The next group for Saturday includes quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends — one position the Giants desperately need and two potential luxuries that could improve the offense.2019 NFL CombineLocation: Indianapolis, IN | Lucas Oil StadiumTime: 10 a.m. ETChannel: NFL NetworkLive Stream: NFL.com Day 2: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight endsAs we did with the first group, before we get into who is going to be participating, let’s take a look at what matters. This below graph was shared by Brian Burke, now of ESPN. It shows the correlation between single event results and the Approximate Value (Pro Football-Reference’s attempt to measure seasons by a single metric) over the first three years of a career.QuarterbackThis is the big one, obviously. All eyes are going to be on the quarterbacks over the next two months for the Giants. The most important eyes, arguably, were on Kyler Murray during the weigh-ins earlier in the week and he said he will save throwing and participation in the drills for his Pro Day on March 13.Really there’s not a lot to take away from the on-field drills for the quarterback. The throws are against air to receivers they haven’t spent a lot of time with so the timing can be a problem. Any “improved” mechanics can’t really be taken away from the drills, either, because if they don’t show up when there are defenders on the field, it doesn’t really matter. The most important part of the Combine for the quarterbacks will be the interviews and how they handle themselves with the coaching staff, team executives, and drawing/explaining plays will leave a bigger impression than any drill they do on the field.Chris’s pre-combine top 5:Dwayne Haskins - Ohio StateKyler Murray - OklahomaDrew Lock - MissouriJarrett Stidham - AuburnDaniel Jones - DukeCheck out his full write-up here.My top 3Kyler MurrayDwayne HaskinsWill Grier, West VirginiaProspects to watch:Everyone. The workouts might not teach you anything new, but it’s worth keeping an eye on if you wish.Full prospect list, QBPlayerSchoolPlayerSchoolWide receiverReceiver is another position where the on-field workouts don’t give us much more of an idea of what the prospects are than the film does. The 40 does matter, but there have been plenty of receivers who ran a sub-par 40, but still know how to get open. Keenan Allen ran a 4.7 and is one of the league’s best receivers at creating separation. Of course, all of that needs to be put in the context of a receiver’s entire game. You can’t expect every receiver who runs a 4.7 to have the ability of Keenan Allen.Early in Dave Gettleman’s tenure with the Carolina Panthers, he loved size at wide receiver. That led to the selections of Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess. After seeing how that turned out, Gettleman shifted the philosophy to prioritize athleticism with the selection of Curtis Samuel.Drafted WR results, by percentileYearTeamPlayerPickHeightWeightArm LengthSPARQ40BroadVertical3-Cone20Y ShuttleYearTeamPlayerPickHeightWeightArm LengthSPARQ40BroadVertical3-Cone20Y ShuttlePerhaps luckily, in this draft, there are a number of prospects with size and athleticism. The Giants won’t pick a receiver in the first round http://www.giantscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-daniel-jones-jersey , but Metcalf is really the only player projected to go there. If they believe adding a No. 2 or No. 3 could help the passing game, a wide receiver in the second- or fourth-round would not be a surprise. The Giants could also look for any skillset to slide in with Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard. Both have the versatility to play inside and outside, play bigger than their frame, and can get open deep down the field. Either a deep threat or tall red zone target could make sense. Full prospect list, WRPlayerSchoolPlayerSchoolTight endThe 40 has one of the higher correlations to success for tight ends, but getting everything together in a composite score like SPARQ can be a big help. We might be in for a class that rivals 2017, which featured Evan Engram, George Kittle, and David Njoku. With Engram on the roster, Scott Simonson re-signed, and Rhett Ellison still under contract, the Giants are also likely out of the tight end market. We also don’t really know what Gettleman prefers at that position. Greg Olsen was already a Panther when Gettleman took over and the only tight end he drafted during his tenure was Beau Sandland with one of the last picks of the 2016 draft (252nd overall) — though Sandland did post a respectable SPARQ score better than 69.8 percent better than NFL tight ends.Chris’s pre-combine top 5T.J.

I’ll be honest Womens Neal Sterling Jersey , I don’t remember all of my bold predictions for last week. Without checking, it’s probably safe to say I didn’t get any of them. I have a good feeling about this week, though.Disclaimer: A Bold Prediction is not something that is likely or probable to happen. Bold Predictions are blind guesses that are laughably optimistic beyond what anyone can reasonably expect to happen, but not so far as to be virtually impossible. Saying that Leonard Williams will get a sack is not a Bold Prediction, nor is saying that Bilal Powell will run for 650 yards. By definition, Bold Predictions are unlikely, but not impossible, to occur. Since this is a Jets site, they are also pro-Jets predictions. As always, the Final Score prediction is meant to be realistic, not a Bold Prediction.Sam Darnold bounces back with 3 TDs, including one on the ground.Darron Lee notches a sack, tackle for loss, and interception. Two Jets rush for 50+ yards and a TD.Robby Anderson reminds us that he can hold onto the ball, catching balls for 100+ yards and 2 TDs.The Jets defense holds the Jaguars to under 250 yards of total offense and forces 3 turnovers. And a bonus prediction: Jamal Adams leads the team in both sacks and tackles. Final Score: The Jets bounce back to a surprise win, 28-24.How small was the Jets’ playbook against the Browns? Before I begin, I’d just like to point out I watched all of the offensive plays from the Browns game. I spent close to five hours writing every single formation including every motion, every personnel packages and every play. I’ve come to the conclusion I need a life the Jets had a small-ish playbook. If you want a TLDR synopsis here you go.:The Jets had three run concepts: zone runs http://www.jetslockerroom.com/authentic-c.j.-mosley-jersey , counter with a TE pulling, and toss sweep.I counted just over a dozen passing concepts with most being used in the second half. That total does lump all flood plays together, however, each one had a different wrinkle as noted in detail below. The Jets passing game in particular looked severely limited with at least three of the same plays out of the same exact formation used multiple times, and in some cases back to back.I broke it down by half, only to show how the game plan might have changed at halftime. (Other than the last two minutes, hard to say it ever did.)1st half:The Jets ran 32 total plays in the first half with 13 passes and 19 runs. Of the 13 pass plays called in the first half, five were screens. Three of the screens were bubble screens with the slot WR backing up and getting the pass. Two were the exact same double bubble screen out of empty backfield. It’s fair to think the call in the huddle was exactly the same. The other double bubble was run out of a slightly different formation. The weak side bubble didn’t have a block due to the back staying in to protect the QB. It’s realistically the same play other than the weak side so let’s just call a spade a spade and call it the same play.A fourth WR screen was a “slip” screen with the slot cutting to the outside laterally with the flanker blocking in front of him. It’s a slightly different variant so it goes down as it’s own separate play. There only screen that wasn’t a bubble or slip was an H back screen. That leaves eight other pass calls with a total of five different concepts called. Reminder, a concept is a collection of routes that when run together make up a play call. (Example three crossing routes across the middle of the field = levels concept. A levels concept may have three or four play call variations based on which position crosses the field short and deep or who releases when when.)Here’s the concepts I saw in the first half:QB/HB waggle left with a WR crackback. Basically exactly what it sounds like.Failure Concept (so named by myself for the result of the plays): The routes in this concept were two deep fly patterns (one to each side) with a slot WR running an out route ans the fourth running a hitch. The deep route changed from the slot WR in the first play to the outside flanker in the second play. On the second play the back stayed in to block. On the first, the he ran an angle route. Both plays were run out of four wide formations with three lined up in a trips formation to the right side with a back left and a tight end left The routes were similar so I’m going to say it was the same play call. Flood Concept: Bates called these concepts three times where there was 1) a short route 2) a deep out (one of which comes across the middle of the field) and 3) a deep comeback route along the sideline. Two were preceded by play action, with another coming with no play action fake. All three were run out of different formations. As a defense, you practice against floods all the time and the Jets ran basically the same three basic routes. Slant/Arrow Concept. A slant route from the flanker with a arrow route from the slot man.Slant Concept. Both the flanker and slot run slant routes in the middle of the field. The last two concepts were mirrored, meaning both sides of the ball ran a slant arrow concept on one play. Both sides of the formation then ran the slant concept on the next play.In summary, the Jets had 13 pass calls in the first half. Of these plays, the Jets ran only six concepts: screens, failure concept, flood, QB/RB waggle Avery Williamson Jersey , arrow/slant and all slants.Moving to the running game and the three concepts: Zone. The vast majority of the runs were zone runs. Based on the RB movements, you can subdivide the plays as: inside zones which the intended hole was somewhere in between the tackles, outside zone runs where the ball was between the tackles but not outside the tight end and stretch zone runs where the ball was handed with the intention of stretching it outside the tackles into the wide areas of the field. It’s not that they are all the same exact play per se, but you can make the argument that any zone run to the inside is just a variant of the same play call. (You may have an inside zone run out of shotgun or under center, from different formations, and/or with different personnel groupings. Toss Sweeps. These accounted for 32% of the runs in the first half. Two toss sweeps