How did I rank them, you might ask? Good question! I stacked them up according to their scores as calculated by my genius formula — proven to be 100% accurate and 0% arbitrary!Players earned points for accomplishing any of the following while in a Jets uniform:50 points for a first team All-Pro appearance25 points for a Pro Bowl appearance1 point for each point of Approximate Value (via Pro Football Reference - a number that aims to calculate a player’s total value)0.5 points for each regular season game playedYesterday, I continued the rankings at #2 with Darrelle Revis. Let’s move up to the green and white throne at #1!#11 - Jerricho Cotchery (94.5 points)#10 - Sione Pouha (107 points)#9 - Laveranues Coles (110.5 points)#8 - Bryan Thomas (141.5 points)#7 - Muhammad Wilkerson (148.5 points)#6 - David Harris (174 points)#5 - John Abraham (208.5 points)#4 - D’Brickashaw Ferguson (224 points)#3 - Shaun Ellis (226 points)#2 - Darrelle Revis (413 points)#1 - NICK MANGOLD441 points: 84 approximate value (tied for third among all Jets draft picks since 2000), 164 regular season games played (second), seven Pro Bowl appearances, two first team All-Pro appearancesPhoto by Jim McIsaac/Getty ImagesBorn in Centerville, Ohio and attended high school in Kettering, OhioSelected 29th overall by the Jets in the first round of the 2006 Draft (Ohio State)Played entire career with Jets from 2006-16Fast facts (Stats are regular season only unless otherwise indicated)Mangold is tied for seventh in league history in Pro Bowl appearances by a center, with seven. He is also second in Pro Bowl appearances for the Jets, behind only Winston Hill, who was named to eight Pro Bowls.Weird fact: Mangold collected nine tackles in his career, making him the all-time Jets leader among offensive linemen. D’Brickashaw Ferguson is a close second with eight. Mangold checks in tied for 17th on the NFL’s all-time list for tackles among offensive linemen. The more you know!Over his final five seasons in the league (70 games), Mangold committed a shockingly low total of only four penalties. From 2012-16, he never committed more than one flag in a season. How good is that? In 2018, Spencer Long and Jonotthan Harrison combined for nine penalties at the center position! Mangold had 10 penalties over his final 100 regular season games! For his career, Mangold averaged only 1.95 total penalties per 16 games.Photo by Tom Berg/NFLPhotoLibraryPhoto by Rick Stewart/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jarrett Baker/Getty ImagesPhoto by Rick Stewart/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesPhoto by Elsa/Getty ImagesPhoto by Christian Petersen/Getty ImagesPhoto by Jeff Zelevansky/Getty ImagesPhoto by Peter Aiken/Getty ImagesPhoto by Thomas B. I don’t typically watch every game of every season in All-22 and therefore it’s pretty difficult to tell you exactly what I think about each signing. There are team-building strategies to consider, however, and with that in mind, there’s a lot to like about how the Jets have worked the free agency thus far. For contrast, I’d like to look all the way back to 2015. Way back in this forgotten time when things were simple, the Jets were in an extremely similar position. The team was being led by a third year QB and were among the top 3 in cap space after their 4-12 season. The team was seriously lacking in talent, but had a mountain of cap space and plenty of high draft picks due to their 4-12 record. The free agency period went in a very different direction, however. In 2015, Maccagnan signed, re-signed, or traded for a list of players that included (among others) Brandon Marshall, Buster Skrine, David Harris, Darrelle Revis, James Carpenter, Antonio Cromartie, Marcus Gilchrist, Stephen Bowen, Kellen Davis, and Stephen Ridley. Four seasons later and not one of those players figures to play for the Jets. Of those signings, the biggest deals went to guys on the back nine of their career or worse. David Harris Womens Blake Cashman Jersey , Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Brandon Marshall got a combined $149.5M, and none of them were Jets two years later. In fact, only Buster Skrine and James Carpenter made it through 2018, and neither was a really positive contributor by that point. Thus far in 2019, the Jets have targeted Le’Veon Bell, C.J. Mosley, Anthony Barr (despite his departure, he was a player the Jets clearly coveted), Kelechi Osemele, and Jamison Crowder.Right now, those players are 27, 26, 26, 29, and 25 years old, respectively. The oldest player on that list, Kelechi Osemele, plays a position with a long shelf life, unlike the cornerbacks and wide receiver the Jets added in 2015. While I’m not completely sure how I feel about a lot of these additions Authentic Blake Cashman Jersey , I do approve of the strategy of adding young players that should be around for several years. Despite all of this spending, the Jets have boasted only 1 Pro Bowl starter and 1 All Pro player over the last three years in Jamal Adams this season (not counting special teams or alternates.) The combination of Bell, Mosley, and Osemele alone counts for 2 first team All Pros, 3 second team All Pros, and 7 Pro Bowl appearances (even without Bell playing last year and Barr sticking with the Vikes) over that same span. Whether or not I like all the choices, I have to admit that the Jets have added a lot of young talent. In 2015, the Jets bounced back from a 4-12 team to narrowly missing the playoffs at 10-6. It was an exciting season to watch, but the team was sorely lacking in young talent and crashed back to earth with 3 straight seasons without a 6th win, finishing dead last in the AFC East each time. The spending spree mirrored the Giants in 2016, jumping from 6 wins to 11 due to the additions of many free agent acquisitions. In the last two years, they’ve compiled 8 total wins and have one of the weakest rosters coming into 2019 despite a tricky cap situation in which they will pay a single player $16M to play for another team this year alone. There are myriad similar free agency examples of this type of team building that I won’t get into, but to make a long story short, you can’t build consistency through free agency. It’s a good tool for augmenting a good team with aging veterans or adding the occasional overpriced young stud, but long-term success is built through the draft. If you fail there, you have to do what you can with the piles of cap space you will inevitably have to use. If you’re a 0-5 win team, you’re probably not going to be a Super Bowl contender next year and your best chance is to buy high on guys who will be around by the time the team could make a push. The Jets paid big money to guys near retirement in 2015 and I was disappointed that they couldn’t accept that the Jets needed a full reboot. While I’m still far from sold on risky signings like Bell, I’m glad the Jets haven’t fallen into the same hole this year as in 2015.

