Massage therapy is frequently mentioned as the number one way to aid clients in getting relief from pain. People often are referred to massage therapy to ease back pain. But, not many people are aware that massage therapy are also a great way to reduce neck and shoulder discomfort, and also treat a range of other conditions. In this post, we'll discuss the science of massage, and how it may help you.
Rolfing is an alternative medical practice first developed by Ida Rolf, who was a world-recognized arthritis researcher and Osteopathic doctor. According to Rolf conventional medical practice does not take into consideration the intervertebral discs of a patient that could be seriously damaged from decades of misdiagnosis and abuse. Rolf investigates subluxations through hands-on manipulation, also known as Rolfing. After determining that the patient's cervical spondylosis (neck pain) is due to her intervertebral discs, Rolf recommends that the patient undergo chiropractic treatment using the hands-on manipulation method, named Rolfing.
This technique isn't exclusive to chiropractors; in fact it is common for acupuncturists, osteopaths, physical therapists and massage therapists use Rolfing. But what sets Rolf against other methods is that it is specifically created to ease neck and shoulder pain caused by structural imbalances. Structural Integration is a problem whereby certain structures don't properly integrate with each other, leading to problems that affect the health of a person. The most prevalent areas of structural integration include the spine, hips and pelvis, shoulders, knees, elbows and hips. Rolfers study the body as a whole and begin by identifying where tension, or stiffness, or lack of integration in the different structures. After the body is aligned, they apply gentle pressure to the affected structures and apply the hands-on Rolfing method.
Rolfers are not just limited to manipulative therapy. They also employ stretching movements in balance and strength massage and other techniques for soothing to assist patients break through problems with structural integration as well as relieve chronic pain. Rolfing is a method that can ease long-term discomfort. Individuals who undergo regular Rolfing sessions notice that their range of motion increases and their discomfort is reduced. They also report a higher sense of well-being and vitality.
The intention of a massage therapist conducting a rolfing therapy is to improve the functional flexibility and reduce pain. This can be quickly achieved by a routing session compared to the full bodywork sessions. This kind of result can be accomplished by a patient who requires just a little muscle relaxation. Massage therapists must be able to do both soft and firm manipulations in order to improve mobility, ease soreness and promote overall health.
In a typical rolfing session practitioners will do soft stretching and/or discuss flexions. This improves circulation, stretches out muscles that are tight and also increases mobility. It is common for practitioners to massage the same areas as those that would be addressed in a rolfing session. If the doctor chooses for a full body massage can even be performed.
To relieve tension in certain regions of the spine, a chiropractor will likely start with spinal manipulation. During this time the chiropractor can also apply pressure manually to soft tissue areas like the neck, shoulders, legs, and arms. Pressure is often applied on the lines of the spine. This is done to slowly tear down adhesions along spinal column and encourage the creation of new discs. Once the discs have been properly formed, a chiropractor should be capable of treating spinal misalignment issues and alleviate chronic pain.
Chiropractors and massage therapists share several of the techniques for massage. Each can offer a therapeutic environment that focuses on rehabilitation of soft tissue. Every practitioner can have distinct styles. While there is some similarity between them the techniques must be taught to ensure correct technique and to ensure security. Both patients seeking treatment and trained massage therapists should become familiar with each other's massage techniques in order to provide safe and efficient treatment.
