What better opportunity to prove a point against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles?The Bucs took full advantage of their opportunity, using big plays and key defensive stops to hold the Eagles at bay and start the season 2-0.Here are this week’s final grades.OffenseYou couldn’t have scripted a better start for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buccaneer offense. Fitzpatrick recognized a corner blitz and unloaded a deep pass to DeSean Jackson for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play of the game.But it didn’t take long for the Eagles’ defense to settle in to the game. The next four drives saw the Bucs punt three times and O.J. Howard couldn’t corral a pass from Fitzpatrick that led to an interception. The Bucs managed just 49 yards on 19 plays through four possessions. Three of those ended in a Bryan Anger punt while the other ended in the aforementioned interception. Howard made up for miscue soon after, however, as he rumbled 75 yards down the field for a touchdown to break up a 7-7 tie and give Tampa Bay some major momentum. What made the play even better was Chris Godwin finishing a block all the way downfield to ensure Howard made it into the end zone. Mike Evans and Godwin pitched in with a touchdown each themselves to push the Bucs’ total offensive output to 27 points for the game. They converted both of their redzone drives for touchdowns as well. But there were still a few areas where they struggled.After accumulating an efficient 112 rushing yards against the Saints, the Bucs only gained 43 yards against the Eagles. They also went 8/13 of third down in Week 1 compared to just 4/10 in Week 2. The running game was absolutely miserable, averaging 1.9 yards per carry. The offensive line also gave up two sacks on the day after giving up zero the week before. Evans also had a crucial drop in the first half that could’ve advanced the Bucs into Eagles’ territory and Ryan Jensen had a brain fart after a good run by Peyton Barber that resulted in an unnecessary roughing call that put Tampa Bay in a negative-yardage situation.Despite the miscues, it was a good day for the offense, but there was definitely room for improvement. Final Grade: 3.0 (B)DefenseThere is no doubt that defense had a much better game against the Eagles.Now they weren’t facing Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, or Michael Thomas - but Nick Foles and co. did put up 41 points against the Patriots in the Super Bowl.They also have arguably the league’s best offensive mind in Doug Pederson. The defense got off to an amazing start. They forced a three-and-out on the Eagles first possession, but it didn’t stop there. The next three drives totaled 35 yards on 14 plays and one turnover. The Eagles had to convert two third downs and one fourth down on the next possession in order to get their first touchdown of the game. The defense held their own and was able to force a missed field goal right before halftime. Philly was faced with another fourth down decision coming out of halftime, but the Bucs were able to stall the drive. Gerald McCoy got his first sack of the season on the next offensive possession for the Eagles, and it looked like the defense was starting to take over.Gerald McCoy was all smiles after the gamePhoto by Michael Reaves/Getty ImagesBut the Eagles scored two touchdowns on the next three drives, going 185 yards on 25 plays and converting two fourth downs. The Bucs deserve major credit on the third touchdown, however, as they stuffed Jay Ajayi three times from inside the eight-yard line before Foles hit Nelson Agholor with a perfect pass on a fade route to the back-right corner of the endzone. If Tampa Bay were playing any other team than the Eagles http://www.authenticstampabaybuccaneers.com/cheap-chandler-catanzaro-jersey , it’s safe to assume the defense would have had a better day due to Philly’s inclinations to go for it on fourth down.Mike Smith’s defense did their job. Considering the fact that Beau Allen and Chris Conte both left with injuries and did not return, the rookies and depth-players that were left to step up did remarkably well in their place.Final Grade: 3.0 (B)Special TeamsBleh.That’s all I have to say. Chandler Catanzaro missed a kick for the second straight week. Whether it be an extra point or a field goal - it doesn’t matter. Every point in the NFL matters and the Bucs are already gun-shy when it comes to kickers.The coverage units were spectacular, but Catanzaro was not. Consecutive misses in as many weeks is not good.Final Grade: 2.0 (C)CoachingThis staff is on fire. All Todd Monken needs to do is find a way to incorporate an effective second half run game, but at the same time, he should continue to call plays according to game flow. That has been his strength so far and it’s a big reason why the Bucs are 2-0.The pass on 3rd-and-3 to Evans to ice the game took BAWLZ. Something tells me that Dirk Koetter would’ve called a run up the gut, forcing the Bucs to give the ball back and rely on their not-so-reliable defense to win the game.Smith on the other hand, had to give many Bucs fans hope. Despite the second half mistakes, the defense looked competent and even dominate at times. As the season