that he is a rookie, but a rookie with some upside.Mike Jones - The Lions continually picked on Jones, a rookie who just signed a few days ago, resulting in several receptions and two pass interference penalties.SafetyWho is going to be the other starting safety beside Landon Collins? Curtis Riley has been that throughout the off-season, but the the Giants have featured a lively rotation of potential starters through camp. WinnersMichael Thomas - Thomas was, once again, all over the field. Pratt has only been a linebacker for one year, converting from safety for his final year at NC State. He has plenty of experience in zone coverage from his days as a DB, but is still finding his way as a down-hill run defending linebacker. Pratt might start his career as a special teamer or sub-package player, but he could grow into a larger role as he learns the nuances of the linebacker position. At the very least he is likely an upgrade from Tae Davis. With the very next pick, the Giants added an outside receiver in DaMarkus Lodge from Ole Miss. Lodge was as a deep threat almost exclusively and has good long speed, but his route running and lateral agility remain questions. He also flashes the ball skills to make highlight-reel catches, but also shows inconsistencies catching the ball and can drop some “gimmie” passes. Lodge does have plenty of skill at getting clean releases against tight coverage, and could help free up the short area of the field for the rest of the Giants’ offense, in addition to being a tough, physical blocker for his teammates. The Giants have a third pick in the the fifth round, the 171st overall pick, or the first of three compensatory picks at the end of the round.
Sam Darnold Has Faced One of the Toughest Defensive

Schedules in the NFL Much has been made about the challenges thrown at Sam Darnold this early in his career. He had to play 3 games in 10 days out of the gate. 3 of his first 4 games were on the road. He has faced a terrifying cluster of defenses. So Blake Cashman NFL Jersey , with all of that in mind, I was curious to see what the numbers said about the difficulty of Darnold’s start. How tough of a schedule has Darnold faced through five weeks compared to the rest of the league’s starting quarterbacks?I looked at the 30 quarterbacks in the league who have thrown at least 100 passing attempts to this point in time. For each, I went through their schedule and compiled the average pass defense DVOA of their opponents.DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) is a signature stat of Football Outsiders that weights the raw numbers based on game situations and opponents in order to get a more accurate gauge on true value. Here are the results, with 30 quarterbacks ranked by the average pass defense DVOA rankings of their opponents.Darnold checks in with the third-hardest slate of pass defenses faced. After kicking off the year against Detroit’s #29 pass defense, Darnold had a tough three-game stretch against the #5 Dolphins, the #2 Browns, and the #3 Jaguars. He got back into the win column against the Broncos’ #18 unit.Only Marcus Mariota and Derek Carr have had a rougher group of pass defenses opposite them through the early part of the season. Among rookies Blake Cashman NFL Draft , Darnold has had the hardest run. Josh Allen checks in a few spots behind at 7th, while Baker Mayfield is in the middle of the pack at 16th. Josh Rosen has not even thrown 60 passes yet, so he missed the qualification cutoff. His two starts were against Seattle’s #8 pass defense unit and San Francisco’s #23 unit. The rest of the Jets’ schedule presents a mixed bag. The Jets have a few games left against teams ranked highly at the moment but don’t seem to have the talent to hold up their current spots. The team still has two games against the Bills, who are currently ranked 7th, and one against the Dolphins, who as mentioned are ranked 5th.The Jets will take on Minnesota in a couple of weeks. The Vikings are currently way down at 26th in pass defense DVOA, but that is a team loaded with talent that seems due to start climbing that ladder. The Jets also have a road date with the current top-ranked pass defense in the Chicago Bears.Gang Green Nation’s Interactive Reader Map With the 2018 season fast approaching Blake Cashman Buffalo Bills Jersey , I thought it would be a cool experiment to create a map that allows Gang Green Nation’s readers to “pin” what city they live in. This will help us connect with our fellow Jets fans, especially for us living outside of the New York area.Add your username and location and maybe you’ll find someone to watch the Jets games with each Sunday at the local sports bar. After all, strength comes in numbers and we have a responsibility to show the world, no matter which city, that the New York Jets truly have the best fan base.I personally live in Nashville, Tennessee, and would be more than happy to coordinate a location to watch the games at with fellow readers from the area.To add your location: Additions -> Add Marker - simple. Then put your username in the “Entry Name” box.Click Here to Add to the MapEdit: I didn’t realize that the site places a limit on how many map views you can have before they want to charge you a subscription.Due to the vast number of people who participated in adding their location to the map Color Rush Blake Cashman Jersey , we have already hit this limit. I wonder if there is anybody who would like to see if I could connect them to readers in their city to watch the game with.If you’re interested in this, feel free to email me at samlsheryll@gmail.com, and I’ll try to connect some people based on location!