were an identical play call — both were run out of the same formation with the same blocks. The rest were toss sweeps but had different formations and personnel packages.Shotgun Counter. This play was called twice out of the same formation. The strongside TE pulled to the backside of the formation as the back ran to the strong side. I didn’t see a single play where a guard pulled, where a tackle pulled, or there was any type of misdirection. The Jets were pretty basic. The second half was a mixture of new and previous pass concepts. The Jets continued with the screen game, running another four screens during the second half. The Jets reused the double bubble out of the empty set for the third time. Then they added a new bubble screen and used it twice. In essence, the Jets ran one different bubble screen in the second half. Only one screen was not a bubble screen to the WR, a successful TE screen.Bates called three more floods. They all had the same deep out, short out and deep fly route to one side of the field.Bates reused both the slant/arrow and slant concept, opting to run the slant/arrow on one side with the slants concept on the other side. Now for the new concepts: In total I counted eight concepts in the second half: Levels: Deep fly, medium in, and a short out route run to the outside of the formation.Spacing: All WR run to the first down distance and turn around.Deep out:Outside man runs 15 yard out, inside slot goes deep.Switch: Out of a stack formation, one WR runs deep with the other running a ten yard in/out to the left.Verticals: Hail Mary. Deep levels: Same as levels but deep routes.Smash-deep out:Outside WR runs spacing route underneath with inside running deep out.Shallow cross: Outside WR runs a shallow cross, with a deep fly and a post out of the slot and third WR respectively. The Jets re-ran three of the exact same plays from the exact same personnel package and formation. On two of these three instances Womens Le'Veon Bell Jersey , Darnold was intercepted.Let’s talk about what I didn’t see. The Jets did not utilize a single counter, counter-trey, or other form of blocking. There was not a single WR reverse or fake reverse. I saw one or two zone reads at the most. Other than the TE counter and a toss sweeps, you could argue the Jets ran three running plays in the entire game. (That’s pushing it though). In the passing game, the Jets did not run a single screen to an RB. They ran one to the H-back and one to the TE but not a single RB screen. The Jets didn’t seem to run a lot of routes over the middle, favoring a lot of medium to deep routes along the sidelines. For example, I didn’t see a levels concept over the middle, a deep dig concept, or a spacing concept. Once it got into desperation time, the Jets used two of the exact same plays twice — which suggests 1) they went in with an extremely small playbook anor 2) never planned a strategy for that situation. It’s hard to say whether the playbook was small or whether the Jets simply ran a lot of the same plays and concepts over and over again. Maybe it’s a case of using one concept and hoping changing formations/ packages enough would throw off a team. If I had to take a stab, I’d wager the Jets had 50-75 individualized play calls for the Browns game. However, if you were to lump all inside zones, outside zones, stretches, toss sweeps, floods, and bubbles together that number shrinks to probably 10-30 plays.

Once again, the Patriots employed their typical approach to free agency: short term and smart contracts to fill immediate holes. The Patriots did not sign any player this year to any contracts longer than 2 years or more than $12M in total, although a lot of that had to do with how tight the team is to the salary cap right now. Most of the Patriots’ signings were re-signing role guys from the last season as well as making a couple new additions at the DT and WR positions. Defensive tackle less of a priorityThe Patriots’ biggest FA signing from an average standpoint was former Packers and Jets DT Mike Pennel. The Patriots have Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler, and Pennel under control through the 2020 season (Butler will be a restricted FA after the season, but NE will likely offer a 2nd round tender to keep teams away). In a draft that’s more DL heavy, the Patriots can afford to wait until the mid to late rounds to pick up someone who can be a solid rotational player at the position. Dexter Lawrence has been a popular mock pick for the Patriots in the first round, although I see that being much less likely than before.Wide receiver picture still murkyThe Patriots are scheduled to have Julian Edelman and Phillip Dorsett as their top two receivers when training camp opens up. Edelman has proven to be the guy who carries the offense time and time again http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-james-harrison-jersey , so him being the top receiver is less of an issue vs. who is playing behind him. While re-signing Dorsett to a deal that maxes out at $2.5M and adding former Redskin Maurice Harris for about $1M, the team has elected to go spaghetti method at the WR position. I still think they will take at least one receiver in the top two rounds of the draft, although at best I see a rookie receiver putting up 40/600/6 in this offense. Edge Rusher more likelyThe Patriots are scheduled to open up 2019 with Michael Bennett, Deatrich Wise Jr., and John Simon as their top three edge rushers with Flowers signing with the Lions and Clayborn released last week. Bennett is 34 while Wise and Simon have two years left of control. The Patriots have room to add a 4th pass rusher, and I’d prefer that roster spot be filled by a guy who projects to be a major part of the rotation in years to come. The Patriots’ last two picks at the position have been mid rounds with Flowers and Wise, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they pick up an edge guy in the 3rd-4th round again. Keep an eye out for guardsJoe Thuney and Ted Karras are both scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency after the season. Already Dante Scarnecchia is scouting out prospects, reportedly visiting the Boston College pro day to work out Chris Lindstrom. With the Patriots unlikely to keep both aforementioned players in the fold following the season, the team could use an option to sit a year behind Thuney then take over the following season. Coming off a productive run that saw them score at least 38 points in four straight games, the New England Patriots took a step back on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills — at least on the offensive side of the football. While the win ultimately was a lopsided one, the unit scored only one touchdown and had to settle for five field goals (one of which missed wide right). This week Isaiah Wynn Jersey , a performance like that may not be enough to secure a victory. After all, a Green Bay Packers team is coming to town that features one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks and all the dangers that brings with it. Considering how most of the Patriots’ games went this season, New England’s offense might therefore have to go toe-for-toe again — and in order to do that, the unit will need to find a way to score against a defense that does not exactly stand out statistically, but that still cannot be underestimated. To find out more about Green Bay’s defense, we spoke with Jason B. Hirschhorn, who covers the team as an editor for our sister site Acme Packing Co. Speaking to Jason about the group, it becomes clear that while it has some weaknesses against the run its pass defense — led by a ferocious pass rushing unit, creatively utilized by the coaching staff — cannot be underestimated.“Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine’s creative blitzes have made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks, and he uses them often,” Jason said about the strength of Green Bay’s defense. This approach has helped the Packers register 3.3 sacks per game — tied for third best in the NFL. “Green Bay blitzes on just under 31 percent of their defensive snaps and generates pressure on approximately 29 percent of drop backs.”The attack up front impacts the entire defense Womens Danny Etling Jersey , as it allows cornerbacks more leeway in their man-to-man coverage. “[The blitzing] has given receivers little time to separate,” Jason pointed out. “According to NFL Next Gen Stats, the Packers defense has currently allowed the ninth lowest open-receiver percentage (41.4). If Patriots’ receivers don’t win their matchups early, the passing game could fall into disarray.”Of course, one key cog in the Packers’ defensive machine is no longer available: the team traded starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix — one of just two players to be on the field for 100% of defensive snaps — to the Washington Redskins at the trade deadline. “The Packers already had trouble at safety prior to Ha Ha Clinton-Dix’s ouster, so it remains entirely unclear how they plan to address the position,” said Jason about the move.“The early practice reports suggest that veteran cornerback Tramon Williams will shift into centerfield, but others such as Josh Jones and Bashaud Breeland could see time there as well,” he continued. This mixing-and-matching could pose a problem for the Patriots: what to expect is anyone’s guess at this point. However, the challenge Green Bay faces should still be a bigger one as Clinton-Dix’s departure will likely impact communication in the secondary.Whether the Patriots will try to take advantage of the void created by the Clinton-Dix trade he void creatwill be seen — one part of the Packers defense that will be attacked already seems to be clear, though: the run defense. “Stopping the run has presented issues for the Packers most of the season Youth Isaiah Wynn Jerseys ,” said Jason about a Green Bay team that ranks in the 20s in total yardage surrendered on the ground (834) and yards given up per carry (4.4).“At present, the defense ranks 24th against the rush by DVOA and just allowed 114 yards on the ground to Todd Gurley. The unit has struggled against non-elite running backs too, yielding 148 yards to Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida in the game prior,” continued Jason before shifting his attention to the Patriots: “Whether Sony Michel returns from his knee injury becomes a critical question heading into Sunday.”Michel, who missed Monday night’s game against the Bills with a knee injury, is listed as questionable to play. His availability will be big for New England especially considering that one of the NFL’s best run blockers — starting right guard Shaq Mason — will be out because of a calf issue. Establishing a ground game without both could be tough for the Patriots as it would make life easier for what has been an inconsistent pass defense so far this season.