progresses, the defense should as well - as long as they’re healthy.Final Grade: 4.0 (A)Overall Grade: 3.0 (B)Just like last week, the Bucs made plenty of plays to win, they just couldn’t ice the game when it mattered most. They must find a way to create a consistent running game and they need to become more consistent on third down. Call me impatient, but I’m ready to declare Catanzaro a mistake. Two missed kicks in as many games is worrisome and Tampa Bay fans don’t need to play this down as a minor issue.But as long as the offense continues to perform at this level, it’ll be hard for anyone to beat the Bucs.It’s on to a gigantic home matchup on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.Overall Grade For The Season: 3.0 (B) Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears head into their week four matchup at 2-1. Although both teams have the same record, they have arrived atthis point in almost completely different ways. We will look into some of the stats that make these two teams so different from one another . On the offensive side of the ball, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently averaging 473.3 YPG, which is good for first in the NFL. On the other hand http://www.authenticstampabaybuccaneers.com/cheap-donovan-smith-jersey , the Chicago Bears are averaging 293.7 YPG. Almost 200 yards per game separates these two offenses through three games. When you look at that differential, you’d probably assume that the Buccaneers are destroying them in both passing and rushing, but that’s far from the case. Currently, Tampa Bay is averaging 400.7 YPG through the air, which is again good for first in the NFL. The Bears passing game has been underwhelming at best. Mitchell Trubisky is averaging 5.7 yards per throw and the Bears are throwing for an average of 178.0 YPG, which is good for 28th in the league. On to the rushing differential between these two division leaders. The Bears currently sit at 12th in the NFL, with an average of 115.7 YPG. They are also averaging 4.1 YPC, which is good for 13th. On the other hand, Tampa Bay has been nothing short of abysmal in the ground game. The team is currently averaging 72.7 YPG, good for 30th in the NFL. The 3.0 YPC, is good for last. Of course, Tampa hasn’t needed to rely much on the ground game, but you can see why Chicago hasn’t had to throw for over 350 yards a game. They have a solid running game led by Jordan Howard. In terms of points per game, Tampa Bay is 4th in the league with 34.0 PPG, while Chicago ranks 19th with 21.0 PPG. On the defensive side of the ball, Tampa Bay is tied for last in the NFL against the pass. The Buccaneers are allowing an average of 362.6 YPG through the air. The Bears Youth Lavonte David Jersey , have the ninth best pass defense through three weeks, allowing an average of 223.7 YPG. Another big difference in both team’s passing defenses, Chicago has five interceptions on the year, while Tampa Bay only has one. It could be tough for both sides to run the ball in this game. The Buccaneers rank third in the NFL against the run, allowing an average of 70.7 YPG, while the Bears ranks second, allowing only 65.3 YPG. Some miscellaneous stats on the defensive side of the ball, Chicago has 14 sacks, which is good for 1st in the NFL, while Tampa Bay has seven, which is tied for 18th. This is the type of game where both teams strengths on one side of the ball, is the other team’s strength on the other side of the ball. It’s going to be fun seeing both teams try and attack the other. Do the Bears open up the playbook a little more and let Trubisky throw it down field? Will Ronald Jones get a chance to get a few carries with the ground game struggling? If you remember, this was probably Jameis Winston’s best game as a Buccaneer. The only question about Tom Brady as quarterback in New England is when Father Time finally wins before the five-time Super Bowl champ decides he's done with the NFL.Same for Drew Brees in New Orleans or Philip Rivers with the Chargers.Aaron Rodgers is expected back at his usual level returning from injury for Green Bay, and Deshaun Watson tantalized before his own injury cut short a very promising rookie season. Even though it's been a while since Andrew Luck threw a pass in an NFL game, his resume gives him plenty of cushion as he recovers from shoulder surgery.Not every quarterback has the same grip on a starting job as Brady, Brees or Rodgers, and a poor game or sloppy start can lead to a spot on the bench. Add a promising rookie into the mix, the leash can be even shorter.Here's a look at some quarterbacks who need to play well to remain starters as training camps open around the league:JAMEIS WINSTON, BUCCANEERSYes, Marcus Mariota must prove he can play all 16 games in a season, but the Tennessee Titans already have picked up Mariota's fifth-year option for 2019. Jamie Collins - Starting Strongside LinebackerHeight: 6-3 | Weight: 250 lbs | Age: 28Experience: 6 years | College: Southern MississippiHow has Jamie Collins’ time with the Browns been thus far? When he joined the team in 2016, he looked like a guy who had a positive trickle down effect on the rest of the team before looking a bit disinterested later in the year. He signed a lucrative