Jets QB Davis Webb looked like a practice squad project in preseason

As you probably know Authentic Chuma Edoga Jersey , the Jets have a new developmental quarterback. Davis Webb was a third round pick of the Giants just last year. He was surprisingly waived last weekend and went unclaimed. The Jets signed him to their practice squad earlier in the week.I found myself curious about this situation. It isn’t every day that a team gives up on a day two pick after just one season. Even Christian Hackenberg got two seasons to try and prove he was worth something. Some Giants fans suggested this move was a power move by new general manager Dave Gettleman. Webb was drafted by the old general manager. Gettleman selected his own developmental quarterback this year, Kyle Lauletta. That made Webb obsolete for reasons that went beyond merit. Things like this do happen in the NFL. It wouldn’t be the first time a general manager made a move based on ego. Still, something didn’t seem right. Almost every team in the NFL is looking for talent at the quarterback position. Surely it reasoned that some team would be willing to give up a late round pick for somebody with potential at the most important position on the field. Webb was a third round pick just last year after all. The Giants ended up cutting him, however, indicating there was no trade interest.Even more strikingly, every other team then had a chance to claim Webb off waivers, acquiring him for nothing. Nobody did. Even though he was a guy who seemed to have potential on paper, not a single one of the 32 teams in the league was willing to offer him a spot on the 53 man roster. He ended up settling for a practice squad spot instead.I wanted to get to the bottom of this. The first place I looked was at Webb’s preseason stats, and boy they were ugly. Webb only completed 52.8% of his passes and averaged 5.3 yards per attempt. That’s brutal. Still, stats at the quarterback position don’t tell the whole story. Sam Darnold’s efficiency was just a hair better at 5.4 yards per attempt in the 2018 preseason. Yet when you went play by play with Darnold, there was a competency that the numbers didn’t show. Was Webb the victim of a similar misfortune? I decided to take a look at his preseason passing attempts. After doing that, I came to a simply conclusion. Webb is an enormous project who has a very, very long way to go if he ever wants to find success on the NFL level. He has a remedial grasp of some very basic elements of the quarterback position. Maybe Gettleman was influenced a bit by not wanting somebody else’s project on his team, but Webb made the decision easy by showing so little promise in the preseason.I’ll spare you being forced to watch all of the snaps Chuma Edoga Jersey Boys , but I will take you through a few of the major issues I saw.Pocket CommandWebb has a pretty clean pocket on this play. There’s plenty of room for him to step up in the pocket.Instead he bails on the pocket for no reason and runs himself right into defenders who would been pushed out of the way had he hung tough. His pocket panic leads to a sack. Here you’ll see pressure off the edge, but Webb once again has plenty of room to step up in the pocket to try and find something down the field. Instead he sees pressure and dumps it off for a minimal gain. AccuracyA 52.8% completion percentage is ugly and indicative of extreme inaccuracy. To be certain, there were a number of open receivers whom Webb targeted with wildly inaccurate throws that fell incomplete. I could put together a video of Hackenbergian UFO’s from Webb’s 2018 preseason. But I want to point out something else. Poor accuracy doesn’t just lead to incompletions. It also leads to completions producing less than they should.Take this play near the end of the first half. The Giants were in field goal range and out of timeouts. They were looking for a quick completion to the sideline to get a little bit closer and stop the clock. Webb hits the pass, but it is not a well-placed football. The receiver has to slow down to adjust to it because the ball is a little behind him. This allowed a defender to get to him to make a tackle, which ran out the clock. If Webb’s pass had led the receiver, he could have caught it in stride and easily made it to the sideline to preserve the field goal attempt. This inaccurate throw led to a completion, but it cost the Giants a shot at three points. On this third down play, wide receiver Kalif Raymond wins and gets inside of the cornerback covering him. With a step on the cornerback, an accurate throw that led Raymond and hit him in stride probably would allow him to get to the sticks for a first down. Instead we again see a throw behind the receiver, which again gives the defender time to catch up and make the tackle. The placement is the difference between a fresh set of downs and a punt.Making ReadsOn this play, the Lions show a look presnap that suggests they will be in Cover 2 with a pair of defenders deep and five defenders in underneath zone. With three receivers lined up on the bottom of the picture and two defenders, Webb believes he will have the yellow guy open. However, after the snap the Lions roll into a Cover 3 with the two outside corners dropping into a deep zone and one of the safeties driving on the route Webb is looking at.Webb is fooled, and the result is an incompletion. That one isn’t necessarily the end of the world. A young quarterback is going to get fooled presnap by a disguised look a defense throws at him from time to time.Let’s look at another situation. This play call gives Webb a really simple read. Where he goes with the ball is determined by what the cornerback does in zone coverage. If the corner drives on the short route Infant Chuma Edoga Jersey , the deeper receiver will be open.If he drops deep, the short pass will be open in the flat. The underneath receiver is obscured a bit by the graphic, but the corner here is clearly dropping to take the deep route.Webb ends up trying to force this ball into an impossibly tight window. The underneath guy was open. Mind you this was a first down play, and the Giants still had all three timeouts in the two minute drill. There wasn’t anything dictating that trying to force the deep ball was the right decision. The Surprising ConclusionBy now you are probably thinking that I don’t want Webb.I will be honest. Based on what I have seen, I think it is unlikely Webb will even amount to a decent NFL backup. I would say he is a pile of raw physical tools with very few of the necessarily skills to succeed at the quarterback position in the league developed. He also hasn’t shown much growth between last season and now, which is how you go from third round pick to practice squad so quickly. But that doesn’t mean I am against the addition of Webb to the practice squad at all. Webb might be a pile of raw physical tools, but a practice squad spot is the right investment for players of that profile. The purpose of the practice squad is to try and develop players with those raw tools, understanding it is probably a long-shot in most situations. It is a terrible idea to invest an early round Draft pick in a player like this the way the Giants did (or the way the Jets did with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg). Even though the Jets are paying Webb more than your typical practice squader, they have nothing to lose with this addition. They can walk away easily if Webb does not pan out. If he beats the odds andshows a surprising ability to develop, they could end up with a backup quarterback. I don’t need to explain how valuable that would be.It just should be noted that “project practice squader” is a more apt description for Webb at this point than “third round prospect.” NEW YORK (AP) — Todd Bowles is concerned about only one thing regarding his future with the New York Jets: the team's next opponent.Despite all the rumors and expectations that the game Sunday at New England will be his last as coach of the franchise, Bowles refuses to publicly fuel any of the speculation that has seemed like an inevitable ending for weeks."I do not talk about my job," Bowles said during a conference call Monday. Plenty of other people do that for him, of course, with many fans and media already preparing for a coaching search and throwing out potential replacements for Bowles. Pro Football Talk reported Sunday night Chuma Edoga Jersey Draft , citing an anonymous source, that the Jets plan to pursue Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Bowles said he had no response to the report, but the team issued a statement from acting chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson denying it."Todd Bowles is our head coach," Johnson said in the statement. "There is no truth to the report of our interest in Jim Harbaugh."That, of course, doesn't mean Bowles will, in fact, remain the coach moving forward. The Jets also might know the reality is Harbaugh has made it clear he intends to remain with the Wolverines.Harbaugh's brother John, another name mentioned in speculation and rumors, will also not be on New York's list after Baltimore announced last week it will sign him to a contract extension.Former Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy has been a much-discussed option on sports radio and social media, and there will be plenty more names to consider over the next several days.Bowles remaining with the Jets, however, does not seem likely. He is about to finish his fourth season — all without a playoff appearance — and has a 24-39 overall record, including a 44-38 overtime loss to the Packers on Sunday."Personally Chuma Edoga NFL Jersey , I do not speak about my next job," Bowles said. "I worry about tomorrow and when Christmas comes, and I worry about New England on Sunday and I go from there."That's not just lip service from Bowles, who has always been reserved about his private life and his job status since being hired by the Jets in 2015 to replace the fired Rex Ryan. Bowles has insisted on keeping the focus on his players, and not letting the outside chatter affect anyone inside his locker room."That's my only job," the 55-year-old Bowles told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "Nothing else matters. They're younger and they haven't been through anything like this, so it's up to me to make sure we approach it the right way and learn the things we need to learn, and it gets navigated the right way, and that's my only job."There's nothing else to really lose sleep over."To a man, the players have said Bowles has not strayed from that approach. They have praised his ability, despite all the swirling speculation, to not let any of it affect his preparation."I can say that our minds and our focus is on the Patriots coming up this week," left tackle Kelvin Beachum said. "We can't worry about things going on outside our building. I think more guys are focused on making sure that they're spending time with their families for Christmas. We don't have time to really look at what the media has to say about what's going on."At the end of the day, it's about this organization Chuma Edoga NFL Draft , about these players in this building."When asked what Bowles has to say about it, Beachum said the coach has said nothing regarding his future."He's got us focused on the Patriots," Beachum said. "That's not something that is on top of mind right now. What's on top of mind is finding a way to close out games. We'll handle the rest when the season is over."NOTES: After blasting officials for calling so many penalties on his team, included 16 accepted for a franchise-record 172 yards, Bowles said he had nothing more to add. "I said what I said, I meant everything I said," Bowles said. "I'm done with it." … Bowles said WR Jermaine Kearse injured an Achilles tendon and was going for X-rays. He had four catches for 55 yards before leaving against Green Bay. … WR Quincy Enunwa appears likely to end the season having missed the final three games with an ankle injury. When asked about Enunwa's chances of playing at New England, Bowles said: "Slim. I haven't talked to him yet, but I would say slim." … Beachum and his family were treating people to lunch in his hometown of Mexia, Texas, to celebrate Christmas. Although Beachum can't join them, he invited residents to stop by a local chicken and catfish eatery for a meal "to show holiday love to my hometown."