The one Sterling Shepard Jerseys Stitched , and maybe only, bright spot for the Giants may be running back Saquon Barkley. And maybe he should be burning even more brightly. In each of his six career regular-season games, Barkley has generated more than 100 yards from scrimmage. He’s one game short of the all-time record of seven 100-plus-yard games to start a career, set by Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt a year ago.Last night became Barkley’s best performance yet, with 130 yards rushing on 13 carries and another 99 yards on nine catches. But there’s something that isn’t quite right about Barkley. More specifically, there’s an issue with how the Giants use him.Other great running backs become the focal point of the offense Dexter Lawrence New York Giants Jersey , the guy who is presumed to be getting the ball, and who indeed gets the ball until safeties crowd the line of scrimmage and defenses become susceptible to play-action passes. In Dallas, for example, that’s precisely how Ezekiel Elliott has been used.In New York, Barkley feels less like a workhorse and more like a role player who happens to make the most out of his opportunities when they come. So maybe more opportunities need to come his way, with Barkley being the focal point of the offense and the Giants using his skills to get defenses to swarm to him Red Dexter Lawrence Jersey , exploiting the holes that necessarily will emerge elsewhere among the 11 guys available to try to slow the offense down.If nothing else, fake handoffs to Barkley, after Barkley pounds the defense repeatedly, will take some steam out of the pass rush, giving quarterback Eli Many some/any time to throw. Currently, he has nearly none. Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu is claiming to have some inside information about Russell Wilson‘s interest in leaving the Seahawks.Responding to our post about the Seahawks thinking Wilson wants to play elsewhere Cheap Dexter Lawrence Jersey , Mathieu took to Twitter and said that he knows where Wilson really wants to play: New York.“Russ wants New York,” Mathieu wrote. “But you ain’t heard that from T.”But we just did hear that from T, and while it would be easy to blow this off as a late-night tweet from a player who’s in no position to know the facts, Mathieu has spoken many times of how much respect he has for Wilson. It seems unlikely that Mathieu would go off half-cocked about a player he respects so much. And, of course, Mathieu is far from the first person to suggest a Wilson-New York link. Rumors of Wilson eventually joining the Giants have been discussed many times this offseason. Wilson joining New York’s other team Womens Dexter Lawrence Jersey , the Jets, won’t happen because the Jets have Sam Darnold, but the Giants will be moving on from Eli Manning sooner rather than later. It would still take an awful lot for the Giants to pull off a trade to acquire Wilson this year, and it wouldn’t be easy next year, either, given that the Seahawks can use the franchise tag to keep him. But there sure is a lot of smoke.

Buffalo Bills 13 Matt Milano Jersey , Tennessee Titans 12: Bills scrape low-scoring win in Orchard Park The Buffalo Bills narrowly put away the Tennessee Titans, 13-12, on the back of an outstanding performance from their their defense. The Bills kept the Titans behind schedule and controlled the line of scrimmage with a run-obsessed gameplan, finishing with a game-winning field goal by Stephen Hauschka as the game expired. The Buffalo defense suffocated the Titans for most of the day. They had three turnovers, kept Tennessee out of the end zone, and limited the Titans to 221 yards of total offense. Marcus Mariota was 14-of-26 for 129 yards (5.0 yards per attempt) and an interception. The Titans runners combined for 100 yards on 25 carries. Kyle Williams and Jerry Hughes each had a sack. Hughes would’ve had two, but he shoved Mariota to try and avoid a roughing the passer penalty, which backfired when Mariota didn’t lose his balance. The Bills treated Josh Allen with kid gloves in this game, running at more than a 2:1 ratio compared to his passes. It was a good idea too, considering Tennessee’s stout defense. The Bills really struggled to break big plays, with their longest result of the day a 16 yard run from LeSean McCoy. Allen scored a rushing touchdowns and generally made smart decisions most of the day, but rarely attempted to attack the Titans defense. He threw for fewer than five yards per attempt Jim Kelly Jersey , and though it wasn’t his fault, Allen had an interception bounce off Andre Holmes into the hands of a defender. The big plays weren’t available, but that was enough for today’s win.The other side of Buffalo’s treatment was their stronger commitment to LeSean McCoy and the running game. McCoy had more rushing attempts in this game than he had in the rest of the season to this point. the Titans defense mostly contained him, but he still produced more than 100 all-purpose yards. The Bills finished with an unsexy 43 carries for 144 yards and a Josh Allen touchdown. At 2-3, the Bills climbed out of the AFC’s basement, and preserved Sean McDermott’s winning record for at least two more weeks (the head coach is now 11-10 with the Buffalo Bills).NotesNew waiver addition Jordan Phillips had a good day, in on two tackles for loss.Rookie Taron Johnson netted his first career interception.Rookie Tremaine Edmunds had his second career forced fumble. Shaq Lawson and Jerry Hughes also forced fumbles on the day, and the Bills recovered two of those three.Corey Bojorquez appeared to injure his upper arm, but it didn’t impact his punting. He downed his next kick within the five yard line.Ray-Ray McCloud all but iced the game on his second career catch with a bubble screen for a first down at the end of the fourth quarter. This was the first game-winning drive of Josh Allen’s career.Bojorquez was the only notable injury to come out of this game in real time. The Buffalo Bills were the healthiest team in the NFL during the 2018 regular season when looking at total games lost to injury. According to Twitter user @ManGamesLostNFL, Buffalo lost only 85 games to injury this year. The Bills were joined in the bottom five by the Chicago Bears (97), Atlanta Falcons (107), New York Jets (136) Womens Thurman Thomas Jersey , and Los Angeles Rams (138).While Buffalo may have only lost 85 games to injury, they had enough players injured in key positions that those injuries definitely had a tremendous impact on their season. Losing starting quarterback Josh Allen for four games forced the team to start Nathan Peterman and the then-recently un-retired Derek Anderson for three of those games. In those three contests, Peterman and Anderson combined to go 75-for-121 (62%) for 676 yards (5.59 YPA), 0 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. The two combined to lead the Bills to 5, 6, and 9 points in those three games, all blowout losses. The Bills also cycled through multiple punters on the season thanks to injury. Incumbent punter Colton Schmidt faced a challenge from rookie Cory Carter this summer, only to have the latter suffer a torn ACL in a pre-season game. Schmidt was replaced by Corey Bojorquez, who suffered a shoulder injury when he ran a fake field goal during a real field goal attempt. Bojorquez was averaging 45.1 yards per punt when he went on injured reserve, and after he was replaced by Schmidt, the Bills moved on from their former punter and brought in Matt Darr http://www.thebillslockerroom.com/authentic-bruce-smith-jersey , who was even less effective than Schmidt. Overall, the injuries to the punters had an impact on Buffalo’s special teams, which took a big step backward in 2018.Of course, not all injuries are of the variety where a player misses games. Rookie cornerback Taron Johnson suffered a shoulder injury during the season’s first week, but he continued to gut through the pain until December. Who knows how much the injury limited the diminutive slot corner in terms of tackling, and even though he had a strong season overall, it could have been even better if he were healthy. Linebacker Matt Milano suffered a gruesome break to his lower leg late in the season, so he only missed three games overall. However, Buffalo’s defense clearly missed the versatile young linebacker, and they were forced to play an undrafted rookie (Corey Thompson) in Milano’s place. The Bills also lost their starting center, Russell Bodine, to a broken bone after ten games. He was replaced in the lineup by an ineffective Ryan Groy Color Rush Darryl Johnson Jersey , making a weak Buffalo offensive line group even worse.Kicker Stephen Hauschka was injured via a cheap shot during a game against the New York Jets, but he managed not to miss any time. Hauschka was clearly limited by back pain, however, as the normally strong-legged kicker missed short on routine boots of 42 yards in consecutive December weeks. On the whole, Buffalo spent the 2018 season with the same players they wanted in their everyday starting lineup. However, a few key injuries in positions lacking depth helped to derail even further what was a tough season for the club. Shoring up those positions heading into next year will be imperative and, hopefully, the Bills can be as healthy as they were this season in 2019.