contract extension last offseason for 4 years, $50 million. After starting the first two games of the year, he suffered a concussion at the end of Week 2’s game against the Ravens.Returning from missing three games, Collins then played through Week 10, when he suffered a season-ending MCL injury. He finished the year with 31 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception. It is truly polarizing to judge Collins. He needs to be significantly better in coverage, stop missing tackles, and has to get to the quarterback more. He actually had a terrible grade by PFF of 35.9 in 2017, one of the worst in football. James Burgess performed better than him as his replacement, in my opinion. But I still believe Collins is a very high-caliber linebacker, so I’m not throwing in the towel on him.Final Roster Odds: 100%Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports2. Christian Kirksey - Starting Weakside LinebackerHeight: 6-2 | Weight: 235 lbs | Age: 25Experience: 5 years | College: IowaChristian Kirksey remained an iron man for the Browns last year, playing every single snap. Despite moving from inside linebacker to outside linebacker http://www.authenticsclevelandbrowns.com/cheap-briean-boddy-calhoun-jersey , he finished with nearly identical stats in 2017 than he did in 2016: 138 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Kirksey also received a contract extension last offseason -- 4 years, $38 million, which will keep him with the club through 2021.Kirksey is one of the players trying to get behind a turnaround season for Cleveland, and last month, he boldly proclaimed that the Browns will make the playoffs this year.Many will think that is absurd to say after 1-15 and 0-16, but a lot of things have come together in year three of the rebuild for this team. A well-protected, comfortable Manning completed 17-of-23 passes for 188 yards. There were deep shots of 54 yards to Cody Latimer and 30 yards to Sterling Shepard. The Giants even moved the pocket a few times, asking Manning to throw while moving to both his left and his right.Jhurell Pressley — This is how you walk in off the street and make a strong first impression! Just signed on Monday because the absences of Saquon Barkley (hamstring), Jalen Simmons (concussion) and Robert Martin (leg) left the Giants with just two healthy running backs, Pressley had a game-high 71 yards rushing on 13 carries while playing the entire second half. The 24-year-old has bounced around the league on practice squads since 2016 and probably doesn’t have a realistic shot at a roster spot, but you never know.Sterling Shepard — No Barkley. No Odell Beckham Jr. Evan Engram concussed. Shepard had a nice night with 7 receptions in 7 targets for 78 yards. Love the efficiency.Aldrick Rosas — The second-year placekicker is a preseason phenom. He went 4-for-4 on field goals ranging from 21 to 48 yards on Friday and is now 6-for-6 on field-goal attempts this preseason. Rosas went 8-for-8 last preseason, but followed that up with a not-so-good (18-of-25, 72 percent) regular season.Kerry Wynn — A sack. Two tackles for loss. A quarterback hit. Three tackles. Almost a spectacular diving interception. Wynn’s outstanding preseason continued Friday night.Ray-Ray Armstrong — The veteran linebacker impressed again. He threw a huge block on the 55-yard punt return touchdown by Hunter Sharp, then forced a fumble on a Jets kickoff return that led to a Giant field goal.The return game — Anemic during the first two games, that aspect of the game came alive for the Giants Friday. Sharp had that punt return touchdown and averaged 26.7 yards on three returns. Kalif Raymond averaged 16.3 yards on four returns, including a 35-yard return where he tightrope-walked down the sideline. Cody Latimer, returning kickoffs for the first time as a Giant, had a 23-yard kickoff return. By the way, a little credit to Michael Thomas and Eli Apple on Sharp’s touchdown. He had 3 carries for -7 yards with his longest run going for a yard. He had a critical fumble on first-and-goal at the Jet 6-yard line. His nightmare preseason just got worse, and he now has 10 carries for -9 yards and a fumble. Let’s not overreact in preseason, but it’s fair to begin to wonder if there is any juice left in his legs after 10 season and 1,699 NFL regular-season carries.Run blocking — While Stewart was a disaster, Wayne Gallman fared only a tiny bit better, gaining 8 yards on 6 carries (1.3 per attempt) with the first-team offensive line in the game. Three of the 11 runs between Stewart and Gallman in the first half went for negative yardage. That’s just not going to cut it, and you could tell from the reactions of Pat Shurmur and the linemen after the game that they know it. By the way, some will single out Patrick Omameh and wonder if his starting job is in jeopardy. I doubt that’s the case, but the veteran guard does need to play better.Red zone offense — The Giants got into the red zone three times in the first half. They came away with a fumble and two field goals. Six point out of a possible 21 isn’t going to cut it. By the way, the scariest part of Stewart’s fumble. Watching Manning run down the field trying to both influence the return to prevent a touchdown and also not get