This is partly because of the world the characters live in and the lifestyle they chose. They live in Colombia which may have a reputation for being a dangerous country. and the characters, according to the title (so this is not a spoiler) are engaged in pic-pocketing.
There is more to the movie then robbery and suspense however. Since some of the characters are teens, you have to take that into consideration if you are the type of viewer who prefers 100% grownups movies.
Overall it was interesting specifically because we are not sure how the tale would end.