Tyrod Taylor remembers winning the starting

job Vosean Joseph NFL Jersey , throwing touchdown passes and seeing die-hard fans standing in snow at Buffalo's airport on New Year's Eve to celebrate the end of a 17-year playoff drought. His three years with the Bills were special, filled with long-lasting memories. His exit wasn't.Traded to Cleveland in March for a third-round draft pick (No. 65 overall), Taylor said Tuesday that he holds no bitterness toward the Bills, but that the team's decision to part ways with him is fueling his desire to deliver for the Browns. It's driving him."Each year has its own way of motivating itself," Taylor said. "But definitely how I think it ended there, it's motivation for this year."Coming off a "perfect" performance in his preseason debut for the Browns last week, Taylor, who has quickly established himself as a leader in Cleveland Vosean Joseph Jersey Draft , will face his former teammates for the first time Friday night when the Bills visit in the second exhibition for both teams.Taylor made it clear that there's no resentment and that his focus this week, and every week, is on improving the Browns — not paying back the Bills."I'm looking forward to Week 2 of the preseason," Taylor said. "I'm not going to make this about me or Buffalo. It's an opportunity for us to get better as a team, an opportunity for me to get better as a player."While that's honorable, Taylor reiterated that if somewhere down the line the Browns and Bills ever matched up in the postseason, he'd love to show Buffalo what it's missing."I wouldn't say it was painful," Taylor said of being dealt by the Bills. "I have nothing to hold (hang) my head about in my time in Buffalo. It was a progression from a players' standpoint each and every year Infant Vosean Joseph Jersey , but of course why would I not want to beat that team in the playoffs if it comes down to that?"I'm always excited to compete. But I know those guys, played against those guys, the majority of those guys for the past three years, some new players and I'd love to play against those guys."It didn't take long for the 29-year-old Taylor to ingratiate himself to the Browns. He has set an example on and off the field, whether arriving at 5 a.m. to get in an early morning workout or staying late to break down film. It's the only way Taylor knows, and he's having a strong influence on rookie Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick who will one day supplant him as Cleveland's starter.Mayfield said Taylor is showing him how to be a professional."Just the work ethic and everything he brings to the table every day," Mayfield said Womens Vosean Joseph Jersey , when asked about Taylor's standards. "It's the same every day. You hear (offensive coordinator) coach (Todd) Haley talk about 'not being a yo-yo guy. You want to be consistent,' and Ty really, really is the example of that."He's the same guy every day. You know exactly what you're going to get out of him, and that's important for our guys to see that. They see the standard. They see the expectations, and he lives up to it every day."Taylor set a high bar for himself last week by recording a perfect 158.3 rating in two series against the New York Giants. He completed 5 of 5 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown before turning the offense over to Mayfield, who shined in his NFL preseason debut.Mayfield's performance prompted a push — locally and nationally — for the Browns to start the Heisman Trophy winner over Taylor. But while there's noise outside the Browns, Taylor's world is tranquil."I really don't hear those comments," he said. "I've always been focused on myself. Like I said from Day One Authentic Vosean Joseph Jersey , I'm in competition with myself and how can I make myself better each and every day and I'm going to keep having that mindset and push myself to be the best player I can be."NOTES: Tempers flared during practice, which featured three fights, including one involving Pro Bowl WR Jarvis Landry and starting CB Terrence Mitchell. As Landry rolled on the ground following a catch, Mitchell went over the top of him and hit the receiver's back. Landry popped up and slammed the ball of Mitchell's helmet before they grabbed each other's facemasks. Coach Hue Jackson chalked the skirmishes up to the dog days of camp. "This is football. We have been going after it," Jackson said. "It is not something that we want. We are men. Guys know as long as we do not start swinging with our fists and we let it go, we can move on from it." ... Former Ohio State DT Jonathan Hankins is scheduled to work out for the Browns on Wednesday. He previously played for the Giants and Colts. Cornerback Vontae Davis pulled one of the stranger moves in recent memory on Sunday afternoon when he walked out on the Bills at halftime of their loss to the Chargers.Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said Davis had decided to retire from the NFL and Davis confirmed it in a statement released later on Sunday.

However, teams who could be a bumper crop of cornerbacks who are intriguing developmental prospects -- particularly when it comes to big, long, physical former wide receivers. As it stands now, the New York Giants do need to look at the cornerback position for the future Jon Halapio Jerseys 2019 , but they might be okay for the present. That would put them in the group of teams who could be looking for mid-round prospects who could develop into starters. Both James Bettcher and Dave Gettleman have shown an affinity for long corners, and Justin Layne of Michigan State could catch their eye as a long press-man corner .MeasurablesProsUncommon length for the position. 6-foot 1 inches, 33-inch arms. Good technique in press coverage.Good hips to stay in tight coverage with receivers. Uses length well to disrupt at the catch point. Willing run defender.Quick to come downhill against underneath throws.ConsNeeds to improve awareness of blockers in space. Can get lost in zone coverage.A bit slow-footed and leggy in his backpedal. Can make transitions difficult against quicker receivers.Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying - Kyle Krabbs (The Draft Network - Scouting Report) Does He Fit The Giants? If the Giants want to lean on press-man coverage as the backbone of their defense, the Layne certainly fits. He also fits the Giants’ archetype of big, long, athletic defenders and has an uncommon blend of size and athleticism for the position. He is one of several converted wide receivers in this draft class White Curtis Riley Jerseys , and shows it with his recognition of route concepts and when to make a play on a receiver preparing to catch the ball. He needs to improve in zone coverage, both in his foot quickness and awareness -- he sometimes loses track of blockers while in pursuit -- but he does have the agility and burst to be effective there with good coaching. Layne has remarkably similar measurables to Sam Beal, who the Giants selected with their (natural) third round pick during the 2018 Supplemental Draft, and they could view Layne as a potential Day 2 pick to develop alongside Beal. Ohio State will hold its Pro Day workout on Wednesday and quarterback Dwayne Haskins is one of the top prospects heading from Columbus to the NFL this year.At least one team is using the occasion to do more that watch Haskins go through the motions on the field. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that a contingent from the Giants that included head coach Pat Shurmur and offensive coordinator Mike Shula met with Haskins and had dinner with him on Tuesday night. There have been varying reports about the Giants’ level of interest in Haskins, who threw 50 touchdowns in his only season as the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes, but there have been plenty of calls for the team to land a successor to Eli Manning.General Manager Dave Gettleman has talked about following the “Kansas City model” of drafting a quarterback in the first round and using his rookie season as a learning experience. With two first round picks Curtis Riley Jerseys 2019 , the Giants are well stocked to put that plan into motion, assuming, of course, there’s a quarterback that strikes their fancy.