hit by a horde of potential Jets blockers. Thank goodness the green shirts all chose to leave the veteran quarterback alone.B.W. Webb — The starting slot corner was beaten badly across the field by Terrelle Pryor on a 12-yard touchdown pass. I don’t want to overreact to one play, but that wasn’t good at all.Kwillies to ...Hunter Sharp — Why is Sharp down here after his terrific night returning punts? Well, because as good as he was returning those punts he was equally as bad as a wide receiver. He knew it, too. “It’s honestly hard for me even to be happy about the touchdown because I have high expectations for myself,” Sharp said after the game. “Honestly, I just have to bounce back and keep working.”Sharp had no receptions on three targets. He dropped two third-down passes from Manning that woulda-coulda-shoulda resulted in first downs. With the Giants at the Jets 16-yard line after Armstrong forced a fumble, Sharp and Manning appeared to miscommunicate on a throw to the end zone. Sharp broke to the middle, while Manning threw to the corner. Defenses that try to take the fight to the opposing offenses rather than being reactive? That’s what you’re going to get from Bettcher, and it is worth getting excited about watching it unfold.Davis Webb and Kyle Lauletta. The two young quarterbacks have, in very different ways, each shown promise so far this summer. There are no guarantees, and let’s hope neither has to play a meaningful snap this season, but they’ve shown that there is a chance the Giants have their quarterback of the future on the current roster.This is a real offense. It will be absolutely, utterly stunning if the Giants don’t break their string of two seasons without scoring 30 points in a regular-season game. This is a multiple offense that uses lots of different formations and personnel packages instead of the same look over and over, that believes in taking some shots down the field, that has a plethora of weapons and a veteran quarterback who should be able to identify and exploit the mismatches. The rookies reported Monday and the veterans will begin to report today. Along with football season comes predictions. With that being said, here are my five bold predictions for training camp. Carlton Davis will beat out Vernon Hargreaves for the outside corner job. I think that Davis has a chance to be a really good cornerback in this league. Of course, cornerback is one of the harder positions for rookies to learn, but I think he will be just fine. The Buccaneers have to adjust when it comes to Davis. Mike Smith must let him play his style which is press coverage. If they force him to play off coverage, like they have with other players in years past, we are going to see him struggle. I think that Hargreaves will ultimately be the team’s starting slot cornerback with Brent Grimes and Carlton Davis on the outside. 2. Vita Vea will be the starting defensive tackle opposite Gerald McCoy. Tampa Bay spent the 12th overall pick on Vita Vea and clearly have big plans for the former Husky. Vea certainly won’t be playing the whole game, and will probably have limited snaps through the first few weeks as he learns the NFL game, but he will be a part of the weekly game plan. Tampa Bay is certainly hoping Vea can come in and contribute heavily from day one and improve what was the worst defensive line in football last season. 3. There have been reports from multiple media outlets that the Buccaneers are considering this option, but there will always be a competition. Nothing will be handed to the second year receiver. In all seriousness, I believe Godwin should be opposite of Mike Evans on the outside. If this scenario turned out to be true, DeSean Jackson would then be the team’s slot receiver which could create nightmare scenarios for opposing defenses. The goal is to get the best players possible on the fieldat all times, and this move would allow Tampa Bay to do just that.4. Ryan Fitzpatrick shows he’s ready for the challenge. This may not be the boldest prediction out there, but I’m confident in the 35 year old to be up for the challenge that lies ahead. Fitzpatrick is going to need to be at the top of his game if the Buccaneers want to get off on the right foot this season. Call me crazy, but I can’t see Fitzpatrick not finding a way to win at least one of the team’s first three games. Fitzpatrick knows what it takes to win in this league and I expect him to come out sharp in the pre-season. Fitz understands how the league works and it will be extremely hard to come back from an 0-3 record, so I believe he will show a greater sense of urgency this August then he has in year’s past. Hopefully for the Buccaneers sake, he can repeat his 2-1 performance last season. 5.The Buccaneers finally find a kicker! Chandler Catanzaro and Trevor Moore will battle it out in training camp to see who the starting kicker will be come week one. While I hope this is not a jinx, I just have some sort of feeling that the Buccaneers finally found something. By all accounts, both kickers were impressive during mini-camp and will look to carry that over into training camp. My bold prediction is that Catanzaro will not miss a field goal during the preseason games and be named the starting kicker.