The Patriots receiver will be back in 2019

. Whether or not he plays is a different question."New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has signed his restricted free agent tender Kendarius Webster Jersey NFL Draft , per ESPN’s Field Yates. Gordon’s availability to play in 2019 is in question due to repeated violations of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy, but if he gets clearance to play it will be in New England. The Patriots acquired Gordon in the middle of last season and Gordon helped the team secure a first round bye en route to winning another Super Bowl. Gordon caught 40 passes for 720 yards and received a Super Bowl ring despite facing an indefinite ban for violating the league’s drug policy in December.Hopefully Gordon can receive the help he needs off the field because that should always be the priority. If he’s able to return to the field with the Patriots, that should just be considered a bonus. New England shouldn’t change their approach to the wide receiver position in the draft with this news, but the idea of a receiving corps with a healthy Julian Edelman, Demaryius Thomas, and Josh Gordon is certainly tantalizing- and who knows, maybe that could get Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement for one last ride. LAS VEGAS (AP) 鈥?Thousands of football fans from around the country converge at Las Vegas casinos every February to place their bets on the Super Bowl's winner, MVP, first touchdown scorer and hundreds of other outcomes. They cheer, boo and hold their breath as they watch every moment of the game at sportsbooks Kendarius Webster Jersey Buffalo Bills Jersey , VIP parties and other gatherings. If they're lucky, they then get in long lines to cash out. That enthusiasm is worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Las Vegas, and for the first time Sunday, it will face legal competition outside Nevada as casinos in seven more states have opened sportsbooks since the U.S. Supreme Court issued a relevant ruling in May. But the race for the betting dollars is not worrying officials or casino operators. This Super Bowl, they say, will be business as usual.Their confidence comes from the magnetism of Las Vegas: Storied casinos, superb hospitality and dining, plus a growing list of world-class entertainment options that together create the Sin City vibe that draws millions every year. Seldom do people come to this desert oasis nowadays exclusively to bet."People come to Vegas for four-five hours around the Super Bowl, but they come for a lot more to fill the other 48 hours that they are here in town for that weekend," said Jay Rood Color Rush Kendarius Webster Jersey , who heads sports betting operations for MGM Resorts International. "I really don't think that Vegas, or Nevada, has anything to worry about in the future. I think it's only going to increase our customer base and probably deliver more people to our doorstep."Tourism officials expect 306,000 people to travel to Las Vegas for Super Bowl weekend, with a projected economic impact of $426 million. The figures from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority represent a $1.4 million year-over-year increase in economic impact with about the same number of visitors.Gamblers wagered a record $158.6 million on the big game at Nevada's nearly 200 sportsbooks last year, over $20.1 million more than in 2017. But the sportsbooks made a profit of only about $1.2 million, as some reported six- and seven-figure losses in part because of a seemingly deep-pocketed mystery bettor.Nevada's effective monopoly on sports betting ended last spring, when the Supreme Court struck down a federal ban on that form of gambling. Casinos in seven other states 鈥?Rhode Island, Delaware, Mississippi Youth Kendarius Webster Jersey , New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Mexico鈥?are accepting wagers on the game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. And by 2020, the list could be longer with lawmakers in two dozen states thinking about allowing sports betting. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which is responsible for promoting the destination, estimates that 93.5 percent of the city's roughly 147,000 available rooms will be booked this weekend."In addition to weather that's better than most of the country right now, we have so many other amenities you can build out a full weekend," said Jacqueline Peterson, the authority's chief communications officer. "Yes Womens Kendarius Webster Jersey , you can sit down and watch the big game and have a great time. But before and after, we have the best clubs and bars and restaurants in the world. Some amazing shows are in town this weekend."Lady Gaga, American rock band ZZ Top, George Strait and Van Morrison are among those with shows scheduled.MGM Resorts anticipates the majority of its Las Vegas Strip properties will be sold out. Rood said he has already taken several six-figure wagers and anticipated he will get three or four wagers topping $1 million each. He expects Rams supporters from nearby southern California to start showing up in Las Vegas by Friday afternoon.MGM and the Westgate Las Vegas casino-hotel had the Patriots as 2 1/2-point favorite Thursday. The Westgate Las Vegas casino-hotel expects to be at capacity, too. It will host a gathering for 1,200 of its VIP customers, a private event for over 2,000 people and a party for about 1,500 people that's open to the public at the theater where Elvis Presley once performed. A satellite betting station will be centrally placed to allow partygoers to bet without missing much of the game.Longtime Las Vegas oddsmaker Jay Kornegay believes bettors in Nevada will set another record this year. He said some of the big bettors have made arrangements to wire money ahead of the game, with 80 to 85 percent of all the bets historically coming in the last two days before the game."It's an important weekend for us Authentic Kendarius Webster Jersey , and when I say us, I'm talking about the city of Las Vegas because we have to put on our best show to keep them coming back not just for next year's game, but throughout the entire year," said Kornegay, the Westgate's vice president of race and sports book operations. "It's all hands on deck throughout the entire city."

