Succinic Acid Production Cost Analysis 2021

Succinic acid, also commonly known as butanoic acid, is a type of dicarboxylic acid most commonly found in plants and animal tissues. Succinic acid is also known as The Spirit of Amber. It is named so because when it was first discovered, it was taken from amber by pulverizing and distilling it using a sand bath. It was initially used explicitly for rheumatic aches and pains.

The acid is extensively used as a flavouring agent in the food and beverage sector. Succinic acid accounts for up to 90% of the nonvolatile acids produced during alcoholic fermentation. For example, the content of this acid in wine usually ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 g/L, but the maximum concentration may reach 3 g/L. It is also used in the pharmaceutical sector in the manufacture of drugs like sedatives, contraceptives, and cancer-curing drugs. The acid is an important intermediate for perfumes, lacquers, dyes, coatings, plasticisers, metal treatment chemicals, and others.