Womens Adam Butler Jersey , but he wasn’t wearing a walking boot on his injured right foot either. And that has him leaving the door open for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, even if the Jets might prefer to take a more cautious approach.“I think the idea of going up against him and the Patriots, coach Belichick and all those guys, it’s a cool thing, especially with me growing up in the era where they really controlled the whole NFL, for the most part,” Darnold said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “It would be really cool if I have the opportunity.”Darnold said he had started jogging, and was encouraged about his condition.“It feels good. It feels great,” Darnold said. “Nothing for me to complain about. No pain, either. . . . The foot is really good. I feel really good. Like I said last week, I’m just following protocol right now.”Coach Todd Bowles deployed the rare double-obfuscation when asked about Darnold’s status, referring to him as “day-to-day, week-to-week.” Until they practice Wednesday, it’s hard to tell which direction that cryptic diagnosis is pointing for the rookie quarterback, especially with the Jets at 3-7 and losers of four straight.Things weren’t great with him in there, as Darnold threw seven interceptions in his previous three games. But they were worse last week http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-mike-gillislee-jersey , with backup Josh McCown throwing two picks and gaining just 135 yards in an embarrassing loss to the Bills. Wait, what?"In 2019, the New England Patriots offense scored the sixth most points in the NFL: not counting defensive or special teams scores, the unit averaged 25.5 points per game over the regular season (a number that jumped to 30.3 in the playoffs). Despite some inconsistency along the way, the unit was still among the best and most balanced in all of football. Since leading the club to the Super Bowl, however, it lost some key characters. The biggest name on the list of Patriots offseason departures is undoubtably Rob Gronkowski, who decided to retire in March. Furthermore, starting left tackle Trent Brown and wide receivers Chris Hogan and Cordarrelle Patterson left in free agency. Blocking tight end Dwayne Allen was cut. While New England did add some outside reinforcements through the draft and free agency, projecting the unit entering 2019 is no easy thing to do.One thing seems like a foregone conclusion, though: it will be among the better groups in the NFL yet again based on its track record, still-existing quality and depth at multiple positions, and because two of its main men are still in place in quarterback Tom Brady and coordinator Josh McDaniels. And yet, not all are apparently convinced that New England will reach its past levels of offensive production in a post-Gronkowski era.Take NFL.com’s Chris Wesseling, who recently published his list of the ten best offenses in the league. The world champions are its biggest omission, based on the personnel turnover it saw since the final whistle was blown in the NFL’s title game. Despite that, an argument can still be made to include the Patriots’ unit ahead of lower-ranked ones on the list like the Green Bay Packers’ or the Pittsburgh Steelers’. And make it we will.Using Wesseling’s methodology James Develin Jersey , the unit gets broken down in position groups and subsequently graded. The top offense on his list — the New Orleans Saints’ — earns an A- for its backfield as well as B+ grades at quarterback, receiving corps, and offensive line. For comparison, the tenth ranked Packers were handed an A at quarterback, a B+ at offensive line, a B at receiving corps, and a B- for the backfield. While subjective, of course, the Patriots could be broken down as follows:Quarterback: ABackfield: A-Receiving corps: C-Offensive line: B+The one grade that jumps off the page, and a group that is likely the reason why Wesseling left New England off his top-10 list altogether, is the receiving corps: when Gronkowski announced his retirement, the team lost its top pass-catching threat — one that cannot be replaced by just one player. That being said, there is still some talent on a unit that is currently being led by reigning Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman.First-round pick N’Keal Harry is a physical, high-upside addition possibly able to contribute from day one. Phillip Dorsett has experience in the system as a rotational number three receiver. And free agency signing Demaryius Thomas should still have at least one productive season in him as well. The biggest hole is at tight end, where Matt LaCosse, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and recently added Benjamin Watson are contenders for the top receiving role — not exactly an awe-inspiring trio, though.Nevertheless Womens LaAdrian Waddle Jersey , the group does have sufficient depth across the board and could improve its grade significantly if Harry (or another offseason acquisition) integrates well and quickly into the unit, and/or Josh Gordon returns from his indefinite suspension. The upside is certainly there, especially considering that Josh McDaniels is among the best offensive coordinators in the game at putting his players in a position to succeed. What helps him do that is the strength of the other units: Tom Brady and his backups are as good a quarterback group as you’ll find in the NFL, the backfield features an intriguing mix of running and pass-catching ability, and the offensive line projects to be among the league’s better ones yet again despite some current questions at the left tackle spot — call it the Dante Scarnecchia effect. The coaching staff in general, while not part of Wesseling’s breakdown, cannot be left out of the equation either. Even though it also saw some departures over the last few months, New England still has the league’s premier offensive staff with McDaniels, Scarnecchia and running backs coach Ivan Fears all atop their profession. Add the fact that Bill Belichick and Ernie Adams are also involved, and you’ll get a group that knows how to take the talent it has and mold it into a productive unit. The Patriots have done just that ever since the emergency of Tom Brady in the early 2000s — and it would, frankly, be an enormous surprise if they failed to do the same in 2019. What would not be surprising, however, is if some of those grades looked markedly better late during the year, and if New England’s offense once again was among the best in the league.

The Giants haven’t made anything official

Kareem Martin Jerseys 2019 , but it seems safety Landon Collins‘ season is over due to a shoulder injury.Head coach Pat Shurmur said on Wednesday that Collins will most likely have surgery while Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that the decision to put him on injured reserve has already been made. That surgery would lead to an extended recovery period for Collins and the timing isn’t great because he’s set for free agency this offseason.Collins didn’t let that stop him from returning to last Sunday’s game against the Bears after he was injured and his teammates said they appreciate that Collins did that. Safety Michael Thomas said Collins is always “going to leave it all out there on the field” and cornerback Janoris Jenkins said that business never got in the way of football.“It just showed me that he loves football,” Jenkins said, via the . “He wanted to be here, he was ready to play. … You always appreciate guys coming back, knowing that it鈥檚 their contract year. He just came out and played.”The Giants can use the franchise or transition tag to increase their chances of holding onto Collins in the event they want him back and can’t work out an extension. If they don’t go either of those routes, Collins will be free to talk to every other team in the league come March 11. Good morning, everyone! We’re in to the final quarter of the 2018 regular season and while the New York Giants are still mathematically alive in the playoff hunt Youth Kyle Lauletta Jerseys , their odds of playing after Week 17 are slim and trending towards “none.”Their odds of landing one of the first 10 selections, however, are still strong. That means that it is much more “draft season” for Giants fans than “stretch run” season. And as it so happens, ESPN’s Todd McShay has released his first mock draft in advance of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since it is Insider content, we’ll bring you the Giants’ pick:Raptor’s Thoughts: First off, McShay does have Justin Herbert in his mock, going seventh overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moving on Kyle Lauletta Jerseys Stitched , I am of two minds about this pick. On one hand, Haskins has played well this season. He is the rare Urban Meyer QB who is primarily a pocket passer (he definitely isn’t a statue, though), and he has largely been efficient running Ohio State’s offense. Over the last quarter, or so, of the college season he was legitimately excellent. Haskins has enough mobility to navigate the pocket and extend plays, with all the arm strength you could ask for to challenge the Meadowlands’ winds. His decision making has been sound and he has solid accuracy to all levels of the field. Haskins has just about everything you could want from a quarterback prospect from a tools perspective. But on the other hand Corey Ballentine Jersey Boys , he is a red-shirt sophomore and while he has had a season that put him in the Heisman conversation ... that’s the extent of his resume. For myself, personally, quarterback the one position where I always weigh age and being an upper-classman as being marks in their favor. Normally they’re neutral at best, and for players premier positions with an athletic premium, younger is usually better. But at quarterback, having those extra two or three years of experience and mental maturity (literally, the brain does not stop maturing until after the usual age of college graduation) White Cody Latimer Jerseys , are a massive positive for me. Sure, getting him as a red-shirt sophomore means that the Giants will have him in-house and learning behind Eli Manning (with whom he already has a relationship from the Manning Passing Academy). But that isn’t the same as playing games, seeing defenses first hand, and making decisions in the moment. And then on the third hand (okay, my name isn’t Zaphod, so we’ll just juggle ideas here) having a young quarterback on a rookie deal is an incredible advantage for the team. Even with the salary cap pushing toward $200 million in the coming years, the Giants will need the extra cap flexibility that having a QB on a rookie deal provides as they work to re-sign players like Sterling Shepard Youth Evan Engram Jerseys , Dalvin Tomlinson, Saquon Barkley, and potentially Sam Beal. So then, what do you think of selecting Dwayne Haskins if he does indeed declare for the draft and falls to the Giants’ pick?