Jaguars at Giants: We’ll find out pretty quickly what Giants

have on offense This is it. Football is back and on Sunday the New York Giants will get the first chance to put the miserable 2017 season behind the Womens Corey Ballentine Jersey ,. Unfortunately that first game comes against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that had the league’s best defense last season. It’s certainly going to be a test for the Giants offense to start the season, but there’s a number of things to watch on that side of the ball.Open ‘er upThere’s been a lot of projection through the offseason and preseason about what the Giants offense might look like. But the reality is we have no idea. Saquon Barkley played one preseason game. Odell Beckham played none. It’s a complete mystery what this team is going to look like on offense. This is when everything gets unleashed. We’ll see about the motions. We’ll see about the play-action. We’ll see how the likes of Beckham, Barkley, Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram get lined up from snap-to-snap. We’ll see if the offensive line can hold up. We’ll see if the Giants really want to rely on the ground game or if Barkley’s biggest contributions will come in the passing game. There’s no more holding back and running vanilla schemes in the preseason. We’re going to get what the Giants have been planning and the first glimpse of what this offense that had a lot of resources put into it during the offseason.Jalen RamseyPhoto by Adam Glanzman/Getty ImagesThe matchup everybody wants to seeWhat many people are going to talk about is the matchup between Odell Beckham and Jalen Ramsey. It’s one of the best offensive players against one of the best defensive players in the league. We don’t get many of those during the season. It’s also fair to wonder just how much we’ll actually get it on Sunday. The Jaguars defense isn’t just Ramsey — there’s another really talented cornerback on the other side of the field in A.J. Bouye. Per Sports Info Solutions charting from Football Outsiders, Ramsey was first in adjusted yards per pass and seventh in Success Rate among qualified cornerbacks. Bouye was 12th and 20th.Because of that, the Jags kept their corners on “sides” 78 percent of the team, which was 16th-most in the league, per Football Outsiders. But against some of the best receivers Jacksonville faced last season, they allowed Ramsey to move around a bit. Per Pro Football Focus, Ramsey followed T.Y Hilton, Larry Fitzgerald, and DeAndre Hopkins on at least 60 percent of their snaps. He was also on A.J. Green, but that battle was cut short after both were ejected in the first half. Last season the Jaguars were first in DVOA against opposing No. 1 receivers by allowing just 42 yards per game. While this one-on-one battle will be what a lot of people are watching for, it might be worth watching how much the Giants try to avoid it. The Giants could test how much the Jaguars want Ramsey to follow Beckham by putting the receiver in the slot, but still putting a receiving threat on the outside like Engram or Barkley. This will be a continual cat and mouse game throughout Sunday. We’ll have a bigger breakdown on Ramsey later in the week.Trench warfareNo team is spending more on its defensive line this season than the Jaguars. There’s good reason for that. Calais Campbell. Yannick Ngakoue. Malik Jackson. Marcell Dareus. There’s depth behind that, too. Jacksonville has guys that can line up anywhere on the defensive line and beat and single or combination blocks along the offensive line. Last season Campbell was 17th among defenders in pressures and Ngakoue was 26th per Sports Info Solutions. That’s going to test the new look Giants offensive line that has four new starters and Ereck Flowers at right tackle. For all the talk Dave Gettleman made about improving up front White Lawrence Taylor Jerseys , it’s possible that line looks a lot like last year’s against the Jaguars on Sunday.Where the Jaguars did struggle last season was against the run — 27th in DVOA — though that did improve with the addition of Dareus midseason. Pat ShurmurPhoto by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty ImagesFollow a blueprintThat’s what Ramsey told GQ about Jimmy Garoppolo and the Week 16 game that saw the San Francisco 49ers slice through the Jacksonville defense. And to an extent Ramsey was right. The Niners scheme in that game was perfect for attacking the Jags on defense. It’s something other teams should look at when facing Jacksonville this season, so let’s look at a few things that worked in that game.First we’ll take a look at an easy 13-yard gain on a third-and-2 at the start of the game. The Niners came out in 12 personnel (two tight ends) with both