By now Youth Hjalte Froholdt Jersey , everybody following the NFL probably knows plenty about the matchup between the New England Patriots offense and the Los Angeles Rams defense: Tom Brady and his receivers going against a secondary led by Marcus Peters and ex-Patriot Aqib Talib, New England’s offensive line trying to clear paths versus a talented front seven featuring standout linemen Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh.The L.A. defense, however, goes beyond its big-name members as Joe McAtee points out. “What has been enjoyable covering this defense is to see the power of name recognition resonate throughout the league,” he told Pats Pulpit. “Aaron Donald! Ndamukong Suh! Aqib Talib! Marcus Peters! Dante Fowler! Names that people know! And then the football starts, and name recognition couldn’t matter less.”Joe is part of the managing team at our sister site Turf Show Times and as such closely following a Rams squad that ranked 19th in the NFL during the regular season with a scoring average of 23.4 points surrendered per game. “We’ve talked a lot on our side about how this isn’t a bad defense by any means Womens Hjalte Froholdt Jersey ,”he said. “It’s also not one of the league’s best, but coupled with the offensive firepower, it’s been obviously sufficient to get us to this point.”One part of the reason that the Rams now find themselves two days away from their first Super Bowl performance since returning to Los Angeles in 2016 are the performances of the team’s players not named Donald, Suh or Talib. “There are plenty of contributors I’d point to that don’t carry the recognition those guys do outside the Rams’ bubble,” he said before singling out one player in particular: safety John Johnson.Johnson played the second-most snaps on the Rams this season and registered 130 tackles as well as a team-high five interception so far this season. “Johnson might be the best defender on the team after Aaron Donald while enjoying about 1% of his fame,” said Joe about the defensive back who is not the only under-the-radar player mentioned out as a core contributor on the Rams’ defense.“Defensive lineman Michael Brockers is a key run gap stuffer and has been since he was drafted in 2012 Authentic Hjalte Froholdt Jersey ,” said Joe. “Linebacker Mark Barron is the chief run game backer. Linebacker Cory Littleton, a special teams star who lacks technical supremacy on defense, has been thrust into the job in the wake of Alec Ogletree’s departure. Slot cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman has been very good in his role before embracing the villain narrative coming out of the NFC Championship.”Not all has been perfect for Los Angeles, though, and part of it is inconsistent play by some of those lesser-known defenders. The shortcoming were especially apparent in the ground game: the Rams — as good as they were against the pass and when it come to putting pressure on quarterbacks — struggled to stop teams from running on them during the regular season as both advanced metrics and traditional statistics showed. So is it fair to say that the team has issues against the run, especially considering that the Patriots have been powerful in this aspect of the game? Only partially Hjalte Froholdt Jersey Boys , said Joe. “It’s an accurate portrayal for the regular season. In the playoffs though, the run defense has been fantastic,” he pointed out. “They shut down Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott before doing the same against the Saints’ duo of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.”“A large part of that has simply been defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh,” continued Joe about the reasons for the team’s success in this part of the game. “He’s been much, much, much better in the playoffs than he was throughout the regular season. Is that something to expect again on Sunday or will there be a return to form? I have no clue Infant Hjalte Froholdt Jersey , but it’s clear the Rams’ defensive front has just been much improved in run defense the last two weeks.”For the Patriots, being able to establish a presence on the ground will be key. And if the team is able to neutralize Suh as well as his talented partner Aaron Donald it will be on some of the players mentioned above to carry the load. Will they be able to do it? And will the Patriots even be able to force them in potentially unfavorable situations? That remains to be seen, but might very well be a key factor on Sunday.2018 Patriots roster cuts: Offensive tackle Ulrick John to be placed on injured reserve One of the New England Patriots’ roster moves to come is expected to be placing at least two offensive linemen on injured reserve: first-round rookie Isaiah Wynn will reportedly miss the season with a torn Achilles, while free agency addition Ulrick John is expected to be out for the year as well (according to the Boston Sports Journal’s Christopher Price):Wynn tearing his Achilles opened the door for another offensive tackle to make the team. The battle for this was still on entering the preseason finale, with offseason acquisition Ulrick John possibly having good odds of winning it: during the regular season “dress rehearsal” one week earlier, he was the first offensive tackle off the bench. However Hjalte Froholdt Jersey Draft , his foot injury early against the New York Giants put an end to his chances of earning the spot.Cole Croston could be the main beneficiary of John being out for the year, and make the squad as its forth option at offensive tackle.

Jones Jordan Jenkins Jersey 2019 , who was 60, had been battling myeloma cancer for many years.Jones was the No. 2 overall pick of the 1980 draft after a celebrated career as a football player and track star at the University of Texas. He entered the school with a gold medal that he won as a member of the 4X100 meter relay team at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.Jones was the leading receiver for a run-oriented Longhorns offense in each of his final three years at the school and the Jets drafted him after Billy Sims went first overall to the Lions and before Anthony Munoz was selected by the Bengals. His career didn’t pan out as well as Munoz’s as he caught 138 passes for 2,322 yards and 13 touchdowns over five seasons before injuries derailed his career. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.2018 New York Jets Practice Squad Tracker NFL cut down day is over. Now it’s time to form the 10 man practice squad. The Jets and other NFL teams will select 10 players each with practice squad eligibility from among the hundreds of players who passed unclaimed through waivers. We’ll be tracking all of the Jets practice squad signings below as they come in.2018 New York Jets Practice Squad Brandon Bryant, Safety. Undrafted in the 2018 NFL supplemental draft, Bryant had a strong ending to the preseason. Could be a factor in the safety rotation by next year.Frankie Luvu, OLB.Undrafted free agent in the 2018 NFL draft class, Luvu was a surprise cut. Had a strong camp White Leonard Williams Jerseys , at times running with the starters. Might be in the plans as a situational pass rusher of the future.Deontay Burnett, WR.Undrafted free agent in the 2018 NFL draft class, Burnett had a very strong preseason with the Tennessee Titans, catching all eleven passes he was targeted on. Former USC teammate of Sam Darnold.De’Angelo Henderson, RB.A poor man’s Maurice Jones-Drew, and a personal favorite ofmine, Henderson is a height challenged running back and a sixth round choice of the Broncos in the 2017 NFL draft. Henderson could challenge for playing time soon.Anthony Wint Leonard Williams Jerseys 2019 , ILB. Undrafted free agent from the 2018 NFL draft class. A smallish inside linebacker without much in the way of cover skills. Difficult to see this guy developing into a meaningful contributor. Perhaps could be useful on special teams.Jeremy Clark, CB. A giant cornerback bigger than any safety on the roster, nearly big enough to be a linebacker. Drafted by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL draft, Clark spent most of the 2017 season on the sidelines injured. Nico Falah, OL. Undrafted free agent from the 2018 NFL draft class. An undersized center/guard and another USC teammate of Sam Darnold. Falah spent time in the Tennessee Titans camp this preseason.John Wolford, QB. Undrafted free agent from the 2018 NFL draft class. Got some playing time in the fourth preseason game, and also attended Jets rookie minicamp. This one is a puzzler. Wolford showed nothing in the preseason game White Kelechi Osemele Jerseys , was not highly regarded coming out of college, and in my opinion there were a number of significantly better QBs that cleared waivers.Dieugot Joseph, OT. Undrafted free agent from the 2017 NFL draft class. Joseph is a bit undersized, raw, athletic, long armed left tackle project. Originally signed by the Chicago bears, he also spent some time with the Baltimore Ravens and the Minnesota Vikings. A lottery ticket with some raw athletic tools to try to develop into an NFL left tackle.Bronson Kaufusi Kelechi Osemele Jerseys 2019 , DL. A third round pick by the Baltimore Ravens from the 2016 NFL draft class. A bit of a tweener in the Jets defense at 6’ 6”, 275 pounds. Missed the entire 2016 season with a broken ankle. Played three games for the Ravens in 2017.One thing that will never be relegated to a practice squad is the incredible Great American Twitter Widget.

