The relationship expert also stressed the importance of trying new venues and locations when heading out for a meal or meeting up with friends. 

In separate clips on 9Honey, John provided advice on the best ways to breaking up with a partner.

He said it was important to get 'clear on your feelings about why you want to leave', 'clarify any remaining doubts' by talking to friends, 'be brave' and speak with your partner face-to-face, and then cut all contact and mix in different circles.

John also addressed how to tell if a partner is 'The One'.

He said communication was key and it was important to question whether they 'are your cheerleader and do they make you feel great about yourself.'

Meanwhile this week, John gave fans a rare glimpse into his family life, as he enjoyed a day out at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with his wife and children. 

In a series of photos shared to Instagram, John, 50, cuddled up to his wife of 14 years, Kelly Swanson-Roe.

Also posing with the couple were their two children: son Aston, eight, and daughter Piper, five.