tight ends in line to the left and the two receivers out to the left. The running back was also in shotgun to the quarterback’s left. At the snap, the running back and inside tight end ran quick curls which froze three of the second-level defenders on that side. That allowed George Kittle to run a post behind those defenders and in front of the safety for an easy catch.Later on the drive the 49ers came out in 11 personnel against a single-high safety on third-and-7. Marquise Goodwin initially lined up wide to the right across from Ramsey, but motioned into a stacked position with Kendrick Bourne in the slot. With that motion and the stack, Ramsey stayed slightly outside and when Goodwin broke inside, there was enough schemed separation that Ramsey couldn’t break on the pass and it led to a 24-yard gain. This last play is something we’ve brought up before — disguising the run, going heavy, drawing a stacked box, and unloading play-action. This is a first-and-10 from the 25. San Francisco came out in 21 personnel. Teams ran 57 percent of the time from 21 personnel on first down last season, per Sharp Football Stats. All signs point to a run. The Jaguars have eight men in the box and commit to the handoff as soon as the ball is snapped. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk looks like he’s going to hit linebacker Telvin Smith (50) on the lead block, but instead runs right past him. By the time Paul Posluszny realizes it’s a pass he’s too far behind to do anything about it. Juszczyk had a clear path down the sideline for a big gain. And, how will they do it now?"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections New York Giants NewsGiants Training Camp 2016Giants vs. Eagles 2015, Week 17New York Giants NewsWhy haven’t the Giants addressed right tackle yet?New,246commentsAnd, how will they do it now?EDTShareTweetShareShareWhy haven’t the Giants addressed right tackle yet?Mike RemmersGreg M. Cooper-USA TODAY SportsThe obvious hole in the New York Giants’ offseason to date is that they have yet to make an aggressive move to upgrade the right tackle spot, where Ereck Flowers played himself out of town and Chad Wheeler graded as one of the league’s worst players at the position.Scott Wright of Draft Countdown brought that up this week on the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast. Matt Williamson hit on that point in assessing the Giants’ draft class. Yours truly also touched on it in reviewing the draft. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that’s one area the Giants would like to address, but have as of yet been unable to find a match. It’s just not possible to sign or draft everybody that you would like to have.Let’s take a step back and assess what has happened that left the Giants so far unable to fill that hole Authentic Corey Ballentine Jersey , and what they can still do about it.The draftThe biggest reality when it comes to right tackle is that the Giants’ first-round decisions made it virtually impossible for them to land a plug and play right tackle on the first two days of the draft.Andre Dillard (22nd, Philadelphia Eagles) and Tytus Howard (23rd, Houston Texans) were there when the Giants took defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence at No. 17. Had the Giants not taken Lawrence there, perhaps edge Montez Sweat (26th, Washington Redskins) was still more likely.Trading up to get Deandre Baker 30th overall cost the Giants their 37th overall pick, a fourth-round pick (132nd) and a fifth-round pick (142nd). For a minute, let’s consider right tackle candidates at those spots, and at 95 (where the Giants selected edge rusher Oshane Ximines) and 109 (cornerback Julian Love). The Giants could have traded up to No. 30 for Kaleb McGary or Jawaan Taylor, but made the move for the player they thought was the draft’s best cornerback. On a defense where man coverage skills are critical that’s hard to argue with.At 37, the Carolina Panthers (who got the pick from Seattle) took offensive tackle Greg Little.Maybe the Giants would have taken Little. Maybe not. At 95, they left offensive tackles Bobby Evans and Yodny Cajuste on the board to take Ximines. Considering that many wonder if they did enough to directly help their pass rush, hard to fault them taking one of the last true pass rushers available at that point. At 108, the Giants took Love, who GM Dave Gettleman said was “sticking out like a sore thumb” on the team’s board. At that point, Gettleman said he felt like the “value was pretty much wiped out” at offensive tackle.Want evidence of that? Cajuste was taken with the 101st pick by the New England Patriots. The next offensive tackle off the board was David Edwards of Wisconsin 68 picks later. He went 169th to