ORCHARD PARK White Josh Allen Jerseys , N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed quarterback Matt Barkley to a two-year contract extension, securing what’s been an unsettled backup spot behind rookie Josh Allen. The signing announced Friday is a reflection of how Barkley performed in winning his one start this season and his role in helping mentor Allen. Coach Sean McDermott this week lauded Barkley for his support of Allen. On the field, Barkley went 15 of 25 for 232 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-10 win over the New York Jets on Nov. 11. Barkley was Buffalo’s third starter in three consecutive games, with Allen missing four games with a sprained right throwing elbow.Buffalo had signed Barkley only 10 days earlier after veteran backup Derek Anderson sustained a concussion. The 28-year-old is completing his sixth NFL season since Philadelphia drafted him in the fourth round in 2013 draft out of Southern California.Barkley has a 2-5 career record. He spent this offseason with Cincinnati before being cut by the Bengals in September after hurting his knee in a preseason game. ORCHARD PARK Josh Allen Jerseys 2019 , N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed seven of their eight draft picks, including first-round selection Ed Oliver, while veteran quarterback Derek Anderson is retiring after 14 seasons. The Bills announced the signings and Anderson informed the NFL of his retirement on Thursday, a day before opening their rookie minicamp.Anderson’s decision to retire comes as a surprise White Tremaine Edmunds Jerseys , after the 35-year-old signed a one-year contract a day after Buffalo closed its season. The Bills lured him out of semi-retirement in October to serve as an experienced backup to then-rookie Josh Allen.Anderson started two games in place of an injured Allen before being sidelined with a concussion. This season, he was projected to be Buffalo’s third-string quarterback, behind Matt Barkley, and serve as Allen’s mentor. The Bills added a quarterback Thursday by signing Tyree Jackson Tremaine Edmunds Jerseys 2019 , an undrafted free agent out of the University at Buffalo.Oliver is a defensive tackle out of Houston, and drafted ninth overall two weeks ago.Buffalo also signed second-round pick, offensive tackle Cody Ford, as well as running back Devin Singletary Color Rush Thomas Sweeney Jersey , the first of the team’s two third-round picks. Also signing their rookie contracts were linebacker Vosean Joseph, safety JaQuan Johnson, defensive end Darryl Johnson and tight end Tommy Sweeney, who were selected in the final three rounds. The Bills’ lone unsigned draft pick is tight end Dawson Knox. Buffalo traded both of its fourth-round picks to move up in the draft order to choose Knox in the third round. The Bills also announced signing seven other undrafted rookies Youth Thomas Sweeney Jersey , including Buffalo cornerback Cam Lewis. Also signed were linebackers Tyrel Dodson (Texas A&M) and Juwan Foggie (Charlotte), receivers David Sills (West Virginia) and Nick Easley (Iowa), Northwestern offensive lineman Blake Hance and Illinois kicker Chase McLaughlin.

shy about looking toward the offseason and the opportunity the team will have to improve by using their copious cap space to bring new players to the team. It’s not something Maccagnan is totally unfamiliar with Buster Skrine Jerseys 2019 , however. The Jets threw some money around earlier this year and brought in several free agents, including cornerback Trumaine Johnson.Johnson signed a five-year deal with $34 million in guaranteed money that is worth up to $72.5 million overall, but the team hasn’t seen much return on investment. He’s missed five games due to injury and hasn’t played all that well when he’s in the lineup.Johnson calls his play “up and down,” but said the downs have nothing to do with pressure to live up to the contract.“Not at all,” Johnson said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “Not at all, to be honest with you. I came in here White Brian Winters Jerseys , my whole main focus was to flip this organization around and start winning games. Our goal was to go to the playoffs. Like I said, I’ve always been about winning where I’m at. But as far as pressure … no. I love the game. And I like going out there and competing no matter what’s going on.”The Jets may be changing coaches this offseason and they’ll definitely bring in new players, but Johnson’s contract means he won’t be going anywhere so his play will be part of a long list of things that the Jets will hope is better come the new year. Bringing your daily links to the NFL’s New York Jets"Good morning, Gang Green Nation! I hope everyone is having a great start to their day. Apparently the Jets new uniform leaked yesterday, although Jamal Adams has claimed that the leaks were not in fact the new uniforms of the team. In the digital age I have learned not to get excited about anything that is ‘leaked’ until the sole proprietor confirms as much. ‘Fake news’ has been prevalent throughout history, but in this era where the attention span of the average person has gone down ten-fold, it seems this has become more of the norm than not. Regardless Brian Winters Jerseys 2019 , I wasn’t much of a fan of the current uniforms anyway so a change in nearly any acceptable direction would’ve satisfied me. In other team news, the Jets offseason workout program is to start on Monday and Sam Darnold has been raving about newly acquired Le’Veon Bell. I don’t blame him in the slightest. Having Bell in the backfield should ease the pressure on Sam’s shoulders and hopefully become the safety valve we all expect him to be.
No matter how dominant Chicago Bears star pass rusher

Khalil Mack is White Marcus Cannon Jerseys , New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick wanted to make one thing clear. He's no L.T."Wait a minute, we're talking about Lawrence Taylor now," Belichick said Wednesday. "Yeah, I'm not putting anybody in Lawrence Taylor's class. So, you can put everybody down below that. With a lot of respect to a lot of good players now, but we're talking about Lawrence Taylor."The Patriots visit the Bears this week and that means Belichick will get an up-close look at one of the game's top outside linebackers Marcus Cannon Jerseys 2019 , assuming Mack is ready to play after injuring his ankle last week.Belichick knows the Patriots could have their hands full with a two-time All-Pro and havoc-wreaking edge rusher who has energized a struggling franchise. He's just not ready to place Mack — or anyone else — on Taylor's level."He's already had a huge impact on the Bears' defense in the first five games," said Belichick who was Taylor's position coach and then defensive coordinator with the New York Giants."So, I'm not taking anything away from him. You're talking about Lawrence Taylor, you're talking about probably the greatest defensive player in the history of the game. So, I think it's a little early. I mean, look White Brandon Bolden Jerseys , I wouldn't put anybody in Lawrence Taylor's category. Not that I've seen. And I've seen a lot of great players."Whether Mack will play this week is up in the air after he was injured in an overtime loss at Miami. He did not practice Wednesday, and coach Matt Nagy said he is day to day.Mack was hurt early in the game against the Dolphins and his 2018 streak of at least one sack and one forced fumble in each game ended. Playing without him would be a huge blow, particularly with Tom Brady and the Patriots visiting on Sunday."We're just going to continue to keep an eye on it and make sure whatever we do, we're more cautious than anything," Nagy said. "I believe in that and I think it's important to go that route."Mack has not missed a game since Oakland drafted him with the No. 5 overall pick in 2014. Chicago acquired him from the Raiders just before the start of the season, after he held out the entire offseason and preseason trying to secure a long-term deal rather than play under the final season of his rookie contract. Mack and the Bears then agreed to a six-year Brandon Bolden Jerseys 2019 , $141 million extension that guarantees $90 million. The trade for Mack has boosted a franchise with four straight last-place finishes in the NFC North. Despite the loss at Miami, the Bears (3-2) remain in sole possession of the division lead for the first time since late in the 2013 season. But the defense wasn't the same against the Dolphins with Mack at less than 100 percent. The pass rush never got to Miami quarterback Brock Osweiler, and the Bears' league-best run defense was trampled by 35-year-old running back Frank Gore for 101 of Miami's 161 yards rushing.Missed tackles on Albert Wilson contributed to two shorter passes going for long touchdowns to cap off a rough game in the heat for the Bears."I guess it happens every once in a while, not maybe to that extent, to have that much of an impact on a game," said cornerback Kyle Fuller White Ryan Allen Jerseys , who had two interceptions. "But it's one of those things we just learn from it and move forward."NOTES: CB Prince Amukamara (hamstring), WR Allen Robinson (groin) and LG Eric Kush (neck) were limited in practice. DB Marcus Cooper (hamstring) did not participate.AP Sports Writer Kyle Hightower contributed to this report. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. One of the team’s biggest holes going into the offseason was at the tight-end position. Now with the bulk of free agency and the NFL Draft in the rear-view mirror, the Bills have six tight ends under contract. As a result of Buffalo signing Lee Smith and Moral Stephens and cutting offensive tackle turned tight end Jake Fisher before training camp, there appears to be a short leash regarding expectations for the position. Here are each tight end’s chances at making it out of Bills’ training camp with a spot on the final 53-man roster.Lee SmithChance to make final roster: Very, very, very highThe Bills signed TE Lee Smith to a three-year deal on Monday. His chances to make the final roster are as close to 100 percent as possible. Not only is he a former Buffalo Bill with great locker room chemistry and play to back it up, but his $9 million contract has guaranteed money in the second year. If the Bills did not see him as a future piece, that guaranteed money would not exist. He will be in Buffalo blue at the beginning of the season.Tyler KroftChance to make final roster: Very LeSean McCoy Jerseys 2019 , very highJust like Smith, TE Tyler Kroft is on a three-year deal. The big difference is Kroft’s contract is worth double at $18 million, suggesting he’s in Buffalo’s future plans. Kroft has the potential to be the starting tight end at the beginning of the season in the Meadowlands, but it remains to be seen if he will stay in the starting 11 given his blocking-tight-end status. Expect him to make the final roster.Dawson KnoxChance to make final roster: Very highMoving from free agents to rookies, TE Dawson Knox is a solid investment for the Bills who cost them their two fourth-round picks in the draft. As a third-round pick, it would not make sense for Buffalo to cut him before he gets his first taste of the regular season. Knox is a tight end who thrives in the passing game and could develop alongside quarterback Josh Allen perfectly. If anything is close to being certain at tight end, it is that Smith, Kroft White Kyle Williams Jerseys , and Knox will all make the roster and Knox will evolve as the primary receiving threat of those three.Tommy SweeneyChance to make final roster: NeutralThis is where the Bills start to make the tough decisions. Three tight ends on a 53-man roster is the norm, but Tommy Sweeney has a good chance to be the fourth. Despite being the Bills’ seventh-round pick, he checks a lot of boxes for what Buffalo looks for in process players. The Boston College product made first-team All-ACC in his senior season for a team that preferred to run the ball. Sweeney also played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, a pattern for the Sean McDermott Buffalo Bills. Sweeney has the talent, but it depends on if the Bills choose youth and process over experience.Jason CroomChance to make final roster: SlimTE Jason Croom is a two-year veteran who played in Buffalo last season. Croom emerged as the Bills’ top tight end after starter Charles Clay struggled with injury, finishing fourth on the team in receiving yards with 259 and one touchdown. Despite last year’s performance, the slew of tight-end signings and draft picks indicate Buffalo may prefer going into the 2019 campaign without a single returning tight end from 2018. Croom will likely not make the final roster in favor of Sweeney or a three-tight end set, but there is still a chance if he can prove at training camp that his past-year experience outweighs the potential of the other rookie tight ends.Moral StephensChance to make final roster: Very SlimAs an undrafted free agent Kyle Williams Jerseys 2019 , former Florida TE Moral Stephens signed with Buffalo following the team’s rookie minicamp. Despite the good impression and the Bills rewarding him with a contact, Stephens has a very long, uphill battle if he wants to make the 53-man roster. With no guaranteed money in multiple years, expectations of a higher draft pick, or past experience in Buffalo, Stephens will have to impress immediately at St. John Fisher College to make it past the first couple rounds of cuts over the summer.Jake FisherChance to make final roster: zeroFisher was released by the Bills on Monday following the signing of Smith, in case you were wondering.

When the Bills play the Tennessee Titans

White Chris Ivory Jerseys , it will be a great place for #BillsMafia to visit"The Buffalo Bills have a fairly tame schedule when it comes to travel in 2019. Of the team’s eight road games, two are played in the same stadium, albeit against different opponents on consecutive weeks, and only two (a divisional tilt against the Miami Dolphins and a Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Dallas Cowboys) includes travel of over 1,000 miles. With regard to cities to visit, Bills fans have few solid options in terms of great vacation spots. The Bills travel to face the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Detroit Lions, all cities that are fairly close to Buffalo (and aren’t exactly known for great weather). Buffalo plays two games in the great suburb of East Rutherford, New Jersey, which may be only nine miles away from New York City, but isn’t the best game to travel to for Bills fans. The best option for Bills fans this Fall? Nashville, Tennessee, home of the Tennessee Titans. The Bills travel to the Titans in Week 5, meaning the two teams will play on the same weekend that they did last year. Buffalo won that game at home 13-12 thanks to a Stephen Hauschka field goal as time expired. This time Chris Ivory Jerseys 2019 , the Bills will make the nearly 700-mile trek down south to face Tennessee. The last time the Bills played at Nissan Stadium, the game was also decided by one point—as the Bills defeated the Titans 14-13. With plenty to do right across the Cumberland River, the Stadium is located in a perfect spot. With the average temperature in October hovering around 72 degrees, it’s the ideal place for a weekend filled with Buffalo victories and great music. While some may see AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, as the ideal road game for travel this season, the fact that the Bills travel to Dallas on Thanksgiving makes things a bit more complicated. Fans may be hesitant to leave family and traditions behind for the experience of one of America’s most impressive stadiums. With so many road games within driving distance, those games may offer more convenience for fans at the expense of a great overall experience.Given the time of year for both games, I’m picking Nashville hot chicken over Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. Whether you agree or disagree, let us know in the comments the road games, if any, you plan on attending!2019 Buffalo Bills scheduleWeekDateTime (Eastern)OpponentNotesWeekDateTime (Eastern)OpponentNotes This Seminole might be just who the Bills want."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections NewsNotesOpinionAnalysisDiscussionPodcastNFL DraftSalary CapNFL DraftAnalysisScouting ReportsBrian Burns film analysis: Bills defense could be jump-started by creative edge rusherNew,71commentsThis Seminole might be just who the Bills want.EDTShareTweetShareShareBrian Burns film analysis: Bills defense could be jump-started by creative edge rusherMelina Myers-USA TODAY SportsThe 2018 Buffalo Bills only saw a combined 15 sacks between Jerry Hughes, Shaq Lawson, Trent Murphy White Jeremy Kerley Jerseys , and Eddie Yarbrough. Contractually, the entire unit could be overhauled by 2020. Could their first-round draft pick be used to get a head start? Today we’re going to profile Florida State’s Brian Burns, one of the marquee edge rushers in this year’s rookie class. Let’s dive in.The immediate impression of Burns is how freakishly athletic he is. His first step is excellent, and the second and third steps are even better. He can turn on a dime, and stop-start with only a step or two to reset his momentum. Burns’s top-end speed is fast enough that he could be trusted to drop into coverage and still finish with a tackle. That excellent athleticism is paired with a long, 6’5” frame with a nearly 84” wingspan. He uses that length to swat down passes and swipe at quarterbacks’ arms. In three seasons at FSU, Burns had seven passes defended and seven forced fumbles.Burns seemingly always has a pass-rushing plan when he goes to work. With fast, active arms, he can keep linemen out of his chest and put them on the defensive. Burns has an absolute bevy of pass-rushing moves. He’s creative, varied, and willing to pull them out multiple times per game. I think his go-to is the spin move, but he has chops, rips, swipes, and counter moves. Below I’ve clipped a few examples.Burns plays with his hair on fire Jeremy Kerley Jerseys 2019 , going hard on every snap. In pursuit, he’ll chase a player down the sidelines if necessary. He’s also a feisty competitor. I always saw him get in the last shove after the play was over, and he would take opportunities to whoop with his teammates or yap at an opponent after a big play.Though he played at roughly 235 pounds, Burns actually has a decently stout anchor in his lower body. However, he’s never going to be a dominant edge setter. He’s a bit too lithe to control a gap against strong linemen, and he’s often torqued to the side on running plays. Whether this is a physical limitation or an issue with Burns taking bad angles to set the edge, I’m not sure. Either way, it’s his main drawback.Edge rusher may be the premier position group from this NFL Draft class, at least in the first round. Burns arguably belongs in the top tier with Nick Bosa and Josh Allen. He has a rare combination of athletic ability and size, and he merges that with a combination of motor and creativity that help him reach his potential. Burns has the upside of a top-ten NFL pass rusher, and that could give the Bills an elite defensive unit moving forward.

Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is out against the Arizona Cardinals

because of a knee injury.Gurley did not practice on Thursday Jacob Bailey Jersey Draft , but said he expected to play in Sunday’s game despite knee inflammation that flared up last week against Philadelphia.Gurley leads the NFL with 21 combined rushing and receiving touchdowns for the Rams (11-3), who have already clinched the NFC West.Los Angeles coach Sean McVay said earlier this week that he would consider resting Gurley for the playoffs, even with the Rams on a two-game losing streak and trying to secure a first-round bye.Gurley is the NFL’s second-leading rusher with 1,251 yards. The Saints’ Austin Carr is the odd man out in New Orleans’ receiver group after Ted Ginn returned this week from an arthroscopic knee procedure that kept him out injured more than half the season. Left tackle Terron Armstead also makes a timely return to the lineup from his chest injury while fellow tackle Jermon Bushrod sits out with a sore hamstring. For Pittsburgh, receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is active after being listed as questionable because of a sore groin that limited him in practice this week. Here’s the full list of inactives for Sunday’s games:Why can’t the Patriots draft picks just stay healthy? UPDATE: I’m bumping this back up now that Ja’Whaun Bentley is on the injured reserve. Of the Patriots nine draft picks in 2018, six are on the injured reserve (Isaiah Wynn, Duke Dawson, Bentley, Christian Sam, Braxton Berrios, Ryan Izzo). One is on the practice squad (Danny Etling). That leaves Sony Michel (knee) and Keion Crossen (hamstring) as the two remaining on the active roster Jacob Bailey NFL Jersey , and they’ve been dealing with injuries of their own. Both of the New England Patriots first round selections in this most recent are injured, with tackle Isaiah Wynn out for the year with a torn Achilles and running back Sony Michel battling a knee injury. These injuries could be chalked up to bad luck, but it follows a stretch of bad injuries by Patriots draft picks- and some that the Patriots could have foreseen.Michel, for instance, battled a series of injuries in college that raised medical flags for teams and his knees were known as a potential issue. The Patriots have often drafted players with an injury history because that’s generally the only way a blue chip player can fall to them in the draft, and sometimes it works. That’s how they’ve ended up with Rob Gronkowski (back) and Sebastian Vollmer (back) and Dont’a Hightower (knee) and Chandler Jones (knee/leg), although all battled series of injuries while with the Patriots. When those players are healthy, they’re great. But it’s hard to rely on their availability on a year-to-year basis. And when they aren’t ever available, you have a Ras-I Dowling (lower body) or a Dominique Easley (knees) and they’re considered among the worst draft selections in franchise history. Then there are other good players that slid into the middle rounds because of their injuries. They’re expected to be solid players if they’re healthy and if they’re available in the third, fourth, or fifth rounds Jacob Bailey NFL Draft , then even a mediocre starter is considered exceeding draft expectations.Again, some of these selections work out in the long run, like Marcus Cannon (cancer), or as one-season-wonders like Bryan Stork (concussions) and Malcolm Mitchell (knees). And then others fail to pan out, like Brandon Tate (ACL) and Tre Jackson (knee). The jury remains out on Vincent Valentine (ankle), Deatrich Wise (hand/shoulder), Ja’Whaun Bentley (ACL), and Michel (knees) and this doesn’t include players that suffered injuries once they reached the NFL, like Trey Flowers, Cyrus Jones, Derek Rivers Jacob Bailey Buffalo Bills Jersey , Antonio Garcia, and now Wynn. All of these players had injury histories as they entered the draft that allowed them to fall into the Patriots’ draft range, so Bill Belichick and company were clearly weighing the risk versus the reward. If we evaluate the rewards, do Vollmer, Gronkowski, Cannon, Jones, and Hightower, along with single-seasons of Mitchell and Stork outweigh the misses with Easley, Dowling, Tate Color Rush Jacob Bailey Jersey , and Jackson?I’d argue yes because while the Dowling and Easley misses were big and the Patriots really should evaluate their injury evaluation processes because there’s always room for improvement, Vollmer, Gronkowski, Cannon, Jones, and Hightower were integral to bringing two Super Bowl titles and years of contention to New England. And most of the misses came in the third or fourth rounds where getting a season or two of good play is the average expectation, so it’s worth taking a home run when you could just as easily add a player on the veteran minimum to hedge your bet. In other words, the Patriots are one of a few teams that bolsters the “middle class” of their roster and always have a cheap veteran that can play at the replacement level. This allows the team to take risks in the middle rounds and cut ties quickly if the picks don’t work- there will always be someone good enough as back-up.But it’s really unfortunate to see Wynn suffer a season-ending injury and the team’s track record of health over the past five years of draft picks is abysmal. Just 9 of their 22 players selected in the first four rounds, have stayed healthy-ish and that’s including rookie Duke Dawson and back-of-the-roster players like Jordan Richards and Geneo Grissom.Even the quarterbacks like Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and Jacoby Brissett (thumb) were hurt enough to miss extended time. It’s hard for the Patriots to avoid some of these injuries and I’m certainly not trying to blame the team for any of them. But it’s totally valid for fans to feel like every other Patriots draft pick ends up on the injured reserve- because literally half of their top draft picks do end up on the reserves.

I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. For some reason people are already coming out with 2020 Mock Drafts, as if that’s not a complete waste of time. Personally, I think most mocks up until the final month or so are complete hogwash; and even then the draft is a total crapshoot. New addition Valentine Holmes talks about the transition from rugby to American football. I’m not saying that he won’t make the team, but most rugby guys who aren’t kickers tend to wash out of the league very quickly. Best of luck to him and maybe he will be an exception from the norm. There’s a lot of talk about veterans who may be on the roster bubble, but in all honesty the entire team with a handful of exceptions should not feel safe. You don’t consistently have less than 6 wins per season if the team is full of studs, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to save face. We continue today with a look at former Patriots linebacker Harvey Langi. The 26-year old Langi is listed at 6’2” and 251 pounds and was undrafted out of BYU in 2017. New England signed him as an undrafted free agent and he made their roster as a rookie. However, he only played in one game and then was released in final cuts last season. The Jets signed him to their practice squad in October and to a futures deal after the season.BackgroundLangi was a running back in high school and was initially recruited to Utah to play that position. He rushed 13 times for 70 yards off the bench in his freshman year but then went on a two-year mission. When he returned to Utah in 2013, he had bulked up to 250 and they decided to convert him to defensive end, but he opted to transfer to BYU and began playing for them in 2014.In his first year, Langi didn’t play much off the bench, as he saw action both on the edge and as an off-ball linebacker. However, in 2015, he racked up career highs in tackles (66), tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (4.5). He also had the only two interceptions of his college career. As a senior, Langi played more on the edge and his production fell as a result even though he played more games. He did, however, register a career-best in passes defensed and the first forced fumble of his college career.Langi also played some running back in his last two seasons, racking up 102 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.Having attended the Senior Bowl and scouting combine, Langi was projected by some sources as a possible mid-round pick but ultimately was not selected in the 2017 draft. However, he apparently received offers from 12 teams to sign as an undrafted free agent but ultimately opted to sign for New England, who gave him the biggest contract of any undrafted free agent that year.Langi started the first two preseason games and was productive, earning his spot on the regular season roster. However, he was only active in one of the first five games and then suffered a season-ending back injury in a car accident. In 2018, Langi was injured in preseason, leading to him being released in final cuts by New England. The Jets signed him to their practice squad in October, but he was placed on the practice squad injured list less than three weeks later. They opted to sign him to a futures deal after the season. Now let’s take a look at what Langi brings to the table, divided into categories.Measurables/AthleticismLangi has good size for an off-ball linebacker but may be slightly undersized to play on the edge.At the combine he wasn’t able to participate in all of the events, but he ran a solid 4.66 in the 40 at his pro day. His three cone and bench press were both above average but his short shuttle Womens Chuma Edoga Jersey , vertical and broad jump were underwhelming.Langi actually worked with the defensive end group at the combine, so his shuttle numbers were among the best at his position, but they were a lot less impressive when compared with other linebackers.UsageScouting reports when Langi was due to be drafted suggested that he’d been miscast by being put out on the edge and that his best pro potential would be in an off-the-ball role. However, New England said they were looking at him in multiple positions and ended up mostly using him as an edge defender, albeit mostly standing up.As noted, Langi also has some previous experience as a running back.Run defenseLangi works hard in the running game, moves well laterally and pursues across the field. At times, he looks pretty good setting the edge on stretch plays and outside runs:However, he was also overpowered at the point of attack quite a lot. This tended to be because he plays with a narrow base moreso than pad level issues. Also, while he flashes the ability to work off a block, he often gave ground when doing so. Langi also lacked awareness and anticipation when players would block down on him from the side and ended up on the floor quite a lot, as on this play:A further concern when Langi was entering the league was that he would need to play with more gap discipline.Pass rushLangi was relatively productive in college, whether as a blitzing off-ball linebacker or coming off the edge, although he only had two sacks in his senior year in which he was mostly playing on the edge.In preseason action, Langi did create some pressure, but this tended to be more from effort rather than beating his man cleanly with good technique. A lot of the time, his first move would be easily repelled and he didn’t display a natural array of counter moves. Here was about the best rep he had during preseason, showing some ability to go from speed-to-power and then back again:The rest of the pressure he generated tended to be late in the play, although he did catch Breno Giacomini napping once on a hesitation move.Coverage skillsLangi’s experience as an off-ball linebacker serve him well when he’s required to drop into coverage from the edge, although he hasn’t been required to do that very often with New England. Here’s one play where he did, making the correct pick-up in zone coverage:In college, Langi intercepted two passes and batted two down at the line. He also intercepted a deflected pass on a late two-point conversion in the 2017 Senior Bowl to clinch the win for his team.Special teamsSpecial teams could be a big part of what New England (and now the Jets) saw in Langi. He did a good job in kick coverage in preseason and was also in on a couple of special teams tackles in his only NFL regular season game:Langi has seen time on all of the four main special teams units, also seeing action as a blocker on returns. In college, he also fielded four kickoffs, returning them for 73 yards.TacklingLangi has been a productive tackler who will usually get his man down with good form. However Authentic Chuma Edoga Jersey , he has had some issues with missing tackles over the years, including 12 missed tackles in 2015, his only full season as an off-ball linebacker. He also missed a few tackles with the Patriots:Langi only had one forced fumble in his career but has good range in pursuit out to the sideline.MotorLangi is a hard-working player although it seems like he will often get caught up on a block and struggle to find a way to leverage his way off it.He pursues downhill aggressively though, and constantly plays to the whistle, often diving on piles:In preseason action, Langi played almost 50 snaps in one game, so he has the conditioning to handle a heavy workload.Scheme familiarityWith the Jets switching to a multiple defense that is expected to be built around a 4-3 base, Langi’s best position in the base defense might be as a strong side linebacker. That would make use of his experience on the edge and ability to drop if required. He could also come off the edge in sub-packages though.IntangiblesLangi is said to have had some maturity issues in his past but has been lauded for his hard work and dedication since coming back from his mission in college. He has also done plenty of charitable work in the community. On the field, he is sometimes slow to read and react and can be fooled by misdirection at times. Here was a play where he left a receiver open in the flat:Langi hasn’t had major issues with penalties in his career, although he had five in his senior season at BYU. With New England, he was called for a face mask penalty on a special teams play and illegal use of the hands on a preseason pass rush attempt.InjuriesInjuries are the main thing that have stunted Langi’s growth as a player so far in his pro career. He had a hamstring issue at the combine, a concussion issue at the start of his rookie season and then the back injury after his car accident a few weeks after that. He then missed every preseason game in his second season due to internal lacerations and was taken off the Jets’ practice squad in October with an unspecified injury.ConclusionsNew England was obviously high on Langi considering the contractual lengths they went to in order to secure his services ahead of 11 other teams. However, at the same time, they didn’t have enough patience to stick with him when he struggled to stay on the field in his two camps with them. The acquisition of Langi is somewhat reminiscent of Brandon Copeland, who also seemed to have played his best football as an off-ball linebacker and had been underwhelming since moving to an edge defender role. However, Copeland was one of the surprises of the season as he ended up starting several games and registered five sacks. The idea of an edge defender with the ability to drop and cover obviously appeals to the Jets, as does the fact he’s versatile enough to play a number of roles in an emergency as well as being a potential top special teams contributor. However, if this was something that appealed to the previous regime, that doesn’t mean that Langi has the inside track on a role in Gregg Williams’ defense. Still, if he’s made any kind of impression on Brant Boyer, then perhaps he has a good shot of making the team for his special teams abilities alone.