ORCHARD PARK Authentic Darryl Johnson Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — LeSean McCoy is doing his best to remain patient. It hasn’t been easy.Buffalo’s trademark rushing attack has gone missing one month into the season, making things more difficult for a new-look offense trying to find its identity with a rookie quarterback. McCoy has surprisingly been a nonfactor for Buffalo with the running game stuck in neutral.“We’re just trying to figure it out,” McCoy said.Getting back to basics in the run game is a point of emphasis for the Bills (1-3) as they look for a much-needed spark. The 31st-ranked offense was expected to lean on McCoy this season, but so far that hasn’t been the case. The Bills are 24th in rushing, down from sixth a year ago, and McCoy hasn’t been a focal point like in previous years. In three games, McCoy has 85 yards rushing on 21 attempts. He also has eight receptions for 41 yards, giving him 126 yards from scrimmage on the season — typical numbers in a single game for McCoy.McCoy did miss one game with a rib injury but was not limited due to the injury in Week 4 against Green Bay, a game in which he saw only five carries.“At the end of the day Darryl Johnson Jersey Boys , all I can control is just when I get the ball in my hand, making plays when my number is called,” McCoy said. “It’s as simple as that. Help the team win games. … They know I want to be involved. They know I want to get the ball every play, so they know that.”The Bills built their offense around McCoy the previous two years and he rewarded them handsomely. A Pro Bowler in five consecutive seasons, McCoy had a career-best average of 5.4 yards per carry in 2016 (along with 1,267 yards, the fourth-highest total of his career) and 1,138 rushing yards a season ago, when he helped lead the Bills to their first playoff berth since 1999.Getting McCoy involved would be welcome for Buffalo for a variety of reasons. Not only is McCoy the team’s best playmaker Infant Darryl Johnson Jersey , the Bills are looking to take pressure off Josh Allen, who struggled mightily against the Packers. Allen had just 58 yards passing in the first half against Green Bay and finished with 151 yards and two interceptions.“The game plan we have to win football games here in Buffalo is manage the game, play great defense, score in the red zone,” McCoy said. “It’s all the small things, give ourselves a chance to win. That’s all I can really say. We’re not the first team with a young quarterback. Because with a formula like that, you need a good running game, you need a great defense to help the young quarterback out. And I think we have that.”McCoy will need some assistance from the rest of Buffalo’s struggling offense. The line has had difficulty moving on from Eric Wood, Richie Incognito and Cordy Glenn Darryl Johnson Jersey Draft , who all departed in the offseason. And the wide receivers, led by the inconsistent Kelvin Benjamin, have had trouble creating separation downfield and catching the ball with consistency.Coach Sean McDermott stressed the need for Buffalo to be better along the line of scrimmage.“If you don’t win at the line of scrimmage in the run or the pass game, you’ve got no chance,” McDermott said. “That’s a football fundamental 101 and we have to win at the line of scrimmage. You go back and you double down on things you believe in: the fundamentals, mindset, the plan. There’s a lot of hands in that, it’s not just the offensive line. It’s every position establishing the line of scrimmage.”The task will be difficult on Sunday against Tennessee. The Titans (3-1) have yet to allow a rushing touchdown and have only allowed seven touchdowns total.“We’ve got to make these adjustments offensively,” McDermott said. “That running game’s gotta get going.”NOTES: Safeties Micah Hyde (groin) and Rafael Bush (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday. Bush is considered day to day Darryl Johnson NFL Jersey , while Hyde is week to week. … The Bills claimed defensive tackle Jordan Phillips off waivers from Miami and released defensive tackle Robert Thomas. Phillips had a sideline outburst on Sunday in Miami’s 38-7 loss to New England and said on his Instagram account Tuesday that he “couldn’t be happier” to leave Miami. Phillips was a second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015. The Buffalo Bills currently have close to $90 million in cap space available to fill out the team’s roster this off-season. (AP) — Washburn University’s joy over one of its own going to the pros quickly shifted to grief this weekend after a shooting killed a current Washburn football player and wounded the former member of the team who was drafted by the New York Giants just hours earlier.Police in Topeka, Kansas, where the university is located, said officers found 23-year-old defensive back Dwane Simmons dead when they investigated gunshots shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. Cornerback Corey Ballentine was wounded, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Ballentine, also 23, grew up in Topeka and was picked by the Giants on Saturday in the sixth round of the NFL draft.A preliminary investigation determined that the shooting occurred during a social gathering outside a residence, Topeka police spokeswoman Gretchen Koenen said in an email Sunday evening. She said dozens of people were at the gathering and police were working to gather evidence and witness statements.“We want to emphasize that we need those who were present to let us know what they saw,” Koenen said.Washburn president Jerry Farley said, “This was a terrible way to end a day which should have been a day of celebration and a day to look forward to Dwane’s upcoming year at Washburn and the beginning of Corey’s professional career.”Washburn coach Craig Schurig said Simmons’ death is heartbreaking. He said Simmons, a junior from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, maintained a great attitude even while battling through two knee injuries.“Dwane is one of the most energetic and well-liked players I have ever coached at Washburn,” Schurig said. “Dwane’s infectious smile and love for football and his teammates was truly inspirational.”Farley said both Simmons and Ballentine have been great representatives of the university. It’s not yet clear how Ballentine’s injuries from the shooting might affect his football career. In a statement Sunday, the Giants said, “We are aware of the tragic situation and continue to gather information. We have spoken to Corey, and he is recovering in the hospital. Our thoughts are with Dwane Simmons’ family, friends and teammates and the rest of the Washburn community.”Giants at Panthers staff picks, predictions: Does anyone believe in the Giants? Can the 1-3 New York Giants, badly in need of a victory, upset the 2-1 Carolina Panthers on the road Sunday? Let’s see what your Big Blue View staff writers believe.Chris PflumCan the Giants pull off the upset? That’s the question with which we’re all faced. The answer to that is, “of course they can.” This is football, and anything can happen on any given Sunday. But will they? Well Dexter Lawrence NFL Draft , that is an entirely different question. The answer to that, to me, comes down to which Giants team we see take the field against the Carolina Panthers. All week long we have tried to figure out what is wrong with the Giants’ offense. The Giants’ scheme itself isn’t a sorry, broken thing like what Ben McAdoo fielded, but the result has been little different from the previous two years. The opportunities have been there for plays down the field, but too often they have been passed up for safer options — or the safer option was taken before the bigger play could be made — unless the team was desperate. Far, far too often, the Giants have played offense like a team frightened of losing, rather than playing like a team bent on winning. The discussion has gone back and forth, whether it is the fault of Eli Manning — the quarterback making the decisions — or Pat Shurmur for coaching the offense this way. But at this point, at 1-3 with their season already on life support, it doesn’t matter. Either Shurmur needs to coach to win or Eli needs to rediscover some of the “gunslinger” he had before McAdoo arrived and he had to adapt to a conservative West Coast Offense. I do believe both are capable of it. Despite all the pessimism that has already built up, we have seen sparks of that old Eli in this offense, and we have seen this offense attack defenses in Minnesota without the plethora of talent it currently has. If that offense comes out of the tunnel in Carolina, they can win and it wouldn’t even be an upset, because they can be so much better than they have shown. But will they? So far we’ve only seen that only sparingly, and that isn’t enough to inspire confidence from me. Panthers win.Final score: Panthers 27, Giants 20Season record: 1-3Dan PizzutaThe key to the Giants success is of course going to be what the offense looks like. The Carolina defense hasn’t been the top-10 unit it’s been in the past, but it’s still in the top-10 in a few places on defense. The Panthers rank eighth in DVOA against opposing No. 1 receivers, sixth against No. 2 receivers, and ninth against running backs in the passing game. Those just happen to be where the Giants are good on offense. The weaknesses in the Panthers’ pass defense — 22nd against “other” wide receivers and 30th against tight ends — just aren’t places the Giants can exploit right now. What we’ll see — rather quickly, probably — is whether the Giants think they need to take downfield shots or if they’re content with the short passes they’ve gone with for the first four weeks. The Carolina defense ranks 30th in big play rate allowed, so this would be the time to take some shots. But the Panthers will also have Eric Reid at safety Color Rush Deandre Baker Jersey , which is an upgrade to the back end of their secondary. On the other side of the ball, it’s all about stopping Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey, which the Giants haven’t really shown they can do. The Giants are surprisingly eighth in DVOA against opposing running backs in the passing game, and while they held Alvin Kamara to 47 receiving yards last week, they let him run for 134. Between play-action and option plays, the Panthers are going to use a lot of deception to open up big plays. Once they get into the open field, it’s anyone’s guess if they get tackled. Curtis Riley is tied for fifth among defensive backs with four missed tackles — a 22.2 percent rate — and quietly Alec Ogletree is tied for third among all defenders with five broken tackles for a 31.2 percent rate. Newton and McCaffrey aren’t easy to bring down when the defense has a good angle. Without it, it’s almost impossible. Final score: Panthers 27, Giants 17Season record: 3-1Fanpulse PicksGiants fans at Big Blue View think the Giants will lose by 1.Eagles fans at Bleeding Green Nation think the Eagles will win by 5.Patricia TrainaFool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...Okay, so you know how the old saying goes. When I see this Giants team, I see a group that has a lot of talent but for whatever reason is just not coming together like a lot of us (okay, me) thought they would by this point in the season.Head coach Pat Shurmur and the players continue to preach patience. They continue to insist they’re getting closer. I’m sorry but we heard the getting closer line a lot last year only to have our hearts broken week in and week out. I do believe that the Giants are on the right track, but I also think they have a long way still to go before everything comes together. They’ve yet to show the can handle the zone read with any consistency, and after seeing how Alvin Kamara hurt them last week, I shudder to think what Chirstian McCaffrey is going to do.Final score: Panthers 28, Giants 20Season record: 1-3Joe DeLeoneLuck was not on the side of the Giants this season. This early stretch of the year has been rough, especially because of the talented teams they have had to face. It does not help they have to take on another NFC South contender this Sunday.Facing the Panthers is not what the Giants needed to overcome a rough first quarter of the season. Despite having a good opportunity to put out a good offensive showing, a win does not appear in the Giants’ future. The most daunting part of this match up is the Panther run game. Coming in with a league best 166 rush yards per game, it is hard to imagine the G-Men will stand much of a chance. The double headed monster of Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey will prove to be too much for this Giants defense that has struggled mightily to stop the run. Last week they faced a similar running back who is an elite pass catcher in Alvin Kamara, and got torched. While the secondary should expect to have a good game, run defense will be the determining factor. Final score: Panthers 33, Giants 24Season record: 1-3Andrea HangstI see no reason for the Giants defense to be able to stop the Panthers’ top-ranked run game this week Youth Deandre Baker Jersey , and if that run game helps Carolina get to a lead early, the Panthers won’t have a reason to stop running, either. And while Eli Manning and the Giants offense may yet right the ship, expecting that to happen on the road against Carolina this Sunday doesn’t seem like the time or the place for it. Final score: Panthers 26, Giants 16Season record: 2-2Mark SchofieldCan this offense get right in a hurry? That’s the question facing Eli Manning and company, and they’ll need to do it against a defense that boasts a tough front seven. If there is one silver lining in facing this Carolina Panthers defense, it is that the secondary keeps it pretty vanilla in the back third. The Panthers are a zone-heavy team for the most part, often using a lot of Cover 3. There should be opportunities on those comeback routes and out routes that Manning missed in the direction of Odell Beckham last week. As we have seen with this offense, however, opportunities do not always translate to points. Until we see better execution from this unit it is hard to feel confident about their chances.Final score: Panthers 26, Giants 14Season record: 1-3Kevin HaswellThere’s no doubt that the Giants have the talent on their roster to win most weeks. That’s the part I can’t figure out. I want so badly to be able to pick the Giants to win every week but the more I pick them to win and the more they disappoint, the harder it is for me to pick them moving forward. So this week, instead of being left disappointed after another Giants loss, I am going to pick the Panthers to win decisively. The Giants will stick in this game for one half, but Carolina pulls away late to get the Week 5 win. Final score: Panthers 24, Giants 14Season record: 1-2 (no pick made in Week 4)Ed ValentineMaybe this is the key for the Giants. For the second time this season I’m about to make it a clean sweep — with everyone here at Big Blue View picking the Giants to lose. The last time this happened, Week 3 vs. the Houston Texans, was the week the Giants actually won a game.No big analysis here. Simply this — until the Giants show they can play good offense and win a game I’m just going to continue to pick them to lose.Final score: Panthers 30, Giants 24Season record: 0-4

The Patriots have added incentives to his deal in the last couple of years and could do the same if he does return for a 10th season with the team.Patriots 2018 53-man roster projection: cutdown week edition There is only one game left on the New England Patriots’ preseason schedule – tonight’s meeting with the New York Giants –, and it will likely not impact the subsequent roster cutdowns all too much. We can therefore give predicting the team’s opening day roster one last shot. If the past two projections are any indication, though, expect New England to make some kind of move soon to destroy it.Let’s take a look:Quarterback (2): Tom Brady, Brian HoyerThe quarterback position remains unchanged: Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer are the top two at the position, with Brady the undisputed starter and Hoyer an experienced backup. Rookie Danny Etling has still not shown enough consistency and long-term potential to be kept around on the 53-man roster. He could find a home on New England’s practice squad, but even that is not a given at this point in time.Running back (6): James White, Rex Burkhead, Sony Michel, Jeremy Hill, James Develin, Brandon BoldenSony Michel has returned to the practice fields earlier this week but might still be limited early on during the season. As a result, the Patriots would be smart to keep an additional running back on their active roster – and as has been the case over the last two projections, Jeremy Hill is the favorite to be that guy and serve as a rotational early-down and goal line back alongside Rex Burkhead. James White and James Develin are locks, Brandon Bolden makes the team as an emergency option on offense and a core special teamer.Wide receiver (5): Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett N'Keal Harry New England Patriots Jersey , Cordarrelle Patterson, Riley McCarron, Matthew SlaterLast week’s projection had Kenny Britt make the team, and Eric Decker fighting for his roster life. Both are no longer with the Patriots due to release and (Britt) retirement (Decker). While New England could enter the season with just three pure wideouts plus special teams ace Matthew Slater on the 53-man squad, a fifth player should be expected on the team. Of the men currently on the roster, Riley McCarron seems to be that player due to his solid training camp and versatility as a punt returner. However, seeing the team use a trade or free agency acquisition to fill that fifth spot would not be a surprise at all.Tight end (3): Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen, Jacob HollisterThere are no surprises at tight end and no changes when compared to the last two roster projections: Dwayne Allen still seems to be safe as an experienced blocking tight end, while training camp standout Jacob Hollister continues to offer intriguing potential as a pass catcher – especially considering the state of the wide receiver position. Together with Rob Gronkowski, the duo forms a solid tight end group. Rookie Ryan Izzo is a candidate for the practice squad.Offensive line (8): Trent Brown, Joe Thuney, David Andrews, Shaq Mason, Marcus Cannon, Ted Karras, LaAdrian Waddle, Ulrick JohnThis week’s projection sees a minor change along the offensive line. The spot previously occupied by first-round rookie Isaiah Wynn no longer gets filled by Cole Croston but by Ulrick John. The offseason signing had a mostly solid preseason and saw snaps with the starting offensive line during last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers: he was the first man off the bench at right tackle. Croston Cheap N'Keal Harry Jersey , meanwhile, hardly saw the field at all and appears to be one of the odd men out.Defensive tackle (4): Malcom Brown, Danny Shelton, Lawrence Guy, Adam ButlerOne of the toughest cuts is Vincent Valentine. The former third-round draft pick, who spent all of 2017 on injured reserve, was brought back slowly but still seems to be considerably behind the top four at the defensive tackle position. While he could make the cut based on talent and an encouraging rookie season in 2016, the Patriots might opt to bolster their depth elsewhere in hopes of stashing Valentine on the practice squad.Defensive edge (5): Trey Flowers, Adrian Clayborn, Deatrich Wise Jr., Derek Rivers, Keionta DavisWhile the top four on the defensive edge are set in stone, the fifth man behind them is still fighting for a roster spot: Keionta Davis’ odds of making the team, however, look good after he again played considerable snaps with the starters last week. The second-year man, who registered 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits through preseason so far, has been a pleasant surprise after missing all of last year due to a bulging disk in his neck. Davis appears to be a serious contender for a roster spot let alone one on the practice squad.Linebacker (5): Dont’a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy Red N'Keal Harry Jersey , Ja’Whaun Bentley, Elandon Roberts, Marquis FlowersThe Patriots have three roster locks at the position with Elandon Roberts a rather safe bet to join them. Behind those four players, Nicholas Grigsby and Marquis Flowers are fighting for the final roster spot. Grigsby made the cut during last week’s projection, but he is left off this week after Flowers saw considerable playing time against the Panthers. The reasoning behind it, other than Flowers having more experience as a defender and equal potential on special teams: Grigsby is still eligible to make the practice squad, Flowers is not.Cornerback (6): Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Jonathan Jones, Jason McCourty, Duke Dawson, Cyrus JonesCyrus Jones was left off the team last week, but a solid third preseason game pushes him up and onto the squad as a sixth cornerback and option as a punt returner – especially if Riley McCarron still gets replaced. Undrafted rookie cornerback J.C. Jackson, who did not quite live up to his training camp hype during the preseason, is a tough cut but one that could easily find its way onto New England’s 10-man practice squad.Safety (6): Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon, Jordan Richards 2019 N'Keal Harry Jersey , Brandon King, Nate EbnerThe safety group remains unchanged, with Jordan Richards solidifying his standing on the team after the release of offseason acquisition Eddie Pleasant. As a result, the safety group is expected to look like it did last year: McCourty, Chung and Harmon are the clear-cut top three, with Richards as the fourth option and King and Ebner as pure special teamers. Like wide receiver, however, safety also is a spot that could see an outside addition around cutdown day to potentially challenge Richards after all.Specialists (3): Stephen Gostkowski, Ryan Allen, Joe CardonaThe three specialists remain unchanged when compared to the last two roster projections. Both Stephen Gostkowski and Joe Cardona are safe, while Ryan Allen appears to have won the battle against and challenger Corey Bojorquez: the rookie punter did not play a single snap during the preseason so far and could be headed to the practice squad to possibly take over for impending free agent Allen next year.Reserve list (1): Julian Edelman (suspended)Julian Edelman will miss the first quarter of the season due to suspension. He will be back on the field in week five, though, to add much-needed depth to the Patriots’ wide receiver group.

Kelechi Osemele Jerseys 2019 , Week 5. Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles travel up the New Jersey Turnpike to take on their AFC East rivals New York Giants in MetLife Stadium. The Eagles have gotten off to a slow start in defense of their Super Bowl Championship. Star quarterback Carson Wentz missed the first two games of the 2018 season and Super Bowl hero Nick Foles struggled in his place. When Wentz got back he was a bit rusty, and the Eagles have continued to struggle, to the tune of a 2-3 record. Starting running back Jay Ajayi is out for the year, as are eight other Eagles, and five more are out for this game, so the Eagles are currently shorthanded. The Giants have been a disaster since last year. Prize rookie Saquon Barkley has lived up to his billing thus far, but the team as a whole has struggled against a difficult early schedule.Eli Manning has played reasonably well, but the team still can’t run the ball, even with Barkley, and they can’t stop the run on defense. Throw in the annual circus surrounding star receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. White Jamison Crowder Jerseys , and you have a team once again challenging for the first overall pick in the draft. It’s a renewal of an ancient NFC East rivalry and a matchup of two disappointing teams early on in the 2018 season. It’s the Eagles and the Giants in tonight’s Thursday Night Football action. Enjoy the game everybody.Jets QB Davis Webb looked like a practice squad project in preseason As you probably know, the Jets have a new developmental quarterback. Davis Webb was a third round pick of the Giants just last year. He was surprisingly waived last weekend and went unclaimed. The Jets signed him to their practice squad earlier in the week.I found myself curious about this situation. It isn’t every day that a team gives up on a day two pick after just one season. Even Christian Hackenberg got two seasons to try and prove he was worth something. Some Giants fans suggested this move was a power move by new general manager Dave Gettleman. Webb was drafted by the old general manager. Gettleman selected his own developmental quarterback this year, Kyle Lauletta. That made Webb obsolete for reasons that went beyond merit. Things like this do happen in the NFL. It wouldn’t be the first time a general manager made a move based on ego. Still, something didn’t seem right. Almost every team in the NFL is looking for talent at the quarterback position. Surely it reasoned that some team would be willing to give up a late round pick for somebody with potential at the most important position on the field. Webb was a third round pick just last year after all. The Giants ended up cutting him, however, indicating there was no trade interest.Even more strikingly, every other team then had a chance to claim Webb off waivers, acquiring him for nothing. Nobody did. Even though he was a guy who seemed to have potential on paper, not a single one of the 32 teams in the league was willing to offer him a spot on the 53 man roster. He ended up settling for a practice squad spot instead.I wanted to get to the bottom of this. The first place I looked was at Webb’s preseason stats, and boy they were ugly. Webb only completed 52.8% of his passes and averaged 5.3 yards per attempt. That’s brutal. Still, stats at the quarterback position don’t tell the whole story. Sam Darnold’s efficiency was just a hair better at 5.4 yards per attempt in the 2018 preseason. Yet when you went play by play with Darnold Jamison Crowder Jerseys 2019 , there was a competency that the numbers didn’t show. Was Webb the victim of a similar misfortune? I decided to take a look at his preseason passing attempts. After doing that, I came to a simply conclusion. Webb is an enormous project who has a very, very long way to go if he ever wants to find success on the NFL level. He has a remedial grasp of some very basic elements of the quarterback position. Maybe Gettleman was influenced a bit by not wanting somebody else’s project on his team, but Webb made the decision easy by showing so little promise in the preseason.I’ll spare you being forced to watch all of the snaps, but I will take you through a few of the major issues I saw.Pocket CommandWebb has a pretty clean pocket on this play. There’s plenty of room for him to step up in the pocket.Instead he bails on the pocket for no reason and runs himself right into defenders who would been pushed out of the way had he hung tough. His pocket panic leads to a sack. Here you’ll see pressure off the edge, but Webb once again has plenty of room to step up in the pocket to try and find something down the field. Instead he sees pressure and dumps it off for a minimal gain. AccuracyA 52.8% completion percentage is ugly and indicative of extreme inaccuracy. To be certain, there were a number of open receivers whom Webb targeted with wildly inaccurate throws that fell incomplete. I could put together a video of Hackenbergian UFO’s from Webb’s 2018 preseason. But I want to point out something else. Poor accuracy doesn’t just lead to incompletions. It also leads to completions producing less than they should.Take this play near the end of the first half. The Giants were in field goal range and out of timeouts. They were looking for a quick completion to the sideline to get a little bit closer and stop the clock. Webb hits the pass, but it is not a well-placed football. The receiver has to slow down to adjust to it because the ball is a little behind him. This allowed a defender to get to him to make a tackle, which ran out the clock. If Webb’s pass had led the receiver, he could have caught it in stride and easily made it to the sideline to preserve the field goal attempt. This inaccurate throw led to a completion, but it cost the Giants a shot at three points. On this third down play White Spencer Long Jerseys , wide receiver Kalif Raymond wins and gets inside of the cornerback covering him. With a step on the cornerback, an accurate throw that led Raymond and hit him in stride probably would allow him to get to the sticks for a first down. Instead we again see a throw behind the receiver, which again gives the defender time to catch up and make the tackle. The placement is the difference between a fresh set of downs and a punt.Making ReadsOn this play, the Lions show a look presnap that suggests they will be in Cover 2 with a pair of defenders deep and five defenders in underneath zone. With three receivers lined up on the bottom of the picture and two defenders, Webb believes he will have the yellow guy open. However, after the snap the Lions roll into a Cover 3 with the two outside corners dropping into a deep zone and one of the safeties driving on the route Webb is looking at.Webb is fooled, and the result is an incompletion. That one isn’t necessarily the end of the world. A young quarterback is going to get fooled presnap by a disguised look a defense throws at him from time to time.Let’s look at another situation. This play call gives Webb a really simple read. Where he goes with the ball is determined by what the cornerback does in zone coverage. If the corner drives on the short route, the deeper receiver will be open.If he drops deep, the short pass will be open in the flat. The underneath receiver is obscured a bit by the graphic, but the corner here is clearly dropping to take the deep route.Webb ends up trying to force this ball into an impossibly tight window. The underneath guy was open. Mind you this was a first down play, and the Giants still had all three timeouts in the two minute drill. There wasn’t anything dictating that trying to force the deep ball was the right decision. The Surprising ConclusionBy now you are probably thinking that I don’t want Webb.I will be honest. Based on what I have seen Spencer Long Jerseys 2019 , I think it is unlikely Webb will even amount to a decent NFL backup. I would say he is a pile of raw physical tools with very few of the necessarily skills to succeed at the quarterback position in the league developed. He also hasn’t shown much growth between last season and now, which is how you go from third round pick to practice squad so quickly. But that doesn’t mean I am against the addition of Webb to the practice squad at all. Webb might be a pile of raw physical tools, but a practice squad spot is the right investment for players of that profile. The purpose of the practice squad is to try and develop players with those raw tools, understanding it is probably a long-shot in most situations. It is a terrible idea to invest an early round Draft pick in a player like this the way the Giants did (or the way the Jets did with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg). Even though the Jets are paying Webb more than your typical practice squader, they have nothing to lose with this addition. They can walk away easily if Webb does not pan out. If he beats the odds andshows a surprising ability to develop, they could end up with a backup quarterback. I don’t need to explain how valuable that would be.It just should be noted that “project practice squader” is a more apt description for Webb at this point than “third round prospect.”

I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. Outside of an interesting Bill Belichick article regarding his resignation 20 years ago, there isn’t much going on in terms of news for the team. Stypulkoski speculates whether the Jets should target OL or DL in Free Agency this year, but I don’t see why we wouldn’t be going after both. This year’s a pretty shallow year in ‘skill’ position players hitting the FA market, so we should load up on the meat and potato guys now. Not only because they are the strongest groups hitting the market, but because they’re also a huge need on both sides of the ball for the Jets specifically. Letting go of Spencer Long kind of reinforces that they’ll be looking for better guys Youth Marcus Maye Jerseys , but we could be duped into another ‘Mac special’ for all I know. I’ll be looking at film of prospects from now until the draft, and I’m sure many of you will be doing the same. With that said, here are your links for the Jets this Thursday.Matt Stypulkoski - Should Mike Maccagnan focus on pass rush or offensive line in free agency? Bowles said he expects to meet with CEO Christopher Johnson tomorrow “and we will go from there” and that he felt about the same as the team’s record — 4-12 — when asked about his emotional state. He also fielded questions about whether expectations for the team were realistic given the talent on hand during his four years with the team. Bowles said coaches “feel like you can with anybody.”“As a coach, you are supposed to win, regardless of who is on your roster.