the Los Angeles Rams, two picks before the Giants took wide receiver Darius Slayton. Sure, the Giants could have traded up. But Lawrence Taylor Jerseys 2019 , they chose not to. They chose a wide receiver with 4.3 speed Gettleman said can “flat fly.” The GM compared Slayton to DeSean Jackson and Ted Ginn, saying he can “take the top off the coverage.”In the end, they made a choice. They valued Baker and defense, with the picks they surrendered pretty much taking them out of the tackle market.George Asafo-Adjei of Kentucky, taken in Round 7, is probably a developmental player and not one the Giants would want to rely on as a full-time starter in 2019.So, what’s the answer? We have talked about this before, but that is probably going to be signing veteran Mike Remmers as a stop-gap solution next to Kevin Zeitler.Remmers, formerly with the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings, is familiar to Gettleman and coach Pat Shurmur. He visited with the Giants early in free agency, and Gettleman acknowledged the team is still monitoring him.“Well, he’s still rehabbing [from back surgery], and we’re continuing to talk with him, so we’ll see,” Gettleman said. “Going to bring him in and take another look eventually.”The Giants may wait to sign Remmers until he can pass a physical. If it isn’t Remmers, you have to believe the Giants will continue to monitor rosters around the league all the way up to Week 1 of the season to see who becomes available.

A four-year member of the Hornets, Howard earned an invite to the Senior Bowl following a senior season where he started all 11 games Youth Shaq Lawson Jerseys , leading the team in pancake blocks while allowing only one sack. He was named first-team all Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2018 after holding league pass rushers at bay, but his success wasn’t limited to smaller schools. Howard held his own with a solid performance in the regular season against SEC power Auburn. Howard has been lauded for his quickness and his ability as both a run and pass blocker. NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah thinks Howard could even sneak into the bottom of the first round of April’s draft. Buffalo Bills fans recently told us they would be interested seeing how former Bills players have been doing in the Alliance of American Football (AAF). Starting off with former members that are in managerial roles in the league we have Bill Polian who was a co-founder of the AAF. Also, Pete Metzelaars is the offensive-line coach for the Atlanta Legends. When we get to the players, the Birmingham Iron has former Bills’ punter Colton Schmidt. In his first game he had three punts averaging 44 yards with two punts downed inside the ten-yard line. Cornerback Rob Brooks made an impact in his first game with the San Diego Fleet, notching three tackles and an interception on the day.One of the more interesting players for the Bills who was on the team and then off the team a couple of times is Kaelin Clay Shaq Lawson Jerseys Stitched , who now plays for the Salt Lake Stallions. However, he did not have any catches in his team’s first game of the season. Some notable offensive lineman playing in the AAF include Cyril Richardson, Marquis Lucas, Mo Porter, and Chris Martin.Like many of you Youth Frank Gore Jerseys , we’re interested to see how all of these former players perform. Perhaps even a few can earn another shot with the Bills going into next season. The New York Giants looked mostly lifeless in an embarrassing 34-13 Thursday night loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Unlike last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers when all the big and meaningful plays came late in the game, most of those came in the first half on Thursday — the Giants started the second quarter with an 18 percent win probability and it didn’t get much closer. These are the biggest plays in the game, by Win Probability Added (WPA) and Expected Points Added (EPA), per data from nflscrapR. Explainers here (WPA) and here (EPA).Both WPA and EPA presented from the perspective of the offense. Not a great start - 14:24, first quarterEPA: minus-6.18 | WPA: minus-14.9 percentThe tone of this game was set fairly early. On the second play from scrimmage — a second-and-2 — Eli Manning forced a short pass to tight end Scott Simonson into tight coverage — Next Gen Stats tracked 0.53 yards of separation. Simonson started because Evan Engram was still out and Rhett Ellison was also inactive Thursday night. Linebacker Jordan Hicks (58) was able to charge and deflect the ball Cody Latimer Jerseys 2019 , which fell into the hands of Kamu Grugier-Hill (54) for an interception. An improbable touchdown - 13:27, first quarterEPA: 3.47 | WPA: 