The Lions announced Thursday night that their former head coach Rick Forzano has died at the age of 90.Forzano became the Lions coach in 1974 and was relieved of his duties four games into the 1976 season with a 15-17 record to show for his time. Forzano’s tenure included the team’s final season at Tiger Stadium and their first year at the Silverdome.“Rick was a wonderful man and we are truly saddened by the news of his passing Womens LaAdrian Waddle Jersey ,” Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford said in a statement. “On behalf of me, my family and the Lions organization, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Forzano family. Our thoughts are with his wife Betty, daughters Stacey and Kristie and his son, Rick Jr.”In addition to bridging two stadiums, Forzano’s tenure is also notable for featuring four future NFL head coaches in assistant positions. He hired Joe Bugel, Raymond Berry and Jerry Glanville in addition to giving Bill Belichick his first full-time NFL coaching job. Forzano worked with Belichick’s father at Navy and hired the Patriots head coach to work with tight ends and on special teams.“When I came here, Rick gave me the opportunity with the tight ends,” Belichick said on a 2017 visit with Forzano taped by NFL Films. “The opportunity to coach a position, that’s a big step for any coach, and that was an opportunity that Rick gave me that I probably wasn’t ready for, but I certainly appreciated the opportunity for it.”Our condolences go out to Forzano’s family and loved ones on their loss. EDTShareTweetShareShareLinking the Patriots’ top draft picks to impending free agents or potential cutsDale Zanine-USA TODAY SportsIf you know the pattern here http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-malcolm-mitchell-jersey , the Patriots draft players who they anticipate can plug future roster holes. Some of those holes also coincide with today’s roster holes, but that’s not their intent here. Bill Belichick is very reluctant to rely on rookies until after they prove it on the field in training camp, practice, and during games. The Patriots addressed their two biggest weaknesses with their top two picks in the draft: getting a guy who can make contested grabs in tight coverage, and a physical cover player for larger receivers and tight ends that have killed the Patriots the past 3-4 seasons. N’Keal Harry: Entire WR corpsHarry is the only receiver with any sort of job security in Foxboro following this season as the entire receiver corps outside of him is headed for unrestricted free agency. Of that group, Julian Edelman is probably the only player who has better than 50/50 odds of returning. Harry brings a different skill set to the receivers already on the roster, although the Patriots have loaded up on larger receivers (Maurice Harris and Demaryius Thomas are both over 6’2”) to fill out the roster depth chart. Joejuan Williams and Ken Webster: Jonathan Jones, Jason McCourty, Stephon Gilmore, Keion CrossenGilmore and J-Mac are locks for the 2019 roster, but their cap situations don’t look too good moving forward. Thanks to converting $8.5M salary to a signing bonus, Gilmore’s cap hit dropped by $5.67M but also opened the door to exploding cap hits of $18.6M and $19.6M over the following two seasons. That makes Gilmore a potential cut or trade candidate next offseason, although doing so with a pre-June 1st designation would generate a $15M+ dead cap hit for 2020. McCourty’s situation is a lot less complicated as the team can decline a $500k option on March 12th of next season. Declining J-the option only creates $1.75M of dead cap space Dwayne Allen Jersey , which would save $4M on the 2020 cap should younger players prove themselves this year. Joejuan Williams should be looked at as a match-up cover corner who plays either on the boundary, and versus big slot receivers and tight-ends. His lack of top-end speed leaves him vulnerable to faster receivers who can separate vertically, but chances are the Patriots would double that type of receiver anyway with aggressive safety help to that side.Ken Webster is more of a last DB on the roster type player who tested well as an athlete who has a bit more size than Keion Crossen, whose career arc looks closer to Nate Ebner than Jonathan Jones at this point. If Webster can show versatility in the secondary plus contribute in kickoff/punt coverage, he’s a more valuable roster piece than Crossen.Chase Winovich: Kyle Van NoyOriginally I thought of Winovich as a hand-in-the-dirt type rusher when the Patriots drafted him, which was a mistake. He profiles more like a Kyle Van Noy type rusher, who you can move around the front 7 to create pass rushing match-ups as well as set the edge in the run game. Van Noy is another classic story of Belichick rescuing a player out of a poor scheme fit and turning him into a borderline superstar as he had an excellent postseason run following the 2018 season. He’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the season, although I would not be surprised if Van Noy signs an extension to stay with the one team that figured out how to use him on the field properly. If Van Noy doesn’t come back, Winovich has similar characteristics and athletic traits.Damien Harris: Rex BurkheadRex Burkhead is a more versatile player than Harris, which is why I think he’ll make the roster in 2019. However, his injury history in regards to the head and neck areas are a valid concern about Burkhead’s ability to hold up long term as I believe the next major injury to that area could sideline him for an indefinite amount of time. Harris doesn’t have Burkhead’s versatility in the passing game, but is more of a downhill runner and adequate enough as a pass catcher that he’s not a complete tell to the defense. Harris will see more time as a runner as a rookie, although I could see his role expanding in the passing game further down the road although the team will rely on James White to be the main receiving threat out of the backfield for the next two seasons. Yodny Cajuste: Marcus CannonThe Patriots’ tackle situation is a bit of a mess with unproven players littering the roster. Marcus Cannon is the only player of the group with any sort of regular season and postseason experience although Isaiah Wynn was highly regarded coming out of Georgia last year. Regardless of which side of the line Cajuste ends up Womens Vincent Valentine Jersey , the roster domino effect is the same. Cannon’s contract isn’t too horrible, with just three years and just over $21.5M left while his cap hits cover no more than 4% of the cap in any of those years, the only concern with him is age. Cannon will play 2019 at Age 31, so you have to worry about potential physical decline especially for a player who is 6’6” 335. If Wynn and Cajuste lock down the two tackle positions, Cannon is likely out of a job. Hjalte Froholdt: Joe Thuney, Ted KarrasFroholdt will challenge Karras for a roster spot this year and if things go well, replace Thuney when he walks next season. Thuney has been a solid and reliable player, but with the salary cap in mind if the skill level is close enough you want the rookie contract vs. $9M/year. Last year, the Patriots did not draft a guard before signing Shaq Mason to a long-term extension so I don’t think Thuney will see similar treatment. Jarrett Stidham: Brian HoyerTom Brady is the only quarterback with job security in terms of starting, but the backup position is up for grabs this season. The Patriots have gone with a rookie as the backup QB in the past — ironically that player being Hoyer ten seasons ago — so this is not unprecedented. It’s likely the Patriots will carry three quarterbacks with Stidham being behind Brady and Hoyer on the depth chart. If Stidham shows remarkable progress in the preseason, I could see Hoyer being traded or just outright cut like in 2012 after the Patriots felt comfortable with Ryan Mallett as the backup. despite already (re-)signing a punter in the offseason, it looks more likely that Bailey is there to take Allen’s job than simply compete. This will be the second season the Patriots brought in serious competition for the punter job as last season they added Corey Bojorquez and tried to stash him on the practice squad only to see him claimed on waivers.Allen’s Super Bowl LIII performance might be the only reason there’s a competition because otherwise they might have just handed Bailey the job. I do think the team will give Bailey more chances to lock down the punter job because Allen is on a minimally guaranteed contract (only $100k guaranteed) whereas Bailey comes with a fifth round price tag and I don’t remember the last time a fifth round special teams only player was cut as a rookie.