11.9 percentThe interception set the Eagles up with the ball on the Giants’ 16-yard line. Three plays later, Philadelphia put the ball in the end zone, though it wasn’t easy. A recently returned Olivier Vernon pushed Carson Wentz from the pocket to his right. Wentz then threw back across his body to the middle of the field, where Alshon Jeffery was charging in the end zone. Per Next Gen Stats, the expected completion percentage of that play was just 18.2 percent, which makes it the 12th least-likely completion of the 2018 season so far.Barkley breaks one, part one - 11:50, first quarterEPA: 2.58 | WPA: 8.6 percentSaquon Barkley had a big day as really the only functioning piece of the offense — and even that only came when he was breaking big gains and breaking tackles. While Barkley did do plenty on his own, this big 46-yard run was opened by a pull from guard Will Hernandez. The run got the Giants to the Philadelphia 18, but after a 3-yard Wayne Gallman run and two incompletions, the Giants settled for a field goal.A stolen interception - 8:45, first quarterEPA: 4.31 | WPA: 14.8 percentThis play could have been a huge turning point in the game. On a third-and-7 from the Eagles’ own 17, Kareem Martin got a hand on the arm of Wentz as he went to throw a pass. The ball floated up in the air and looked to be heading into the waiting arms of Landon Collins. But since Collins had to stop and change direction for the ball, he couldn’t charge it and could only wait. In that time, Nelson Agholor charged in front White Patrick Omameh Jerseys , caught the floater, and gained 32 yards. Philadelphia would eventually punt, but they did so from the 40, better than inside their own 20 or giving the Giants the ball on an interception.Barkley breaks one, part two - 8:06, second quarterEPA: 3.56 | WPA: 9.9 percentBarkley’s second big play was a screen pass taken 55 yards down to the Philadelphia 13. The Giants were only down 14-3 at that point, even after getting a roughing the passer penalty on a failed third down, the Giants were still held out of the end zone. They got down to the 3, but a 21-yard field goal was the call. The Giants would not come closer than eight points for the remainder of the game.Agholor gets free - 5:13, second quarterEPA: 4.21 | WPA: 9.0 percentOn the next drive, Nelson Agholor came through with another play that wasn’t really designed for him. The Eagles faced a third-and-3 from the Philadelphia 32. Wentz rolled out to his right on play-action, and with nothing really open, Agholor altered his route which left Eli Apple well behind him and he was clear for a 58-yard reception down the the Giants’ 10-yard line. Ertz in the end zone - 4:28, second quarterEPA: 2.16 | WPA: 3.0 percentThe next play was maybe mentally a dagger but in reality, the game was already decided. Philadelphia motioned from a full house look to a more traditional formation that put Zach Ertz on the left side of the line. With no wide receivers on that side, it left Ertz one-on-one against Janoris Jenkins. Over his career Patrick Omameh Jerseys 2019 , Jenkins has been susceptible to double moves and Ertz is one of the best of setting those up in the red zone. That’s exactly what happened and Ertz was wide open for a 10-yard touchdown. The play only added three percent win probability because the Eagles were already at 90 percent before the touchdown.Barkley breaks one, part three - 6:19, third quarterEPA: 3.97 | WPA: 3.2 percentDown 31-6 and despite the wishes of some, the Giants continued with the running game. The result was another ridiculous Barkley run for a 50-yard touchdown. The back finished the game with 130 yards rushing and 99 yards receiving, his sixth-straight game of at least 100 yards from scrimmage. However, this was also just Barkley’s second game with positive expected points added as a runner and the previous game (Week 4) was just a total of 0.63.Late third down conversions - 5:34, third quarterEPA: 2.53 | WPA: 2.7 percentLate in the game, the Giants couldn’t get off the field on defense. Early in the season, the Giants defense excelled on third down but struggled on first and second. On larger samples, performance on first and second down is more predictive than third down and that appears to be the case for this Giants season on both sides of the ball. On third-and-8, the Giants lined up defenders on the first down marker who then dropped back a few yards and left room for a catch and run, which happened here to Jordan Matthews. And another - 3:29, third quarterEPA: 3.19 | WPA: 3.1 percentOverall, the Eagles were 9-of-16 on third downs in the game but were 6-of-9 in the second half. Here’s a look at the Eagles offensive looking at those second half third down conversion attempts:
